Installing a door trim. Installation of extensions on interior doors L-shaped extensions on entrance doors

Not everyone imagines what extensions installed on interior doors are. Meanwhile, these elements give the door a finished look. Their installation is not difficult and is quite feasible with your own hands, especially after watching the video with detailed explanations and photos.

What are extras

Visually, they look like horizontal and vertical planks with different textures and sizes. Their installation is carried out between the door frame and platbands, both with their own hands and with the involvement of specialists.

Additional slats are not only functional - strengthening the door frame, but also aesthetic - they mask defects on the slopes. As a material for their manufacture are used:

  • board - most often coniferous;
  • Fiberboard, MDF, chipboard, laminated or veneered.

An industrial board is a frame made of wood with thin sheets of MDF fixed on it, which have honeycombs inside, which makes them light, due to this, installation is simplified. The finish of the extensions matches the color of the door frame and the door itself.

What are the types of extensions for interior doors

On sale there are strips of various sizes - from 7 to 40 cm. All extensions are divided into 2 main types. They are:

Tip: if you need to mount extensions on a previously installed interior door, add attached elements that are close to the box and are slipped under it - lining.

How to properly install extensions on the door between rooms

Doborny boards are installed with their own hands, not only when installing a new door, but also on existing doors. The easiest way to fix the extensions is when installing a new design that is installed together with the door frame. They must be placed in the form of the letter "P". The installation procedure is as follows:

  • Stable stools of the same height are put in a row and a door jamb is placed on them, while the inner side should be on top.
  • They check whether all the angles are equal to 90 degrees, for which they measure the diagonals - their sizes must match.
  • A groove for dobors is selected with a cutter, if it is absent. Its depth and width must correspond to the thickness of the additional plank.

  • A frame is mounted along the contour of the box under the door, but not solid, but in separate strips of plasterboard or plywood. It is enough to put 2 segments at the top, and 3 segments on the sides. They recommend fixing plywood with nails, and drywall with self-tapping screws.

  • The upper element is cut out according to the size of the upper groove, and the side parts of the extension along the length of the side parts of the door frame.
  • Lubricate the edges of the groove with mounting glue or liquid nails.
  • Insert extensions, give time for the glue to harden.

  • The temporary frame is dismantled, then the door frame is installed.
  • The box is leveled: the width dimensions are adjusted using spacers, checking the verticality of the side parts with a plumb line. The horizontality of the top is achieved through the installation of wedges under the side parts of the box.

  • Cracks are sealed with foam, a layer of plaster is applied flush with the wall.

  • They carry out the installation of platbands and skirting boards - the installation of the door with extensions is done by hand.

Attention! If a quarter is not selected on the box in order to mount an extension into it, then you will have to put it directly on the outline of the box. At the same time, the additional strip should be fixed with glue applied in portions every 100-150 mm. When the foam dries and expands, the empty spaces will be filled.

Installation of standard simple extensions on self-tapping screws

Do-it-yourself installation is carried out in several steps:

No matter how complex operations you have to perform when installing extensions, the result is worth it. Having done everything yourself, you will be convinced of this.

Addition to the interior door: photo

Installation of interior doors is a simple operation that can be performed even without such work experience. As a frame for such structures, a door frame is used, which is attached directly to the wall. The dimensions of this product often do not exceed much similar parameters of the door leaf. But the thickness of the wall in most cases is much wider than this entire system. Additions to interior doors will help to correct this difference.

Dobors are protective strips that are installed next to the door frame. Often they can be found on the entrance or interior doors. The latter option is more relevant, since the design decorates the surface, including the arrangement of high-quality slopes.

Door dobor technically is an ordinary plank or board of a certain thickness and length. However, there is no universal standard that would regulate its technical characteristics. The structures are installed close to the box, which eliminates the appearance of cracks and other ugly openings. Today, extensions are often called factory products, which are distinguished by beautiful design and high-quality finish. This product consists of several main parts:

  • Two vertical boards. Their length corresponds to the height of the doorway. They are attached directly to both sides of the frame. Fixation can occur with glue, screws or other specialized methods.
  • Horizontal jumper. Structurally, it connects two vertical supports into a single integral system.

