The fairy tale "The Little Prince" is the most famous work of Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The salvation of mankind from the coming inevitable catastrophe is one of the main themes of the fairy tale "The Little Prince". This poetic tale is about the courage and wisdom of an artless child's soul, about such important "non-childish" concepts as life and death, love and responsibility, friendship and fidelity. Saint-Exupery takes the traditional fairy tale as a basis. A handsome prince leaves his father's house because of unhappy love and wanders along endless roads in search of happiness and adventure. He tries to gain fame and thereby win the impregnable heart of the princess. Prince Charming is just a child who suffers from a capricious and eccentric flower. All sorts of trials fall to the share of the little prince. In his wanderings, the little prince meets not with fabulous monsters, but with people bewitched, like an evil spell, by selfish and petty passions. But that's only outer side plot. Despite the fact that the Little Prince is a child, a true vision of the world opens up to him, which is inaccessible even to an adult. Yes, and people with dead souls that the main character meets on his way are much scarier. fabulous monsters. The relationship between the prince and the Rose is much more complicated than the relationship between princes and princesses from folklore tales. After all, it is for the sake of the Rose that the Little Prince sacrifices his material shell - he chooses bodily death. There are two in the story storylines: the narrator and the related theme of the world of adults and - the line of the Little Prince, the story of his life.
The little prince is a symbol of a person - a wanderer in the universe, looking for the hidden meaning of things and his own life. The soul of the little prince is not shackled by the ice of indifference, deadness. He opens the true vision of the world: he learns the price of true friendship, love and beauty. He leaves his own planet, not knowing that what he will look for on different planets will be so close - on his home planet. The little prince is laconic - he speaks very little about himself and his planet. Only little by little, from random, casually dropped words, the pilot learns that the baby has arrived from a distant planet, “which is all the size of a house” and is called “asteroid B-612”. The little prince tells the pilot about how he is at war with the baobabs, which take root so deep and strong that they can tear apart his little planet. The first sprouts must be weeded out, otherwise it will be too late, "this is a very boring job." But he has a "firm rule": "... got up in the morning, washed, put himself in order - and immediately put your planet in order." People must take care of the cleanliness and beauty of their planet, jointly protect and decorate it, and prevent all living things from perishing. The little prince from Saint-Exupery's fairy tale cannot imagine his life without love for gentle sunsets, without the sun. “I once saw the sunset forty-three times in one day!” he says to the pilot. And after a while he adds: "You know ... when it becomes very sad, it's good to see how the sun goes down ...". The child feels part of the natural world. The boy is active and hardworking. Every morning he watered the Rose, talked to her, cleaned the three volcanoes on his planet to give more heat, pulled out the weeds ... And yet he felt very lonely. In search of friends, in the hope of finding true love, he sets off on his journey through other worlds. He is looking for people in the endless desert surrounding him, because in communication with them he hopes to understand himself and the world around him, to gain experience, which he lacked so much. Visiting six planets in succession, the Little Prince on each of them encounters a certain life phenomenon embodied in the inhabitants of these planets: power, vanity, drunkenness, pseudo-scholarship...
The images of the heroes of the fairy tale by A. Saint-Exupery "The Little Prince" have their own prototypes. The image of the Little Prince is autobiographical.
Another hero of the tale is Rose. Rose was capricious and touchy, and the baby was completely exhausted with her. But “on the other hand, she was so beautiful that it was breathtaking!”, And he forgave the flower for its whims. However, the empty words of the beauty, the Little Prince took to heart and began to feel very unhappy. The little prince did not immediately see the true inner essence of beauty. But after talking with the Fox, the truth was revealed to him - beauty only becomes beautiful when it is filled with meaning, content. “You are beautiful, but empty,” continued the Little Prince. -
You don't want to die for you. Of course, a random passerby, looking at my rose, will say that it is exactly the same as you. But for me she is dearer than all of you ... ". Telling this story about a rose, the little hero admits that he did not understand anything at that time. “It was necessary to judge not by words, but by deeds. She gave me her fragrance, lit up my life. I shouldn't have run. Behind these miserable tricks and tricks one should have guessed tenderness. The flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young and still did not know how to love!” The prototype of the capricious and touching Rose was the wife of a French writer.
Another hero of the fairy tale "The Little Prince" is the Fox. Since ancient times, in fairy tales, Fox has been a symbol of wisdom and knowledge of life. The conversations of the Little Prince with this wise animal become a kind of culmination in the work, because in them the hero finally finds what he was looking for. The lost clarity and purity of consciousness return to him. The fox opens the life of the human heart to the baby, teaches the rituals of love and friendship, which people have long forgotten about and therefore lost their friends and lost the ability to love. People have forgotten how to look at the stars at night, admire the beauty of sunsets, and enjoy the fragrance of a rose. They submitted to the vanity of earthly life, forgetting about “simple truths”: the joy of communication, friendship, love and human happiness: “If you love a flower - the only one that is not found on any of the many millionth stars, it’s enough: you look at the sky and feel happy." And the author is very bitter to say that people do not see this and turn their lives into a meaningless existence. The fox says that the prince for him is only one of a thousand other little boys, just as he is for the prince only an ordinary fox, of which there are hundreds of thousands. “But if you tame me, we will need each other. You will be the only one in the world for me. And I'll be the only one for you in the whole world... if you make me
tame, my life will light up like the sun. I will distinguish your steps among thousands of others...”. The fox reveals to the Little Prince the secret of taming: to tame means to create bonds of love, unity of souls.
This is how the heroes of the fairy tale by A. Saint-Exupery "The Little Prince" seem to me.

