Isoplat wood fiber insulation. Internal contour cladding with ISOPLAAT, ISOTEX panels Isoplast frame house walls

For quality repairs, it is always necessary to use only the best materials. This article will discuss in detail the heat and sound insulation plate called Izoplat, its characteristics, purpose, prices and much more.

Izoplat is a special plate that can be used for both thermal insulation and sound insulation.

This material is environmentally natural, since it is made from coniferous fibers without the addition of glue or any other artificial impurities. The shredded wood is simply moistened, laid out in a straight line and compacted with a hot press with wax, which turns the finished material into dense sheets.

Izoplat can be used for the following purposes:

  • for cladding interior walls with dry and medium humidity levels;
  • for thermal insulation as insulation of the highest category;
  • for soundproofing rooms both inside and outside;
  • for cladding external walls for the purpose of insulation.

Characteristics and advantages of Isoplat boards

Izoplat slabs appeared not so long ago in the construction markets, but they have already gained great demand and popularity. They have the following technical characteristics:

Installation features

Installation of classic insulation sheets has the following features:

  1. Before installation, they must be kept for two days in the room in which they will be mounted. This is necessary so that the moisture content of the material becomes the same as the moisture content in the room. To do this, the plates must be placed in a straight upright position and small wooden beams must be installed between them.
  2. This material is attached to the wood frame with nails or special construction staples. It is best to use high quality nails with a fairly wide head volume. They need to be hammered at a distance of 2 cm from the edges of the wood sheet. In the middle, the interval should be 30 cm.
  3. If such slabs are subsequently wallpaper-pasted, then the interval between the middle rows of nails should be no more than 35 cm.
  4. For installation on a stone wall, use construction adhesive. It is also important to know that the base of the wall must be flat and clean (no dust). The adhesive should be applied to the back of the board 30 cm from the edges. In the middle of the slab - with an interval of 15 cm. If you see the need to strengthen the slabs, then they can be supported from below.
  5. Such plates can be painted. To do this, the heads of the nails must be putty.
  6. Isoplat can also be used for interior cladding of rooms. In this case, installation is carried out using classical technologies. Before starting work, putty must be applied to the plates.

Installation of moisture-resistant Isoplat sheets has the following features:

  1. Before starting work, the surface of the walls must be degreased, cleaned of dust and dirt. If mold is present, apply an antifungal agent and dry thoroughly.
  2. If the surface of the walls is uneven, so moisture-resistant slabs Isoplates must be installed on a special frame structure or wooden lathing. You need to fix it with galvanized nails. The total distance of the beams to the lattices should be no more than 30 cm.Nails should be nailed every 12 cm.
  3. The joints of such sheets must be putty and covered with reinforced tape. It is also advisable to putty the nail heads.
  4. These plates can also be left as a decor, only having varnished them on top. It will look great in private homes. If you want to mask this material, then you can use wallpaper and plaster (for interior walls) or paint (for exterior walls).

Reviews on the use of plates

  1. Igor, 35 years old, Moscow.“I made repairs in the apartment using this material. Initially, the problem was in the cold walls, which also let in a lot of noise. After the installation of Isoplat plates, the apartment became much warmer, the constant noises coming from the street disappeared. So far, I'm happy with everything. "
  2. Maxim, 34 years old, Kazan.“I insulated a private house with Izoplatom. I want to say that this material is very cool, because it is easy to use - to attach with nails and that's it, there is no unnecessary fuss! For the second year already, the house has successfully survived the winter and nothing has disappeared anywhere. The room is very warm, dry and cozy. I can recommend Izoplat with confidence. "
  3. Daniel, 26 years old, Chelyabinsk.“Personally, I didn’t like the Isoplat plates. It seems that this is just wood waste, which the manufacturers decided to compress and called it a miracle insulation. I mounted one of the rooms in my apartment with them, but did not see any result: all the rooms, as before, had the same temperature and sound insulation. Disappointed with the next advertising antics of the construction market ”.
  4. Valentina, 41 years old, Novosibirsk.“I have two children, so I care very much about the quality and naturalness of the materials. I was very pleased that these plates are made exclusively from natural ingredients. As for the final result, it was wonderful: the interior walls of the apartment leveled off and became much warmer. This is a great alternative to other, more chemical materials! "
  5. Mikhail, 31 years old, Moscow.“I used these wood sheets as moisture and wind protection on the exterior wall of the house. In principle, the result is not bad, but I do not think that this material will cope with more serious tasks, such as thermal insulation and sound insulation, so I would not use it for such purposes. "
  6. Arthur, 48 years old, Volgograd.“I made repairs in the house with my own hands. On the advice of familiar builders, I used Isoplat sheets to insulate the outer walls. I can say that I liked working with them, because they are easy to cut and just as easily and quickly attached to the walls. The effect was also pleasing - it became warmer, and at the same time, the extra noise from the street went away. I do not regret the time and money spent ”.
  7. Boris, 56 years old, Vladivostok.“I used Izoplat as insulation, because there was always a problem with walls freezing and poor heat retention. I attached slabs to the outside of the house. Despite all expectations, in the cold the house still froze, and there were even drops of dew on the ceiling due to condensation. Now I'm thinking of insulating the ceiling for them, but I doubt that it will help. It would be better if I used something else. "
  8. Bogdan, 45 years old, Nizhny Novgorod.“Quite by accident I came across this material in a construction supermarket. He immediately interested me, since I had never seen insulation made of wood before. For testing, I took several sheets and insulated one of the walls of the room with them. I waited for the winter to see the result. As it turned out, the effect was and the wall became warmer. The next year, I already completely installed Izoplat on all the walls of the house. Now I plan to do the same at the dacha, because so far I haven’t found better material ”.

