Shelf life of gypsum putty. Shelf life of gypsum putty The main features include

It is required to putty the walls under the wallpaper. Which filler is better to choose?

Does the putty have a shelf life?

I want to use dry putty.

It was bought in the summer. But I have already laid down at a temperature of -2 - -4. Is it good?

  • The choice of putty depends on the condition of the walls. If the walls have not been stripped to the slabs and the walls are relatively flat, then you can immediately use the "finishing" putty. She is the smallest fraction, lays down evenly. If you already have putty (it has not deteriorated, it is even better in the cold, as long as the humidity is not high), then it is better to take the same brand. I like Uniflot the most. It is strong even on plasterboard walls - it does not crack, but it "bites" at a price. You can take "Fügenfüller", "Vetonit", or ready-made oil and glue in buckets. If the money is very tight - take "Hercules", but it is soft. Although it will go under the wallpaper. The main thing is to choose a plaster based on GYPSUM - it is white.
  • suitable, they made us vetonite cr, first primed, then putty, sanded, primed, then glued, in general, a nightmare
  • You can take a lot of dry putty Vetanit KR for the first layer of putty and LR for the second. If the putty was in a damp place, then it is better not to use it, or when using it, dilute it with a primer.
  • If your putty is not damp, then nothing terrible. Most importantly, look at the instructions for use (application area (wet or dry rooms), application layer thickness, drying time, etc.), believe me, the result, as a rule, directly depends on how much we adhere to the manufacturer's recommendations! Good luck!!!
  • If for gluing wallpaper, then ABS will go, be sure to prime the surface before puttingty ...

What happens to the dry putty after the expiration date? Why can't you use expired (see int.)?

I bought it a long time ago, but was delayed with the repair. And it so happened that the shelf life expired several months ago. Is it possible to putty with such a mixture or is it better to throw it out? Professionals, what do you recommend?

Putty for windows

Putty of windows is a very often discussed and very sore problem for many builders. It is worth saying that even if you have basic knowledge of putty, then with a probability of 90%, your knowledge will not be enough to putty windows.

So, let's start with the fact that you need to determine exactly what type of surface the putty will be applied to.

That is, the window putty is unique for each of the existing materials. This uniqueness manifests itself more in the types of materials used than in the application technique. We choose the same window putty.

Many people write that the "Triosa" putty copes with the task very well. One person, on the notorious forum, replied in a thread about window putty. He said that after carefully removing debris and other contaminants, he applied a small, uniform layer of filler.

At the moment, the putty is already more than 3 years old, and it is still like new. So, a lot also depends on the brand of putties.

No one will argue that the best brands of putties are not those that advertise, but those that are really time-tested. Because advertising will always remain advertising, and nothing more.

She will only show one side of the coin. For a choice it is worth turning to really knowledgeable people who, so to speak, "ate the dog" in this case.

Also, a very interesting option for general putty, and not only window putty, is high-temperature putty. As a rule, it is just perfect for outdoor decoration. She, as the name implies, can withstand very high temperatures.

It can operate in very harsh weather conditions, from -35, minimum -40 degrees, up to +200, maximum +280 degrees Celsius. Very good temperature range.

Also, plaster putty falls under big questions. This usually applies to walls and ceilings. Many experts in this matter advise to putty plaster with Vetonit LR + putty.

Besides, Petrominsk is a very good option. But this, of course, is a matter of taste.

But, nevertheless, the putty, whatever it may be, and whatever it is intended for, should be put at least by a knowledgeable person.

Most of the problems associated with putty are a consequence of the "curvature of the hands" of the stacker itself. But also, do not lose sight of the putty itself. So, a very important nuance is the shelf life of the putty, since after its expiration date, it is more likely to either lie badly or not completely dissolve.

And both of them will have a very detrimental effect on the final result. So, the expiration date of the putty is one of the most important, albeit not basic, parameters that need to be checked when buying a putty. It is also worth buying a putty that is right for your type of work.

Of course, it doesn't have to be just one brand. Nowadays, to do the same job, you can find up to twenty different types of putties.

Expired putty. can be used?

Putty mixtures have a shelf life of 6-12 months. After this period, the putty will lose its properties - it sets very quickly. But if, in order to cover up a hole or install a box for sockets, you can still use it, but if you putty the surfaces, then I do not advise.

Gypsum plaster is an excellent assistant when finishing concrete, brick, plaster and plastered walls in dry rooms. Experienced people use it for rough finishing. This type of putty material is popular both with craftsmen and those who make repairs on their own.

Why putty the walls

Any wall, be it gypsum blocks or concrete structures, is uneven. Even if we are talking about a new multi-storey building, there are still small bevels and drops. Such a putty is just used to compensate for these shortcomings.

And in cases where the base also has cracks or chips, it is definitely impossible to do without puttying. The gypsum composition is also used for sealing joints, leveling the ceiling. The substance adheres well to the base.

wall putty is a guarantee of the durability of the repair

Whatever company produces gypsum putty, the composition is practically the same. The basis is made up of finely ground gypsum with the addition of components that help to penetrate into the treated surface. The composition of such mixtures is distinguished by environmental friendliness, which allows the use of gypsum putty in almost any room.

