Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, we are now preparing to enter the holy days of the Lord's Great Lent. The Holy Church, caring about our salvation, with wonderful touching hymns and edifying Gospel readings, is trying to awaken us to the upcoming feat of repentance, cleansing ourselves from everything passionate, vicious, sinful, from everything that has removed us from the face of a loving God for a country far away (Luke 15, 13).

Sin is the greatest evil in the human race, depriving us of the grace of God. Every sin is abhorrent to God and deprives us of the favor of God, but there is one sin that the Lord especially abhors, - this is the sin of fleshly impurity. I apologize if I offend someone's chaste ear with a reminder of this vice. Perhaps it would be necessary to pass over this sin in silence and not say anything about it, but the fact is that in the world this vice acts with power, takes root, corrupts humanity and, of course, dooms people to perdition. Therefore, although the holy Apostle Paul writes that it is shameful to talk about this sin, nevertheless, the Holy Scriptures speak about it to protect humanity from a terrible vice, and the Holy Fathers reveal the essence of this evil in particular detail. The shepherds and teachers of the Church in their creations scourge him with great power in order to save the faithful from falling.

The sin of fleshly impurity, as opposed to chastity, is generally called voluptuousness, more often - fornication, adultery. It contains not only actions that are contrary to purity, but also voluptuous thoughts, impure desires and feelings, immodest looks, bad words, lustful kissing and touching, and in general other similar voluptuous actions contrary to the purity of our nature.

It must be said that mental and bodily purity, called chastity, were embedded in our nature during the creation of man by God Himself, which is why the first people were blameless, angelically pure, without even having a clue of sinful desires and gender difference. Therefore, the striving for purity of the soul and body is inherent in our nature, while sinful desires entered it only after the fall of man. And only purity of soul and body brings us closer to God, makes us like the purest Angels and attracts God's grace to us.

Chastity in the New Testament is among the first Christian virtues, and virginity is revered in the Christian Church as a great feat, the reward for which is the Kingdom of Heaven. All the holy ascetics of piety first of all tried to be chaste, for they firmly knew that nothing unclean and filthy would enter the Kingdom of God. Once, in a dream, two virgins of extraordinary beauty appeared to Saint Gregory the Theologian, who expressed their purest and most ardent love for him. "Who you are?" the Saint asked them. - "One of us is Purity, the other is Chastity," they answered. "We stand before the face of the Heavenly King and enjoy the beauty of heavenly virgins." See how close the chaste are to God in that eternal life!

The sin of lust in all its forms is a mortal, grave sin and is severely punished by God. Although each of us sometimes experiences a very strong attraction of our nature to the pleasures that marital union provides, at the same time, dear ones, we must remember this: God created people of different sexes and determined marital relations between them not to excite and nourish carnal desires, but exclusively for the birth of children, for the spread and multiplication of the human race. Therefore, every well-meaning person should curb and subdue sensual impulses and aspirations to the law of God in order to preserve his purity.

He who commits fornication uses his body against its purpose, against the will of God, because the will of God is to keep our body clean, and fornication violates its holiness, which is why this sin is predominantly called in Holy Scripture as filth, sin against our own body. Our bodies are members of the mysterious Body of Christ and are intended to be instruments of the life and grace of Christ, and not instruments of sin.

According to the apostolic teaching, our bodies are in a mysterious union, union with Christ, but the sin of fornication separates us from Him and destroys this union that transcends all understanding. For just as in the conjugal union, the husband and wife are still considered one body by divine establishment, until adultery ensues on someone else's side, so it also happens in the mysterious union with Christ. Although all other vices remove us from Christ, this vice simply completely destroys our union with the Lord and separates us from Him, until by true repentance we are cleansed and again join Him, the beginning and source of our life. What a dishonor, therefore, to the bodies of men, when they become members of Christ from members of fornication and deprive themselves of that glory that will be revealed in the glorification of the bodies that have preserved their integrity during the general resurrection from the dead!

