Forming vocabulary

Learning any language begins with memorizing letters, and then the simplest words. But it's boring enough to memorize words and phrases from a piece of paper, and it gets boring quickly. Try to make this process more fun - buy a pack of colorful stickers and paste over all the objects in the apartment with them. On each piece of paper, write the name of the mirror, chest of drawers or microwave oven in English. Now, moving around the house, each time you will come across unfamiliar words and quickly memorize them.

Immersion in the language environment

A banal, but nevertheless effective way is to study English by completely immersing yourself in the language environment. This should be done after you have mastered the minimum set of words and have an idea of how sentences are constructed. Having mastered this knowledge, go to an English-speaking country, where you will quickly polish your skills.

This way of learning a language can be intimidating at first. Do not get lost - go to cafes and shops, try to communicate with passers-by on the streets, and soon you will notice that you understand those around you better and better.

We create the language environment ourselves

Not everyone has the opportunity to go to England or the USA for a few weeks. If you want to quickly and easily learn English while staying in your hometown - create the right environment yourself. Take away all the Russian-language press, replacing it with English newspapers and magazines. Delete films and TV shows in Russian, leaving only tapes in their original sound. Change the language in the settings of your phone, tablet and desktop computer to English. The same should be done with the settings on social networks and blogs. You now have tons of opportunities to learn the language you are interested in.

If you have difficulty reading books and watching films in the original, review and re-read the things that you are already familiar with in the Russian version. It will be much easier for you to navigate and memorize new words.

You can learn English in a short time only if you completely and completely immerse yourself in this process, surrender to a dream, clearly form in your imagination the result of the process, and not just it with all the imaginary unpleasant consequences and difficulties.
Spend 8-12 hours studying each day. Find free moments during your breaks, commuting or shopping. Be constantly interested in what you are doing, be energetic and attentive to your work.
The process of erecting something in the shortest possible time should be accompanied by unusual emotions. English for you should turn into an obsession, an unbridled passion. Only 20% of success in this matter depends on the chosen teaching methodology, while as much as 80% of the positive result depends on the strength of mind.

Today, very often you can meet people who studied English at school, then continued to master it at the university, but never learn to speak this language. Meanwhile, there are people who can speak a foreign language just a few months after they began to study it, and these are not polyglots at all. It is difficult for us, due to the fact that we have been studying a foreign language for many years, to believe this, but in America such practices are most popular. But how to learn English in a short time and speak it fluently?

Motivation

The right motivation is the key to success. However, how do you motivate yourself? Only you can give the answer to this question, since no one knows you better than yourself.
First of all, you need to decide what you need English for: class = "strong"> career growth, a trip abroad, for communication, etc. There can be many options, but it is important to note that English is currently the most in demand in any industry. Knowing him, you have a better chance of getting a prestigious high-paying position or, for example, finding your bearings in other countries without the help of translators.
It is very important in the process of learning English to constantly feed the initially established motivation so that it simply does not lose its relevance to you.

Reading and listening

Having decided to learn English in a short time, you do not need to waste your time on irresistible grammar, memorize new words, try to speak immediately in a foreign language. The fastest way to understand a foreign speech lies in accessible and simple things: reading texts in the original and listening. There are a lot of sources for obtaining such materials today - the Internet, books, audio recordings. American experts recommend starting with short stories, preferably with an easy storyline. By reading such texts, an addiction to English speech is formed, and it is much easier to remember the next portion of small words.

How to learn English in a short time?

Hurry, take your time. There is no need to demand from yourself transcendental results or even more miracles, however, you should not relax. Study regularly, constantly pay attention to your English speech, devote a lot of time to reading books in the original, speak and write as much as possible. Only with constant training can you achieve the desired effect. Yes, at the initial stage everything will be very difficult, but after some time the process of mastering the language will become much easier, since you, at a subconscious level, will begin to think and perceive information in English.

"How long does it take to learn English?" - absolutely all students ask our teachers this question. Your curiosity is quite understandable, if only because the student needs to estimate how long his training will last, how much money he will spend on classes. Let's try together to find out the answer to your question.

