All about runes and runic writing. Slavic runes and their meaning. Application of runic inscriptions and artifacts

Ancient signs make up a single system. It has a complex effect on human energy. The rune alphabet is popular for the rituals of runic magic, attracting and enslaving another living creature. Such a system has its own hierarchy, and each symbol has its own meaning - in fortune telling, a combination of signs that change under the influence of neighboring runes is important.

The most popular rune system It is used for various purposes and is called the fastest. At one time, the runic writing developed. In parallel, similar knowledge took root among the adepts in Germany. As a result, a hybrid of different cultures, symbols and meanings was born - it formed the basis of a single runic alphabet. Such an alphabet, partly Slavic, partly Scandinavian, is used to this day.

The letters from the runes from the system are combined into 3 groups in their sound: this is how they are translated into Slavic or Russian. The meaning of the runes also directly depends on their order, pronunciation and name. Each one in a row is called ettira.

  1. First ettira. The group includes signs f, u, p, a, r, k, g, w. Runes, like Russian letters, are pronounced in double or single sounds.
  2. Second ettira. The second group of the Elder Futhark includes the letters h, n, I, j, e, p, r, s.

Ancient runic sacred alphabet

The principle of constructing the sacred alphabet was based on the fact that a certain rune-letter corresponded to each sound. Each speech sound can be pronounced differently: high, low, or guttural. This symbolically reflects three worlds: the upper thought world of Menog, the lower embodied world of Goethig, and the intermediate world of Ritag. In an ideal language, all means of pronunciation of sounds should be used so that it corresponds to the general triune principle of building the world. This principle is expressed in the moral and ethical triad of Zoroastrianism: Good thought - Good word - Good deed.

In the original Avestan language, 72 sounds were used, since each of the 24 sounds could be pronounced in three ways, that is, 24 x 3 = 72. For the exact designation of all 72 sounds, people were given a runic alphabet of 72 rune-letters. In this alphabet, each symbol could be clearly read, therefore it was absolutely clear how to pronounce a word written in runes, therefore, a sacred text composed of these words, a prayer, a mantra. The ancient Avestan language was the language of communication with God, as it was built on the sacred principle. The legend has survived that with the help of this language the most ancient Avesta was written down.

At the time of Zarathushtra, the Avestan language was still a living, colloquial speech. But even then there were two Avestan languages. One of them was relict and used all 72 speech sounds. This language was spoken by the priests - the keepers of ancient knowledge. And the second spoken Avestan language existed in a more simplified version and was used in everyday communication of people. Our distant ancestors understood that the written word sounds and is alive only as long as there is a guardian of the tradition, who clearly knows what concept this word means. Therefore, the continuity of generations and the transfer of traditions were so important.

The alphabet of 72 runes was perfect, reflecting the picture of interconnections in the world. Each rune-letter was associated with some element and corresponded to one term in the sign of the zodiac. To date, only 24 runes have survived. These runes are known to us as the magic alphabet of the peoples of Northern Europe.

During the Great Migration, the ancient Aryans began to inhabit the lands of the Iranian Highlands. They brought with them the high culture and their religion of Zoroastrianism and formed new states. In one of them - Media - there was a special priestly class of magicians who kept ancient secret knowledge. Under King Kyaxar (625–585 BC) in Media, they began to write the Avesta in gold letters on 12 thousand cowhides. This work was completed after Media was conquered by neighboring Persia and became part of the newly formed state of the Achaemenid Persian kings under King Xerxes (486–465 BC). The lists of the Avesta were placed in the royal vaults, but were lost during the conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great in 330 BC. Aristotle, who raised Alexander the Great, took away all the philosophical and scientific parts that were part of the Avesta, and everything else was burned.