The width of all these three elements is often equal. If the opening parameters are not standard, then each individual additional board is adjusted individually to the required dimensions.

Doborny strips have several significant advantages:

  • Ease of installation. Installation of extensions in most cases does not require the use of special fasteners.
  • Durability. The product adheres tightly to the surface of the slope, preventing it from being destroyed by accidental physical impacts.
  • Variety of styles. Dobors can be made in almost any color or structure. At the same time, they are suitable for both wooden and plastic interior systems.

Why do you need a door opener?

Dobors are simple structures that are easy to build on your own.

These products are very practical and solve several basic tasks:

  • The main purpose of the extensions is to complement the door frame in order to decorate the opening. At the same time, the installation of such structures does not require special skills and abilities. Often, extensions are installed by specialists who mount the door as well. To create a unique system, extensions can be complemented by various decorative inserts or carvings (wood).
  • Dobor exclude additional finishing of slopes. This allows you to save time and effort of specialists. It should be noted that the quality of the finish does not suffer in any way. In some cases, the surface obtained with the help of additional strips is more beautiful.

  • Additional insulation. A lot of cold air enters the room through the gaps between the box and the wall. But such a phenomenon is relevant only for input structures, while interior systems are free from this drawback.
  • Elimination of distortions and strengthening of the web. Some modifications allow you to visually align all the shortcomings of the door frame. This is achieved through the selection of different types of products that can even be attached directly to the door frame itself.

Interior door extensions are a completely independent design that does not have to be used in conjunction with a door frame. One of the directions is the arrangement of a kind of transition between several separate rooms. This completely eliminates the use of doors.

Types and forms

Door extensions are simple structures that are very difficult to divide into types. But still there is a classification that takes into account the design features of the slats. Depending on these values, several types of additional products can be distinguished:

  • Standard. Outwardly, these extensions are ordinary planks of small thickness. However, they do not have any additional structural elements that complicate the system. Interior extensions are very often made of glued boards from waste wood. To give them an original design, their ends are trimmed with special edges. This also makes it possible to increase the resistance of the material to moisture.
  • Telescopic. Products of this type are more versatile. A feature of the telescopic dobor is the presence of special grooves at the ends of the plank. Outwardly, they are very similar to the systems that are equipped with plastic or wooden lining. With the help of these grooves, extensions can be extended to almost any width. Therefore, such designs are much easier to adapt to different widths of the doorway.

The connection with a groove also eliminates the presence of gaps, while the use of ordinary flat strips leads to their appearance. If the interior door frame is made of wood, then a similar groove can be additionally cut out in it. Thus, a high-quality connection is obtained, which is almost imperceptible from the outside.

  • Combined. Dobors of this type are a combination of a platband and a plank. These corner structures are versatile and allow better coverage of the doorway. Similar products are also supplemented with special grooves to simplify the installation procedure.

As for the form of extensions, it is not so diverse. The most popular and cheapest modifications are the usual flat rectangular boards made of metal or plastic. But there are models that are complemented by decorative design. Today, column-shaped extensions are especially popular. They are made only from wood or its derivatives. At the request of the customer, the manufacturer can supplement them with various decorative overlays or inserts. But the cost of such products is already much higher than the classic modifications.

What are the sizes?