Speaking of such a deep and truly difficult work as The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, you need to know about the very personality of its author. It would be the same difficult person with a completely unique outlook on life.

Surprisingly, having no children himself, Antoine de Saint-Exupery managed to keep a child in himself, and not at all as deeply as many adults. Therefore, he saw the world through the eyes of a growing person, he understood and accepted the children's worldview. This is the success of his work "The Little Prince".

So we came close to this amazing, lively and such a magical creation of the French writer, who was a military pilot by his main occupation.

Reading The Little Prince, it is hard to believe that it was written by a person of such a harsh profession: it is such a deep, tender and extraordinary work. But his characters are especially interesting and unusual. They will be discussed.

Human Heroes: One Layer of Narrative

The Little Prince is a fairy tale, and it becomes so partly because the main characters it's not just people. Here the reader will meet a wise tamed fox, and an insidious snake, and even a capricious rose. But still there are more human characters.

The first and, of course, the main one is, of course, the Little Prince himself. And here the first riddle awaits us: since this is the son of the rulers, it means that in the fairy tale there must be both a king and a queen. After all, without them, there can be no prince. However, nowhere in the story is there any mention of the Little Prince's parents.

We see his portrait: indeed, there is a crown and a cloak, but then what does he rule? Or what his dad and mom rule? This question is not, and is not expected to be answered. We perceive the world through the prism of the worldview of a small child, and at this age, the status of parents is not important for anyone. All children take each other for granted. And even the Little Prince for them is just a child, and no one is interested in his origin. That is a statement of fact.

However, this kid is already responsible and wiser even more than any adult. He takes care of his planet, every day, without forgetting about it for a moment, he takes care of a capricious rose, saving her from all possible adversities. He loves his friends and is sincerely attached to them. But, like any child, the Little Prince is curious and imprudent. Having quarreled with a rose and getting bored, he, without thinking twice, leaves his native planet and goes on a long journey - to see how others live? It's so childish! Well, who wouldn't want to run away from home at least once?

adult child
True, this child is an adult at the same time. He has no parents, and he builds his own life. There is nowhere to wait for help, and it is not expected. Therefore, the Little Prince is intelligent beyond his years, although he allows himself simple childish pranks.

