Is vacation in Montenegro safe? Rest in Montenegro: useful tips. Visa and vaccinations are not required for holidays in Montenegro

It is no coincidence that Montenegro is considered one of the safest countries in the Balkan region. The government of the country has successfully fought crime and maintains a high level of security, allowing you to travel throughout the country, both alone and as a large family.

Natural hazards in Montenegro

There are no direct criminal threats to the health and property of tourists in Montenegro. The only "criminal" elements that you may encounter may be street beggars or pickpockets in crowded places. In areas close to the border with Albania (n / a in Ulcinj), those traveling by car should keep to the main roads and not move at night.

Diseases in Montenegro

It is no secret that many of the popular beaches of Montenegro are located near large cities and towns that drain household waste into the sea. This can be the cause of a number of unpleasant diseases (rotavirus infection, etc.) for unwary vacationers. Therefore, swimming in Montenegro should only be in the places officially provided for this.

Although all tap water in Montenegro is chlorinated, it is not recommended to drink it from the tap, as the local pipeline has not yet fully recovered after NATO bombing during the Kosovo War.

Vaccinations

  • Diphtheria, tetanus
  • Typhoid fever

Very often, tourists are interested in the question of whether it is worth resting in Montenegro at all. People are interested in both security issues (it is very safe in Montenegro) and what to do with their leisure time: what, what and whether it is possible to travel on their own.

In short, yes, it is worth going on vacation to Montenegro. The country has a lot to offer, both for budget travelers and people who are ready to spend well on vacation. They will simply rest a little differently and will receive a different level of service and comfort.

Pros and cons of vacation in Montenegro

Visa and vaccinations are not required for holidays in Montenegro

You do not need a visa to visit Montenegro. In summer, visa-free travel can be up to 90 days. This is more than enough for most tourists. Even in 3 weeks the country can be traveled far and wide.

Note!

There really is no visa in Montenegro, but every tourist is obliged to pay the tourist tax. If this is not done, but at the border they may be required to pay a fine.

If you are flying on a tour, there is nothing to worry about, the hotel or the owner of the villa will do everything for you. But if you plan, you will have to register.

Unlike popular Asian destinations (Thailand, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka), special vaccinations are not required for a vacation in Montenegro. There are no terrible tropical and African diseases here. Montenegrins know and follow sanitation standards. There are no dangerous insects in the tourist spots.

The maximum that threatens tourists in Montenegro is to get ear inflammation from getting water into it or catch a cold under the air conditioner. Children can catch rotavirus if they swallow sea water. All of these diseases are common in any seaside resort around the world. In the same Turkey and Egypt, many times more children are sick with rotavirus than in Montenegro.

To protect yourself in case of illness, it is worth it. Medicine in the country is expensive.

Very interesting sights and cheap excursions

The main thing, give what is worth going to Montenegro -. The country really has something to see: there are also the most beautiful, world-class, colorful, and much more. And this is if you do not remember the opportunity to visit neighboring, or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Unlike many beach destinations, where excursions are not of high quality, but are expensive, in Montenegro it is wonderful: at the same time of high quality and at good prices.

If you need to save money, you can travel by bus or. For two, it is even cheaper than excursions, but you will not have a guide with you, you will have to study the information about the main ones in advance and think over a trip plan.

Small country with tiny distances between cities

One of the most important advantages of a vacation in Montenegro is the tiny distance between. Having come to rest at any resort, you can visit all the others, swim in different ones and see all the interesting things that you saw in the photo on the Internet.

Even if you are not ready to spend more than an hour or two on the road, there are many places you can go.

Delicious, hearty and inexpensive cuisine. Eco-friendly fruits

Montenegro is considered one of the most environmentally friendly countries in Europe. There is no polluting industry here, and no chemicals or pesticides are used in agriculture.

Per 10 euros Indicative euro exchange rate:
10 euros = 740 rubles
10 euros = 310 hryvnias
10 euros = 23.5 Belarusian rubles
10 euros = 11.7 dollars

All courses are approximate, but they help to quickly estimate prices in Montenegro, you can have a great lunch in a restaurant. All dishes are mainly meat and potatoes. Excellent delicious pastries. Good local wines and cheeses. You can also recommend local pancakes stuffed with wild berries and natural lemonades.

