Correct laying of carpet. How is carpet laying done with your own hands? Installation instructions for carpet. Tension laying

At first glance, carpet flooring to uninformed people may seem like a daunting task. There are many ways to carry out work, each of which has its own characteristics, so it is very important to choose the one that best suits the situation.

The service life of the carpet depends not only on its type and quality, but also on the type of installation. It is necessary to start this operation strictly after finishing the finishing work. Concrete, linoleum or parquet can be used as a base. In this case, it is absolutely not required to specially prepare the base before. And yet, some conditions will need to be taken into account:

  • the base under the deck must be level, dry and clean
  • the material itself must be pre-acclimatized, namely, lie for twenty-four hours in the room where the work will begin
  • in the room, the minimum air temperature should not be lower than fifteen degrees, and the humidity should not be less than 75%.

But before proceeding directly to the installation, you need to decide on the characteristics of the carpet. The Russian market today can present a whole collection of this material, which differs from each other in a number of indicators and prices. The carpet is produced from synthetic raw materials. The only natural material used to make carpets is wool. The carpet made from it is perfectly cleaned, masks all the unevenness of the floor, has good moisture-repelling properties, is not capricious in care and is wear-resistant.

Carpet laying methods

There are three main options for laying: stretching, adhesive and free.

Stretching

Stretching or, as it is also called, the glueless method was developed by the British. requirement - elasticity is found.

Getting started, the first thing you need to do is level the floor, if necessary, patch up all cracks and potholes, clean it of dust or dirt, and dry it. It is advisable to use a backing that reduces the friction of the carpet on a hard base. Next, you need to attach special strips (grippers) with two rows of nails around the entire perimeter of the room.

Nails are driven in at a forty-five degree angle and directed towards the walls. At the same time, special construction tools are used for laying and fixing the carpet. When the canvas is stretched over the slats, it is necessary to bend its edges along it. Such work requires special skill and dexterity. It is wise to use the help of specialists. Stretching is recommended for installation in offices or residential buildings.

Adhesive methods

Direct gluing

It involves fixing the carpet on the floor surface using a special adhesive solution. This method is more suitable for conservative rooms where interior changes are infrequent. Basically, it is used for arranging wooden or concrete floors, as well as surfaces that have been leveled with a cement screed.

To begin with, the bases are cleaned and dried. Then the carpet spreads. It is carefully unscrewed and glue is applied. For these purposes, it is best to use a serrated dispenser. A strip is smeared on the carpet, left to dry for ten minutes, and then glued to the floor, rolling this place with a roller. In this way, the entire carpet is gradually laid.

If it becomes necessary to cover the floor with several canvases, then a special method should be used for the joints. The edges of the carpet are not glued, they are overlapped with an overlap of five to seven centimeters. Then, in the middle, the edges are simultaneously cut off, the floor is coated with glue at the joints and a heavy roller is rolled over them.

This method is suitable for premises with very high traffic: restaurants, educational institutions, medical institutions.

It should be noted that the adhesive fixation technology has various options. Let's highlight two of the most popular ones.

Laying for fixation

Will not damage the floor when the cover is removed. A special type of glue is used in the work, which does not have a self-adhesive membrane. This allows you to remove the carpet, if necessary, without damaging either the coating itself or the floor. Such styling is not desirable in rooms where temperature or humidity is changeable.

Double sizing

It is used if the carpet is laid on a substrate, which is pre-attached to the base. This method will not work if you are going to use a "warm floor" system.

Free method

It is divided into two types:

Fixation with double-sided tape

The choice of adhesive tape depends on the type of carpet. Its width varies from 63 to 150 mm.

This is one of the most popular styling methods, the technology of which is as follows:

  • laying, after preliminary preparation of the base, takes place on a smooth surface (parquet, linoleum, etc.)
  • adhesive tape is glued around the entire perimeter. Then, with its help, a "mesh" is attached with a square of 50x50 centimeters. In this case, it is not necessary to remove the protective paper from above.
  • The carpet is laid with a margin, leveled with a roller and carefully cut off the excess. After that, the canvas is carefully turned off, the paper layer is peeled off the adhesive tape and fixed to the floor. Then it remains only to install the skirting boards.

