Change the halogen one. Replacing halogen lamps with G4 base with LED ones. Why is it difficult to install LED lamps?

At first glance, replacing lamps seems like a simple operation, but there are many features. Reasons for replacement:

  • the old lamp is out of order;
  • power needs to be changed;
  • not satisfied with the type or design of the lamp;
  • new organization of interior lighting.

Replacing the lamp yourself

In all these situations, the first thing you need to do is find new lamps.

Choice

First you need to determine what is best to install in the lamp. The simplest solution would be to replace the lamps with the same ones, since finding a new one is not difficult with all the variety of lamps: fluorescent (FL), incandescent, LED, halogen and others.

Most buyers take regular lamps of the same power; they are the cheapest and are always on sale. In the price range, LL are above them, and then LED. As the model becomes more complex, the cost increases.

What types of lamps are there?

The correct organization of diffuse, reflected and directional lighting allows you to control the shape of objects, zone areas and highlight the necessary objects in the premises.

Replacing faulty lamps

Failed lamps are replaced with new ones. Each type has its own characteristics.

Incandescent lamps

As lighting is used, its intensity is redistributed. In some places it is necessary to increase the power, and in another place it is necessary to reduce it. Therefore, they often take a slightly different light bulb. If practice shows that it is worse than it was, nothing will prevent you from returning to the previous option. For a medium-sized room, 100 W main lighting is sufficient.

In incandescent lamps, the bases are destroyed over time by exposure to high temperatures. Therefore, you should always have a spare cartridge at home.

First of all, to replace the light bulb you will need the following tools:

  • chair or stepladder;
  • tester, probe;
  • new lamp;
  • several pliers of different sizes, a screwdriver, a knife;
  • gloves.

Unscrewing a faulty incandescent lamp

The wire to the light bulb is predominantly supplied through a single-pole switch. The phase must be passed through it so that there is no voltage on the cartridge when it is turned off. This is simply checked with an indicator screwdriver.

It often happens that sometimes you have to unscrew the light bulb, but the base remains in the socket. It can be removed using pliers. They should be available in several sizes and with insulated handles. A film should be placed under the lamp.

When replacing a lamp, the light must be turned off. It wouldn't hurt to turn off the machine either. You should use an indicator to check the presence of voltage on the destroyed base. Not every owner remembers which position of the switch key corresponds to de-energizing the circuit.

Small pliers open inside the base, after which it is unscrewed. If it does not give in, you need to grab its edge with pliers and gradually loosen it until it moves. It’s even easier to unscrew the base along with half of the cartridge body, after which it will be much easier to remove it.

The new lamp is screwed into the socket clockwise. Here you cannot press hard on the glass body and apply a lot of torque so as not to damage it.

The functionality of the lamp is checked by applying voltage to it. If it does not light, it must be screwed in all the way or the contact tabs in the socket must be bent. When switching on, do not stand under the lamp due to the risk of explosion.

Luminescent

Replacing an LL with an E27 cartridge is no different from the previous ones. For one room, a power of 50 W will be enough. At the same time, the light of this type of lamp is soft and evenly diffused. They have built-in electronic ballasts with high frequency current and do not flash.

Tubular lamps are somewhat more difficult to replace if you do not know how to connect them. In addition, they are often mounted on the ceiling, and at high altitudes, working with them becomes difficult.

The room is de-energized, and the transparent diffuser is removed from the lamp. There are two pin contacts on each side of the tube. They fit tightly in sockets with clamps, and to release the lamp you need to turn it in one direction until it stops at 90 0, holding it on both sides.

Fluorescent lamp with diffuser

The new tube is installed perpendicular to the cartridges in the slot, and then turned 90 0 until it clicks. After it is fixed, you need to check the reliability of the fastening by slightly pulling towards yourself. Over time, the socket wears out and the lamp may fall out if not secured correctly.

After installation, the operation of the lamp is checked and the cap is installed in place. If the new lamp does not start, you need to check the functionality of the ballast elements.

The built-in LL for a suspended ceiling is replaced in a similar way, but a certain skill is required here, since there is little space left for its dismantling and installation.

Installing a fluorescent lamp in a built-in lamp

Built-in lamps have 4 lamps, but they are short and easier to work with. Having removed the outermost tube, access to the others will be easier if you remove them sequentially and install them in the reverse order.

Halogen and LED

In modern interiors, suspended ceilings with spot lighting are often used. To change a light bulb, it must be unlocked in the luminaire. First, the room is de-energized, and then the lamp clamp in the form of a spring ring is removed. Then you should unscrew the lamp and install a new one with similar characteristics in the vacant space. It is screwed in all the way and secured with a ring. At the same time, the parts are held so that they do not slip out of your hands.

Replacing a light bulb in a spotlight can be done by increasing the light intensity without increasing their power. To do this, purchase the same lamps with a spectrum closer to white. They are brighter than yellow ones with the same energy consumption.

Even lamps of the same type can have different appearances. It is advisable to use light sources from the same manufacturer and with the same power.

When replacing halogen and LED lamps (HL), they should not be touched with bare hands to protect them from rapid failure. If touching occurs accidentally, wipe the flask with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.

If the problem is more serious than replacing the lamp, you need to know how to remove the ceiling light. The sequence of operations for removing it from the suspended ceiling is as follows:

  • turn off the automatic voltage supply;
  • take out the light bulb;
  • pry off the decorative rim with a knife or screwdriver;
  • Press the fastening latches to the body and remove it from the groove.

Reinstallation is done in reverse order.

Replacing the lamp with a different type

Incandescent lamps consume more energy and have a short lifespan. Now there is a fashion to replace them with energy-saving ones. The reason is lower energy consumption. But here it should be borne in mind that the electrical goods market is flooded with a large number of counterfeits, negating all the advantages of new models. Branded products are expensive, but counterfeit products are not cheap, although in the end they do not provide any advantages, including in terms of service life.