Professionals point out that this type of mixture for wall and ceiling treatment has a wide range of advantages. Let's highlight the list of the main advantages:

  • Plasticity of the material - the composition is not subject to cracking, after certain periods of time;
  • Ease of work;
  • The ability to regulate the absorption of moisture by the walls;
  • Durability;
  • The absence of components harmful to health in the composition;
  • High level of adhesion;
  • Wide range of applications. Possible finishing of walls, ceilings and other surfaces

One of the disadvantages of gypsum plaster is that it is afraid of high humidity. Therefore, it is better not to use the composition in rooms with constantly high humidity. And in places with periodically rising humidity (kitchen), install a good exhaust system.

With the help of putty, even walls with differences of 1-2 centimeters are leveled

How does the starting putty differ from the finishing

What type of filler is suitable for sealing joints and cracks? You can answer this question if you study in detail the three main types of finishing materials. Compositionally, the putty is divided into:

  • starting;
  • finishing;
  • universal.
  • The starter putty is suitable for wall and ceiling finishes. With its help, cracks and gaps are closed, the differences are evened out by a centimeter or two.

    Such a mixture is applied evenly over the surface with a layer of up to ten to fifteen millimeters. If the surface has impressive drops, then the use of putty is impractical for the reason that a too thick layer will easily fall off the ceiling or wall. Therefore, for the treatment of large differences, it is recommended to use plaster or sheathing with gypsum board sheets.

    after leveling with a finishing compound, the walls are ready for painting

    The finishing putty is used for one-layer leveling of the surface and giving it evenness and whiteness.

    The final type of wall putty is used for further painting. The composition of the finishing mixtures visually differs from the starting one in less granularity and whiteness of the material. If, after applying the starting material, the walls have a gray tint, then when covering the ceiling or walls with a finishing putty, they acquire a milky white tint.

    The universal putty is called "start-finish". It is used when leveling walls and ceilings under wallpaper. The universal composition allows you to save on the purchase of two types of materials without compromising the quality of the final coating.

    Note that the gypsum material is easy to work with. Subject to the mixing and application technologies, even a person without experience can cope with a rough wall finish.

    The company Prospectors produces mixes in bags of various sizes.

    What companies should you pay attention to when choosing a mixture

    When it comes to buying building materials to start work, then the key factor here is the choice of a manufacturer. The modern market is filled with both eminent brands and newcomers.

    And when choosing cheap goods from such companies, it is important that the quality is not worse than that of popular brands like Knauf, Ceresit, Sniezka, Perfekta, Bergauf. Of the Russian representatives, we will single out the already well-known companies Prospectors and Axton. They will be discussed further.

    When choosing a product, pay attention to the manufacturer's reviews

    When it comes to Axton putty, it is used as a versatile material for rough wall finishing.

    The composition includes fine-graded gypsum with the addition of components for high adhesion and plasticity. The pot life of this solution after mixing is one hour, so do not try to mix the entire bag at one time - such a volume of material is unlikely to be applied to the wall in just an hour. Drying time at room temperature is 20-22 hours.

    Finishing putty Prospectors in a bag 12 kg

    The company Prospectors produces putty of various compositions.

    The most popular are polymer putty and gypsum. They are rightfully called the leaders of the domestic construction market. Gypsum putty Prospector consists of gypsum, fine in fraction, with adhesive and polymer additives.

    Putty Prospectors is produced in bags of different sizes, which allows you to accurately select the required amount of mixture.

    Material consumption with a thickness of 1 mm for each square of the surface does not exceed one kilogram. The Prospector's putty in a kneaded state should be used within an hour. The time of setting and hardening of the composition on the surface is 5-7 hours after application.

    Remember that there are also counterfeit products on the market. Often, fakes include poor quality gypsum, which cracks after being applied to the surface. Such materials may also contain harmful substances not listed on the packaging.

    Therefore, try to carefully inspect the goods and demand quality certificates. Please note that gypsum mixes have a short shelf life of 6 months. After the expiration date, the mixture loses some useful properties, which will certainly affect the final result.

    Plaster putty is used for finishing various surfaces. Puttying can be done by hand without inviting specialists.

    A high-quality putty has a fine-grained structure, thanks to this, irregularities from 1 to 1.5 mm can be putty. If the curvature is greater, you must first plaster the surface.

    Characteristics of the putty

    Knauf company produces the highest quality gypsum putty, which contains polymer additives and fillers, can dry in a short time, forming a strong and smooth film on the surface. Advantages of gypsum plaster:

    • the use of such a mixture prevents the formation of cracks on the treated surface;
    • due to its vapor permeability, it contributes to the creation of a good microclimate;
    • easy to use;
    • quite hard, durable and has a long service life;
    • goes well with other materials;
    • low consumption, which is economically beneficial;
    • acceptable cost.