Perimeter fixation

An optimal cost and not so complicated method, best suited for work in small areas, where you can lay the carpet in one layer.

  • carpet material with a margin of 10-15 centimeters is placed on the base so that it goes over the walls
  • using a roller / roller to smooth out the resulting irregularities, moving from the center to the walls
  • trim excess
  • fixing the carpet - with the help of plinths against the walls, a sill in the doorways.

As, probably, it already became known from the above read, the floor does not require any preliminary preparations, and there is no need to purchase additional materials: glue, tape or substrate. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the material about.

But this simplicity also has a downside - in the course of further operation, the following problems may arise:

  • it is not possible to achieve maximum evenness - folds and bubbles remain on the surface;
  • not strong enough;
  • furniture on wheels or a vacuum cleaner risk damaging the coating

Requirements for the room when laying carpet

The carpet will be securely fixed to the floor if a certain temperature regime is provided in the room and the humidity does not exceed sanitary standards. Do not lay the flooring in the following cases:
  • If the temperature and humidity differ from sanitary standards for three days in a row: the temperature does not fall within the range from +18 to +27 degrees, and the humidity exceeds 75%.
  • With sharp jumps in temperature and humidity, even if the parameters remain within tolerance. In this case, the cloth will creep.
With slow temperature fluctuations over a long period of time, the material can adapt to changing conditions. For example, the fastening strength will remain the same if the temperature changes from summer to winter.

If there was no carpet in the room before, remove the doors from their hinges or lift them, otherwise they cannot be opened after finishing work.

Preparing the floor surface before laying carpet

Preparation for laying carpet consists in determining the size of the material, examining and processing the rough base, purchasing special tools and carrying out other works that guarantee a high-quality floor covering.

Before laying the carpet, you must carefully prepare the floor. On the concrete surface, all the cracks are closed and the ledges are knocked down. The remnants of the old coating are removed from it. Small cracks are sealed with a crevice sealant, large ones with textured mastic. The base is treated with a deep penetration primer, otherwise dust will constantly appear from under the carpet.

If there are greasy stains, remove them with solvent. Treat the clean floor with a solution of 1 part bleach and 15 parts water, which will kill bacteria and mold. After special treatment, rinse it with clean water.

The flooring lies well on a level surface, so check the levelness of the floor with a hydrostatic level or other method. Deviation from the horizontal within the room is allowed no more than 4-5 mm. If necessary, it is leveled with means intended for the specific floor material.

Concrete has good moisture absorption properties, so lay carpet with a synthetic base, with or without olefin pile on it.

Cover the wooden floors with chipboard sheets, seal the cracks with wood putty, and remove the protruding parts. After the putty has dried, prime the surface and cycle the wood. After installing the chipboard, make sure the doors open freely. Trim the door leaf if necessary.

The hardest part is to rework old worn out or uneven parquet flooring. To level the surface, you can use a mortar intended for wooden surfaces, or lay a drywall sheet on top.

A substrate is laid on the prepared floor, which prolongs the life of the material due to the reduction of the friction of the carpet on the hard floor. In addition, the lining increases the sound insulation and thermal insulation of the coating, extending its service life. It hides the unevenness of the floor, which allows you to work without leveling the surface.

A substrate must be used when laying the panel on the parquet. This is due to the fact that when walking, the dies act on the coating in the places of their articulation. The choice of lining depends on the type of carpet and the technology of its attachment to the floor. For example, a polyurethane backing is made with a polyethylene top layer and is ideally suited to stretch carpeting.

Carpet is not laid on the warm floor. The canvas will not allow the room to heat up, and there is a danger that after the temperature rises, the carpet will creep.

Tools and materials for laying carpet

To accurately determine the size of the carpet, draw a plan of the room to scale and indicate the location of doors, niches, ledges and other elements on it. Determine the size of the canvas from the picture, increase by 10% for possible shrinkage, and when buying, add 10-15 cm on one side.

If the floor is irregular, measure the maximum length and width and purchase a blank for those measurements. Correct measurements will cover the surface in one piece. Typically, carpet is sold in rolls of 2, 4, 6 m, from which you can cut parts for standard rooms.