Time is money, but without knowledge you cannot make money. We admit that we (as, probably, you) also appealed to the all-knowing Google, asking how many years or months it takes to learn English. We do not know how our students are with search skills, but we were not very lucky: the answers are vague, the points of view of philologists are diametrically opposite. And most of all annoying obtrusive ads like "Learn English in 16 hours / 10 days / 99 minutes." We are adults of sound mind and memory. Do you still believe these ads? Then we go to you to dot the i's.

Is it realistic to learn English in a month / week / 24 hours

Some authors of “sprint” teaching methods have the audacity to claim that you will fully master a foreign language in 9.99 hours if you pay 99.99 dollars / euro for the “new / unique / phenomenal / Hollywood” method. Do you believe you can learn about 1,000,000 words in that time? Or learn all the intricacies of using tenses, passive and active voice?

In order not to be unfounded, we conducted a survey among the teachers of our school and found out their opinion about such methods. It was interesting to know the opinion of experienced philologists. The statistics are disappointing: 50% of teachers burst into angry tirades on the topic "quackery and ignorance in teaching students foreign languages", the other 50% asked not to ask any more "strange" questions. Of course, you say, learning English is their bread and butter. On the one hand, you are right, but on the other, let's think logically. How long did it take you to study mathematics, history, biology? English also has its own formulas, rules and terminology!

We want to say right away that the phrase “learn the language” must be forgotten forever. Even the Russian language we will never be able to learn to the end. Do you know what a punt is? This is the bottom of the wine bottle. And what about glabel? Online school "Inglex" does not teach you obscene expressions, this word is called the part of the face between the eyebrows. And there are not dozens or even hundreds of such unknown words to us. With English, the situation is similar: words appear, are borrowed from other languages, slang expressions are added, etc. But we don’t bang our heads against the wall when we meet an unfamiliar Russian word. On the contrary, we rejoice at the knowledge we have received. How interesting it is to learn new words, and then surprise your acquaintances with your education! Do not be afraid to study even in old age and do not torment yourself with the question "How long can you learn English, and why did I not do it as a child?"

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young

The one who stops learning is an old man, it doesn't matter at twenty or eighty years old. And whoever continues to study remains young.

These techniques will be able to give a certain vocabulary and some understanding of what kind of animal this foreign language is. Although some beginners who fail to learn English in 24 hours get frustrated and label themselves in the category of hopeless and incapable of languages. The shortest path is not always right, take the right path.

In addition, the knowledge gained in an accelerated mode is not deposited in long-term memory: what comes quickly, quickly goes away. No matter how boring school lessons may seem to you, the method of slow assimilation of information has its advantages. Find out what lies behind the "super-accelerated scout training methods" from our article "".

There are other varieties of "very powerful" accelerated learning methods. For example, the advertised effect of the 25th frame and other techniques that act on the subconscious. Such teaching methods are very interesting and seductive, but not only have they failed to justify themselves, but can also be dangerous. In the best case, you will simply be shown flashing word cards that will supposedly be remembered "by themselves, without any effort on your part." Big, big secret: everything we watch on TV is also shown at 25 frames per second (the standard for the PAL system in Europe). Only we do not notice this due to the smooth transition of images. And what will happen if unfamiliar words flash in front of your eyes, 25 words per second? According to reviews (you can find them yourself on the Internet), such a speed of information transfer quickly causes irritation and headaches. The most responsible manufacturers of these courses write on the boxes with discs that the technique is intended for people with a stable psyche. Children under 12-14 years old are CATEGORALLY forbidden to use it. Frankly speaking, it is difficult to find an adult with a sufficiently stable psyche. Imagine, you will be engaged after work, where the clients get you, then the bosses "bite", then the harmful system administrator blocks access to Odnoklassniki. What kind of 25th frame is there ?!

We hope we have made you wonder whether it is worth risking your money, time and health.

