Mobile phone microsoft lumia 950. In automatic mode in very low light

Pros:

Excellent screen, good design, fits perfectly in the hand, good camera, perfectly responds to touch, internal phone memory, RAM

Minuses:

When taking a photo, focusing if someone moves his hand a little starts to focus again, the battery

Overall impression:

I took the phone for a Test Drive, now I have Lumiya 735, (Windows 10 is installed on Lumiya 735) the difference is of course noticeable, Lumiya 950 has justified itself, at least these days, it does not slow down, everything works clearly and quickly. 6 nuclear percent does its own thing, the display is very clear. The applications work well except for the vibe, it looks like a problem with the bodies with Windows 10, since on the Windows background 8. 1 worked fine. If the battery had a slightly higher capacity, it would be great. I was satisfied with the phone, I plan to take it myself soon.

Pros:

Excellent camera, clear screen, comfortable in hand, eye scanner, battery, continuum, charging speed

Minuses:

Not detected

Overall impression:

I took the phone for a test drive. For a week of use, I fell in love with him. The pictures are better than on the Lumia 1020. It fits well in the hand, I touch the corner with my finger without any problems. Charging is enough for about a day in active use. Charges quickly, a little over an hour from 0 to 100. Great phone, I recommend it to everyone

Pros:

All in all, an ordinary phone. High-quality pictures. High-quality screen.

Minuses:

Very slow

Overall impression:

It takes a very long time to load when opening the application. Thinks for a long time, I would like to faster. Maybe I'm only used to android and apple, I figured it out faster there. But there are a lot of questions here. Contacts are not conveniently located. Data is not copied from any application, if there is data from the application in the exchange copier, it will not be copied from the Internet. There are few applications in the store that are necessary for the work. I will not list all the disadvantages, the most important thing is that it slows down the worst.

Pros:

Retinal unlock - works surprisingly well.
The camera is pretty good.
Unfortunately, I did not try the continuum, but if everyone writes about it, then the thing is very convenient.

Minuses:

Appearance - does not match the flagship model, with a plastic back cover it looks pretty cheap. Although it may be possible to fix this with removable panels.

Overall impression:

In general, little can be said about the phone itself, the axis is subjected to the main assessment. Windows 10 runs smoothly, does not freeze. Applications are becoming more and more, and thanks to a single platform with a desktop ten, most likely soon this will completely cease to be a problem.
The windows ecosystem is evolving in the right direction.

Pros:

Nice-to-touch body material, fits nicely in the hand, fits in a jeans pocket (this is an important criterion for me), good build quality, it is convenient to operate with one hand, a bright screen (I did not test it on a sunny day), the keyboard is more comfortable (compared to lumia 650 , in which the extreme keys sometimes react badly). Separate + camera: good image quality in low light, catches objects in motion, macro shots pleased. There is a separate side camera button, which is incredibly handy.

Minuses:

Rebooted spontaneously when trying to connect to the wi-fi metro. Subjective: there are usually few programs in the Store

Overall impression:

I took the phone for a test drive and did not immediately manage to get used to Windows 10. The impressions from the device are good.

Pros:

Great screen, great camera and 3 GB of RAM

Minuses:

Flimsy back cover, squeaks and looks cheap

Overall impression:

I decided to try a Windows smartphone. At the beginning of using, I did not understand anything where to go, how to configure and where to look for applications that are not on the main screen. But after a couple of hours everything became clear, as if I had been using this device for a long time. Everything is intuitive. There is an interesting unlock function for scanning the eyes, but in my opinion it is stupid, because this process takes a long time. The oleophobic coating on the glass is normal, the finger glides well. Colors do not change when the viewing angle is changed. For 45,000 rubles. Of course it's expensive, but now it's a great deal, it is on sale for 35,000 and the second phone in addition, lumia 550. The phone is good, I recommend it.

Pros:

I want to start by saying that I have the phone for a test drive out of curiosity, I myself am the owner of an xperia z3 dual. Therefore, it only feels like this for a week:
1) The camera is really cool shoots in RAW, the advanced system for choosing the illumination (the flash has not yet fired and the series is smoothly before the fired flash) is great.
3) A tenacious battery, Snapgragon 808, AMOLED, good compatibility and autonomy settings.
4) Good quality of communication, the sound is very clear.

Minuses:

1) Video with optical stabilization - really cool, but sometimes it dulls with the choice of focusing, you can adapt (manual mode will help)
2) Navigation in HERE, leaves much to be desired without voice support, it is of little use, it lies in traffic jams, in short it is worse than Google.

Overall impression:

A bit unfriendly applications in Windows, well, I think this phone deserves attention for sure.