When buying, make sure that the manufacturers allow the carpet to be fixed to the floor in the way you have intended. The material indicates where the canvas can be laid, for example, on the stairs.

During transportation and storage, do not bend the material; creases may remain. Before laying the carpet, bring it indoors and let it sit for 3 days. The material should completely warm up, and the air between the villi should acquire the humidity of the room.

Without a special tool, it will be problematic to properly cover the floor with carpet. Buy or rent the following gadgets:

  1. A carpet cutting knife is a professional device that resembles a sewing machine. It looks like a corner with a handle. The knife is pulled by the handle and pressed to the floor. The cut strip comes out from the side.
  2. The roller carpet cutter is a tool for experienced workers. It is lighter and costs less than a professional rig, but in inept hands, a roller knife can ruin the coating.
  3. Spare blade knife - for cutting the carpet after gluing.
  4. Notched trowel - for applying glue (in the case of gluing carpet).
  5. Scissors - for finishing the edges.
  6. Tape measure - for measuring the size of a room.
  7. Grippers - devices for tensioning the carpet when laying the covering using the "stretching" method.
  8. A special roller - for straightening and rolling out the coating. Compared to painting, it is wider and harder.
  9. Metal ruler for cutting material.
If you plan to glue the carpet, you can determine the approximate amount of adhesive solution by the area. The average consumption of the mixture is 0.5 kg per 1 m 2. The exact information can be found on the product packaging.

The joints of the carpet with other coatings are covered from above with metal profiles. Worry about their availability.

Carpet installation technology on the floor

If you want to do the laying of carpet with your own hands, study the typical instructions for performing work in different rooms.

Free laying of carpet

It is used for small rooms where the floor can be covered with a single piece, for example, on balconies, dressing rooms and other deserted rooms. This is the fastest way to install carpet.

The order of work is as follows:

  • A substrate is laid on the floor, fixed with a stapler. The staples are hammered in after 20 cm.
  • Roll the carpet on the floor with a 5 cm twist on the walls. It is recommended to place the material with the pile towards the door. It is more convenient to clean it this way.
  • Use a roller to flatten the fabric from the center to the edges.
  • Cut out V-shaped protrusions in the corners.
  • Cut the carpet around the walls. Start trimming from the center to avoid unevenness. Leave a guaranteed gap of 5-10 mm between the canvas and the wall. They will help prevent the appearance of wrinkles and bumps.
  • After cutting, the cloth should lie on the floor for some time in order to straighten out and lie down. After that, check again for gaps - the carpet should not touch the walls.
  • Stretch the canvas and secure it with a plinth in this state.
  • Fix the carpet near the doors with a metal strip.
  • If several parts of the covering are laid on the floor, coat the edges of the joints at a width of 15 cm with special PVA glue, and then press down with a load.
Free laying of carpet does not require careful preparation of the base, but the method of fixing to the floor is not very reliable. Furniture cannot be moved along it, the material is not recommended to be vacuum cleaned due to the danger of pulling the carpet out from under the baseboard. Wrinkles may appear on the cloth over time.

On small areas, carpet can not be fixed, it is enough to process the edges with an overlock. You will get a small rug that can be removed and cleaned.

Fixing the carpet on double-sided tape

The method does not depend on the size of the room and the unevenness of the floor, but it is recommended to use it in rooms with an area of no more than 30 m 2. In large rooms, carpet on double-sided tape can wrinkle, and tape can deform when heated.

This method of fastening is reliable and the ability to quickly replace the coating. On the fixed panel, you can move furniture and even ride on rollers without fear of its coming out of the baseboard.

For work, you will need a universal double-sided tape to fix the carpet. Belts are produced in widths from 63 to 180 mm. They are able to hold the coating for 2 to 7 years. The wider the tape, the more reliable the connection.

Perform the work as follows:

  1. Wash the floor thoroughly.
  2. Remove the protective paper from one side of the tape and glue it to the floor around the perimeter of the room, and then parallel to the walls, in increments of 50 cm. As a result, the tape should form a grid. Do not remove the protective layer from the top side of the adhesive tape.
  3. Lay the canvas on the surface, align, cut off excess parts around the perimeter of the floor, as described above.
  4. Fold one side of the carpet to the middle on the other half.
  5. Gradually removing the protective film from the tape in place of the raised carpet, roll the canvas across the floor.
  6. Repeat the procedure for the other half of the material.
  7. Install the skirting boards.