So, breaking away from his native tiny planet, this child goes on a journey to other worlds. Until he ends up on our mortal Earth, he will meet other planets on his way, and there will be no less amazing characters on them. Each of them is the personification of any passions. Everyone is busy with one thing, and cannot tear themselves away from their work, although, in fact, no one needs it. This already represents the structure of our adult world: many people do what no one needs, spending their lives on nothing.

So is the king who single-handedly rules on a planet where there are no other people. All his passion is power, completely empty and unnecessary. So is the lamplighter, who every day turns on and off the only lamp on the planet where there are no other people. On the one hand, it's kind of a responsibility, but on the other hand, it's a waste of one's own life. So is the drunkard who drinks all day long, and the accountant who does not see beyond his numbers.

Disappointed in the neighbors, the little Prince flies on and finally ends up on our planet, where he meets with the narrator. And surprisingly, for some reason these two people, big and small, find a common language and understand each other. Maybe this is happening, because the image of the Little Prince is the author’s longing for a bygone childhood, this is the same Small child, who lives not very deep in the soul of Anutan de Saint-Exupery.

However, the image is not autobiographical. There are echoes of little Tonio in it, but the mere fact that the author tells on his own behalf does not allow identifying the little prince with himself. This different people. And a child is just a projection, a kind of collective image, echoes of childhood memories, but not Antoine de Saint-Exupery himself.

There are other characters in the book, but they are not people. However, they play a very important role in revealing both the whole meaning of the work and its details.

Animal Heroes: Very Significant Characters for the Story

The Little Prince is a child, and first of all he remains one. Therefore, for him, as for any baby, animals are of great importance. Everyone knows how little children love their kittens and puppies, and the main character of this amazing fairy tale needs a four-legged friend. And he manages to tame the Fox.

The fox is a very important character, it helps to reveal the very essence of the philosophy of the whole fairy tale, helps to look into the very depths of the story. And directs the story.

So, gradually the Fox is tamed, and, in the end, becomes dependent on the boy. And it is to him that the immortal words belong: 2 we are responsible for those whom we have tamed.” This is the first lesson of love, devotion, trust. And the Little Prince gratefully accepts it and assimilates it with all his being. And it is then that the longing for the rose appears: after all, she is there alone, among the baobabs that tear the planet apart, frightened and so defenseless. And tamed. And he, the little Prince, is responsible for those whom he has tamed. So it's time to go home.

And this is where the snake comes in. This image is easy to read and recognizable from the biblical canons. The tempting serpent that was there continues to perform the same function in virtually all literary works. And then, as soon as the boy has a desire to return home, this same tempter appears, offering his help. In the Bible it was an apple, but in the work of a French writer it was a bite.

The snake says that it can send the child home, that it has a magical remedy and, of course, it is poison. In the biblical story, after communicating with a snake, people ended up on Earth, but in Exupery's fairy tale, everything happens the other way around - the boy disappears. Where, there is not a word about this in the work, but the snake promises to return him to his home planet. And since there is no body, the reader can only hope that this is how it happens. Or is the Little Prince still going to where Adam came from - to heaven?

A tamed fox and an insidious snake are important, plot-forming heroes of this work. Their importance in the development of the story cannot be overestimated.

Capricious rose: beauty that has thorns

If the Fox is the personification of devotion and trust, the Snake is deceit and temptation, then the Rose is love and inconsistency. The prototype of this hero was the wife of the author Consuelo, a very wayward, quick-tempered and, naturally, capricious person. However loving. And after all, the Little Prince says so about her that his Rose is capricious, sometimes unbearable, but all this is protection, just like thorns. In fact, she has a very soft and kind heart.

Longing for the flower, the boy agrees to the snake's offer. For the sake of love, people are capable of many things. And even die, in order to later be reborn somewhere beyond the stars, somewhere on a completely different planet, tiny, but in an embrace with beautiful rose.

