Essential oils in a humidifier. Is it possible to catch a cold from a humidifier Does a humidifier help with a cold

A humidifier will help create an optimal climate and prevent the development of a number of unpleasant phenomena. Fragrances for air humidifiers help in the treatment of colds, promote relaxation. Let's take a closer look at which essences are most effective, and when they can be used.

Why do you need a humidifier?

During the season, the air in apartments and houses becomes overdried. This leads to a deterioration in the performance of the immune system, the respiratory mucosa dries up and cannot resist the penetration of pathogens. To avoid health problems, experts recommend artificially increasing the level of humidity in the room. This is what humidifiers are used for.

The air conditioning device helps to quickly cope with the problem of dry air. Pediatricians recommend putting such devices in the nursery, because babies need to breathe air that will not adversely affect the mucous membranes. In addition, with normal humidity, the child sleeps much better.

Ultrasonic humidifiers are currently the most popular. They break water droplets into small particles thanks to high-frequency vibrations. The resulting "water spray" is evenly distributed throughout the room. Also on sale you can find steam and traditional types of devices. Humidifier-purifier-air fragrance belongs to the category of climatic complex devices.

The use of flavors

Every person wants fresh, pleasant aromas to reign in his house. This not only helps to create a feeling of comfort, but also promotes psychological relaxation. Some models of air humidifiers have an additional feature that allows you to use aromatic compositions. The device helps to distribute pleasant odors and bring the level of humidity back to normal.

Can fragrances be added to a humidifier? Not all such devices have a special built-in compartment for essential oils. It is strictly forbidden to add various essences to ultrasonic, steam and traditional types of devices. This can lead to poor performance or premature failure of the equipment. Only a few of these types of humidifiers are designed for the use of aroma oils. Therefore, before buying a unit, you should check the availability of this function in a particular model.

Benefit

The function of aromatherapy in humidifiers is sometimes very useful, because with its help you can get rid of many pathological conditions. So, some types of essences can positively affect the condition of the skin, respiratory and nervous systems. Antioxidants contained in essential oils slow down the aging process and remove harmful substances from the body.

You can also use fragrances for a humidifier in cases where it is necessary to optimize the vitality of the body as a whole. Certain components improve the functioning of the brain, stabilize the emotional state.

Despite the seemingly harmless nature of this method, there are certain contraindications to conducting aroma sessions.

What is the danger?

Improper use of essential oils will only harm the body. If you exceed the dosage, there is a huge risk of getting a headache instead of a good mood. With extreme caution, such funds should be used by people prone to allergic reactions. Coniferous oils are the most dangerous in this case.

During the period of bearing a baby and lactation, not all fragrant essences are allowed to be used. Inhalation of rosemary, sage, cedar and basil essential oil vapors can adversely affect the course of pregnancy. And during the period of feeding, particles of ether penetrate into breast milk and enter the blood of the child.

What humidifiers can be used for aromatherapy?

A device with an air “washing” function is best suited for the use of aromatic mixtures. An air humidifier with an aromatizer and an ionizer allows you to saturate the room with negative and positive ions, as well as fill the room with a pleasant smell. One of the popular models is NeoClima NHL-075. The device has an original design, large volume and relatively low cost.

A richer functionality is offered by the Steba LR 5 Elektronic integrated climate control device. The humidifier-ionizer with fragrance function works almost silently, which allows you to install it even in a children's bedroom.

The principle of operation of the device

Conventional ultrasonic type humidifier could quickly win the attention of consumers. Such devices have a compact size and modern design. They manage to evaporate moisture due to ultrasonic (high-frequency) vibrations of the membrane, which is responsible for the transformation of water into an aerosol. This type of steam is called "cold". Ultrasonic humidifiers work almost silently and quickly restore the normal level of humidity in the living room.

Fragrances for air humidifiers must not be added directly to the water tank if the device does not have a special compartment. This practice will initially have, of course, a positive effect. However, after some time, the parts and components of the device will stop working.

In units designed for moisturizing and aromatherapy, there is a container or capsule near the atomizer where the essence can be placed. When the water begins to evaporate under the influence of temperature or ultrasound, aromatic oils also evaporate in parallel.

