All these fabrics are characterized by a simple plain weave, which allows air to pass freely and diffuses streams of light. Light airy fabrics form soft folds and do not load the window opening.

For curtains in the Scandinavian style, it is permissible to use light dim patterns along the edge, more often floral or geometric patterns.

They are able to hide the environment of the room from the view of an outside observer, but at the same time do not interfere with the penetration of the light flux through the window.

If circumstances permit, and there is no need to completely cover the window opening, design professionals recommend leaving part of the window uncurtained, moving the curtain to one side of the cornice. In this way, you can visually free up space and fill the volume of the room with air.

There are design options without curtains at all. In my opinion, this is not very comfortable.

• as pickups - strips of the same fabric as the curtain fabric;
• the window opening is not loaded with additional tulles or heavy curtains;
• to enhance the effect of impenetrability, visually simple blinds or roller blinds are used.

Choosing a Scandinavian style of curtains, there are some drawbacks to keep in mind this option:

• they do not give dense shading;
• do not allow creating a bright colorful interior;
• look rather modest in comparison with chiffon or velvet curtains;
• not suitable for lovers of palace styles;
• not intended for rooms with a mass of small elements.

How not to use Scandinavian curtains

Such curtains with strict silhouettes and a minimum of decorative details require special attention when filling the room with finishing elements. Unforgivable design mistakes can completely destroy the harmony of perception of the room's furnishings:

• combining the pretentiousness and pomp inherent in some styles, with the severity of the lines of Scandinavian curtains;
• color incompatibility of decor elements, as well as disharmony in the saturation of colors in different elements of the room decoration;
• the wrong choice of flooring - the Scandinavian style is characterized by the use of wood and the use of free-form carpets;
• an abundance of small items, wall decorations, the presence of stucco or bulky antique lamps.