After analyzing the reviews, it can be noted that most of the people who tried it were satisfied with the effect of the Isoplat sheets, since it became much warmer in their house.

  1. It is very important that the walls on which Izoplat will be attached are clean, dry and mildew-free, otherwise it can threaten with serious consequences and threaten a quality repair;
  2. It is recommended to store these materials in a dry place in the packaging so that they do not get moisture;
  3. Only high-quality materials should be used for installation;
  4. If you do not want to use nails for mounting plates, then screws can easily replace them, which will be even stronger;
  5. Isoplat should be used only for its intended purpose and do not use moisture-resistant sheets as insulation, since they will not have the expected effect.

The line of sheet materials intended for insulation and decoration of buildings has been replenished with a new trademark.

Its name - Izoplat still says little to most developers. Therefore, the purpose of this article is a detailed and objective description of this material.

What is Izoplat?

In short, Izoplat is a soft fibreboard, abbreviated as MDVP. It is made from softwood fibers. Country of origin - Estonia, manufacturer - Skano Fiberboard.

Before wood becomes a slab, several stages of processing await it. First, the starting material - chips are scalded with steam and softened in hot water. After that, it is grinded, receiving a liquid fibrous mass, and poured onto the conveyor belt. Excess moisture is removed from the wood "carpet" by vacuum pumps, subjected to hot pressing and dried in tunnel chambers. The last stage is cutting into standard sheets with a thickness of 4 to 50 mm.

Manufacturers claim that Isoplaat technology does not use glue. The fibers in the slabs are connected by a natural polymer - lignin. It is found in any coniferous wood and is activated as a result of strong heat and pressure.

Now let's see where this material is used and what properties it has.

Scope of application

Isoplat sheets are used to insulate the roof, as well as as a wind shield for the walls of frame buildings. In addition, a slab is produced for internal heat and sound insulation of premises. Thin sheets (4-7 mm) have proven themselves well as a substrate for floor coverings (parquet, laminate).

The material used for external work (wind protection of walls, insulation of the roof) is treated with liquid paraffin to increase its moisture-proof properties. It is placed on the wall frame before the installation of external finishes (siding, blockhouse). Isoplat is laid on the roof before installing metal tiles, slate, sheet metal or bituminous tiles. Roofing and windproof boards have a tongue-and-groove joint edge. It increases the tightness of the joints and simplifies installation.

The Izoplat slab for interior work (wall cladding, ceilings, laminate lining) is not paraffin-impregnated and does not have a joining edge. The front side is made denser and smoother (for finishing).

physical characteristics

The thermal conductivity of the Izoplat slab is comparable to that of mineral wool (0.045 W / (m * K). However, due to its small thickness, this material cannot be considered as an independent thermal insulation. The best option is to support the main insulation.

The moisture resistance of the paraffin-treated windproof boards is quite high. However, manufacturers do not recommend leaving them open for more than 2 months. The negative point is the change in the geometry of the sheet under the influence of moisture. When moistened, the wood-fiber material forms "waves". With external installation, this is not so critical (the plate is covered by an external cladding).

When installed internally, this leads to seams opening and warping. Therefore, before finishing, all joints must be glued with reinforcing tape and putty, and the slab must be securely fixed to the wall.

High vapor permeability of MDVP boards is explained by their fibrous structure. Using this material for wind protection, you can do without a film vapor barrier.

Sound insulating ability is one of the main advantages of this material. For this reason, it is actively used to reduce the noise level in rooms (by 23-26 decibels).

The density of the panels ranges from 230 to 270 kg / m3.

Fire resistance of Izoplat boards fully complies with fire safety standards. The fibrous material prevents the spread of fire. Under the influence of the flame, it is charred and the ash blocks the access of oxygen to the inner layers of the wood.

Biostability. The wood fiber is exposed to hot water, pressure and high temperature during processing. As a result, substances (sugar, starch) are washed out and decomposed, which serve as a breeding ground for fungus and mold.

The manufacturer claims that the environmental characteristics of this material are at the level of natural wood. Since the material does not contain hazardous chemicals and toxic glue, it is hypoallergenic and can be used in children's rooms.

The service life is 50 years. It is for this period that the manufacturer gives a guarantee.

Dimensions (edit)

The standard size of the wind and sound insulation board is 2,700 x 1,200 mm (thickness 12 to 50 mm). The tongue-and-groove windproof plate has smaller dimensions of 2400x800 mm.

Roofing Izoplat, equipped with a joining edge, is cut into sheets 1875 by 1200 mm, 1800 by 600 mm, and also 2500 by 750 (with a thickness of 12 and 25 mm).

The sheets used as underlays for laminate and parquet flooring are 850 mm long and 590 mm wide (thickness from 4 to 7 mm).

Prices

The approximate price in 2017 of heat-sound-insulating and windproof plates with a thickness of 12 mm is 250-300 rubles / m2. For a thicker material (25 mm), you will have to pay an average of 500-600 rubles / m2.

Roofing Izoplat (25 mm) is sold at a price of 700 rubles / m2.

The thinnest material for lining under a laminate (4 mm) can be purchased for 130 rubles / m2. A thicker 7 mm substrate will cost no less than 190 rubles / m2.

Reviews

Isoplat for the exterior cladding of the house and the roof is used more actively than the material intended for interior wall decoration. The desire of the manufacturer to introduce its products into all types of facing works is logical and understandable. However, in the reviews of those who used Izoplat MDVP for interior wall decoration, you can find many complaints.

The first group of claims relates to the consumption of glue for fixing the sheets and the flatness of the surface on which they are placed. The actual amount of adhesive is much higher than the manufacturer's recommendation. In addition, the walls under Izoplat must be perfectly flat. In those places where there are slight depressions on the surface, it does not adhere well.

