Pressing the balcony door from the hinge side. Self-adjustment of plastic doors: recommendations, photo and video instructions. Detailed video instructions for adjusting the balcony door

Greetings to all blog readers! Today we will focus on adjusting PVC doors on the balcony.

A lot of my acquaintances complain that the door is blowing, it does not close tightly, and there are a lot of other problems. I have to go and figure out what happened there.

In fact, there is only one reason - improper care of fittings and rubber bands. Every time you have to explain what needs to be done, how to take care of the door. In this regard, I decided to write instructions for each and every one, suddenly you have the same trouble and you cannot find a solution.

Today, metal-plastic balcony blocks are installed in almost every apartment. As you know, both windows and doors in them can wear out over time. Most often, it is plastic doors that need to be repaired, because in just one day they can be opened and slammed countless times.

At the same time, the door weighs more than the window frame, and accordingly it deforms more easily, and sometimes its "sliding" occurs when the structure is lowered. There is a need for urgent sash repair.

To adjust a failed balcony door, in general, the same principle is used as in adjusting the window mechanism. However, door repair has a number of characteristic properties. We will talk about the problems that may arise during the operation of plastic doors and how to solve them in this article.

First of all, when starting to adjust the door, you need to stock up on screwdrivers (ordinary flat and cross), as well as a 4 mm wrench for adjusting the screws on the door hinges, pliers.

Sometimes it happens that the plastic door to the balcony does not close. This problem occurs, as a rule, due to sagging door hinges or broken fittings, in particular, the lock. Deformation of the sash itself often occurs. In this case, you need to find out the cause of the malfunctions, and only then proceed with the repair.

If the door with its lower structural element, when trying to close it, clings to the sill, and it needs to be lifted, holding on to the fittings, then the sash has dropped under the weight of its weight. Due to the impressive size of the balcony doors, such a skew often occurs. If the door touches the frame in the center, we can talk about the horizontal displacement of the sash or a change in its shape.

This sometimes happens when exposed to high temperatures. Sometimes the mechanism breaks down, which presses the sash to the frame. As a result, the door frame remains slightly closed and does not lock even when you turn the handle. This problem can be eliminated by repairing the clamping mechanism.

Adjustment of the balcony door fastening mechanism

If the structure sags, the upper door hinges are adjusted first.

It is necessary to fully open the sash, set the product in the pivot position, then release the fastening element from the decorative cap (basically, on all metal-plastic doors, the hinges are covered with special caps, it is under them that the screws are hidden).

After that, using a spanner wrench, twist the adjusting screw several times to the right. This will correct the crooked position of the structure and prevent it from sagging again. It happens that the sash rises, it is also necessary to tighten the hinges from below. They have top and side screws.

The door can be raised a few millimeters by adjusting the top end screw. If you turn the side screw with the key, then the sash is compressed or, on the contrary, moves away from the opening.

Thus, sagging is eliminated by rotating the adjusting screws on the hinges in the lower and upper parts of the door leaf. They are designed so that the sash can be slightly displaced in one direction or another.

What to do if the blade touches the frame when opening

In this case, the door can touch the frame with its upper border. This indicates that, while adjusting the sag, the sash was displaced to a greater height than necessary. It is easy to fix this problem: it is enough to make a single turn of the end screw in the lower loop. Sometimes the door cannot be closed completely, and the resulting gap allows cold air to pass through.

Change the sealing material to avoid drafts. To do this, we purchase a suitable seal on the building market or in the store.

Using a screwdriver, we release the groove from the old profile, then clean it from the dried glue, wash it with a damp sponge or cloth.

Then you need to let the groove dry, then apply a layer of glue and attach a new profile with the fastening side. In this case, the cord or material for insulation should not be pulled. It must be gently smoothed out with your hands or with a special copper tube with a bent end. The ends of the profile must be glued firmly.

So that the owners of balconies in the future do not have to frequently change the cord for sealing, it is recommended to process it with a special silicone mixture. Grease silicone is usually available from your balcony block system supplier.

Particularly noteworthy is the handle for the plastic balcony door.

Deformation of locks and fittings is a fairly common problem. Sometimes, the doorknob does not make a full turn and it requires effort.

Such a malfunction is eliminated by applying horizontal door adjustment. In this case, it is possible, especially before the beginning of the cold season, to squeeze the door leaf more tightly in the direction opposite to the hinges. This is fine.

However, in spring it is better to reduce the force of the clamping flap mechanism, since this breaks it faster, besides, the sealing profile is erased.In situations of severe damage to the handle, it is better to replace the deformed structural element with a new one.

If the handle is loose and turns too easily, turn the bar at the base 90 degrees. There are screws underneath that must be tightened. This simple procedure will quickly solve the problem.

In order to check whether the balcony door has been adjusted correctly, we will try to close the sash. If this happens easily, with a slight pressure on the handle, it means that the adjustment is done correctly.

Breakage of the castle

The door frame locking mechanism keeps the leaf closed. With frequent use, it breaks down and requires replacement.

The lock is screwed to the end of the product with screws. You just need to unscrew them, pull out the old balcony latch for plastic doors and screw on the new one.

Elimination of microdefects, scratches and chips

Over time, small cracks and damage may appear on the surface of the balcony door. To get rid of them, use a special mixture called "Cosmofen" or any other component similar in composition. It should be applied to visible areas with defects and wait for the surface to dry.

After that, a special substance is also applied to the chips - plastic in liquid form. For laminated doors, a wax pencil or a so-called furniture stroke is suitable. Sometimes, repairs to a balcony opening can only be done by contacting a specialist.

This applies to such defects as the appearance of cracks and chips on the glass unit, holes in plastic, destruction of welded seams. This could break the door hinge mechanism. In some cases, it is even required to order the manufacture of a new door or call a repairman.

