What wallpapers are harmless for a children's room. The main types of eco-friendly wallpaper and the rules for their selection. Guide to how to choose an eco-friendly wallpaper

Safe wallpaper for scent

Heavy, washable, wear-resistant wallpapers that will outlast you and your kids may not be sustainable. They are based on vinyl or PVC. Manufacturers need to add additives to the plastic mass so that it stretches, does not fade and pleases you for a long time. Additives with varying degrees of harm to health will be next to you: evaporate from the wallpaper, nothing can be done.

- Natalya, I can't tell you exactly which wallpapers are safe, - says Alexei Kiselev, head of the Greenpeace toxic program, sadly, - thousands of chemical compounds are known in the world, and the effect on the human body is estimated at a couple of hundred.

After thinking for a while, Alexey recommends using a nose when choosing wallpaper. If you do not like the smell of future walls - do not buy, if it is too harsh - do not buy. In this case, the nose takes part in the choice of wallpaper no less than the eyes, so trust your sense of smell.

Elena Smirnova, Development Director of Ecobureau Greens, clarifies that in addition to the vinyl wallpaper itself, glue, which should keep such a heavy burden on the wall, also interferes with life. According to the expert, she is not aware of eco-friendly adhesives for vinyl wallpaper, as well as the PVC wallpaper itself, which is certified as eco-friendly.

The arguments of the architect Björn Berg, which he cites in his book on environmental design, should finally dissuade you from buying PVC wallpaper. Björn notes that plastic wallpaper collects dirt and is able to heat up when exposed to the sun or electrical appliances such as televisions. Heating the plastic leads to the fact that chemical compounds appear in the air of the room, including those, the harm of which we have already written about.

Paper

All experts agree that paper wallpapers are the only eco-friendly and affordable wallpapers. If you don't like the colors, then choose a wallpaper for painting. Eco-friendly paints are there, and this is the topic of our next materials.

Paper wallpapers are lightweight, so not too chemical adhesives are used for gluing them, and fans of natural ones can cook the paste in the old fashioned way.

Historically, the invention of paper wallpaper at the turn of the 15th-16th centuries made it a cheap alternative to printing on linen, and when in the middle of the 19th century they learned to print wallpaper in rolls, the whole of Europe became addicted to this method of home decoration.

To this day, paper wallpapers are cheap. In stores, you can find wallpaper from Russia and Belarus at a price of 160 rubles per roll. Foreign counterparts will come out more expensive, but their design is better. Roll of German brands Rasch, Coswig and A.S. Creation will cost about 750 rubles, and the prices for paper wallpapers from the USA and Canada reach 4 thousand rubles per roll, and English brands take the bar at 7-8 thousand per roll. Which completely changes the idea of paper wallpaper as a cheap product. Now it is the result of the work of design thought and manual labor to turn paper into the perfect wall decor.

Palm, bamboo, rattan

Warning - wallpaper stores often pass off as natural and eco-friendly wallpaper on a non-woven, and therefore plastic, base with the application of natural materials. You should not take such wallpapers, they do not differ much from ordinary vinyl or non-woven ones.

An alternative can be made up of bamboo canvases fixed on technical gauze. The material is natural and the supplier promises special, harmless glue. Bamboo wallpapers can also stick to a paper backing.

In addition to bamboo canvases, you can find palm and rattan wallpapers. Depending on the thickness of the planks and the type of wallpaper, the price per linear meter varies from 700 rubles for bamboo to 4 thousand for a palm tree.

Briefly, we note that with a strong desire, you can find textile wallpapers to make your house look like a royal residence with fabric on the walls. However, fabric is a material with a number of disadvantages: it fades and collects dust. Therefore, it is better to use fabric fragments as inserts for wall decoration.

Labeling addiction

How wonderful when, in order to determine environmental friendliness, it is enough to look at the labeling. Unfortunately, the wallpaper didn't work that easily. I could not find a marking that would clearly indicate the safety and environmental friendliness of wallpaper.

Safety in the understanding of the sanitary and hygienic standards adopted in the Russian Federation, you will be provided with any wallpaper, even those that smell strongly. You will not be provided with more advanced criteria for assessing security.

If you dig up the composition of the wallpaper, then pay attention to the VOC mark. It means that the composition contains volatile chemicals. I could not find such a mark, I could not find the composition of the wallpaper at all!