The second disadvantage relates to the joints. If you do not reinforce them with a reinforcing mesh, then the next day after installation you will see that they have parted. After a while, the joints of the slabs converge. This behavior is caused by a change in air humidity, which results in fluctuations in the size of the sheet.

The third unpleasant surprise for beginners concerns the preparation of the panels for wallpapering. The consumption of the primer is high, since the Izoplat plate for interior wall decoration is very hygroscopic. And even after full saturation with a primer, there is no guarantee that the wallpaper will stick tightly on it.

Let's reveal a little secret. In the homeland of this material in Estonia, wallpaper is not glued to it. Therefore, experts advise everyone who has encountered this problem to first paint over the sheets with breathable acrylic paint and then glue the wallpaper. It is clear that the laboriousness and cost of such "fine-tuning" pleases no one.

Fortunately, Isoplat boards have a "twin brother" - a material called Isotex, produced by the same manufacturer. In the factory, wallpaper or decorative textiles are glued onto it, which behave flawlessly during operation. The only drawback is a small selection of colors and textures of Isotex boards.

We did not find any serious complaints about the material used for the substrate, external wall cladding and roof insulation. The only remark relates to the use of slabs with a tongue-and-groove connection for wind protection.

Straight-edged sheets are not very convenient to work with. For them, it is necessary to design the arrangement of the frame racks so that the joints of the slabs fall on their centers. At the same time, the free space between the posts is less than the standard width of the insulation (600 mm). Mineral wool has to be cut, which increases the amount of waste, labor intensity and cost of insulation.

It should also be noted the high price of Izoplat boards in comparison with other types of cladding (drywall, lining) and insulation (mineral wool, ecowool). This factor makes the buyer think carefully before making a purchase.

Installation features

For the installation of Izoplat indoors, experts recommend buying material with a thickness of at least 25 mm. The 12mm sheet is less rigid and often "waves" when the humidity fluctuates.

The panels should be allowed to “mature” for several days in the room where they will be installed. This prevents the material from warping after installation.

Fastening of slabs to brick and concrete walls is carried out using glue and screws. For work, you can use drywall glue or foam. The thickness of the adhesive should be at least 10 mm with a layer width of 5 cm.

The distance between the strokes is chosen within 30 cm. The distance of the glue from the edge of the sheet is at least 3 cm. After applying the glue, the sheet is pressed tightly against the wall and kept in this position for 15-20 minutes. After that, the plate is fixed with galvanized dowels, deepening their heads into sheets by 1-2 mm, and the installation sites are putty.

As we have already said, before finishing, the Izoplat slab must be primed, and its joints must be reinforced with a serpentine mesh and putty.

Installation of windscreens and roof insulation

Installation of Isoplat® on a wooden frame, walls and roof is carried out with stainless steel construction brackets, galvanized nails with a wide head or screws with flat heads. In the process of sheathing, a gap of at least 2 mm is left between the sheets.

The step of the lathing when installing the panels on the roof depends on their thickness.

For 12 mm sheets, it should be no more than 30 cm, and for 25 mm sheets, no more than 60 cm.

Nails and staples are driven in at a distance of at least 20 mm from the edge of the sheet. The interval between the fastening points at the edges of the panels should be no more than 10 cm.In the middle of the sheets, the recommended fastening pitch is 20 cm.

The windbreak plates are fixed to the walls at a height of 30-40 cm from the ground surface using a starter bar. Installation of panels with straight edge is carried out in a vertical position.

Plates with a 4-sided thorn-groove connection are placed in horizontal rows.

To remove water vapor from the windproof plate, it is necessary to create a gap of 3 to 5 cm wide. To do this, a wooden block (counter-rail) is stuffed onto the installed panels and the outer wall and roof cladding is already attached to it.

Laying panels on the floor

Installation of the Isoplat substrate on the floor can be started after keeping it indoors for 24 hours. To speed up the process of leveling the moisture content of the material with the air humidity, spacers of wooden blocks are placed between the sheets with a step of 30 cm.

The base for laying the material must be dry (moisture content no more than 5%) and even (protrusions and depressions no more than 1 mm per 2 meters of the length of the room are allowed).

Working with MDWP backing is easy. This material is easily cut with a knife, and for its laying you need a minimum of tools: a square and a tape measure. Installation of sheets is carried out at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the direction of laying the laminate or parquet board. This method eliminates the coincidence of the seams in the lining and flooring.

When installing the lining, a deformation gap of 0.5-1 cm is left between it and the wall. To enhance contact with the floor slab or cement screed, the substrate can be fixed to them with glue.

What is Izoplat wood fiber insulation, how it is made, types of material, technical characteristics, pros, cons and features of DIY installation.

Description and production of wood fiber insulation

Wood fiber insulation from the Izoplat company is a special type of thermal insulation that can be used as a building material as well. Insulation under the Isoplaat trademark is produced by the Estonian company Skano.

This material is produced using the technology of drying or pressing a wood fiber "carpet". In this case, wood waste is used - shavings, sawdust, etc. The ground raw material is processed with water and folded into a "carpet". After that, it is compacted under the influence of the press so that the sheets are formed and the production of lignin begins.

If necessary, chemical substances are introduced into the fiberboard that improve certain characteristics of the material. However, adhesives containing harmful phenol-formaldehyde compounds are not used for gluing Isoplat boards. The fibers are joined together by natural resins that wood contains. The structure of the finished material is similar to felt.

Then the material is dried for several hours. The finished slabs are shaped on a cutting machine. The standard size is 2700x1200 mm. The thickness can be 10, 12 and 25 millimeters. At the same time, one of the sides of the slab is smooth, which allows it to be used for finishing.