Aroma humidifier

How to use and how to choose an aroma humidifier? The possibility of saturating the air in the room with a pleasant smell with the help of a special device is undoubtedly a positive thing. Particles of essential oils, which will evaporate simultaneously with water aerosol, will fill the air with phytoncides, which have a powerful healing effect. A pleasant aroma will help improve mood and strengthen the immune system.

When choosing a device for humidifying the air with a function of aromatization, you should pay attention to the volume of the water tank. The size of the tank depends entirely on the area on which the humidifier will have to work. The five-liter tank is designed for a room up to 20 m². The presence of a hydrometer will also be an advantage, allowing you to monitor the level of humidity.

Where should the device be placed?

The device must be installed at a height of no more than 1 meter from the floor. This will allow you to evenly distribute the aerosol with particles of essential oils. The surface on which the humidifier will stand must be flat. It is best to place it in an impassable place where the possibility of accidental tipping over will be excluded.

The steam that will come out of the device must not fall directly on furniture or indoor plants. The jet is capable of leaving white marks on various surfaces. To avoid this phenomenon, it is recommended to use purified water.

What flavor can be used?

In the air humidifier, which is planned to be used for aromatherapy sessions, there must be a compartment where essential oils can be poured. For this purpose, any flavors are suitable, ranging from extracts from medicinal chamomile to eucalyptus essential oil.

You can add the following aromatherapy products to your humidifier:

  1. Orange oil - perfectly copes with the symptoms of anxiety and depression, improves mood and gives vigor.
  2. Lemon oil - sour aroma helps to fight colds and headaches wonderfully.
  3. Chamomile oil - has anti-inflammatory, anti-stress and relaxing effect.
  4. Basil oil - a powerful antimicrobial effect can be directed to the fight against flu and colds.
  5. Eucalyptus oil - contains a huge amount of phytoncides that prevent the development of viral pathologies and destroy microbes.
  6. Lavender oil - famous for its ability to eliminate insomnia, depression, headache.
  7. Tea tree oil - has a powerful antimicrobial and antifungal effect.
  8. Anise oil - will help in the treatment of wet cough.
  9. Peppermint oil - calms the nervous system and normalizes the emotional state.
  10. Oil of pine, arborvitae, cypress and juniper - recommended for use in the treatment of viral ailments and seasonal colds.

Water soluble aromatic oils

Can water soluble fragrances be used in a humidifier? Such oils differ from real ether only in concentration. Therefore, they can be used for aromatherapy with a humidifier.

To obtain a water-soluble oil, it is necessary to reduce the viscosity and density by removing glycerol from the composition. This component is replaced by alcohol. Experts say that the resulting product has the same properties as real essential oil.

Making your own fragrance

Far in all cases, you can use a fragrance for a humidifier. With your own hands, you can make a device that will help fill the atmosphere of the room with a pleasant smell if the climatic device does not have such functionality.

The easiest option is soda flavoring. It will require a small glass container, on which you can put on a lid with holes, your favorite essential oils and soda. The third part of the jar must be filled with soda, add 10 drops of ether, mix and close the lid.

The treatment of the common cold does not begin with pills. First, before all the pills, you need to answer one question: how to breathe?

Article content:

Causes of a runny nose

In 99% of cases, a runny nose is caused by viruses. Then we are talking about acute respiratory viral infections. Why are they called respiratory? Because it affects the respiratory tract.

What has the greatest effect on the respiratory tract? What we breathe has the greatest impact. Therefore, when we talk about the treatment of a runny nose, first of all we are talking about what a child with a runny nose should breathe. If a child has a runny nose, then he needs humidity - 50-60%. But the fact is that low humidity falls on the ARI season.

