How to sheathe the walls of a block with a house inside the house. The exterior decoration of the house with a block house is a wonderful transformation. The block house is beautiful, but is it so practical?

Wood trim - such a cladding option will be popular at all times, experienced builders have no doubt about it. The fact is that wood not only makes the appearance of your home more luxurious and respectable - wood is characterized by high performance indicators, and what is most valuable is environmental safety. Facing a house with a blockhouse is a great way to ennoble your house made of concrete or brick, to give it natural, natural beauty.

Blockhouse - material parameters

For all external indicators the blockhouse is very similar to a log, but its performance is much higher.

Why today finishing the house with a blockhouse is so popular? There are many reasons for this, for example:

  • High level of strength;
  • Impressive fire safety;
  • The blockhouse has a relatively low weight;
  • Differs in resistance to harmful ultraviolet rays;
  • When using a blockhouse, you can forget about additional thermal insulation - wood conducts heat remarkably;
  • The material does not rot, it perfectly resists various pests;
  • The cost is moderate;
  • Installation is easy;
  • For many years, finishing the house with a blockhouse will retain its original properties (which cannot be said about many alternative solutions).

Blockhouse installation

Let's talk about what the installation of a blockhouse is.

Requirements for materials and base

In order for the service life of the new blockhouse cladding to be as long as possible, stick to some rules when doing work:

  1. Blockhouse boards should only be laid on dry walls. In addition, the base is pre-cleaned from fungus, mold, old plaster is also removed.
  2. Before installing the panels, they are dried. If the humidity is too high, the entire future cladding of the blockhouse may warp when it dries, that is, the finishing will have to be done anew.
  3. The cladding of a house by Block House - with your own hands or with the help of specialists, is done on the condition that only galvanized elements are used as fasteners. If you ignore this point, rust streaks will ruin the entire upholstery.

Preparation for styling

Before you tackle the cladding of the outside of the house, you need to wait a while - so that your new, recently purchased panels, slightly adapt to the climatic conditions of your future stay.

While the blockhouse is being "prepared", certain repairs should also be carried out, which include the following:

  1. First, a vapor barrier material must be installed - an affordable glassine or perforated film perfectly copes with this task. The vapor barrier when finishing with a blockhouse is overlapped; aluminum tape is also used in the work.
  2. Before sheathing the facade of the house with Block House, you should make a crate. It should be performed only from materials that have been pretreated with antiseptics. You can easily fix the timber to a wooden wall using self-tapping screws or simple nails.
If you need to finish brickwork with a blockhouse, you will have to make special holes under the frame dowels.

When placing the lathing bars, they are guided by the following rule: in the future a layer of thermal insulation must fit freely between them... As practice shows, a gap of 0.6 m is quite enough between the bars.

  • As part of the next stage, thermal insulation material is laid. Excellent thermal insulation under the blockhouse - fiberglass. On the market, this material can be found in the form of mineral wool or slabs. Minvata is produced today, including in the form of rolls.
  • Next, a waterproofing layer is laid. A waterproof film is ideal as this material. It is simply attached to the lathing bars - to make it easier, use a construction stapler in your work.
  • After all the above operations, one more crate should be made. That's all - now the decoration of the house with a blockhouse from the outside can be done without any difficulties with your own hands.

Blockhouse on the walls - finishing technology

If during work you decide that the material should be tinted, then it is advised in advance to paint the grooves and spikes of the board - it is possible that in the future its size will change, that is, stripes that have not been painted over will be visible. Often, materials that are used for (in gazebos, attics) are also tinted.

Blockhouse installation: instruction:

  • Laying the boards begins from the bottom row.

When compared with other finishing materials that are often used for cladding houses, it is customary to lay the blockhouse exclusively in a horizontal position.
  • Claymers are not often used when decorating a house with a blockhouse - this is due to their low reliability. Fastening is carried out with nails or self-tapping screws.
Since the blockhouse, which is chosen for finishing houses, has sufficient thickness, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws - nails only as a last resort. This is due to the fact that due to thermal expansion, the panels are often turned inside out. The nails, accordingly, are also pulled out of their nests. It is customary to screw self-tapping screws into the holes that are made in advance.

  1. In order for the blockhouse board to be securely fixed, it is best to attach it to two self-tapping screws at once. One should be near the groove, the other near the spike.
  2. The boards should be laid so that they are spiked up. This is due to the fact that moisture in the grooves easily accumulates. In addition, a small gap is left between the boards vertically and horizontally - this is necessary for ventilation.
  3. The next stage of finishing the house with a block house is the processing of gaps: here either putty is chosen, or wooden dowels are installed (attached to glue). The excess dowel is simply cut off, the edges are polished.
  4. When the work is done, the surface of the blockhouse is often treated with tinting compounds or special varnishes. This is done as follows: first one layer of the composition is applied to the boards, then grinding is done, then the composition is applied again - already in two layers.
  5. Video: cladding a house with a blockhouse is a small lesson in order to consolidate all of the above. Be sure to look, perhaps you will find answers to those questions that we did not consider. In fact, everything is not more complicated than - if desired, any person can figure it out, even with minimal construction experience.