Occasionally, when adjusting the overlap, it becomes necessary to move the glass unit. The adjusting screws can be used to move the door a few millimeters. If a larger angle of displacement is required, it is necessary to combine both types of adjustment - by screws and by moving the glass unit.

The double-glazed window is fastened with sticks. They should be removed, and then squeeze blades should be placed under the glass unit, which will act as a lever, and with their help, the glass unit should be moved in the desired direction. In this case, the spring effect begins to act and the plastic door is displaced after the glass unit.

After adjustment, you need to fix the glass unit again with sticks. These fasteners are different in size for different parts of the structure, so you need to be careful not to mix them.

Fixing the balcony door

In some cases, it becomes necessary to completely remove the sash. For example, for the implementation of its complex repairs or when it is necessary to leave an opening open when entering the balcony in order to take out large pieces of furniture there.

First, remove the special cap that covers the upper loop. Then the axial rod (pin) is pressed. The pressure should fall on its head, which rises above the door hinge. Using pliers, you need to hold the pin underneath, and also pull it out to the end.

The next step is that the structure is tilted towards you and slightly raised, enough 5 - 6 cm. This procedure removes the fasteners from the lower hinge, which allows you to remove the door and move it if necessary.

After a while, the sash must be put back in its place in the opening. The installation of plastic doors on the balcony is carried out in several stages: The lower hinge is pushed onto the rod for fastening with a special hole. Then the door is set in working position.

With correct pressure on the pin of the upper hinge, it will take its original position, while protruding from both sides of the hinge by 5 mm. Finally, put the decorative buttonhole attachments back in place.

Do not forget about the large weight of plastic balcony blocks.

The leaf is quite heavy. If dropped during dismantling, the hinge mechanism will break. In this case, you will either have to buy a new door, or seek help from professionals, masters of installing balcony blocks. In order to avoid such troubles, it is better to remove and hang the door, inviting yourself an assistant.

Often, the installation of a metal-plastic balcony system is identical to the installation of any standard interior leaf or sash. However, the opening method is essential here. This determines the specifics of the installation. It is carried out in stages.

First you need to remove the old floor. The next step is to clean the doorway. It is necessary to sweep away the remaining debris, wipe the sides of the hole in the wall from dust. Then you can go directly to the installation of the door frame.

Moreover, if the installation of sliding products is taking place, it is necessary to attach the guide profiles. The remaining gaps are filled with polyurethane foam, after which the door is put on the hinges. At the end comes the turn of fittings and adjustment of the handle.

As a rule, when buying a balcony door, a guarantee is issued for it. Until the warranty period is over, it is better to use the services of a wizard for installing plastic windows and doors. Some defects and malfunctions are difficult to rectify on your own.

In addition, if you additionally damage the door in the process of adjustment or repair, you will no longer be able to count on the warranty and free troubleshooting.

You can set up a balcony door with your own hands if it has begun to function poorly. However, you need to approach this process wisely so as not to accidentally damage the structure. Therefore, the main thing in installing and adjusting plastic doors to the balcony is the exact adherence to technology, accuracy and care when taking measurements.

If you make a mistake somewhere during the installation process, the door can begin to bend, bend and simply work poorly. Sometimes, when adjusting the balcony door, the locking mechanism is destroyed. In this case, you need to replace it with a new one.

When adjustment of a plastic balcony door is required

The price of a plastic balcony door is quite high, but buying an expensive high-quality model does not save you from frequent cases of breakdowns of the mechanism. It's all about its frequent use, leading to a decrease in the tightness of the sash.

In addition, the glass unit provides excellent sound insulation and PVC guarantees durability. However, it is these materials that noticeably make the structure heavier, as a result of which it begins to sag under its own weight and ceases to close tightly. As a result, a noticeable draft appears in the room, and the insulation of the balcony does not help.

The normal position of the plastic door is as follows:

  • if the door is open, it does not move on its own;
  • no sash displacement;
  • the leaf is firmly pressed against the door frame profile.

If everything is so, no intervention in the door mechanism is required. However, if you notice the slightest deviations, you immediately need to repair the plastic balcony doors. It is not worth pulling with the call of the master, because with each opening and closing the situation will worsen. As a result, this can lead to the balcony doors not closing at all.

Helpful advice! If the door installation warranty has expired and you do not want to contact a specialist, you can watch a video of self-adjusting plastic balcony doors and fix the problem yourself.

Types of balcony door faults

If you are adjusting a plastic balcony door with your own hands, it is important to determine the causes of the malfunction for the success of the repair. The most common problems are as follows:

Fault type Cause of occurrence
Sagging of the door (when closing, the door clings to the plastic threshold) Most likely, the structure is too heavy, which leads to its displacement downward.
Hanging handle for balcony door Usually the handle starts to dangle when the balcony door is opened very often.
Plastic balcony doors do not close tightly (the sash is not tightly pressed against the frame and you feel a draft) As a rule, this is a symptom of a malfunctioning door handle or door skew.
The sash is displaced to the side (the door touches the middle of the frame) Most often, the problem is in the hinges, adjusting them will help eliminate the malfunction. This problem occurs often due to constant sharp temperature changes that affect the fittings for plastic balcony doors in the event of insufficient insulation of the balcony

To test the door for tightness, slam a regular sheet of paper with the flap. Try to drag the sheet around the perimeter of the door. If it moves easily, the structure has lost its density and needs to be adjusted.

Also evaluate the tightness of the gasket pressure: unequal gum pressure, as a rule, indicates sagging. Determining the side of the offset is simple: pay attention to the place where the seal is squeezed and check if there is a trace from the sash on it.

How to determine the skew of the door leaf

If you suspect a skewed structure, cover the sash, and then draw along the perimeter of the closed door with a simple pencil.

Open the door and compare its outline with the drawn line. The presence of irregularities indicates that the door is skewed. For an accurate result, use a building level.