If you decide to replace an incandescent lamp with a halogen or LED, the easiest way is to purchase them with the same E27 or E14 sockets, and then install them in the old socket.

It will be more difficult with spotlights, since the entire lighting system will need to be changed. They are mounted on a suspended or plasterboard ceiling. You can hide all the wiring behind them. For a stretch ceiling, this is more difficult to do, since it will be visible through the transparent material.

The cheapest linear LLs use electromagnetic ballasts and ballasts. The disadvantages of the lamps are low efficiency, choke rattling and lamp blinking. Replacing them does not help, since they are not the cause. Replacing the equipment with electronic equipment (electronic ballasts) eliminates the above-mentioned disadvantages.

Another way to increase the efficiency of energy consumption is to replace the luminaires with LEDs, which are completely identical in appearance and have similar glow characteristics. The G13 base is the same as on fluorescent tubes. From the inside, adjacent SL pins are short-circuited with a copper conductor, and a voltage of 220 V is applied from opposite ends of the tube. Inside it there is a strip with a driver and soldered LEDs. All starting equipment is dismantled, significantly lightening the luminaire. In its place you can place another lamp.

Bulbs for suspended ceilings are often used in spotlights. Some people install the structure themselves and then have an idea of how to change a halogen light bulb in a suspended ceiling and any others. This is not important. But if you ordered the installation of a ceiling from a company and did not do it yourself, then you may not know how the replacement is done.

On our website you can see photos and videos of installing various structures in suspended systems. Below are step-by-step instructions for performing this work.

Products used

There are four types of light bulbs most often used in suspended ceilings.

How to unscrew, screw in, insert halogen spot products with your own hands

  • Halogen, which can be installed with a minimum ceiling gap in relation to the base. They produce quite bright lighting. Replacing such an element is a little more difficult than an incandescent lamp and you must be extremely careful. The service life of such a lamp greatly depends on correct installation. We experience frequent changes in lighting supply, which negatively affect the operation of incandescent appliances. Therefore, it is better to use voltage stabilizers on the branch;

  • Some use lamps with traditional incandescent lamps. These elements are well known to everyone and replacing them is not difficult. However, they are not suitable for all suspended ceilings, as they get very hot;

Luminescent

  • Fluorescent lamps, despite the fact that their price is quite high, they are very popular because they consume little electrical energy. Moreover, their luminosity is much higher than that of their analogues. Disadvantages include slow start-up (hot-start lamps). And also a limited number of on-off cycles, as well as the content of mercury vapor in them, which complicates disposal.

LED luminaires for suspended ceilings

  • for suspended ceilings the most economical and durable. The luminosity of such devices is often higher than that of fluorescent ones. Their service life can reach 72,000 hours, which is incredibly long. In comparison, a regular incandescent lamp has a lifespan of 1000 hours.

When replacing lighting fixtures, you should know a few nuances.

Two types of base are used mainly for spot lighting:

  1. With traditional right-hand thread. It is used for a standard cartridge. And everyone knows how to make such a replacement;

  1. There are lamps that are attached with two pins(base G with all sorts of modifications). They serve as guides and are fixed after a characteristic click. When replacing, do not press with force. If you get into the groove, then snapping will happen easily. Therefore, do not try to press, just pull it out and try again, perhaps the element did not fit into the groove;

Let's get started with replacement

Turn off the power

First you need to turn off the power supply to the branch. Don't forget about safety precautions. To do this, just make sure that the switch is in the “off” position.

After this, we find a comfortable support so that we can perform work at height. Use a stepladder or regular stool.

Advice! When working on suspension and tension systems, you should be extremely careful. If it is a suspended ceiling, then the fabric can be easily damaged. If the suspended rack system, and even with a mirror coating, then any careless movement can cause harm.

  • If there is an incandescent lamp in the ceiling, then you need to grab the bulb and turn it counterclockwise, that is, it is held by the base.
  • LED, halogen and fluorescent lamps have different mounts.

  • When removing, first of all you should unlock the light bulb in the housing. There is a locking ring for this purpose. When doing this work, hold this part; the ring itself is springy and can easily slip out of your hand.
  • For other designs, the ring is threaded and unscrews in a counterclockwise direction.

How to unscrew, screw in, insert a lamp correctly

  • The lamp is now free. It won't fall because it's hanging on the wires. Pull it out and disconnect the connection by simply pulling it to the sides.
  • Having taken out the lamp, you can see its rating and select a replacement.
  • Install the lamp in the reverse order.

To ensure that the lamp not only works for a long time, but also looks beautiful in the ceiling, it is enough to follow a few simple rules:

  • If you didn't have enough lighting in the room. Then you can use two methods to correct the situation. The first is to choose a lamp of higher power, and the second is to replace it with a more energy-efficient option - LED.

  • If you were simply uncomfortable working, then try taking a daylight lamp with a temperature of 4000K. This type of lighting is more conducive to the work environment.
  • Use the same model for suspended ceiling lamps, otherwise they won’t look very good together. If this is not on sale, then it is better to replace all the lamps in the room, unless of course this is too expensive.
  • If you place a halogen lamp without a reflector, for example, in a chandelier, then remember that you cannot handle it with your bare hands. The fact is that their bulb is covered with a special coating, which degrades upon contact with fats - such a lamp will not last long. Use the cloth or cellophane included in the kit.

How to remove, disassemble, unscrew a built-in lamp

Now you know how to replace light bulbs for a suspended ceiling. The matter is simple, but not without certain subtleties. Let your home be bright and cozy.

Now a large number of chandeliers with 12v halogen lamps are sold on the market and everything would be fine, but some want to save on electricity or prefer neutral white light to yellow. It would seem that everything is simple, you need to buy LED lamps with the same base as halogen lamps, install them and the chandelier will work perfectly. But here lies one problem that emerges after installing LED lamps. Let's figure out how to get around problems when replacing lamps.

Why is it difficult to install LED lamps?

I would like to write right away that everything described in this article relates only to chandeliers that use halogen lamps with an operating voltage of 12V.