If you need to cover the floor with several pieces of carpet, follow the recommendations for joining them. Please note that the parts for covering the floor in the same room must be from the same roll. The cuts are laid with an overlap of 4-5 cm on top of each other, and then two canvases are cut off with a knife at once. The ends are bent, the cut parts are removed and released. The joints are ironed with a roller.

Bonding carpet to the floor

Laying carpet on glue is the most reliable way to fix the covering. The method is used in spacious rooms, industrial premises, hotels, restaurants - i.e. in places where a large load acts on the material and reliable fastening of the panel to the floor is necessary. In this way, it is convenient to lay several pieces of the covering.

The flooring can be glued in two ways - single and double. A single cover is fixed on even, well-prepared surfaces. Double gluing does not require leveling the floor, you can fix the carpet on uneven and non-horizontal floors (with the maximum permissible slope). In this case, a special bedding is first glued, and on top of it - the main coating.

There should be a mark on the carpet that it can be glued. Check out the base materials on which the brand of glue depends. The solution should be liquid, so as not to smear it on the floor, but to adjust it in the right direction. If there are areas with linoleum, you need to make sure that when the composition gets on it, there will be no chemical reaction.

The following adhesives are suitable for gluing:

  • Reactive two-component adhesive... Specially designed for gluing carpets. After hardening, it remains elastic. The adhesive layer retains its strength properties at very low and high temperatures. The two-component composition can fix the material even in the vertical plane. The solution grabs within an hour, finally dries up after two days.
  • Disperse adhesives... Diluted with water. The most famous of the dispersed adhesives is PVA. It adheres to various materials, is odorless, does not burn and does not emit harmful substances.
  • Universal formulations... These include Forbo glue. It is made on an acrylic base, has a high adhesive capacity, and is easy to use.
The procedure for gluing the carpet is as follows:
  1. Spread the canvas on the floor, align and trim with a margin of 10 cm per side. If several pieces are spread, the joints must be placed perpendicular to the window, in the direction of sunlight, they are so less noticeable. Also make sure that the fluff on different parts of the cover is in the same direction. Fold the workpiece in half.
  2. On the surface that has opened, apply adhesive strips with a notched trowel 25-30 cm wide in such a way that a grid is formed on the floor with a pitch of 50 cm. You can also make stripes from the center to the walls. The tool for each type of glue is different, well-known manufacturers sell the device along with the solution, but more often the parameters of the spatula are indicated on the packaging of the goods.
  3. Do not apply too thick a layer of the mixture. An overdose can cause a solution to appear on the front side and ruin the pile. Work especially carefully with jute-based carpets. Remember that re-fastening of the material is impossible, the canvas torn off the floor is unsuitable for re-laying.
  4. Spread the canvas, press it well to the floor. Fold back the other half and repeat the procedure.
  5. Trim off excess material around the perimeter of the room using a ruler and a sharp knife. When trimming the inner corners, the canvas is first cut diagonally, you do not need to cut it to the floor.
  6. Nail the baseboards around the perimeter of the room.
After gluing, do not walk on the canvas until it is completely dry and do not install furniture. If the technology is followed, there will be no bubbles or wrinkles on the surface.

Fastening carpet using the "stretch" method

In a similar way, you can attach the material to wood floors or surfaces covered with linoleum. Installation of carpet is carried out using special strips - grippers, similar to thin strips with inclined tips.

The carpet must be marked allowing it to be fastened in a similar way, since the grippers are designed only for certain types of products. The instructions attached to the coating also give recommendations on the need to install the underlay under the flooring.

The order of work is as follows:

  • Spread the grippers along the walls at the distance given in the instructions for use of the material.
  • Spread the carpet on the floor and cut along the outer edge of the batten. Using a special device, move the gripper with the carpet to the walls, while the upper edges hold the covering, and the lower does not allow it to move back.
  • After tensioning the covering, the skirting boards are installed with a special hollow in the middle.
It is recommended to use the "stretching" method to lay the carpet on the parquet. At the same time, the dies are slightly damaged, but this method extends the life of the coating.