Air for colds

A sick child with a runny nose should not freeze. He must be dressed warmly enough. The optimum air temperature is 20 degrees. And yet, no matter what temperature we breathe in, the air we breathe out has body temperature. If the child has 39, and the air is 20, then we inhaled air with a temperature of 20, and exhaled 39. We lost a certain amount of heat. And if the air is 26, then we inhaled 26, and exhaled 39. And we lost less heat. It often happens like this: if you have a temperature of 39 and a runny nose, then it is enough to reduce the air in the room, and you do not have any sores. If the child has a high temperature and a runny nose, then you dressed him warmly and lowered the temperature in the room. It is very important to control the humidity of the air. Humidity is monitored using a device called a hygrometer. It can be bought at any pet store. If you want to get a toad, then without a hygrometer in any way. And you can have a baby without a hygrometer.

Physics and treatment of the common cold

What devices are needed for the treatment of the common cold? First, let's solve a physics problem. The room is 25 degrees, humidity 20%. Humidity is 100% outside at 0 degrees. What will happen to the humidity in the room if we open the window. Answer: The ability of water to dissolve in air depends on the temperature of the air. There is practically no water in the air with a temperature of 0 degrees, but the humidity is 100%. But when moist cold air enters the room and heats up, it dries the air in the room.

If it is hot in our place and we open the window, we will never humidify the room. Therefore, the temperature in the room should not be maintained by an open window, but by a properly heated battery. Still, underfloor heating is one of the most effective ways to dry the air. We must ensure that the air humidity is between 50 and 70%. The first is to close the battery so that it does not give off excess heat. Use a device called "Home Humidifier". But if you turn on the humidifier and open the window, then you humidify the air outside. Therefore, it is important for the child that the child put on warm pajamas, cover himself with a warm blanket and go to bed in a room where the temperature is 18 degrees and the humidity is 50-70%. Then your child has every chance to recover within 5 days, without doctors, without pills.

Humidifier for the treatment of the common cold

If your children often get sick with a runny nose, if you don’t have regulators on your batteries, then you need to think about how to give money to a plumber, and not how to give money to a pharmacist. Therefore, for our country, normal plumbers are much more relevant than pharmacists.

In an average panel house in a room of 15 sq. meters humidifier per day gives 3-4 liters of water.

In our country, mothers think about air humidification in 2 cases: when they decide to start a summer garden and when they put expensive parquet. These are 2 situations when hydration is relevant for us. Having children is not one of them.

How to cure a runny nose without medication

The main task is air 18-20 degrees, air humidity from 50 to 70%. If you achieve this, then the runny nose will pass quickly and easily. If you don’t get it, you will go to pharmacies.

Treatment of the common cold with physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is one of the most effective methods of non-drug treatment of nasal congestion. At home, it is good to use the apparatus for the treatment of the common cold Fairy. Due to the thermal effect, inflammation in the nasopharynx decreases and recovery occurs much faster. With the help of the device, you can get rid of sinusitis, rhinitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis.

Treatment for a runny nose and a jar of water

If there is no way to buy a humidifier to treat a runny nose, can you put a jar of water? You can put a jar, you can put a basin, but there are few chances that 3-4 liters of water will evaporate in a day. I have nothing to do with humidifier manufacturers. But every woman receives money in connection with the birth of a child. And they think that for this money you need to buy a heater. What about a humidifier?

Anything that warms the air dries the air. But the most surprising thing is that everything that cools the air (air conditioners) also dries the air. As soon as we try to do something with the air, it leads to low humidity. Therefore, low humidity is one of the global problems of civilization. This is the problem that determines the frequent childhood morbidity. It is the low humidity in kindergartens and schools that leads to the fact that children start to get sick when they start visiting these institutions. A good option for humidification is an aquarium. Beautiful, humid, water 25 degrees, 3 liters evaporate a day easily.

Treatment of the common cold with a nebulizer

A nebulizer is a device that creates an aerosol with very small particles. The smaller the aerosol particle, the deeper it enters the respiratory tract. When a runny nose or sore throat is treated, the aerosol particles must be large in order to settle in the upper respiratory tract. When severe lung diseases, asthma, chronic pneumonia, tuberculosis are treated, devices are needed that create very small particles. And with the help of these devices, drugs can be administered not by injections in the ass, but by inhalation. A nebulizer is a device for the treatment of severe inflammatory lung diseases. Which have nothing to do with the treatment of the common cold. But the manufacturers of nebulizers do not talk about this.