I must say that all the talk about the environmental friendliness of wallpaper does not concern a person, but the environment. Where did the materials come from, were there a lot of emissions during production, can the wallpaper be recycled - these are the main questions that arise in articles about the “greenness” of wallpaper.

For now, those who care about the planet can be guided by the sign of the Forest Stewardship Council - FSC, which says that the tree that went into the production of wallpaper was grown and processed with minimal damage to the environment.

There may also be a sign or mention that the wallpaper is made from recycled materials - this is usually for paper wallpaper, and the plastic used for the wallpaper is the primary one.

Unfortunately, no wallpaper can be recycled. When we have separate collection of garbage in Russia, the remnants of wallpaper will be collected in a separate container and taken to a landfill or incineration, or maybe some other recycling method will appear.

Let's talk about paint soon! Send the compositions of the wallpaper, if you find it, we will sort it out together.

Can you call it environmentally friendly? The answer suggests itself: natural. Of course, wood is the most environmentally friendly product for construction, however, our houses are not built from wood, but from cement and concrete. In addition, when starting repairs in an apartment, we think little about the environmental friendliness of the materials that will be used.

Sometimes, after renovation, apartments turn into real gas chambers full of lead, phenol, toluene, acetone and God knows what kind of chemistry. Although environmentally friendly renovation is a very conditional concept, however, you can try to choose such materials for arranging your home that will reduce our daily poisoning to a minimum.

Construction and renovation experts claim that only 25% of building and finishing materials are environmentally friendly. The rest can cause serious harm to human health. Therefore, finishing materials and furniture make a special "contribution" to the pollution of our houses.

Radiation ...

Radiation is one of the most dangerous types of radiation. It cannot be eliminated, it can only be prevented. Therefore, when choosing finishing materials for renovating your home, remember that in addition to concrete and brick, natural stones can also emit radiation. However, the stone has its own natural radioactive background, so when purchasing, ask for evidence of the radiation quality of the product. In total, there are three classes of the radiation background of the rock, of which only granites of the third class are allowed to be used in residential premises. The class is indicated in the passport of the field. Radiation can be avoided if an artificial stone is used in the decoration - it does not "phonite" at all, however, it consists of concrete, expanded clay and artificial paints. The latter can also be carriers of harmful substances.

Electromagnetic radiation has an equally harmful effect on the human body. Its most harmless consequences are headaches and high fatigue, worst of all are dysfunctions of the genitourinary system and cancer. The source of the electromagnetic field, as a rule, are power cables connected in violation of safety measures, as well as illiterately laid electrical wiring, distribution boards, transformers and even electric heating devices. Particularly worth paying attention to the so-called "warm floors". Some of their types give a tenfold increase in electromagnetic radiation, and even the most harmless versions exceed the norm by 3-5 times. "Warm floor" is not recommended to be placed in children's rooms and bedrooms, since it is pointless to screen its radiation.

... and pollution

The most dangerous pollution is chemical. Their source can be concrete, plaster, carpet, insulation, adhesives, various paints and varnishes. Phenol, formaldehyde, lead, toluene, xylene, ammonia, as well as microscopic cement and silicate dust - all these adversely affect human health. Therefore, repairs are sometimes like an environmental disaster in a single room - new materials begin to actively emit harmful substances, which also interact with each other, giving rise to new, even more harmful, compounds. The result is lowered immunity in the inhabitants of the apartment, diseases of the liver, kidneys, central nervous system and respiratory organs. You can, of course, choose materials (paints, adhesives, varnishes, etc.) marked "environmentally safe", however, everything in this world is relative and this inscription only means that the content of harmful impurities in finishing materials does not exceed the maximum permissible standards. Therefore, it is not recommended to live in an apartment where renovation is underway and after renovation, it is necessary to intensively ventilate all rooms for 3-6 months.

Saprophytes, fungi and mold are microorganisms that pollute living quarters and cause allergic reactions and various respiratory diseases. Most often, microorganisms appear where the microclimate of the room is disturbed, excess moisture accumulates, and, thus, favorable conditions for the development of microflora appear. Mold poisoning can lead to very serious consequences. Therefore, during the repair, strictly ensure that the technologies for the construction of structures, their insulation and insulation are not violated. Think carefully about the ventilation system, install humidifiers if the air in the house is very dry.