It would seem that these truths are enough to see the full weight of this vice and keep oneself from it, but the holy Apostle Paul also says that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit living in us (see: 1 Cor. 6, 19). And just as the Holy Spirit dwells in clean bodies, so, on the contrary, the fornicator is a dwelling place for the devil. Listen to what the Apostle writes about this in his instructions to Christians: The will of God is your sanctification, that you abstain from fornication; so that each of you know how to keep his vessel in holiness and honor, and not in the passion of lust, like the pagans who do not know God ... Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? So, shall I take the members from Christ to make them members of the harlot? Yes it won't! Or do you not know that he who has sex with a harlot becomes one body with her? And he who unites with the Lord is one spirit with the Lord. Flee fornication; every sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body. Do you not know that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit living in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you have been bought at a price. Therefore, glorify God both in your bodies and in your souls, which are the essence of God. (1 Thess. 4, 3-5; 1 Cor. 6, 15-20).

You see what dignity the holy Apostle assimilates into our body. And we know what honor is given to the body of a Christian after his death. They burn incense before him, furnish him with burning lamps, bow to him, kiss him, sing funeral hymns, carry them in front of icons, put a cross on the grave. Why such an honor? And because the body of a Christian is revived, it is sanctified in the Sacrament of Baptism by the grace of the Spirit of God, it is the abode of the Holy Spirit.

The saints knew this and that is why they cared so zealously for mental and physical purity. They dared to die rather than defile themselves and lose their purity. Thus, a harlot once came to a well-known ascetic, the Monk Martinian, in the wilderness, under the guise of a lost, poor wanderer. Then, dressed in beautiful clothes, she began to tempt the hermit to sin, which inflamed in him a strong fleshly war. The reverend husband was already in great confusion and hesitation, but common sense overcame the temptation: he lit the brushwood heaped together and, with his shoes on, stood on it and stood until the material fire extinguished the fire of carnal lust.

Another ascetic, the Monk Ioanikos the Great, was at one time so overwhelmed by carnal passion that once, passing by a cleft in the rock where a huge serpent nested, he decided to accept death from him rather than succumb to lust and defile himself. But as soon as he touched the serpent, he immediately died, and the passion of the carnal left him.

The Holy Martyr Potamiena decided it would be better to be thrown into a cauldron of boiling resin than to surrender into the hands of her pagan lord for desecration. The sin of fornication is terribly punished by God, and one must be very careful about it. Let no one think that he is safe from falling. Many people, steadfast in soul, suddenly fell, and those who had kept their purity and integrity for a long time became so attached to carnal sin that it was difficult to expect correction from them. The Church knows examples when people endowed with the gifts of miracles, insights, prophecies, partakers of the grace of the Holy Spirit, mournfully fell into the abyss of this sin.

Some, reading the Gospel, may think that the Lord is condescending to the fornicators, and therefore to the prodigal sin. But in response to this misunderstanding, it is necessary to say the following: the Lord really treated fornicators and harlots when he saw them bringing public repentance and washing His most pure feet with their tears. He was condescending to the weakness of our nature, but He is very strict about sin: You have heard what the ancients said: do not commit adultery. But I tell you that everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5: 27-28). In the Old Testament, the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire for the fornication of their inhabitants. And many, many other examples of God's punishment for adulterers should frighten us and keep us from this vice.

By itself, this sin brings the greatest harm to man. People who enslaved themselves to him come to poverty and poverty, as can be seen in the example of the prodigal son; they upset their health, grow old and die prematurely. The incontinent fornicator destroys his spiritual strength: he loses his memory, darkens his mind and relaxes the will. And Saint John Climacus says that one who surrenders to this passion necessarily falls into insensibility, loses shame and fear of God, loses judgment and God's mercy, and, drawing upon himself the wrath of God, self-willingly casts himself into destruction awaiting all fornicators and harlots.

To protect us from prodigal falls, the Holy Fathers command us to pay attention to our very initial thoughts and desires. Since this sin arises first in thoughts, it is necessary to suppress it in the very embryo, not giving the sinful feeling an opportunity to intensify. For this, the Fathers advise to think that God is omniscient and omniscient, that not a single of our innermost thoughts is hidden from Him, that for the delight of our impure desires we will be tortured at the Last Judgment of God, when all our shameful thoughts will be laid bare before all of ours. family and friends, and what shame will envelop us then! It is necessary to suppress the flame of passionate fire at the beginning, so that it does not burn us when we no longer have the strength to fight it.