Limit your speed wisely. The quieter you go, the further you'll get. You can, of course, sign up for accelerated courses, the so-called intensive courses. Just keep in mind that you will have to immerse yourself in learning, work hard. Result? The result will be, but rather specific. In 10-20 lessons (the average duration of accelerated English courses), you can fill a small knowledge gap, master specific vocabulary (for example, from the field of medicine), prepare for an interview or business negotiations. We wrote in detail about intensive courses in the article "". Weigh the pros and cons carefully before signing up for them.

How long does it take to learn English?

The answer to this question primarily depends on the level at which you want to master English. We advise you to reach at least an intermediate level of knowledge. Why? Read about it in our article "". However, there is no limit to perfection, so we will describe in detail how long it will take to learn a language from an average person.

It takes 6 months to learn any language 80%, 10 years to learn 100%

This is just a witty statement, but it is not that far from the truth. Let's clarify the timing.

To begin with, let us give a widespread opinion that since a person in childhood mastered his native language in 3-4 years, then learning a foreign language will take even less time. But scientists take a different point of view. They insist that the child has an innate heightened ability to comprehend language. Upon reaching the age of 3, this ability decreases several times.

The example of a child is interesting, but from a different angle. There are children who express their thoughts perfectly already at 4-5 years old. And there are adults who, at the age of 30, cannot connect two words, and even half the alphabet cannot be pronounced! What are we talking about such a person? Firstly, his parents did not study with him. Secondly, he himself does not make efforts to change anything, that is, he does not strive to develop and improve his speaking skills, even with regard to his native language. As you can imagine, what we want to say is that choosing a good teacher and dedication are important ingredients for successful learning.

Based on our practice, for confident communication abroad, you must learn English for at least 2 years, if you master the language "from scratch". You need to spend 6-9 months for each stage of training, in detail. But this applies specifically to classes with a personal teacher, when the teacher is with you tete-a-tete. If you are taking courses, the term is slightly increased, because the teacher focuses on the weakest students in the group. About 80% of students learn the language with the speed indicated by us, 10% learn English more slowly, another 10% - faster.

A little positive: there are no people who are incapable of languages!

Yes, if you have not succeeded in mastering English according to the accelerated method, do not rush to put yourself on the list of hopeless students. You just have not yet found your approach and “your” teacher who will be able to present knowledge in an accessible way and help you to believe in yourself.

Please note that the term of study depends not only on the teacher or your classmates, but also on you. Independent work outside the classroom will help you to master the material faster and easier, to work it out in practice. With a variety of apps, video and audio lessons, you can increase your vocabulary, improve your listening comprehension and learn interesting facts about native speakers.

There is a concept of a magic thousand in teaching foreign languages. It is believed that exactly 1000 hours are needed to learn a new language. So count how many hours a month you study, find out how many years you need to learn English. When calculating, take into account the hours of independent work and deduct your absenteeism. This technique is applicable to any language. Only in calculating the period of study of Russian, Chinese, Arabic, add another 200-300 hours.

After completing 1000 hours of training, you will be able to speak fluently on general topics, watch films and read books in the original language. It will take additional time to master specific vocabulary and write scientific papers.

Choose your pace of movement and walk towards your intended goal. In addition to all of the above, we want to note that knowledge of 2500-3000 words and three simple tenses will allow you to understand 60-70% of English speech. This is just great! How long will it take to master such a volume of vocabulary? According to linguists, the optimal number of words that you can learn in a week is 70-100 words. That is, the well-known method of studying 10 words a day is fully justified.

All these features make it interesting, but at the same time difficult for beginners to learn it, and not only for them! In this article, we bring to your attention some helpful tips for EFL students. Below we will talk about how to speed up the process of learning this difficult language.

We hope that the list of tips below will make the learning process a little easier for you.

In addition to the basic study guide, you will need a good translation dictionary, and it would also be ideal to purchase an English grammar manual. You will also need a laptop, notebook, or notepad. Get the kind of stationery that you like, it will make language learning more fun!

  1. Buy audioCD orDVD disks

Audio CDs and DVDs are actually very useful tools for practicing pronunciation, they give you irreplaceable practice that you won't get by learning a language without them. They also give you the opportunity to practice pronunciation of words yourself.

