mdm file. MDM file extension. What you need to convert an MDM file to a PDF file or how you can create a PDF version of your MDM file

MDM File Summary

We have three existing software associated with MDM files (usually these are software from Scientific Software International Inc., known as SSI HLM software), and they can be categorized as three main file types. Traditionally, these files have the format HLM Multivariate Data Matrix File. These files are classified into data files or game files. Most of the files are data files.

The MDM file extension can be viewed on Windows, Mac, and iOS. They are supported primarily on desktops and some mobile platforms. The popularity rating of MDM files is "Low". This means that they are not often found on most devices.

Activity

This file type is still relevant and is actively used by developers and application software. Although the original software of this file type may be overshadowed by a newer version (eg Excel 97 vs Office 365), this file type is still actively supported by the current version of the software. This process of interacting with an old operating system or an outdated version of software is also known as " backward compatibility».

Troubleshooting opening MDM files

General issues opening MDM files

SSI HLM software not installed

By double-clicking on the MDM file, you can see a system dialog that says "Can't open this type of file". In this case, this is usually due to the fact that SSI HLM software for %%os%% is not installed on your computer. Since your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking on it.

Advice: If you know of another program that can open the MDM file, you can try opening the given file by selecting that application from the list of possible programs.

Wrong version of SSI HLM software installed

In some cases, you may have a newer (or older) version of the HLM Multivariate Data Matrix File, not supported by the installed version of the application. If the correct version of the SSI HLM software (or any of the other programs listed above) is not available, it may be necessary to download a different version of the software or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem most often occurs when working in an older version of the application software from a file created in a newer version, which the old version cannot recognize.

Advice: Sometimes you can get a general idea of the version of an MDM file by right-clicking on the file and then choosing Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac OSX).

Summary: In any case, most of the problems that occur during the opening of MDM files are due to the lack of the correct application software installed on your computer.

Other causes of problems opening MDM files

Even if you already have SSI HLM software or other MDM-related software installed on your computer, you may still encounter problems while opening HLM Multivariate Data Matrix Files. If you still have problems opening MDM files, the reason may be related to other problems preventing these files from being opened. Such problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Invalid links to MDM files in the Windows registry ("phone book" of the Windows operating system)
  • Accidental deletion of description MDM file in the Windows registry
  • Incomplete or incorrect installation application software tool associated with the MDM format
  • File corruption MDM (problems with the HLM Multivariate Data Matrix File itself)
  • MDM infection malware
  • Damaged or outdated device drivers hardware associated with an MDM file
  • Lack of sufficient system resources on the computer to open HLM Multivariate Data Matrix File format

Quiz: Which file extension is not a document type?

Right!

Close, but not quite...

ODS files are OpenDocument Spreadsheet based on XML formatting. Even though they are performance related, these are tables, not documents. :)

A vector image can be scaled indefinitely without loss of quality. Unlike raster images, which are made up of individual pixels, vector images are created using a line between dots. The points are mathematically organized and displayed and have no size limits built into the file itself.

How to fix problems opening MDM files

If your computer has antivirus program can scan all files on the computer, as well as each file individually. You can scan any file by right-clicking on the file and selecting the appropriate option to scan the file for viruses.

For example, in this figure, file my-file.mdm, then you need to right-click on this file, and in the file menu select the option "scan with AVG". Selecting this option will open AVG Antivirus and scan the file for viruses.

Sometimes an error can result from incorrect software installation, which may be due to a problem that occurred during the installation process. It may interfere with your operating system associate your MDM file with the correct application software, influencing the so-called "file extension associations".

Sometimes simple reinstalling SSI HLM software can solve your problem by properly linking MDM with SSI HLM software. In other cases, file association problems may result from bad software programming developer, and you may need to contact the developer for further assistance.

Advice: Try updating SSI HLM software to the latest version to make sure you have the latest patches and updates.

This may seem too obvious, but often the MDM file itself may be causing the problem. If you received a file via an email attachment or downloaded it from a website and the download process was interrupted (for example, by a power outage or other reason), the file may be corrupted. If possible, try to get a fresh copy of the MDM file and try to open it again.