There are two methods of laying a panel on staircases - universal for buildings of any configuration, for even structures. In the first case, each element of the staircase is covered with a separate piece. To determine the shape and size of the workpiece, a paper template is used. The sheet is applied to the step and riser, pressed in the corners with a spatula and outlined around the perimeter. A blank is cut out of the panel according to the template, and then glued. Straight staircases are covered with a whole piece of carpet.

How to lay the carpet - watch the video:

Competent carpet laying will transform the home and make it more beautiful, more comfortable, insulate and protect it from noise. We can only be proud that you were able to make such a magnificent coating yourself.

WITH Today you will learn how to lay a carpet - a "fluffy" covering, in fact - a carpet that completely covers the entire floor of the room, creating coziness and comfort. Carpet covering is practical and relatively inexpensive, and in addition, it increases the heat and sound insulation of the room. With all of the above, laying carpet with your own hands is not difficult, especially when you know how and what to do.

Carpet material is multilayer. From above there is a pile, which is fixed ("stuffed") in a special way on the primary base made of coarse fabric made of artificial or natural fibers. The bottom layer (or secondary backing) gives the carpet strength, it can be made from both fibrous (woven) and solid synthetic materials. The base layers are connected using a fixing layer, in other words, glue.

The material for the pile is wool, both pure and with the addition of synthetic fibers (such a coating is more durable). For inexpensive grades of carpet, artificial materials are widely used: polypropylene, polyamide and the like.

The quality of the carpet depends on the materials used, the thickness and density of the pile. Usually measured by the number of stitches per meter. The greater the number of stitches (and, accordingly, the villi) per meter, and also the thicker the threads that form them, the denser, stronger and, accordingly, heavier the carpet.

Types, manufacture and materials of carpet

I distinguish carpet according to the manufacturing method:

Needle Punched Carpet

The pile between the two layers is pierced by needles and pulled outward, remaining anchored inside.

Tufted (or needle-stitched) carpet

In this case, the machines sew through the primary base of the carpet by pulling threads through it, resulting in loops on the outside.

Modern carpet is made by tufting, when the primary warp is pierced and threads are inserted into these holes, then these threads can be tied at a knot, or glued to glue. All this is done with special machines. The manual method of producing carpets like carpets is rarely used.

Tufted carpets are the most common today

On the primary base, penetrated with pile, a secondary base is glued, which gives the product strength and fixes the pile.

Features and disadvantages of carpet

Carpet is a carpet, with all the ensuing features and disadvantages, but also, accordingly, the advantages of carpets.

Having laid half of the carpet on a layer of glue, smooth it out and do the same with the second part. After the carpet is laid, roll it with a hard roller, moving from the center to the edges. Let the glue dry and install the skirting boards (you can find out by the link).

The advantage of the present laying method is that the carpet can be laid not in one piece, but in several strips, which is inevitable for large rooms.

And finally, the last method of styling.

Carpet laying with mechanical fixtures - grippers. Stretch carpet fixing

Let's take a look at how to install carpet in this case. At the beginning, as in the previous methods, we adjust the carpet to the size of the room, but then we roll it up and remove it. Along the perimeter of the room, with the help of glue or self-tapping screws, we install special strips - grippers, equipped with two rows of inclined studs, points directed upwards and towards the wall at which they are mounted. Before laying the carpet on the floor, put a backing (usually made of felt) to compensate for the thickness of the grippers. We cut it to size, close to the grippers.

We put the carpet on the studs along one wall, then we stretch it and fasten it to the gripper against the opposite wall. We repeat this operation along the perpendicular walls. With a special spatula, and in its absence - with a spatula, fill the excess roll carpet into the gap between the wall and the gripper bar.

Using the stretching method, laying the carpet with your own hands is somewhat difficult due to the use of a rather specific tool, which is not used in ordinary construction work - a device for stretching the carpet.

Joints of carpet and other coatings

Now a little about the structural solutions of the joints. If everything is clear with adjoining walls, columns, and other similar elements - skirting boards are used there (→ described in the article), then at the transition points from one room to another - where the carpet is combined with other coatings, at the joints of individual pieces - you have to come up with something other.

