Samsung j7 dimensions. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) review: is it a worthy sequel? SAR level refers to the amount of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by the human body when using a mobile device.

The top-end Samsung budget series is the new Galaxy J7 2017. Such words sound somehow not very impressive, because the head does not link up how an "inexpensive" smartphone can cost 20 thousand rubles. But such is this J-series, the youngest line of Samsung phones. Then there is the A-series, then the S, and the J works to attract attention.

Everything is clear with the older S-series, the flagships get all the best. The A-series is the middle class, the design is from the older generation, and the filling is simpler. What, then, is the J-series? The answer to the ubiquitous Chinese smartphones, they are pushing Samsung out of a not very profitable, but very popular niche.

About design

Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 looks like a typical Samsung - no jokes or irony, just recognizable features. Here and neat contours of the case, and a branded button under the screen with a couple of keys on the sides, and a convenient screen lock button on the right side. It may be boring, but it is simple and understandable - I have no questions about ergonomics or usability. It is comfortable to hold, you can press the buttons even blindly, you won't be mistaken.

The body is all-metal, non-separable, there is no plastic in the finish at all, except for the thin strips of antennas. The Koreans took a chance and led them in a peculiar way around the body, it turned out, for my taste, original and cute.

In general, the J7 looks neat, you can't pick on the assembly, everything is in order with convenience. I would safely refer it to the representatives of the A-series, not a shameful device. This concludes the odes to Korean design, move on.

About the screen

The screen is large - 5.5 inches, glass with 2.5D effect and thin bezels. Super AMOLED impresses with a bright picture, if the eyes start to ripple with a rich palette, you can "screw up" the tones in the settings by choosing a neutral color profile.

In standby mode, the screen displays the date and time, battery level, and notification icons. It immediately becomes clear that it is time to answer the letter or look into the messenger. A simple thing, but convenient, and does not consume the battery at all. A kind of alternative to the indicator light, but only here everything is immediately clear, and the flashing of the sensor does not annoy at night.

If I scolded the budget J3 for the lack of a light sensor, then in J7 everything is in order - the sensor is in place, the brightness of the screen is adjusted automatically.

About power

There is an opinion that the main problem of Samsung is software, unimaginable in terms of brakes. Branded firmware, where no trace remains of the native laconic Android, require more and more powerful hardware. If the flagships of the S-series have at least 4 GB of RAM and the most modern processors, then the J-series has more modest makings. The Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 has an Exynos 7870, 3/16 GB of storage and shows modest results in a series of benchmarks. Among smartphones that are sold for 20 thousand rubles, you can find more powerful options. Chinese companies have shown that you can do it inexpensively and well, but Samsung saves money and is in no hurry to invest in the filling.

In other words, if you do not plan to play on the phone, everything will be fine, but if you want to play Tanchiki or something more vigorous, then you will feel how the filling hardly optimizes toys for a Full HD screen. It's a pity.

But the rest is in complete order. I mean support for 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and Samsung Pay.

The smart solution is that the phone has a separate tray for SIM cards and memory cards, so you don't have to sacrifice an additional microSD card in favor of a second SIM card. Convenient when you need a second number, on vacation, for example.

Software

Since we are talking about the brakes of the system, I’ll tell you why a smartphone is good, it cannot be woven from some shortcomings. For example, multi-window mode works here, simultaneously launch two programs at once. You can log into one application from two different accounts. Supports one-handed operation mode where the interface is compressed to a more compact size. Little things, yes, but practical things. If the shell for Android 7.0 hadn't been jammed yet and worked faster, there would be no price for it. And so, you walk around with Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and then you feel sad when you see how unhurried Samsung can be.

About the camera

Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 is a representative of a low-cost smartphone series, but its camera is very good. He has a 13-megapixel camera with fast optics - f / 1.7. The front camera is also 13 megapixels, the aperture is slightly worse - f / 1.9. The phone takes good pictures during the day: it has fast autofocus, pleasant color rendering. Again, shooting can be quickly started by double-clicking the button below the screen. Among the shortcomings, the quality of shooting in the evenings and at night is very average, there is no longer enough optical stabilization.