Pros:

Great camera
+ good display
+ unusual and fast system

Minuses:

Poorly adapted applications
- some system functions do not work well

Overall impression:

I took the Lumia 950 for a test drive. Against the backdrop of annoying iPhones and Androids, Lumia brings at least some variety. An excellent display, just a wonderful keyboard, Glance Screen - all this gives pleasant emotions when using.
Not without its drawbacks. Firstly, the interface of many applications is either not adapted or simply made poorly. This is especially noticeable in instant messengers: the keyboard takes up half of the screen, and there is room for one or two messages. The iphone fits 5-6 messages. Not very comfortable. Many operations are more complicated than those of competitors. For example, it is rather difficult to display video on an external display. Until you set everything up, the desire to watch has already disappeared.
All in all an interesting device, but it is more intended for fans of the Windows Phone platform.

Pros:

The symmetry on the screen is beauty.
Strong camera with many settings.
"Fresh" interface - "live" tiles (dynamics with the ability to turn off); 100% occupancy (use) of screen space, this cannot be achieved in alternative operating systems
Absolute recognition - Windows, there is Windows, what's on the computer, what's - now - on the phone.
The ability to find a replacement for any application from alternative operating systems.
Ability to separate call and SMS icons for each SIM card. And the ability to combine them.
RAM: 3 GB. Yes Yes!
Smart 4G internet.
Not faced with any "childhood diseases".
Young OS, there is something to strive for. And this is great!

Minuses:

Keyboard: no letter "e"; a solid sign; exclamation mark; question mark.
Plastic case.
Notifications are marked with the same icon: SMS, missed calls, messenger messages, and system notifications.
There is no way to systematically take a screenshot of the screen.
After 5 minutes of active photography, the device began to get very hot and it is unacceptable to save a photo for a long time.
No reboot. On-off only.
Not all applications that I use are on this OS.
The system is still young, flaws and illogicality are felt.

Overall impression:

The phone was on a test drive.
Personally, I consider this model as a purchase as a second phone.

Pros:

Screen -Iris scanner -Camera -Practical assembly -Easy to use with one hand -Fast charging -Flagman smartphone "as it is

Minuses:

There is still no release build of Windows 10, but how much time has passed since the start of sales

Overall impression:

I really liked the phone. Impressed by the screen. AMOLED technology may distort colors, but the eye quickly gets used to it and then it is no longer possible to look at IPS, especially at black. .. The killer feature is Iris scan and Windows Hello, please don’t confuse the iris and the retina, repeat the biology :)) It works really fast, but the phone has to be lifted from time to time higher, closer to eye level. The processor and memory allow you to fully enjoy the operating system, which, unfortunately, is not yet in the release assembly. The camera is a separate song! She's just the best! The design of the phone (plastic, removable cover) will cause pain for many victims of marketing in a known area, however, from the point of view of PRACTICE, there is no better solution: the battery can always be replaced, the cover can be changed to leather / metal, you do not need to imagine yourself as an adept of acupuncture trying insert a sim card. Fast charging is amazing, but in 1.5 hours the smartphone charges to 100% from almost 0%. Ergonomics - it is gorgeous in the hand. Thinner than the 930 and not as bulky as the phablet, so to speak, it is convenient to look into your pocket and movies. The sound in the headphones is at a level, I was not particularly surprised, but you can listen, I approve :)) and Last, for those who have read it - this smartphone does not need to be compared with either iOs or Android. Windows Phone is a separate niche of devices, with its own well-known pros and cons. In my opinion, if you have a primary Windows device, then Windows Phone is what you need.

Pros:

Camera, screen, sound, Windows Hello

Minuses:

C, overheating, body materials

Overall impression:

The device left mixed feelings. First of all, the system. Windows 10 Mobile is a rather strange thing, because it manages to combine the convenience, speed of WinPhone and the wild bugs of the new version. Over the entire period of use, half of the applications slowed down on level ground and the phone heated up. And the quantity and quality of applications is still poor. Now to the pluses: a large and high-quality screen gave a really good feeling from reading and watching videos. The keyboard was a bit unusual, but you can get used to it over time. The camera is good, here you can only find fault with the shitty zoom in the phone for 45k. Retinal recognition is very good considering that I wear glasses all the time.
I put the phone at 4 with a bold minus.

Pros:

First of all, he is smart. Flies with a bang! Used mostly Wi-Fi (Powerful). Windows 10 was new to me, but it lived up to expectations. The app store is good. Abundant. Of course, there are a lot of applications for this phone. As stated, the phone works like a computer. And it is true.
There are initial settings. Convenient folder explorer. Unlocking by scanning the retina of the eye.
The keyboard responds well to fingers. Even wet. Not buggy.
Powerful camera and flash. Lots of photo editing functions.
The phone charges quickly.
Huge built-in memory + there is a slot for memory cards.

Minuses:

I expected that there would be a normal radio. But no matter how much I looked for it, I could not find it. Although now in most phones, FM radio is abandoned. This, I think, is a huge disadvantage.
Secondly, during long and hard use (games), the phone heats up a little.
Headphones and memory card missing. For such a price, they could have put it.
Using Nano-sim (although for some it may not be a minus).