    Like any other building material, Knauf putty has its drawbacks:

    • sets quickly (can be attributed to the pluses);
    • difficult to sand;
    • not suitable for finishing wet rooms; in this case, acrylic putty is more suitable.

    The maximum layer of Knauf putty application is no more than 3 mm.

    Otherwise, the surface will turn out to be uneven with rises and grooves. Gypsum putty is intended for applying a thin layer to the finished surface. It creates a good basis for wallpapering, as the thickness of the largest fraction can be only 0.15 mm.

    Knauf has taken great care to ensure that its plaster putty dries quickly. You cannot cook a large amount of the mixture at once, otherwise after 30 minutes the whole mass will begin to solidify and become unsuitable for finishing.

    The fast setting is due to the plaster. It should be remembered that the container in which the solution is mixed and the tools for work must be clean. Dirt on the walls and tools accelerates the setting time of the mixture by almost 2 times.

    The shelf life of Knauf dry mix is 6 months, so you should not buy it for future use.

    Preparation of working solution

    Before starting work with putty, check the expiration date. Expired material should not be used. The finished mixture, depending on how it was mixed, can have different properties.

    The first rule when mixing: pour the powder into the water slowly, spreading over the surface of the water.

    It is best to do this with your hands, not with a trowel. You need to add the mixture until the level of the putty is slightly above the water level. Then give the mixture 2 - 3 minutes to swell.

    Stirring is done manually, without using a mixer. The mixture may appear to be liquid, but dry powder should not be added. In a minute or two, everything will work out by itself and acquire the desired consistency.

    In no case should the remains from the spatula be added to the bucket with the working mixture. This leads to a reduction in the working time of the solution and the formation of lumps.

    Preparation for work

    For puttying, you will need the following tools:

    • rule;
    • metal spatula;
    • container for mixing the mixture;
    • water spray;
    • spatula or trowel.

    Before buying Knauf material, you should decide on the type of putty.

    Depending on the stage of the work performed, it can be universal, starting or finishing. This is usually indicated on the packaging. It is necessary to study the technical characteristics of the material.

    To prepare the surface for work, it is necessary to remove old wallpaper, paint, clean the walls from dirt, greasy and rusty spots. If there is mold, remove it with special agents that contain antiseptics.

    The walls must be treated with a primer, which is selected depending on the type of base. It is recommended to apply 1 - 2 coats of primer.

    Then you should dilute the putty and get to work. It is important not to forget to periodically stir the composition during operation. Sometimes you can add a little water so that the mixture retains its plasticity and does not solidify for a while.

    Do not allow the composition to come into contact with the eyes or skin. If this happens, rinse the affected area with plenty of warm water. It is recommended to carry out the work in special clothing; it is also necessary to use skin protection products.

    Surface application

    Puttying is carried out using spatulas of different sizes. A portion of the Knauf mixture is applied to a larger spatula with a small spatula, then rubbed over the surface with an even layer.

    The applied layer should dry within 1 - 2 days. Next, to level the surface, sanding is performed using fine-grained emery paper. The final stage is the application of decorative facing material (plaster, painting, whitewash, wallpaper, etc.).

    In order to efficiently prepare the surface for any type of finishing work, you need to level it.

    This can be achieved with the correct filler and primer. In this matter, it is important to skillfully use the tools and follow the recommendations for implementation.

    Hello dear visitors! This time we will get acquainted with the whole phenomenon in the world of finishing materials. The hero of the day today will be putty, whose name has long become a household name for masters - Vetonit putty (weber.vetonit LR +).

    Now in hardware stores there are dozens, if not hundreds of types of various putties: gypsum, cement, polymer. But two brands stand apart, they are available always and everywhere, and they have been producing them for more than a dozen years. Yes, the first one is Vetonit. What is the second one? If you are a decorator, you probably know the answer.
    This is Sheetrock. There will also be a separate article about him. This thing is very, very high quality. In order not to miss the material about, subscribe to updates, the post will be very useful for everyone!

    But for now, we are talking about the product weber.vetonit LR +.

    This is what they mean when they say "vetonite". This is a finishing putty on a polymer binder. What does finishing mean? And the fact that after its application there are already wallpaper and / or painting, that is, finishing coatings.

    In other words, this mixture forms a high quality finish, ready for painting and wallpapering. As for the binder. Any building mixture consists of an aggregate and a binder. The aggregate is usually sand, limestone is what forms the bulk of the composition. And the binder holds the aggregate particles together and, naturally, provides adhesion to the base surface. In this putty, the binder is a kind of polymer glue, and limestone is the filler.

    Our hero is produced by Weber-Vetonit, part of the Saint-Gobain group. Packaged in paper bags of 25 and 5 kg.

    Basic properties

    The purpose of this putty mixture is to level walls and ceilings in dry rooms before wallpapering and painting. It is used on all kinds of smooth surfaces made of mineral materials and drywall. Formally, it has a white (in practice, slightly grayish) color, as well as its own weak specific odor.