The extensions complement the door frame, so they must be adjusted to its dimensions. This is necessary to create a harmonious and practical system that will last a long time without replacement. The modern market represents a variety of standard sizes of additional strips, which allows them to be adapted to any size of the opening:

  • Length. This value depends on the purpose of a particular element. For example, cross bars can have a length of 60 to 200 cm, depending on the type of door on which they are installed. As for the vertical bars, their height varies from 190 to 220 cm, depending on the modification. If you need to install extensions on non-standard doors, then under the order this value can be increased to 250-260 cm.
  • Width. This characteristic also varies over a wide range. Today, both wide and narrow modifications are presented on the market. The width of the extensions often does not exceed 20 cm. At the same time, each manufacturer produces several sizes that differ in small increments. So, standard designs have a width of 10, 12, 15 and 20 cm. The parameters of telescopic extensions may also differ slightly - 90, 12 and 150 cm.
  • Thickness. This parameter is one of the most important, since the decorative appearance of the resulting system depends on it. The most common extension size on the market is 10mm. Such products are very popular due to the fact that they fit under many door frames. But the varieties of planks do not end there. The thickness of these products can vary from 6 to 30 mm depending on the material and type of manufacturer. Focus on the parameters of the door frame.

materials

A feature of interior doors is that they are made from materials that are practical and have unique decorative properties. Therefore, in the manufacture of extensions, the same features are taken into account. It is important here that the products fit the basic designs.

Today, for the production of extensions for interior doors, the following materials are used:

  • PVC. Plastic extensions are thin plates that resemble a lining. They differ in low strength and simple design. Therefore, they are used relatively rarely inside residential buildings. Sometimes they are supplemented with plastic door frames to the balcony or to the bathroom. The advantage of this product is that it is not afraid of moisture.
  • Tree. Solid wood slats are the most expensive and high-quality products. The material is strong and durable, and the unique texture allows you to combine them with almost any style of interior. Wooden structures are made from a variety of tree species. The most common are pine wood extensions, as it is well processed and available almost everywhere. But when choosing these components, it is also important to consider the material from which the door frame is made. Therefore, the best option would be an addition from the same breed as the doors themselves. This will create a smooth transition of the pattern that will fit perfectly into the interior.

  • Chipboard and fiberboard. These substances are also very relevant for receiving supplements. The material has a low price and relatively good strength. But over time, the plate can absorb moisture, which will cause it to swell.
  • MDF. Dobors from it are distinguished by unique decorative parameters and relatively low cost. To give the material a unique design, it can be covered with various protective films (lamination and other options). These products also do not allow moisture to penetrate inside, which prolongs the life of the product.

If metal doors are used as internal door structures, then their box can be supplemented with extensions from the same substance. But this combination is relatively rare. Moreover, the installation of these structures requires the formation of a special docking groove, which is not always technically possible.

How to choose an additional element?

After installing the door leaf, the question often arises of finishing the slopes. Today, this problem is often solved with the help of extensions. But, before you run to the store for these products, you should decide whether you need them. It is recommended to use such structures if the wall thickness is at least 13-15 cm. In this case, the box will take only 5-7 cm, and the rest will need to be covered with an additional board.

When buying an additional plank, you should be guided by a few simple recommendations:

  • First of all, you need to decide on the dimensions of the board or timber for the addition. To do this, measure the dimensions of the wall near the box to find out the height and width of the product. Please note that all measurements must be carried out taking into account the fact that the bar will hide a little in the groove of the door frame.

It is advisable to take measurements in several places along the entire length of a particular side. This is important because openings often do not represent a smooth geometric figure, which makes it impossible to use only one value in the selection. If you have calculated the dimensions of the extensions, then it is advisable to add a few more centimeters of margin to these values.

  • The next step is to choose a plank for a specific type of door leaf. Here, the material from which the doors are made and their type are often taken into account. So, for example, the same platbands as for classic single-leaf modifications will not work for a pencil case door. The style design of the extensions is already selected individually, taking into account the personal preferences of the buyer and his financial capabilities.
  • Manufacturer. This characteristic is also one of the most important, as it affects the quality of the material. Today, many companies produce extensions, but not all of their products can serve for a long time and reliably. Among all this diversity, we should highlight such brands as Mario Rioli, Matadoor and many others. At the same time, be sure to take into account customer reviews about each of them in order to purchase quality products.

What can be replaced?

An additional bar for interior doors can be made independently. The main thing here is to choose a material that matches the main style of the door leaf and frame in color.