How to arrange corners

When decorating an old house with a blockhouse, special attention should be paid to the upholstery of the corners. This problem can be easily dealt with - there are special corners for this, they are also called decorative.

However, this solution there are certain disadvantages.

  • Since the skirting boards will only come into contact with the protruding surface of the panels, large gaps will necessarily occur.
  • In this case, it is advised to install just a planed beam in the corner.
  • A cross section of 50 to 50 is quite enough.
  • Further, boards are simply attached to this bar.
  • Decorating houses outside with a blockhouse is ideal for decorating both internal and external corners.
  • The part of the timber that protrudes can always be rounded - the sheathing with this approach will look more aesthetically pleasing.

Blockhouse finishing price

Now let's talk about the cost of such work.

Of course, you can do everything with your own hands - there would be a desire. But, if you are in doubt about your own abilities, or there is no free time for such classes at all, you can always negotiate with specialists.

On average, the cost of finishing a house with a Block House is from 600 to 1000 rubles - for every 10 square meters.

Of course, material prices are not taken into account here - these are already separate costs.

When buying a blockhouse, it is best to look towards Finnish or American products. The long-term experience of the finishers suggests that such boards are of excellent quality, can be used for a longer period of time without any complaints, and the percentage of defective products is minimal.

Since decorating a house with a blockhouse is a task that not every family can afford, there is an alternative option - to sheathe the house with sadding, which imitates a blockhouse. Nowadays, metal and vinyl siding is in great demand - this material is ideal for decorating the facades of houses.

What are the virtues of vinyl as a cladding material:

  1. Extremely easy to maintain
  2. Fireproof;
  3. Not afraid of corrosion;
  4. Can always be repaired without complications;
  5. It weighs a little.

The pros of metal siding are:

  • The material does not burn;
  • It is very durable;
  • Environmentally safe, does not emit any hazardous substances into the environment;
  • Installation is easy, as is subsequent maintenance.

Among other advantages, finishing siding is not too expensive, has a very presentable appearance - the effect will be almost the same as finishing a house with a blockhouse. Another pros - the choice of colors is very wide. For example, you can easily find the following shades:

  1. Caramel;
  2. Banana;
  3. Pistachio;
  4. Cream;
  5. Eggplant, etc.

In addition, if you have chosen siding, please note: manufacturers accompany their products with accessories, including external and internal corners. Also, the set may contain initial strips - with the help of all this, wall cladding is done quickly, and at the same time very high quality.

To secure the material, watch the video: do-it-yourself vinyl siding house cladding. The effect is almost like a blockhouse, only cheaper and slightly faster.

Conclusion - finishing the house with a blockhouse: good or bad

The blockhouse is in great demand these days. Choose him for different merits, and also because this material is of very high quality imitation log.

Laying the blockhouse is easy, the material is unpretentious in maintenance, your house will look more natural under these panels.

There is only one drawback - high prices, not every family can afford such expenses from the budget. So, if you really like the blockhouse, but you cannot afford it, feel free to use siding under the blockhouse - there will be practically no difference in appearance.

Finishing with a block house inside the house is an opportunity to get a surface that will resemble a wooden frame. Installation work does not require professional equipment and the hiring of specialists, since the process can be performed independently. And cladding made of environmentally friendly products will create a special microclimate and comfort in the room.

Natural finishing material with excellent decorative properties will become a real decoration of any room. used for the entire interior or part of the room.

  1. The living room will become more spacious and more comfortable if the board has a light shade. You can complement such an interior with putty joints with a darker putty. A clogged tourniquet looks good.
  2. A bedroom with small dimensions is lined with a combined method. But if you want to decorate the room with a block house, large window openings or optional lighting should be provided.
  3. Other wooden details are a great addition to the interior. It can be a staircase to the second floor or an imitation of a ceiling support in the form of a natural log.

This option would be a suitable finish for the house, which has an external cladding that imitates a wooden frame.

Features of block house cladding

Often, during the work, many questions arise, therefore, in order for the interior decoration of the block house to pass without delay, it is necessary to deal with some of the nuances from the very beginning.

How to fix a block house

Fixing parts is a fairly simple procedure. Since the material is identical to the lining, they have the same installation principle. Fastening is carried out directly on the wall or lathing, the elements are connected due to the “thorn-groove” locking mechanism. In addition, self-tapping screws are used with which the fragments are stitched through.

Fastening panels with clamps is easier than using screws or nails

An alternative method provides for hidden fasteners: the parts are fixed using clamps (brackets put on from the groove end and attached to the base with screws). Such wall decoration is much preferable, since you do not need to hide the screws.

How to make an external and internal gusset

To make the inner corner of the block house attractive, you need to make an effort. You should take care of creating a joint in advance, because some methods involve the acquisition of additional material.

Ways of internal connection of parts:

Creating outer corners is a simpler procedure. It involves two main options: trimming the abutting parts on each side at 45 degrees and the use of an angled overlay.

Choosing a block house

There are several types of such material, but special requirements are imposed on the block house for interior work. Therefore, the traditional wood variety is predominantly used.