The fact is that chandeliers with 12-volt light bulbs use transformers (or power supplies, whatever you want to call them) that convert the 220-volt alternating current of our electrical network into the 12-volt alternating current that is needed for halogen light bulbs. In this case, the output voltage is not stabilized. And for LED lamps you need a stabilized constant voltage. This fact alone causes problems for many. For example, flickering of LED lamps is possible, noticeable to the human eye, which happened in my case. Believe me, it's unpleasant.

The second problem you may encounter may be due to the low power consumption of LED bulbs. The fact is that some transformers automatically turn off if the consumed load is too small, and this is exactly our case. For example, the power of one halogen lamp is more than the power of ten LED lamps (the power of a halogen lamp is 20 watts, and the power of an LED lamp is 1.5 watts). In my case, this did not happen, but do not be alarmed if, after replacing the lamps, the chandelier goes out or flickers.

And the third problem that I encountered is very strange, but be prepared for such a turn of events. The fact is that I have a chandelier with a control panel, and when I changed all the lamps to LED ones, the control panel could only turn on the lamps, but not turn them off or change the mode. In general, we can say that the remote control has stopped working. As soon as I returned several halogen lamps (only part) to their place, the remote control worked (you can see in the picture that the halogen lamps produce yellow light). I think this is again due to insufficient load.

Transformer replacement

The case with mixed types of lamps does not suit me, so I decided to replace the transformers of halogen lamps with power supplies for LED lamps. I opened the chandelier and found inside 3 transformers for halogen lamps (one 160 watt transformer for one group of lamps and two others for the second group of lamps), 1 control unit and 1 unit for controlling the LED backlight (the chandelier can flash red and blue light).

Now you need to calculate the total load on the power supply. In my chandelier there are two groups of lamps 8 and 9, with an LED lamp power of 1.5 watts, it turns out 12 and 13.5 watts, respectively. Also remember that after installing the power supply, under no circumstances should you insert halogen lamps into the chandelier!

I purchased a couple of 12 V DC voltage sources from the store. Navigator can withstand a load of up to 15 watts and are the right size for me (will fit inside the chandelier), see the picture. In addition to the main function, such a power supply protects against short circuits, power surges and overloads.

Then I unsoldered the wires from the transformers (see the first photo below), since I didn’t want to unwind the twists, and connected them to the power supplies Navigator, through the terminal blocks (see second photo from below). If you cannot unsolder the wires, for some reason, then you can simply cut the wires.

After I replaced the halogen lamp transformers with power supplies for LED lamps, I got rid of two problems: the LEDs stopped flickering and the chandelier began to work properly from the control panel. As a result, the insides of my chandelier began to look like this.

And all this naturally fit inside the chandelier.

Appearance of a chandelier with LED lamps

My chandelier uses bases G4 and I found LED bulbs to be almost the same size as halogen bulbs. These are light bulbs LUNA LED G4 1.5W 4000K 12V in a silicone case.

This LED bulb is slightly larger in size than a halogen bulb. And some may not like how the lampshades look when they are off, but it seemed normal to me. Below in the photos you can see what the lampshade looks like with a halogen lamp and an LED lamp.

And when the chandelier is turned on, you won’t be able to see whether the LEDs or halogen lamps are on.

Is it worth replacing halogen lamps with LED lamps?

So, let's summarize all the work done. In total, I spent 2053.50 rubles on upgrading the chandelier. (17 LED lamps for 80 rub. + delivery 100 rub. + DC sources 593.50 RUR) and a couple of hours of work. And now my chandelier has become energy efficient and shines with neutral white light, just like I wanted. For me, the deciding factor was the color, but others may like the efficiency (25.5 watts total for LEDs vs. 340 watts for halogens) and LED lifespan (30,000 hours for LEDs vs. 4,000 hours for halogens). But keep in mind that a 20-watt halogen bulb is about twice as bright as a 1.5-watt LED bulb (300-440 lumens for 20-watt halogen bulbs versus 150-230 lumens for 1.5-watt LED bulbs). If the brightness is not enough, you can use more powerful lamps, for example, 2.5 watts, but the physical size of such lamps will be larger. This must be taken into account, because the lamp must fit inside the lampshade.

One of the most common problems with room lighting is a burnt out lamp. Considering the different options for overhead lighting, the question of how to change a light bulb in a ceiling chandelier does not seem easy.

The non-working state of one of several light bulbs is not a reason to immediately take on a shift. It is more convenient and safer to remove the lamp in natural daylight if possible. And if you have to disassemble the illuminator at night, you need a flashlight. Tools you may need are pliers, a screwdriver, and it’s a good idea to wear cotton or rubberized gloves.

The electricity supply should be turned off at the work site. You can turn off the machine or use the key switch.

A new light element - preferably completely similar to the burnt one - should be on hand to screw it in without delay.

Note

The possibility of marriage should never be ruled out. Therefore, when you turn on the light for the first time, it is better not to stand under a chandelier or lamp, and even more so, not to immediately raise your head up. It is better to exclude the possibility of injury if the new lamp does break.

Installing an incandescent lamp

General purpose incandescent lamp 230 V, 60 W, 720 lm, E27 base

Before changing the light bulb, it is advisable to remove the lampshade and frame. After this, holding the socket with one hand, unscrew the lighting element in a counterclockwise direction.

If the bulb is cracked, it should first be wrapped in cloth and then removed from the cartridge. Lower your head down so as not to hurt your eyes, put on glasses. If the glass explodes, the remains are also removed using a soft cloth, rags, and only pliers will help to unscrew the base.

It also happens that after unscrewing, the glass remains in the hand, and the base remains in the socket. Then you can't do without pliers.

Now you can make a replacement. The new lamp is screwed in clockwise until the end. There is no point in trying to screw it in harder: it will only damage the flask.

Installing an energy-saving light bulb

An energy-saving lamp consists of 3 main components: a base, a fluorescent lamp and an electronic unit.