You can replace the factory extensions with several materials:

  • Plywood. For this, both the usual and moisture-resistant type of substance are suitable. A variety of products allows you to choose not only the thickness, but also some of the decorative features of the material. After the manufacture of plywood extensions, they must be coated with protective varnishes or paints to prevent delamination.
  • Wooden plank. Often dobor - this is this type of product. To get a high-quality bar, the board is carefully sanded and varnished. In the presence of a milling cutter, several decorative elements can be cut out on its surface.
  • Plastic lining. The best option for making dobors. Products have a low cost and are perfectly cut, which will allow you to cut the strips of the desired size.
  • Laminate. This material is also available in the form of strips that are easy to attach to the wall. But they are rarely used intentionally, as they are very expensive. You can equip the extensions from the remnants of the laminate, after laying it on the floor.

What are add-ons? Why are they needed when installing interior doors? What are the extensions by type of edge and method of fastening? How are fees set? These and other questions will be discussed in detail in this article.

We usually tell our clients "If your wall thickness is more than 7 cm, then you will need extensions". To independently determine whether extensions are needed for your doorway, you should correctly measure the doorways.

How to determine the number of donations?

Almost all door manufacturers sell extensions in standard widths - 100, 150 and 200 mm, and the door frame is almost always 70 mm wide. All this to the fact that before installing the extensions, they must be sawn along to give them the desired width.

For example, if you have a wall thickness of 90 mm, then it turns out that you will definitely need another 25 mm wide extension to the box. (about 5 mm is needed to insert the extension into the groove of the box) But extensions of this width are not sold, so we buy an extension 100 mm wide and saw off a strip of 25 mm along each edge of the extension.

As a result, we will have one more strip of extension (middle) with a width of 45 mm (5 mm was spent on cuts), which, theoretically, can also be used on the top of the box, but in practice this is not done, especially if the extensions have edged edges, i.e. e. the end of the dobor has the same coating as the front part of the dobor.

Dobors, without edging, have, basically, only veneered doors. veneer (a thin cut of wood) is not an elastic brittle material and it is impossible to bend it at a right angle and not break it. Therefore, almost all veneered extensions do not have an edge. Dobors with artificial coatings (Laminate, PVC, Eco-veneer, Laminatin,) have edged ends. In addition, like a door frame or architraves, extensions can also be simple and telescopic.

Types of extensions on the end

We return to our example with cutting extensions with a wall thickness of 90 mm. For this case, you will need 1.5 sticks of extensions. From one stick (board) of the extension, we make two extensions, sawing it into pieces, and from 0.5 extension we also saw off a piece of the desired width and put it on top of the box.

As a result, it turns out that if we have a wall thickness of 70 to 90 mm, then we will not need a complete set of extensions (2.5 sticks), but 1.5 sticks 100 mm wide will be enough. If the wall thickness is from 90 to 165 mm, then a complete set of extensions is required - 2.5 sticks 100 mm wide.

Table 1: Complete set of extensions for doorways for interior doors. The required number of extensions for each case of doorway wall thickness.

Standard trim widths

Wall thickness in mm 100 cm 150 cm 200 cm
from 70 to 90 1.5 - -
from 90 to 165 2.5 - 1.5
from 165 to 215 - 2.5 -
from 215 to 265 - - 2.5

Telescopic extensions and their features

As mentioned above, there are extensions with and without an edge. There is also a third type of edge: the end of the extension has a slot. These are telescopic dobors, which are designed for the installation of telescopic architraves.

What are the features of telescopic extensions? For example, if the thickness of the wall in the doorway is 800 mm, then it becomes possible to save money: buy doors with telescopic accessories, and it will be possible not to buy extensions. we will close the missing 10 mm with a telescopic casing due to the fact that it can be pulled out of the groove of the frame by 5 mm on each side of the door frame.

Although telescopic moldings cost almost one and a half times more than simple ones, in our case we not only exclude the cost of extensions, but also the cost of their installation. In addition, if the telescopic extension has to be cut in half, then it will be more difficult to attach it to the box, because. you will have to prepare a box for additional, which will also entail additional costs.