Snakes have always had a special gift to transport people to a completely different world overnight. And, who knows, maybe everything was like that, as that snake promised the Little Prince, and he really ended up on his planet with his flower.

The story does not provide an answer. But since this is a fairy tale, we can all hope for a happy ending!

THE LITTLE PRINCE The Little Prince is the main character of the fairy tale, who came from his small planet to Earth. Before that, he made a long journey through the most diverse planets that were inhabited by "strange adults." The Little Prince has his own world, so a collision with the world of adults gives him a lot of questions and bewilderment. The crashed pilot is busy troubleshooting the aircraft. At dawn, the dozing pilot hears the thin voice of a child: “Please ... draw me a lamb!” So the narrator introduces the reader to the Little Prince, so miraculously emerging from the sands of the Sahara. The journey of the Little Prince, which he undertook, having quarreled with his rose, meetings with the king, an ambitious man, a drunkard, a businessman, a geographer - the only inhabitants of small planets - allowed the author to conclude: “Yes, strange people - these adults! Trifles seem important to them, but they do not see the main thing. Instead of decorating their home, cultivating their garden, their planet, they wage wars, tyrannize other people, and dry their brains with stupid numbers, and amuse themselves with miserable tinsel, and offend with their vanity and greed the beauty of sunsets and sunrises, fields and sands. No, this is not how you should live! The little prince did not meet anyone on the planets who could be his friend. Only the image of a lamplighter compares favorably with other images in that he is faithful to his duty. And this loyalty, though meaningless, but reliable. The little prince meets the Fox on Earth and, at his request, gradually tames him. They become friends but break up. The words of the Fox sound like a wise commandment: “... you are forever responsible for everyone you tamed. You are responsible for your rose." The most expensive in this life for the Little Prince are the Fox and the rose he left, because they are the only ones in the world. The appearance of the Little Prince in the desert, his appearance to the pilot who had an accident, is a symbolic reminder to an adult of his “inner homeland”, and his “death”, disappearance and grief caused by this, is the tragedy of an adult, in whose soul a child dies. It is the child who embodies all the kindest, purest, most beautiful. Therefore, the writer bitterly says that adults, parting with childhood, often forget about eternal, imperishable values; they are preoccupied with things that are important, in their opinion, and lead a boring, dull existence. And people should live differently, they need pure water deep wells, you need bells of stars in the night sky. And because Saint-Exupery is not sure whether he will be able to inspire people with his own - their own! - the truth, the tale is so sad, so sad.

In Saint-Exupery's fairy tale "The Little Prince", the hero is a golden-haired boy who studies the world of people, looking for meaning in their activities, actions and outlook on life. The story of the author-pilot is not at all children's work: truth-thoughts put into the mouth little hero only an adult can understand correctly. This does not detract from the value of fairy tales for young readers; at every age, Exupery's books are perceived differently. In the work “The Little Prince”, the main character symbolizes childish purity and spontaneity, naivety, kindness and sincerity.

Characteristics of the heroes “The Little Prince”

Main characters

A little prince

A small golden-haired boy, the owner of a small planet that has 1 rose and three volcanoes. In an adult way, a smart, thinking kid. He is alone. Travels the planets and marvels at the "strangeness" of adults. To return to his planet, he asks the snake to bite him, this is a forced step. A symbol of fidelity, wisdom, purity, eternal childhood.

Author

A pilot forced to land in the desert to fix a plane malfunction. He meets the little prince and becomes attached to him. Together they find water, escape from thirst.

fox

An animal that wants to be tamed. He made friends with the boy, taught him how to tame him and revealed the main secret.

Rose

Proud, touchy, capricious. Her seed brought the little prince to the planet by accident, she “beautified” for a long time before opening up. The rose has a difficult character, she loves herself and is waiting for care and compliments. He asks for help to protect himself from the wind, he is afraid of insects and animals (which are not on the planet). A lot of flirting and mannerisms. When he realizes that the little prince is leaving the planet, he confesses his love to him, wishes happiness, does not blame him for anything. She asks to leave, not wanting him to see her cry.