    By the way, it costs in our village (Ryazan is called, they may have heard) in the region of 650-700 rubles per 25 kg.

    It should be remembered that it is not moisture resistant, not suitable as a base for laying tiles and as an adhesive for anything. For example, some people manage to glue ceiling plinths on it. This cannot be done. Its structure is rather loose and fragile, which, however, does not affect its ability to hold wallpaper on itself, but it can play a fatal role in attempts, for example, to seal the joints of sheets of plasterboard with it.

    The water consumption is 9 liters per 25 kg bag. The mixture is stirred with a drill or perforator with a mixer until sour cream, after which it is allowed to brew for 10 minutes. This time is needed for better dissolution of the binder. It is noticed that after these 10 minutes the mixture thickens a little. Then it is re-mixed.

    Again, a separate article will be published about the technique of plastering walls and ceilings, the topic is very important, so subscribing to updates is a sacred thing!)) The article will contain a couple of my know-how, and I will just use Vetonit. Now is the time to find out what are the secrets of his popularity?

    The main advantages of weber.vetonit LR +

    I counted three of them:

    1. Ease of application with almost complete absence of layer drops. If desired and with the proper skill, you can putty the surface under the wallpaper so that no sanding is required at all.
    2. If necessary, the putty is very easy to grind due to its somewhat looseness. And this is very important. For example, gypsum (a universal putty from Knauf) is polished just as hard as a star. When I first tried Vetonit after him, I was amazed - no effort.
    3. Surprisingly long lifespan. If you have mixed too much putty and do not have time to use it all, just cover the container with a lid. The next day she will be waiting for you in the same state in which you left her. It has been verified that for 2-3 days she calmly waits for her hour in a bucket, ready to go. You just need to mix it one more time.

    There is, of course, the hero of the article and a drawback. This is the lack of moisture resistance.

    Let's say we are gluing wallpaper. They glued the strip, when suddenly they noticed a jam or a bubble that just couldn't be smoothed out. You need to remove and re-glue. So, there is some possibility that the strip will be partially removed along with the putty. Honestly, this has not happened to me yet, because I carefully primed the surface before and after the putty, plus, I apply it in a certain way so that it lays down more tightly. But such cases are known. But I don't know any other shortcomings.

    Unless I can recommend using it for painting. Still, his fraction is too large for this, and visually the surface turns out to be coarser than when using Sheetrock. But I am a sophisticated user, and for you such a surface is likely to be more than acceptable. Once I had to paint the ceiling on the loggia along Vetonit (there was no choice), I carefully sanded it and covered it with two layers of white paint. From the floor, I could not see even the slightest defects. Here is this ceiling:

    It is usually sufficient to apply the filler in two coats. The first trims the surface a little, the second finishes. Moreover, the second layer is applied only when the first is completely dry. If applied to a minimum, drying takes 3-4 hours. A 5 mm layer will dry for at least a day.

    Conclusion

    Putty Vetonit is definitely popular for a reason. When preparing the surface for wallpapering, I only use it. If you screw it up a little somewhere - once or twice with a grinding bar, and that's it, it's in the bag. I didn't have time to use up the bucket - I covered it, the next day I came and finished it off. The very thing for the finisher. Recommend.

    does the putty have an expiration date?
    • There is no shelf life. If it is dry, it is diluted with a little water, mixed well and used for its intended purpose.
    • If it's not dry, then it's good ...
    • the main thing is that it is stored correctly. as they say: I keep loyalty to my own bride in a cool dry place!
    • If it is ready, it may dry out or even rot. If it is dry, as it is almost always now, then if the bag is not wet and it does not become firm, then you can use it.
    • Look on the packaging, each has its own expiration date.
    • yes about 10 years

    Building mixtures (putties, etc.) stood on the loggia for 4 years. Can I use them or throw them away?
    • In principle, you can. But gypsum mixes can quickly harden / 5-10 minutes /
    • It is necessary to check, putties / loose / if not saturated with moisture, then they are suitable.

      Cement-based plasters, if they have not turned to stone, use.

    • Unlikely
    • if you don’t become a monolith, try
    • Dry mixes, if left "dry", are quite suitable. the ready-made mixtures are frozen, discard.
    • well, if they did not get wet and did not turn into stone, then you can
    • To be thrown out. They became like alabaster.
    • putty, if it is suitable without lumps. For the bag, in any case, throw it. Sift the cement. Grout will do.
    • Throw it out, the shelf life has expired, when kneading such a putty or gypsum plaster, they will solidify like gypsum.
    • if you don't grab
    • Additives that retard the setting of gypsum and alabaster could have become unusable. Therefore, it is necessary to check the curing time. If it corresponds to the declared characteristics, you can work. If not, then you can slow down the drying by adding flour or brewed starch to the mixture. But this is by poking ...
    • Can be used!!! but for example, for sealing some holes, for unrelated ones (plugging holes in the toilet in the country house) for it is not desirable, the frost spares nothing
    • each bag must have an expiration date written, for putty mixtures it is somewhere 6-12 months, after this period it will lose its properties, checked it myself, it sets very quickly, so in order to cover up a hole or install a box for sockets, you can still use it, but if you produce surfaces, then don't even try, only the tool will get stuck!
    • Throw it away. There is no need to risk wasting efforts, provided that the result is not guaranteed, even if everything lies on the walls, that is, there is a risk that the service life will be too small. For example, rotbant plaster has a shelf life of 6 months.