Table of values for door leaf adjustment

Let's say, as a result of measurements, you learned that the width of the drawn strip is 8 mm (an error of 1 mm is permissible). So, everything is in order, and the door is not skewed. If the width of one strip is 12 mm, and the other is 4 mm, this clearly indicates that the door is skewed by 4 mm.

Note! Sometimes it turns out that from the side of the hinges, the width of the strip is 3-4 mm, and from the side of the handle, 6-7 mm. Such indicators indicate a narrowing of the sash by 4-6 mm - this is a manufacturing defect, and it makes no sense to move such a door.

Also check the width of the opening on all sides of the frame. The difference in measurements should not be more than 1 mm. Otherwise, the opening will be in the shape of a barrel - this happens if the installation is incorrect, when the middle of the frame is pulled to the wall more than the top and bottom. Such errors also lead to a loose clamping.

By measuring the width of the sash from all sides, you will determine the correct length of the impost. The difference between three measurements should not be more than 0.5-1 mm.

If the indicators differ from the norm, the length of the impost differs from the required one and causes the door to be skewed.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door: step by step instructions

To avoid mistakes or accidental damage to the glass unit of the balcony door (the cost of which is quite high), you need to figure out how to adjust the plastic balcony doors correctly.

When carrying out work, it is not necessary to overpay for the master: you can adjust the balcony door with your own hands - video instructions can be easily found on the Internet.

To work, you need very few tools:

  • hexagon;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • flat screwdriver.

Instructions and video: how to adjust plastic balcony doors when sagging

If you notice that when you open and close the door, it scratches the bottom edge of the frame, this indicates a sagging of the sash. The adjustment in this case can be vertical or horizontal.

Diagram of vertical and horizontal door adjustment

Horizontal adjustment steps:

  1. Open the door wide to the swing position.
  2. There is a screw near the top hinge at the end of the sash. Take a hex wrench and turn it clockwise 2-3 times.
  3. Remove the plugs covering the holes leading to the top screws.
  4. Turn all screws underneath the plugs clockwise.
  5. After adjusting the mechanism, check if the door now closes freely. Tighten the screws again if necessary.

To understand how to adjust balcony doors vertically, do the following:

  1. Raise the door evenly and find the screw at the bottom of the hinge along its axis.
  2. If the screw is covered with a cover, carefully remove it.
  3. If you turn the screw clockwise, gently lift the door, if against, lower it.

Adjusting the pressure of balcony doors and door handle

To tighten the handle for a plastic balcony door, you must do the following:

  1. Slowly and carefully rotate the plastic cover at a right angle.
  2. Find the screws for the fastening under the plastic cover. Pull them up.

If the handle does not turn well, sometimes it is enough to lubricate the lock with a special material that does not contain resin and acid. In case of complete breakdown, you should buy a handle for plastic balcony doors, unscrew the screws, remove the old part and put a new one in its place.

Helpful advice! A good option is to install a magnetic latch on the balcony door. It will avoid pushing the door handle too often each time the door is closed and opened, which will have a beneficial effect on its durability.

Schematic instruction for self-adjusting the position of the balcony door

If it blows from the plastic balcony doors, this is a sure sign of loose pressing of the sash. It is necessary to adjust the pressure of the balcony plastic door. To figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors to the clamp, look for locking elements on the door leaf. It is they who are responsible for the density of the clamp.

Using a key or pliers, rotate the locking elements until the door is in the desired position. Professionals recommend periodically self-adjusting plastic balcony doors depending on the season.

It is enough to figure out how to adjust the plastic balcony doors for the winter, and you can easily loosen the pressure in hot weather and seal in the cold season.

Sometimes the adjustment of the hinges does not help to solve the problem, and then the looseness of the clamp can be eliminated with the help of the trunnion. To do this, you need pliers.

To maximize the clamping of the door, set the trunnion perpendicular to the profile. On the other hand, to achieve a minimum pressure, place the trunnion parallel.

Replacing the seal and adjusting the door when the frame is scratched

It may turn out that adjusting the door pressure did not bring the desired result. This is because the rubber seal is worn out, and any door adjustments are meaningless without replacing it. For this you need:

  1. Pull out the old rubber. This is done effortlessly and you don't need any additional tools.
  2. Remove dirt from the inside of the groove.
  3. Place a new seal. Make sure that the side bend falls on the end of the sash.

Helpful advice! To facilitate the work, remove the sash from the frame: this way, access to the rubber gaskets will be free from the hinge side. It is better to prefer a seal from the same manufacturer as the installed doors.

If the balcony doors do not close well and touch the frame, scratching its center, follow these instructions for self-adjusting plastic balcony doors:

  1. Lower the sash to the bottom hinge.
  2. Insert the adjusting key into the side screw and tighten the sash.
  3. If the position of the door has not returned to normal, repeat the procedure with the upper hinge.

Prevention of malfunctions of balcony doors

If you had to build a house yourself, adjusting the hardware of the balcony doors is more important, because you want the result of your work to last longer. To minimize the risk of future problems, try to follow these rules:

  • a reputable manufacturer is a guarantee of good product quality, because in terms of durability and performance, the quality of the materials from which the door and fittings are made is of primary importance;
  • when buying fittings, make sure that all the selected parts are suitable for the type and size of the balcony door: please note that modern fittings are designed for a weight of 100-130 kg;
  • so that you do not have to figure out how to tighten plastic balcony doors, take care of the presence of a special microlift: this compensator part prevents the door leaf from sagging under the influence of its own gravity;
  • so that the door does not sag and the sash does not jam, it is worth installing a special additional bus that limits the door opening.

Helpful advice! The microlift is especially relevant in the case of a two-chamber double-glazed unit, which is distinguished by its impressive weight and size. The design of the microlift can be different, representing a small lever on the side of the sash or a roller in its lower part.

Also, even at the stage of installing the door, follow the following points:

  1. Along the entire perimeter of the door frame, the frame must adhere to it evenly and tightly.
  2. Opening and closing doors should be easy and effortless.
  3. When checking with a building level, it should be obvious that the structure is installed exactly vertical.
  4. There should be no drafts.
  5. If the door is installed evenly, in a semi-closed position, it should not open or close by itself.

