Nevertheless, today the nautical style is beginning to gain its former popularity again, offering unique and interesting solutions for arranging your home.

Design features

The marine theme obliges you to adhere to the following rules in the interior of the room:

A certain unity is characteristic of the style direction. However, this does not exclude the possibility of using a large number of different accessories and decorations that will help to achieve the feeling of adventure;
The primary colors, of course, are blue with white, although small additions with other shades are possible. With the right approach, you can achieve original solutions in combination with red, brown and orange;

A mandatory attribute for a marine interior is natural wood, which will be present in various decorative components, on the floor, in furniture and other things.

Marine style requirements

In addition to the above rules, the finished design forces you to follow certain canons. Professional designers do not recommend neglecting the following points if you want to end up with the most harmonious and stylish design:

Indoors in a nautical style, whether it is a living room or a bedroom, the plants should have delicate white flowers with large leaves;
From finishing materials, it is permissible to use only natural: metal, linen, wood, cotton, etc .;
The design of the ceiling surface must certainly be combined with the wall decoration, starting with the general shade and ending with the material. Moreover, if the walls are covered with wallpaper, then the ceiling should also be decorated with them. If desired, the material can be replaced with white paint or plaster;

Maritime-style interiors often offer all sorts of themed items and wickerwork. Among the first, a coconut fiber mat and accessories decorated with rope are usually present in the room. In the second case, bamboo, rattan, straws and vines are used;
For wall decoration, plaster and paint with characteristic white or blue tones have recently begun to be used. Moreover, the design of surfaces can be both with marine motives and monochromatic;
In the case of flooring, wood is considered ideal. Carpets and painted boards will complement the marine style.

Speaking of a veranda or a bathroom, an excellent solution would be to use tiles with a matte surface in marine tones.

Color palette

As for the color, then, of course, the design style will consist of the shades of the sea. It is very important to get the association with the sea wave, the sun and the beach due to the color. This is not so difficult to achieve if you correctly use beige, soft blue, coral, blue, white and yellow shades in the interior, which in themselves are associated with water, sea, sand and corals.

Use of textiles

As in the case with, any fabric in the design of a room in a nautical style should be only natural, be it a tablecloth on the table or a cape or curtain decorating the window.

You can bring some exclusivity to the interior by using fishing nets, net curtains, canvas or raincoat fabrics, as well as linen and cotton.

If you plan to place dividing curtains or a screen in the room, then it is better to take for this light and airy fabrics.

About two-thirds of the total number of textiles should remain white, while the rest of the materials should be placed as small accents in typical marine colors. Thus, it will turn out to achieve a more advantageous combination against the white background.

Decorative pillows should be decorated with the same fabric that is already available in the interior of the room, only in a more restrained manner! Alternatively, you can use stripes in the style of "sailor", which in turn can be either vertical or horizontal white-red or white-blue colors.

A rather bold, but no less effective solution will be the use of patterns and images in a marine style.

Placement of pieces of furniture

Any style of interior provides pieces of furniture on which you can relax and unwind in the future. For a nautical style, it is worth choosing furniture based on the following considerations:

As already noted, only natural materials can be present in the interior. Wood is best used for furniture. Analogs like MDF panels cannot be used!

If you are very limited in funds, then experts advise to furnish the room with a minimum amount of furniture, so as not to ultimately give up the "natural" style.

Ideal for nautical design would be artificially aged furniture;
To achieve a certain affinity with the colonial style, it will turn out thanks to rattan wicker furniture;
Tables, sofas and armchairs should be chosen with clear and concise shapes.

Sofas can be decorated with a large number of decorative pillows with patterns of waves, ships, anchors and other items of this theme.

Accessories and decoration

Moving on to decorating and choosing accessories, you must first carefully consider the design of the walls themselves. Here plots with maps and seascapes will be placed in place. Alternatively, you can use the same style of embroidery.

Working with accessories is very different from other design styles. So the surface of the wall is perfectly complemented by a clock in the shape of a ship's wheel or numerous shelves on which various stylistic elements will be placed, for example, a lifebuoy, bottles of sand or shells.