An energy-saving lamp differs from an incandescent lamp in structure - the bulb is replaced by a fluorescent tube. It is easier to change a burnt-out energy-saving element - there is a choke located next to the screw-in base, thanks to which it can be changed simply by pulling it out.

Changing light bulbs in a suspended ceiling

In a room with a suspended ceiling, the role of a light source can be played by both chandeliers and recessed lamps that are directly mounted on the base.

Before changing a lamp - LED, halogen or fluorescent - you need to choose one that is suitable in terms of power and installation for a particular spotlight. And for this you need a packaging box or a burnt-out lamp itself.

How to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling? Since the body of the built-in light source is secured by spacers with two springs, it is quite possible to pull it down a little, carefully holding the lamp on both sides. You need to pull it out of the frame to a length sufficient to unscrew the screw base. When the work lamp is screwed in, the lamp returns to its place in this way: the springs are pressed against the base, inserted back, then the housing itself is inserted into the hole in the tension structure.

Spotlights and chandeliers are attached to the ceiling itself, and the hanging canvas forms only a cell. However, the recessed lights themselves differ slightly in design from chandeliers. And first of all, this concerns the base. The fact is that the thread of the cartridges for built-in illuminators is not the same in size. In addition, there are pin sockets. Therefore, the method of replacing a light bulb from a spotlight also depends on the type of mounting.

Types of fastening in lamps

So, there are three types of fastening: standard with thread, pin and rotary .

With standard mounting - in a threaded socket - changing a chandelier on a suspended structure is similar to replacing a lamp on a non-suspended, base ceiling.

The pin type has a different extraction mechanism - it has a ring for a stopper. Such a base - usually two-pin - is found in halogen ones.

How to change a halogen light bulb? To remove a halogen lamp, the ring is squeezed and pulled out - the lamp will remain hanging on the wires. All that remains is to disconnect it from the terminal, pull it out forcefully, then insert a new one - there should be a characteristic click - and secure it with a locking ring.

Halogen lamps with a two-pin base are installed with cotton gloves, otherwise the bulb may explode. In addition, fingerprints that are difficult to erase may remain on the flask. But when working with such a lamp, you do not need to remove the lamp from the frame.

There is another type of cartridge - special - this is what fluorescent and LED illuminators most often have. This type of fastening contains both a fixing ring, which is removed first, and a thread. After the ring, the glass part is removed - and the burnt-out part can be removed. This mount is called a rotary mount, because to fix the lamp, it must be rotated 90º.

Replacing a light bulb usually does not present much difficulty even for non-specialists. But not everyone knows how to change a light bulb if it is installed in a hood, spotlight, microwave or refrigerator. And replacing a burnt-out light bulb in a regular lamp requires compliance with certain rules.

How to correctly replace a light bulb in a lamp, chandelier or lampshade

If a light bulb in your home lighting fixtures has burned out and needs to be replaced, then first of all you should purchase a new one. It is necessary to install a lamp of the same power and the same type.

The following type of light source can be used for lighting:

  1. Incandescent lamp.
  2. Energy saving or fluorescent lamp.
  3. Halogen.
  4. LED.

The light bulbs installed in the luminaires have maximum power limitations. Usually it is 40 W. This value cannot be exceeded, since the sockets and wiring in the lamp may fail.

Having found out what type and power the burnt light source in the chandelier or lampshade is, you need to clarify the type of base, after which you can purchase a new light bulb. If difficulties arise in determining the parameters of a burnt-out light bulb, you can simply dismantle it and take it with you to the store as a sample.

  • De-energize the device. To do this, you need to turn off the machine on the dashboard or unscrew the plugs. If it is a table or wall lamp, just remove the plug from the socket.
  • To change a light bulb in a chandelier or ceiling light, you will need a stable stepladder or chair.
  • Remove the light bulb and install a new one in its place.

If the bulb appears to have burst or crumbled when unscrewed, the remaining part of the incandescent lamp can be unscrewed from the socket by grasping the edge of the base with pliers or pliers.

When replacing an incandescent lamp in a chandelier hanging overhead, do not look at it. This will protect your eyes from splinters if the bulb bursts. To avoid accidentally cutting your hands, you need to wear gloves or wrap the lamp in a napkin.

If an energy-saving light bulb is installed in the lampshade, then it must be unscrewed, holding it by the base, and not by the fragile glass tubes, which can easily break. Inside these light sources there are vapors of mercury compounds that are very harmful to health.

When replacing halogen lamps, they should not be handled with bare hands. Fatty fingerprints will cause local overheating of the flask and its destruction. Therefore, before working, be sure to wear gloves.

Waterproof lamps are usually installed in the bathroom. When dismantling the lampshade, care should be taken not to damage the insulating elements. It is necessary to provide a place where the removed lampshade and tools can be placed during work. After replacing the burnt-out light bulb, the lampshade is installed in place so that vapors and moisture cannot get inside the device.

How to replace a light bulb in a suspended or suspended ceiling

How to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling if it is equipped with spotlights? Replacing the light source in them requires care and certain skills. This is especially important when working with tools, if the lamp needs to be replaced in a suspended ceiling. One awkward movement can damage the stretched fabric. To replace a burnt out lamp:

  • Turn off electricity in the room.
  • Remove the fixing ring from the lamp that holds the lamp in the shade and place it so that it is at hand.
  • Carefully disconnect the burnt out lamp. Depending on the base model, it can be screwed into the socket, fixed with side pins (rotated 90 degrees) or have pin contacts.
  • If you did not know before which model of lamp is used in the lamps, then you need to take the burnt-out light source with you to the store as a sample and buy the same new one.
  • Install the new light bulb into the socket, place it in the socket and secure with the ring.

Since halogen light sources are usually installed in spotlights, you need to wear gloves to avoid leaving sweat marks on the lamps.

