How to make beautiful backgammon. Do-it-yourself backgammon - drawings, dimensions. DIY backgammon chips. Working with the playing field

Option 1

Let's make backgammon from oak boards, about 5 cm thick. First, we'll make blanks for the backgammon frame - a plane for playing them. The boards need to be sawn into thinner planks that are glued together. This creates a flat playing field. Please note that in this way adjacent planks compensate for each other's warping. You can take a single sheet of plywood and divide it into 2 equal parts to create a base for a folding board. Folding backgammon fields are boxes that allow you to fold all the chips and dice after the game and store them for a long time without losing them.

Consequently, there are practically none. A small lock can provide additional security for your hotel door, especially where security is less than secure. By shuffling your ear through the backpack loop, you can also secure luggage on the train when we need to squint and we're not going to worry about luggage.

Very good equipment for storing money, documents and keys. No sachet for the neck, no pockets in which everything is haphazardly mixed, and a bag on the hips. With a strong clasp, it will look perfect when you are walking without a backpack in the city. For shoe repair, harness, glue, mounting structure. Recommended repair tape and 38mm tape.

The markings on the inner playing side of the board follow the 6+6 principle. Inside the sides it is necessary to mark holes for chips. Sometimes these holes are cut out from separate boards and nailed or glued on top, thus creating sides that mark the boundaries for placing chips. Next, a design is cut out on the outside; it is usually done using a special machine. Then the resulting playing field is tinted and the two folding parts are assembled by hand. The parts must fold and unfold freely. Select two mechanisms that ensure free movement of the halves of the backgammon field. Polishing is also important to avoid splinters and uneven surfaces. It is necessary to carefully check whether the boards fit together so that no cracks form over time.

The second part of the work is making the chips themselves. You can also make them from wood or select flat chips of the same size from another material - for example, from an old children's plastic toy.

Sometimes a backgammon board is combined with a chessboard on the other side. After you have made backgammon, you should not rush to play. The wooden product needs to rest for some time. 10 days will be enough.

For viewing and yes, but also for broadcasting emergency signals in extreme situations. The flat surface of a mirror can also come in handy when it comes to separating something small. Immortal repair kit. A small set of tailors will buy from 2 zlotys.

Like a needle and thread, and a safety pin, among other things. How often have you missed your trip? To get rid of unnecessary, longitudinal elements that get under the skin. Good as pliers or gripper in various unpredictable situations. Clean corners in electronics. To remove dirt from grooves, recesses and other inconvenient places in our equipment.

Option 2

  1. To make backgammon with your own hands, you need to take two suitable sheets of well-polished plywood measuring 480 mm on one side, 210 mm on the other, 4 mm thick.
  2. For drawing on the inner surface you need to prepare 3 colors: 2 shades of brown, one light or bronze paint in a can.
  3. Using a stencil, transfer the design to the surface, then glue a veneer of a matching color onto it. This operation requires accuracy and leisure.
  4. You can cover the surface of the board with a stencil applied to it with bronze paint.
  5. If the paint is not spray paint, use plain bronze paint and a sponge.
  6. Make blanks for the frame from thin slats. First glue the slats together, then glue them to the board.
  7. Cover the finished drawing with several layers of varnish.
  8. On a lathe it is necessary to turn chips with a diameter of 25 mm and a height of about 12 mm in the amount of 30 pieces. Leave 15 chips light, and cover the other 15 with stain. Apply varnish in several layers.
  9. You can make chips from checkers. To do this, buy 2 checker sets and select the required number of chips of two colors.
  10. If you are good at wood carving, carve an oriental pattern on the outside.
  11. Cut plywood trims for the outside. They should be about 20 mm smaller. Glue them.
  12. Mark the boundaries of the overlay with a curved plinth, you can buy it.
  13. Attach loops on one side and a hook on the other to both halves of the board.
  14. You can make not a folding backgammon board, but a stationary table. The surface of the old coffee table is marked, veneer is glued on or covered with paint through a stencil. They make the sides. Cover everything with several layers of varnish.