Overall impression:

I took the phone for a test drive. An excellent device with its own shortcomings. In the absence of a radio, you can use streaming audio or Internet radio.
This phone will delight all Windows smartphone lovers. The updated interface is really pleasing to the eye. And the eyes are not so tired, as the high-definition screen is used.
I recommend this device as the main one. For those who want an expensive and powerful phone, but not a fan of iPhones, this Microsoft is perfect.

Pros:

Minuses:

2. A poor app store, which has become even more scarce visually, because the old design from the times of Windows 8 does not fit well with the concept of Windows 10.

Overall impression:

Pros:

Point by point: 1. Display. Bright, crisp, cool. The picture is juicy. In general, "wow" 2. Camera. Lumia, aka Nokia, has always been famous for its high-quality camera. Photos and videos are beyond praise. 3. Housing. The power key is located in the middle on the right, which is convenient. All keys on the right (volume and camera). The back cover is very pleasant to the touch, it can be removed, the battery can be removed. You can insert a memory card and 2 SIM cards, which is important for many. 4. Recognition system. A really funny thing, but at this stage of development it works so-so, although it recognizes well even in the dark. 5. Powerful filling. Processor, 3 GB of RAM, GPU.

Minuses:

The phone heats up when it is charging, when it works (in one word, constantly).
Windows 10. Indeed, it has become more beautiful, more convenient, more thoughtful. But it is still worth waiting for the update, we'll see there.

Overall impression:

I was really looking forward to this phone, took it for a test drive, but so far I have mixed feelings. Excellent hardware is the only plus of the phone, although now this is not enough, but with the OS it is worth waiting for an update.

Pros:

All apps included on the Lumia 640 XL;
- Interface like desktop Windows 10;
- Comfort of use.

Minuses:

Nano-sim;
- the charger has not yet been distributed.

Overall impression:

Microsoft offers a test drive, to try several models of new phones. I decided to participate. I got a Lumia 950. Among the shortcomings - a nano-SIM card (go find them) and a charger with an unusual connector. Not suitable for other smartphones yet.
The programs installed on my Lumia 640 found almost everything, there are no couple of toys, but figs with them. The interface is almost indistinguishable from the desktop one in Windows 10. The biggest problem with the test drive is to see how the phone works like a computer. To do this, you need to buy a special thing. But the idea itself is great. Yes, this toy costs more than 40 thousand rubles, which is normal for a device that can be used as a phone, tablet or computer, but expensive for a phone.

Pros:

Liked the new Windows Hello Beta user authentication system

Minuses:

Overall impression:

What has actually changed with the advent of the fourth generation of Lumia flagships?
The sizes of Lumia 800-3.7 ', Lumia 920-4.5', Lumia 930-5 ', Lumia 950-5 devices are steadily growing. 2 ’but my hand doesn’t grow! There was a new operating system Windows 10 in it FINALLY fixed the jambs of WP8. 1 Denim! Again, by default, you can put Yandex search and the device turns on the screen if it is taken from the ear during a conversation, which makes it possible to use tone dialing. There is support for two SIM cards, which is convenient for me as a traveler. Now you can use a microСD memory card, hallelujah! A new USB-C connector has appeared. What is nice, with the transition to the new model, all contacts and previously installed applications were transferred using a Windows account. The services HERE Maps, HERE Drive +, HERE Transit and HERE City Lens are gone, now they are combined in one Microsoft Maps application.

Pros:

1. The phone looks more interesting than in the photos, quite organic and complete.
2. Lightweight, fits well in the hand, the screen size is optimal for surfing the Internet and can be easily operated with one hand.
3. Good camera, which in my opinion outperforms the Lumia 1520 and is comparable to the iPhone 5.
4. Removable battery, the ability to change the back cover to one of the third parties. I personally really liked the leather covers from Mozo.
5. Excellent screen, beyond praise. I especially liked the look of the dark theme because of the almost real black, the colors are very saturated.
6. It seems Microsoft still managed to decide on the design of the applications and the operating system. Universal Windows apps look fresh and functional, and the Live Tiles Start screen gives you an overview of all the information you need without having to open the apps. Finally, there is a sense of completeness.
7. The common application model for the entire Windows 10 platform gives hope that applications will now be developed more actively.
8. The stability of the operating system, which was very surprising against the background of freezes and falls on the Lumia 550.
9. Windows Hello (retina sensor) and Continuum (the ability to connect via the Display Dock to the monitor and then work in full-screen versions of universal applications) are real innovations, although they still require improvement due to their youth. But the latter is a very serious application for the creation of a fundamentally new type of mobile devices.

Minuses:

1. A slight backlash of the lid, which is not terrible, but a little unusual.
2. Lean app store, which has become even more scarce visually, because the old design from the time of Windows 8 does not fit well with the concept of Windows 10.
3. Uncertainty about the future of the platform amid rumors about the development of Surface Phone, a one-year leave of the vice president of operating systems and a sharp drop in sales in Q4 2015.
All other disadvantages rest on the youth of the OS and the hope that everything will be fixed soon.