How to replace a light bulb in a kitchen hood

If the backlight in the kitchen hood stops working, but the fan turns on normally, then most likely the lamp has burned out. It's easy to replace it yourself. First of all, you need to completely de-energize the hood by unplugging the plug from the socket. Depending on the model, access to the lamp can be achieved by removing the air intake grille or opening a special lamp on the body.

You cannot install a light bulb of a different marking and power in the hood, as it may damage the wiring or simply will not work.

How to replace a light bulb in a refrigerator

If the light in the refrigerator has disappeared and the engine is working properly, then most likely the lamp has burned out. Knowing how to replace a burnt out light bulb, you can do it yourself without contacting a repair service. The lamps can be located in the refrigerator in different places - on the side or back wall, in the upper part or in the middle of the chamber. But, in any case, access to them is provided. Before starting work, you must turn off the refrigerator and remove the plug from the socket.

The easiest way to change the lamp is in the Veko refrigerator. A 15 W light bulb with an E14 base is screwed into a socket located next to the switch. You just need to unscrew the faulty light source and install a new one in its place.

It is not much more difficult to replace the light source in the Biryusa refrigerator. To replace a burnt out lamp in a Biryusa refrigerator you need to:

  1. Disconnect it from the network.
  2. Open the refrigerator door.
  3. Most modifications of Biryusa refrigeration cabinets have a box with a cooling regulator on the right side wall. A lampshade with a lamp is attached to it on the back side. The lampshade should be gently squeezed from the sides (to release the latches) and removed.
  4. Unscrew the burnt out light bulb and install a new one in its place.
  5. Replace the lampshade.

Some models of Biryusa refrigerators use an LED block (Biryusa-10) as a light source. To dismantle it, you need to remove the cover from the block, unscrew two self-tapping screws, remove the block together with the lampshade, and disconnect the contacts. Installing a new light source in the Biryusa-10 refrigerator is done in the reverse order.

In Samsung refrigerators, the lamp cover is removed differently for different models. So, for Samsung RL series (38**, 41**,44**), it is attached with latches, and to remove it, you just need to press on the sides and pull it towards you.

In other modifications of Samsung, the cover is fixed with a screw that must be unscrewed. If there is a protective housing under the lampshade, then you need to unscrew the fastening screws and remove it. Disconnect the wires. If there is protective tape, it must also be removed. After this, a new one is installed instead of the faulty light bulb.

Changing the light source in an Indesit refrigerator is not very difficult, but care must be taken. The fact is that in most Indesit models the lampshade is not completely removed, but part of it is bent, opening access to the light source. To gain access to the lamp, you need to unscrew the fixing screw and bend the desired half (according to the instructions). A burnt-out light bulb in Ariston refrigerators is replaced in the same way. But on some modifications (for example, Indesit C138G), the lampshade is removable and secured with latches. To dismantle it, you need to press on the top and bottom walls.

Atlant refrigerators also use an incandescent lamp for lighting. To properly dismantle the lampshade, the manufacturers put an arrow on the wall next to it. Replacing the light source in all Atlant modifications is carried out as follows:

  1. Turn off the power to the refrigerator by unplugging the plug from the socket.
  2. Unscrew the screw that fixes the lamp.
  3. Without applying much force, move the lampshade in the direction indicated by the arrow on the inner wall of the Atlant refrigerator.
  4. Replace the burnt out lamp.
  5. Reinstall the lampshade.

In Atlant refrigerated cabinets, you can replace the incandescent lamp with a more durable one - LED. For comfortable lighting of the refrigeration chamber, such a light source will have a power of 3-5 W. In addition, LED bulbs practically do not heat up.

You can use LED light sources to illuminate cameras not only in Atlant refrigerators, but also in devices from other manufacturers, if they are equipped with incandescent lamps operating from a 220 V network.

Halogen or energy-saving light bulbs are not used for illumination in refrigerated cabinets.

How to replace a light bulb in a microwave oven

Most modern microwave ovens are equipped with a backlight. If the light bulb in the microwave burns out, this will not affect its performance, but it is still more convenient to use it when the lighting is working. Not everyone knows how to replace a light bulb in this kitchen appliance without resorting to the help of specialists. To do the job you will need a Phillips screwdriver and a little skill. The operating procedure is as follows:

  • Disconnect the appliance completely by unplugging the plug from the socket.
  • Carefully examine your “helper”. It is necessary to find and unscrew the screws that secure the housing cover (usually it is U-shaped and covers the sides and top of the device). Fastenings can be located on the back or sides (less often - on the front or bottom).
  • Carefully remove the cover. Usually it needs to be moved back a little and then raised up.
  • Determine the location of the light bulb. In some models it is placed in a special box secured with a screw. Inside there is a socket with a light source that needs to be replaced. In other models, the socket itself is inserted into a special hole along with the lamp, and secured on the outside with one or two self-tapping screws. By removing the socket, you can easily replace the faulty light bulb.
  • Replace the socket or lamp box and secure it correctly.
  • Close the housing cover and secure with screws.
  • Connect to the mains and check how the lighting in the microwave works.

It is better to purchase a light bulb after dismantling the burnt one, using its sample, since it is difficult to determine in any other way which light source is installed in the microwave.

Replacing an oven light bulb

You can change the backlight lamp in the oven yourself even during the warranty period. The lighting can be located in the oven on the side or back wall (depending on the model). The light bulb can be covered with a round or rectangular glass cover-shade.

Replacing the light source in the oven is carried out in the following order:

  • Unplug the oven. If it is hot, wait until it cools completely.
  • Cover the bottom with a cloth or towel. If a light bulb or glass cap accidentally falls, it will not break.
  • If the light bulb is covered with a round cap, then it must be unscrewed by rotating counterclockwise. After this, remove the metal and sealing rings.
  • If the light source is closed with a rectangular lid, then you need to insert a flat object (a screwdriver or the tip of a knife) into the groove on the top and, turning it up, push out the glass plate.
  • Replace the light bulb in the socket.
  • Cover the hole with a lampshade. Round - screw it on, after putting rings on it. Rectangular - insert the bottom edge and then press lightly on the top to snap into place.