Restore damaged equipment. If not for the hip bag, maybe a leash? Slimmer than a sachet, suitable for carrying a key or case. Be visible, be safe! Something that can at the same time protect our neck, eyes, ears and still serve as a sleeping group.

Luminescent zipper

The first item in the gadgets category. It is easier to “move” in a sleeping bag when there is no light source. Cracking buckles in backpacks doesn't happen very often, but if such an adventure happens to find a solution, it can be embarrassing. One spare buckle costs only 3 zlotys.

Option 3

Find planks four centimeters wide and form dimensions from them. Using chips, draw half holes on the side planks and cut them out with a hand jigsaw for plywood. Then put all this on two pieces of plywood and lightly nail it with nails. Spread the slats with PVA glue (only Korean and in no case Russian, it is called Kong and usually comes as an additive to wallpaper glue under numbers 204, 205, etc.). Then, or in advance, you can put a pre-prepared picture on the plywood, like beautiful wallpaper, or simply burn it or paint it, although this is more difficult. There is nothing better than wallpaper. The thickness of the slats is from one to one and a half centimeters.

Option 4

A weapon for leeches, a cure for a sore throat. Several copies never harmed anyone. If lost or stolen, we can verify your identity. This may take you out of curiosity, and you can get serious if you are going on motorized vehicles or on a bicycle. Local events are usually unavoidable, so it is possible that we will find ourselves in a situation where we have to explore.

Piezoelectric itch leveling

For those traveling with children. When we lose sight of a child, we can easily find them using the system installed on the bracelets. Read more about the bracelet. This is a small device that will help in the fight against bites. Stops swelling, reduces itching, is painless, works against electric shock.

True connoisseurs of this game always have a beautiful board, and some even purchase a special table for playing backgammon - an ordinary coffee table, on the surface of which there are markings for the game. The choice of such boards and tables is huge: there are handmade wooden products and glass products. What makes them beautiful is usually the intricate patterns applied (by hand or at the factory). And everything would be fine, but such boards and tables are oh so expensive, so not everyone can afford to buy such a luxurious thing.

How many times have there been such situations that puffed soy and an open window does not help? In hot climates, the fan will certainly be used more than once. We will clean everything from nails to shoes. We clean everything from your face to your mug. Not the same person living on the road. For long hours spent on transportation, airport transfers or other circumstances where time may be extended, one of the following suggestions can be used. Some also seem to be good at interacting with locals.

We communicate with local radio stations and music heard romantically in small cheap rooms somewhere in Southeast Asia. Combined with a mug of endless fun and endless emotions. It's worth knowing the rules before leaving. Why not take the time to travel to learn how to play an instrument? Music, even played by an amateur, is also a pretty good incentive for integration.

Previously, we used to play backgammon on a regular wooden folding board, bought in a store. And although this board was very beautiful (carved and painted by hand), it was very large and bulky. Constantly taking it out and putting it back in the closet was tedious and troublesome.

My husband has long dreamed of a backgammon table. But we couldn’t find a suitable one - those that we liked were very expensive, and those that suited us in price did not suit us in appearance.

Both solutions have their followers. It is a pity to forget about reading on the go, because during its duration the ideal film nutrition will definitely come to drink the contents from the sheets or a small monitor. If there is no circle and cross, then foosball, if not foosball, is ships, if not ships, it is a city-state. A great opportunity to integrate with the local language and expand your knowledge of the geography of the country you are visiting. Maybe it will finally be possible to understand the mysterious cube?

Well combined with smoking while traveling, this is something to get your hands on. Best in producing wooden blocks. A simple logic puzzle that can keep you busy for a long time or kill time. Especially where it is very popular, for example in Albania. It will be a pleasant surprise for local residents to have their own set. Plus, you get the opportunity to train while your opponents are sleeping!

Then my husband suggested making the table ourselves. In addition, our usual coffee table was already quite worn out and we wanted to throw it away, so taking a risk and trying to remake it was quite possible.