It is also necessary to move away from corrupted communities and people, not to listen to seductive speeches; especially one must beware of virgins and virgins communicating with persons of the opposite sex and talking with them.

Further, it is necessary to observe moderation in food and drink, and most of all to be afraid of wine drinking, from which fleshly passion is especially kindled. At the same time, it is impossible to achieve purity of the soul and body without first cleansing your soul of other passions: anger, vanity, pride, despondency, love of money, enmity and others like them. It is necessary to maintain humility, have a broken heart and pray to God, who alone can give strength to overcome this passion.

Truly blessed is that body that will keep itself in integrity and will be worthy of the glorification that will follow during the Universal Resurrection from the dead. And, on the contrary, worthy of condemnation and mourning is the body that self-willingly gave itself up to this impurity and, consequently, destruction. Rejoice and rejoice, all of you, dear devotees of piety, for the sake of maintaining purity, sometimes experiencing sorrows, but struggling with the attack of carnal desires, taming them out of love for the Lord, for a great reward is prepared for you for this abstinence! In the sorrows and difficulties experienced during this fierce battle, may the Hero of the Pilgrim, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Most Pure Virgin Mary, the Guide of our life, all our saints and our warmest prayer book and patron Saint Sergius, be your helpers.

Do not despair either, who have fallen for some reason. Cheer up, the doors of repentance have not yet been closed, the Merciful Heavenly Father is still waiting for the conversion of His prodigal sons. Here comes Great Lent, when the Lord is especially close to the repentant. Come to Him with tears, as the prodigal son fell, and say: "O Lord, we have sinned against You and are not worthy to be called Your children, but accept us even as Your mercenaries." And He, the Merciful, will forgive sin and, having cleansed the soul from filth, will whiten it and nourish it with the Lamb that was slain for the sins of the whole world.

Thus, everyone is called to a chaste life, people of every condition. The purity of virgins should consist in completely removing oneself from sensual pleasures, the purity of widows - in abstaining from carnal pleasures after the death of a spouse until their death, the purity of married persons - in maintaining marital fidelity and moderate use of their marital rights. For the grace of God has appeared, saving for all people, teaching us that, rejecting wickedness and worldly lusts, we live chastely, righteously and piously in this age, waiting for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2: 11-13), to whom may honor and praise be from us with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and ever. But why are so many tragedies, so many sins and so many misfortunes caused by inappropriate sexual behavior? Why is it so difficult for us to manage ourselves?

Truly, nothing would be difficult here (and there are examples of this), if not for the intervention of an outside, demonic force, the purpose of which, hiding behind a natural instinct, like a screen, is to force a person to incessantly violate both spiritual and physiological laws established by God. Demons achieve this quite deliberately, since they know much better than we do that violation of the laws of the Creator is the main reason for the departure from man of Divine grace. The latter, as mentioned above, is necessary for mastering the will of man and subordinating him to the will of the demonic.

Generations of accumulated experience shows that intemperance always leads to sad consequences both for the person himself and for the one with whom he (she) illegally entered into a relationship, but the offspring, of course, suffer most of all.

Knowing what troubles, even tragedies, the violation of the reasonable abstinence commanded by God leads to, both in the spiritual (interpersonal and social) terms, and in the spiritual; Knowing about the promised punishment for disobedience and about the moral and physical consequences of sin for the sinner himself and for his offspring, the demons make every effort to force a person to constantly sin in this seemingly natural sphere of physiology. And then it dawned on me - in my house, evil spirits started up! At first I was even afraid to be at home alone. I asked to spend the night with neighbors and relatives. But then I realized that this could not continue and that something urgently needed to be done.

I then called a psychic. A woman, dressed in a dark dress, came to me, read some kind of spell, fiddled around and left. She had to give a lot of money, but there was no point. Then I was completely upset, I even thought to move.