Only heat-resistant light bulbs rated for temperatures up to 300°C can be installed in the oven.

If the oven uses a halogen lamp for illumination, fingerprints must not be allowed to remain on it. You must either wear gloves or wrap the light bulb in a dry cloth. Contaminated areas should be wiped with a cloth soaked in alcohol.

Disposal of used lamps

The easiest way to recycle incandescent lamps. They are made of glass and metal. They do not contain substances harmful to the environment. Therefore, they can simply be thrown into the trash container.

The same can be done with LED light sources.

Halogen lamps contain small amounts of halogen and halogen compounds in the bulb. But they do not pose a danger to living organisms and the environment if the flask is destroyed.

The bulbs of fluorescent lamps contain mercury or its compounds belonging to class 1 toxic substances (“extremely dangerous”). They should not be thrown into trash containers. Failed fluorescent light sources must be handed over to public utilities or to special collection points, where they must be accepted free of charge and disposed of in accordance with sanitary standards.

Energy-saving lamps are a type of fluorescent light sources. They must also be handed over to the appropriate organizations for recycling.

Burn fat specifically in problem areas

A very popular solution for both apartments and offices is lighting using spotlights, rather than one central lighting fixture. This method of organizing lighting has many advantages. Firstly, the placement of lighting fixtures has no restrictions. Secondly, the light that the point element creates has a small scattering angle, that is, most of the light flux falls directly on the object of illumination. Thirdly, this applies to devices with LEDs; with their help, you can organize colored lighting, and thereby obtain an original design solution.

Device structure

A spotlight is a lighting device with a small emitting surface.

It consists of two parts: decorative (visible) and functional. The latter consists of a frame where the lamp is attached, and clamps with which the device is mounted to the ceiling.

The products can be mounted in the ceiling, both suspended and regular, in the wall, on the steps of the stairs, in the floor. In the last two cases, it is recommended to give preference to sidewalk lighting fixtures, since their housings are designed for heavy loads.

Light sources can be any type of light bulb

  • Incandescent lamps are the most common electrical light source. It has a high color rendering index, low cost, and insensitivity to voltage changes. However, its efficiency does not exceed 4% and its service life is short.
  • Luminescent – gas-discharge light sources. Characterized by much higher luminous efficiency and long service life. However, the bulbs contain mercury, which requires special conditions for disposal and are characterized by low power.
  • Metal halide – high pressure gas discharge lamps. In terms of light output, they are superior to incandescent devices, but inferior to fluorescent ones. Their advantage is that if they replace incandescent light bulbs, no modifications are required.
  • LED or semiconductor - characterized by low energy consumption and a very long service life. The light output is somewhat inferior to fluorescent, but superior to all other lighting devices. The disadvantage is the relatively high cost.

How to replace an incandescent light bulb

In a spotlight, this procedure is carried out in exactly the same way as in any other. The power supply in the room is turned off, the cover of the device is removed, the burnt-out light bulb is unscrewed from the device and a new one is carefully screwed in its place.

How to replace a halogen lamp

It will take a little longer to replace a halogen light bulb.

  1. The decorative cover of the device is removed, then the fixing ring.
  2. A halogen or metal halide light bulb should never be held with bare hands, as any traces of grease on the bulb will lead to damage, and this, in turn, will shorten the life of the device.
  3. The burnt out lamp is unscrewed and a new one is attached in its place. It is recommended to hold the flask with a napkin.
  4. The fixing ring and the device cover are installed.

Installing an LED lamp in a spotlight

If LEDs were installed as light sources, then one thing should be clarified before the procedure. Lamps are both an independent device in which the housing is designed to accommodate an LED element, and an element in which an LED lamp can be installed. In the second case, in order to replace the lamp, you should follow the procedure already described.

If we are talking specifically about an LED lamp, then it will have to be replaced entirely along with the housing. Despite the apparent cost of this method, the design of the device is highly energy efficient and compensates for the replacement method.

  1. Power is turned off.
  2. The new device is checked using a tester for short circuits between wires.
  3. The device cover or mount is removed, if we are talking about ceiling lighting, the wires are disconnected. To do this, either remove the insulating caps or the insulating tape on the wires. The wires are disconnected.
  4. The lamps are installed according to the instructions. As a rule, the device is screwed into a tube, and the latter into a box.
  5. The wires are connected according to the markings - the colors must match. Then the caps are put on, or the junction is isolated with tape.
  6. The wires are put into the box. The cover or cover of the device is combined with the box and attached with screws through the holes.

In the video, the process of replacing an LED lighting source is presented in more detail.

Each light bulb in a car performs a specific function. All lighting devices must work properly, as this ensures safety while driving on the road. But light bulbs tend to burn out, some earlier and others later, but it happens. You cannot drive without low beams, high beams, turn signals and brake lights. Therefore, it is necessary to install a new lamp. Let's talk about how to change a light bulb and what difficulties you may encounter while performing such work.

General provisions

The average lamp life depends on its resource and conditions of use. Chinese products usually do not last long, on average 150-200 hours, but there are exceptions. But original lamps can work for many years and still shine as brightly as on the first day. The average service life is about 1.5-2 years. It is after this period that it is worth buying spare ones, although there should always be some. For example, if a lamp burns out on the highway at night, then driving is no longer so comfortable, and it is also unsafe. In this case, it is advisable to know how to change a light bulb on your car; often there is absolutely nothing complicated about it.

It is worth noting that most cars are equipped with halogen lamps. It is strongly recommended not to touch their flasks with your hands. This is due to the fact that during operation they heat up to a high temperature. The remaining grease stains from the hands cause the lamp to simply burn out. The flask should also not be scratched. Otherwise, the replacement process is simple, and now we will look at it.

How to change a headlight bulb

The replacement process often comes down to the fact that first you need to understand whether it is worth removing the headlight or not. The design of most modern cars is such that you do not need to remove the headlight to replace it. Simply unscrew the base from the seat, remove the lamp from the socket and install a new one.