About sound

The media speaker was placed on the right side, the place is strange at first glance, but convenient - you cannot cover it with your palm during games or watching a video, the sound is not muffled. The sound in the headphones pleasantly surprised me, nominally, the smartphone is no different from the competitors, but in practice it plays music perfectly.

After the Meizu Pro 6 Plus, where everything is fine with the sound, the J7 2017 does not come across as an ugly duckling. Yes, the bass may not be so juicy, and the upper frequencies are not quite sonorous, but in general, the impression is very good. By tradition, Samsung has an equalizer - you can play with the settings and choose the mode to suit your mood.

About autonomy

MicroUSB for charging is somehow not ice in 2017, I want to finally switch to USB-C, and not carry a bunch of wires with me for all occasions. But manufacturers cannot simultaneously migrate from one standard to another, so the J-series has become a hostage of the situation.

The battery capacity is 3600 mAh, the smartphone does not support fast charging, the battery life is normal. The phone can withstand a day of active use, if you do not play, then you can get 2 days without any problems. If you watch the video, the smartphone shows some unrealistic numbers, it turns it without stopping the clock 16. I started YouTube in the evening, and I fell asleep with the phone working. I wake up in the morning - and J7 keeps playing video, a long-playing phone.

Why is the Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 good?

  • Nice design and materials
  • Quality camera
  • Always on
  • Separate slots for memory and SIM cards
  • The fingerprint scanner
  • Samsung Pay
  • Good battery life

Why is the Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 not good?

  • Weak filling
  • Non-fast shell
  • microUSB port for charging

Alternatives

Honor 9 costs a little more compared to J7 2017, but in terms of the filling, this smartphone turns out to be a more interesting option, it is more powerful and better tailored for games. In addition, for 22 thousand rubles, you already get a glass, not a metal case, and a system of two cameras is also an interesting thing.

I would recommend OnePlus 3, but it costs around $ 25,000. But this is already a full-fledged top-end solution, albeit last year.

For 20 thousand they sell Meizu MX6 - it will be much more powerful than Samsung, but it does not have a slot for a memory card, and it does not know how to pay for purchases in our stores.

Do not be afraid of large sizes - take the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, it is generally a fire apparatus in terms of operating time, performance, and budget in the same 20 thousand rubles.

Conclusion

I liked the Samsung Galaxy J7 2017. I don’t play games on my phone, but jerking up the menu is a matter of personal relationships. Someone bothers about this, someone does not care at all, if only the phone worked longer, and the camera took good pictures. And the smartphone copes well with these tasks. Another thing is that you can pick up a cheerful "Chinese" for the same 20,000 rubles, so again there is an eternal dilemma: either to sacrifice the filling, or to take on a more powerful competitor.

For the smartphone provided for testing, I thank the friendliest gadget store

1.33 W / kg (Watts per kilogram)

In the range of mobile devices, it is designed to become a compromise between flagships and state employees. So, recently the company presented several new products in the series, among which the greatest interest is Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017)... Yes, smartphones with this index are mid-range, and although they are not able to surprise with flagship hardware, the devices are among the most affordable from the brand, especially when you consider the interesting design.

Design features of the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017)

It is worth saying that the design in the J-series was not distinguished by originality: ordinary smartphones with rounded edges, such as the user is used to when looking at Samsung products. But in Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) the situation begins to change dramatically:

  • The frames have virtually disappeared;
  • The smartphone received a metal body and began to look more modern;
  • The antenna routing bands are not similar to those of competitors;
  • Dust and moisture protection, which the younger models of the new J-series do not have;
  • The 5.5 "" display resolution has now increased to full-size.

The last point, by the way, is a little surprising. After all, given the cost of a smartphone, it should have received fullachdy long ago. Although this is typical for the affordable segment of the company.