We bought decorative plastic corners at a furniture fittings store. In the building materials department we purchased bronze spray paint in a can and wood varnish. For the drawing we chose the drawing of our playing board. Having cut out whatman paper to the size of the table, we redrew the drawing from the board onto it. I had to tinker a little: the dimensions of the table and the board did not match a little, and the drawing itself turned out to be intricate. When the drawing on whatman paper was ready and represented the future surface of the table, we carefully, with small scissors, cut out all the arrows and monograms of the drawing. The result is a stencil.

And this is a useful weapon, for example, in Nepal. Technology is advancing, new gadgets and new equipment are constantly being introduced to make traveling more comfortable and enjoyable. The cup theme revolution should be banned on the way. It takes up less space, is super ergonomic and useful for playing dice.

As heavy as a zipper, but there are times when you're traveling to appreciate a sip from an inside jacket pocket. If we know it won't be from saturated soil, we choose alumina. Much lighter, easier to fold. If, however, we know it will be cold, let's take a heater. They really improve comfort on the worst days. I had a great experience in Iceland.

Having degreased the surface of the table, we attached the stencil to it with “double” tape. From a distance of about 30 cm we applied bronze paint to the table. We applied the paint on top so that it would not spread under the whatman paper stencil. Instead of spray paint, you can use regular paint, but you will have to apply it to the table not with a brush, but with a piece of sponge.

Sometimes some of them are included in the backpack, but if we don't have one, then 1-2 may come in handy. For hanging, suspension, storage, stabilization. Instead of a sleeping bag to warm the country. He makes a table when he is not surrounded by any flat surface. It's easy to get into the backpack - it's thin.

The set is undoubtedly gaining popularity. On one side is a spoon, on the other is a fork. Do you think a survival bracelet is a good idea? We have 50 leaflets in a small container. One is enough for one bath. How long do you suffer from the lack of a corkscrew at the exit?

After waiting for the first layer to dry, we applied the second. After both layers had completely dried, we carefully peeled off the stencil and varnished the design. We glued decorative plastic corners to the corners of the table, which were also pre-coated with bronze paint. I glued golden sequins to the sides of the table, which successfully emphasized its oriental style. To prevent the sequins from clinging and coming off, we also varnished the sides of the table.

Now we no longer have to fiddle with the game board - in a matter of seconds we can place the pieces and play. And we didn’t have to throw out the table - you won’t find such a beautiful and practical table in any store!

Long, fitted trousers with breathable material

I'm being used for this marathon running shorts. They are a good replacement for pants and protect from the sun and leeches during trekking. For those who don’t quite feel comfortable in a tent or an airplane. The space is unoccupied, it is light and will protect you from the feeling of disappearing when you wake up.

It is absolutely impossible to forget. Due to its size and light weight. For a pair of gold to buy in Chinese stores or bazaars, the simplest model of gloves. Even if we go to a country where it is usually warm, they can check. One of the easiest things to lose, or glasses, can be saved with a simple line that fits into their frame. Not used, instead of a head we leave a neck and the chance that we will get lost somewhere decreases diametrically.

If you are inspired by our idea, go for it! Instead of markings for backgammon, you can put a chess pattern on the table (for fans of checkers and chess), or you can simply decorate it with some intricate design. The main thing is to show your imagination!

Option 5

Many factory-made boards combine the ability to play chess, checkers and backgammon, that is, 8x8 squares are drawn on one side of the board, and 6+6 markings are applied on the inside. There are holes for chips along the sides. Thus, chess pieces and checkers (chips), along with dice, are conveniently placed inside the board, which is folded in half and closed with a latch.

Many “craftsmen” have modernized their chessboards for backgammon. Indeed, this is the easiest way to do it, and the chips can be carved from wood or borrowed plastic ones from an unnecessary children's game. In principle, if you buy two sets for playing checkers (there are twelve pieces of each of different colors), you can select 30 chips for backgammon, fifteen of each color. Although all this will not be solid, such a set can be used to play backgammon at home. But it is unlikely that you will go somewhere to play for money with such backgammon.

The task of every traveler is to pack a backpack. It's not just about arranging your luggage so everything is within reach, but also about placing small items that you like. By the way, it is worth taking care of the waterproofness of individual batches of luggage. Here are some ideas on what else you can pack in certain parts of your inventory.