But in some cases the headlight still needs to be removed. Sometimes this is done, rather, for greater convenience of work, and not as a necessity. To do this, you need to unscrew the studs that pass through the headlight housing and hold it firmly in place. But sometimes you don’t even need a tool. For example, on the Volvo XC90 the stud is L-shaped and does not twist, but is simply inserted. If it is necessary to replace the low or high beam lamp, the headlight can be removed and put back very quickly; no tools are needed in this case. But this design is rare, so it’s better to keep a set of keys on hand.

How to change a license plate light bulb

Often, two W5W lamps are installed to illuminate the license plate. This is the most common option without a base. The replacement procedure is usually similar on almost all cars. It consists in the fact that it is necessary to remove the fastening from the latches. On modern cars, latches are often used; on classic VAZs, screws were used for fixation.

Using a flat-head screwdriver, unclip the fasteners and remove the lamp from the protective casing. After that we install a new one. Before placing it back into the case, it is recommended to check for functionality. The assembly process is performed in reverse order. It is worth noting that sometimes one lamp burns out, because of this the license plate is not completely visible, so traffic police officers may have questions. If one lamp burns out, then it is better to change both, so as not to go there again in a month. In general, everything is extremely simple, and there should be no problems. In some cases, when screws are used for fastening, they turn sour. You can pour WD-40 on them and wait a little, after which everything should come off.

Has the light on the instrument panel burned out? No problem!

Here a lot depends on the car model. But the essence remains the same. As for the tools, we will need a flat and figured screwdriver or a set of bits. Often the dashboard is attached using several self-tapping screws. We find and unscrew them. Next, carefully pull the tidy towards you. There is a block in the center; it needs to be disconnected, since without this it will be difficult to replace the required lamp.

With the panel removed, we remove the back cover. It is held in place by simple plastic clips. We try not to break them in the process. Next we see lamp bases, each of which is responsible for illuminating a particular icon. Scroll the lamp base to the left and remove it. Now you need to remove the light bulb from the base. If you cannot remove it, you can try to fix the base with pliers, but be careful not to damage it. Then we install a new lamp and assemble everything in the reverse order. Since changing the light bulbs on the instrument panel is not difficult, this must be done, because you may not find out about some malfunctions just because the lamp does not work.

Replacing the brake light bulb

Here the procedure is somewhat similar to the one that needs to be done to replace headlight bulbs. On classic cars it is necessary to dismantle the headlamp; on foreign cars this is often not necessary. First, you should open the trunk and remove the trim that blocks access to the lamp. After this, disconnect the wiring harness and use the appropriate wrench to unscrew the nuts securing the light to the body. Now there is free access to the burnt out stop lamp. We unscrew it and install a new one, there is nothing complicated here.

To replace, you will need to remove the rear panel of the light. It is held on by plastic latches; carefully remove it and try not to damage anything. It is advisable to inspect the condition of the remaining light bulbs while working and, if necessary, change them too; they cost pennies. So you know how to change a brake light bulb. In some cases, it is not necessary to remove the lamp, since the lamp shade is visible from the trunk. Turning it counterclockwise, we pull it out, take out the burnt out lamp and install a new one. Reassemble in reverse order.

Important information

Often it is worth installing in the headlights what was installed from the factory. These are the lamps that last the longest. Also, don't increase the power if you feel like the light isn't bright enough. This can lead to the fact that not only the contacts on the ceiling lamp melt, but also those on the steering column switch. Ultimately, the latter will have to be replaced completely or you will have to pay money for expensive repairs. For example, if you increase the power by 40%, then the headlights may soon crack and become cloudy due to the high temperature, and the quality of light in this case will become even worse.

Let's sum it up

Since changing a side light bulb or any other light bulb on a car is not difficult, it is better to do such work yourself. True, there are some exceptions here. For example, on modern BMW or Mercedes cars, it is not always possible to replace the lamp yourself, since this requires removing a lot of things. But for budget cars this is quite possible.

Question:

Good afternoon, I have a suspended ceiling in my room, but the lamps in it have started to go out. I tried to pull it out myself, but I couldn't unscrew it. The canvas is deformed and the lamp cannot be pulled out. I'm afraid of damaging the ceiling. Tell me how to properly restore the backlight?

Answer:

Stretch and suspended ceilings are often used to decorate interiors and embody design ideas. The lamps that are installed in them are called point or “spot”, which is translated from English as “Point”. These can use both 12-24V lamps and the usual 220V. The design of the device, although standard, is installed in different sockets, and the lamps in them are also fixed in different ways. This approach helps to create a multi-zone ceiling light that is appropriate both in the home and in the office. Let's find out how to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling without damaging it.

What kind of lamps are used in spotlights?

In stores you can find a whole range of products for spotlights; they differ in both voltage and design. When replacing a lamp, you need to pay attention to both factors:

  1. Supply voltage – 12, 24 or 220 V.
  2. Base type.

The 12V supply voltage allows the use of such lamps in any room, including wet ones - the bathroom and kitchen. The type of base already depends on the lamp itself; for spotlights there are quite a lot of them, among them the most common ones can be identified:

  • GU5.3;
  • GU10;
  • GX53;

Generally speaking, they can be divided into two groups:

  1. Threaded base.
  2. Pin (the lamp must be inserted with or without rotation).

The last difference is the type of lamp:

  • Incandescent lamp;
  • Halogen;
  • Luminescent;
  • LED;

The last two types are usually called “Energy Saving”. Let's figure out how to change an LED and any other light bulb in a spotlight.