  1. Find someone to chat on Skype in English

Try to find a native English speaker who will be willing to spend a little time talking to you on Skype. This will give you valuable experience in conversational English and will also serve as a great motivation to study further.

Learning English in a formal setting

Learning English on your own is a great way to master it. But in order to make real progress and maintain a high level of motivation, it is definitely recommended to attend specialized courses for foreign language learners. It will give you a structured program to stick to and keep you up to date with your learning, as well as providing you with additional motivation through your interactions with other people. Make sure that the course you choose is officially recognized, for example British Council and English UK .

  1. Attend Summer Courses

For a deeper immersion in the language environment, there is nothing better than attending a summer school. By being immersed in the learning environment with other learners who want to learn the language the same way you do, you will make progress quickly.

  1. Attend evening courses

If a summer school course is not a suitable option for you, or you just want extra lessons on a weekly basis, evening courses are an excellent option for you. They will serve as a great addition to your main (day) study, as well as give you the opportunity to gain experience with other students and prevent you from deviating from a structured language learning plan.

  1. Try distance learning or online learning

There are many distance learning courses and online study programs designed to help you learn English. They are usually cheaper, but there is a risk of remaining as detached from the main program as in self-study. If you want to use this option of language learning, you should find an English-speaking interlocutor for communication on Skype in order to practice conversational English.

  1. Take advantage of the services of a personal English tutor

Another option is to hire a private tutor, you can use this service by studying with the teacher in person or via Skype. This gives you the advantage of one-to-one training, but the disadvantage of this training is that, again, the bulk of the work will be left to you.

Learning vocabulary vocabulary

One of the most difficult tasks in learning a new language is learning its vocabulary. There are tons of new words in the English language that need to be learned. It is extremely important to work on this systematically, otherwise you will not be able to cope with this aspect.

Decide where you will store a list of all the translated words that you have learned. Every time you hear a new word, add it to your list, use it as you read it, and also try to memorize those words.

  1. Try to to examine all variations the words

When you come across a new word, look up it in the dictionary and try to familiarize yourself with all its variations. That way, you can get four or five new words for the price of one! For example, the word tidy has the following variations untidy”, “ tidily”, “ tidier”, tidiest and tidy up”.

  1. Hover order

Buy a binder folder and use separators to group your notes sequentially, such as one part for grammar, one for vocabulary, one for marking, etc. Keeping your notes organized will make it much easier to figure out what's in your head!

  1. Check each other

Meet with friends and test each other on the knowledge of words in the dictionaries you have compiled. To make this process more fun, turn it into a competition for who gets the most words correctly. Competitive activities motivate you to get better.

To get the most out of your training, it is very important to have a smart approach to your daily activities. Here are some tips to help you learn more effectively.

  1. Take time to study at home every day.

Be authoritarian in your approach to learning English, and devote a certain amount of time to your homework each day. Stay away from all distractions like TV, phone, computer, and devote your time only to your language.

  1. Find myself partner

As stated earlier, it is very helpful to have an English learner friend to practice your vocabulary. But the benefits of learning a language with a companion go far beyond just checking the words you've learned. So, for example, you can practice spoken English together, arrange exams for each other, thus, motivate each other.

  1. Not be afraid read aloud

You will feel silly at first, but your pronunciation and self-confidence will improve at a rapid pace if you read English aloud, even when you are on your own. If you are in doubt about the correct pronunciation, there are many internet sites where you can find how to pronounce a particular word.

  1. Write down his pronunciation

No one likes to listen to their voice on an audio recording, but how we ourselves perceive it and how it sounds on an audio recording are two different things. Therefore, while recording your speech, you can find errors in the pronunciation of those words that, while reading, seem to us to sound right. These recordings will also serve as a great motivation, listen to them in a month and you will be amazed at how much more your progress has become!

Let's take a break from the classroom

Some of the most important ways to learn English are extracurricular methods, that is, when we are talking about more than just homework. There are countless things that can help speed up your progress without putting in a lot of effort.