    • The shelf life of bulk materials is two years, then it is practically impossible to work with them.

    In winter, before sampling, it is allowed to warm up the putty paste in a tightly closed container at a temperature not exceeding 60 ° C.

    3.2. Sample preparation for testing

    The elasticity of the putty coating during bending is determined on plates of black tin according to GOST 13345 with a thickness of 0.25 - 0.32 mm and a size of 70 "170 mm.

    Moisture absorption is determined on aluminum plates in accordance with GOST 21631 or GOST 13726 with a size of 50 "50 mm and a thickness of 0.2 - 0.3 mm.

    The rest of the indicators are determined on plates made of steel grades 08kp or 08ps according to GOST 16523 with a size of 70 "150 mm and a thickness of 0.8 - 0.9 mm.

    For applying putties, unprimed plates are used, prepared in accordance with GOST 8832, section. 3.

    The conditional and mass fraction is determined in the putty paste. To determine the rest of the indicators, the putty paste mixed with the hardener, as indicated in clause 1.2.2, is kept for 15 - 20 minutes before being applied to the plates.

    The putty is applied to the prepared plates with a spatula using a special device.

    The device for applying putties (Fig. 1 - 4) consists of a steel plate, to which are attached four staples with persistent lugs, a clamping steel frame and stencils of various thicknesses. The surfaces of the slab and frame must be sanded.

    The prepared plate is tightly clamped between the plate and the stencil using a frame and persistent lambs and putty on it with a metal spatula to the edges of the stencil, removing the excess. The size of the cutout in the stencil is 50 "130 mm.

    For applying EP-0010 and EP-0020 putties, a stencil with a thickness of 0.5 mm is used.

    After drying, the thickness of the putty coat should be no more than 350 microns.

    The putties are dried at the temperature and for the time indicated in the table. 1.

    Putty applicator

    Before hot drying, the plates with the putty applied are kept at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° С for 1 hour.

    After baking, the plates with the putty applied are kept at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° С for 3 hours.

    In case of disagreements in the assessment of EP-0010 and EP-0020 putties according to indicators 1, 5, 6 and 7 of the table. 1, the plates are dried at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° С for 24 hours.

    3.3. The appearance of the putty coating is determined after it has dried visually, by examining the surface of the putty coating before and after sanding in diffused daylight.

    Grinding (when the plates are wetted with water) is carried out with a grinding sandpaper of grain size No. 4 - 6 according to GOST 6456 or GOST 10054.

    3.4. The conditional viscosity of the putty paste is determined according to GOST 8420. Before determination, the putty paste is diluted with toluene according to GOST 9880 or GOST 14710 in the ratio by weight: 1 part of the solvent and 4 parts of the putty paste.

    3.5. The mass fraction of non-volatile substances is determined according to GOST 17537.

    A sample weighing (2.0 ± 0.2) g is heated in a drying oven at a temperature of (120 ± 2) ° C. The first weighing is carried out after 3 hours of drying. Subsequent weighing is carried out every 30 minutes until constant weight is reached.

    The mass fraction of non-volatile substances is allowed under an infrared lamp at a temperature of (120 ± 2) ° С.

    In case of disagreement in the assessment of the mass fraction of non-volatile substances, the determination carried out in the drying oven is taken as the final result.

    3.6. Determination of flexural elasticity

    The elasticity of the putty coating in bending is determined on a device for determining the elasticity of putties (Fig. 5).

    The device consists of a metal plate to which half-cylinders with a diameter of 100 and 50 mm are attached, a movable frame with a pressure roller for pressing the plate to a cylindrical surface, a fastening screw and a wooden stand.

    The plate is fixed with one end on the device using a fastening screw and, when the frame is lowered to a horizontal position, it is pressed against the cylindrical surface with a roller. The test is carried out on three samples.

    A putty is considered to comply with this standard if, when bent along a half-cylinder with a diameter of 50 mm, no cracks appear on its surface, which are visible without magnifying devices.

    Cracks at a distance of up to 15 mm from the edges of the filler are not taken into account.

    3.7. Ability to grind

    After drying, the surface of the putty is sanded with a water-resistant sandpaper of grain size No. 4-6 in accordance with GOST 10054, GOST 6456 or GOST 5009. Sanding is carried out evenly over the entire surface, wetting it with water. After sanding, the surface of the putty is washed with water and wiped dry with a soft cloth.

    A device for determining the elasticity of putties during bending

    A putty complies with this standard if, after sanding for 15 minutes, it does not soak and forms an even matt surface.