It includes the following options:

  • Elite class products. Such products are of perfect quality, they are free from any defects. This is reflected in the cost, which limits the use of the material.
  • Class A is lower in quality. The products have minor flaws. The price of the product is slightly less than that of the previous version, so the use of such a block house indoors is quite common.
  • The finishing material of class "B" has a lot of visible defects (knots falling out, cracks), so this option is recommended for auxiliary or storage rooms.

Cladding "Block House" is classified according to the same principle as standard wall paneling

On a note! The cheapest product is considered to be an imitation of a block house, made of vinyl and plastic, but such products are rarely used for interior work. Verandas and balconies are considered the best place for them if they do not have constant heating and sealing.

No matter how hard the manufacturers try, plastic panels are still very different from natural wood.

When choosing a wooden material, pay attention to several basic parameters:

Finishing types

The required amount of material depends on the choice of sheathing method:

  • Full veneer. This method allows you to achieve absolute naturalness. The block house for interior decoration has a semi-cylindrical front part, which imitates log masonry, so the parts are placed horizontally.
  • Combination. In this case, the cladding board is mounted only on certain walls or their sections. The rest of the space is taken by other materials: tiles with imitation of stone or brick, decorative plaster.

Combined cladding looks impressive and costs less

On a note! Regardless of the type of casing, products are purchased with a small margin. This will compensate for the percentage of defects that were not noticed during the purchase.

Finishing technology

The process is broken down into a series of sequential actions that must be started immediately after purchasing the material.

Product preparation

In order to ensure durability of the lining, the products must be prepared:

  1. Parts are unpacked and laid out on a flat surface. Placing them vertically is not allowed. This procedure allows the parts to acclimatize.
  2. All elements are evaluated: defects are identified, fragments with serious flaws are rejected.
  3. The material is impregnated with fire retardants and antiseptics. It is recommended to do this prior to installation, as this can be used to process whole parts.
  4. The products are left to dry completely.

If decorative wood staining is planned, then it is performed simultaneously with the application of protective impregnations

While the products are drying, the crate is erected. The frame is necessary to hide defects and curvature of the walls, so all racks are fixed in level. A wooden bar is used for work, its preparation must be carried out in advance according to the above principle. Fixation is carried out on self-tapping screws or corners, the elements are placed vertically with a step of 35 to 55 cm.

Further work is started only after preparation.

Mounting material

Installation of a block house is not the most difficult task, but it requires accuracy.

The final stage of finishing is considered to be the coating of the material with varnish or wax. This will give the surface a more beautiful look and protect the product from damage.

House block is one of the many types of lumber used for external and internal wall cladding. In appearance it imitates a natural log, the connection is made in a tenon / groove.

Depending on the quality of wood, it is divided into several varieties.

VarietyShort description

Signs of diseases and malformations of wood are not allowed, healthy knots can have a diameter of not more than 15 mm, the number is not more than 1 piece / m. n. Rotten knots are prohibited. Cracks can only be at the ends.

On a running meter, there can be up to 2 healthy knots Ø 20 mm, on the front side there can be shallow cracks no more than 30 mm long. Wormholes no more than 3 pcs. the entire length of the board.

Light knots are allowed without limitation in number and size, dead knots only captive. On the surface, there may be narrow cracks up to 50 mm long. Wood can have blueness and other natural malformations.

Due to the fact that the assessment of the quality of a block house largely depends on subjective factors, producers often offer mixed varieties in one batch. In such cases, lumber is designated AB or BC. A block house is made from several types of wood, the characteristics of lumber have a great influence on the cost.

Larch is used to decorate the most prestigious houses, it is often used when cladding a bath. The most common are coniferous lumber. The price, taking into account the type and quality of wood, ranges from 400 to 1600 rubles / m3.

There is no single standard for dimensions, each manufacturer works according to its own specifications, which depend on the capabilities of its equipment. The main requirement during the selection is to buy materials from only one manufacturer.

Before starting the installation, it is recommended to withstand the material a little, if you plan to sheathe the inner surfaces of the walls, then let it lie in the house unpacked for several days. The house block for exterior walls must also be unpacked and folded in a dark place.

The house block is installed only horizontally, in this regard, the crate is made vertical. For fixing the boards, several types of hardware are used.

The house block can be attached both to the spike and to the front surface. The second method is rarely used - the appearance deteriorates significantly, the imitation of a real bar is of poor quality.

Installation of a wooden block of a house with insulation

The most common option for cladding the facade walls of a building. It allows not only to significantly improve the appearance of the building, but also to increase its heat saving performance up to the regulatory standards. Cladding is used both during new construction and in the renovation of old buildings. The relatively low weight of the structure does not require complex measures to increase the bearing characteristics of the foundation; the technology can be used on all types of walls: brick, foam concrete, wood, etc.

Step 1. Purchase materials. If you have a large house, then it is recommended to buy a wide block of house, it looks great on it. Accordingly, for small buildings, buy narrow lumber, due to this, the size visually increases. Calculate the area of the walls, while buying, make a small margin of up to 5-7%.

Important. Remember that the house block has two widths: general and useful. The usable width does not include the dimensions of the tenon.

For the lathing under the insulation, bars are needed, the width should be the same as the thickness of the insulation.