Remember that self-adjustment of the door is possible, however, it requires attention, caution and thorough diagnosis of problems.

Therefore, if there is a valid guarantee for the balcony door, if the slightest malfunctions are detected, it is worth contacting specialists who will quickly determine the causes of the problems.

If you are sure that malfunctions arise due to a factory defect or installation problems, it is also better to contact a professional - tightening the bolts yourself in this case will not correct the situation.

If you decide to adjust the door yourself, be sure to follow the instructions, and in case of replacing the fittings, choose the products of the same company as your balcony doors.

Adjusting a plastic balcony door is a process during which you can eliminate various minor problems that cloud the operation of this system.

If you want to know how to adjust the pressure of balcony doors with your own hands, then read the article.

More about the operation of double-glazed windows

Plastic windows and doors are an excellent alternative to traditional wooden window and door designs.

They reliably block street noise, protect the home from drafts and fit well into any, both classic and ultra-modern interior.

The main disadvantage of such designs is the fact that they need frequent adjustment. During operation, double-glazed windows may loosen.

What to do when the balcony door does not close properly? Is it possible to fix this problem on your own, without the involvement of third-party specialists? Of course, yes.

How to understand that it is necessary to adjust the pressure of a door made of plastic?

This should be done when you have to make excessive efforts to open the door or when the handle that unlocks the locking mechanism does not do its job well.

Timely adjustment, carried out for preventive purposes with your own hands, will help protect the structure of the glass unit from serious damage and significantly increase its service life.

Conduct a simple test to see if your balcony door design needs a hold-down adjustment.

Open the door ten to fifteen centimeters and watch it move. If the selected interval remains for a long time (in the absence of drafts), then you do not need to worry.

If the door closes on its own or, conversely, opens completely, then you should take care of adjusting the pressure mechanism.

Take a building level in your hands and use it to measure the position of the bottom and top of the glass unit relative to the floor.

If there is even a slight skew, the door should be repaired by adjusting its pressure to the jamb.

If we neglect these works, then it is possible to achieve a significant distortion of the structure, which will lead to the appearance of drafts.

It is worth noting that the adjustment of the balcony door pressure can be carried out not only in the presence of certain problems that arise during the long-term operation of this structure, but also to increase comfort.

For example, in the summer, you can loosen the pressure of the structure in order to create natural ventilation of the room, and in the winter, on the contrary, strengthen it to ensure that there are no cracks and drafts.

The instruction manual for double-glazed windows contains information on how to do it yourself at home.

In addition, you can learn how to adjust the position of the door yourself using only available materials by watching several training videos on the Internet.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door?

To independently adjust the operation of the plastic balcony door mechanism, you should use certain tools and materials.

You will need:

  • screwdrivers of different sizes, equipped with flat and cross profiles;
  • pliers or pliers;
  • wrenches with hex or star profiles;
  • roulette;
  • a simple pencil or erasable marker;
  • high-quality roll gaskets made of PVC and equipped with an adhesive layer.

In some cases, liquid plastic may also be needed to repair a balcony door, which hardens from contact with air.

The position of the balcony door made of plastic can be adjusted both frontally and horizontally and vertically.

In the course of horizontal adjustment, the gap is also controlled, which is formed between the glass unit sheet and the hinge rack.

In the course of vertical adjustment, the height of the suspension is aligned with the door leaf. In the course of frontal adjustment, the pressure of the glass unit can be adjusted.

The adjusting screws with which the door structure is equipped are hidden under special decorative seals or panels.

They can be removed by picking up with the plane of a thin knife or a small screwdriver, or unscrewing them using a small hex wrench.

The instruction manual for the plastic door structure contains information regarding the adjustment of its operation.

If using it you cannot eliminate the existing problem, then you should not try to fix it with your own hands at all costs.

Otherwise, it is possible to damage the door leaf or disrupt the operation of the pressure mechanism of the structure.

Parts such as microlifts and opening stops can reduce the need for frequent adjustments of plastic balcony doors.

They are able to evenly distribute the weight of the door leaf over all fasteners and provide smooth running when opening and closing.

Frequent problems of plastic doors and their solutions

At this point of the article, you can familiarize yourself with the most common problems that arise during the operation of plastic door structures, and learn how to fix them with your own hands in a quick time.

If the balcony door does not open well, closes and clings during these processes to the doorway from the side of the mechanism latch, then you need to loosen or, conversely, increase the tension of the hinges.

To do this, turn the lower, middle and upper adjusting screws one or two turns clockwise.

If the door sags and touches the threshold when closing, then only the upper and middle screws should be tensioned, and the lower tension should be left unchanged.

Use a 5mm Allen key or Torx wrench to adjust the position of the screws.

To adjust the position of the connecting strips, you need to use similar keys with a diameter of two and a half millimeters.

To adjust the door pressure, turn the eccentrics located on the back of the hinges.

Please note that some door mechanisms are not equipped with eccentrics, but with pins, which can only be turned using pliers.

Incorrect position of the door leaf can cause malfunctions affecting the opening and closing of the door.

What to do when it takes a lot of effort to open the door? It is necessary to carry out the adjustment work, which was described above.

If the door is installed correctly and all the adjusting screws are tightened, and the handle still turns with force, then it should be replaced.

To strengthen the loose balcony door handle, tighten the screws that secure it to the plastic structure.

This can be done with a plastic screwdriver. The screws connecting the handle and the door are located under the plastic cover.

A deformed PVC door seal can be replaced with a new one. Please note: there are several types of these seals.

To understand their differences and buy exactly the one you need, you should come to the store either with a sample of the seal, or with a technical passport issued by the installer of the door structure.

You can remove the deformed seal with your own hands using a flat-profile screwdriver.