The shape of the box bottle is suitable for hanging loose or long items. Good for holding cables. Such microscopic containers can be purchased at pharmacies. We will hide salt in them or something small but very valuable. The 100 ml plastic bottle is ideal for carry-on luggage.

A complete set of backgammon consists of a playing board, thirty chips and two dice. The shape of the playing board resembles a closed book measuring 660*310mm (opened 660*620mm) and 35-40mm thick. It opens up, like a chessboard.

If the inner plane of the board is mentally divided into four equal parts by mutually perpendicular lines, you will get four rectangles. On some modern boards they are designated by letters of the Latin alphabet: A, B, C, D. They are placed in the middle of the smaller sides of the board (Figure 1).

It can be used as a storage box for small pins, buttons or tablets. It has always been used to sort groups of clothes in a backpack. The best thing about different colors is that it's easy to tell what they are without having to take everything out. Don’t order by phone :) There are many corporate models, but this “bazaar” can be bought 10 times cheaper.

The site implements the project “Young people play family” within the framework of the “Świętokrzyski for the Young” task, jointly financed by the Office of the Marshal of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. The goal is to launch youth board games. More than 50 titles available.

On each quarter of the board there are six semi-circular nest-fields, the radius of which is equal to the radius of ordinary checker pieces - 15mm. Chips move along these slots (along the perimeter of the board). The nests are numbered from one to six, starting from the outer (side) side of the board.

Above each field there is a sector with a height equal to five chip diameters (165-180mm). The sectors are drawn on the light plane of the board with black lines.

We are committed to continuing the project in rural areas, the construction of which is just beginning. What should I do to rent a board? The first credit is associated with the payment of an adult card. . I remind you that each Tenant is subject to the Terms and Conditions. The games were selected at a meeting and after consultation with the youngest residents of the city of Neznanowice.

Check available products. The first one wins 500 points. The player must get rid of all cards before the opponent. Points are awarded to the player for cards defeated by the opponent. When the cards are shuffled, each player receives 7 of them. The first pile card is revealed, and if it is a special card, its rules apply. The player sitting to the left of the dealer starts. The player must add a card that matches either a color or a symbol. If there is nothing to throw, he must draw a card from the "pile". The game varies by special cards, such as the next player drawing two cards or going around the turn.

On standard boards, quarters of the board are not marked, fields are not numbered, the placement of chips when playing long and short games is not indicated, and the directions of movement of the chips are not given, and this is very important, especially for beginners. Therefore, we recommend that on a new board - whether you bought it or made it yourself - apply all the symbols shown in Figure 1.

Package contents: 108 instructions. Throw the monkeys Don't let the monkey throw number of players: 2 to 4 players: 5 years. Players place the monkeys in their palm and remove the colored sticks that are thrown at their ankles. Whoever gets the smallest win wins! The game does not require reading skills and is ideal for young children. Parents will also feel great! The game requires skill and creates tension. Easy to learn and fun.

What is inside? 30 monkeys 30 sticks in three colors special cube. Number of players: from 2 to 5 people: 5 years. Turtles make good pets and are constantly jumping up and down from place to place. However, when they see lettuce on the horizon, they begin to vigorously exchange their paws. Without a second thought, they will rush towards it, taking every opportunity to climb onto the shell of another turtle and travel that way, although part of the route! During the game, none of the players know which color turtles belong to the opponents!

At the same time, 15 white and 15 black chips participate in the game. Regular checkers with a diameter of 30mm are suitable for a backgammon board of this size.

To determine the player who starts the game first (with white checkers) and the length of moves, two dice are used - black and white. The cubes are called "bones" or "zari". On the planes of the cube (side size 10-12mm) dots are applied - from one to six, like in dominoes. The edges and corners need to be slightly rounded so that the cubes roll freely when thrown.

In order to make your own backgammon board, you will need: two pieces of plywood 4mm thick, size 260*500mm;

eight wooden slats 10mm thick, 25mm wide (four 260mm long and four 500mm long);

two furniture loops measuring 30*30mm;

one or two furniture hooks for locking a closed board;

carnations 10 and 12 m long;

eight screws 8 - 10 mm long for hinges;

slats for figured strips (4 pieces).