Carefully: A corrupted file can cause collateral damage to previous or existing malware on your PC, so it's important to keep your computer up to date with an up-to-date antivirus.

If your MDM file associated with the hardware on your computer to open the file you may need update device drivers associated with this equipment.

This problem usually associated with media file types, which depend on the successful opening of the hardware inside the computer, for example, sound card or video card. For example, if you are trying to open an audio file but cannot open it, you may need to update sound card drivers.

Advice: If, when you try to open an MDM file, you receive .SYS file related error message, the problem could probably be associated with corrupted or outdated device drivers that need to be updated. This process can be facilitated by using driver update software such as DriverDoc.

If the steps didn't solve the problem and you are still having problems opening MDM files, this may be due to lack of available system resources. Some versions of MDM files may require a significant amount of resources (eg. memory/RAM, processing power) to open properly on your computer. This problem is quite common if you are using fairly old computer hardware and a much newer operating system at the same time.

This problem can occur when the computer is having a hard time completing a task because the operating system (and other services running in the background) can consume too many resources to open MDM file. Try closing all applications on your PC before opening HLM Multivariate Data Matrix File. By freeing up all available resources on your computer, you will provide the best conditions for trying to open the MDM file.

If you completed all the above steps and your MDM file still won't open, you may need to run hardware upgrade. In most cases, even when using older hardware versions, the processing power can still be more than enough for most user applications (unless you're doing a lot of CPU-intensive work like 3D rendering, financial/science modeling, or intensive multimedia work) . In this way, it is likely that your computer does not have enough memory(more commonly referred to as "RAM", or RAM) to perform the task of opening a file.

Try to upgrade your memory to see if that helps open the MDM file. Today, memory upgrades are quite affordable and very easy to install, even for the average computer user. As a bonus, you you will probably see a nice performance boost while your computer is performing other tasks.

Have a problem opening .mdm files? We collect information about file formats and can explain what MDM files are. Additionally, we recommend programs that are most suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .MDM file format for?

Primary File Extension Association .mdm refers to the HLM Multivariate Data Matrix (MDM) file type and format. HLM (Hierarchical Linear Modeling - Hierarchical Linear Modeling) is the name of a powerful proprietary data modeling and analysis tool developed by Scientific Software International (SSI). HLM is widely used in science and education for data modeling in statistics, social sciences, business, and a variety of other areas.

All work with data in HLM is based on multidimensional matrices (MDM). File .mdm is just such a matrix, containing an ordered array of multilevel data objects of various types, as well as their corresponding variable declarations. MDM matrix files are usually accompanied by MDM matrix text template files ( .mdm t).

MDM matrix files can be created directly in HLM from datasets (.sav). It is also common practice to generate files .mdm based on Stata statistics converted to MDM format using the Stata "hlm" program (applies to HLM 6.x and Stata 11).

As part of the commercial cross-platform software for modeling, research and study of the human brain BrainVoyager QX (R.Goe bel), the extension .mdm belongs to the Multi-Study Design Matrix file type, .mdm). Here is the file .mdm is a plain text list of Volumetric Dynamics (.vtc) and Single Design Matrices (.sdm) files, allowing data from multiple subjects and multiple experiments to be combined. Usually created through the "Multi-Study GLM" dialog in the BrainVoyager QX environment, MDM files can also be created and modified with any text editor.

In the context of Agilent's sophisticated set of semiconductor test and simulation tools, Agilent's IC-CAP Modeling System extension .mdm used to refer to IC-CAP Data Manager (MDM) data management files. Files .mdm are used to export in a well-documented ASCII format any type of measured or simulated data. In an IC-CAP environment, data from a file .mdm can be imported in the context of any device under test (DUT, Device Under Test).

Finally, the extension .mdm may refer to the rare proprietary Minolta DiMage Messenger (MDM) composite image format native to the legacy Minolta DiMage Messenger (Microsoft Windows) digital imaging program. In this case, the file .mdm is a bitmap with embedded comments, marks, or annotations. These composite bitmaps are currently supported by only a few graphics programs (eg Zoner Photo Studio).