The groove in which the seal was located should be cleaned of the remnants of glue and debris, degreased and poured a new layer of glue or liquid plastic into it.

After the glue "seizes", you should apply a new layer of insulation to it and wait for the complete adhesion of this structure.

Adjusting plastic balcony doors is a simple process that you can handle yourself.

To reinforce confidence in the success of adjusting the door structure, you should watch several thematic videos on the Internet and be sure to read the instructions for using the plastic product.

The owners of houses and apartments increasingly prefer to install plastic doors on the balcony. This is not surprising, because they have a modern and pleasant look, retain heat well and do not let in street noises.

People who have installed such doors sooner or later face the problem of exploitation. Even reliable and expensive plastic structures installed by professionals need adjustment.

It is not always possible to seek help from specialists. Therefore, you have to solve the problem yourself. This article will help you with this, it describes the main breakdowns and how to fix them.

Causes of malfunction of plastic doors

As a rule, a breakdown occurs due to a violation of the position of the door leaf. The reason for this is the frequent use of the door. Over time, moving parts gradually wear out and need to be adjusted. But before adjusting the plastic door, it is necessary to determine the cause of the breakdown.

Major malfunctions:

  1. The door leaf touches the lower threshold or rubs against it. The reason is the heavy weight of the door. The hinges do not hold up and the whole structure is underestimated. This happens especially often in the summer, when the door is constantly open.
  2. The edge of the door leaf touches the frame in the area of the lock. This is due to exposure to high temperatures - direct sunlight or persistent hot weather. As a result, the door structure is deformed. This problem is eliminated by adjusting the hinges.
  3. The door leaf does not press well against the frame or does not reach it at all. This is due to worn-out rubber seals. To close the door tightly, adjust the clamping eccentrics, if the problem cannot be solved, the seals are changed.
  4. The handle goes down all the way, but the door does not open. This happens because the locking mechanism is jammed. It takes more effort to open the door. As a result, the handle becomes loose and may break. The problem is solved by changing the lock, if it could not be repaired.

Today nobody is surprised with PVC - constructions. They have long since replaced wooden windows and doors in living quarters. But not many people know that any plastic structures need timely adjustment and preventive maintenance. These works are not complicated, so it's easy to do them yourself.

Required tools
Getting started with self-adjustment, arm yourself with the necessary tool to "reanimate" the balcony door.

You will need:

  • flat and curly screwdriver;
  • set of hexagons;
  • asterisk nozzles;
  • pliers;
  • roulette.

Vertical door adjustment
With the help of vertical adjustment, the height of the door is changed in relation to the door frame. A sign of a malfunction is the grazing of the canvas over the edge of the threshold, a large force when opening, the appearance of dents on the upper and lower seals.

The adjusting screw located at the top of the hinge will help to correct the situation. A hexagon is used to adjust the position of the door. If the screw is turned clockwise, the door will rise, and if turned in the opposite direction, it will lower.

Horizontal door adjustment
In this case, the side clearance of the door leaf is set. To gain access to the adjustment mechanism, remove the plastic cover. There is a screw at the bottom of the hinge that helps to move the door to the left or right.

It is enough to make a few turns and the door will take its usual position. After setting the hinges, the hooks in the lock area are removed. When the canvas touches the threshold, the upper and middle hinges are adjusted.

Pressure adjustment
It is called frontal adjustment - it allows you to set the required tightness of the door to the frame. Special eccentrics located in the lateral part are responsible for the downforce: at the bottom, in the center and at the top.

The setting principle is the same for all door models. It consists in the following: it is necessary to move the eccentrics closer to the door sealing gum. This is done with a hex or star screwdriver. If you turn counterclockwise, the eccentrics will move closer to the elastic, and the clamp will become stronger.

To check the tightness of the door leaf to the frame, use a regular thin sheet. You can take a piece of A4 paper. The sheet is inserted between the sash and the edge of the frame. Then the door is closed and the paper is pulled out. If the pressure is good, the sheet is pulled out with difficulty.

Elimination of geometric distortions

However, it is not always possible to solve the problem by adjusting only the screws. If they are configured correctly, but the door still does not close well, then you will have to use another method. It consists in correcting the geometry of the door leaf.

To align the door, remove the glass unit. To do this, with all care, using a chisel, you need to pull out the glazing beads that support the glass. Correction of geometry is done using pre-prepared spacers. They need to be inserted between the plastic edging and the glass unit in certain places. If done correctly, the door geometry will be flat. After finishing work, each glazing bead is carefully installed in its original place with a rubber hammer.

Fixing problems with the lock

A lock on plastic doors is the least hassle. But he also needs to be monitored periodically. It happens that the handle is turned with effort or not completely. This is mainly due to the uneven position of the door leaf. After the manipulations described above, the malfunction is eliminated by itself. Otherwise, you will have to change the lock.

Handle adjustment
The handle may become loose over time. To fix this, rotate it ninety degrees. You will see some screws. Tighten them with a screwdriver and the handle will stop loose.

Prevention of malfunctions of plastic doors

Proper care of a plastic balcony door will allow you to operate it for many years without frequent adjustments. To do this, carry out timely preventive work.

  1. Equip the door with a microlift and a stopper. With the help of the first part, there will be no sagging of the door in the closed position, and the second will not allow the hinges to loosen when fully opened.
  2. The door itself is heavy, so don't make a hanger out of it. Some owners of plastic profiles are in the habit of clinging clothes to the handle or drying towels. The additional weight will cause the door leaf to sag noticeably.
  3. Seals should be lubricated regularly with silicone. After processing, the gums tolerate high temperatures well. In winter they will not stick to the frame. As a result, the service life of the seals will be significantly extended.
  4. The lock also needs lubrication. A handle that is difficult to turn, requires more effort. This will lead to a distortion of the door structure, as well as to breakage of the handle.