You will learn to write about yourself and what you do, and you will develop your reading skills as you read their answers.

  1. Take a part-time job

Try to get a job in a tourist destination where you will likely need English to speak to guests, such as working as a city tour guide, or working in a restaurant that is popular with tourists. 1. Look english the television and movies

Watching English TV programs is a fun way to learn new words and phrases, and is also a great help in learning how to sound English correctly (teaches you to distinguish between different dialects) You can start by using subtitles in your native language, and then without them. If you're already feeling confident, why not go to the cinema and watch an English-language movie? If it helps, watch this movie initially in your native language, and then it will be clearer to you what is meant in English.

  1. Listen english radio

Having a radio in the background is a good way to familiarize yourself with the sounds of English. The news will be a good start for you, especially if you know what will be discussed, it will be easier for you to compare the meanings of words.

  1. Make the most of your travel time

Spend some money on an English audio course designed for MP3 players and listen to it while you travel by bus, train or car. This will help you develop your pronunciation skills as well as introduce you to useful phrases.

  1. UseGoogle in English

When you're looking for something on the Internet, try using Google.co.uk instead of Google in your own language. This will make you find the results you are looking for in English, and the use of English will gradually become a habit for you.

  1. Decorate your room with flashcards

Decorate your room with flashcards containing information on what you need to learn. This will expose you to the words, phrases, and grammar that you need to memorize. You can place them wherever you are likely to see them on a daily basis: above the mirror, on the closet door, near the bed, etc.

  1. Read your favorite book in English before bed

If you are serious about learning a language and want to get it done in no time, then even the time before bed should be used to make progress. Choose one of your favorite books and purchase the English version. Every night before bed, try to read several pages, keep a dictionary by your bed for words you don't understand. Thus, you will not only have an advantage, because this is your favorite book, but also the fact that English will be the last thing you think about before going to bed, and while you sleep, your brain will work and save new words, phrases. and grammar into your long and short term memory.

Travel

We think you enjoyed our last tip! We left the best for last!

One of the best things you can do to speed up your English learning process is to visit the United States or another English speaking country like Australia or New Zealand. Take a trip for at least a couple of weeks, see all the famous landmarks and try to be in a position to speak English with the locals, or at least hear and understand them. This can happen in restaurants and bars, on English-language tours of famous landmarks, while visiting museums and reading information about exhibits in English, or while visiting a movie theater. Try to explore the main part of the country and become familiar with the different regional dialects.

We hope you have found these tips helpful and will help you make learning English more enjoyable for you. Sometimes learning a language seems like a real battle, but we are sure that if you follow our advice, you will soon be able to speak English fluently and confidently.

The English language has turned from a useful skill into an essential skill when applying for a job, continuing education, and successful self-realization in various fields. The English-language information space dictates its own rules, literature and media in English generate a huge amount of information, which you simply do not have time to wait for translation. You either read primary sources in English, or you are firmly and permanently outsider. It's up to you to choose.

If you do not speak English, it is worth learning it as soon as possible. And here the question arises: what exactly are they, these very "shortest terms". On the one hand, we understand that in a couple of weeks we are unlikely to cope with this task, on the other hand, a year of study does not seem to us such a "shortest period."

How to quickly learn English - we will try to tell you. The standard term for studying English in courses is approximately 2 years. And everything will depend on what level you start learning and at what level you are ready to stop. Linguists and people who are especially keen on language issues argue that you need to learn a language all your life. But we'll talk about mere mortals.

There are 6 levels of English proficiency: Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency. On average, you can complete one level of English in 3-4 months. Therefore, if you started learning English from scratch, then you can reach the intermediate level (Intermediate) in about six months. This is if you train in a group with an intensity of 2 times a week. If you choose a more intensive program, then it is quite possible to complete the course in 3-4 months.

English is quickly learned by those who need it “for yesterday”. If you are planning to enter a foreign university, move abroad, then an intensive program is your option. If you are not ready to attend English courses 4-5 times a week, you can try to quickly learn English at home. For this you need to surround yourself with English.
Learning English quickly requires you to take the time to study every day. You can read books in English, watch movies with or without subtitles, learn new words using apps on your smartphone. There are many ways to learn English. Let's talk about some of them.

