In those days, the people every day expected the coming of the Messiah, who would save them from Roman despotism. People listened with great trepidation to the words of the prophet, because he foretold them the fulfillment of what they desired - the coming of the Messiah. John absolved the repentant of their sins and washed them away in the waters of the Jordan. Therefore, he was called the Baptist.

One day he appeared among the people to humbly take a bath in the Jordan from the prophet. John immediately recognized the Mission in him and said that he was not worthy to untie the straps on his sandals. But Jesus replied that he should do what was foretold. At that moment, the Holy Spirit descended on the Savior in the form of a dove and the words of the Lord sounded:
