Do-it-yourself door stop. Making a limiter for the door with your own hands. Classification of door stops

No matter how beautiful the door is, it acquires its reliability and functionality only after attaching door fittings: canopies, locks, peepholes, etc. There are no minor components here. The absence of at least one structural element (for example, if there is no door stop) weakens the practicality and reliability of the unit.

Often, experts call door stops limiters. However, most buyers of interior door systems are unaware that there are such latches.

Door stoppers are mainly used to limit door leaf movement. Such latches prevent self-opening or, conversely, closing the door.

This device is especially valuable when there are small inquisitive children at home who strive to explore everything everywhere. The limiters will fix the position of the door, so the sash will not pinch the fingers of a curious crumb.

In addition, experts strongly recommend the use of latches in residential areas, where people with disabilities are often located. And in addition, these statute limiters are valuable helpers for pet owners: paws, tails and other parts of the body of pets will be safe and sound.

  • to rationally plan free space;
  • to protect the canvas and the adjacent wall from mechanical damage;
  • to fix the sash in a certain position, for example, when you need to carry some bulky things through the doorway;
  • the limiter serves as an additional means of hacking.

By the way, door stops can also perform a decorative function. Modern manufacturers produce limiters in a unique and overnight original design, so such stops can be a valuable addition to the interior.

Clamps can be used in apartments and private houses, office buildings, shopping centers and other public places. In fact, limiters can be applied almost anywhere.

Classification of door stops

All locking elements can be conditionally divided into the following groups:

  • at the location (wall, floor and door);
  • taking into account the principle of operation (simple devices, mechanical devices, as well as magnetic stops).

Moreover, door stops differ among themselves in the material of manufacture, size and design.

Having understood the features of each such latch, it is easier for the buyer to make the right choice. And besides, this information is very important for those who will do the installation of the stops with their own hands.

Floor fittings

As the name of this latch suggests, it is installed on the floor. Such stops differ in their functional purpose. Some of them are used to hold the canvas in a certain position. Other elements control the degree of door opening.

With the right choice of such fittings, it completely merges with the floor covering, therefore it does not spoil the appearance of the door structure and does not distract from the main concept of the room design. In fact, floor clamps are a universal solution. However, they have a "contraindication".

Experts do not recommend placing such stops on a floor covered with laminate. Fixing this limiter on the laminate deprives the floor covering of the ability to respond to changes occurring in the room: a jump in air humidity, temperature fluctuations, etc. Due to the installation of these fittings on a laminate flooring, the floor covering may swell and crack.

All floor clamps can be divided into the following groups:

  • stationary fixtures;
  • mobile devices.

Representatives of the first group provide for installation in a specific place. These, for example, can be simple web clamps equipped with a soft plate that absorbs shocks and prevents the web from opening more than it should.

In addition, there is a magnetic door stop. In this case, the locking element is installed on the floor, and a metal plate is mounted on the lower part of the sash. When the door is opened, the metal plate is magnetized to the stopper, due to which the leaf is fixed in a certain position.

Mobile clamps can have the most bizarre shape. For example, figurines, soft toys, wedges with a sliding base, etc. Such stoppers, if desired, can be moved to another location. And besides, mobile clamps are easy to make with your own hands.

Wall restraints

The wall door stop consists of two elements: one part is attached to the wall, and the second element is installed on the door leaf. Such accessories vary according to the principle of operation.

There are latches that control the opening of the sash (they can be simple or magnetic), as well as slamming stops.

The latter, as a rule, are attached to the platband located above the doorway, which eliminates the need to drill the surface of the door. And besides, such limiters have two positions: passive and active (in this case they are at an angle of 90 degrees).

Overdoor clamps

All door stops can be assigned to one of these groups:

  1. C-shaped products made of soft plastic, rubber or other similar material.
  2. Stops, which are a metal structure that are used to support the canvas in the desired position.