Refreshed body design

But the refreshed design pleases, the smartphone looks more modern. So, the front panel has changed, largely due to the framelessness. Now, the 2.5-inch curves on the sides give the impression that the display is slightly curved at the edges. The hardware Home button with a fingerprint scanner is traditionally located under the display. The back also looks interesting: the camera and flash received a single frame, which is rarely found in competitors. But most importantly, the bands for the antennas, which allow you to perform the wireless functions of the smartphone, look original. These are not straight horizontal stripes and they do not bend around the upper and lower edges, as in the latest iPhones, but rather enclose the overlays at the top and bottom.

Technical component

You can start with the fact that the smartphone has a display made according to the traditional AMOLED technology. Responsible for performance is also the proprietary Exinus 7870 processor, which is made using a 14-nanometer process technology, due to which the platform's energy efficiency should be at a high level. It is worth saying that the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) camera received one module, despite the craze of competitors with two-module solutions. For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that the module has high-aperture optics with f / 1.7, so the pictures should be at the level, albeit without the effects of blurring the background.

Today we are reviewing the senior representative of the J-line smartphone Samsung Galaxy J7 2017. Its cost fluctuates around 15 thousand rubles. Let's find out whether it is worth buying this state employee or not.

The 2017 Jay 7 is packed in a light blue / blue cardboard box with the model name in the upper left corner and the year of manufacture in the lower left corner in a nice font. On the back you can find technical data. We will actually talk about them in the future.

The package includes, in addition to the gadget itself:

  • black device;
  • user manual in Russian;
  • warranty card;
  • a clip for the SIM tray hole;
  • charger white with a capacity of 1.5 A;
  • white headphones with a microphone;
  • white USB / microUSB cable.

The package bundle for this price segment is good, but not the best.

Design

Samsung Galaxy G 7 2017 is completely made in a metal case without any plastic inserts. Actually, this innovation was applied and. Metal still looks more presentable than even the best plastic. The device even in the hand lies in a special way. But there are no comrades in taste and color. Unfortunately, there is no protection against dust and moisture, so you need to be especially careful.

But the most important changes are visible when compared to last year's J7 (2016) model. Besides the fact that it has become completely metal, now the back cover cannot be removed, that is, in fact, you get a monolithic phone. The camera module no longer protrudes above the surface, but flush with the body, which is very convenient. At the same time, he changed his appearance - from square to oval.

In terms of dimensions, we can say the following: height - 152 mm, width - 74 mm, thickness - 8 mm. The weight of the gadget is very impressive -180 grams, but in the hand it is not felt at all, which cannot but rejoice. There are several color options to choose from: black, blue and gold.

Samsung J7 2017 - not a telephone, but a fairy tale.

The assembly is perfect here, since there is no backlash or creaks anywhere, as it should be from a device from an A-class company.

Now let's move on to a more detailed look at the external parts of the gadget. On the right are the on / off button of the device and the speaker. On the left are the volume buttons and 2 slots for nano SIM cards and micro SD cards. The same system was applied in Gee 5 (2017). The company clearly understands that most owners of modern smartphones do not want to choose: whether to install 2 SIM cards or a SIM card and a memory card. This is a great solution.

On the underside of the device are USB / micro USB, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microphone. It is very strange that there is no noise cancellation. This means that during a conversation in strong winds, the noise will not be cut off. There is nothing on the top.

On the back panel there are already familiar elements:

  • camera;
  • flash;
  • Company `s logo.

The front part meets us with a 5.5-inch display. We will talk about the screen separately below. Under it there are two touch-sensitive buttons for control: running applications and the "Back" arrow. Both of them are not highlighted, which is very unfortunate. Between them is the familiar mechanical key, which in parallel serves as a fingerprint sensor. It works with a slight delay. Including the scanner will not work well if the finger is dirty or wet.

And also on the front panel there are:

  • speaker;
  • front-camera;
  • proximity and lighting sensors;
  • front flash.

Speaking separately about sound, thanks to the convenient location of the speaker on the side to the right, nothing blocks the sound if the gadget is in your pocket or on the table. The phone always plays loudly and efficiently. But if you play, then your finger strives to hit it. The sound of the bundled headphones leaves much to be desired, but that's understandable.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy j7 2017 has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 403 dpi. Last year's Ji 7 (2016) was frustrating with its graininess, because HD resolution is not enough for a screen larger than 5 inches.