Isoplat wood fiber insulation is a completely homogeneous natural sound and heat insulator. It has sufficient strength for frame housing construction. Soft fiberboard occupies a leading position among windproof materials in the Baltic States and Scandinavia. It is also considered an alternative to drywall.

Isoplat is used both in residential buildings and in seasonal buildings (dachas, country houses). Also, for greater efficiency, it is used in multilayer structures as a sound-absorbing soft or lining material in combination with hard sound-reflecting sheets.

Fiberboard insulation can be used to insulate roofs (usually chopped), walls, ceilings, floors. It is also used as a substrate for laminate or parquet, which is called "floating". Isoplate is easy to process and cut, which guarantees an accurate fit of the boards.

The main varieties of Isoplat

You can choose Isoplat plates to suit your needs, using a wide range of this universal heat insulator:
  • Roofing slabs... They are used for installation under roof tiles on rafters. With their help, you can perfectly drown out the noise of precipitation and insulate the roof. There is a milled tenon-groove at the ends. The material is additionally impregnated with paraffin to achieve maximum non-hygroscopicity.
  • Windproof slabs... Suitable for sound and heat insulation of external surfaces under a ventilated facade. Paraffin-impregnated and completely waterproof. They are used, as a rule, for insulating wooden, frame houses, from a bar, as well as attics.
  • Laminate underlay... This type of Isoplat fiberboard is used for laying under parquet and laminate as an additional layer of insulation. Products are capable of leveling out certain floor defects, and it is not necessary to use a screed or plywood.
  • Heat and sound insulation boards Isoplaat... Their scope of use is the interior walls of the house, as well as ceilings. Most often, such plates are used instead of drywall sheets. They perfectly protect against cold penetration and extraneous noise. In addition, wallpaper can be glued directly onto them.
In addition, Izotex panels are considered a separate group of Isoplat wood fiber insulation. They have the same structure as the first ones, however, they are covered with a decorative layer, which allows them to be used as the final finishing material for walls and ceilings.

Isoplaat Specifications

Since there are several varieties of Isoplat plates, the material cannot have uniform technical characteristics. Consider the properties of the most common universal heat and sound insulation products:
  1. Thermal conductivity... According to this indicator, the slabs are close to stone wool. The coefficient is 0.045 W / (m * K). Small thickness allows you to economically use space when insulating with this material.
  2. Moisture resistance... Almost all products are treated with paraffin, which makes them non-hygroscopic and resistant to moisture. Even a small percentage of moisture absorbed by Isoplat will not deteriorate the thermal insulation characteristics of the material. Wood will accumulate moisture, but the interfiber space, which is responsible for thermal conductivity, will remain free of water.
  3. Vapor permeability... Natural insulation allows the walls to "breathe". It does not allow condensate to accumulate on the surface, removing moisture to the outside.
  4. Soundproofing... The material is capable of absorbing 23 to 26 decibels of acoustic noise.
  5. Density... For Izoplat, this figure is from 230 to 270 kilograms per cubic meter.
  6. Compressive strength... The slabs have an indicator of about 200 kPa. This allows them to be used to insulate coatings under a soft roof.
  7. Fire resistance... Universal Izoplat products comply with all fire safety standards. Despite the fact that wood is the raw material for their production, the special structure of the material does not allow fire to spread. When exposed to a flame, ash will form on the surface of the insulation, blocking the access of oxygen to the fire site.
  8. Biological resistance... During the production of boards, wood is deprived of such components as starch, sugar, which serve as food for microorganisms. Therefore, mold, rot and fungi will not appear on the insulation.
  9. Environmental friendliness... In the manufacturing process of this heat insulator, no harmful chemicals or glue are used. Therefore, the material will not emit volatile compounds during installation and during use.
  10. Lifetime... The manufacturer sets a warranty period for plates - 50 years. With proper installation, Izoplat can be operated longer.

Advantages of Isoplat plates

This versatile insulation material has many advantages. Consider them:
  • Ecological cleanliness of the insulation... Raw materials for Izoplat are wood. There are no binders in the composition, the fibers are intertwined in a natural way and are held together by natural resins. Therefore, it is important to use such material to insulate wooden eco-houses, as well as rooms in which children and allergy sufferers live.
  • Excellent vapor permeability... Isoplat is able to regulate the humidity inside the building and create a favorable microclimate.
  • High thermal inertia... Plates are capable of accumulating and giving off heat for 14 hours. Thus, the temperature inside the building is stabilized. Temperature fluctuations will not be felt as much as the temperature rises or falls outside the room.
  • Not subject to shrinkage or degradation... Unlike a large number of synthetic insulation materials, fiberboards do not shrink or deform over time.
  • Windproof ability... It is possible to install Izoplat plates as wind protection. The fiber is located inside the material in layers, along which air pores are chaotically concentrated. Getting into the space between the fibers, the outside air loses pressure and speed.
  • Filtration properties... Isoplat, due to its structure, is able to trap harmful compounds. This is especially true when using plates in structures with insulation such as expanded polystyrene, mineral wool, which can emit formaldehyde, styrene and other toxic chemicals.
  • Ease of installation... No special equipment is required to install the products. All work can be done with your own hands. The convenient tongue-and-groove system greatly facilitates the installation process.

Disadvantages of Isoplat fiber boards

Before you buy this insulation, you should study the reviews on the Internet and pay attention to the disadvantages of Izoplat:
  • Increased softness when exposed to moisture... If the material is exposed to water or humid air for a long time, it will become softer. However, when it dries, it will regain its strength and shape.
  • Relatively high price... Natural materials tend to be more expensive. Izoplat is no exception. Therefore, it will cost an order of magnitude more than artificial insulation.