The faults described are not complex. The problem with adjusting plastic balcony doors is easy to solve with your own hands without the help of specialists. Timely and proper care will help avoid such troubles. Apply these simple tips and then warmth and comfort will constantly reign in your room.

How to adjust a plastic door yourself

Perfect and precise design a metal-plastic door, but it does not begin to function clearly. In the case of wooden doors, in addition to hinges, this can be caused by deformation of the canvas itself or the frame, plastic doors begin to "play up" solely due to a malfunction of the mechanism. How to adjust a plastic door with your own hands, let's figure it out in detail.

Possible malfunctions

A normally installed and functioning door should be easy to open and close, the box should not be rubbed in the alignment, and the abutment should be uniform around the perimeter. An open door in the absence of drafts must be in a stable position.

The clamping mechanism is obliged to "bring" the door without a gap between it and the frame. It is easy to check - a sheet of paper sandwiched between the porch of the door and the frame should be pulled out with some effort along the entire length of the porch.
Failure to meet any condition means that the geometry is violated.

The balcony plastic door has sagged or the sash has shifted relative to the box. All defects are corrected by adjusting the fittings.

If the warranty period has not yet expired

this must be done by the service department of the company that installed the door. Otherwise, you can call the wizard. But modern designs are good for that, if there are instructions, independent adjustment of plastic doors is quite within the power of anyone and requires a minimum set of tools for this - hex keys, screwdrivers and pliers.

This article discusses the most common cases of adjusting swing plastic entrance (interior) and balcony doors.

There are methods for pendulum or sliding systems.

Adjustment of a plastic door with three hinges: entrance

The entrance ones differ from the interior ones in the thickness of the profile and the glass unit, but their hinges are similar. And the differences from the balcony are more significant. This is both the type of hinges and the absence of a folding mechanism (for ventilation). Let's figure out how to adjust a plastic door with three hinges on our own.

Usually, such doors have three hinges - the upper and the lower, and the third one can stand next to the upper or in the middle of the canvas. In principle, this is the usual arrangement and the number of hinges so that they normally "hold" the weight of the door. Differences can be in the design of the hinge and the pressure mechanism, and therefore in the adjustment.

Surface mounted hinge (type greenteQ TB 100.ZD.K)

This hinge has a decorative strip and is adjustable in three dimensions.

Horizontal and vertical displacement takes place with two screws, and the clamp is adjusted using a screw and a strap between the hinge and the box.

1. To adjust the skew:

Adjustment of plastic doors relative to the vertical axis horizontally (right-left), it is necessary to remove the decorative strip on the hinge installed on the canvas. First, open the door and unscrew the screw that holds this bar. Then the door is closed and the plank is removed. Under it are 6 mounting screws for a screwdriver (perpendicular to the blade) and one adjusting screw for a hexagon - parallel to the blade towards the hinge.

By twisting or unscrewing it, you can adjust the offset of the door relative to the vertical by 5 mm in each direction along the X axis.

2. To raise (and even lower)

the sash uses a turnkey adjusting screw located at the lower end of the hinge. It is covered with another decorative strip, which is simply "unfastened".

They can raise the door by 4 mm or lower by 1 mm, relative to the factory setting along the Y-axis.

3.Adjustment of the plastic door: fine adjustment of the pressure

(within 1.5 mm) is carried out using a screw located at the upper end of the hinge.

For "rough" adjustment it is necessary to remove the door from the hinges, and then the part of the hinge that is installed on the frame. It is attached to it through strips, which can have a thickness of 1 mm to 5 mm. In this way, you can additionally adjust the door hold-down (along the Z-axis).

Door hinge type WX

has horizontal adjustment up to 6.2 mm, vertical adjustment up to 4 mm, the clamp can be adjusted with a screw up to 1.8 mm (if necessary, the clamp can be improved with additional bushings at the point where the hinge is attached to the box).

1. The horizontal adjustment is carried out using the side screw located under the decorative strip on the hinge, which is attached to the door. First, you need to unscrew the screw that fixes the position of the hinge relative to the "0" level. It is located in the body of the hinge and runs parallel to the door leaf. Then you need to unscrew the screw that locks the outer decorative housing of the hinge, by displacing which, you can get access to the adjusting screw.

With its help, you can shift the position of the sash to the right or left.

2. The pressure is adjusted on the counterpart of the hinge (fixed to the door frame). It is necessary to remove the decorative cap from the end of the hinge. Under it you can see an eccentric with slots.

In order to release it, it is necessary to unscrew the locking screw (it is located on the side of the hinge housing on the side of the door). Then, using a special key inserted into the slots of the eccentric, it is necessary to turn it to the required angle and lock it. Thus, you can strengthen or weaken the clamp.

You can use a regular plate or a wide flat screwdriver, but the vertical adjusting screw will interfere. In this case, it must be completely unscrewed.

3. Vertical adjustment is carried out with a screw screwed into the hinge from below, through the clamping adjusting eccentric.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door

Adjustment of plastic doors follows the same algorithm as for plastic windows. Each manufacturer's fittings may differ in the way they are adjusted, but in many respects they are similar.

Adjustment of plastic doors horizontally (X-axis) to the right or to the left can be done with two screws in the lower and upper hinges (depending on which part of the door is "overwritten").

Both screws are visible when the sash is open. The lower one is located in the supporting part of the hinge on the box.

The upper one is located in the mating part of the hinge on the sash.

By tightening or unscrewing the screw, the sash can be displaced from the box or towards it.

The vertical adjustment (Y-axis) is carried out using a screw located in the lower hinge behind the decorative strip, on the outside of the door on the sash itself.

It is located at the end. By screwing or unscrewing it, the door is raised or lowered.

The pressure is adjusted by turning the eccentrics located in the vertical end of the door leaf.

First you need to find out in which part the clamp is too loose or too strong. The eccentrics "work" in tandem with the locking plates on the box. If the eccentric is located along the sash - the clamp is minimal, perpendicular - the maximum. Turn the eccentric with pliers.