Semicircular cutouts for nests on the slats can be cut out with a jigsaw, but it is better, if possible, to drill through holes and then saw them in half lengthwise. Then you will get two planks at once. The dimensions of the strip with sockets are shown in Figure 2.

Pieces of plywood, slats and planks need to be thoroughly cleaned with emery cloth. The slats are connected strictly at right angles, as shown in Figure 3. The shaped slats should fit tightly between the long slats. After the frames are knocked together, connect both rectangles with loops. They must be embedded so that they do not protrude above the surface of the slats and so that the heads of the screws are “recessed” into the holes of the hinges.

Then you need to put plywood on the outside of the frames and temporarily nail them with two nails. Then open the board and trace with a pencil along the inner and outer perimeter of the frames. Place the shaped strips inside the board and also trace along the contour of the nests.

Then detach the plywood from the frames, saw and plan them around the perimeter, apply all the markings with a pencil (Figure 1) and, if desired, decorate the outer planes. After this, cover all parts with one layer of colorless furniture varnish, rubbing it well into the surface of the wood. When the varnish dries, use black ink to outline the pencil marks. Contour lines should be 0.8mm thick. Apply the letter designations on the transverse slats of the frames with enamel or oil paint: A, B, C, D. Then varnish all the parts one or two more times, dry well and finally nail the lids to the frames. Then install the shaped strips and nail them with nails on the outside of the lids.

An ordinary chessboard can also be adapted to play backgammon. Then it must be painted on the inside and shaped strips made in accordance with the dimensions of the board. Chips will need a smaller diameter, according to the size of the resulting nests.

You can make a backgammon board yourself, preferably from wood, although plywood will also work, the main thing is that the surface of the playing field is smooth and polished!

More than five thousand years ago, the board game backgammon appeared. It is considered an ancient Eastern game. The first board was found in Asia Minor. The same trophy was later found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. According to scientists, the oldest specimen was created more than three thousand years BC.

Today, such a game can be purchased without any difficulty. However, some are interested in how to make backgammon with their own hands from wood.

general information

According to legends, one day the inhabitants of India decided to present the Persians with a game that they would not be able to solve. It was chess. However, one of the wise men of Persia easily figured out the essence of the resulting game and decided to send his game to India, which was called “backgammon takhte,” which translates as “fight on a wooden board.” Hindus could not figure out the essence of this game for more than 12 years.

Throughout Europe, the game began to gain popularity only in the 12th century. This happened thanks to the crusaders, who spread it throughout the western part of the mainland. At that time, backgammon was called "Backgammon", which refers to the sound of the bones hitting. However, among the nobility and royal families, the game was called the same as it is now.

Before you make backgammon with your own hands in pictures, you need to understand the essence of the game itself and what it develops. Like standard chess, the game in question is designed to develop the thinking of its players, namely resourcefulness and ingenuity. According to experts, playing backgammon every day contributes to the development of intelligence by 10 percent above the normal norm.

The backgammon board must be made in a rectangular shape.

24 points are applied to it from the top and bottom sides.

The playing field consists of two halves.

At each point there is a special triangle, the base of which extends along the perimeter of the point, and the height reaches the middle of the board.

The game uses special checkers, of which each player must have 15 pieces. Moves are determined by two dice. Sometimes glasses are used to mix them.

Joinery

To make backgammon with your own hands, you don’t have to be a master carpenter. Even a beginner who is just mastering the wood carving procedure can handle this. The first step is to draw up a detailed project with all the necessary drawings, after which you can get down to business. You will need the following materials:

  • loops for connecting two boards;
  • large sheet of plywood;
  • slats.

The plywood sheet must be pre-treated.

It should not have various roughnesses and burrs. It is necessary to carefully sand the surface of the wood.

To date There are three levels of dimension for backgammon:

  1. Small - 40 by 20 cm.
  2. Medium - 50 by 25 cm.
  3. Large ones - 60 by 30 cm.

The thickness of any backgammon should be no more than 3.5-4 centimeters.