Price and manufacturer of Izoplat boards

The rights to the Isoplaat trade name belong to the Estonian company Skano. Therefore, if you find on sale material with the same name, but from another manufacturer, then this is a fake.

The price of fiberboard insulation may vary depending on its type. The average cost in Russia is as follows:

  1. Heat and sound insulating plate Izoplat - from 200 to 500 rubles per square meter;
  2. Windproof plate Izoplat - from 290 to 1150 rubles per square;
  3. Thermal insulating substrate for Isoplat laminate - from 115 to 200 rubles per square meter;
  4. Facade slabs Izoplat - from 1000 to 1200 rubles per square.

Brief instructions for the installation of insulation Izoplat

Before proceeding with the installation of heat and sound insulating wood-fiber boards, it is recommended to hold them for a couple of days in the room where the work is planned. Thus, the moisture content of the material will equalize with the moisture content of the air in the building.

From the tools you will need construction brackets or self-tapping screws with a flat head, a knife, a building level, a hammer or screwdriver.

Installation of Isoplaat boards can be carried out on pre-installed battens or glued directly to the wall surface.

We work according to the following scheme:

  • If you decide to make a crate, then its step should be from 30 to 60 centimeters, depending on the thickness of the slab.
  • For fastening to concrete and brick surfaces, you can use various types of adhesives - for thermal insulation, gypsum-based, for drywall, as well as polyurethane foam.
  • Apply glue to the rough surface of the product in stripes or dots along the perimeter. We press the insulation to the surface.
  • Self-tapping screws or nails when attaching the plates to the crate should be flush with the surface and not protrude above the insulation.
  • Seal the fasteners with putty.
  • If you fixed the slabs with glue, then before decorative finishing it is recommended to walk twice over them with glue or primer (if painting is planned).
As for the Izoplat heat-insulating substrate, it is not necessary to use any glue or fasteners for its installation. It is laid in a floating way using a tongue-and-groove system.

Among the best representatives of this group of materials ISOPLAAT, which has a lot of advantages and benefits.

ISOPLAAT is a brand of sound and heat insulation boards made exclusively from natural materials. It contains neither glue nor any other chemical-based components. For this reason, ISOPLAAT is in every respect a profitable acquisition:

  • absorbs well and removes moisture just as well;
  • durable (service life of at least 50 years);
  • impeccable from the point of view of environmental safety.

ISOPLAAT is made from softwood fibers. The production technology is simple: the crushed wood is moistened to a state of maximum saturation with water, after which the resulting mass is laid out in an even layer and compressed by hot pressing.

In the process of such processing, lignin is released from the wood fibers, the only substance in their composition that can act as a binder. Thanks to this resin, no glue is required to obtain boards of the desired density. Therefore, the product made by pressing has an absolute environmental friendliness.

At this stage of production, the chopped wood “carpet” is not only compacted, but also formed. The material is cut into plates of standard sizes. The layer thickness also determines the thickness of the slab.

Standard parameters:

  • length 270 cm;
  • width 120 cm;
  • thickness 8, 10, 12 and 25 mm.

After pressing and shaping, the slabs are sent for hot drying, where they are kept for several hours and acquire all the necessary properties of a high-quality sound and heat insulation material. To ensure moisture protection, both sides of the boards are covered with a layer of paraffin. But this material is not applied to the ends.

ISOPLAAT is produced in Estonia, the owner of the brand is the group of companies "SKAN-GROUP". There are no Russian or any other analogues of this material. It comes directly from an Estonian manufacturer.

Properties of ISOPLAAT boards

The difference between Izoplat and other brands of fibreboard is that one of its sides is smooth, suitable for fine finishing. As a result, this material is the most profitable alternative to the usual drywall, OSB and plywood.

But this is not the only advantage of ISOPLAAT panels. They have the property of absorbing moisture up to 20% of their volume. At the same time, they do not lose their geometric shapes and technical characteristics. Since these boards are made of wood fiber, they wick moisture well. That is, they are "breathable" material that can provide an optimal microclimate in the house.

Unlike natural fibers, artificial fibers are not able to absorb moisture or let it pass. Therefore, GKL and GVL do not differ in the high-quality removal of vapors from the premises. In this respect, moisture-resistant plywood with OSB is also significantly inferior to Izoplat. The reason is that these materials contain various chemical additives.

Why a windshield plate is a must

Other advantages of ISOPLAAT boards include:

  • high-quality sound insulation provided by the porous fibrous structure of the slab;
  • high heat capacity, which determines the ability to regulate the air temperature in the room;
  • excellent acoustic properties, ensuring no echo effect.

ISOPLAAT boards are easy to process. You can easily drive a nail or screw in a self-tapping screw into them. The blade can be easily cut with a circular saw, jigsaw or hand saw.

Types of ISOPLAAT boards

Three types of ready-to-use products are made from wood fiber sheets:

  • sound and heat insulation boards for the exterior of the house;
  • windproof plates;
  • universal plates with joint ends using the “thorn-groove” method.

For the exterior decoration of buildings, the first two types of this material are used: windproof and heat-insulating. Each of them has a layered structure, strong and durable.

Technical characteristics of ISOPLAAT heat and sound insulation boards

ISOPLAAT of this type are produced in thicknesses of 8, 10, 12 and 25 mm. The main function of these plates is heat protection. Its characteristics are as follows:

  • for plates with a thickness of 8, 10 and 12 mm, the thermal conductivity is 0.053 W / m2 * ° С;
  • for plates with a thickness of 25 mm - 0.045 W / m2 * ° С.

The thermal conductivity indicator shows how much heat a given material passes per 1 m2 of its area with a temperature drop of 1 ° C. Based on the data presented, it can be concluded that ISOPLAAT thermal insulation boards are similar in their characteristics to fibrous thermal insulators.