Another type of adjustment of the door hold-down occurs not with the help of eccentrics, but with the help of a locking pin at the end of the sash.

It has a hex key hole and a test point (at risk). Depending on the position of this point, the pressure may be stronger or weaker. Adjustment of plastic doors and very similar.

There is a third type of pressure adjustment, which occurs with the help of a counter (locking) plate located on the box itself. It can be displaced relative to the frame, thereby strengthening and weakening the door connection.

In addition, it is possible to adjust the plastic balcony door not only from the side of the hinges and eccentrics, but also to correct the pressure from the side of the folding mechanism.

First you need to fold the open sash.

But the mechanism itself does not allow turning the handle up when the sash is open. To remove the handle fixation, it is necessary to press the "tongue" (flag, clip) at the end of the door, in the area of the handle itself.

It may look different, but its principle of operation is the same - when closed, the sash presses it and unlocks the handle, which can be turned upward, setting the door for ventilation. If you open the door and press the "tongue" with your hand, then the door in this state can be folded up at the top. But at the same time, it is better to keep it suspended - after all, it will keep at the bottom at one point on the lower loop.

The inner part of the upper hardware mechanism will open (usually the door "closes" it). There will be one (or two) eccentrics with hex adjusting screws.

With their help, you can press (or squeeze) the door in the hinge area.

Having pressed the "tongue", the sash is returned to the vertical state, after which the door can be closed.

These are the main methods for adjusting mechanisms of different types of doors.

Information on the note : .

Adjusting plastic doors yourself video.

Adjustment of plastic doors is extremely rarely required, provided that such structures were correctly installed initially. In most cases, the need for tuning is due to the formation of a natural imbalance in their mechanisms during long-term operation.

Plastic doors - what to check after installation?

Experts recommend ordering plastic (PVC) structures exclusively from those manufacturers who have positive feedback from consumers and are recognizable in the building materials market. Low-quality products, even with the most careful attitude, will fail very quickly and bring you a lot of trouble. They will have to be constantly repaired and, in the end, still acquire new designs.

Also, special attention should be paid to the installation process of the purchased doors. The installer must carry out the correct initial adjustment of the structure installed between rooms, at the entrance, on the balcony. When accepting the assembled door, check:

  1. 1. The tightness of the door frame and the frame of the installed structure. If the product sits like a glove, then everything has been done correctly. The fit should be uniform and tight in all areas of contact.
  2. 2. Accuracy of vertical mounting. The door must open and close without any serious physical effort on the part of the user.
  3. 3. The presence of drafts. Open the structure halfway, wait a couple of minutes. In situations where the door spontaneously closes or swings open, we are talking about improper installation. Demand competent adjustment of the product.

Common causes of PVC structural problems

Customizing plastic doors on your own allows you to eliminate basic problems. The latter usually arise due to the fact that the moving units of the products of interest to us get lost during operation. This leads to a change in the location of the PVC structure in relation to the door frame. Frequent malfunctions of plastic doors are caused by the following phenomena. First, by rubbing the blade in the area of the handle or slightly above this area. A similar problem occurs due to thermal deformations. It is especially often observed during the operation of balcony and entrance doors.

Secondly, by rubbing the canvas along the threshold (that is, below). Many consumers believe that this phenomenon is due to the poor quality of the product. But this is not true. It was just that during installation, the adjusting screws of the mechanism were not tightened completely or not tightly enough. Also, mashing often occurs when the door is heavy (for example, if you have installed heavy double-glazed windows on it). Excessive mass leads to sagging of the structure.

Thirdly, due to the loss of tightness by the door unit. The malfunction is caused by an insufficient tight fit of the structure to the frame or by a change in the position of a special roller in the door structure. The problems described are easy to solve on your own, without calling the masters and paying for their far from cheap services. In addition, the PVC door on the balcony, the entrance to the house, between its individual rooms, can be adjusted on your own and in the presence of other difficulties with its operation. More on this later.

When to Perform Immediate Setup

Adjustment of the balcony doors and plastic doors installed at the entrance to the building is carried out immediately if they let cold air in the closed state, as well as in the following cases:

  • opening the product requires the application of tangible physical efforts;
  • the door is not kept closed when the locking mechanism is open;
  • the handle of the lock is loose or turns very tight;
  • the structure clings to the box when slammed.

These phenomena indicate that the door needs to be set up urgently. If you do not do this right away, after a short period of time you will not be able to use it fully. And then it will be necessary not to regulate the structure, but to carry out its full-fledged repair, which will require serious financial costs. In some cases, running doors have to be replaced with new ones. Also, adjustment of a plastic balcony door is also needed in case of implicit violations in its functionality.

Experts advise to independently check the state of the structure every 6-12 months using simple techniques. Take a regular sheet from a school notebook. Place it in the middle of the threshold and close the door. The piece of paper should be tightly clamped with the canvas. Then pull the paper out from under the door and pay attention to the force applied to perform this operation. Then place a piece of paper under the other side of the opening. Pull it out again and so on. If the applied force is the same in all areas, there is nothing to worry about. The structure is in good condition. If, in one area, the leaf is easily pulled out, and in the other - with great difficulty, then the position of the door in relation to the box has changed. Customization of the PVC product is required.

The second way to check is a little more complicated. You need to arm yourself with a simple pencil and stand in front of the door from the opposite side in the direction of its opening. Then you slam the structure, outline its perimeter along the edge of the box using a pencil. Open the door and look at the resulting lines. In cases where they are strictly parallel to the edges of the canvas, everything is fine. If there is no parallelism, you need to figure out how to adjust the plastic door and start performing this operation.

Regardless of the test results, be sure to adjust the pressure of the structure after winter, as well as before the onset of cold weather. In the spring, the clamping mechanism should be slightly weakened, and in the fall, it should be strengthened. Then the elements of the block will begin to wear out significantly more slowly, which will increase the period of trouble-free operation of the plastic product.