Overall impression:

I took the phone for a test drive. Prior to that, there were HTC Mozart (Windows Phone 7), iPhone 4s, Lumia 1520 and iPhone 6 in succession. Against the background of previous solutions on Windows, I made an unexpectedly pleasant impression, both in terms of hardware and in terms of software. Even if the market is normal and it would be just a dream. Now I seriously consider it as a replacement for the iPhone, as I want something new, it is interesting to watch the development of the platform live and there are plans to use Continuum at home and work. All in all, check out the app store and if you're happy with it, I highly recommend this phone.

Pros:

Convenient, fast, with an excellent camera, with 4 microphones that capture sound very well during video shooting. display - flawlessly.

Minuses:

My sample had a strange wi-fi work, it stopped connecting to the network as soon as 15 meters away from the router, and the Lumia 1520 was connected at the same point and from the same router without any problems. I think a single marriage, but you should be careful.

Overall impression:

An interesting device for windows fans with a very good camera and an interesting continuum mode, which, however, has not yet been tried out due to the lack of a docking station. rather, it is a device for developers and geeks who need to be at the forefront of technology.

Pros:

1. The operating system Windows M 10 is better than 8. It's more pleasant to work with her.
2. The interface is intuitive
3. The phone works smartly.
4. The phone is beautiful, slim, convenient arrangement of buttons. Looks good and fits in the hand.
5. The presence of two sim cards.
6. The camera shoots well.
7.win hello

Minuses:

1. Price.
2. Few applications in the store.
3. Long charging time.
4. There are no shooting modes in the camera.
5. Brakes with a photo album.

Overall impression:

Advantages:
indicated above. Everything about the design, desktop, ergonomics of the device - I liked everything. I really liked the grouping of apps on the home screen
On the shortcomings in more detail:
1. Price. Somewhat overpriced in my opinion.
2. Few applications in the store. Although the release of WoT offers hope.
3. Long charging time (especially in the car and from the computer, much longer than other phones). For 8 hours, the computer was charged only 45%.
4. Lack of panorama mode in the camera. YES and in general, the absence of any shooting modes.
5. Brakes with a photo album. If you take a photo and go there, then you will not be able to enlarge or delete the application, since "adding the final touches" will take at least 20-30 seconds.
6. The display of "weather" on the splash screen in 8 was much better. Now very laconic

Pros:

Chic and shine! A real flagship, for real money, costs as much as the iPhone 6, but is much more powerful and interesting. The screen is super, the camera is just fire! A 100% charge in less than an hour and a high-capacity battery solves autonomy issues. There are no nagging about the software at all, I found all the games and applications I needed.

Minuses:

Of the minuses, only the connector for the cable. Not standard. Partly solved by wireless charging.

Overall impression:

Took the phone for a test drive. In general, the quality of materials and workmanship is excellent, not assembled in China, which is immediately evident. Do not listen to the sofa experts about the cheapness of materials, etc., everything is on top. And I will immediately explain why there is such plastic on the lid: Wireless charging at high currents and frequencies has certain requirements for materials.
Further. The software works fine. The fact that allegedly in beta is not buggy. The store has become more user-friendly, and the settings menu is the same as on a PC. Very good synchronization of settings and parameters with a PC, I started to read the site on my computer, continued on my phone, or play on a mobile phone, continue on a PC. Comfortable.

Overall impression:

I took my phone for a test drive for a week - and now it lies idle, I can't use it and I don't want to force myself. Since the daily list of my applications includes almost the entire set from Google (mail, calendar, disk, tables, photos, and you can also add Google music there), as well as several photo editors to which I am used to and do not want to look for replacements and alternatives, but also the lack of instagram and other things well, which must be like a nosebleed. That is why I would not take this phone for myself, I could recommend it for my brother or mother who have slightly different needs (like a navigator, camera, skype, reader, mail, managers, dialer). On the one hand, the review may look like not objective, but the same stub that I use for me is also annoying (boring monotonous, slippery without a cover, the camera is not of the level that you expect from such a price). I also used Samsung and here my fun, like non-optimized software that does not work the way you used to have a stub, or I stupidly came across a defective phone that I exchanged and there the same defect and then I changed the display in the SC and again the same ( violation of the aleophobic coating) - the phone had to be returned, although at work I use it, but there it is white and immediately in the glass.
In general, Windows has always been pleasant - this is me about the mobile version, of course, since I have been using the axis for two years now - and during this time I have not done anything and nothing has broken))) well, everyone understands what I mean.

Minuses:

What upset me very much was the lack of double-touch unlocking and the ability to work with gloves (they say that these are software problems and the OS will be improved in the future). Some applications, for example TubeCast, are not optimized for W10M and overclock the processor a lot, which causes strong heating and fast battery drain. Well, the price in my opinion is a little overpriced, it would be optimal in the region of 35 tons.