    3.8. Determining the shelf life of putties

    3.8.1. The shelf life of putties when applied by pneumatic spraying is determined in accordance with GOST 27271.

    For testing, take (150.0 ± 0.2) g of EP-0010 filling paste, add (12.75 ± 0.2) g of hardener No. 1 or (4.5 ± 0.2) g DEET, and on (150 , 0 ± 0.2) g of EP-0020 filling paste - (12.75 ± 0.2) g of hardener No. 1 and mix thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Then the mass is diluted to a viscosity of 18 - 20 s using a VZ-246 (or VZ-4) viscometer with a nozzle diameter of 4 mm with one of the solvents specified in clause 1.2.3, and kept in a tightly closed container at a temperature of (20 ± 2 ) ° C for 6 hours, after which it is thoroughly mixed and the viscosity of the putty is determined again.

    The putty is considered to comply with this standard if, after the specified time, the viscosity does not exceed 40 s.

    3.8.2. To determine the shelf life of putties when applied with a spatula on (100.0 ± 0.2) g of EP-0010 putty paste, add (8.5 ± 0.2) g of hardener No. 1 or (3.0 ± 0.2) g DEET, and on (100.0 ± 0.2) g of EP-0020 filling paste add (8.5 ± 0.2) g of hardener No. 1, mix thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained and keep in a tightly closed container at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° С for 1.5 hours.

    A putty is considered to comply with this standard if, after the specified time, it can be easily applied with a spatula, without curling under it.

    3.9. Determination of moisture absorption

    The test is carried out in accordance with GOST 21513. To determine moisture absorption, EP-0020 putty is applied with a spatula according to a stencil and dried at a temperature of 65 - 70 ° C for 7 hours. The thickness of the dried coating should be no more than 350 microns.

    4. TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE

    4.1. Transportation and storage of EP-0010 and EP-0020 putties - in accordance with GOST 9980.5.

    5. MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTIES

    Mixing

    A bag of dry mix (25 kg) is mixed with 8-9 liters of clean water. Mixing is carried out with a powerful drill with a nozzle for 3-5 minutes. For better dissolution of the binder, the mixture is allowed to settle for about 10 minutes. After light re-mixing, the mixture is ready to use. The mortar mixture is suitable for use within about 2 days from the moment of mixing with water. Unused mortar should not be left in mixing containers, hoses, etc. for more than 2 days (for example, on weekends).

    Attention! Do not pour the mortar mixture down the drain so as not to clog the pipes.

    Completing of the work

    The mortar is applied mechanically by spraying or by hand using a steel spatula. For full leveling use a steel trowel 80 cm wide, for partial leveling a smaller steel spatula 30 cm wide. Remove excess mortar and reuse. The ceiling after spraying with the putty can be left without further processing. If the alignment is carried out in several layers, it is necessary to make sure each time that the previous layer is completely dry (within 1 day). The dried surface is sanded with fine sanding paper after each layer.

    Tool cleaning

    Work tools and equipment are washed with water immediately after the end of work.

    Finishing the surface and additional recommendations

    The leveled and dry surface can be painted or wallpapered according to the wallpaper or paint manufacturer's instructions.

    If dirty spots appear, the surface can be gently wiped off with a damp sponge or cloth. If the stains persist, the surface can be repainted with a putty.

    Useful Tips

    To increase adhesion to painted surfaces and to improve the wear resistance of the material, 10% of the mixing water can be replaced with Vetonit Dispersion (approx. 0.8–0.9 l Dispersion / 25 kg dry mix). Before starting leveling work, make sure that the adhesion of the old paint to the substrate is good.

    Packaging and storage

    Putty Vetonit LR Plus is supplied in bags of 25 and 5 kg. Shelf life in a dry place in unopened packages - approx. 12 months from the date of manufacture.

    When a finishing putty is needed, many people prefer Weber products, choosing a mixture labeled Vetonit LR. This finishing material is intended for interior work, namely: for finishing walls and ceilings. However, one putty is not enough for a high-quality coating. The process of its application has a number of nuances that everyone who decides to use this plaster should know.

    Peculiarities

    Vetonit LR putty is a product for the final leveling of building envelopes. It is a plaster mixture on a polymer adhesive base, which is intended for finishing dry rooms. It is a powder-type material with a fine fraction and is available in 25 kg bags. The mixture is a semi-finished product, as it needs to be diluted with water before the direct application process. It has a basic white color, which allows you to change the shade of the plaster coating at the request of the customer.

    It cannot be used to decorate the facade, since the composition is not designed to withstand moisture and other weather factors. It is the composition that does not allow the use of this mixture on bases that can deform. It cannot be used to decorate wooden houses that shrink during operation. Such a putty is also not applicable in apartment buildings with a high humidity coefficient. In such conditions, it will absorb moisture from the outside, peel off from the base, which will be accompanied by cracks and chips.