Adjustment options - horizontal and vertical

Plastic structures are adjustable in horizontal, frontal and vertical directions. All operations are performed using simple devices and working tools. Stock up on pliers, screwdrivers (flat and cross-shaped), tape measure, PVC spacers, hexagons (it is advisable to have a full set of such keys with different types of profiles in stock).

Horizontal adjustment of plastic entrance and other types of doors makes it possible to choose the size of the gap between the hinge support and the canvas. For opening to the left or to the right, a special element is responsible - the screw. It usually hides under a special cover that covers the adjusting part we need. When, when closing, the PVC door rubs against the box (along the entire height or only in the middle part) from the side where the locking mechanism is installed, the problem is solved simply. Do-it-yourself balcony door tightening is done as follows:

  • Open the plastic structure, unscrew the screws from all the loops with a 3 mm hexagon. You get access to decorative elements.
  • Remove the lining (before that you need to slam the door).
  • You see the adjusting screws in front of you. Turn them clockwise (number of revolutions - 1–2). It is necessary to turn the screws on all hinges at the same speed!
  • If the sagging of the door is noted only in the lower left or right corner of the door leaf, only the middle and upper hinges should be tightened. The bottom does not need to be touched.

Vertical adjustment allows you to choose the optimal suspension height of the plastic structure in relation to the box. This adjustment is carried out when it is necessary to lower or raise the entire door. The operation is performed by means of screws that are located at the ends of the (lower) hinges. The adjusting parts are directed along the axis of the latter. On PVC entrance doors, as a rule, the screws are covered with a plug. It needs to be dismantled. The screws are rotated with a 5 mm hexagon. When the adjusting part is turned clockwise, the door structure is displaced upward, counter-downward.

To adjust the strike plates (elements located at the bottom and top of the box), use a 2.5 mm hexagon wrench. But in this case, you will additionally have to use screwdrivers. They make it possible to displace the striker plates.

Correcting the position of the clamp using different parts

Frontal adjustment is used when you need to adjust the pressure. This procedure is carried out in different ways, depending on the design features of the plastic product. The clamp can be adjusted:

  1. 1. Eccentrics. They are mounted at the end of the canvas (in relation to the hinges - on the opposite side). It is necessary to crank the eccentrics to ensure the required pressure.
  2. 2. Trunnion. This detail is found on the door hardware. The trunnion is adjusted with pliers. If you want to loosen the clamp, it is turned strictly parallel to the plane of the door. Use pliers carefully to avoid damaging the part. To increase the clamping, the trunnion is rotated perpendicularly.
  3. 3. Mounting plate. Under it is a hexagon screw of a certain profile. It is necessary to move the bar and conjure with the adjusting element. Check the pressure level after each turn of the screw.

With long-term operation of plastic doors, their adjustment by means of screws becomes more and more difficult each time. At one point, you will see that the adjusting parts are set to their extreme positions. There is simply nowhere to rotate them. In situations like this, try adjusting the door with plastic spacers.

Gently pry off the glazing beads, which fix the glass unit in the door product, with a regular chisel. Dismantle them. Using small blades (sold in building stores), insert PVC gaskets between the leaf and the glass unit, thereby changing the geometry of the door. We must say right away that it is difficult to perform such a procedure on your own. It is necessary to select the thickness of the gaskets up to a millimeter and, in addition, to know the exact place where they need to be mounted. Be sure to mark the dismantled glazing beads. They must be put back in the same places where they were. When installing glazing beads, use a rubberized hammer. This tool will gently knock out the fasteners.

Replacing the seal and adjusting the handle - we do it right

If the door structure is used with a bias for a long time, this is guaranteed to lead to deformation of the seal. Instructions for replacing the latter are given below:

  1. 1. Get a new seal. Pay attention to the shape of its section. It should be similar to the previously used product.
  2. 2. Using a screwdriver, take out the broken seal.
  3. 3. Clean the free groove from the remnants of the adhesive and dirt. Process it with glue.
  4. 4. Mount a new sealing product. It should sit freely in the groove without the slightest stretch.

PVC door handles are often loosened during operation. They may also not fully rotate or go very tight. We can handle loose handles without difficulty. Dismantle the cover that covers the area of fixing the locking mechanism to the canvas. You will see two fasteners in front of you (usually screws). They should be slightly tightened with a screwdriver (Phillips). After such an operation, the pen will work flawlessly again.

Other defects of the locking device in most cases arise due to the distortion of the door. As a rule, after adjusting the blade according to the methods that we discussed above, the handle begins to function normally. If the adjustment of the PVC structure did not solve the problems with constipation (it still does not close well), you will have to change it.

How to prevent malfunctions of plastic doors

If you want to customize PVC structures as little as possible, pay special attention to the fittings installed on the door. The mechanisms of the latter should easily withstand loads of up to 120-130 kg. Then you will not think about how to pull up the door for a very long time, and figure out why it does not close well. Cheap fittings (in particular, Chinese) are not designed for the specified loads. Its strength limit is 80–90 kg. Naturally, it breaks down quickly enough.

In addition, the presence of two important options in it - an opening limiter and a microlift is of great importance for the trouble-free operation of plastic doors. PVC structures are not initially equipped with these devices. They must be ordered separately before installing the plastic product. The opening limiter is a kind of tire. It takes up some of the weight of the door. This significantly reduces the risk of sagging of the plastic sheet. With proper initial adjustment, the limiter excludes the possibility of door strikes against the slopes, due to which the period of trouble-free operation of the fittings increases by 2-5 times.

On heavy doors (entrance, balcony), equipped with double-glazed windows with two cameras, it is recommended to install a microlift. This device counteracts the sagging of the cloth when it is closed. A microlift, in essence, is an additional support element that takes on some of the loads. Structurally, it is made in the form of a roller or a movable plate. They are mounted in the lower part of the door leaf or in its end.