Overall impression:

Well, a little statistics, on battery operation from 7 am to 8 pm with moderate use, social, network, Internet, reading room, calls, instant messengers, the charge dropped from 100 to 29%, for me it is quite acceptable. Fast charging allows you to charge the battery from 25% to 80% in half an hour. A little about windows hello, it works in any light, but not in motion, if you need to stop walking. It also works when charging, in the evening I put it on the wireless, in the morning the message "exceeded the limit of attempts, enter the pin code." Not annoying, but true. The bottom line for me, with the acquisition in the near future, I'll wait, maybe the price tag will fall and the OS will be finalized.

I've always been attracted to Windows smartphones. In such phones, you were provided with a clear, overwhelmingly simple interface, which could not be said about devices on iOS and Android.

That is why, I was greatly disappointed with the release of Lumia 950 with Windows 10: the operating system did not show all the promised trump cards. The electronic filling was not so bad, but the software did not make a very pleasant impression. Particularly disappointing was the Continuum app, which is supposed to turn your smartphone into a kind of desktop computer, but in fact only shows the toothlessness of Microsoft when it comes to competing with the iPhone and Android.

Yes, the phone got a great screen. Yes, his camera takes fairly high quality pictures, especially in low light. I can even quietly close my eyes to the plastic case of the Lumia 950, because the gadget has a microSD slot and a removable battery - which you will not find in the daytime with fire, in many modern smartphones with an iron case. Cortana's voice assistant also looks preferable to Apple's Siri in my opinion.

Microsoft Lumia 950 - Review of the new flagship from Microsoft

However, when it comes to scoring the operating system, things don't look so rosy anymore. Mobile payments, unlimited access to applications, extensions for software - all this in Windows 10 looks as unattractive as in previous versions of the OS from Microsoft. I sincerely hoped that Windows 10 smartphones would gain a significant advantage over other platforms with the Continuum option, which promised to add productivity. In fact, alas, this did not happen.

Lumia 950 Sales Start Date and Price

The cost of a regular Lumia 950 will be $ 550 without being tied to any cellular operator. There will also be a larger version of the smartphone, the Lumia 950 XL, with a 5.7-inch screen, which will start shipping at the end of 2015.

Continuum in Lumia 950: Smartphone turns into PC (TV)

What if your smartphone could double its functionality and also learn to fulfill the role of a desktop computer? This is the idea behind the Continuum option. This is exactly what Windows 10 smartphones should have distinguished from phones on other platforms - on Android and iOS this is not yet the case.

How do you turn your phone into a PC? Connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to your Lumia, and use a desktop monitor or TV screen as your main display. The idea sounds tempting, but there is one "but".

There are only two ways to connect your smartphone to a large screen, and both options are not so simple. In the first case, the TV to which you are connecting must have support for the Miracast video standard, which will allow wireless signal transmission from your smartphone to the TV screen using the installed Continuum application. In the second case, you can make a more reliable wired connection using the Microsoft Display Dock, which costs $ 80 (you will also need additional cables).

The idea looks pretty tempting, but there were some inconveniences. First, you need special features and a set of special cables, including HDMI and USB Type-C cords. A wired or wireless keyboard and mouse are optional as the connected screen can be controlled from the smartphone display.

So, when using Microsoft Office documents, keyboard shortcuts did not work, so you will have to do all the text formatting using the toolbar or the mouse drop-down menu. For example, the functions of quick copy and paste using keyboard shortcuts did not work during my testing, which noticeably slowed down the work with text.

Lumia 950 - connecting to a monitor

It should also be noted that when typing quickly, the cursor on the screen began to slow down, which also significantly complicated and slowed down the work with the text. In general, I repeat, Microsoft's idea of creating a hybrid smartphone-PC looks tempting, but its implementation is severely lame, and I would still prefer a traditional laptop when working on large projects and complex tasks.

Other Windows 10 Software in Lumia 950

In addition to Continuum, Windows 10 has a host of other advanced features. For example, if other modern smartphones are endowed with a fingerprint scanner, then Microsoft decided to endow its iris-scanning smartphone with a software called Windows Hello, which has already been used in Surface tablets before. This option recognizes the owner of the smartphone by scanning his eyes, which, like fingerprints, are unique and inimitable for each person. In terms of speed and convenience, iris-scanning software looks no better than fingerprint scanning. At the same time, the accuracy and correctness of eye scanning depends very much on the quality of illumination. In short, this is a unique way to access your smartphone data, but not always the best one.

Windows 10 gave the Lumia 950 a cleaner, cleaner look in every menu, from operating system settings to theme choices. In the app store, everything is in its place, although, as mentioned above, it lacks a variety of programs (when compared with the Android and iOS stores). I also liked the ability to turn off the screen by double-clicking on the navigation bar (alas, a similar double-click does not turn it back on), and the option to download offline maps, especially if you are heading out of town, where the mobile Internet is not so good, and sometimes it is completely absent.

Lumia 950 Achilles Heel: Number of Apps

While most of the features of Windows 10 are tempting (or promising), all of Microsoft's mobile phone operating systems had and still have one big drawback: the small number of apps available.