It is better to insulate the wall with pressed or rolled mineral wool. The use of foam is undesirable and is allowed only as a last resort during the sheathing of various extensions. The thickness of the insulation is at least 10 cm, otherwise its effectiveness will be insufficient.

Prices for mineral wool

The slats of the main crate should be of the same height. The house block is fixed on a counter lattice; slats with dimensions of 20 × 30 mm are suitable for it. For example, consider a house with wooden walls; we will fix the elements with self-tapping screws or nails of the appropriate length. To fix the house block, small finishing studs, approximately 2 cm long, are also used. Finishing studs differ from ordinary ones in a small cap and in the presence of an anti-corrosion coating. There are options for making finishing nails from stainless alloys.

Mineral wool must be protected from evaporation of the building (if the walls are wooden), for this, vapor-proof non-woven materials are used.

Step 2. Saturate lumber with antiseptics.

If you want to paint the boards additionally, then it is better to do this even before the upholstery of the walls. Sometimes the corners and slopes of the house are sheathed with boards of a darker color - before starting work, they should be painted.

Use only quality exterior paints or varnishes for wood. It takes a very long time to repaint buildings, it takes a lot of time to remove the old layer. It is much more profitable to immediately buy, albeit expensive, but high-quality materials.

The house block should be processed three times. Prime for the first time, paint the second time and process the third time after installation. The lacquered house block looks very nice, it is better to use these materials.

Step 3. Cover the wall with a vapor barrier. The material is sold in rolls. Start fixing it from the bottom up, the overlap is at least 10 cm. You can fix it with a stapler. Be sure to seal the seams with special or ordinary tape. Make sure that there are no folds or sagging on the surface.

Practical advice. If you are not sure about the weather, then sheathe not the whole house at once, but in turn each wall. This will reduce the risk of surfaces getting wet during sheathing.

Step 4. Install the frame under the insulation. There are some nuances here. The fact is that in the future, a counter-lattice will be fixed to this main crate directly under the house block. This means that the distance between the vertical posts should not exceed 60 cm, take this parameter into account when choosing a heater. Most manufacturers produce products with such dimensions.

Pay close attention to the frame around window and doorways. In these places, you will have to fix the extra slats under the insulation with the expectation that they will come in handy during the creation of the counter-lattice.

The first frame needs to be vertically aligned exactly. How it's done?

  1. Check the position of the walls with a plumb line. Unscrupulous builders can overwhelm them a little, if such a problem is found, then the plane will have to be leveled due to the linings under the slats. Or vice versa, in some places, cut them under a cone.
  2. At a distance of no more than 10 cm from the corners, fix the extreme rails, check their horizontalness again. We recommend using a plumb line, the level at a high height of the house can make noticeable errors. Pull the ropes up and down between them.
  3. Make markings for the rest of the slats. We have already mentioned that it is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the glass wool and the permissible distances for fixing the block house.
  4. Fix the slats to the wall one at a time. First attach it to the wall, if necessary, reduce the thickness. Next, you should proceed depending on the wall, everything is fine - fix it, there are problems - align the slats with linings. Using this algorithm, collect the entire crate for insulation.

The frame is easier to install on metal corners, special slots allow you to accurately position the elements vertically.

Step 5. Replace the glass wool. It should fit tightly between the battens of the crate, gaps are strictly not allowed. And not only due to the fact that the rate of heat saving will decrease. Where there is no glass wool, condensation will constantly accumulate. As a result, wooden structures are wet, even the most effective impregnations will not be able to protect them from damage for a long time. In addition, moisture will get on the glass wool and significantly increase the thermal conductivity.

For fixing glass wool, you need to use special compression cuffs (rondoli). They have a wide polyethylene sleeve and a self-tapping screw.

You can find recommendations to cover the front surface with a windscreen. Although none of the real professionals can say why this should be done and what positive effect will be obtained in the end. The insulation perfectly protects the block house cladding from wind and rain. But if you want, buy a windscreen and fix it with a stapler to the slats.

This completes the insulation work, start sheathing the outer walls of the house. Do not postpone further work for a long time, if it rains, then securely cover the surfaces with plastic wrap.

Prices for various types of bars

Wall cladding with block house

Step 1. Install the counter battens on the first main crate. This is now easy to do, all battens are in the right position. We have already mentioned that 20 × 30 mm slats can be used for the counter-lattice.

Step 2. Hit the line of the first row. This is a very important point, mistakes made are difficult to correct. Especially if you do the corners in a professional way. We will describe the methods of finishing the inner and outer corners a little below. The line can be made with a laser level. If not, then use ordinary water. It is much easier to work with it, in addition, the possibility of error is completely excluded.

Step 3. Cut the protruding ends of the battens along the bottom line.

Important. When you close up the lower and upper parts of the cladding, be sure to leave air vents for natural ventilation of the structure.

Step 4. Place the first board exactly along the line and secure it with studs. They will have to be driven in from both sides of the house block. At the bottom in the groove, and at the top in the thorn. Drive in the nails at an angle, work carefully, do not allow the spike or groove to chip.

Step 5. After the first row is done, continue laying in the same way. Often the length of the wall is longer than the length of the house block. How to deal with joints? There are two options.

