Interior doors for rooms with high ceilings. High interior doors “Helder. Silver and glass

fashion trend in modern interior design - interior opening, which extends upward by 3-4 m, occupying the space from the upper to the lower ceiling of the room. It is intended to equip it high door to the ceiling - a non-standard product that combines impeccable functionality with interesting decoration possibilities. Structures of this type are made using a special technology using:

  1. special strings integrated into the canvas to maintain its perfectly vertical position. Such components, in particular, are present in the structure of Academy brand products;
  2. durable, wear-resistant fittings. Hinged sashes are equipped with one or two more hinges, sliding sashes are equipped with reinforced rollers designed for significant loads;
  3. boxes are usually made of high-strength, but lightweight aluminum. Metal load-bearing element makes tall interior doors to the ceiling rigid and stable, and also emphasizes their unique style.

Current model design options

Door of non-standard height , as a rule, is a smooth canvas without burdening decorative elements. Moreover, some solutions of this kind do not even involve the installation of platbands. They are fixed flush with the wall, creating the effect of a single, immaculately flat plane.

At the same time, you can buy a high door up to the ceiling in various finishes, either:

  • primer for painting. The design, devoid of a final appearance, has an undoubted advantage - the ability to adapt to the needs of the most extraordinary interior. It can simply be treated with enamel of the shade you like, disguised with wallpaper, turned into a stylish bright panel, decorated with fabric, tiles, etc.;
  • enamel, including those with an expressive glossy effect. The painted product fits perfectly into a minimalist ensemble and pleases with decent practicality;
  • natural veneer, the natural beauty of which creates an interesting contrast with the emphasized laconicism of high interior doors to the ceiling.

Models are made not only made of wood , but also made of super-resistant glass. The peculiarity of translucent solutions is that even with very large dimensions they retain airiness, eliminating the risk of overloading the room. In trendy interiors, both visually permeable products that do not hide the view, as well as options that have been matted, tinted, or painted, sound harmonious.

What are the advantages of large-sized sashes?

Tall door to the ceiling, purchased from Academy at favorable price, will help:

  • visually enlarge the territory;
  • arrange a room of any size. A laconic model combined with sliding mechanism, will not even burden limited space;
  • visually raise the top floor, making the room higher, freer, more solemn;
  • ensure unhindered passage through the opening for tall people.

Despite their large size, well-made and installed canvases are easy to use.

Quite recently, by chance, I attended a master class by the well-known decorator Irina Dymova in our country, and even beyond its aisles. She cited as an example a case that happened on one of her projects. She got a large spacious hall, also known as a living room, in a country house. The problem was that at the end of this hall there was a small door leading to the kitchen. Not only was the size of the door inconsistent with the size of the hall, but it was also located somewhat to the side, not on the main center line. Irina found several interesting solutions how to level the space. Among other things, she made a false door, in which only one part was a passage (highlighted in red in the photo), and the rest was decor.

I liked this idea and decided to explore what other ways I could change the doorway to make it appear larger, wider, taller, depending on the decorator's goals.

Add windows

A fairly common technique is to add small windows on the sides or top. If the door were the same size as the entire door+window opening, it would be too heavy, bulky and expensive. In this case, you can install a standard door.

Paint

The simplest and budget solution. Most importantly, this method, unlike the previous one, can be used when the repair is already completed. With the first method, such a number will not work; for it you need to widen the doorway, and this means a lot of dirt and dust.

Make an overlay

Just as a headdress makes a person taller, plinths, platbands, capitals, portals and other decorative elements, depending on which side they are attached to, make the opening either visually higher or wider.

This decor can also be attached after major repairs.

Add glass or mirror

Unlike the first point, here we are talking about inserting glass or mirror into the door leaf itself. If the door design allows, this can be done even on already installed door. The glazing beads that hold the panel are carefully pulled out, and glass or a mirror is installed in its place.

The effect, I think, is clear: the glass/mirror adds depth to the doorway, and psychologically it appears larger.

Make a sliding door

Of course, the effect of an enlarged doorway will occur if the door moves from the outside rather than retracting inside the wall. Then the opening seems to become double. We see the passage itself and the moved door. The effect of a large double door appears.