Some manufacturers make extensions one-sided, i.e. cutout for telescopic casing on one side only. When cutting the extension to the desired width, this of course facilitates the work of attaching the extension to the box, but the downside is that such extensions will always have to be bought in a complete set in quantity, because. do not split them in two.

If the walls are wide?

As a rule, a doorway in brick houses or in a load-bearing wall can be more than 300 mm thick. In this case, it is better to ennoble the doorway under the wall (paste over with wallpaper or paint) and not put extensions. The downside is that the unprotected corners of this opening run the risk of being quickly damaged. Therefore, extensions are installed in the entire opening and ennobled with platbands on both sides. There are two ways to solve this problem:

1. Close the end of the doorway with solid extensions. Many door manufacturers produce wall panels or additional boards. In fact, these are the same extensions about a meter wide. In addition, under the order, you can order extensions of the desired width, but only in multiples of 100 mm. In extreme cases, you can buy wall panels from another manufacturer, choosing by color.

2. Close the end of the doorway with docked extensions. If, for example, the wall thickness is 30 cm, then you can take two sets of extensions 10 and 15 cm wide and join them by sawing one of the sets in width. It is especially good to join telescopic extensions with a glazing bead.

INTERROOM DOORS WITH ADDITIONS >>>

Installation of extensions

Extras are installed when collecting the box. At the beginning, we assemble the box, and then we fasten the extensions sawn to the required width to the box using special mounting plates with short self-tapping screws. Thus, the extensions with the door frame become one. The whole structure is mounted in the doorway.

It is not recommended to put the door frame separately, and then the wide extensions separately, because it will be problematic to securely fix the extensions to the frame. If glued or not fixed at all, then over time, the extensions from the box can move away, forming a gap. Separately, you can install extensions with a width of not more than 50 mm.

When the thickness of the wall on which the door is to be installed is more than 140 mm, it is necessary to use a telescopic extension. It is a simple panel that has special grooves on the side ends. This is necessary because of the need for a strong docking with the door frame.

In the case when the wall thickness is large, it is necessary to make an addition of non-standard parameters. It is very important that telescopic extensions, platbands have the same color as the door leaf.

At the same time, platbands and extensions should have an attractive appearance, be of high quality and durable.

Benefits of add-ons:

  • high speed of installation of the door block, which is expanded with extensions;
  • no need for wall decoration;
  • beautiful appearance.

Especially often the need to install extensions arises when there are chips, cracks or protruding wires on the opening. Thus, it is easy to make the doorway aesthetic and airtight.

Types of extensions

Doboras, like platbands, can be made independently, but it is better to use ready-made products, which quite often come with the door system.

Dobory for interior doors have several types:

  • telescopic;
  • simple with an edge;
  • simple without edges.

Simple extensions with and without an edge are a straight bar with even cuts. It is better to purchase a product with an edge, otherwise the platband will not completely close the cut, which will reduce the attractiveness of the door structure. Such dobors are attached to a section of an uncovered wall.

Telescopic models include new types of products with a groove that provides a secure and tight fit. That is, the extension interlocks with the door frame or platbands, which is a huge advantage.

This type of extension is made by analogy with the lining rail, which has a groove and a comb on different sides. They have different sizes of width, which varies from 90 to 150 mm.

What are supplements made from?

As a raw material for the manufacture of dobors, a tongue-and-groove or edged board is used. All materials for extensions are pasted over with a special decorative film.

If the product is selected for the large dimensions of the adjacent wall, then BS waterproof plywood will be the best choice. It is also suitable for rooms with high humidity.

It is very advantageous to use ready-made additional boards, which are made of MDF and have a special protective coating. Factory products have standard sizes, and if the walls in the building are very thick, then type-setting extensions can be used. For such cases, you will need additional planks with a tongue-and-groove lock made from an MDF plank.

