Everyone played the Monopoly board game as a child, where the player could try on the role of a millionaire or a banker and the opportunity to own an entire city. From year to year, this game does not lose its target audience, but only expands. There have been many changes to the board game described, which only encouraged people to return to it year after year. The collaboration of McDonald's fast food restaurants and the Monopoly game is a successful combination of the taste of food and a board game that takes us back to childhood.

rare specimens

"Monopoly at McDonald's" turned out to be a very gambling game for fast food lovers. Everyone strives to collect a complete set of a certain color and is sometimes ready for everything possible and impossible for this. Of course, some stickers are more common than others, so I would like to acquaint you with the cards in advance, which you will have to literally run after.

So, among the blue collection, you will have to spend a lot of time searching for the Arbat (M521). It is quite difficult to get "Kutuzovsky prospect" (M518) and (M519) in the green set of stickers. In the yellow selection of cards, Novinsky Bulvar (M516) became a rare specimen. In the red collection, "Pushkinskaya Street" (M513) is most often hidden from the participants. In the orange set of stickers, you will have to spend a sufficient amount of time looking for "Ryazansky Prospekt" (M511). In the purple selection, he constantly hides from the participants of "Sretenka" (M507). In the action "Monopoly at McDonald's" it is quite difficult to find in the blue collection of cards "Ogaryova Street" (M503). And finally, it's hard to find "Ulitsa Zhitnaya" (M502) in the brown set of stickers.

Gambling

During the "Monopoly at McDonald's" campaign, there is some kind of madness around everyone's favorite fast food. And so the famous chain of fast food restaurants is popular among people, and these days something special and inexplicable is happening.

The points of this fast food are filled to capacity, even worse than usual. The products presented in the action are sold out at lightning speed that the chefs do not have time to make orders. The income during the period of the promotion is huge. It is also worth emphasizing the fact that exceptionally large volumes of drinks, large portions of potatoes, as well as quite expensive burgers and rolls participate in this game.

The consumer does not focus on this, as he seeks to find the coveted sticker, and the restaurant chain itself receives a lot of money from the excitement of its own customers. Is it right and fair? Judge only for yourself.

Sticker exchange

"Monopoly at McDonald's 2017" captures many fast food lovers. People tend to visit this restaurant as much as possible and purchase products participating in the promotion in order to bring the prize as close as possible to themselves, or maybe, if luck smiles, try their luck in getting a super prize.

In addition to regular visits, which is one of the most correct ways to participate, people have come up with some trick, namely to organize the exchange of cherished rare cards.

At the beginning of the launch of this game, a similar exchange took place between friends and acquaintances. But as soon as the action began to gain popularity, the participants came up with another way to get the coveted cards. At the moment, in such a social network as "Vkontakte" there are many groups where people are engaged in the described activities. The exchange takes place in several ways: like a sticker for a sticker, some simply ask or give away free of charge.

But some participants have turned the action into a business - they sell stickers. The minimum amount of such cooperation can cost 100 rubles. Also, similar offers for sale or purchase can be found on the websites of Avito, Yula. There prices are already a little higher, namely 300 rubles.

Is it possible to win at Monopoly at McDonald's?

Let's start with the fact that this promotion can actually be considered a win-win, because in any case you get at least even the smallest win. In this game, a fairly large list of prizes is presented, starting with McDonald's products and ending with 1,000,000 rubles from Visa. Of course, the probability of winning a large gift is quite small, since there are extremely few stickers for such a prize. There can be no specific instructions here, but only everything is calculated for good luck. As a rule, most often people collect two cards of the same color, and the third is quite problematic to find. This is the little trap from the McDonald's Monopoly promotion.

If you still answer the question posed above, then you can answer this way: it’s really possible to win minimal prizes (restaurant products), but to get more valuable gifts, only luck will help you.

Are there any winners?