Thrifty tourists are very much helped out by fast food. A hamburger with a huge cutlet that a man can gorge on costs about 1.5 euro Indicative euro exchange rate:
1.5 euros = 111 rubles
1.5 euros = 46.5 hryvnia
1.5 euros = 3.53 Belarusian rubles
1.5 euros = 1.76 dollars

All courses are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices. Any store bought meat will be cooked for free if you ask.

Excellent value for the quality of your stay

Very often they write that there is no service in Montenegro. Five or ten years ago, it was so. Tourists lived in villas with owners (private room with shower, toilet, air conditioning and TV), there were not enough good hotels or apartments.

It was the same with everything else: quality, local companies, public transport, etc.

Now the situation has changed dramatically. In 2017 alone, we managed to live in a villa (cheap, but bad), and in a hotel, and in good apartments with a sea view or in the old one.

You no longer need to bargain with taxi drivers at the airport, it is easier and more comfortable to travel.

A vacation of a similar comfort in neighboring Croatia or Italy will cost 2-3 times more. Now you can decide on your own whether it is worth overpaying for a beautiful hotel or it is better to extend your vacation for another week, resting with a little less comfort.

Locals understand Russian and English well

The first thing that catches your eye when you first come to Montenegro is the amount of advertising in Russian. In tourist places and almost everyone understands and speaks Russian in one way or another, restaurants and cafes often have menus in Russian, and shops - familiar goods.

In Montenegro, we did not come across the concept of a language barrier - we were always understood.

Friendly residents, few tourist divorces

The attitude towards tourists in most popular resort countries forces them to be constantly on the alert. It seems that literally at every step people are trying to cheat or cheat for money. One or two of these can ruin your vacation. It seems that they took it with money, but spoiled the mood.

In Montenegro, this is somehow not felt. Even in crowds of tourists, there are almost no scammers. It is not customary here to cheat in restaurants or supermarkets (but you have to check the change at the checkout), there are few pickpockets, and beggars are rare.

The only place where many of our acquaintances and friends faced deception was buying excursions on the embankment. When the excursion was sold, they were promised a low price, comfortable buses and boats (they showed a photo), a Russian-speaking guide and fantastic sights (which in fact are not in Montenegro).

In life, everything turned out to be completely different. A bus with barely working air conditioning, a guide who knows Russian only "hello" and "hand over the money" and fees "for entering the monastery." Naturally, no one took people to the sights that were in the photo (they are generally on other continents).

It is very safe in Montenegro. Especially for tourists

In the past couple of years, the media very often have stories about how scary everything is in Montenegro. They show forest fires, terrible diseases, rampant banditry, etc.

In life, everything is not at all like that. Montenegro is a tiny country where everyone knows each other. Among the local, the crime rate tends to zero. The police are working well. A girl can calmly go out for a walk or at 2 am and nothing will happen to her. The situation is many times calmer than in Turkey or Egypt. It's very safe here.

In general, tourists are treated very well. Montenegro lives off tourists, everyone in the family has relatives who earn money from tourists. Naturally, all locals try to help tourists whenever possible. You can ask for directions or ask for advice. They will help or find someone who will help.

It should be borne in mind that in Montenegro, simple human relations can mean even more than money. They are a proud mountain people, highlanders. The rule "treat others the way you want to be treated" works here literally.

This is what forest fires in Montenegro look like. You can only see them on excursions to the mountains.

Forest fires and it really does happen every summer. If the forest burns near the resort, the fire is extinguished. If somewhere in the mountains, then there is no such possibility. There are no fires near the resorts. If you do not plan to go on excursions, then you will learn about them only from the news. In general, a fire in the mountains is even beautiful. Last time, you can see the photo.

There are no terrible diseases in Montenegro either. This is not Asia with tropical fevers and poisonous insects, not Africa with its cholera, malaria and even plague. Even in comparison with the usual Turkey, Montenegro is safer - there are no coxsack and other similar viruses.

Yes, there are cases of rotavirus in children. So they are at any seaside resort. In Montenegro, even less often than in other places. Because children swim in the clean sea, not in pools with dirty water. Taking a first-aid kit with you helps very well against diseases (it is not customary to sell medicines without a prescription here) and (medicine is expensive).