In most cases, classic backgammon is made, which is not sheathed with additional material, and there is no need to make any pattern on its surface. Any beginner interested in the business can handle this kind of work.

In some cases, it is customary to apply a design, as well as cover the board with beautiful material. For example, you can consider a specimen made of alder. On the one hand, such material is veneered using ash.

Veneer must be applied exclusively to one side of the board. On the opposite side, plain paper, such as newspaper, is glued. This avoids deformation after the panel dries.

Drawing, carving and tinting

When the board is made, a suitable design is transferred to it. This is done using ordinary carbon paper, which can be purchased in specialized stores. The drawing must be carefully processed before application. Maintain all scales and symmetry. After transferring it to the surface of the board, it is recommended to correct any unevenness using your hand.

After this, you can proceed to the threading stage. You need to choose a background for it. Total There are two most popular methods for this:

After sampling the background, you can move on to the carving procedure itself.

To do this, you need to prepare suitable tools, namely:

  1. Several semicircular chisels, the size of which ranges from 6 to 9 mm.
  2. A blunt knife with an acute angle to the tip.
  3. Flat-shaped chisels, the size of which ranges from 1 to 10 mm.

You should start working on the ornament from the lower and upper edges of the panel, moving towards the center of the structure.

Where parts intersect, it is best to work with a knife. The thread depth should be no more than 2−3 mm.

After this, you can start working on tinting.

First thing need to process the carved panel. All carvings are covered with light-colored paint.

A medium shade is applied to the milled edges, but the stain should not be allowed to dry. After this, you can paint the rest of the board to your liking.

Manufacturing with burning

There is another way to make backgammon with your own hands. In this case, all patterns will be created using a burner rather than carving. First thing you need to prepare all the materials and tools:

The entire manufacturing procedure is divided into five simple steps.

Concerning chips, they are machined from any breed tree. You can make them yourself or purchase them ready-made in a specialized store. Their price is quite low and reasonable.

With your own hands you can create real masterpieces for playing backgammon. Lots of people around the world are creating truly amazing boards. Many such works can be found in stores, but their price will be greatly inflated due to handmade work.

Attention, TODAY only!

It’s the 21st century, and more and more the older generation is complaining that young people are captivated by various gadgets and don’t know how to spend time without them, that board books and games have sunk into oblivion. But this is far from the case, and in the modern world, board games are gaining more and more momentum. They have very significant advantages. Firstly, it’s always a lot of fun to spend your free time with them, and secondly, they can be classified as gifts that definitely won’t lie like dead weight. In this article we will tell you how to make backgammon with your own hands; the photos will help you decide on the desired product option.

Plywood product

This master class is more likely for men, but lovely ladies should not be upset, since you can try to make backgammon, but under the strict guidance of a man.

So, to create we need:

  • maple or walnut veneer;
  • plywood with a thickness of at least 6 mm;
  • brass screws;
  • necessary working tools;
  • sawing machine;
  • magnets;
  • patterns in pictures for decoration;
  • perseverance and hard work;
  • good mood.

Once you have prepared everything you need according to the list, you can get to work.

The most important thing is to prepare the veneer. Using a ruler, measure the maple and walnut block to measure 3.8 by 19.1 cm. Carefully cut out. Now you need to make the upper plates, the dimensions of which are 3.8 by 25.4 cm and the lower ones 5.1 by 25.4 cm. This is done by cutting out 13 mm wood.

Measure a distance of 250 mm from the ends of the upper plates and make mounting holes. Their diameter should be about 4 cm. Cut out the veneer strips, 15 pieces each. You should have four stacks.

Carefully align them along the edges and sandwich them between the bottom and top plates. Use brass screws to secure the top plates. Now you need a sawing machine. You need to go along each edge of the bag. It is better to take 60 teeth. Now turn the bag in the opposite direction and press it with its straight edge against the longitudinal stop. Use the machine to file the second edge of the bag. You should achieve 33mm width.

Repeat the entire algorithm with the remaining packets. Apply strips with tape on all sides of the bag and saw off the marked end, shortening the bag by 20 cm.