Ceilings

Any specialist will tell you that for ceilings, the ideal solution is water-based paint. It was created specifically for this purpose. Suspended ceilings accumulate dust, which is harmful to the lungs, and stretch ceilings can emit phenol. The question arises, what to choose, beauty or health? It is quite logical that in bedrooms and children's rooms it is best to do with harmless paint, and if you really want beauty, then other types of ceilings are best done in those rooms that are least used - living rooms, common rooms, corridors. It is not recommended to make stretch and suspended ceilings in bathrooms and kitchens, as excess heat and moisture can not only spoil them, but also lead to excessive emission of harmful substances.

In an effort to decorate the nursery, many parents stick luminous stickers on the ceiling that imitate the starry sky. These labels may contain phosphorus that is harmful to children.

Choosing wallpaper and adhesives

There are a great many types of wallpaper on the modern market. In such abundance, it is easy to get lost, losing sight of the main thing - quality. Oddly enough, but the safest natural wallpaper, they are the cheapest - paper. Fashionable non-woven wallpapers are synthetic, they are, of course, safe for people, but still inferior to natural ones in terms of environmental friendliness.

Glass fiber wallpaper deserves special attention. In some European countries, they are pasted over medical institutions. The fact is that the initial material for their manufacture was glass, from which a special fiber is made and wallpaper canvases are woven. Glass is a natural product, quartz, soda and lime are used in its production, therefore, glass wallpapers are absolutely safe for living quarters, and in quality they are not inferior to fashionable non-woven ones. In addition, fiberglass wallpaper is highly durable and can be washed even with the use of detergents.

For wall decoration in an apartment, experts do not recommend using polymer paints, oil paints, cork coverings and panels. Also, pay attention to the observance of the technology of laying sound insulation, if necessary. And for wallpaper, choose organic glues based on starch or casein. All adhesives are divided into three groups: organic, inorganic (silicate) and synthetic. Synthetic adhesives contain solvents that are harmful to health (acetone, phenol, dichloroethane, etc.), and silicate adhesives are aqueous solutions of sodium metasilicate, which gives a strong alkaline reaction. Alkali corrodes surfaces, from this the paper quickly turns yellow and becomes fragile. Therefore, it is best to use organic adhesives for renovation work, in particular, glues based on starch or casein are suitable for wallpaper.

The nursery is best pasted over with ordinary paper wallpaper. It is, firstly, safe, and secondly, practical. Many children like to rip off the wallpaper and paint on it, so as soon as the kids grow up a little, the parents will be repaired anyway, at least in the nursery.

Parquet, laminate, carpet or linoleum?

It would seem that the most environmentally safe floor is parquet. Natural wood, it couldn't be better. However, it also has to be varnished or rubbed with mastic, otherwise, it will quickly lose its appearance. Both varnish and mastic emit a lot of harmful substances into the atmosphere, so no matter how offensive it is, parquet is far from the first on the list of safe materials for flooring. The first are laminate (only not from the cheap segments), as well as natural stones and porcelain stoneware that have passed radiological examination. Cheap laminates often emit formaldehyde, so their use is generally discouraged.

Another safe floor material is linoleum, which has successfully emerged from the category of "soviet" materials. Good quality linoleum sometimes imitates natural parquet so successfully that you cannot tell at first glance. In addition, linoleum is easy to fit, easy to clean and lasts a long time. The only thing worth paying attention to is the glue that is used for installation, it may contain harmful substances.

Carpet is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly floors, however, on condition that it is made from natural fabrics - wool and silk.

Double-glazed windows or windows "the old fashioned way"

Nowadays, they no longer build houses without double-glazed windows, for them the ventilation system is already calculated in advance. However, there are still a lot of old houses with ordinary wooden frames. Therefore, when starting repairs in an old house, we first of all change wooden windows to plastic double-glazed windows. They have high noise insulation and heat-saving performance, however, there is no ventilation gap in them, which can lead to a violation of ventilation. This must be taken into account and installed double-glazed windows with special ventilation valves.

At one time, there was a lot of controversy about the material from which plastic profiles of a new generation of windows are made - PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Many experts doubted its environmental friendliness, however, in the end it turned out that PVC is harmless if it is not burned. At temperatures up to 60 degrees, practically nothing is released from it. Therefore, PVC is actively used in the manufacture of sanitary ware, linoleum, vinyl wallpaper, but what can I say, even if the cups for children's yoghurts are made of PVC!