All owners love Super Amoled for its deep blacks and vibrant saturated colors that can be adjusted in the settings. The minimum brightness is excellent here, so it won't hurt your eyes even in the dark. But in direct sunlight, the picture is already poorly distinguishable, which is extremely frustrating.

In general, when you buy, you get a phone with an excellent screen, which will delight you with good viewing angles and bright colors.

Specifications

J7 got hold of 3 GB of RAM, in the previous version there was only 2 GB, although in fact only 1.3 GB will be available. The built-in memory is still 16 GB, which is not enough in today's realities, but the truth is there is the possibility of expanding the built-in memory using MicroSD up to 256 GB.

The chip remains exactly the same as before - an 8-core 64-bit Samsung Exynos 7870 processor, clocked at 1.6 GHz. It does not shine in tests, but it is quite enough for smooth operation of the interface, playing games and even heavy games, though not at maximum settings. Responsible for the graphics Mali T830.

Behind the proprietary Samsung Experience shell, here it is 8.1, is hiding a version of Android 7.1, which is practically unrecognizable. Now you can set up 2 accounts for most messengers.

Autonomy

The Samsung Galaxy j7 2017 has a 3600 mAh battery, which provides its owner with 1.5-2 days of operation at medium loads. These include Wi-Fi usage, medium brightness settings, and no gaming at all, which are the most energy consuming.

Finally, gadgets begin to hold out all day from morning to evening at maximum loads without additional recharging. What is included in these loads? Included mobile internet, use of games and maximum brightness settings.

If you are used to only making calls, then you can safely count on 3 days of autonomy. To our deep regret, this model does not support fast charging, but it does not discharge so quickly, as indicated by the indicators above.

Camera

The maximum shooting of the main camera with auto focus is 13 megapixels. The front camera has exactly the same indicator (13 Mp), only here you cannot count on autofocus. Added 1: 1 image size to shoot a square, most likely for Instagram. Both cameras take great pictures during the day in good lighting. I would like to note that the front camera produces good selfies with decent detail.

Additional modes will help you to get the perfect shot:

  • Pro. In it, you can automatically add aperture and set other settings.
  • Panoramic mode.
  • Burst shooting.
  • Night.
  • Sport.
  • Sound and photo. An unusual mode where you can record sound to a photo.

The video is recorded in Full HD, but you shouldn't count on 60fps. Focuses are pretty bad too.

Peculiarities

  1. J7 now supports Always on Display, which allows you to display the necessary information on the screen. In this case, the display itself is in the off state, which significantly saves battery power (discharges the battery by 1-2%). It is, in principle, what drives the owners of an exclusive device into a dead end. Always on Display works just fine here.
  2. The fingerprint scanner works as a display unlocker. Now you don't have to press the power button to unlock the Gee 7.
  3. Supports Samsung Pay, which works through both MST and NFC. Paying in a store using your phone is very convenient and practical.
  4. From the chips, a blue filter was added.

Outcomes

Samsung J7 2017 is one of the best competitors in its price segment. And the company itself has created competition within the line, since some models are similar in technical characteristics and the differences between them are minimal.

But let's look at the pros and cons of the gadget, as they are always present in any technique.

  1. The metal body is very pleasing.
  2. The phone fits perfectly in the hand.
  3. Always on Display.
  4. Fairly fast scanner.
  1. No noise cancellation.
  2. The black version quickly becomes covered with fingerprints.
  3. Instead of 16 GB of internal storage, 32 GB would be better.
  4. Mechanical button clicks.

If you are planning to buy a device with a large diagonal, then Samsung Galaxy J 7 2017 is worth taking a closer look at.

Video

There is nothing extraordinary in the kit. Traditionally, along with a smartphone, you can get a key clip, adapter and USB cable, instructions. There is a simple stereo headset. Headphones do their job well, but still the smartphone belongs to the economy class, so the headset is not the best here either. Therefore, when buying a gadget, you should immediately look for a new accessory.