  1. Simplest. Place the joints on the same vertical line. At the ends of the board, nails can be driven into the front surface, their length should be 2 cm longer than the thickness of the boards. In the future, a vertical board about 20 mm thick and 10-15 cm wide is nailed to the joint. It can be varnished or painted in a dark color. All corners of the building, platbands and slopes are finished with the same boards. Advantages: work is simplified and accelerated. There is no need to precisely adjust each joint, to remove the dimensions of individual pieces of the block house. Disadvantages - it is clear that the work was done by a fake master.
  2. The hard way. The joints should not be placed on the same line, but in a checkerboard pattern. The house becomes much more attractive, but it will take longer to work: all the cuts must be perfectly fitted, each piece of the house block is individually adjusted in length.

House after assembly house block

Now we should separately talk about finishing external and internal corners. There are also two methods here. Simple - the house block is fitted end-to-end, and the corners are clogged with ordinary planed boards. It works quickly, no skill is required. The disadvantage is that it is not very beautiful, and to put it mildly, the facade walls only vaguely resemble natural timber. The question is, why buy an expensive house block in order to end up ruining the appearance of the building? We will tell you what real professional builders do.

Interior corner finishing

We warn you right away that you will have to lose a lot of time, but the result will please you.

Step 1. Install the boards on one wall of the inner corner all the way up. Monitor their position at all times. If in simple methods it is allowed to level out the horizontality due to a slight displacement of the house block at the joints, then this option requires special accuracy in the performance of all work.

Step 2. Make a template. It is made from pieces of thin plywood, fiberboard or thick cardboard. The length of the template should be equal to the width of the house block, the width of the template should be within 10 cm. Cut a rectangle of the correct shape from a piece, attach it to the end of two boards so that the line of symmetry of the template is located exactly at the junction of the boards. Using a pencil on the surface, draw the profiles of the front parts of the house block. As a result, you should end up with something similar to the letter M.

Step 3. Flip the board over with the convex face down, place the template on the flat back, and copy the outline. Make sure that the sharp ledge is located exactly in the middle of the board.

Step 4. Use an electric jigsaw to carefully cut the outline. The front side of the house block is semicircular, it is rather difficult to keep the board motionless. You can make a special device with a recess along the radius of the board, if you don't want to do this, then use various materials at hand to fix the position of the board.

Step 5. Place the board at the place of the upcoming joint. It will not be possible to fit the connection the first time; you will have to do it in two stages. If you cut the profile for the template correctly, then the gaps in the joint will not exceed 3-4 mm, but they should also be eliminated.

Step 6. Insert the prepared workpiece and the tenon, slide it all the way into the sheathed surface of the wall.

Step 7. With a sharpened pencil, draw a new, more precise outline. To do this, the pencil must be pressed along its entire length to the front of the profile and slowly move it along the surface of two blocks of houses. The tip of the pencil at this time should draw a line on the workpiece. With this simple operation, it will be possible to take the exact dimensions to fit the inner corner.

Step 8. Place the board again on a level place, keep it steady. Using an electric surface grinder, remove excess parts from the end of the house block. Working with a sander is easy, but noisy and dusty.

With a fine sandpaper, remove the burrs from the front side. You can take the exact dimensions of the boards along the length only after adjusting the connection in the corner, do not forget about this. Practice shows that already at the 5-6th connection experience appears, the work goes faster. It must be remembered that materials from well-known manufacturers should be purchased for such cladding. The thickness, radius of bulge and width of the boards must be the same. Unfortunately, not all woodworking companies can meet high quality requirements.

That's all, we assure you that the connection will be perfect. Of course, it will take a lot more time.

Important. Be sure to re-soak the ends of the fitted boards with antiseptics. This applies to all cutting cases, not just corners.

Finishing outside corners

The prerequisites for house cladding are the same - perfect alignment of the rows. If for the inner corners of the plane the connection of the house block on the adjoining walls occurs along the line of symmetry of the board, then the position of the locks for the outer ones should be at the same level.

The connection is made by sawing the ends at an angle of 45 °. Depending on the parameters of the facade walls, this angle may increase or decrease slightly. There is no need to measure very accurately. There may be a gap on the back side at the junction, the main thing is that it is not on the front side. Further, everything is unchanged - remove the burrs and protect the ends from rot.

Corners docked at 45 °

We recommend using such a professional method of joining in the corners when decorating the interior of the house. If outside it is allowed to use multi-colored boards to close simple connections, then designers prohibit their use during interior decoration.

House block as a finishing material is used in the construction industry relatively recently. It is a finishing board with a flat back and a convex front profile. On the one hand, such a board has a groove, on the other - a thorn. With the help of these elements, the material is joined. Dried wood with a moisture content not exceeding 15% is used as a raw material for the manufacture of a block house. Consider all the features of the application of this cladding.

The main types of wood from which the block house is made are larch and pine. Each of these breeds has its own advantages.

  1. Pine material is more durable and has better waterproofing qualities due to the presence of resins in the wood.
  2. Larch finishing boards are favorably distinguished by the fact that, under the influence of moisture, they not only do not lose their positive performance, but also become much stronger. In terms of density, larch can be compared to oak wood. Pine in this respect is inferior to this species.