If we talk about the winners of Monopoly at McDonald's, then everyone wins here, because a fairly wide list of prizes is presented. As mentioned earlier, the smallest prize is the products of a fast food restaurant. But there were also such lucky ones who went beyond the minimum gifts.

There are people who have won iPads and other prizes prepared by the sponsor-shop of home appliances "Eldorado". There were even such cases when a visitor got a card with a win in the form of a car. But, unfortunately, due to a rather large tax, the prize was never able to meet its owner. We will talk about the negative aspects of this ongoing action jointly by McDonald's and Monopoly below.

PARTICIPATION

Monopoly game at McDonald's. 11,000,000 prizes won't win themselves!

To start the game, you need to buy a product participating in the promotion.

On the package you need to find a black sticker, carefully tear it off and see what is drawn on the back. There may be your INSTANT win or a COLLECTIBLE sticker.

INSTANT win. If the sticker shows a picture of a prize, then you immediately become its owner (subject to following the Full Promotion Rules). It can be, for example, a potato, a camera or even a car, a family trip or a million rubles.

COLLECTIBLE win. If a street is indicated on the sticker (for example, “Arbat street”) and there is a colored stripe, then this is a collectible sticker. To get a prize, you need to collect a complete collection of stickers of the same color with different streets.

For years, the former police officer, with the help of a mobster, a Mormon, and a swindler, led by the nose, single-handedly determining the winners of the prize draw, which was organized by the fast food chain. In 12 years, they pocketed more than $24 million. The American edition of The Daily Beast tracked down the participants in this scam and found out how they succeeded.

Andrew Glomb, who flew to Pennsylvania to visit relatives, was met at the airport by a cousin. On the way home, he warned that he would stop by McDonald's: "The children are playing this Monopoly of theirs."

In the US, McDonald's has been raffling off prizes for fast food lovers since 1987. Each purchase came with stickers with street names borrowed from the Monopoly tabletop. For certain combinations of streets, rewards were relied on - from a sandwich to a car or a cruise ticket. Those who find the rarest stickers were promised a million dollars.

Glomb had never played Monopoly, but he knew the rules very well. Moreover, he had repeatedly held the rarest Monopoly stickers in his hands and knew that his nephews were hoping for a win in vain. "You know what," he told his cousin, "Don't waste your time."

former police officer

Street name stickers were made by Dittler Brothers, a company that prints postage stamps and lottery tickets. When it comes to that kind of money, you need good security. Responsible for security was former police officer Jerry Jacobson, who was fired from the authorities while he was recovering from a serious illness. Under him, the workers were looked after even in the toilet and searched with passion at the checkpoint so that they would not take away the winning ticket.

Jacobson's zeal was noticed at Simon Marketing, which was organizing a prize draw for McDonald's. The former police officer was lured away and appointed head of security. Once every six months, he went to Dittler Brothers, sat down near the supercomputer that printed out stickers, and made sure that no one interfered with the process. Jacobson personally cut out the rarest stickers with big winnings, and then, accompanied by an auditor, delivered them to McDonald's factories.

Things were going well: he earned six times more than in the police, flew around the country first class and walked in restaurants at the expense of the company. But when millions pass through your hands, the temptation is too great. After working for a year, Jacobson couldn't resist slipping his stepbrother a $25,000 Monopoly sticker. Another sticker was received by his friend in exchange for two thousand dollars. “I just wanted to show that I can do something. Or maybe boasted. I don't know," he later explained.

In 1995, Simon Marketing management instructed him to ensure that the winnings did not go beyond the borders of the country. If the supercomputer pointed to Canada, the program had to be restarted until a city in the United States dropped out. Jacobson didn't like it at all. He decided that since the company was cheating people, then he could cheat.

During another business trip to the McDonald's factory, he hid from the auditor in the toilet and replaced the million dollar stickers with regular ones. I put one stolen sticker in a safe, and sent the other to a children's hospital in Tennessee in an unaddressed envelope. Soon the newspapers were writing about a mysterious benefactor who gave McDonald's money to treat dying children.