The designers have clearly tried and thought out the exterior of the case to the smallest detail. Firstly, the model is released in as many as four color options - more strict black and delicate gold, pink and blue. Secondly, the gadget has got thin, almost invisible side frames around the screen and strongly rounded corners.

Of course, the case material immediately attracts attention. Unlike most modern gadgets, this model is all-metal. There are no gaps here (in general, there are no joints of individual body parts here, in principle), which means there is no creak or backlash.

Performance inherited from last year's version

Like the 2016 J7, it uses the Exynos 7870 8-core 1.6GHz chipset. The Mali-T830MP2 video accelerator is responsible for graphics processing. Together, they allow the gadget to work pretty fast. The results of synthetic tests are not surprising - 45,000 points is quite expected for a device of this class. Nevertheless, you can safely load Tanks or any other 3D toy - the gadget will pull.

The storage is expandable via microSD, and accessories up to 256GB are supported. Interestingly, the RAM is 3 GB, which is more than enough. But with the ROM, the manufacturer was clearly greedy - only 16 GB, of which 10.5 GB is actually available.

The whole system runs on Android 7.0.1, but there are no significant changes compared to Android 7.0. All the same more convenient arrangement of icons in the upper curtain, the same minimalistic design and a set of standard pre-installed applications.

But there is also something interesting! Unlike some of the more expensive models, the smartphone has an FM radio. Also, due to the ability to use two SIM cards, the Knox function appeared. Now you can download two identical applications on one device and link them to different phone numbers. For example, set two separate WhatsApp for different SIM cards.

SuperAMOLED screen

While competitors are using IPS-displays, Samsung prefers to use improved SuperAMOLED technology even in mid-priced models. Each parameter looks advantageous - the brightness is perfectly adjusted both manually and based on the light sensor, and the color rendition is improved. Now the user himself can choose one of four modes that differ in white balance. All this allows you to experiment with the quality of the picture, achieving the perfect, comfortable picture.

The diagonal of the display is 5.5 inches, and the resolution of the picture is 1920 x 1080 pixels. On a FullHD-display, the image always looks bright, contrasting and saturated.

Another innovation that will surely delight active users is the AlwaysOn Display function. The screen always displays the current time, icons and notifications. Now, to check if an SMS has come or if a call has been missed, you don't even need to unlock your smartphone. And the main thing is that such a continuously working screen hardly consumes a charge.

Camera: front not worse than the main one

Surprisingly, in this model, both cameras have the same 13 megapixel module. The only difference is autofocus - the main camera has it, while the front autofocus does not. But the front camera offers so many different modes that you still get a good selfie.

The main camera naturally produces good footage in the daytime. In the evening and at night, the quality can fail a little - the detail is no longer so good, and the noise interferes.

Most of the settings, modes, and just switching between the two cameras here are carried out with a simple movement of your fingers. This saves precious seconds and allows you to "catch the moment" in motion. Among the modes there are already familiar and familiar HDR, landscape, panorama. But there is also an unusual Sport mode (obviously designed for fast moving objects) and Night. You can immediately apply an effect to any shot you take.

Record-breaking battery

How much lithium-ion battery is expected in a relatively budget, affordable smartphone? Most likely, about 2000-3000 mAh. Samsung provided the 2017 J7 with a 3,800mAh battery. Considering the good performance and the large screen, you can expect 13-15 hours of battery life. And if you use the gadget more moderately (for example, limit yourself to just watching a high quality video with a comfortable level of brightness), then the smartphone will last 19-20 hours.

If entertainment and games are not so important, then you can turn on the power saving mode. Then the charge reserve will be stretched for tens of hours. Perhaps such a function will be relevant when traveling and traveling, or just for people who use the phone only for its intended purpose - for calls.

Unfortunately, the fast charge function is not supported - if you need to fully charge the battery, then you should set aside at least 3 hours for this.

In the J line, the 2017 J7 is still the top and most expensive model. But we have to admit that the price is quite adequate, because for 20,000 rubles (the price at the start of sales), the user receives a reduced version of the same Samsung flagships.