Programs for opening or converting MDM files

You can open MDM files with the following programs:

This page explains how you can easily convert a .mdm file to a PDF file using the free and easy to use PDF24 Creator. The described conversion method is free and simple. PDF24 Creator installs a PDF printer and you can print your .mdm file on this printer to convert the file to PDF.

What you need to convert an MDM file to a PDF file or how you can create a PDF version of your MDM file

Files of the MDM type or files with the .mdm extension can be easily converted to PDF using a PDF printer.

The PDF Printer is a virtual printer that can be used just like any other printer. The difference from a regular printer is that a PDF printer creates PDF files. You are not printing on a physical piece of paper. The PDF printer prints the contents of the original file into a PDF file.

Thus, you can create a PDF version of any file that can be printed. Simply open the file with a reader, click the print button, select a virtual PDF printer, and click the "Print" button. If you have a reader for the MDM file, and if the reader can print the file, then you can convert the file to a PDF.

The free and easy to use PDF printer from PDF24 can be downloaded from this page. Just click on the download button to the right of this article to download the PDF24 Creator. Install this software. After installation, you will have a new printing device registered with Windows that you can use to create PDF files from your .mdm file or convert any other printable file to PDF.

Here's how it works:

  1. Install PDF24 Creator
  2. Open the .mdm file with a reader that can open the file.
  3. Print the file on the virtual PDF24 PDF printer.
  4. The PDF24 helper opens a window where you can save the new file as a PDF, email it, fax it, or edit it.

An alternative way to convert MDM file to PDF file

PDF24 provides several online tools that can be used to generate PDF files. Supported file types are added as they become available, and it is possible that the MDM file format is also already supported. The conversion service has various interfaces. Two of them are as follows:

Online PDF Converter by PDF24 supports many files that can be converted to PDF. Just select the MDM file you would like to get a PDF version of, click the "convert" button and you will get a PDF version of the file.

There is also a PDF24 E-Mail PDF Converter that can also be used to convert files to PDF. Just send an e-mail message to the E-Mail PDF Converter service, attach the MDM file to this e-mail, and in a few seconds you will receive the PDF file back.

You are here because you have a file that has a file extension that ends in .mdm. Files with the .mdm extension can only be launched by certain programs. It is possible that .mdm are data files and not documents or media, which means they are not meant to be viewed at all.

what is the .mdm  file?

These files are used by the program Hierarchical Linear and Nonlinear Simulation (HLS) and are known as HLS Multidimensional Data Matrix Files developed by Scientific Software International and categorized as Data Files. The program Hierarchical Linear and Nonlinear Modeling is a tool used for data science statistical analysis. It is a tool used in social research as well as other areas of research where this tool helps users collect the statistics required for the type of research the user is conducting. This program is what creates data files known as MDM files. These files are files containing textual data that have been collected through statistical observation, and also here are those files used to create summary level and in-depth statistics for HLM programs. With the use of statistical program output formats such as SPSS and SAS, compiling MDM files in the HLM program is possible.

how to open .mdm file?

Run the .mdm file or any other file on your computer by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that is meant to open your .mdm file will open it. You may need to download or purchase the correct application. Also, it is possible that you have the correct application on your computer, but the .mdm files are not yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open the .mdm file, you can tell Windows which application is the right one for that file. From then on, opening the .mdm file will open the correct application.

SSI HLM software

SSI HLM software

Scientific Software International (SSI) developed HLM as multilevel modeling software that defines linear and nonlinear relationships between data in a hierarchical structure. Real-world applications for this statistical tool include scoring of tests administered to different groups and calibrating exam questions to fit progressive levels of learning. The software computes and analyzes data through eight or more modules that correspond to different models of Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM). The latest version of SSI HLM is certified Compatible with Windows 7/Vista and other related products. It introduces three new models that compute outcomes based on binary, count, ordinal, and nominal variables. This edition uses Adaptive Gauss-Hermite Quadrature (AGH) and high-order Laplace approximations when estimating maximum likelihood in generalized models. HLM now writes statistical notations in its HTML editor and allows users to cut and paste flow diagrams, pie charts, tables, and images into pages.