Ideal attitude towards children, in the country "cult of the child"

Children in Montenegro are treated very kindly, and it is a pleasure to rest with them. Couples with children are treated much better; it is customary to take care of children in a taxi, in a hotel, and in a restaurant.

There are several points that you need to consider if you plan to relax in Montenegro with a child:

  1. Expensive medicine. Montenegro is a small country with small hospitals in the largest cities. Service prices for tourists are very high. Easy to get invoiced for 300 euros Indicative euro exchange rate:
    300 euros = 22,200 rubles
    300 euros = 9300 hryvnia
    300 euros = 705 Belarusian rubles
    300 euros = 351 dollars

All courses are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices

and more for treating common rotavirus, otitis media, or the common cold. Without a good rest in Montenegro with a child is highly discouraged.
  2. We need to rent a car. If you plan to live in a large resort where there are a lot of people, you can still do without a car, but if you want to find a quieter and cheaper place, you cannot do without - you will have to go to a supermarket, a decent restaurant, playgrounds or a hospital for baby products, if suddenly the worst will happen.
  3. Few baby products. Baby products, cereals, cottage cheese, etc. can only be found in supermarkets, Bars or. The situation is similar in restaurants. Only the biggest ones have a children's menu (for example, Slovenska Plaza and Iberostar). In a regular restaurant, children can order pancakes with wild berries, the local rich chorbu soup, potatoes with meat, vegetables or pizza.
  4. Great fruit. In Montenegro, you can buy organic and healthy vegetables that your child will surely like.

Who is not allowed to rest in Montenegro and why?

Naturally, like any other country, Montenegro is not suitable for everyone. It may not appeal to fans of a purely beach holiday under the All Inclusive system or tourists who value an active and varied nightlife with a bunch of discos and pretentious places.

People for whom high-quality medicine is important should not go on vacation - there are few hospitals in Montenegro; people with really serious illnesses are transported by helicopter to neighboring Serbia.

There is no space in Montenegro for those who like to go shopping. Locals hardly bargain, and shopping in the Bar, which is so actively written about on the Internet, is more of a tourist myth. All the brands we are accustomed to are sold there at about the same prices as at home.

If a beautiful hotel and the "All inclusive" system are important to you

Yes, there are excellent hotels in Montenegro, including the All Inclusive system. But the rest in them will cost much more than in Turkey.

Most tours are offered either with breakfast or no meals at all. True, such a package is cheaper than, for example, in Turkey or Egypt. The difference can be spent on good food in colorful local restaurants and cafes.

Do not plan to travel and see the sights

A purely beach vacation in Montenegro is not particularly interesting. There are a lot of people everywhere during the peak season. Most of the beaches are pebbly with imported sand. The Adriatic Sea is slightly cool even in summer.

The only advantages are the absence of algae, as in Bulgaria or Georgia, and relatively low prices and a high level of safety in the country. Well, the public travels to Montenegro a little different than to Turkey.

Nightlife and city life are important

Montenegro in the spring: features, what to do, when to swim?

Spring in Montenegro is suitable for walks along the sea and independent. low in spring, the choice of apartments is excellent, but the sea is cold and not.

V march it's already warm enough for walking along the embankment, it's still cold to swim. Many cafes and restaurants are closed; excursions are also almost not offered. The markets sell kiwi, oranges and strawberries.

V april the temperature rises slightly, some tourists start to swim. Sunny days are more and more frequent and it becomes very comfortable to travel around the country. The markets sell local strawberries for 3-5 euros Indicative euro exchange rate:
4 euros = 296 rubles
4 euros = 124 hryvnia
4 euros = 9.4 Belarusian rubles
4 euros = 4.68 dollars

All courses are approximate, but they help to quickly estimate prices per kg. Excursions can only be bought from Olympus.

V May, if you're lucky and the year is warm, you can already swim normally. Cafes and restaurants are gradually opening, you can buy some excursions. There are a few more people, this is the perfect time to travel to Montenegro, if you want to swim in the sea several times, but the travel budget is limited.

Is it possible to go to Montenegro in the fall: weather and water temperature

The first half of autumn in Montenegro is quite suitable for traveling around the country, but the closer to winter, the more the weather deteriorates.