How to remove a light bulb from a suspended ceiling: 4 rules

Layout of a spotlight in a suspended ceiling

Spots are not fixed in the suspended ceiling, but basically. Its frame is attached to the ceiling, and its decorative part is located on the tension fabric. The socket can either be fixed to the frame of the spot, or simply hang on a wire, and the lamp is fixed in the lamp; we will tell you more about this below. The main thing when replacing is to adhere to the following rules:

  1. Use a stable ladder or stand. This is mandatory, because You cannot rest your hand on the suspended ceiling, you will damage it.
  2. Wear gloves. Halogen lamps should not be touched with bare hands. If greasy marks remain on their surface, this can lead to premature failure of the lamp. It is worth thinking about replacing halogen with diode analogues.
  3. When servicing lamps of the MR16 type, you must carefully remove the stopper so as not to lose it, otherwise the lamp will fall out.
  4. Make no effort. You must remove the light bulb or the spot itself carefully so as not to damage the suspended ceiling or drywall; determine the type of lamp and read the instructions for replacing it.

Replacing MR16, GU5.3 lamps

Layout of a spotlight with a GU5.3 base

Lamps for MR16 with GU5.3 base hold the lamp using a locking ring. It is less like a ring and more like a bracket. Let's find out how to remove a light bulb from a spotlight.

  1. Turn off the power. To avoid electric shock, it is better to turn off the electricity completely, because the switch does not always break the phase wire, although the correct circuit involves disconnecting the phase from the light bulb.
  2. If there is a decorative shade on the lamp, remove it.
  3. Squeeze the locking bracket with two fingers using the antennae provided for this purpose. Now you need to take it out. The removed stopper can easily jump out of your fingers, be careful.
  4. The lamp will hang on the wire; now you need to remove it from the socket, holding onto it. Do not pull on the wire to avoid tearing it off.
  5. Reassemble everything in reverse order and install the retaining ring in its place. Please note that there are grooves (windows) on the lamp body for this purpose.

There are some nuances. If the stopper does not sit in its place, this could be due to two reasons. The first is that the lamp was not inserted completely or its housing is not made to the standard. Secondly, perhaps the ring is not from this lamp; you could confuse them if you changed several lamps at once.

Instead of a spring stopper, there may be a threaded ring. We simply unscrew it and repeat the described steps.

Replacing lamps type GX53 (tablet)

Layout of spotlight type GX53

GX53s actually resemble a pill, they are usually round in shape with a white matte diffuser. Let's look at how to change gx53 light bulbs in a suspended ceiling. The procedure for replacing them is a little simpler than that of GU5.3. There are two pins on the lamp, but they are of a different shape. The pins have two diameters, the one closer to the lamp is smaller, and the one closer to the edge is twice as large. This is necessary to fix the light bulb in the socket. You don't have to disassemble anything here.

To replace this light bulb:

  1. Grasp the flask with one hand.
  2. Hold the frame of the lamp with your other hand.
  3. Turn the lamp counterclockwise 20 degrees.
  4. Pull out the lamp.
  5. Install the new one by turning it clockwise until it stops.

There is no need to remove the GX53 from the cartridge if it does not fit. The design allows for easy removal and insertion should be just as easy. It is fixed by turning and inserting the stops on the pins into a narrow place on the connector in the cartridge.

Replacing light bulbs with E14, E27 sockets

Light bulbs with such sockets are less common in spotlights than pin ones, but still. They just need to be unscrewed and removed from the lamp. Now we will tell you how to change it in a spotlight. Depending on its design, there may be a locking ring, as described in the first type of lamp, or the lamp itself may be removed from the ceiling. On plasterboard ceilings, these are held in place by spring-loaded legs located opposite each other and spread in different directions under the action of a spring. You need to carefully remove the spot from the ceiling without damaging the latter, after which it will be convenient to unscrew the light bulb and screw in a new one. The stops, under the action of tension, will close towards each other and release the lamp.

Replacing a lamp in a suspended ceiling

The lamp in the suspended ceiling is fixed through plastic mounting rings. The spot itself rests on spring-loaded legs. The paws rest against the ring through the tension fabric. To remove such a lamp, do just two steps:

  1. Grasp the ring in the stretch ceiling with your hand, slightly resting on it.
  2. Pull the lamp body.

The springs will give in and the stops will come out of the ring.

The rings can be located on the reverse side of the tension film. Do not mindlessly pull on the body; do it with smooth but confident movements. Usually the wire to the cartridge is long enough and should not create obstacles.

We told you how to change an LED lamp in a suspended ceiling, now let's learn about some of the subtleties. Our tips will help you do this without damaging the wiring and ceiling covering, as well as quickly burning out the lamp.

  1. If a lamp burns out in the same place more often than others, the problem is in the socket. Pin sockets are not designed for high power, so it is better to use energy-saving lamps, then the socket will last longer, but if it is already damaged, replace the lamp or socket.
  2. Do not paw the flask - use napkins and gloves. In addition to visual defects, this can lead to burnout of halogen light sources, as we have already mentioned. Such lamps need to be handled with a napkin or with gloves; simple HB from a hardware store will do. If you don’t have them at hand, you can even use medical ones. A napkin will also help avoid problems. The last option is paper tape.
  3. If the lamp does not work, do not use force. It can stick to the cartridge, this happens due to power surges and overheating. Duct tape or paper tape will help. You can cover the protruding edge of the flask and pull the edge of the tape. This way you can apply more force without damaging the ceiling.

Errors

The main mistake is the use of powerful halogen lamps. For example, the GU5.3 base does not tolerate working with lamps over 40 W. To make the lighting brighter, add more lamps, or use LED or fluorescent fixtures. With the same power consumption, LEDs shine five or more times brighter. The price of LEDs has dropped significantly over the past five years, and the quality of the products has improved. They are suitable for both backlight and main lighting

If you already have high-power LED devices installed, try white lamps. Warm light visually seems dimmer and softer, although they provide the same luminous flux.

Video on the topic

To consolidate the material covered, we suggest watching a video with tips on replacing lamps in spotlights. In the first video, the author shows how to get the lamp itself; it clearly demonstrates the fastening mechanism.

The second video shows replacing the MR16 GU5.3 12V lamp from halogen to LED.