    Due to its poor resistance to water and fumes, such material can not be used in every room. For example, it is not applicable in a bathroom, kitchen, bathroom, on a glassed-in balcony or loggia. Condensation is the worst enemy of such plaster. Today, the manufacturer is trying to solve this problem by releasing varieties of LR putty. In contrast to them, it consists of polymers, intended for plastered and concrete substrates.

    A distinctive feature of the material is the different number of application layers. For example, LR is applied in one layer, therefore, complex multi-layer decorative coatings are not made from it, as this can affect the durability of operation, despite the quality characteristics of the raw materials. She is not equated with large differences: the composition is not designed for this.

    • cement-lime;
    • gypsum;
    • cement;
    • drywall.

    The material fits well not only on a rough, mineral, but also a smooth surface. In this case, the application, in addition to manual, can be mechanized. This will save part of the composition, apply it quickly, which will eliminate the visibility of joints: such a surface will look monolithic. The spraying method involves applying the composition to porous plates.

    However, Vetonit LR is not suitable for the floor, which is sometimes done by would-be finishers. You cannot use it as an adhesive for the ceiling plinth: this mixture is not designed for weight load, it is not universal for all the needs of the master. You need to buy it strictly in accordance with the information indicated by the manufacturer on the label. This putty is not a base for the tile, as it will not hold it. In addition, it is not a sealant: it is not purchased for sealing gaps between gypsum boards.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    As with other plastering materials for finishing floors, Vetonit LR putty has its pros and cons.

    • It is created on modern equipment using new technologies, which increases the quality and performance of the material.
    • It is easy to use. It is not difficult to apply the material to the floors, the mass does not stick to the trowel and does not fall off the base during operation.
    • With a small thickness of the applied layer, it trims the base, smoothing out minor irregularities of the starting level.
    • Environmental friendliness is inherent in the material. The composition is harmless to health, the coating will not emit toxic substances during operation.

    • Fine-grained mixture. Due to this, it is uniform, has a pleasant texture and smoothness of the finished coating.
    • In some cases, with sufficient work experience, it does not need to be additionally sanded.
    • It is economical. At the same time, due to the powder form, it practically does not form an overrun. Portions can be diluted in portions to eliminate excess mixture.
    • The composition has a long life cycle. After preparation, it is suitable for work during the day, which allows the master to complete the finishing without haste.

    • The material has noise and heat insulation properties, despite the thin layer of application.
    • It is suitable for further finishing surfaces for painting or wallpapering.
    • The mixture is available to the buyer. It can be bought at any hardware store, while the cost of finishing putty will not hit the buyer's budget due to its economy.

    In addition to the advantages, this material also has disadvantages. For example, Vetonit LR putty must not be re-diluted. From this, it loses its properties, which can negatively affect the quality of work. In addition, it is important to take into account the storage conditions of the dry mix. If it is in a room with high humidity, it will become damp, which will make the composition unsuitable for work.

    Vetonit LR is picky about the substrate. The putty will simply not adhere to surfaces that are not properly prepared. On the vastness of the World Wide Web, you can find reviews talking about poor adhesion. However, few online commentators describe preliminary preparation, considering it a useless stage, a waste of time and money. They also ignore the fact that there should be no drafts in the room during work.

    In addition, they exceed the application layer, believing that the mixture will withstand everything. As a result, such a coating turns out to be short-lived. A prerequisite that the manufacturer pays attention to is the compliance of the characteristics of the material with the construction work. This mixture does not level the base, it does not mask serious defects, which are not thought of by newcomers in the field of repair and decoration.

    If the rules of preparation are not followed, difficulties may arise in further work with such a basis. For example, according to the opinions of the masters, when trying to paste wallpaper, the canvas can be partially removed with putty. It is necessary to enhance adhesion, even if the base looks good, and the overlap is made according to all the rules of construction and does not have a porous structure with crumbling. Sometimes an ordinary buyer with a limited budget may not like the price of a large bag (about 600-650 rudders), which forces him to look for cheaper analogs on the market.

    Views

    Today the line of Vetonit LR filling materials includes the varieties Plus, KR, Pasta, Silk, Fine. Each modification has its own characteristics and differs from the base material. Materials are divided into two categories: for finishing walls for wallpaper and painting, as well as mixtures for perfect leveling (superfinishes for painting). However, under constant humidity conditions, these coatings can turn yellow over time.

    Weber Vetonit LR Plus, Weber Vetonit LR KR and Weber Vetonit LR Fine are polymeric interior fillers. They are superplastic, imply application in a thin layer, are distinguished by simple mixing of layers, which is convenient, since working with such plaster will save time and is suitable even for a beginner in the field of repair and decoration. The materials are easy to sand, are characterized by their pure white color and are a good base for painting. The disadvantage of Weber Vetonit LR Plus is the fact that it cannot be applied to previously painted surfaces.