Thanks to the use of natural materials, finished block house boards have a number of positive properties. The advantages of decorating a house with a block house are as follows:

  • resistance to deformation;
  • environmental Safety;
  • long period of service;
  • resistance to fungus;
  • attractive appearance;
  • the material is not susceptible to cracking as a result of exposure to high temperatures;
  • ease of installation technology;
  • affordable cost.

It should also be remembered that the vapor permeability of the house block is rather low. Therefore, finishing with this material is recommended in those houses where the owners live on a permanent basis. If the house is regularly heated and cooled, then there is a risk of moisture accumulation under the sheathing. This will have a negative effect on the condition of the walls.

Varieties of block house

House block is classified according to graying types:

  • Category A material;
  • block house of category B.

Transitional types such as A / B and B / C can sometimes be found on the market. Let's consider the features and characteristics of each category.

  1. The highest quality indicators are distinguished by the material belonging to group A. Such boards can have healthy knots not affected by rot, but no more than 5 units per board. The following is also allowed:
  • the presence of thin cracks, no more than 30 cm in size;
  • resin pockets no more than 5 cm;
  • subtle defects such as roughness and slight indentations.
  1. Category B material has fewer quality requirements. On the boards, resin pockets can be present in unlimited quantities. It is also allowed:
  • the presence of knots, but not more than 3 units per product;
  • cracks;
  • hairiness;
  • fringe up to 30%.

Features of the interior decoration of the premises

House block is a versatile finishing material that is suitable for both external and internal cladding of a room. Due to its performance characteristics, such a surface is both a decorative finish for a house and a heat-insulating material.

So, to mount a house block, you will need the following set of tools:

  • house block boards;
  • bars;
  • antiseptic;
  • brush;
  • level;
  • hammer;
  • saw;
  • sandpaper;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • drill.

Preparatory stage

Before installation, the house block must undergo certain processing.

  1. First, the boards should be laid out on a free surface and left in this state for several days. Thus, there is a kind of "acclimatization" of the material, which will further reduce its shrinkage.
  2. Next, using a paint brush, you need to apply an antiseptic preparation to the surface of the boards, not forgetting to process the grooves and spikes.
  3. After the first treatment, various irregularities and roughness will become more noticeable on the material. They need to be removed with sandpaper.
  4. Then a second layer of antiseptic should be applied. As a result of these actions, the material will be protected from the negative effects of ultraviolet rays. Antiseptics of various colors and shades can be found at specialized points of sale.

House block fixing process

For interior decoration, narrow boards are used, the width of which ranges from 80-90 mm. The installation process itself takes place in the following sequence of actions:

  1. A frame is mounted on the wall from boards, slats or beams, which are located every 50 cm.
  2. House block boards are laid on top of this structure. If the room has high ceilings, it is recommended to start installation work at the top. Because at the bottom it is much easier to adjust the width of the material.
  3. For finishing the block house inside the house, self-tapping screws or special galvanized clamps - clamps are used. When using a cleaimer, one part of this element must be bent into the "groove" of the board, and the other must be attached to the crate with a screw. The use of a cleaimer has a definite advantage. In this case, there is no need to use nails or screws. This virtually eliminates the risk of damaging the panel.
  4. After the installation is completed, the kleimers are hidden with the help of platbands or baseboards.
  5. When fixing the panels with self-tapping screws, it is necessary to first make a hole in the board corresponding to half of its thickness.
  6. Then a screw is inserted into this hole. This method has a certain drawback - the likelihood of damage to the panels and the occurrence of cracks.

Exterior decoration using block house

Exterior decoration of a wooden block house is carried out using wide boards, the width of which varies from 130 to 230 mm. Installation is carried out on the crate. If it is necessary to insulate the house, an insulating material is laid between the slats of the frame.

Important! Special attention should be paid to waterproofing, since moisture will accumulate under the finishing material. It is also necessary to perform a vapor barrier. This moment can be missed only if the surface to be veneered is made of beams. This material tends to be compared in terms of humidity with a block house, and the vapor barrier layer will create an obstacle to the elimination of moisture.
The external facing of the block house is carried out taking into account the following requirements:

  1. In the process of external finishing work, it is recommended to use metal clamps, since in this case the house block has a significant width, as a result of which it is heavy and massive.
  2. Fastening to the lattice is carried out using self-tapping screws according to the “thorn-groove” system.
  3. The front of the boards must be reinforced. To do this, holes are drilled in them with a drill, after which a connection with the lathing is made by means of a screw.
  4. To give the finish an attractive look, you can hide the screws with the help of wooden plugs, which are attached to PVA glue.