For this reason, in regions with mild climates, they can act as the main thermal insulation material. But for areas with cold winters, Izoplat alone will not be enough to protect the house. Or you will need to lay a double or triple layer of this material.

The best option for cladding a frame house with ISOPLAAT slabs:

  • external finishing;
  • interior decoration;
  • inside the frame there is foam or fiber insulation.

With this approach to the use of Isoplat boards, the energy efficiency of the building will be impeccable. That is, in winter, heating such a house will require the least amount of resources. In summer, such walls keep the coolness inside the premises well.

Please note: a 12 mm thick slab has the same thermal insulation characteristics as 45 cm wood or 20 cm brickwork.

Another important indicator of this type of "Isoplat" is the sound absorption coefficient. If this characteristic is the main criterion for choosing a material, it should be understood that the effectiveness of sound absorption depends on the thickness of the board. The larger it is, the higher the soundproofing rate.

Slab characteristics are shown in the table.

For a better understanding of the significance of the sound insulation indicator, one can give the following example: the volume level of a conversation between people is 50 dB, a crying of a child is 70 dB, the volume of a jackhammer is 212 dB, a person's whisper at a distance of 1 m is 25 dB. Using Isoplat slabs for cladding a house, it is possible to reduce the sound permeability coefficient of the walls by up to 50%.

Technical characteristics of ISOPLAAT wind protection boards

Isoplat wind-resistant slabs have their own peculiarity: both sides of the canvases have a dark green color. This is a special marking provided by the manufacturer, and is necessary only so that you can immediately understand what type of plates this material belongs to. Standard board parameters:

  • thickness 12 or 25 mm;
  • dimensions 2700x1200 mm;
  • straight edge around the entire perimeter of the web.

Isoplaat - high quality, windproof board made from natural materials

The main difference between windproof plates and heat-shielding ones is that the former are impregnated with paraffin throughout the entire thickness of the sheet. This provides a high coefficient of moisture resistance, which is extremely important for the exterior of the building. Therefore, such material can be safely used in the cladding of a frame or other other house.

With the help of Isoplat windproof plates, you can easily turn an old summer house into a comfortable house for all-season living. The canvases installed on the walls can be coated with plaster or a ventilated facade mounted on top of them.

Disadvantages of ISOPLAAT boards

You can find different reviews about the characteristics of the plates of the Estonian manufacturer "SCAN-GROUP". Basically, the opinion about the slabs "Izoplat" is positive. The only thing that one cannot be completely sure of is the durability of this material. The manufacturer claims that its products will last at least half a century. But ISOPLAAT is a relatively new material, so the test of time has not yet passed.

When choosing Isoplat boards as a windscreen, main or additional insulation, several points should be taken into account:

  • the softness of this material;
  • the need for a strictly even cut when cutting canvases.

Due to the high water absorption coefficient, the boards should not be stored outdoors. They must be covered with plastic wrap. When working with Izoplat, you must be extremely careful not to drop the plates or step on them. The downside of this material is its low resistance to mechanical stress. Therefore, Izoplat sheets can become unusable from any blow or pressure. If the panel breaks, it will either need to be cut or replaced. This will lead to additional financial costs.

The second disadvantage of this material is that the ends of the plates are not protected from moisture. This is another reason to protect this material during storage at the construction site. The lack of protection of the ends also determines the installation technology of "Isoplat", regardless of whether it is a heat-insulating sheet or a windproof one.

Important: after installing two or more Isoplat boards on the wall, the joints between them must be sealed on the same day with polyurethane foam.

The next day, the excess foam is cut off. If a ventilated facade is planned, bars with a section of 40x50 mm or 50x50 mm are stuffed at the junction of the canvases, which will provide the ventilation gap required by the technology and serve as a frame for the installation of finishing material.

ISOPLAAT boards installation rules

In frame house building, ISOPLAAT is used as a material for bridging cold bridges. The fact is that the frame racks are made of wood, which has a higher thermal conductivity than the insulation (foam or mineral wool) laid between the supports.

Therefore, the frame itself is a complex of cold bridges, which must be covered with sheet materials that are optimal in terms of characteristics. In this regard, ISOPLAAT is the most advantageous option for several reasons:

  • low cost;
  • light weight for easy installation;
  • malleability to processing.

Plates installation rules

Installation of slabs on the walls of an exploited building or on the frame of a house under construction is carried out mainly in a vertical position. That is, in the direction of the length of the canvas: the side with a length of 1200 mm (the width of the slab) should be located at the base or foundation of the house.

The technology of frame housing construction provides for the installation of frame racks with a step of 60 cm. Thus, the Izoplata slab will be located between three racks. This ensures the convenience of fastening and the absence of the need for additional cutting of the canvases.

The length of the slab is 2700 mm, which ensures the convenience of wall cladding, the height of which is 2 m 70 cm or less. If the height of the walls exceeds this indicator, a gap will remain between the edge of the upper cut of the sheathing and the upper floor. In this case, from the side of the internal space of the house, wooden bars are stuffed between the frame posts, which are fixed at a height of 2 m 68 cm.Under this condition, you can fix the upper edge of the already installed panel with self-tapping screws and build it up from above with a similar cloth, but of a shorter length.

The wind or heat protection panel is attached to the supporting base using self-tapping screws or nails. The first method is the most preferable, as it can damage the slab when hitting with a hammer. Therefore, when working with this material, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws and a battery-powered screwdriver.

Since Izoplat is a soft material, self-tapping screws are screwed in at a distance of at least 1 cm from the end of the web. If fasteners are installed closer to the slab cut, it may delaminate or crumble.