Taking a bath to treat a runny nose

When a child's snot thickens a little on the third day, it is recommended to take a bath many times a day. A little over 30 degrees. Then the snot liquefies. Climbing into the bath is like breathing air with 100% humidity for some time. But it is much easier to achieve moistening of the respiratory tract by regularly dripping saline solutions into the nose. It's more physiological. Because a normal animal, including a person, being sick, does not experience special pleasure from baths 3 times a day. If your child is so seriously ill that he is ready to jump and jump in the bath, then for God's sake. Bathe in a bath.

Humidity and dampness.

High humidity is not desirable, if only because it provokes the reproduction of mold fungi, which are often sources of allergies. Therefore, no one calls for having a humidity above 70%. But in our country in the summer, the humidity is above 70 and nothing bad happens. But indoors constantly high humidity is not desirable. Therefore, I urge you to measure humidity not by touch, not by whether mold has appeared on the wall or not, but in a civilized way. No one says: it seems the temperature is 20 degrees here, everyone is looking at the thermometer. So use a hygrometer.

Humidity and bronchial asthma.

Our beloved grandmother has bronchial asthma. Humid air is contraindicated for her. And we want to buy a humidifier. What to do?

No one is forcing your grandmother to live in dampness. Explain to your grandmother that dry air is contraindicated for asthmatics no less than dampness. You bought a humidifier not to mock the unfortunate grandmother, but so that your grandmother could breathe normal air. All summer long your grandmother breathes air with humidity above 60%. Where are you taking your grandmother in the summer? Grandparents with asthma, and grandparents, and children should breathe normal air, with normal humidity between 40 and 60%. Dampness is not necessary, but make the humidity normal.

What kind of water to pour into the humidifier?

In unboiled water, there are calcium salts, which, evaporating, settle on the furniture with a thin film, which is not entirely aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, it is necessary to pour either distilled or boiled water into the humidifier.

Treatment of the common cold begins with the answer to the question of how to breathe. Without answering this question, it is impossible to treat a runny nose.

The common cold usually lasts about a week, although it can last longer. If a cold lasts more than two weeks, then it may be something more serious that requires medical attention. Mild colds can go away without treatment

1. Drink More Fluids

As your main cold remedy, try drinking more water, juices, and other beverages such as tea. Fluid prevents dryness in the throat and nose, and to help keep mucous membranes open. Fluid is also needed if you have a fever. In this case, the risk of loss of body fluid increases, and it must be maintained. In addition, it helps to remove toxins from the body formed by dead cells.

2. Avoid coffee and alcohol

Try not to drink drinks containing caffeine and alcohol. They tend to dehydrate our body. And this is not what you need there for a cold.

3. Water vapor and hot bath

Water vapor and a hot bath are the most common ways to treat a cold at home. Some turn on hot water in the bathroom and breathe in the warm vapour. Someone inhales the steam of water poured into some kind of container. The virus is sensitive to high temperatures, so it is possible to “kill” the virus through the nasal cavity in this way.

4. Hot soup

Many people think that soup is the best cure for a cold. The main feature of this method is the broth contained in the soup. It helps to maintain the fluid level in the body, and the steam from the hot broth has a beneficial effect on the diseased body. Studies have shown that chicken broth soup reduces sinus inflammation and helps to heal a cold faster. Also, chicken soup contains protein, which is necessary for the formation of antibodies that attack viruses.

5. Use humidifiers

These devices do a good job of humidifying the air. This can help keep the sinuses moist and avoid nasal congestion. When using humidifiers, clean them regularly to avoid the possibility of harmful bacteria getting into the air. If you have a small child, then it makes sense to choose an air washer, which not only moisturizes, but also “cleanses” the air from dust and other by no means useful particles.

6. Rest

One of the most important factors in treating a cold is good sleep and rest. Your body needs enough rest to better, faster and more effectively fight off the cold virus. If you have a fever, you should definitely stay at home, turn off your cell phone and try to relax. Many people like to avoid this advice. But experts advise to stay at home and relax for a couple of days in the warmth (at a temperature of 24-25 degrees Celsius).