September in Montenegro considered the velvet season. The weather is still good, the sea is usually warm, and there are fewer and fewer tourists since the end of August. Restaurants and excursion agencies are slowly phasing out their activities, prices for housing and apartments are falling.

V october you can taste local pomegranates, grapes, tangerines and oranges. The weather is gradually becoming gloomy, the first rains begin to fall. held only until the middle of the month, but the price falls. While traveling, you can catch great shots of mountains covered with clouds. You can swim in the sea, at best, near Ulcinj, if the month is sunny.

November in Montenegro usually no longer suitable for recreation. The weather often deteriorates, the sea is cold, and it becomes cold and uncomfortable to ride in the mountains. Sometimes real storms begin, when rivers of water flow through the streets, and the wind squeezes out closed windows.

Holidays in Montenegro in winter: ski resorts

Winter in Montenegro is a time for ski holidays. Resting on the coast is not at all comfortable, it rains constantly. Sometimes water pours from the sky for a week in a row. It's cold in the apartment.

It is not popular among our compatriots to fly to Montenegro to ski (resorts are far from airports). That's why Zabljak and Kolashin crowded with vacationers from neighboring Serbia.

Most often we are asked questions like:

  • Is it worth going to Montenegro on vacation at all?
  • And if it is worth it where and for how many days to relax well, but not too expensive?
  • Well, when exactly is the best time to come to Montenegro, they are also asked quite often.

Let's try to answer first as briefly as possible, and then we will tell you in more detail.

Should you go to Montenegro?

In short - Yes, worth it! This country is at the same time not very expensive, interesting, surprisingly clean and fascinating. There are many in Montenegro.

But to people who are accustomed to comfortable hotels and "All inclusive" food, it is most likely won't fit... Why so - we will tell you closer to the end of the article.

Who should go to Montenegro, what to expect from the rest?

If you love not only excellent, but also want to admire mountain landscapes, and dense, but at the same time sacrifice a little comfortable accommodation and food - Montenegro will definitely suit you.

Holidays in Montenegro with children

Do you want to show your children, among the mountains, visit amazingly beautiful, see and see? Or maybe you want to introduce them to religion by visiting world famous monasteries and (although I personally like it better)?

The photo shows the canyon of the Moraca River at its very beginning. Quite a pretty place, isn't it?

You can also take part in rafting on an alpine river, go on a jeep safari (with horseback riding) or visit nearby countries: or. And it's all worth it not very expensive(when compared with the prices for excursions in the same Turkey or Egypt, which were recently closed for Russian tourists).

In the same time concrete beaches, and some other cities will not be the best option.

Comfort of rest in Montenegro

Rest here very comfortable... Local residents. The crime rate is practically zero and no one is trying to "cheat you for money" (they are trying to "dissolve" people who have arrived for permanent residence and not as brazenly as in other countries). In the markets and embankments, they hardly stick, they don't grab hands and do not interfere with rest at all. I cannot say this about the popular resorts of Egypt or Turkey.

There are many cozy restaurants and small shops in almost any city. however, quite high, resort. But there is also a plus. - Euro, which allows you to avoid problems with exchangers and unnecessary losses on converting money.

A separate bonus is the fact that for a vacation in Montenegro, which means you can save both time and nerves on paperwork.

How comfortable is it to live in Montenegro

A typical villa in Montenegro is a two, three or four storey building. Quite cute and tidy with small but cozy tourist rooms.

In terms of accommodation, it is not very good to rest here. An order of magnitude worse than in the usual five-star hotels of the same Turkey or Egypt.

The most popular way of settling is. In fact, you rent from the owner one or several rooms with a dignity. node and shower. The room will air conditioner, refrigerator and TV (I have no idea why you need it). In most cases, there is free WiFi, but the speed and stability of the Internet leaves much to be desired (although this did not prevent us from calling home on Skype).

Not all villas have kitchens or stoves, and if there are, they are not always allowed to use them either. The owner or hostess (our name was Zoritsa) may practically not speak Russian.

Of course, you shouldn't count on the pool. Linen is changed on average once a week.

Meals are not usually offered in the villa.

Of course, we are talking about an inexpensive settlement option. If you are ready to pay much more expensive, then the conditions will be much more comfortable.