Fears that the double-glazed windows installed on the southern side of the apartment may cause the release of harmful substances are absolutely unfounded. Firstly, PVC does not heat up to 60 degrees from the sun alone, and secondly, substances harmful to health are released from the material only during combustion.

Bathroom, kitchen and nursery

The bathroom is a special place. High humidity and frequent temperature changes oblige us to decorate the room with appropriate materials. Paint, plastic panels, stretch ceilings - all these materials are ineffective for bathrooms and, moreover, inspire concerns from the point of view of environmental friendliness. As a result of temperature changes and high humidity, mold or fungi can appear under the panels and the ceiling, which will lead to rotting and the release of spores harmful to the body. Types of paints that are resistant to temperature extremes and high humidity contain harmful substances, for example, lead, which also does not fit the definition of environmentally friendly repairs.

Therefore, in the bathroom, they most often use good old tiles or natural marble. Both are safe for health and do not need special care.

The kitchen is where many of us spend most of our time at home. In addition, we prepare food here, so it would be more expedient to use the most resistant natural materials that are easy to wash. Everything in the children's room should be special. Natural materials, wooden furniture without varnishes and paints, natural textiles are the guarantee of your child's health.

Six rules for environmentally friendly repairs:

  • do not use materials with unusual properties, such as fast drying adhesives and paints. They have an increased content of chemicals;
  • make sure that the technology of applying coatings, pouring floors, installing windows, ventilation and air conditioning is strictly followed;
  • ask sellers for certificates of quality and conformity;
  • do not rush to move into a newly renovated apartment, let the premises stand for 2-3 weeks (during this period, the effect of many chemical compounds weakens);
  • do not purchase varnishes and paints containing lead, phenol, toluene and acetone;
  • When buying, remember that the chance of getting "unclean" materials for repairs is much lower if you purchase them from large manufacturers.

Most building and finishing materials are not entirely clean from the point of view of ecology, but many of them are quite suitable for repair and safe for health, the main thing is not to strive to save as much as possible and remember that health is still more important.

Everyone dreams that the apartment is cozy, the wallpaper is not only pleasing to the eye, but also absolutely safe for our health. Today I want to talk about environmentally friendly wallpaper.

What kind of wallpaper is better to choose so that it meets the criteria of environmental friendliness? Let's take a look at the most sustainable wallpapers.

How to choose paper wallpaper?

When choosing wallpaper, you should take into account their ability to pass air. Paper wallpaper in this case is a win-win option. But there are also pluses of such wallpaper.

Good air exchange between the wall and the room air, mold and mildew do not form on the walls.

The low price of single-layer wallpaper makes it possible to change the decor in the apartment every three years.

But recently, consumers have made their choice in favor of expensive multilayer imported wallpaper with high-quality design and photo printing. The price of such wallpapers is high, they are glued for a long time. Excessive requirements are imposed on the quality of such wallpapers.

Modern photowall-paper on a dense paper basis, high quality, maximally and realistically conveying the image. Nature, cities, various natural textures are especially popular.

The end walls are pasted over with subject wallpaper. If you apply the wallpaper correctly and successfully, the room will appear taller and wider, as if an additional volume of air appears.

The main disadvantages of paper wallpaper:

  • odor absorption;
  • fear of moisture.

Therefore, it is better not to use such wallpaper for the kitchen and bathroom.

Try to choose a thicker wallpaper, they accumulate less dust, respectively, less harm to health.

Choose wallpaper that can be cleaned. For example, paper washable wallpaper with a glossy layer.

Nonwoven is a non-woven fabric made from cellulose and wood fibers.

High-quality non-woven wallpaper consists of:

  • natural cellulose - about 70%;
  • textile or wood fibers - 24%;
  • natural adhesives - only one percent.

The embossing method is used for the production of such wallpapers, a canvas is created from pure non-woven fabric.

There are no harmful components in this non-woven wallpaper:

  • polyvinyl chloride;
  • vinyl;
  • fiberglass;
  • formaldehyde;
  • solvents.

The main advantages of such wallpaper.