In the 1st-2nd centuries AD, during the Arshakid dynasty in Persia, the restoration of the texts of the Avesta, preserved by the Zoroastrian priests in the oral tradition, was begun. However, much of the ancient knowledge that passed from mouth to mouth perished along with the priests who defended the Temples of Fire during the invasion of the troops of Alexander the Great. The work on restoring the texts of the Avesta was completed in the III-IV centuries AD during the reign of the Sassanid dynasty, when all the surviving parts were collected, depending on the content, in 21 nascs (books). To record this version of the Avesta, an alphabet of 48 characters specially developed by the priests was used, which made it possible to accurately convey the sound of the Avestan language.

Runes are often used in magical practice, but originally such symbols were used in writing. The alphabet consisting of these characters is called a futark. There are many varieties of runic sets, but Old Germanic is considered the classic.

The very name of the futark comes from the first letters of this alphabet - Fehu-Uruz-Turisaz-Ansuz-Raido-Kano. The first mentions of this set of runes date back to I-II.

He considers the Old Germanic (Scandinavian) Futhark to be the classical alphabet. However, there are many varieties:

  • Armanic;
  • Danish;
  • Icelandic;

All kinds of alphabets have a special purpose. Some are used for magical purposes only, others exclusively in writing. The Elder Futhark is considered universal - it is used both in writing and in rituals.

Classic futhark

Ancient Germanic writing is called a classic futark. There are two types of alphabet, which are classified as classical - Senior and Junior futarki. Runes of English, Icelandic and Slavic origin do not belong to the standard alphabets.

By definition, the runes of the Younger Futhark come from the symbols of the Elder. The small alphabet was practically not used for magical purposes due to the truncated number of characters.

Elder Futhark

The classic futark is the oldest rune alphabet. It is his first six characters that form the name of all runic alphabets. The Elder Futhark includes 24 runes with an image and one empty one - the sign of Odin.

These symbols were used both in writing and in many magical practices. The runes of the Elder Futhark are traditionally divided into atts (clans). Each att includes eight runes that unite the sphere of influence and the vector of influence.

The Younger Futhark is the runic alphabet based on the simplification of the Elder Futhark. The reduction of characters from 25 to 16 is due to the development of writing. Fewer characters made it easier to compose words and phrases.

The small runic alphabet has retained some of the meanings of the runes, but certain symbols have acquired new interpretations.

The number of atts was reduced to two. Their runic meaning has also changed - the first att is responsible for creation and materiality, the second means the spiritual and the unknown.

The first att of the Younger Futhark

The first eight runes personify the beginning and embodiment of ideas into reality, the cycle of changes in life. These signs indicate material values and personify the human ability to change the world:

Rune nameSymbol description
FeThe characteristic of this sign is in property and wealth. The rune also means movement, flow. According to Scandinavian beliefs, gold must be spent, otherwise it makes no sense.
UrUnlike Uruz the Elder Futhark, whose meaning personifies masculinity and brute strength, the interpretation of Ur is purification. Writing such a rune on the body allows you to heal the skin or more serious damage.
ToursAggressive sign that suppresses the will. Indicates a conflict situation, the solution of which is possible only by force.
AssThe symbol of knowledge and laws. The patron saint of the sign is Odin, in amulets it is used for inspiration in creative work and concentration.
RaidCharacterizes movement, striving, path. Protects travelers on the road. It also has influence in the legal field, helps to determine the right decision in accordance with the law.
KaunThe fundamental element of this symbol is fire. The meaning of the rune is twofold - with self-control, Kaun is a sign of hospitality and creativity, however, in the hands of an unprepared person, the symbol becomes an all-consuming conflagration. It is used as a cure rune, but in medicine it is compared to the venom of a snake - in small doses it heals, in large quantities it leads to death.
HagallPersonalizes both the creation of the world and its end. In magic, the rune is used to protect against fate. Hagall helps to evaluate events from different points of view and not to dwell on empty anxiety.
NaudThe symbol means resistance to external factors. In magic, it is used to strengthen willpower. It also helps to get out of prolonged depression.

In order for the runes of the Younger Futhark to work correctly, they must be activated using special conspiracies and rituals. It should be noted that special rites of energy exchange are suitable for staves, which allow you to activate the entire formula at once.