Production material

The cost of stops largely depends on the material used in their production, as well as the mechanism that ensures the fixation of the web.

Most often, the floor, wall and door stop is made of steel, aluminum, plastic and wood. However, there are also soft limiters: they are made of rubber or even fabric.

In addition, it is important to choose the right color for the latch: it must either match the door hardware, or the same shade as the walls (flooring).

When choosing a stop, consider the conditions in which this limiter will be used. For example, if the latch is selected on the door that is installed at the entrance to the children's room, it is better to give preference to fittings made of soft material.

If the stop will limit the movement of a heavy interior door, for example, made of solid oak, it is better to choose metal stoppers. But magnetic latches are a justified choice when you need to securely fix the canvas in the open position.

Mounting Features

Do-it-yourself installation of a door stop will take place without surprises if, before starting installation work, the craftsman carefully studies the accompanying instructions that came with the product.

Chain as door stop.

In general, the installation of the latch can be represented by the following steps:

  1. The tool needed to perform the work is being prepared.
  2. The location of the stop is determined. To do this, you need to open the door and fix the canvas in such a position that the distance between the sash and the wall is at least 5 cm. And yet, when determining the distance from the wall to the canvas, you must also take into account the size of the handle installed on the canvas.
  3. Mark up (you will need a construction pencil for this).
  4. Drill holes for fasteners.
  5. Attach restraints.

If a brass retainer is installed, so that the product does not lose its beautiful appearance, it should be coated with a layer of varnish.

As a rule, installing a door stop with your own hands does not take much time: even a novice home master can complete this operation in less than an hour.

The door of the toilet is "held" by a toy elephant so that the cats can safely enter and exit on their cat business. At the same time, so that everything was not wide open, but still there was at least some illusion of their toilet secret. The door to a small nursery is held by a typewriter or a husband's slippers when he is not at home ... .. Familiar? Yeees…. And I noticed this not only at home. Often, to hold the door, any objects that fall under the arms and legs are used.

In fact, there is a very simple and beautiful solution that you can do with your own hands and this “foreign fruit” is called a door stopper (from the English doorstopper or doorstop, which means door stop or door stop). Yes, yes… google it! You will see a lot of pictures and different types of stoppers. Choose - I do not want. I managed to make a stopper, which not only stopped the door so that it would not close, but also prevented it from slamming if suddenly a draft came from nowhere. The second stopper is for cats and their trips back and forth, so that the door is always covered, but not closed. Now I don’t have slippers and elephants holding the doors in the house, but such beautiful things!

but it was like this :)

So. what did i need?

The first stopper to keep the door from slamming shut.

  • Textile. I used thick cotton from Ikea. Size 45x20 cm + allowances. Two details.
  • Lightning. 15-18 cm. Needed in order to get, change the filling or wash the cover. You can do without it, manually sew it up - also quite an option.
  • Filler. Budget - pearl barley, dry peas, lentils, beans - whatever your heart desires, to your taste, so to speak. Even more budgetary - we collect sand or stones on the street with children or with a young man. True, stones - to wash, sand - to ignite in the oven, otherwise .... cats, dogs…..you know.

We sew the details around the perimeter, leaving the narrow one side not sewn up. Can be zigzag. Turned out, ironed the seams.

Next, you need to sew a zipper. Yes Yes. I have blue lightning. And not because I'm color blind, but because I had one in stock. And we sculpt beauty from improvised means? Well… that's why the lightning is blue. The main thing is to sew deeper and no one will see. Of course, you can go to specialized stores, buy everything in color and suit. But… I don’t have much time, so, as I always say, “We work with what we have!”

I liked the perl. It turned out that 2 kilos went into the mouth of the stopper like a black hole. To the touch, by the way, a very pleasant product turned out. Rustles, spills over there inside .... The husband put it under his neck and head and said that he would take it instead of a relax roller. The older child carries like a dumbbell and plays with a stopper “to the towns” in the corridor. In general, everyone in the family is happy about the appearance of a miracle in the house, each in his own way.

The second stopper "bag of gifts" was sewn in an hour, probably in total. The fabric is cotton and the lining is linen. Two rectangles - 25x42 cm + allowances. Two circles with a diameter of 13 + allowances. We sew a bag-bag, sew the bottom for the outer cover and for the lining. You can sew without lining, but with it the look is much more interesting. A heart and strings of twine are peeped somewhere. The filling is the same pearl barley. 1 kilo. In fact, you can make it smaller, the bag will be filled tighter and hold its shape better.

Like this! And you, believe me, you need this in the house. And now I need to sew a friend (I came to visit and she liked the idea) and two mothers-in-law, because at least I had decent slippers to prop it all up, and she had old, battered ones .... Not good oooo…. She may not need it, but I will still make a person pleasant! Bye everyone! 🙂

Probably, every person has encountered a problem when the door leaf slams loudly. In addition, when opening the door from hitting the wall, chips remain on it, which also do not decorate the room. To get rid of such problems once and for all, it is enough to buy and install a door stop. First you need to deal with the existing proposal, choose the type of limiter that is best suited in a particular case, and any home master can install it with his own hands.

What are door stops and locks for?

If you often hear the sound of a door hitting when you open it in your house, a door stopper will help solve this problem once and for all. It is a device that provides protection for doors, walls and nearby objects from chips and damage. This is a small detail, but it helps to significantly increase the life of the door leaf, as well as protect the walls from damage when the door is carelessly opened. By installing such a device, you will be relieved of the need to frequently change the decoration of the wall next to the entrance.

Without installing a door stop, opening the door may damage the wall or nearby furniture.

The door stop allows you to set the maximum opening width of the door leaf or reduce the speed of its movement. Some models securely fix the door in a given position, depriving it of the ability to open or close on its own. There is a fairly wide selection of such devices, which differ from each other both in shape and design, and in appearance.

Types of door stops

Door stops vary:

  • at the place of installation - they are floor, wall or door;
  • according to the principle of operation - there are ordinary, magnetic, vacuum and mechanical stops.

Since interior and entrance doors have different sizes and weights, different limiters are used for them. An ordinary person, faced with the problem of choosing such a device, may be confused by the available choice. To prevent this from happening, you need to navigate in the terms used:

  • stop - a device that limits the opening angle of the web, and sometimes fixes it when it reaches the end point;

    The stop allows you to fix the canvas in the desired position

  • bump stop - prevents the canvas from hitting a wall, furniture or other object that is in the way of opening the door;

    The chipper prevents the door leaf from hitting the wall

  • stopper - designed to fix the door in a certain position;

    The stopper allows you to fix the door in the desired position

  • overlay - does not allow the door to slam arbitrarily;

    The overlay does not allow the door to close arbitrarily

  • latch - fixes the canvas in the closed position. Some experts attribute such a device to locks, others to stops;

    The latch secures the door in the closed position

  • closer - in addition to ensuring smooth closing of the door leaf, it also limits the angle of its opening.

    The closer limits the opening angle of the door leaf and ensures its smooth closing

Floor models

Floor door stoppers are installed directly on the floor covering and are divided into two types according to the type of their action:

  • holding the door leaf in a predetermined position;
  • controlling the degree of opening of the door.

According to the installation method, such limiters are divided into:

  1. Mobile or mobile. In specialized stores, such stops are presented in a wide range and can have a wide variety of designs: in the form of letters, toys, wedges, etc. Models that are worn on the lower edge of the door leaf have become widespread. Such limiters have an anti-slip coating, abut on both sides of the door and do not allow it to move in either direction.

    Mobile floor limiter can have a wide variety of shapes

  2. Stationary. Such models are mounted on the floor in a certain place and are intended for permanent use. They can be of several types:

When choosing a place for mounting a floor limiter, one must take into account the fact that it should not interfere with free movement, otherwise it is easy to injure the leg by hitting the latch rigidly screwed to the floor.

wall models

In those rooms where it is not possible or undesirable to fix the door stop on the floor (expensive parquet, natural marble floor or other unique coating), wall models are an excellent solution. Such devices are slightly more expensive than outdoor ones and come in several types:

  • in the form of a rod - they are an emphasis with a platform for mounting and a rubber shock absorber mounted on a rod, the length of which can vary from 5 to 15 cm. Before buying a wall-mounted model, you need to decide which wall you will mount it on. There is no difference for a brick, and if it is made of drywall, then it is necessary that the size of the fastening part be at least 10x10 cm. This will ensure a reliable fastening of the stop, and the wall will not break through from the impact;

    A conventional wall stop is a stop with a mounting platform

  • with a magnetic latch - they differ from the floor version only in the place of installation;
  • overlays. If you think that a wall-mounted shock absorber with a stem does not look very beautiful, you can install a pad under the handle. It is located on the wall opposite the door handle and is usually attached to double-sided tape, so you don’t have to drill the wall;

    To limit the opening of the door on the wall, they often mount an overlay under the handle.

  • with fixing the position of the door. In this case, the stopper is attached to the wall, and the hook is attached to the door. When the door is opened, the hook rises and the canvas is securely fixed in the open position. To close the door, such a latch must be unlocked manually.

    After opening the door, the hook securely fixes it in the open position.

Door fittings

Overdoor stops are installed directly on the door leaf, so the walls and floor are not damaged. Fastening is done with glue or self-tapping screws.

  1. The simplest is the tape stop. It is a strong tape, at the ends of which there are places for fixing it to the jamb and the canvas. In order for the tape limiter to serve for a long time, it is necessary to purchase models that have high strength and elasticity.

    The tape limiter has special platforms for fastening to the canvas and the jamb

  2. For an entrance door, a hinged stop would be an excellent option. During installation, the angle of stop relative to the floor must be observed. The best option is when it is 45 o, at a smaller angle, the mechanism may break.

    The folding stop is activated by pressing the foot, and in the retracted position it securely snaps onto the clip

  3. The retractable stop is made with a rod and a brake shoe. Its installation is carried out in a vertical position. You can also operate such a device with your foot, and in order to raise it, you will need to manually bend the side plate.

    Raise the retractable stop with your hands

    The sliding door stop allows you to fix the canvas at different points, their number depends on the number of cutouts in the groove of the device. A rod is fixed on the canvas, and the device itself is installed on the door jamb. Since this limiter is installed in the upper part of the leaf, it does not interfere with the operation of the door.

    The sliding limiter allows you to fix the canvas at several points

  4. Soft overlays. Protect the door from accidental slamming. Their use allows you to protect children's hands from the possibility of being squeezed by doors. To install such devices, simply put them on the door leaf.

    Soft pads are installed on the door leaf and protect hands from accidentally getting into the space between the door and the jamb

Anti-vandal restraints

There are models of limiters that allow you to protect the house from illegal entry. The simplest options can simply make a loud sound when in contact with the door leaf. More expensive models send an alarm signal to the security console or mobile phone.

Anti-vandal limiter allows you to protect the house from thieves

This type of limiters can be both floor and over-door. Floor models are available in the form of polymer wedges or other suitable shape. Overdoor stops are put on the door leaf and are also made of soft materials. The free-standing stops do not need to be locked in place, so they can be used anywhere and anytime.

Freely positioned stops do not require fastening and can fix the door in any position

Magnetic or vacuum stops

A feature of the magnetic limiter is that it not only prevents the door from swinging open at an angle greater than the specified one, but also ensures its fixation in the open position. A metal plate is installed on the canvas, and a magnet is placed on the limiter itself. To fix doors of different weights, you need to choose a magnet of the appropriate power.

Instead of a magnet, a vacuum lock can be used on such limiters. In this case, a rubber suction cup is installed on the door, which repeats the shape of the limiter. When opening the door, the suction cup is securely connected to the limiter and ensures that the door leaf is held open.

Vacuum stop keeps door open with suction cup

ball detents

Ball devices are designed to fix the door in the closed position and do not allow it to open spontaneously. These are small devices, one part of which is mounted in the door leaf, and the second - on the door jamb. These models are usually used on interior doors that do not need long-term locking. Due to the presence of an internal spring, the ball securely fixes the door, and after pressing the canvas, even a child can open it.

The ball lock securely holds the door closed, and it will not be difficult to open it if necessary

Installation of door opening limiters

Most often, floor or wall door stops are used, so we will consider the installation process using their example. To complete the work you will need:

Mounting the floor stop

Consider the installation of a conventional metal floor door stop. It can have a different shape, for example, in the form of a pin or a hemisphere, as well as different heights.

Work on the installation of the floor limiter is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Preparation of tools and inspection of the limiter assembly. Usually, the kit includes a screw and a dowel for fixing the stop, but if they are not there, you need to prepare the fasteners separately.

    Checking the complete set of the door stop

  2. Site selection and marking. For the correct choice of the installation location, it is necessary to open the door leaf so that it does not reach the wall or furniture by 3–5 cm. Don't forget to consider the size of the door handle. The place for the stop is chosen approximately in the center of the door. Mark the installation site and check again if everything is done correctly.
  3. Creating a hole. Using a drill, make a hole in the floor and insert a dowel into it. For concrete pavement, a hammer drill must be used.

    A hole is made in the floor into which a plastic dowel is inserted.

  4. Limiter installation. Install the door stop and fix it with one or more self-tapping screws. If the limiter has the form of a hemisphere, it must be turned so that the canvas is in tight contact with the rubber pad.

    Using a self-tapping screw, fix the limiter

To keep the brass floor stopper shiny, it is recommended to periodically open it with varnish.

Mounting the wall stop

If you want the limiter not to interfere with free movement around the room, you can install it on the wall. Installation of wall models is carried out in the same sequence as the floor options. The only difference will be that such a device is mounted on the wall, and not on the floor.

Repair of door opening limiters

A feature of door latches is that they have a simple design, so they have practically nothing to fail.

The main breakdowns of door stops will depend on the type of device:

  • failure of the rubber lining. If the rubber lining is damaged on the floor or wall model of the limiter, then it must be replaced;
  • weakening of the suction cup. If the suction cup is damaged in the vacuum limiter, then it will not provide reliable fixation of the web and it must be replaced;
  • damage to the stop for over-door models is eliminated by replacing such a device;
  • the weakening of the spring in the ball stopper leads to the fact that it cannot perform its functions. This device must be replaced.

There are quite a few options for making limiters for a door with your own hands. Each of them is worthy of attention, as it allows you to equip a stopper for the canvas with minimal cost and personal effort. Which method to choose depends on personal preference. It is worth considering the most popular options.

You can easily make a door stopper with your own hands

Functions and types of limiters

Installing a limiter is a necessary measure if the canvas can touch furniture when plowing. This is especially true if there is glass or mirrors near the passage. In this case, use floor, door stoppers or items that can replace them.

The stopper performs the following functions:

  • limiting the course of the canvas when plowing;
  • protection of the door and nearby objects from damage;
  • decorative addition to the interior.

With the help of the limiter, you can protect the door and nearby objects

You can make such a device with your own hands, despite the fact that such products are sold in many furniture and hardware stores. There are many options for execution, but it is worth noting the most successful of them.

soft option

The most interesting in execution is the soft limiter. Making such a product for the door with your own hands is not difficult. The principle of its manufacture is based on the creation of a tilde with synthetic filling.

In order for such a stopper to have sufficient mass, prepare sand, small pebbles or some similar materials in advance.

A soft limiter is hung on the handle on the side of the door into which it swings open. To do this, you need to provide for the presence of a special loop.

The design and coloring of a kind of doll is a personal matter for everyone. You can find ready-made patterns of patterns or draw your own version yourself.

The soft limiter additionally serves as an interior decoration

To sew such a stopper, you will need fabric, threads, pins and a synthetic winterizer or holofiber for filling. The volume of the doll should be sufficient to soften the blow. All parts are cut in duplicate. They are folded face to face and stitched, leaving a small area unsewn for filling. Each element is turned inside out, stuffed with filler and sewn up with a blind seam. Then you need to sew all the fragments together.

furniture limiter

The easiest option is to take a ready-made stopper. Such products can be found among furniture fittings. You can even use a limiter from an old cabinet.

Do-it-yourself installation of a furniture door stop is done using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. One part of the product is fixed on the box, and the second - on the canvas itself. In this case, the length of the rod can be adjusted, which allows you to choose the degree of restriction of movement of the door.

The easiest option is to use a ready-made furniture limiter

floor stopper

The best option for most rooms is a stationary floor stopper for the door. It can also be made by hand. At its core, this design is very simple, so you will need a minimal set of tools. Let's consider two options:

  1. Wood. Take a small bar, preferably round in cross section. Measure the required distance. You can make a stopper 3-5 cm high, or you can increase it to 10 cm. If a fine tree is used, then you need to immediately treat it with a stain of the desired shade and open it with varnish. At the same time, please note that the entire surface of the part must be carefully sanded. Then take a double self-tapping screw or stud and screw it in from the back side from the end. For installation, you need to choose a place on the floor, drill a hole, insert the dowel and drive the stopper there, gradually twisting it to the very end.
  2. Metal. The principle of creating such a limiter is the same as for a wooden model, but there are subtleties here. First you need to cut the tube of the desired size. A great option is stainless steel. For the top of the limiter, take a plastic plug. On the reverse side, fix the plate with screws. The installation principle is as follows: select a place on the floor, drill holes for the plate and fix it with screws.

Types of floor stopper for the door

In order for the edges of the door leaf not to beat off the limiter, additionally fasten elastic bands on it. For example, you can take plumbing volumetric gaskets.

A door stopper is a great option that allows you to protect the canvas itself and nearby objects from damage. In addition, it can become a stylish addition to the interior, especially if you do everything yourself, taking into account personal wishes.

You are tired of loudly slamming doors and impartial chips on the walls left by the door leaf, so it's time to purchase and install a door opening limiter. Next, we will analyze in detail the types of such devices, and finally we will show how to install a door stopper with your own hands.

Door opening limiters are quite diverse.

The stool pushed under the door and a homemade wooden wedge are slowly disappearing into history. Now the industry produces a wide variety of stops, which are sometimes difficult to understand.

Limiter classification

In fact, the door stop is one of the varieties of small fittings. Doors are divided into entrance and interior doors, the weight and dimensions of the canvases can vary greatly, respectively, and the stops on the door are different.

In addition, door stops can perform different, sometimes opposite, functions. It’s one thing when you need a stop so that the canvas doesn’t hit the wall, and it’s completely different when you need to protect children’s fingers from a door that doesn’t close at the right time.

But how to make the right choice, if often an ordinary person has a rather vague idea of what kind of mechanism he needs. First, let's go over the basic terms.

Original door stop design.

  • Stops - designed to limit the angle of the door turn, and sometimes fix the door leaf at the end point when in contact with the stop;
  • Chips - are needed to soften or prevent the impact of the door leaf on the wall or any other object, for example, furniture;
  • Stoppers - these structures must rigidly fix the canvas at a certain point. The most prominent representative of stoppers can be called a well-known chain;
  • Overlays - prevent the door from completely slamming, leaving a small gap between the jamb and the door leaf;
  • Latches are, in fact, a kind of lock, the latch fixes the door in the closed state. There is still no consensus among experts whether to refer latches to locks or still to stops;
  • Closer - as a rule, this is a limiter for opening the front door. The direct purpose of the closer is to ensure smooth closing of the doors, but there are models that allow you to fix the canvas open at a certain point.

Many modern closers can be adjusted locally.

Despite the variety of terms and countless models, all these designs are divided into 3 fundamental areas:

  1. Limiters installed on the floor;
  2. Limiters mounted on the wall;
  3. Limiters installed on the door itself.

Floor models

A floor stop for a door is perhaps the most reliable option, because the floor is static, it will not go anywhere, plus the price of most floor models, as a rule, does not “crawl out” beyond 200 rubles.

The color of the permanently fixed post-post should be in harmony with the overall design.

Metal stops-columns are stationary limiters that are rigidly attached to the floor. The height of such an emphasis ranges from 3 to 7 cm, the average cylinder diameter is 20 - 30 mm. In order not to "cripple" the door on the column there is a groove with a rubber or polyurethane seal.

With proper installation, the column itself does not threaten anything, but the seals will have to be changed periodically. In the residential area of an apartment or a private house, it is better not to put columns, since it is easy to stumble on them, but as a limiter for opening the front door, the column fits perfectly.

When choosing such a column, it is better to give preference to shiny and contrasting models. They are at least visible from afar and less likely that a person will stumble.

Semicircular door stop.

The semicircular door opening limiter looks like a quarter of a dissected ball with a shock-absorbing gasket. There is no fundamental difference in the operation of posts and semicircular stops, but when installing the latter, the installation angle must be taken into account so that the door leaf comes into contact with the rubber gasket and does not hit the metal.

The magnetic door stop keeps the door open.

A door stop equipped with a magnet is already a more functional design. A small magnet is built into the head of the stationary stop, and a counter metal plate is attached to the door, as a result, the door leaf is fixed when it comes into contact with the stop.

Of course, magnetic structures are not suitable for entrance doors, because the strength of the magnet is not enough to hold the canvas in gusts of wind, but in the room such stops work flawlessly.

Cork stops are only suitable for the corresponding design.

Cork, rubber and polyurethane stops are a variation of the same posts, the difference is only in the material. But before you put such an original emphasis, you need to think carefully, because a soft limiter is not a guarantee that you will not “beat off” your fingers about it, plus the cork is practically invisible on the carpet.

The ability to close the head of the stop in a latch mounted on the door jamb is quite a useful feature. Especially well, such devices have proven themselves on the front doors of offices, administrative buildings and shops, in general, wherever a simple latch can pop out by negligence or from a gust of wind.

The spring stopper is a good solution for temporarily fixing the door leaf.

The design solution is ingeniously simple: synthetic anti-slip "hedgehogs" are fixed on both sides of the flexible steel plate, you only need to slightly bend the plate and slide it under the doors.

Such a device is well suited for temporarily fixing doors, for example, if you need to bring furniture. With this emphasis, even if the door moves from an accidental push, expensive laminate or parquet will remain intact.

The wedge retainer is the simplest solution to the problem.

Wedge-shaped or as they are also called, mobile clamps are now made from different synthetic materials, but in fact these are the same wooden wedges that our grandfathers inserted under the doors, only the external surroundings have changed. Although synthetics must be given credit, such a door stopper does not slip on the floor.

The signal limiter can become the last bastion on the way of robbers. Cheaper models simply make a loud sound when the door leaf comes into contact with them, and the "advanced" stops silently send a radio signal to some kind of receiving device, for example, to a mobile phone or a security console.

wall models

Installing a door stop on a wall is an excellent solution for rooms where, for one reason or another, it is not desirable to fix the device to the floor, for example, expensive floor coverings, such as marble or natural parquet.

Classic wall stop for a door.

The cost of wall fixtures starts from 150 rubles, although this is not a lot, but still more than floor limiters.