  1. Excellent vapor and air permeability. It is even higher than that of paper wallpaper.
  2. They allow air to pass well to the walls, creating good air exchange. This is what distinguishes them from vinyl wallpaper. Non-woven wallpaper is well suited for a nursery, pasting a bedroom, apartments where allergy sufferers live, people with bronchial diseases.
  3. Another advantage is the ability to stabilize the structure of the wall covering. Therefore, it is a good choice for new buildings, where the walls have not yet settled, there is a risk of microcracking.
  4. The dense non-woven fabric is form-stable and restrains microcracks on the walls.
  5. Moisture is not terrible for such wallpapers, they do not leave when pasting rooms with high humidity (kitchen). But you cannot wash unpainted wallpaper.
  6. It is very easy to glue such wallpapers. Glue is applied to the wall, not wallpaper. If you don't like how you glued, you can tear off and glue again.

Several years ago in stores you could find wallpaper of the same color made of pure non-woven fabric for painting. The material withstood 5 repaints, it was possible to change the interior several times without investment.

If you want to get ready-made walls right away, choose colored wallpaper. But here you need to be more careful, many sellers give out combined wallpapers for non-woven, that is, vinyl on a non-woven basis.

If you choose wallpaper for tint, then know that they will lose their ability to breathe. The property of air permeability is lost. If you want to maintain this property, choose single-layer and multi-layer pure non-woven wallpaper.

To make sure of the correct choice, you need to tear the edge of the sheet. If the canvas is paper, you will not notice the fibrous structure, but take away the jagged structure at the break. If the base is non-woven, the gap will be stretched, and non-woven fibers will be visible at the edges.

How to choose non-woven wallpaper? First read the packaging, if it says: on a non-woven basis, ask the sales assistant for a certificate stating that the wallpaper is non-woven.

Another type of safe wallpaper is textile, consisting of paper and woven layers. The top layer is made of cotton, linen or man-made fibers.

Pros of textile wallpaper:

  • do not require the selection of a pattern;
  • protect from extraneous sounds, noises;
  • provide good air exchange.
  • it is inconvenient to glue them;
  • inconvenient to care for;
  • are expensive.

More expensive versions of such wallpaper are covered with dust and dirt-repellent coating.

Cork wallpaper is easy to use. They are easy to clean, do not fade, do not electrify.

You can find two types of such wallpapers.

  1. With a base. When a thin cork layer is applied to a paper base.
  2. No base. This is the pressed bark of cork oak with various decorative additives.

Such wallpapers are becoming more and more popular. Buyers really like the texture of the coating. Vegetable wallpapers created by nature are unique and inimitable.

To choose such wallpaper, it is necessary to take into account that even in one batch there may be wallpapers of different color, texture, pattern.

For the manufacture of wallpaper from plant fibers, natural materials are used:

  • bamboo;
  • jute;
  • papyrus;
  • cane;
  • other materials.
  1. Absolutely safe.
  2. They are characterized by high environmental friendliness.
  3. Recommended for allergy sufferers, small children, asthmatics.
  4. Used for pasting walls, ceilings, furniture.
  5. They retain heat well and absorb noise, creating coziness in the apartment.
  6. They are highly durable.
  7. They have a long service life.
  1. The top layer cannot be scratched. Therefore, in the hallway, in the nursery, it is better not to use such wallpapers.
  2. Plant fibers absorb odors; such wallpapers are not suitable for the kitchen.
  3. Noticeable joints between the canvases. From you can beat and arrange additionally.

How to choose a plant wallpaper? Pay attention to the following characteristics: the possibility of wet cleaning, processing with protective agents, resistance to fading.

Conclusion: now you know which wallpaper is better to choose. Safety, environmental friendliness, cleanliness are the main factors when choosing wallpaper.

Everyone has heard about the availability of low-quality, unhealthy building materials on the market. Therefore, the question of choosing environmentally friendly coatings has become very relevant, in particular, many people are trying to purchase the most environmentally friendly wallpaper for walls, but which canvases should be preferred? Next, I will try to answer the question posed, and tell you which tapestries are the most environmentally friendly.

What does "eco-friendly tapestry" mean?

First of all, I would like to note that it is not entirely correct to talk about which wallpapers are environmentally friendly. The fact is that all wallpapers comply with certain standards and do not harm health, if, of course, they are of high quality and certified.

Therefore, the main rule when choosing environmentally friendly materials, and any, is not to chase the price, but to purchase products from well-known manufacturers in large stores. At the same time, it practically does not matter what material they are made of.

But when buying "from hand", even the most, at first glance, safe paper tapestries may turn out to be harmless.

But, most people, when talking about eco-friendly tapestries, mean canvases made from natural materials, and not just those that comply with safety certificates. Therefore, further I want to tell you about four types of such wallpapers.