Take note! To make it easier, use a miter gauge that is rotated 5 degrees.

Do the same with the remaining packages.

Place new marks: 32 mm on the end and 165 mm on the side of the package, saw off the veneer package. What is backgammon without ornament? Take a strip of veneer, it is necessary to align the pattern. Assemble the square of the field and glue alternately light and dark triangles with oil tape.

When you count 6 dark and 7 light triangles on your field, then the square is completed. Make 3 more squares and remove the tape. Take two pieces of maple veneer, attach and align.

Carry out the entire algorithm for decorating the second side of the backgammon. Trim the playing field pieces so that the width is 191mm. Make side boards from maple and glue them to the base with glue. Make 4 MDF boards and two bases. Apply glue to the base and place the sheet on top. Press the bag between the MDF (2 cm thick). Check the field for evenness and, if necessary, level the playing field.

Mount the 6mm cutter in the machine. Route all sides. Label the playing field. Set up a 32mm wide saw and divide the box into two parts and cut out 2 partitions. Do the same for short partitions. Make a blank for loops on one half and drill 4 holes with a diameter of 1 cm. Thoroughly sand all blanks and varnish.

A little about other materials

Backgammon is made not only from plywood, but also from wood and plexiglass. Despite the fact that the plexiglass option is a feasible task, it requires professionalism and caution to the greatest extent. The most important thing is to cut the plexiglass correctly. For precise cutting, there are small tricks, for example, such as a “hot knife” and adapted shapes. For each master, the selection of tools is individual, since what is convenient for some may be completely inappropriate for others. But you need to clearly understand that these are not toys or an idle hobby, since the glass processing is 160 degrees.

Backgammon is an ancient Eastern game. The exact place of their origin is unknown, but they are already about 5,000 years old, which is confirmed by historical manuscripts. The oldest board for the game was discovered in Asia Minor, in the town of Shahri-Sukhte. Scientists have determined that the thing was created approximately 3000 BC. e. The same board was found in

One of the legends says that one day they decided to test the resourcefulness of the Persians and presented them with chess. They believed that they would not understand the rules of this unusual game. However, the sage from Persia was able to reveal the secret and in response sent them his game, which the Indians could not solve for 12 years. Bozorgmerkh sent them nothing more than a game of backgammon (translated from Persian “backgammon takhte” means “fight on a wooden board”).

The game spread to Western Europe thanks to the Crusaders in the 12th century. It gained popularity in the Middle Ages in European countries, where it got its name - backgammon. It simulates the impact of bones. The name "backgammon" was used among kings and nobles.

The game has gained considerable popularity in our time. Many craftsmen never cease to amaze with their new, original designs of inlay. This article will describe how to make backgammon with your own hands.

What does the game develop?

Just like chess, backgammon is designed to train thinking. Only in the first case does logical thinking develop, and in the second - resourcefulness and ingenuity. Scientists claim that after playing backgammon every day, the level of intelligence increases by 10%. Researchers in the UK came to this conclusion.

What does the board look like?

The board has a rectangular shape. It has 24 points (12 on each side). The board consists of two sides. Each point, as a rule, represents a narrow elongated triangle, the base of which is located along the edge, and the height reaches half the board. Six points on one side are called the player's house. Its location depends on the rules of the game. The board is divided down the middle by a vertical stripe called a "bar". Usually knocked down checkers are placed there. Each player has 15 of them. The move is determined by the pair - the charge. There are also two pairs for each player, as well as cups for mixing the dice.

Carpentry work when making boards

Many people are interested in how to make backgammon with their own hands. Even a beginner in wood carving can do this process. The first step is to draw up a detailed drawing. In this case, backgammon will be obtained without errors in size.

You will need:

  • plywood;
  • slats;
  • loops.

What should plywood be like? Polished carefully, it has no roughness or burrs, which is very important for the manufacturing process.

Board size

Before you make backgammon, decide what size board you want to get. They are different:

What is the main thing when carving on a backgammon board?