On the inside of the door frame there is a special recess in which the extensions are placed. When they need to be installed on an already installed door, special attachments are usually used. This installation of extensions is perfect for a room with a moderate level of temperature and with normal humidity. They are mounted on high-quality door leafs. Less often they use extensions that need to be slipped under the door frame.

Installation of extensions

Smooth walls in a room are a rarity. Most often, a wedge forms between the wall and the door, because of this, the markup of the extension is carried out when the installation of the door is completed. In addition, each bar is measured separately.

When a wedge is obtained during marking, it is necessary to cut out the extension. Therefore, when marking, it is necessary to observe the utmost accuracy and care. If you do the work yourself, then you need to fix the marking line to avoid displacement.

Dobors are connected by the letter "P" in three ways:

  • when the top bar is located between the vertical extensions;
  • with support on the racks of the crossbars;
  • cut at a 45 degree angle.

If the installation of extensions is done by one's own hands without the help of specialists, then it is better not to consider the last installation option. It is designed for professionals with experience in such work and a saw with the function of turning the saw blade.

Even a small chip can spoil all the efforts to install the extension, so you need to carefully monitor the cleanliness in the process. In this case, the design can be assembled separately or in a finished U-frame.

Telescopic extensions require that the architraves are tightly installed in the groove. The platbands do not need an additional additive for glue or foam. If it ever becomes necessary to remove the platbands, then it will be easiest to do this if you initially glue them on liquid nails.

When the wall between the rooms exceeds 14 cm in thickness, when installing the door, you need to think about special decorative panels that cover the side slopes of the opening - extensions. These parts are widely used in finishing work related to door installations. Extensions give the finished installed door structure a complete and neat look. They mask the "stuffing" of the walls from the side and top, thereby giving the opening a proper presentable look. The article will focus on one of the types of extensions - telescopic.

This is the most preferred option, since the peculiar arrangement of these parts provides for the presence of grooves that allow you to tightly and securely “fit” the extensions even without glue. As a result, the work process becomes easier, and the result is better and more durable. We will find out what characteristics telescopic extensions for interior doors have and their advantages. In addition, we will get acquainted with the process of self-assembly of these decorative parts.

Description of telescopic extensions for interior doors

A telescopic extension is an indispensable detail in order to mask the walls of doorways when they exceed a thickness of 14 cm. And in modern houses and in apartments of an individual layout, massive interior walls are not uncommon. Externally, a telescopic extension is a flat, straight plank, most often made of MDF, and covered with veneer or PVC film. On the side panels (ends) of the telescopic extension, longitudinal holes are cut - grooves, thanks to which docking with the door frame is reliable, tight and fast. What types of platbands exist on the door, and how to install them, is indicated in this

And if there is a groove on the rail on one side, then on the other there is a comb that is inserted into another groove. This technology allows you to assemble a part of the required parameters. The principle of fastening is similar to laminate flooring.

The top coating of extensions is most often varnished, thanks to which the details acquire a soft noble sheen and become resistant to external dirt, damage and water penetration.

pros

As already mentioned, the main advantage of this type of decorative panels is the reliability and ease of installation at the same time. Special grooves, which are only available on telescopic extensions, put them head and shoulders above simple and simple with an edge. The speed of installation is also a characteristic feature of this type of decorative details.

What are the advantages of telescopic extensions, we will find out.

Telescopic dobor device

Dobory help to exclude any decoration of the walls facing the side and top. These details reliably cover all the unsightly details of a concrete or brick wall, thereby giving the apartment a cozy and neat look. Telescopic extensions look presentable, with their help the door block looks “more expensive”.

The great advantage of telescopic extensions is that they can be used to close the walls in the doorway of any thickness. This is the versatility of this type of decorative details, and one of their main advantages.

First of all, we note that in order for the door block, along with the extensions and platbands, to look neat and presentable, it is desirable for the room to have even walls. But since the ideal evenness of the walls is a rarity, most often it is necessary to bring the width of the extension to mind with the help of wedging. Therefore, when installing these parts, an excellent eye, accuracy, slowness, and attentiveness are required.