Our perception is limited and easy to deceive. If you do not have the opportunity to physically increase the space, you can visually change its dimensions.

In most cases, when talking about door leaves that reach the ceiling, they remember their ability to visually “raise” the upper plane and make the room taller. Really, - This is a noticeable and effective vertical that can orient the interior layout.

However, the possibilities of non-standard panels are not limited to this, and if ordinary sliding doors are simply convenient and do not take up much space, then taller similar designs allow you to instantly transform the space, combining or isolating rooms as desired.

Often, the impossibility of increasing the size of all openings in the room is cited as an argument against buying ready-made or purchasing tall doors to order. If there are several openings in a hall, corridor or passage room, one of which must retain its dimensions, different heights doors will not look in the best possible way. Indeed, not every opening can be changed, but in this case, high interior doors with a transom can be an excellent solution.

A transom is called a “superstructure” over the canvas, which, like the rest of the structure, can be made of almost any material, be solid or glazed, and have a rectangular or arched shape.

If desired, install tall structures in a “complex” room, doors with transoms are installed in modified doorways, and the opening that has become a “stumbling block” is equipped with an identical design standard size, after which an overlay is installed above it, simulating a transom.

However, doors with a transom can be chosen without the need to solve complex problems. They are spectacular and are perfect if you want to install structures up to the ceiling, but do not want to open bulky panels. Such high doors in the interior can be not only classic or retro in style; designs with an additional upper element are also available in modern design.

The transom should be identical to the door leaf and frame, they are:

are made from the same material,

have the same finish

match in style.

The only difference may be the presence or absence of glazing. Thus, solid doors can be crowned with an arched element with glass inserts. If glazing is also present in the canvas, the type and color of the glass must be the same.

Doors up to the ceiling are most often made to order, after precise measurements. This allows you to create a canvas and box that best matches the height of the room. Except ordinary apartments or apartments with improved layout high ceilings, non-standard doors can be installed in cottages or houses created according to special projects, at any height of the room or hall.

Known Issue – small apartments. A good solution - sliding doors - is not always suitable: sometimes there is so little space that all the walls are filled with furniture and there is nowhere to move the panel. But if the partition is not load-bearing and can be partially dismantled, then there is still an option: sliding doors that slide into the wall.

Structurally, built-in interior doors are no different from compartment doors; they are based on the same components: a door leaf (one or two), guide rails, carriages with rollers and fittings. If desired, an electric drive. The only difference is that when opened, the canvas is hidden from view. In the converted section of the wall there is a cassette into which the door slides on rollers.

The canvas itself can be anything: wood, glass, plastic. You can choose an option that will be in perfect harmony with the rest of the doors and the interior as a whole. The roller mechanism is also no different from the standard one.

The difference is in the fittings: locks and handles should not interfere with the movement of the canvas into the wall. You need to decide on handles and locks in advance. If the sliding door goes completely into the wall, you will need a lock with a button to close it.

The second difference is that sliding doors that slide into the wall require more energy-intensive installation than compartment doors. It is necessary to dismantle part of the wall, fix the cassette, cover the structure with gypsum board and complete the repair with finishing. There will be a lot construction waste, you need to prepare for this in advance.

It is better to buy built-in doors into the wall complete with a cassette. Buying an additional cassette later and installing it separately will be too expensive and energy-intensive. The pencil case door kit already includes everything you need - the door leaf, mechanism, fittings and cassette.

Attention: the pencil cases are different for partitions made of brick and plasterboard. This needs to be clarified when purchasing.

Installation sequence

1. Check the verticality of the walls and carefully calculate the opening (two widths of the canvas).

2. Dismantle required area, if possible without unnecessary destruction.

3. Process the opening, seal the cracks.

4. Install the pencil case and secure it with mortgages. The upper mortgages will serve to securely fix the canvas, preventing movement of the structure.

5. Sew up the cassette with plasterboard: top edge placed over the enclosing box.

6. Install built-in doors and fittings.

7. Produce finishing walls.

8. Install platbands.

Sliding doors moving into the wall - a good option save space occupied an ordinary door, but they take away 10 centimeters of the thickness of the room due to the cassette. That's why perfect option To install them, install built-in doors instead of self-supporting walls.