For example, Google refused to support this platform, which means that it is not possible to work with such popular services all over the world as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Docs (or rather, the services will be available, but only through a browser). Despite the fact that Microsoft has put a lot of effort into creating alternative software like OneDrive, for people who have been working with Google services for a long time this is a significant drawback.

At the same time, Microsoft managed to get hold of such popular applications as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagramm, Twitter. At the same time, it should be noted that, as a rule, updates for Windows phone applications arrive with a great delay, since developers give more preference to Android and iOS platforms.

Lumia 950 Design: Good Old Plastic

You don't need to have seven spans in your forehead to notice: the appearance of the Lumia 950 leaves much to be desired. The body of the phone is made of plastic, which, in principle, we should get used to. On the other hand, last year's Lumia 930 / Icon had an all-metal body. At the same time, Lumia 950 received a removable battery and a slot for expansion memory cards microSD. The novelty will be sold in white and black, all sorts of exotic shades - such as lime, red or orange - are not available for the new Microsoft smartphone.

The 5.2-inch screen size allows you to comfortably hold the phone in your hand and have full control over it. The Lumia 950 has a dedicated camera button, which I liked because you can double-tap to open the capture app even if the smartphone's screen is in lock mode. By clicking again, you can already take a picture.

USB Type-C is still a unique and new connector, which makes the Lumia 950 a very special phone in this regard.

Lumia 950 camera

Microsoft decided not to change their camera app too much, which, in my opinion, is more of an oversight. Photos are good quality in almost all light levels, but manual adjustments can sometimes be difficult as not all options are intuitive.

The Lumia 950 is capable of shooting 4K video, but video is recorded at 1080p by default. I really liked the manual macro setting, and in the camera application you can set up timer shooting, as well as set the continuous shooting mode. In addition, you can create so-called "Live Photos", which are 100% analogous to Live Photos in iPhone 6s.

Nokia 950 is a novelty of 2015, which boasts excellent performance, complete with innovative technologies. The smartphone runs on Windows 10, read more about its characteristics and customer reviews below.

Appearance

The design of Nokia 950 is rather modest, one might say, standard - a rectangular plastic polycarbonate case with rounded edges, in white or black. The smartphone is light, thin (8.3 mm) and moderately large — 14.5 cm high and 7.3 cm wide, making it comfortable to fit in the palm of your hand or in your trouser pocket.

There are all the standard physical buttons typical for Nokia (volume, unlock, camera shutter) and a standard headphone jack on the top of the smartphone.

The back cover can be easily removed and provides access to the memory card, battery and nano SIM card.

And for charging, a new USB-C cable is used; the corresponding connector for it is located at the bottom end.

Display

The 5.2-inch AMOLED screen is protected by 3 and boasts an impressive resolution of the new quad HD format - 2560 pixels by 1440, with 564 pixels per inch and 16: 9 aspect ratio. falls short - the brightness level is slightly worse than that of the latest Apple and Samsung models.

Despite this, in sunlight, you can still use the Nokia 950 comfortably.

The model has a screensaver showing the clock and notifications without the need to unlock the smartphone, as well as a one-handed operation mode - when the active screen area is halved. This makes it convenient to work with one hand.

Filling of the smartphone "Nokia 950"

The characteristics will satisfy the needs of even the most discerning user:

  • Snapdragon 808 processor - 6 cores, 1.82 GHz;
  • integrated graphics card Adreno 418;
  • RAM - 3 GB;
  • internal memory - 32 GB;
  • the possibility of increasing the memory - up to 200 GB.

All this is powered by a powerful 3000mA battery. The charge lasts for a day of standard use, and the new cable reduces charging time to just 1.5 hours (0-100%).

The model supports all the necessary communication protocols (WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth), as well as 4G and GPS.

One of the most interesting smartphone options is Windows Hello - unlocking your smartphone using a retina scan. Moreover, photos or even blood relatives cannot deceive the system - the smartphone recognizes the trick and asks for a PIN. In truth, it takes a little longer than scanning a fingerprint, but you must admit it is impressive.

The Continuum option introduces a new way of working with documents. Now you can use your smartphone instead of a desktop computer and use a special device (Display Dock) to connect a monitor or TV, mouse and keyboard to it. Now your workplace can be anywhere and its main element can easily fit in your pocket.

Two versions

Simultaneously with the Nokia 950, the Nokia 950 XL model was announced. It differs from the usual one with a large display - 5.7 inches, a Snapdragon 810 processor and a liquid cooling system that prevents the case from overheating by evenly distributing heat from the processor across all areas of the back cover.

Photo and video

The smartphone is equipped with two cameras - front (5 MP) and powerful main (20 MP with LED flash).

Under normal lighting conditions, it is easy to get bright, high-quality images with correct color reproduction. But autoexposure works inaccurately, often a good result can be achieved only on the second attempt, which is not always convenient to do.