If plaster is to be applied over Isoplat, the slab must be fixed in 15 cm increments to each frame post adjacent to it. But this method is rarely used, since a ventilated facade is traditionally mounted on top of the windscreen. Therefore, additional fixation is carried out using wooden blocks that are stuffed over the slabs, which will serve as the basis for the facade. In this case, it is enough to fix Izoplat in just three places on each frame post adjacent to the slab.

To fix the panels, you can use construction brackets with a length of at least 32 mm.

With a blade thickness of 12 mm, the optimum length of nails and screws is 40 mm.

For panels with a thickness of 25 mm, fasteners with a length of 70-75 mm are used.

Additional accessories

For ease of installation, you can use self-made accessories. If you are not sure of your eye, a block is used to mark the attachment points of the plates, on which marks are applied with a marker every 15 cm.

A wooden board or block with half nails driven into them will serve as a support for installing the slab on the wall. To do this, the bar is attached to the beam of the lower frame strapping in the place where the Isoplat canvas should be installed.

Step-by-step installation instructions for ISOPLAAT boards

Sheathing of a frame house

Step 1. Markup.

A line is drawn on the beams of the lower strapping around the entire perimeter of the house, which will serve as a guide for installing the plates. The markup is performed using a bubble building level, square, pencil or marker.

Step 2. Marking the fixing points of the slabs.

If on top of "Izoplaat" it is planned to install a facing finish with a material that does not require a frame (plastering, "wet facade"), markings are made on each canvas at a distance of 15 cm, which corresponds to the attachment points of the slabs to the frame posts. The markup is applied gradually, as the next panel is installed.

Step 3. Installation of plates.

Installation of panels is carried out from the corner of the house. The plate is installed so that its lower edge is located along the marking line drawn in step # 1. The long side of the panel should be adjacent to the corner post of the frame.

The slab is held and fixed first in the middle, then on both sides of it. The number of attachment points depends on the future plans for the facade cladding.

Step 4. Further installation of the plates.

The panels do not fit closely to each other, but with a gap of 2-3 mm. This small gap is necessary to compensate for changes in the geometric dimensions of the webs, due to the influence of the environment.

Step 5. Sealing joints.

To close the gaps between the panels, either moisture-resistant and frost-resistant mounting foam or moisture-resistant silicone sealant is used. After the foam and sealant have set, the excess of these aggregates is cut off with a knife.

Sheathing of window and door openings with ISOPLAAT plates

Step 1. Cutting out the panels.

The cutting of the canvases is performed in accordance with the design of the building in use or the project of the one under construction. The slabs are cut using a jigsaw equipped with a fine-toothed file or a hacksaw.

Step 2. Sheathing of openings with Isoplat plates.

For cladding window and door openings, the same installation rules apply as for cladding walls. The panels are installed at a distance of 2-3 mm from each other. The outer edges of the slabs must exactly follow the lines of the openings. That is, the panels are fixed flush with the corresponding edges of the boards or bars that form the opening.

Step 3. Sealing joints.

Sealing the gaps between the plates is carried out in the same way: using polyurethane foam or silicone sealant.

Frameless cladding with ISOPLAAT slabs

If the wall of the house is not made of wood, but brick or concrete, you can use the frameless method of fastening the Isoplat plates. But the possibility of its use is provided only if the supporting base has a flat surface. The permissible differences in depths and heights are within a few millimeters.

This requirement is most often feasible for interior decoration of premises with heat and sound insulating panels. Therefore, the frameless method of fixing Isoplat plates is extremely rarely used for exterior cladding of a house. But if such an opportunity exists, the proposed instructions can be used for installation.

Step 1. Choosing an adhesive.

For fixing Isoplat fiberboards, you can use a moisture-resistant and frost-resistant binder. These include: glue "Ceresit ST 190" and "Baumit Star Contact".

Baumit StarContact. Annotation, instructions for preparation and application, technical conditions. Download file

Panels can also be glued using polyurethane foam "Macroflex", "Penosil" and analogs.

Step 2. Applying glue.

A notched trowel is used to apply and distribute the adhesive. 25-30 cm recede from the edge of the sheet and a strip of glue 0.3-0.5 cm thick is applied. Another 20-25 cm is retreated and the next strip of binder is applied. The adhesive should be on the rough side of the board and on the area of the wall where the board will be installed.

Step 3. Fixing the slab on the wall.

After installing the slab to the wall, you need to press it tightly for a while (indicated in the instructions of the glue manufacturer). When cladding the walls of a house for this purpose, you can use long boards, which are installed at an angle to the "Isoplat" panel so that the end of the board is close to the wall.

The final stage of installation is the sealing of joints. For this purpose, polyurethane foam or silicone sealant is traditionally used.

Isoplat plates for exterior cladding of a house - material properties and installation technology

Are you looking for an environmentally friendly thermal insulation material that can be used for the exterior decoration of a country house? There is such a material, it is environmentally friendly, easy to install, and in addition, it is characterized by excellent heat and sound insulating properties. We are talking about Isoplat plates, which every year become more and more popular in Russia and in the CIS countries.

Basic material information

ISOPLAAT (IZOPLAT) is a wide range of insulating materials designed for thermal insulation and wind protection of the house. The range of products of the brand includes materials for insulation of floors, walls and roofs.

Performance characteristics of ISOPLAAT products

Environmental friendliness... In the manufacture of insulating material, adhesives and impregnations containing phenol are not used. The insulation contains no components with a carcinogenic effect.
Insulation from heat loss from the inside... Insulation material in terms of the degree of thermal conductivity is comparable to the popular mineral wool today. Therefore, external wall cladding will make the house more economical and energy efficient.
Insulation from outside heat... The outer wall cladding will make the house look like a thermos. As a result, in hot summer, the house will be cool and no air conditioning is required. The optimum temperature in the house is maintained for 15 hours, provided that both the walls and the roofing cake are insulated.