Telescopic extensions can be installed in three ways:

  • with the location of the upper horizontal part between the two side vertical ones.
  • With the expectation that the upper bar rests on the side ones.
  • With a 45 degree seam cut.

The last option for self-execution is quite complicated: therefore, if you want to do the work yourself, it is better not to consider it. It is within the power of experienced craftsmen, for whom installing doors is a profession. In addition, for this type of installation, you need a rotary saw, which is not found in every home.

But how the installation of extensions and platbands on interior doors is carried out, it will help to understand this

When installing extensions, you can fix each part separately, but you can assemble the entire structure on the floor in the form of the letter P, and mount it as a whole. For self-installation, we recommend choosing the first option, as it is easier.

In order for the telescopic extensions to be installed correctly, it is necessary that the parts fit snugly into the grooves. But they do not need additional foaming or gluing to reduce the cost, speed up and simplify the work.

Installation

We will learn how to properly install telescopic extensions on interior doors.

Dobors are installed only after the box is in place and the door leaf is hung. It is necessary to wait until the foam used when installing the door block has completely solidified, and only then proceed with the installation of extensions.

If there are grooves in the box, they must be cleaned from the remnants of foam, dust, dirt. If there is no such recess, you will have to cut it yourself - for this you need a milling cutter.

The specificity of telescopic extensions is that they are adjusted in width not by trimming, like simple ones, but by attaching rails. The more rows of rails are assembled, the wider the finished additional shield, and vice versa.

But how the installation of platbands on plastic windows in a wooden house is carried out, you can see

Video: installing door extensions

On the video installation of telescopic extensions:

First of all, the first row of rails is mounted: it is installed around the entire perimeter of the opening. After checking the accuracy and evenness of its installation, you can mount the second row, and if necessary, the third. Of course, experienced craftsmen can mount the finished structure immediately, and not in separate rows, however, if you carry out the installation on your own, you should not risk it. Better slower, but more accurate, and guaranteed to be correct.

It may also be useful for you to learn about what happens and how to use it.

If your additional shield will consist of one or two planks, then you can handle the installation yourself. But if you need to fasten the rails more, it’s better to call a specialist for work, since there is a high risk of “screwing up”.

Carefully join the horizontal and vertical parts, get rid of the gaps, if any. After all the details are fitted, there are no cracks and other defects: everything is strong, smooth and neat, you can attach the trim.

Attention: Take special care during installation to drive the tongues of the rails into the grooves as tightly as possible: this will help to avoid gaps in the final structure.

If the box is skewed

It often happens that the existing skew of the door frame does not make it possible to mount the extensions normally, firmly and beautifully. Let's find out what to do in this case.

If there is a skew, then during the installation of the extensions there will be a clear deviation of the upper part from the side ones. And if this deviation is more than 5 percent of the length of the extension, then experts recommend that you first completely straighten the skew, and only then proceed with the installation of decorative parts. If you give up on this drawback and put the extensions on a skewed box, over time, gaps will appear between the top and side strips that will spoil the appearance of the door block.

If the distortion is slight, it can be removed by additionally plastering the wall. Well, in the case when the slope is solid, you will have to adjust the evenness of the installation of extensions with wedges. But what are the sizes of entrance doors with a box, you can see

How to choose the width

We will find out why, when choosing an extension, such a parameter as width is of particular importance, and how to choose it correctly.

Modern manufacturers meet all the wishes of customers, and therefore offer not one or two standard widths of decorative strips for doorways, but several. So, a typical set of options for extensions of any brand includes a width range from five to forty cm. As you can see, almost any width of existing internal walls can fit in this range. But if the wall is already very thick, in this case, the craftsmen in the door manufacturing company may well make custom-made rails according to the required non-standard parameters.

But most often on sale you can find the following width of decorative strips for interior doors: 10 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm.

Material

Let us dwell in more detail on such an important point as the choice of material for the telescopic addition of an interior door.

Of course, as already mentioned, the material of decorative parts must match the material from which the door block is made: its color, pattern, texture.