Minor characters

Mr with a purple face

Lives on a separate small planet. All his life he adds up the numbers, repeating that he is a serious person. He did not love anyone, did not rejoice at flowers, did not notice the stars.

King

He lives alone on a small planet, his mantle covers it completely. Proud but kind. He has no subjects, only an old rat. The king thinks logically, but believes that all heavenly bodies obey him. He invites the little prince to stay with him, become a minister and judge himself (after all, this is the most difficult thing).

The monarch proposes to judge the rat, to sentence to death penalty and then have mercy. After all, there is only one rat, you need to protect it.

ambitious

Lives alone on a small planet, meets the prince with joy, he is glad that someone will worship him. Explains what ambition is, asks to applaud many times in a row.

Drunkard

His planet was visited by a small guest after an ambitious man. There was nothing on it but empty and full bottles. The drunkard said that he drinks, because he is ashamed of what he drinks ... The boy left this planet faster than anyone else.

business man

Counts the stars all the time, very busy. Lives on the planet for 54 years, he has no time to get sick, and no time to rest. During all these years, he was distracted from work 2 times: a May bug that accidentally flew to him, and an attack of rheumatism. The importance of the work of a serious person lies in the fact that he counts the stars, writes down their number and owns them, locking them in a safe with a key. The little prince sees in him a resemblance to a drunkard.

Lamplighter

Lights and extinguishes the lantern every minute according to the agreement.

Geographer

An old geographer who knows nothing about his planet because he does not travel on it. Records the data of the Little Prince's planet and advises him to visit Earth.

Snake

The first person the boy met on Earth. She does not bite him, but offers to turn to her when he is tired of everything. The baby turns to her “services” to return to his planet.

For reader's diary It will be useful to get acquainted with the description of the main and secondary characters of the fairy tale. This list includes heroes living on all the planets that the Little Prince visited, as well as those whom he met and tamed on Earth.

Artwork test

The Little Prince is childhood, but at the same time a profound work. Antoine de Saint-Exupery placed in a light and small fairy tale a reflection of the real adult world with its advantages and disadvantages. In places it is satire, myth, fantasy and a tragic story. Therefore, a multifaceted book is liked by both small and large readers.

"The Little Prince" was born during the Great patriotic war. It all started with the drawings of Exupery, in which he portrayed the same “little prince”.

Exupery, being a military pilot, once got into a plane crash, it happened in 1935 in the Libyan desert. Opening old wounds, memories of the catastrophe and news of the outbreak of the world war inspired the writer to create the work. He thought about the fact that each of us is responsible for the place where he lives, whether it is a small apartment or a whole planet. And the struggle casts doubt on this responsibility, because it was during that fierce battle of many countries that the deadly nuclear weapon. Alas, many people did not give a damn about their home, since they allowed wars to bring humanity to such extreme measures.

The work was created in 1942 in the USA, a year later it became available to the reader. The Little Prince became the final creation of the author and brought him worldwide fame. The author dedicated his book to a friend (Leon Werth), moreover, to the boy that his friend once was. It is worth noting that Leon, who was a writer and critic, being a Jew, suffered from persecution during the development of Nazism. He also had to leave his planet, but not of his own free will.

Genre, direction

Exupery talked about the meaning of life, and in this he was helped by the parable genre, which is characterized by a pronounced morality in the finale, an instructive tone of the story. A fairy tale as a parable is the most common intersection of genres. hallmark fairy tales can be called that it has a fantastic and simple plot, but at the same time it is instructive, it helps young readers to form moral qualities, and adults to think about their views and behavior. Fairy tale - reflection real life, but reality is presented to the reader through fiction, no matter how paradoxical it may sound. Genre originality The work suggests that The Little Prince is a philosophical fairy tale-parable.