Meals and food prices

The information that Montenegro is a very cheap country is very outdated. Especially after the recent sharp jump in currency prices. But at the same time, the prices cannot be called fabulous either. They are just resort, slightly taller than one would expect.

It can be useful: accurate.

Most Russian-speaking tourists prefer to save money and eat these hamburgers.

The most tourist food we would call hamburgers (cost 1.5 euros) and pizza (about 2 euros). The portions are large, quite tasty and satisfying.

If you prefer to eat in restaurants, there is no problem. There are many restaurants, the portions are quite large, everything is hearty and tasty. You can eat normally for 5-10 euros.

What can you see and what impressions can you get?

The architecture here is typically Mediterranean, very cozy, beautiful and calm.

Montenegro is an ideal country to swim at the sea and see something interesting. We've been here twice and got a huge amount.

A separate pleasure will be evening walks through old cities like and, they are not only very beautiful, but also surprisingly interesting, colorful and memorable.

At the same time, it is not at all necessary to spend a lot of money on excursions. If you wish, you can save money and travel by public transport.

What souvenirs are better to bring with you?

If you like "All inclusive"

This food scheme is not very common in Montenegro. Most do not include food at all, and only the settlement is provided.

On the other hand, the voucher will cost you significantly less and you can simply spend the difference on good meals in restaurants.

If you only want the beach and the pool

The beaches in Montenegro are mostly sandy with an admixture of small pebbles. Near Ultsyn (pictured) beaches of black sand, which is considered healing

Is it dangerous to rest in Montenegro? I would like to know, as this Balkan country is a tourist destination. Let's look at what dangers await tourists in Montenegro. And how to plan your vacation in this country so that it becomes as safe as possible.

First, we will focus on the problem of crime and safety in the mountainous country. In fact, the situation in Montenegro is very calm. Many locals do not even close the door in the house and in the car. When you do this, your values will be visible, but they will not. But this, of course, in winter, but in summer it is better to observe the necessary safety measures.

Tourists on the street can feel completely free as crime is low. But you have to be very careful in busy tourist areas and there are sometimes pickpocket thieves on the buses.

There are no armed robberies in Montenegro.

Precautions in Montenegro

  • 1. In Montenegro, as in any other resort country, you need to take extra precautions if you leave an expensive car in a parking lot or in a crowded place. Place your belongings in the trunk or in a place where they will not be visible.
  • 2. When leaving your hotel room, do not leave Windows open, ask the administration how best to protect yourself. When you close the door, you cannot worry about your things, no one in the room will break. An unwanted guest can enter your room if you leave the window open. Mostly in open windows, he becomes a teenager. Montenegro does not engage in theft because they do not need it.

In Montenegro, even the Romans do not make sense to steal, they earn money for garbage collection and toilets.

Honest Montenegrin people will always come to your aid. If you forget your things at the Mall or an umbrella or a grocery bag, no one will take them, everything will remain in its place, where you will forget them. On the beach, watch out for things left, a lot of people, and you might not notice anything.

The attitude of local residents towards tourists is very good, with some exceptions being teenagers. To avoid unwanted conflict with them, try not to pay attention to their provocations, stay calm if you see them laughing at you. Do not reply to their comments or try to offend them.

In comparison with other European countries, the streets of Montenegrin cities are considered safe in the dark. But we still recommend that you walk down the main street and stay in the dark corners.

Women in Montenegrin resorts may feel completely safe, but they can still face unwanted attention from men in clubs and bars. Women are not disturbed on the streets. On the beaches, everyone swims in modern swimwear. But it is worth remembering that in this country there are many Muslim areas where too revealing outfits are not welcome.

All tourists are required to have a passport as an identity document, but, as a rule, vacationers do not carry it. Copies of your passport or other documents can help you quickly obtain a travel document if you steal or lose your passport.

The rest is a slight inconvenience

Jellyfish are very rare in the sea waters of Montenegro, but it is not strange that they can stumble across by chance. Jellyfish in Montenegro are not as dangerous as their relatives in Southeast Asia or off the coast of Australia. If you come into contact with jellyfish, you can get a slight burn, which will disappear within a few hours without leaving a trace. Therefore, they should not cause fear and anxiety.

Mosquitoes in this country are not dangerous because they are not carriers of any disease. But they can be a nuisance. Don't let you sit comfortably in a restaurant, bar or cafe in the evening to keep away annoying mosquitoes. Therefore, we advise you to buy repellents from a pharmacy or store.