7. Rinse your mouth with salt water

You may have heard something similar from your grandmother or mother, but it is practically proven that you need to rinse your mouth with salt water - this is one way to treat a sore throat. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and rinse your mouth 5-6 times. It will definitely help your throat.

8. Don't smoke

You must stop smoking for many reasons. But in our case, smoking adversely affects the treatment process. Do not forget that passive smoking has the same harmful effects.

9. Review your diet

Although it has not been proven that diet can help fight a cold, fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C, which helps to get through the days of a cold faster. Vitamin C enhances the protective properties of the body, protects against viral diseases and improves the functioning of white blood cells, the main role of which is the attack of viruses.

Here are foods that should help you get over your cold faster:
- garlic
- honey
- peppermint
- oranges, lemon, grapefruit, parsley, celery, cauliflower
- products containing zinc

10. Stop doing physical activity

Forget about training and other physical activities for a while. For 3-4 days, give your body the opportunity to recuperate to cope with viruses.

Greetings to all who visit!
I wanted to share with you an event that was just a discovery for me! Although, of course, it is not a discovery in itself and is known to any pediatrician.

The story is that I am a mother of two daughters. They are now 7 and 5 years old. They do not attend kindergarten and never did, so the period of endless illnesses began with us only now, when the eldest went to school. For 3.5 months of study, we fell ill 6 times, and I get sick together with the children.
The eldest daughter is stronger and recovers faster, while the younger one always coughs for a long time. (and I am with her) And now we have been coughing for a couple of weeks for 3 weeks, and the cough is dry. The syrups don't help. A bottle of lazolvan, gedelix was drunk, an infinite amount of mukaltin was eaten, a lazolvan nebulizer was bought for it, and constant inhalations not only with it, but also with a solution of soda and just mineral water. But the saddest thing is that we did not have time to recover, and the eldest daughter brought a new disease. And even worse, my daughter developed an allergy to all these syrups, in short, we stopped drinking them, and I was also disappointed in the nebulizer ...... TTT so far everything goes without complications, the pediatrician does not find anything in the lungs.

And in the store I came across a book by Komarovsky: ORZ: a guide for sane parents. The book is large - about 600 pages. And throughout the whole book, one thought is simply hammered in. That all these cough medicines will not help if the house is dry and warm and the child drinks little.
It just hit me like a thunderbolt. Well, after all, a million times the pediatrician said recommendations - a plentiful warm drink. But after all, I did not perceive it as an integral part of the treatment. In the book, this is simply hammered into the head, repeated many times and highlighted in every possible way.
This was the first point of treatment, the second was the creation of a good climate in the apartment for recovery, namely, lowering the temperature in the room to +18 degrees and creating humidity in the apartment.
Okay, I covered the batteries with wet towels, hung the washed clothes around the apartment. The truth was able to lower the temperature only to +21, and then with a scandal. Since we are accustomed to 24, 21 is already perceived as a terrible cold. But something was all to no avail, the cough remained dry as it was. My husband apparently got tired of my running around with wet towels around the apartment, and he went and bought a humidifier.

We turned it on for lunch. By evening, I felt that the cough had become more productive. And the process went on, the night slept normally. Instead of a constant painful and unproductive cough, there were several attacks during the night - she coughed for a couple of minutes, cleared her throat, fell asleep. My daughter was exactly the same. Before that, we had not slept for several nights, because the cough was strong and frequent, but did not bring relief.
Now a day has passed, how the humidifier works, my daughter coughs very gently, clears her throat well. I also feel myself getting better. We drink water, right by the clock, like medicine. I set the timer for 30 minutes and when it rings, we drink the third part of the glass. Then I set the timer again.

Here, of course, I can assume that everything coincided and the disease itself is already coming to an end. And apparently, you still need to get sick several times in order to confirm the effectiveness of the humidifier. .
But now I definitely have no reason not to trust Komarovsky. He writes that when creating a humid, cool atmosphere in the house, there is no great need for medication, the body can handle everything on its own. And complications occur much less frequently.

I would be glad if this information helps someone. And I highly recommend this book.