The work can also be attributed to a fantastic story.

The meaning of the name

The Little Prince is a story about a traveler who travels throughout the universe. He does not just travel, but is in search of the meaning of life, the essence of love and the secret of friendship. He learns not only the world around him, but also himself, and self-knowledge is his main goal. It is still growing, developing and symbolizes an immaculate and tender childhood. Therefore, the author called him "small".

Why a prince? He is alone on his planet, it all belongs to him. He is very responsible in his role as a master and, despite his modest age, has already learned how to care for her. Such behavior suggests that we have a noble boy in front of us, managing his property, but what should he be called? Prince, because he is endowed with power and wisdom.

essence

The plot originates in the Sahara desert. The pilot of the plane, having made an emergency landing, meets the same Little Prince who arrived on Earth from another planet. The boy told his new acquaintance about his journey, about the planets he had visited, about his former life, about the rose that was his faithful friend. The little prince loved his rose so much that he was ready to give his life for it. The boy was dear to his house, he liked to watch the sunsets, it’s good that on his planet they could be seen several times a day, and for this the Little Prince only needed to move a chair.

One day, the boy felt unhappy and decided to go in search of adventure. Rosa was proud and rarely bestowed her warmth on her patron, so she did not hold him back. During his journey, the Little Prince met: The Ruler, who is confident in his absolute power over the stars, the Ambitious, for whom the main thing is to be admired, the Drunkard, who drinks out of guilt for alcohol abuse, no matter how paradoxical it may sound. The boy even met the Business Man, whose main occupation is counting the stars. The little prince encountered the Lantern, who was lighting and extinguishing the lantern on his planet every minute. He also met the Geographer, who in his entire life had never seen anything but his planet. The last location of the traveler was the planet Earth, where he found a true friend. All major events are described by us in summary books for the reader's diary.

Main characters and their characteristics

  1. A little prince- the image is partially autobiographical, although it is very difficult to imagine that an adult pilot was once a little dreamer. Main charactera little boy, but at the same time, he very often turns out to be smarter than adults who "love numbers very much." Exupery endowed his hero with seemingly incompatible qualities: spontaneity and reliability. He is kind and loves his Rose very much, which remained on his planet. At the same time, he is still growing and does not know many things. For example, he learned friendship only on planet Earth, and he realized his love only after separation.
  2. Rose. The prototype of Rosa is the author's wife, Consuelo, a hot-tempered Latin American. The rose was a special flower, the little prince would have recognized it among thousands of other roses, all other flowers were “empty” for him. The rose was fragile and vulnerable, so the boy covered it with a glass cap. But the character of this lady was explosive and capricious: she imperiously addressed the interlocutor and often insisted on something of her own.
  3. To love is not to look at each other, it means to look in the same direction.

A person must protect his home, and not tear it apart with wars into bloody, lifeless parts. This idea was especially relevant then, during the days of the Second World War. The little prince cleaned up his planet every day to keep the baobabs from rampant. If the world had been able to unite in time and wipe out the National Socialist movement led by Hitler, then the bloodshed could have been prevented. For those who love the world should have taken care of it, and not locked themselves in their little planets, thinking that the storm would pass by. Because of this disunity and irresponsibility of governments and peoples, millions of people have suffered, and the writer calls, finally, to learn to faithfully and responsibly love the harmony that only friendship provides.

    What does it teach?

The story of the Little Prince is surprisingly heartfelt and instructive. Exupery's creation tells about how important it is to have a true friend nearby and how important it is to be responsible for those whom you "tamed". The fairy tale teaches to love, be friends, warns against loneliness. In addition, you should not lock yourself in your small territory, fencing off the whole world around. You need to get out of your comfort zone, learn new things, look for yourself.

Exupery also urges the reader to listen not only to his mind in making decisions, but also to his heart, because you cannot see the main thing with your eyes.