If you ask a local resident with the question of how to get “there”, do not be surprised if this resident takes you to the right place by himself. Montenegrins consider us their brothers and the attitude is corresponding. There are no importunate sellers, like in Turkey, and no prejudice of local young people towards Russian girls.

About excursions

In Montenegro, sightseeing tours can be safely bought at a street kiosk. The price there will be less than that of the guide if you are traveling in an organized way. There is something to see here, the nature is very beautiful and ancient cities, monasteries and sights will leave a favorable impression.

A sightseeing tour of the Boko-Kotorska Bay makes a special impression. The journey takes place by ship throughout the day. The beauty of the coastal landscape cannot be described in any words. During the excursion, you can visit the wonderful ancient city of Herzog Novi, to which you need to climb up the ancient steps.

During the excursion, there will be an opportunity to visit the blue grotto and the natural beach of Zanitsa. This is a uniquely beautiful place with clear water and rocky surfaces. It will be more comfortable to enter the sea in special shoes. There is a cafe on the beach, sun loungers and an umbrella - free of charge. Local agencies offer canyon tours, monasteries, safaris and other tours. You can go to neighboring Albania. The tour is not cheap, decide for yourself, you need such a trip.

The country is poor, the ride is long. Albanians, unlike Montenegrins, do not particularly favor Russians. In their current plight, they consider the USSR to be guilty. It is also not recommended to wear things with Montenegro symbols when traveling to this country. Choose for yourself what you like. You can independently go to the cities nearby. By bus, the trip starts from 3 euros. Since there is no language barrier in the country, you can safely travel on your own.

Where to stay and how to choose accommodation?

Which resort is better to choose? It depends on whether you need silence, a comfortable beach, comfortable conditions. is considered the most popular and therefore noisy city in the high season. During the summer months, the beaches are packed to capacity. It is quieter to have a rest nearby in Becici, Rafailovichi. Resorts in Boka Kotorska Bay are also good, but keep in mind that there you will swim in the bay, and not in the sea like in Budva and the suburbs.

In Montenegro, you can choose different types of accommodation: villa, apartment, room, hotel. Apartments are several rooms in a villa, kitchen, terrace, shower, air conditioning, TV, Wi-Fi zone. Several people can live here. You can save money by booking an apartment in the winter. This is what the Europeans do. In Montenegro, there is almost no “all-inclusive” system, beloved for Russians. This is quite logical, there is no need for it. Indeed, in this country there are so many cafes, restaurants, bars, which have very tasty food, huge portions. You are not attached to the hotel.

There are hotels in Montenegro, but their stardom does not always correspond to the European level. Linen is changed once a week and towels every day. But even in three stars the room has a safe (this is not the case in Europe), hairdryer, new furniture, refrigerator, shower, TV. Breakfasts also differ from European ones, but for the better. Large assortment, fruits, pastries. There is a very interesting unusual tourist complex Slovenska Plaza in Budva.

It consists of villas of 3 and 4 stars. It is a separate area designed as a Mediterranean village with a park, streets, swimming pool, restaurants and shops. Located next to the beach, which is very convenient. All tourists vacationing in Budva can freely walk around the territory. The only drawback is that in summer there are a lot of vacationers, so lovers of silence should choose a place farther from the center.

Meals are organized according to different systems, there is even "all inclusive". The room has everything you need: shower, air conditioning, TV, tea and coffee set. In the evenings, discos and entertaining evenings are held here. The very unusual location close to the beach and the city center should attract the curious traveler.

If you are flying from the airport in Tivat, then do not expect normal conditions with air conditioning. The hall resembles a refugee camp. Very cramped, stuffy, there are very few seats. Of course, if you don't have to wait for the plane for long, then you can survive, for a long stay this room is completely unsuitable. This negatively affects the past stay in this wonderful country. But the tourist infrastructure is just beginning to develop there, so such a "defect" can be forgiven.

Montenegro is a wonderful beautiful country that deserves to be seen and loved. Even those minor "shortcomings" that are possibly visible against the background of European resorts pale in front of the friendliness of the local population. Delicious food and the cleanest sea are a great bonus to your trip.