Types of eco-friendly tapestries

So, we can say with confidence that the most environmentally friendly tapestries, in terms of materials, are as follows:

Below we will take a closer look at all types of these tapestries.

Option 1: paper

Eco-friendly breathable paper wallpaper needs no introduction. They are well known to all since Soviet times. True, since then, the tapestries have undergone some changes:

  • Modern printing technologies have made them much more attractive. Often their decorative qualities are not inferior to their more expensive counterparts;

  • The so-called duplex trellis appeared on sale, which are distinguished by their increased density and wear resistance.

The main advantage of paper tapestries is their low cost. But the durability, of course, leaves much to be desired. In addition, they are very afraid of moisture.

To increase the durability and moisture resistance of paper wallpapers, they can be varnished.

Option 2: non-woven

Many people question the environmental friendliness of non-woven wallpaper, but is there a reason for this? This material is made on the basis of cellulose fibers and modified, as a rule, with polyester. In other words, it is a papery material.

As for the polyester, i.e. synthetic components, do not worry. This material is now often used to make clothes, bedding, etc. The only thing, do not forget what I said at the beginning of the article - environmental friendliness largely depends on the quality of the wallpaper.

By itself, non-woven fabric belongs to environmentally friendly and breathable materials. Therefore, you should not avoid it.

Advantages. Among the positive qualities of non-woven coatings, we highlight several main ones:

  • Strength and durability. With these properties, these tapestries are significantly superior to paper counterparts;
  • Moisture resistance. Of course, the coating cannot be washed with water, but, nevertheless, it tolerates moisture much better than paper;

  • Attractive look. As a rule, the material is deeply embossed, as a result of which it looks very interesting.

Disadvantages:

  • Do not use in damp areas. As I said, you cannot wash the canvases, so you should not use them for the walls in the bathroom;
  • Textured surface. This leads to the accumulation of dust on the walls. True, not all types of this coating are deeply embossed.

Option 3: fabric

For living quarters, fabric tapestries are an excellent solution. They can be made of linen, silk, jute and other materials. The only thing, if you want the coating to be really natural, pay attention to the absence of synthetics in the composition.

Advantages. The canvases have the following positive qualities:

  • Design. The tapestries have an exquisite appearance;
  • Abrasion resistance. The surface covered with them can even be cleaned with a brush.

Disadvantages:

  • High price. Fabric wallpaper is more expensive than all of the above analogues;
  • Moisture instability. The fabric quickly absorbs water, so this coating is not suitable for damp rooms;

  • Stains are poorly removed. It is very difficult to remove dirt from the fabric, especially grease.

Option 4: cork

If all of the above coatings require respect for themselves, then bamboo eco wallpaper for walls is absolutely undemanding to operating conditions. They can be used in the kitchen, bathroom or even on the balcony.

Advantages. Other advantages of the material include:

  • Durability. Since the coating is not afraid of negative influences, it can last for many years;

  • Heat and sound insulation properties. The cork is a soft porous material, therefore, it is even capable of insulating walls to some extent;
  • Practicality. Cork canvases are not difficult to wash with your own hands.

The instructions for gluing bamboo wallpaper have their own characteristics. Therefore, before proceeding with their installation, read the recommendations from the manufacturer.

The disadvantages include only the peculiar appearance of cork canvases. Therefore, they are not suitable for every interior.

Price

Finally, I will give the cost of all of the above coatings:

The prices in the table are valid in the winter of 2017/2018.

Eco-friendly hypoallergenic wallpaper for walls

The fashion for everything environmentally friendly, from food to cars, is growing from year to year and is not going to give up its positions. People suddenly realized that catastrophic environmental pollution turns into intractable problems, including serious diseases unknown to our ancestors.

Each person lives somewhere, and it is good when his home is his fortress, safe both outside and inside. A lot can be said about the ecological cleanliness of the home, but this article will focus on ecological and hypoallergenic wallpaper for walls, which is not quite the same thing.

The first thing to look for when choosing environmental wallpaper Is an eco-label.

The second is the presence of a quality certificate and instructions with a list of the components included in the wallpaper. They should not include artificial dyes, heavy metals, formaldehydes and other chemical compounds.

Environmental wallpaper for walls

All paper wallpapers are considered to be ecological. However, some of their types are made using chlorine-containing bleaches and synthetic dyes. Therefore, truly environmentally friendly paper wallpapers are those made of unbleached paper and painted with natural dyes.