In most cases, carved backgammon, the dimensions of which are indicated above, are made in the classical style with its inherent flat reliefs. Even beginners will be able to do this kind of work. Half the success lies in the right design. Ornaments with plants or arabesques became widespread.

For example, consider panels made of alder. On one side they are veneered with ash. If you want to do this part of the work yourself, it should be noted that the veneer is applied only on one side. After drying, the panel will bend towards the veneer. To avoid getting a similar result, you should glue plain paper, or even newspaper, on the opposite side. When the glue dries, there will be no deformation in this case. When working with panels, it is recommended to place them on polyethylene from packaging with soft inflatable pimples. This will protect parts from damage during operation.

The film is placed with the smooth side facing the workpiece, otherwise during operation the chips will get stuck in the pimples and can damage the surface. When applying tone to a material, you may get an undesirable effect.

How to transfer a drawing?

The drawing is transferred to the workpiece using carbon paper. Stock up on a ready-made image, the scale of which is designed to be applied over the entire plane. This will help avoid breaking symmetry, which is an important point when making a board. After transferring the drawing using carbon paper, it should be corrected by hand.

Selection of background for thread

At such a stage as selecting the background for the thread, there are two methods:

Carving tools

To make backgammon with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • A blunt knife with an acute angle to the tip.
  • Flat shape chisels in sizes 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 mm.
  • Chisels with a semicircular shape measuring 6.9 mm.

Arabesque processing

After sampling the background in all hard-to-reach places, you should start working on the ornament. Start from the bottom and top edges of the panel. The intersections of the parts are cut with a knife. The depth is taken to be 2 mm. By trimming with a flat chisel, the lower and upper points of the design are revealed. Thus, the ornament will be intertwined.

Then future profiles of the drawing are drawn. Using a knife or a flat chisel, a convex part of the profile is formed. Then, using semicircular chisels, the concave parts of the profiles are processed. The operation should be repeated with the central part of the ornament. The drawing needs to be worked on a second time, correcting all the shortcomings.

Matting the background

Matting the background involves piercing it around all the carved elements. This can achieve the graphic quality of arabesques. For this purpose, you can use a simple sharpened screw. Various punches are also used. Then tattooing of all remaining parts continues. The carving process ends at this stage, and you can begin the finishing part.

Adding tone

Do-it-yourself backgammon involves tinting. For this process, you can use water stains. Usually one color is used, which is diluted to three shades: light, medium and dark. In this case, two types of wood were used: ash and alder. To emphasize the beauty of each of them, two stain colors were used: dark oak and teak. Teak is suitable for ash, and dark oak is suitable for alder.

First of all, the carved panel must be tinted. The lightest paint covers all the carvings. Then, without allowing the stain to dry, a medium shade is applied to the milled edges of the panel.

The next stage involves coloring the background. It is covered with the darkest tone. They do this with caution. The paint is applied with extreme care so as not to get on the light part. Painting should begin from the center of the selected background area, moving to the rising carved parts. In this case, a minimal amount of dye is taken with the brush.

The wooden surface should be allowed to dry, and then the other side should be covered with teak stain. The carpentry components of the boards are coated with the same tone.

After the stain has dried, the raised lint is removed using sandpaper. The main thing is not to damage the paint on the sharp edges that remain on the threads after working with chisels.

The entire board is coated with colorless varnish. For this purpose, a two-component matte varnish is used.

The second option for making backgammon

The manufacture of such a product as carved backgammon was described above. Another method involves burning patterns.

To make backgammon with your own hands using the second method, you will need:

Progress

The process of making a backgammon board in this case involves the following steps:

  • The work begins with the design of the external and internal sides. The prepared drawing is burned on both sides according to the selected cliche.
  • glued into a tenon and glued along the perimeter of the board.
  • Holes for chips are cut out in wide slats and also glued.
  • Next, the hinges and lock are installed.
  • Finally, the board is coated with three layers of colorless varnish.

What chips are used?

The chips are machined from You can use ready-made plastic ones for playing checkers.

Conclusion

The most beautiful backgammon boards are not like chess boards. Their reverse side is always decorated with magnificent patterns or designs. Handmade backgammon looks impressive. The price for such a product is quite high.