Mafiosi, swindler and Mormon

The meeting with the man who put the scam on a grand scale happened by chance. At the airport, Jacobson struck up a conversation with an overweight man who sat down next to him. "Where are you going?" he asked. He opened a pot-bellied bag, showed packs of hundred-dollar bills lying in it and confidentially explained: in Atlantic City - a city that is famous for its casinos.

The neighbor, whose name was Gennaro Colombo, turned out to be connected to one of the five mafia families that control organized crime in New York. He was in charge of a nightclub in South Carolina, underground gambling houses and a sweepstakes. He quickly hit it off with Jacobson, who stole a sports car sticker for him. Columbo took the money and, without any embarrassment, starred in an advertisement for Monopoly, which McDonald's played on television.

Mafiosi cashed stolen stickers for several years through numerous relatives and henchmen. Jacobson received a reward from each win, got acquainted with criminal authorities and even introduced himself in the Italian manner: not Jerry, but Geraldo Constantino. I didn’t forget my relatives either: I gave a sticker for 200 thousand to my nephew, three more to my half-brother and one to a very distant relative. “I tossed them to the Salvation Army… gave them away… flushed million-dollar stickers down the toilet,” the half-brother later assured.

In 1998, Colombo had an accident and died, but Jacobson easily found new assistants. He drew into his undertaking a businessman whom he met in London; he set him up with swindler Andrew Glomb, who in the early 1980s was smuggling cocaine from Miami to Dallas, got caught and earned a 12-year sentence. He managed to escape to Europe, where he hid for more than a year, but in the end he was still caught and put behind bars. Recently, the term ended, and he was released from prison.

Glomb willingly joined the case and began to look for people among his acquaintances to cash out stolen stickers. As a result, large prizes went with surprising regularity to ex-convicts, drug dealers, and other dubious individuals. In 1999, McDonald's had to hand over a million dollars to a Pittsburgh dealer who confessed to selling 180 kilograms of cocaine. So what to do? There is no mention of cocaine in the Monopoly rules.

Many of the prank winners who were chosen by Jacobson's people lived in poverty. “We sat with bare bottoms, they had nothing,” Glomb recalls. “Imagine flying across the country to give someone a million dollars, and the person does not have money for lunch at a restaurant, you have to pay for it.”

Jacobson recruited another friend when he learned of his plight. Mormon Dwight Baker never got over a bad streak: he went into debt from a bad investment, lost his home, and to top it off, injured his spine in an accident. Jacobson wanted to help him and offered a million dollar sticker in exchange for a hundred thousand dollars. Baker quickly got involved, begged for more, and began cashing out stickers through relatives and friends.

FBI agent

In 2000, the FBI received an anonymous call. An unknown person said that the distribution of Monopoly prizes is controlled by an insider named "Uncle Jerry".

Special Agent Richard Dent was assigned to check the signal. He quickly realized that dozens, if not hundreds of people were involved in the scam. Apparently, for several years the scammers pocketed almost all the big prizes and went unnoticed. McDonald's was informed of the problem but asked not to show it. Now each Monopoly winner was carefully checked, and 25 agents across the country were connected to the search for intruders.

In May 2001, Dent noticed that three winners in a row lived within miles of each other. It was Baker's blunder: his precautions did not deceive the FBI. The home of security director Simon Marketing, who was also spotted by investigators, was nearby.

Dent obtained permission to tap the phones of suspicious winners and asked McDonald's to withhold the prizes. The unexpected delay caused panic among Baker, his relatives and acquaintances, who did not receive the expected winnings. They called each other and Jacobson, discussed what to do next, and the FBI recorded their conversations and filed them into the case.

To complete the investigation, all that remained was to catch the owner of the stolen million dollar sticker. McDonald's took down an advertisement for a prize that didn't really exist. It was a trap and it worked.