Environmentally friendly non-woven wallpaper is a non-woven material consisting exclusively of natural ingredients - cellulose and textile fibers, without any toxic additives.

Another type of environmentally friendly and safe wallpaper is textile, the raw material for which are natural fibers of cotton, viscose, silk or flax, known for its bactericidal properties, and paper web is used as a base.

The most environmentally friendly wallpaper is made of quartz sand and other natural materials glass fiber. They are harmless, antistatic, and mold resistant.

What other environmentally friendly wallpapers are offered by modern manufacturers:

Lincrust, created according to the original technology without chemical additives. Liquid wallpaper made from natural ingredients. Metal wallpaper that protects against electromagnetic radiation - however, they have a drawback: they do not "breathe", therefore, in a room with walls pasted over with them, it is necessary to maintain good air circulation.

Environmentally friendly paintable wallpaper consists only of materials of natural origin that are safe for humans. This group includes paper, non-woven, fiberglass and linkrust. Eco style wallpaper

The new-fashioned eco style implies interior design using environmentally friendly building materials, furniture and other decorative elements with a predominance of natural shades, floral ornaments, images of natural landscapes.

Eco wallpaper for walls is made from raw materials that are harmless to human health - bamboo, algae, reeds, cork, coconut shells, straw, leather, wood veneer, suede.

However, today the term "Eco wallpaper" is used in a broader sense, including to designate environmentally friendly wallpaper as such, and the abbreviation ECO can often be found in the names of trade marks and collections.

For example - Swedish eco wallpaper Wallpaper. They are not always decorated with drawings in the style of flora and fauna, but they are made of eco-friendly paper, the raw material for which is trees grown in an ecologically clean area. In general, all eco wallpapers produced in Sweden are of good quality and environmental friendliness.

Eco-friendly Japanese wall-paper for walls and one would like to call "smart". They are able to regulate moisture levels, resist bacteria, freshen the air, absorb and neutralize allergens. There is only a small nuance: the environmental safety of wallpaper does not yet guarantee their hypoallergenic properties.

Hypoallergenic wallpaper for walls

Not all environmentally friendly wallpapers are suitable for allergy sufferers. For example, paper, fabric, relief - those are still dust collectors. The exception is their varieties, treated with antistatic impregnation, but then the question arises about the environmental friendliness of this impregnation.

Of course, allergies can be different, so you need to choose a hypoallergenic wallpaper individually. If an allergic reaction is caused not by dust, but by mold or fungus, then air-permeable wallpapers are suitable: paper, textile, non-woven, the above-mentioned paintable wallpapers and other types of environmentally friendly wallpapers, especially those with bactericidal properties: linen, cork.

But what kind of wallpaper is actually hypoallergenic in every sense is glass wallpaper. They inhibit the development of pathogenic microorganisms, do not get dusty, but stick them with harmless mineral glue.

By the way, about the glue. Eco-friendly wallpaper glue should be made from natural ingredients such as starch or casein.

Buy environmentally friendly wallpaper

The cost of environmentally friendly wallpaper, as a rule, is slightly higher than the cost of their synthetic counterparts. This is understandable - really high-quality materials are never cheap. If the manufacturer declares that the wallpaper is environmentally friendly, and the price for them is clearly underestimated, it would be logical to doubt the veracity of this statement.

If you are determined to buy hypoallergenic or eco wallpapers, it is better to choose reputable suppliers. And it is not so important which of them you choose - let it be an online store of eco wallpaper, Eco House - a dealer of a liquid wallpaper manufacturer, or the Moscow wallpaper factory Ecostyle. The main thing is to check eco-labeling, certificates and carefully study the list of materials included in the composition.

Environmentally friendly wallpaper for: apartment, bedroom, nursery, kitchen

It's great when the wallpaper for the bedroom is environmentally friendly, and even absorbs sound - cork for example. Thick paper, non-woven, fabric, liquid wallpapers also cope well with this function - they are all ecological and are quite suitable for the bedroom.

Among environmentally friendly wallpaper for a nursery, paper is usually chosen, especially if the child is small, because they understand that the artist will wake up in him, and the walls will serve as an easel. Environmental paintable wallpaper is also good for children.

As for environmentally friendly wallpaper for the kitchen, it is desirable that they be washable, and glass wallpaper is just ideal. And do not write off vinyl eco wallpaper - there are some.