When finishing with a block house, you can encounter certain difficulties:

  1. In particular, there may be problems with joining the boards at the corners of the house. To solve this problem, the construction industry offers special skirting boards and corners. However, even when using them, it is not always possible to successfully fit parts of the finishing material. In this situation, the best option would be to drive out the corner walls, and then hide the joint with a lining.
  2. Another problem can arise during the installation of the last board. It will need to be adjusted for certain parameters and cut off. In this case, the situation can be corrected with a wooden plinth.
  3. Also, the complexity can be caused by door and window openings, for the decoration of which only special platbands must be used. These elements will not only solve decorative problems and hide cracks, but will also prevent moisture and cold from entering the room. Installation of such platbands is carried out using glue, screws or nails. In this case, it is necessary to use only elements made on the basis of galvanized metal. If you use ordinary nails or self-tapping screws for this purpose, when moisture gets in, they will rust, which in turn can cause rotting of wood panels.

Final work

After a certain period of time, the house block changes its color and darkens. In order to keep the finish in its original color, the panels must be protected with a protective agent. For this purpose, you can use a wax-based varnish or oil. The effectiveness of the varnish application remains in doubt, because there are two opinions. According to the first, varnished wood is well preserved. However, some craftsmen argue that the varnish is still unable to prevent the blackening of the wood material.

The color of the material changes slightly under the influence of wax oil. The ingredients in this product prevent the formation of stains on the wood and make it more resistant. The oil coating should be renewed every 3-4 years. You can also protect the panels by applying ordinary paint. In this case, the layer should be renewed every 5-7 years. Each of these funds must be applied primarily to the locking system and the end parts of the boards. It is also possible to process the panels before installation.

Conclusion

Block house is an innovative finishing material with a sufficient number of advantages. This material will give an aesthetic appearance to the house for a long time, since it has a long service life and does not deform as a result of various mechanical influences. And what is important, it is safe for health, as it is made from ecological raw materials. Block house panels are suitable for both interior and exterior decoration. And the process of decorating a house from the outside with a block house is simple and easy.

Most of us would love to live inside a log house. Natural material always brings only pleasant sensations with it. But not everyone can afford such a structure. Perhaps finishing with a block house inside the house will be able to partially compensate for this gap.

What is it?

House block is a completely natural finishing material. By its design features, it resembles a wooden lining. The individual elements are interconnected using a thorn-groove mechanism. The difference is the size, as well as the convex front side, which resembles a rounded log in appearance.

Advantages and disadvantages

House block is a building material of natural origin, therefore, the main advantages follow from this:

  • Non-toxic. High environmental friendliness is explained by the fact that wood lends itself to the process of drying and processing with a mechanical tool. Additionally, no impregnation is applied that could harm a person.
  • High thermal insulation properties. Although the block house cannot be used as insulation, the material is still an excellent insulator that makes it possible to close cold walls.
  • Additional soundproofing.
  • Ease of installation. Thanks to the well-thought-out design, the installation does not cause any complaints or special difficulties. The main thing that will be needed is to set the level correctly initially.
  • The lightness of the material.
  • Nice appearance. You can't argue with that. There is no artificial backing or texture here.
  • Good combination with other finishing materials.

The negative aspects are:

  • High degree of flammability. In order to reduce the likelihood of fire, it is necessary to process the finished lining using special compounds.
  • Susceptibility to deformation. Even a slight impact during installation or use will leave a dent.
  • Insufficient vapor permeability. In the absence of well-designed ventilation, mold and mildew can form under it.

How to choose

What you choose will depend on your specific conditions and needs. First of all, you will need to pay attention to:

  • the width of the board;
  • type of wood;
  • type of wood.

For interior decoration, a house block with a smaller size is usually used than for exterior. The width is 8 or 9 cm. It is this size that makes it possible to visually expand the room. If you use larger boards, which are usually used for facades, you may feel cumbersome and uncomfortable.

Note! The type of wood from which the facing material is made directly determines in which rooms it is better to use it. For example, if you plan to sheathe a bath or steam room, then it is better to choose deciduous trees. They do not contain resins, which, when heated, can protrude and cause burns. Also, this species has a lower heat capacity, which allows you to feel comfortable. For ordinary rooms, conifers are suitable.

Variety division is as follows:

  • A knot-free material with an even structure, without any defects, is an elite material. It is quite rare and is used to decorate residential premises in expensive mansions.
  • With a small number of knots - grade A. This option is not much inferior to the elite one and is also suitable for any interior decoration.
  • A block house, which has a large number of knots and some irregularities - grade B. It is usually used for steam rooms and saunas, as well as for exterior decoration. This allows you to reduce the cost of the final project.
  • Grade C is the most unpresentable and little-demanded. But still, in some cases it is used to decorate various outbuildings and storage rooms.
Note! It's good if you have the opportunity to see the conditions in which the material was stored before buying. If the warehouse had high humidity and temperature changes, then this can lead to the fact that after complete installation you will receive warped walls. Examine the packaging - it should not be torn or dirty.

Finishing types

  • Fragmented. Implies covering one or more walls, but not the entire area of the room. With this option, the house block can be combined with other decorative elements: tiles, clapboard or embossed plaster.
  • Complete. All walls of the room are sewn up with a block house.

In the first option, it is enough to simply calculate the area of the site that needs to be sewn up. In the second option, you will need to calculate the area of each wall, and then add them together to get the final result. The shade of the wood can be slightly changed to create a special atmosphere inside the premises. This can be done with varnish or additional impregnations.