An easy way to learn English - you go to, choose an intensive program, study from 3 days a week, do not forget about homework. This method is suitable for those who are ready to devote a certain amount of time to classes. With such a schedule, in about 2-3 months you can master the skill of fluent English communication from scratch. It will not be possible to say that you know English perfectly, but you will be able to communicate in standard situations, enter into dialogues, communicate at work.

English learning plan

The plan can be individual for each person. It is necessary to take into account the starting level of English, basic knowledge and peculiarities of the perception of information: someone remembers information from images better, someone - by ear. In addition, each person has their own goals. If you need to master, then the emphasis is better on the practice of oral communication, if written, then it is worth using writing simulators and reading books in English.

If you want to close the English question in three months (and this period can be considered realistic), you should draw up a clear plan. You are promised to learn English in a month either by courses in which you will have to speak English for at least 5 hours a day 5 days a week, or by those who do not plan to provide you with such a result in principle.

How much can you learn English:

  • in 2-3 months - reach from the Elementary level to Pre-Intermediate, with great desire and diligence to Intermediate. Studying at least 3 times a week for 1-2 hours, doing homework, reading books only in English, watching TV shows, films and podcasts in English, repeating learned words every day.
  • in 5-6 months - it is more than realistic to go from zero to Intermediate... Studying 2 times a week, doing homework, repeating words and visiting a conversation club once a week. If you find a native speaker / and will communicate with him regularly at least 1-2 times a week, perhaps complete the course earlier.
  • 9-12 months in advance - standard plan... And even while completing this plan, you must not skip classes, repeat words, do your homework, hone your grammar skills, and practice pronunciation. The question “how much can you learn English from scratch?” Can be answered exactly like this: 9-12 months or 1-2 years.
  • in 1-2 years - you can reach Intermediate. This is even too long a period, but many students are stuck at the Pre-Intermediate - Intermediate level for about such a time. If you do not do your homework or do not immerse yourself in English anywhere except for the lessons in the courses, you will increase the time of studying the language several times.

Still dreaming of learning English in a month? Let's not limit you: this is also possible. But it turns out, as a rule, only when you move abroad and there is no possibility of communication in your native language. If courses can't isolate you from communicating in Russian for a month, don't trust their promises to learn English in a month.

How to learn English in 3 months?

This term looks the most realistic and one of the most urgent. Let's try to make a plan and convince you that this is possible.

First month

This is the period of working with an English teacher or tutor. If you want to learn English in a super short time, you should skip group lessons and study individually or in pairs. Why? Simply because 90% of the time in class you will be the one to speak. You will not need to wait for the rest of the students to speak (and there can be from 4 to 10).

You should memorize about 30 words every day. And it's good to memorize. It is so good that they remain, at least, in the passive stock, and the phrasal verbs go immediately into the active one. At this intensity, after 90%, you will have a vocabulary of about 3000 words. This is enough for fluent communication in standard situations. Although an educated native speaker can have a vocabulary of 8,000 or more. There is something to strive for.

Second month

You can already communicate in English. Ideally, a native speaker or even several speakers can be involved in the communication process. Make it a rule: 3 times a week you should speak with native speakers in English for about 1-2 hours + study with a teacher + repeat the material yourself. In parallel, you need to continue to learn new words and introduce them into your speech. Also read books in English for beginners. This not only replenishes your vocabulary, but also helps you memorize standard phrases, sentence structure.

Third month

Read books in English actively. Spend at least an hour a day on this activity, write down and memorize unfamiliar words. If you are lucky enough to find a native friend who will be ready to communicate with you in English for at least 3 hours a day, consider yourself a lucky ticket. Continue to learn 30 new words every day.

Yes, English can be learned in 3 months. If you give it 4 hours daily.

We have compiled for you a selection of English courses in and... After studying for 1 to 3 months, you will feel a significant difference in the level of English proficiency.