Eiksoft Mario Dash

Eiksoft Mario Dash

Based on the classic Nintendo game Super Mario Bros, Mario Dash is a 2D platformer game written in Blitz code and distributed through the Eiksoft website. The complete source code is freely available for download to game developers and players. This application doesn't need installation and keeps game information, including high scores and saved game plays, within its folder. New versions of Mario Dash may include new music files, improved animation like rain drops and water splashes, and more sets of custom graphics . The player moves through four worlds, including Bower's Castle, leaping through other stages and dodging Mario's enemies. Pressing the Space bar makes Mario jump over deadly mushrooms while holding down the Space bar makes him run very fast. Players can edit or create new maps with more bricks and flowers, new music, and background color through the level editor.

word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension to .mdm  files or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only a special conversion program can change a file from one file type to another.

what is the file extension?

A file extension is a set of three or four characters at the end of a file name, in this case,  .mdm. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs it can open. Windows often associates a default program for each file extension, so that when you double-click a file, the program starts automatically. While the program is no longer on your computer, you may sometimes receive an error message when you try to open the corresponding file.

So, we continue to study the world of processes in our task manager) This time we will figure out what the mdm.exe process (Machine Debug Manager) is - why it is needed and how to remove it. This file is necessary for debugging programs in Visual Studio .NET, and appears after installing this studio. If you remove it, then you will not be able to run programs from under VS.NET. If you did not install any studios, then the process is of no use, but only hangs in the dispatcher.

But it can also happen without installing the studio, for example, in older versions of Windows (2000, XP, 2003), the mdm.exe process runs as a system service, and in even older Windows, the process always appeared when Internet Explorer 4.0 was launched. From Microsoft Help, this mdm.exe also provides debugging in the script editor that is included with Microsoft Office 2000.

How to remove mdm.exe? Well, due to the fact that this is a system process, you do not need to delete it at all. But to disable - you can try. Look, open the Start menu and go to the Control Panel there, then look for the Administrative Tools icon, it will already have a Services shortcut, run it. In the list of services, find Machine Debug Manager (may also be called Microsoft Debug Manager), double-click on it, a window will open, there will be a Startup Type - select Manual (then the system will start the process itself if necessary) or Disabled. Then click the Stop button to stop the running service.

Although some users write on the forums that even after disabling the service, sometimes mdm.exe appears in the manager. In general, this process, if in simple terms, is needed to analyze and identify errors in the program, it helps to determine exactly where the error occurred, so that it can be easily corrected later. Programmers without debugging, or in other words without a debugger, would find it difficult to write programs.

Try turning off script debugging, it will suddenly help, this is in the browser properties (Control Panel) on the Advanced tab:

After that, check if this process starts at system startup - hold down Win + R, write msconfig and on the Startup tab (in Windows 10 this section is in the task manager), if there are mdm / Machine Debug Manager items, then uncheck them

I should also advise you to check your computer for malware, viruses and other advertising infection, and for this I offer two utilities, namely:

  • the first is a tool, it is very seriously aimed at fighting adware viruses, the so-called browser hijackers and similar evil spirits, the utility is free and does not require installation - after starting the scan, the anti-virus databases will be loaded first and the file scan will begin, if viruses are detected, they will be deleted together with their garbage in the form of services, registry keys, temporary files (reboot required);
  • the second tool is the Eset online scanner, it is already more advanced and is aimed not only at advertising viruses, but also at ordinary trojans, worms, and so on; also does not require installation, uses heuristic analysis when scanning, a deep check of the system is possible, it can take a decent amount of time, but it's worth it; I wrote about him in the second half of the article; when scanning, the scanner places viruses in quarantine, after the scan is completed, it prompts you to select an action;

What to use is up to you, but I advise you to always have one of the utilities at hand, personally I always have AdwCleaner on the disk and the Eset online scanner in my bookmarks. Good luck)

You can read more information about what the mdm.exe process is and how to disable it.