Note! When purchasing material, keep a stock of 10%. This approach will subsequently help to avoid material shortages, as well as eliminate additional transport costs. In the worst case, sometimes there is no possibility of purchasing a small amount of cladding, which was not enough.

Preparatory work

We have already calculated the amount of material that we need. Now it is important for us to analyze the availability of the tool:

  • miter or hand-held circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • belt sander;
  • building level or laser level;
  • marker or pencil;
  • hammer;
  • roulette.

In addition to the tool, we will need boards in order to complete the lathing, screws and dowels, as well as connecting elements for the house block, corners and a baseboard. For the lathing, you can use bars of 30 × 30 cm or 30 × 40 cm. You will also need to buy an antiseptic impregnation.

Note! Be careful when choosing wood for lathing. It should be well dried. If it is wet, then this can subsequently affect the entire structure after its installation.

Material preparation

After the house block has been purchased, it must be properly prepared so that it lasts for the longest possible period of time.

  • The material must be brought home and placed in the room where the finishing is planned. It is better to take it out of its packaging and leave it so that it can acquire the temperature and humidity of the room. You must do the same with the board for the lathing.
  • Before any manipulations, once again carefully inspect the material for defects, as well as living creatures that may be in the wood.
  • The next step will be the processing of wood with an antiseptic and anti-flammable composition. This must be done both for the house block itself and for the lathing bars. Choose your ingredients carefully. In some cases, seeping through the cracks of the knots, it leaves yellow streaks, which then have to be removed with a grinder.
  • While the material is drying, you can evaluate how smooth the walls are. To do this, you can take a large rule, lean the level against it and walk along the entire plane of the walls. You can do it in a different way. With the help of a laser plane builder, we send a beam that should go parallel to the wall, from this beam we measure the distance to the wall using a tape measure. If necessary, you can apply some marks that will help with the installation of the battens.
Note! Always take material from the same batch of the same manufacturer. Wood from different batches may differ in structure or color, which will be noticeable when the whole structure is ready.

Mounting

The material has already settled for a sufficient period of time, the level of the walls has been measured, you can proceed with installation.

  • We cut two battens for the lathing to the required size. They must be mounted in two opposite corners of the wall. This must be done for each plane if sheathing of the entire room is planned.
  • Using the level, we determine once again whether there is a difference and where it is larger. If the wall sticks out a little from below, then the fastening will need to start from here and vice versa.
  • Using a punch, we drill a hole in the wall and insert the dowel. Using a drill, we make a hole in the bar so that it can be pressed more easily. We fix one part.
  • Next, using a level, we expose the vertical plane of the board and fix it to the wall with the second end. If necessary, you can make wooden lining.
  • In the same way, we install the board at the opposite end of the wall.
  • Next, we stretch a strong twine between the two boards. She will serve as a level for us. On it, we will be able to set the rest of the bars much faster. The distance between them should be 50‒60 cm.
  • The lathing should be perpendicular to the future facing.
  • A gap is formed between the block house and the wall, in which it will be possible to lay insulation, if necessary.
  • Installation can be done both from bottom to top and from top to bottom. Before starting the installation, it is advisable to measure the distance and divide it by the number of strips that will be installed. If trims remain, it is better to shorten the upper and lower planks to the same size so that there is a certain symmetry.
  • The first plank is being tried on. With the help of the level, its plane is exposed. After that, it is firmly fixed. This can be done using special brackets - clamps, screws or nails. It is better not to use nails in damp rooms; if the wood is deformed, they can easily be ripped off. You need to screw the self-tapping screw into the groove at an angle of 30‒45˚. To do this, it is better to pre-drill the hole with a smaller drill. The head should be recessed so that it does not interfere with the spike of the next board.
  • Each subsequent strip is inserted with a spike into a groove and knocked out with a rubber mallet or a hammer through a block so as not to damage the material.
  • If along the way there is a need to join several planks together, then use a special panel. But there is also another way. To do this, you will need to cut the end parts of the parts at an angle of 30˚ to the back. Then the junction points will be practically invisible.
  • Docking corners can be done using special strips. This method is the easiest. But there is another one that looks much more beautiful. If you are joining the outer corner, then you will need to wash down each board by 45˚ and join closely. If this is an inner corner, then you will need to make a stencil that will resemble a flying seagull in shape. It should be two semicircles that converge towards the middle. Using this sample, we transfer the lines to the board, which we will cut off with a jigsaw and try on. She shouldn't go in tight. Now, with the help of a pencil, we draw a contour along two boards, to which there is an abutment. We clean off excess material with a grinder and join.
  • It is very important to leave a gap of 1 cm from the floor and 5 mm from the ceiling. These gaps are necessary for ventilation and for possible material expansion or building shrinkage.
  • The ends of window and door openings are sealed with corner strips.
  • For final processing, you can walk with a sander. Further, the surface is covered with varnish or stain.
Note! If the installation of the house block is carried out in a bath or steam room, then it is also necessary to lay a vapor barrier. This is very important to prevent moisture build-up, which will cause the wood to swell and mold.

Block house decoration can also be carried out inside a wooden house, which is built of profiled timber. Doing all of the above operations with your own hands is not so difficult. The main thing is to be patient and take your time.