Sound insulating properties... Due to the structure with many micro cavities, fiber boards are distinguished by a high soundproofing ability, which increases in proportion to the increase in the thickness of the material.
Air permeability and hygroscopicity... Plates used as cladding allow air to pass through without compromising heat-insulating qualities. This quality significantly reduces the likelihood of mold growth inside the building.

Moreover, Izoplat, passing air from the outside, absorbs moisture from it, and then gives this moisture out. Therefore, it will be dry in houses with such breathable walls.

Bactericidal properties... During the production of boards, starch and sugar are naturally removed from the wood mass. As a result, the finished insulating material, due to the lack of a nutrient medium, loses its attractiveness for microorganisms.

Antiseptic impregnations are not used in the manufacture of this environmentally friendly material!

Ease of installation... Despite the high efficiency of the insulation system, the installation of boards is easier than thermal insulation of building objects with mineral wool. As a result, the installation can be done by hand and save on the services of professional installers.

It is important to remember that ISOPLAAT material is produced only by the trade and production association SKANO GROUP (Estonia).

There are no enterprises engaged in the production of these materials either on the territory of Russia or on the territory of other countries, except for Estonia. Therefore, if you are offered to buy non-Estonian Izoplat plates, know that this is a fake.

Are there any analogues? Izoplat products are not unique and there are plates with similar characteristics on the market. These materials are sold under the brands BELTERMO (Belarus) and STEICO (Poland).

Exterior cladding materials

For the exterior cladding of the house, Isoplat board material is used, made from coniferous wood shavings mixed with a type of wood resin - lignin.

The structure of lignin is similar to the structure of reinforced concrete, only here the function of reinforcement is performed by cellulose fibers. As a result, a board of wood origin, with a low density, is highly durable in comparison with other types of insulating building materials.

Illustrations What can be used for external wall insulation?

Wind protection plate... This insulation is used to protect the outer walls from strong cold winds. The material is installed with equal success over solid walls and laid inside the frame structures.

The slab is characterized by high bending strength, and therefore serves as a reinforcement for the rigidity of an insulated structure.

  • Thickness 12 mm, 25 mm.
  • Width 800 mm, 1200 mm.
  • Length 2700 mm, 2400 mm.

Heat insulating (soundproof) plates... This insulation is used to reduce the thermal conductivity of the outer walls. In addition to low thermal conductivity, the slab has a high sound-absorbing and dissipative ability.

Along with the cladding of external walls, the material is used to fill interior partitions.

  • Thickness 12 mm, 25 mm.
  • Width 1200 mm.
  • Length 2700 mm.

UNIVERSAL... These finishing modules have a milled tongue-and-groove lock along the perimeter. UNIVERSAL modules are a versatile solution for interior decoration and external sound, heat and wind insulation.

Due to the locking connection, the use of modules is characterized by the complete absence of cold bridges!

  • Thickness 25 mm, 50 mm.
  • Width 600 mm, 1200 mm.
  • Length 1800 mm.

ISOMODUL... This is another category of versatile material suitable for both wall cladding and for laying in subfloors and in roof structures. But unlike UNIVERSAL, there is no perimeter lock.
  • Thickness 50 mm.
  • Width 625 mm.
  • Length 1200 mm.

Installation of Izoplat in frame construction

How to insulate walls for a ventilated facade? Consider the sheathing technology using the example of a frame house. In this case, a 25 mm thick windshield plate is marked and cut in such a way as to cover the distance between two adjacent posts.

The plates are fastened with galvanized nails or anodized self-tapping screws, and both fasteners are hammered or screwed directly into the frame racks.

If windproof modules with a perimeter lock are used, then the cold bridges are closed due to the entry of the spike into the groove. If slabs without a tenon-groove connection are used, additional sealing of the seam will be required.

This can be done using polyurethane foam, which is blown into the seam, where it expands and polymerizes. Sealing with polyurethane foam will not only eliminate the appearance of cold bridges, but also increase the rigidity of the wall cladding.

After the outer part of the walls is tiled, the lathing is carried out for the installation of the ventilated facade. The choice of the method of lathing is determined by the type of finishing material that will be installed during finishing. For example, the photo shows a vertical sheathing for the installation of horizontal siding.

Since the facade will be ventilated, the crate must be assembled in such a way that a sufficient gap is formed between the finishing layer and the windproof material. To do this, when assembling the lathing, it is enough to use a 40 × 40 mm bar, installed in 50 cm increments.

The fastening of wooden blocks is carried out with self-tapping screws directly to Izoplat, the density of which will be enough to hold the batten with the facade cladding.

Insulation of external walls for plastering

Is it possible to insulate external walls with Izoplat for subsequent plastering? Yes, there is such an opportunity, but on one condition - you need to use plates with a thickness of 25 mm or more.

Wood-insulating board absorbs moisture like a sponge, but unlike conventional particle boards, which swell, the material subsequently releases moisture to the outside. Now let's imagine plaster laid on top of Izoplat. The slab is immediately moistened, but during the setting of the plaster, the insulation will release moisture, so that the finish layer will not crack.

Thermal insulation of external walls by frameless method is preceded by the preparation of the mounting surface. The wall is leveled and the relief is completely removed from it. Then the slabs are fixed to the wall with 75 mm dowel-nails.

At the same stage, a plaster mesh is attached over the layer of thermal insulation. Plastering is carried out on a grid in two layers: the first layer is rough, the second is finishing.

Let's summarize

Izoplat is a modern material, using which you can make your home warmer and more comfortable. If you still have questions about the technology of working with Isoplat insulating plates, ask them in the comments to the article.