The camera app - Microsoft Camera - lacks many of the handy settings and modes that not only rivals have, but were also included in an earlier app from the Lumia Camera 5.0 brand.

As for video, the camera can shoot it in 4K resolution - 2160 pixels, 30 frames per second. But the result also comes in different quality due to the problematic autoexposure.

Buyers' opinion

The first reviews quickly appeared on the new product - the brand's fans were looking forward to it. To view it from all sides, you can easily find a video review from one of the major electronics stores on Nokia 950.

The approximate price for a smartphone is about 45 thousand rubles. Is it really worth the money? What do customers think about Nokia Lumiya 950? Reviews on it are most often positive. This is a very good smartphone, but not perfect. It has a beautiful bright screen, large internal memory, elegant and user-friendly OS. The latter is a little damp, which causes minor glitches, but since updates are regularly released to it, this does not cause any tangible inconvenience.

The same cannot be said about the limited number of applications - yes, their number is growing rapidly, but even in the long term it will not soon equal the number of applications for Android or iOS.

The battery easily lasts a day of use and recharges very quickly.

But many buyers have noticed a significant heating of the smartphone during prolonged (more than half an hour) operation.

Also, the disadvantages include such an important parameter as the quality of calls. The interlocutor is heard with a slight echo, when switching to the speakerphone mode, the sound deteriorates significantly (and the interlocutor immediately understands that you are busy not only with the call).

The work of the camera suits most of the users, in low light the images are processed a little longer, but in general it is a good alternative to a separate compact digital camera, especially in everyday life.

Summing up

Nokia 950 is a smartphone that fully justifies its cost. If you are not embarrassed by the possible inconvenience in the form of the lack of some applications, then it is unlikely to disappoint you.

"No compromises."

This slogan has been widely used in the promotion of smartphones on Windows Phone since the beginning of their sales in 2010. But neither Nokia nor Microsoft, until recently, have ever created a truly uncompromising smartphone. Either the OS didn't support powerful processors, or, as was the case with the Lumia 1520 or 1320, there was no support for high screen resolutions. In any case, WP flagships have always lagged behind the top Android and iPhone devices.

But now, with the release of Microsoft Lumia 950, we can confidently say that the slogan “No Compromise” has finally found its true meaning. With powerful hardware, the latest Windows 10 Mobile and the ability to turn your smartphone into a desktop PC, there is simply no need for other devices.

Equipment

In the box you will find the phone, user manual, charger and USB Type-C cable.

Unfortunately, we did not find any headphones bundled with the Lumia 950, although there was hope to see them at last. To be honest, we don't like that Microsoft doesn't put headphones or headsets on their smartphones, let alone flagship models. As a rule, the headphones that come with phones are of poor quality and most people change them, but not using them at all is a manifestation of greed towards their customers.

By the way, if you pre-ordered the Lumia 950 before October 16, then most likely you will also receive the Microsoft Display Dock accessory, thanks to which you can turn your smartphone into a full-fledged desktop PC by connecting a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Design

The Nokia Lumia flagship devices featured a design inspired by the Nokia N9 smartphone, which was made entirely of polycarbonate with curved edges. All top models, be it the Lumia 920, Lumia 1520 or 930, were, in one way or another, similar to the N9.

The Lumia 950 (and this is, let me remind you, the first flagship from Microsoft) has a completely new design that defines a new look for the entire line of smartphones on Windows 10 Mobile. The appearance of the device now resembles a miniature flat-screen TV with a slightly curved back housing.

The location of buttons and connectors is familiar to Windows Phone smartphones. On the right edge of the case there is a power / camera button and a volume rocker. The USB Type-C connector is located at the bottom of the case, and the 3.5mm jack is at the top.

Removing the back cover reveals a removable battery underneath, a Micro SD card slot and a space for a SIM card.

By the way, the buttons are very pleasant to press and give a "juicy" click when pressed.

The body is completely made of polycarbonate. Without exaggeration, this is the main disappointment in the Lumia 950. Firstly, after the Lumia 930, many hoped to see a similar metal edging in the next models of the line, and secondly, even the cheapest smartphones are made of polycarbonate, and in the case of the flagship, this is a blow to its premiums.

Lumiya 950 is available in two colors - white and black. There are no bright colors, but firstly, this is a business segment and there is no place for them here, and secondly, thanks to the removable part of the case, it is possible to use colored panels from third-party manufacturers.

As for the usability, there is no definite answer here. The smartphone is very light, only 150 grams, but before you order or buy it in a store, be sure to hold it in your hands and pay attention to the ease of use and pressing the buttons with one hand.

To summarize the design, we can say this: Microsoft Lumia 950 looks very nice and fresh, but does not attract admiring glances and the attention of the crowd to itself.

Display

The smartphone screen is his calling card. It is the display that makes the first impression when working with the device. In the case of the Lumia 950, this experience will be unforgettable. The stunning 5.2-inch OLED display with 2560 × 1440 resolution and 564 dpi density will amaze you with the clarity of the picture and vivid, correct colors from any viewing angle.