McDonald's was contacted by a Rhode Island casino manager claiming to have found the sticker. FBI agents descended on him under the guise of a film crew to capture the delivery of a symbolic check for a million dollars. Awkwardly clutching a fake check in front of the camera, he told how he fell asleep on the beach and dropped the magazine into the water. I had to buy another one, and it had an advertising tab with a sticker. Jacobson and his people who invented the bike didn't know it was impossible.

A few days later, FBI agents arrested Jacobson, Glomb, Baker, and several relatives and acquaintances of the Mormon. The casino manager with the fake prize also ended up behind bars. In the end, more than 50 people ended up in the dock. Jacobson, who was facing up to 45 years in prison, made a deal with the investigation and confessed to everything.

As a result, Jacobson was sentenced to three years in prison with $2.5 million in restitution. Several more people were sentenced to a year, the rest got off with suspended sentences and fines. Baker suffered particularly: he was excommunicated from the Mormon Church. Simon Marketing closed, and the CEO of McDonald's had to make a televised address to the citizens of America and apologize.

The identity of the informant who exposed Jacobson remains a mystery. Colombo's wife believes that one of her husband's relatives betrayed him. They believed that her death was also her fault, and when she tried to break ties with the mafia, they decided to put her in jail - she, too, was involved in the scam. "It was their retribution," she told The Daily Beast.

What do you associate the beginning of winter with - the first snow, a city decorated with Christmas trees and garlands, maybe slush?! I just caught myself thinking that with Monopoly at McDonald's, I have been participating in this outrage for the third year!

Despite the fact that I am a supporter of proper nutrition, we periodically go to McDonald's, and it is also located very close to my house - less than 5 minutes on foot. In the cool season, I most often buy hot tea and french fries. We also buy different sandwiches a little less often.

I also like the Monopoly game, we have a board game. Usually on holidays, when there is more time, we play it with the children.

In general, we love both McDonald's and Monopoly!

Products are packaged in special packaging with stickers.

Unfortunately, not all products are included in the promotion. Under the sticker - a prize. For me, the lottery is very exciting.

What can be found under stickers?

1. Instant prizes from McDonald's.

They can be divided into "incredible" prizes

and "real" prizes, those that come across often.

2. Street stickers, having collected combinations of which, you can apply for participation in the prize draw.

Analysis of my winnings.

At the moment movies, books, and, of course, food.

For 2 weeks, we were a couple of times in Mack with a big company, and we have accumulated 26 stickers.

What was there:

3 stickers for 350 rubles on TVzavr (I use other film resources, but I will also use the promotion)

2 stickers - 1 serving of french fries standard (for 50 rubles)

1 sticker from Litres (with it you can get one of their promotional books for free, this time there are 4 times more books than last year, but stickers come across less often). I actively use this resource, and have already planned a couple of books to receive in the future.

Streets:

Nagatinskaya emb. - 6 pcs.

M. Bronnaya - 3 pcs.

Rostovskaya embankment 2 - pcs.

st. Glade - 2 pcs.

1st Park - 2 pcs.

Warsaw sh. - 2 pcs.

Rublevskoe sh. -2 pcs.

Shchusev - 1 pc.

Smolenskaya square - 1 pc.

sq. Mayakovsky - 1 pc.

In general, at the moment I have not yet managed to collect a single combination to even get a chance to win at least something.. I don’t really hope to win anything, but I’m interested in participating in such an action. Therefore, in December I look into this institution 2 times more often.

For comparison : In the past year I very often came across stickers from Litres (every third for sure), discounts from the Lamoda store, which I did not use, promotional codes from Yandex Music, well, cheeseburgers, drinks, and pies.

Sometimes you walk past an uncleaned table, and on it is a glass with a whole sticker, there, probably, that same million, and Mac's janitor, of course, needs it more!

Thank you all for your feedback!