The market leader here is a standard stop with a platform and a rubber shock absorber mounted on top of a metal rod. It is distinguished from the floor version of cork by the presence of a wider support platform and a stem with a length of 5 to 15 cm.

When choosing, you need to consider what material your wall is made of. There is no difference for monolithic brick or concrete walls, but for drywall you need to buy a device with a wide mounting platform (at least 100x100 mm), otherwise the GKL will simply break through from a point impact.

The simplest wall limiter with fixation on self-tapping screws.

The wall-mounted version of the magnetic device may differ from its floor-mounted "brother" only in the length of the stem, otherwise they are identical.

Often there is no way to fix the limiter on the floor, and rubber shock absorbers with a rod leave hard-hitting marks on the door leaf. In this case, a soft pad on the wall under the handle will help you.

Soft synthetics will smoothly absorb the blow, you don’t need to drill a wall to mount the stop, just stick the fixture on double-sided tape, and most importantly there are a lot of design options and choosing a model for your interior is not difficult.

There are in the line of wall fixtures and stops with a reliable lock. As shown in the photo below, the mechanism itself is attached to the wall with self-tapping screws, and the hook with the platform is screwed from the bottom end on the door leaf.

The principle of operation is simple: a rounded door hook, approaching the stopper, lifts the movable part and, thanks to the spring, the latch clings. The only inconvenience is that to release the doors, the latch will have to be pushed back manually.

Door fittings

The beauty is that if we are talking about wooden or plastic doors, then you only need a screwdriver to fix such a limiter, and in some cases you can get by with one glue. Plus the walls and floor will remain intact.

In folding metal stops, the base plate is screwed to the door leaf with self-tapping screws, but during installation, you need to carefully consider setting the angle of inclination of the limiter relative to the floor, an acute angle can cause the mechanism to break. The optimal slope is around 45º.

In addition, when choosing, it is better to give preference to mechanisms in which there is a folding spring, they are an order of magnitude more reliable.

The tape stop can be safely called a symbol of simplicity. Self-tapping pads are attached on both sides of the strong tape, you just need to screw these pads to the doors and the jamb.

True, the appearance of this limiter leaves much to be desired, plus such tapes fray or tear rather quickly.

If you still decide to buy a tape stop, then it is better to choose elastic stretchable models, their price is not much higher, but such stops are more convenient to use.

Tape stop is considered one of the simplest and most affordable options.

The retractable overdoor stop is a rod with a kind of brake shoe. It is installed in a vertical position and you yourself can decide where exactly to fix the structure.

The retractable overdoor stop is a fairly compact and convenient device.

The sliding model is designed to rigidly fix the door leaf at certain points, there may be several points, it all depends on the number of cutouts in the solid base groove.

This device cannot be called completely over the door, since the base part with a groove is attached to the door jamb, and only the movable stem is fixed on the canvas. Although this is not essential, on some models the fasteners can be interchanged.

The undoubted advantage of such an emphasis is the installation at the top of the doors, where it does not interfere with anyone. On the other hand, to release the stem from the locking groove, you will have to reach it, which is not always convenient.

Soft slips protect a door from slamming. These devices are especially convenient in children's rooms, with such pads your child's fingers are much less likely to be squeezed in the door. There is no need to talk about installation at all, the rubber band is simply put on the door.

Installation technique

Installing a door stop is pretty easy. We will not talk about gluing options, you can handle this yourself, as for fixing on self-tapping screws, the instruction is something like this:

  1. We install a door with a gap between the handle and the wall of about 20 mm and mark the position on the floor;
  2. According to the mark on the floor, set the emphasis at the desired angle;
  3. We drill a hole for the dowel for the self-tapping screw and insert the dowel itself;
  4. We fasten the stop with a self-tapping screw to the floor.

Wall and door opening stops are mounted in approximately the same way, so there is no point in retelling this simple instruction.