The screen is made using Clear Black technology, thanks to which the image will be clearly visible even in bright sunlight. As protection against scratches, Gorning Gorilla Class 3 glass is installed, which reliably protects the display from accidental damage by keys or other sharp objects. By the way, the “fresher glass” GGC 4 is used, but this smartphone also costs more.

Special attention should be paid to the possibility of pressing the screen with any handy items. Thanks to this, he will react to the touch of his fingers with gloves, which is very convenient considering how much time of the year there is bad weather.

If you sum up the screen, then there will be only one conclusion - it is simply gorgeous, without compromise.

Performance

After a few days of using the Lumia 950, the performance is only positive. Even after installing a large number of programs that eat resources in the background, the speed of the smartphone was the same as when it was turned on “out of the box”. This is due not only to the powerful six-core Snapdragon 808 processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, but also to the beautifully optimized Windows 10 Mobile system.

Games, applications, the system - everything just flies. To be honest, it is still difficult for us to imagine in what situation the Lumia 950 will slow down and not cope with its tasks.

Perhaps, when connecting a smartphone to a monitor and using it as a personal computer, some problems may arise, but, unfortunately, we cannot check this yet, due to the absence of the Microsoft Mobile Dock accessory.

If you already have experience in connecting a screen, keyboard and mouse to the Lumia 950, then share it in the comments, everyone will be interested.

Voice communication and signals

We have already made many calls on the Lumia 950 and we can say that neither we nor our interlocutors had any problems with the connection quality. Everyone can hear each other well, and this is the main thing.

As for the sound of the melody when you call, then only positive emotions remained from it. The sound is loud, spacious and clear. This is exactly what you expect from a smartphone for 45 thousand rubles.

Camera

The flagship models of the Lumiya line have long established themselves as the owners of the finest mobile cameras in the world. What is the Lumia 1020 camera worth?

The new smartphone continues the glorious tradition. The Lumiya 950 is equipped with a 20MP PureView camera with Zeiss optics, which is one of the best on the mobile market. In addition, the camera is equipped with triple LED flash and optical image stabilization for great shots.

Photo

We have already taken quite a lot of photos and we can say that the camera did not disappoint us. Pictures are sharp and colors are correct.

Without further ado, we invite you to take a look at the photos taken with the Microsoft Lumia 950.

As for the 5-megapixel front camera, it certainly cannot be compared with the main one, but it will delight lovers of selfies and communication on Skype.

Video

Lumiya 950 can shoot 4K video. And I must admit, the videos are as good as the photos.

Special attention should be paid to shooting video at 120 frames per second at a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. In this mode, you get a slow-motion video, or as it is called in another way, “slow-mo”. Videos of this format have recently become very popular and are increasingly appearing on Instagram and YouTube.

This feature is new to Lumia devices and owes a lot to the Windows 10 Mobile operating system. We definitely advise you to try this shooting mode, you get very interesting videos.

For example, we suggest you take a look at the video below. How do you like it?

Battery

The Lumia 950 has enough battery power for a full day of active use. What does this mean? And the fact that if you listen to music throughout the day, chat on social networks, call and play, then by the end of the day your smartphone will still be “alive”. Considering the size of the screen and the size of the battery, this is a good indicator, on par with flagship models from other manufacturers.

Thanks to the USB Type-C interface, charging the Lumia 950 takes very little time. For example, with a 20% charge, in just half an hour, it was possible to recharge the smartphone to 66%. That's almost half the battery capacity in just 30 minutes! Agree, it's very fast!

The device has a processor with a frequency of 1.8 GHz, an Adreno 418 video chip and 3 GB of RAM. This is enough for all common tasks, but flagships running other operating systems are even more powerful. But, as we will show later, the Lumia 950 is the only smartphone that can cope with cooling the Snapdragon 808 under full load.

The device is running Windows 10 Mobile. Its interface will be familiar to Windows Phone 8.x users, but its internals have become closer to the "desktop" Windows 10. In addition to the aforementioned "Continuum" function, there is an opportunity to continue working with some of the few applications on a Windows 10 computer. An interesting novelty is the biometric system. Windows Hello identification, which was the first (among all platforms) to acquire support for the retina scanner. It was Lumia 950 and 950 XL users who had the chance to be the first to try this technology, as if descended from the screens of spy films. The scanner works in the infrared range and responds quickly, but does not always reliably cope with low light or scanning through glasses.

Unfortunately, the performance of Windows 10 Mobile devices is not easy to assess in cross-platform benchmarks. Instead of OpenGL, DirectX is used here, which clearly does not do well with GFXBench tests. In the Linpack test, on the contrary, the result is high. Only the BaseMark test results are more or less comparable, where the lag roughly corresponds to the expected difference in the processing power of the device. It is also difficult to uniformly measure the performance of internal memory, but according to BaseMark OS II, it is relatively high.

In everyday use, the device seems excessively fast and does a great job of everything.