    Analogue Fine cannot be used for wet rooms. Silk is distinguished by the presence of finely ground marble. Weber Vetonit LR Pasta is a ready-to-use finishing polymer filler. It does not need to be adjusted or diluted with water: it is a mixture in the form of a sour cream-like mass, which is used immediately after opening the plastic container. It allows you to obtain a perfectly smooth surface and, according to the manufacturer, has an improved hardness after drying. In other words, it is a crack-resistant, scratch-resistant putty. Its layer thickness can be ultra-thin (0.2 mm).

    How to calculate the expense?

    The consumption of material applied to the wall is calculated in kilograms per 1 m2. The manufacturer sets its own consumption rate, which is 1.2 kg / m2. However, in reality, the rate is often at odds with the real expense. Therefore, you have to buy raw materials with a margin, taking into account the formula: norm x facing area. For example, if the wall area is 2.5x4 = 10 sq. m, putties will need a minimum of 1.2x10 = 12 kg.

    Since the indicators of the norm are approximate, and in the process of work, a marriage is not excluded, it is worth taking more material. If the putty remains, it's okay: it can be stored dry for up to 12 months. In addition, we must not forget that the application layer is actually more than the one recommended by the manufacturer. This will also affect the overall consumption. Therefore, when buying, it is important to pay attention to the recommended thickness.

    Preparation of the solution

    The instructions for preparing the putty are indicated on the package itself.

    The manufacturer proposes to breed the material as follows:

    • prepare a clean and dry container and a drill with a mixing nozzle;
    • about 8-9 liters of clean water at room temperature are poured into the container;
    • the bag is opened and poured into a container;
    • the composition is stirred with a drill with a nozzle until homogeneous for 2-3 minutes at low speeds;
    • the mixture is left for 10 minutes, then re-stirred.

    After preparation, the composition will gradually begin to change its properties. Therefore, despite the assurances of manufacturers that it is suitable for days to two with sealed packaging, it is worth using it immediately. Over time, its consistency will change, the mass will become thick, which can complicate the facing of surfaces. The putty dries in different ways, which also depends on the conditions in the room at the time of work.

    Application methods

    The plaster can be applied manually or mechanically. In the first case, it is collected on a trowel in portions and stretched over the surface, using a rule, as well as a trowel. This option is especially relevant if the customer uses plaster as a decorative coating. In this way, you can mix different shades of the mixture with each other, making the base look like marble. However, their overall thickness should be kept to a minimum.

    The second method is convenient in that it allows you to complete the work in a short time. To do this, you can use a sprayer with a large nozzle, some craftsmen manage to apply such a putty with a home-made construction hopper bucket. The bucket is emptied in seconds, and the compound can cover an entire room in a short time. The mass is stretched over the surface by the rule. This method is convenient when a large amount of work is planned.

    Analogs

    Sometimes an ordinary buyer is interested in how to replace the company's finishing putty so as not to lose in the quality characteristics of the material. Specialists in the field of construction and decoration offer several options for plastering material.

    Among them, products of the following brands were highly appreciated:

    • Sheetrock;
    • Dano;
    • Padecot;
    • Unis;
    • Knauf.

    These materials have characteristics that are similar in quality and application. However, experts note that in an attempt to save money, you can lose in quality, because the difference between analog and Vetonit will be small. If you choose a gypsum-based analogue, such plaster will not be moisture resistant. Some experts are sure that if you have the skills, you can work with any finishing plaster. Reviews of builders are contradictory, because each master has his own priorities.

    So that there are no problems in working with the putty, you can take into account the main nuances of preparation and application tricks.

    Usually, preparation according to all the rules looks like this:

    • the room is freed from furniture;
    • carry out a visual inspection of the coating;
    • I remove the old coating, grease, oil stains;
    • dust from the surface is removed with a semi-dry sponge;
    • after drying, the base is treated with a primer.

    These are the basic steps for basic material. At this stage, it is important to choose the right primer, since the leveling of the floor structure and the level of adhesion of all layers will depend on it. A primer is needed so that the starting and then the finishing material does not fall off the walls or ceiling. The base is treated with soil with a higher penetrating ability. This will make the structure of the walls uniform.

    The primer will bind dust particles and micro-cracks. It is applied with a roller on the main part of the floors and with a flat brush in corners and hard-to-reach places. The application should be uniform, since when the primer dries, a crystal lattice will form on the surface, which enhances adhesion. After the primer has dried, the surface is leveled with starting material. If necessary, it is trimmed after drying and then re-primed. Now for bonding the starting and finishing layers.

    For example, to prevent the putty from sticking to the trowel, you should not use a wooden spatula. It will absorb moisture, and with it, the mixture itself will be retained on the working canvas. If the area of the room is small, you can try a 30 cm wide metal spatula or a two-handed tool. The mixture should not be applied to damp floors. You need to dry the wall (ceiling).

    Antiseptic treatment is also important. For example, to exclude the formation of mold and mildew on the surface of the wall or ceiling being trimmed, the floors can be initially treated with a special compound. In addition, in the process of work, it is important to observe the temperature conditions in the room. If the plaster mix is applied in several layers, it is important that their thickness is minimal.