Second att of the Younger Futhark

The second eight runes of the small rune alphabet are responsible for communication with the spiritual world, human interaction with the Gods and the unknown. Also, symbols help define your own desires and establish harmony in your soul:

Rune nameSymbol description
IssStopping, braking all processes. Serves as protection, but at the same time fetters the wearer. Used to stabilize the situation.
ArCharacterizes fertility and yield. In the Elder Futhark, the analogue is the rune of Hyera. The main principle of the symbol is that everyone will receive what they deserve.
SolSun sign. Sol is used to attract good luck. Often such a talisman cannot be used - its power is not unlimited. Also, solar energy is not used as an evil eye.
TyrThe rune of military honor and valor also symbolizes sacrifice and victory. Helps to combine incompatible things.
BjarkanThe symbol of the cycle of Life, personifies motherhood and fertility. Used in protective magic.
MandrIt personifies the wisdom of knowing one's own personality, helps to establish social ties and establish contact with the outside world through inner harmony.
L'ogrThe rune of intuition and femininity helps to connect with the other world. The characteristic elements are Moon and Water. Often it personifies feminine wisdom and sacrament.
IrA poisonous rune that personifies longevity and protection. Grants both vital energy and power over death. Often used in love spells.

Interpretations of the runes of the small Germanic alphabet have several meanings. These letters combine from two to three runes of the Elder Futhark.

This alphabet was invented by the German historian Guido von List. The Armanic futark includes 18 runes.

A feature of this alphabet is considered to be an unusual distribution of characteristics. Also, the runes of Liszt are used in magical meditation. The Armanic futark includes the following symbols:

The first arguments in favor of the existence of the Slavic pyranic writing were put forward at the beginning of the last century; some of the testimonies given then are now attributed to the Glagolitic alphabet, and not to the "runica", some turned out to be simply untenable, but a number of arguments remain valid to this day. So, it is impossible to argue with the testimony of Titmar, who, describing the Slavic temples of Retra, located in the lands of the Lyutichi, points to the fact that the idols of this temple were inscribed with inscriptions made by “special”, non-German pyns. It would be absolutely absurd to suppose that Titmar, being an educated man, might not have learned the standard minor Scandinavian pyns if the names of the gods on the idols were inscribed by them.

Massydi, describing one of the Slavic temples, recalls some signs carved on stones. Ibn Fodlan, speaking about the Slavs of the end of the 1st millennium, points to the existence of grave inscriptions on pillars among them. Ibn El Nedim talks about the existence of the Slavic pre-Cyrillic script and even gives in his treatise pictures of one inscription carved on a piece of wood (the famous Nedimov inscription). The Czech song "Sud Lyubushi", preserved in the list of the 9th century, recalls "deski pravdodatne" - laws written on wooden boards with certain letters.

Slavic amulets made of silver with ancient symbols are usually designed to protect and protect their owner, but still, different symbols on the runes-amulets have different magical powers. Therefore, when choosing a Slavic amulet, pay attention to the specific properties of each of them.

Many archeological data also show the existence of the ancient Slavs of the pyranic writing. The most ancient of them are the finds of ceramics with fragments of inscriptions belonging to the Chernyakhov archeological culture, uniquely associated with the Slavs and dating back to the 1st-4th centuries AD. Thirty years ago, signs on these finds were identified as traces of writing. An example of the "Chernyakhovsky" Slavic pyonic writing can be used to send fragments of ceramics from excavations in the village of Lepesovka (southern Volyn) or a clay stem from Ripnev, belonging to the same Chernyakhov culture and representing a splinter. The signs, distinguishable on the skull, leave no doubt that this is exactly the inscription. Unfortunately, the fragment is too small for the decryption of the inscription to be possible.

In general, the ceramics of the Chernyakhov culture gives a very interesting, but too poor material for decoding. So, the Slavic clay vessel, discovered in 1967 during excavations in the village of Voiskovoye (on the Dnieper), is extremely interesting. On its surface there is an inscription containing 12 positions and using 6 characters. The inscription can not be translated or read, despite the fact that attempts at decryption were accepted. However, it should be noted a certain similarity of the graphics of this inscription with the pynic graphics. There are similarities, and not only similarities - half of the signs (three out of six) coincide with the pyns of Fytarka (Scandinavia). These are Dagaz, Gebo pins and a secondary version of Ingyz pony - a bomb placed on top.

Another - later - a group of evidences of the use of pyonic writing by the Slavs is formed by monuments associated with the Wends, the Baltic Slavs. Of these monuments, let us first of all point to the so-called Mikorzynski stones, discovered in 1771 in Poland. Another - truly unique - monument of the "Baltic" Slavic pyonics is the inscriptions on cult objects from the destroyed in the middle of the 11th century during the Hermanian conquest of the Slavic temple Radegast in Retra.

Runic alphabet

Like the pyns of the Scandinavian and continental Hermanians, the Slavic pyns ascend, in all, to the North Italian (Alpine) alphabets. Several basic variants of the Alpine writing are known, which, in addition to the northern Etrusks, were owned by the Slavic and Celtic tribes living in the neighborhood. The question of how exactly the Italian writing was brought to the late Slavic regions remains completely open at the moment, as well as the question of the mutual influence of the Slavic and Hermanian pyons.
It should be noted that the pyhnic culture should be understood much wider than the elementary writing skills - this is a whole cultural layer, covering both mythology and religion, and certain aspects of magical art. Already in Etpypia and Venice (the lands of the Etruscans and Wends), the alphabet was treated as an object of divine origin and capable of exerting a magical effect. This is evidenced, for example, by the finds in the Etruscan burials of tablets with the enumeration of alphabetic characters. This is the simplest type of pynic magic, widespread in the North-West of Europe.
Thus, speaking of the ancient Slavic pyonic writing, one cannot but raise the question of the existence of the ancient Slavic pynic culture in general. This culture was owned by the Slavs of pagan times; it survived, going through all, and in the era of "two faith" (the simultaneous existence of Christianity and paganism on Rusi - 10-16 centuries).

An excellent example is the widest use by the Slavs of the Pyna of Freyr - Ingyz. Another example is one of the remarkable vyatka temple rings of the 12th century. Signs are engraved on its blades - this is another pyna. Thirds of the edges of the blade bear an image of the pyna Algiz, and the central blade carries a double image of the same pyna. Like pyna Freira, pyna Algiz first appeared in Fytarka; it existed unchanged for about a millennium and entered all pynic alphabets, except for the late Swedish-Norwegian ones, which were not used for magical purposes (about the 10th century). The image of this pyna on the temporal ring is not accidental. Ryna Algiz is a pyna of protection, one of its magical properties is protection from someone else's witchcraft and the evil will of others. The use of pyny Algiz by the Slavs and their ancestors has a very ancient history. In ancient times, the four Algiz pyns were often connected so that a twelve-pointed cross was formed, which apparently has the same functions as the pyna itself.

At the same time, it should be noted that such magic symbols can appear in different nations and independently of each other. As an example, tomy can serve, for example, a bronze Mordovian badge of the end of the 1st millennium AD. from the Armievsky burial ground. One of the so-called non-alphabetic pyranic signs is the swastika, both four- and three-branched. Images of the swastika in the Slavic world are found everywhere, although infrequently. This is natural - the swastika, the symbol of fire and, in certain cases, fertility, - a sign too "powerful" and too significant for widespread use. As well as the twelve-pointed cross, the swastika can be met by the Sarmat and Scythians.

Of extraordinary interest is the only temporal ring in its kind, again vyatichesky. On its blades, several different signs are engraved at once - this is a whole collection of symbols of ancient Slavic magic. The central lobe bears a somewhat modified Ingus pyony, the first petals from the center are an image that is not yet completely clear. On the second petals from the center, a twelve-pointed cross is applied, which is, most likely, a modification of a cross from four pyн Algiz. And finally, the outermost petals bear the image of the swastika. Well, the master who worked on this ring created a mighty talisman.