In these cases, strips of carpet, pre-fitted to each other ("cut", Fig. 3), are glued to the floor and (or) to each other. If coverage permits, fastening can be done with a stapler.

In addition to simply fixing two canvases next to the base (like wallpaper), they can be pre-connected using special strips (tapes). The strips are glued or thermally fused to the inside of the carpet. However, additional fixation to the base in the places of such connections is still needed.

We cut individual pieces of carpet as follows: we put their edges on top of each other, in the presence of a pattern, achieving its exact match. Then we press this place with a long metal ruler or a rule and with a sharp knife cut both panels at once, using the ruler as a guide.

In modern landscaping of apartments, hotels, offices, carpet is often used, which is pleasant for walking on it barefoot or in shoes.

Carpeting will make your room cozy, add originality to it. You can install this coating yourself.

For this product to serve for a long time and with high quality, reliable carpet laying technology is important.

Carpet and its methods of laying out

Carpet is a soft floor covering on a rubber or jute base with a pile in the form of full or cut loops. The surface of the product is soft, with high sound and heat insulation, the service life is quite long. This material is moisture resistant, within reason. After a few hours, the carpet dries up and the creases are smoothed out.

Carpet can be laid on absolutely any flat surface, such as parquet, linoleum, concrete.

Statistical charges that accumulate on the flooring must be removed by taking certain measures, using a grounded copper tape or mesh, using conductive glue, a primer.

Carpets are bought based on the size of the room, plus 30 cm of stock on each side, preferably in one piece.

The conductive primer is applied to the subfloor and must dry completely. Copper tape 1.5-2 meters long is glued with conductive adhesive every 40 m². On one side, part of the tape should be against the wall so that it can then be connected to the grounding point.

With the processed edges, a joint is made at the factory. If they are not processed, then the product is overlapped.

In different rooms, rooms, offices, the methods of laying carpet are varied: free laying, stretching (tension method), adhesive fixation.

Floor laying rules

When laying carpet, you should adhere to the following rules:

  1. In the premises where the work will be carried out, there should be a temperature maximum of 18 degrees, a minimum of 15 degrees.
  2. Before laying the material, it should be kept indoors for at least a day, especially in winter.
  3. The carpet product must not be laid on a cement screed, because cement dust penetrates through the rubberized base into the carpet itself.
  4. The base for the carpet must be made clean (no debris, dirt, paint), even, hard and dry.
  5. The material for the carpet product must be purchased from one batch.
  6. When lining a covering with a pattern, it is necessary to provide the necessary amount of material for an exact match of the pattern. It is necessary to lay carpet flooring strictly according to the structure of the pile.
  7. It is necessary to fix the artificially created carpet so that there is no shear, slip, in order to extend the service life.
  8. Laying work must be started from the center of the room, room.
  9. It is better to take the material for laying with a margin of 15-20 centimeters, since not all walls and corners are perfectly even.
  10. It is possible to install furniture, and then move on the coating after 24 hours.

In the bedroom, carpet can be laid with a long pile. In the nursery, however, such a carpet should be with fine pile so that small objects do not get stuck there and can be easily vacuumed.

Free styling

To apply glue to the floor, use a special spatula, then roll out the carpet and level it with a roller.

The most economical way is to lay the carpet loosely with fixation throughout the room. An artificially created carpet must be laid so that it goes 5-10 centimeters onto the wall. After that, the material is rolled with a special roller, leveling from the center to the edges, cutting off all unnecessary.

At the end of these works, the coating is fixed with plinths, the passages in the doors are fixed with metal slats.

According to this method, carpet is laid in small rooms, using one sheet of the product.

In addition to the advantages of this installation (small economic investments on the substrate, glue or tape), there are also disadvantages: the inability to clean with a washing vacuum cleaner, low resistance to material wear, denting and bubbling, the inability to drag heavy furniture over the product, as well as to move furniture on wheels.

Back to the table of contents

Double sided tape

One of the quite often used is the following method of laying - laying out on double-sided tape. The adhesive tape method of laying implies a thorough tidying of the floor. This material is lined on flat, dust-free surfaces: linoleum, porcelain stoneware, marble, parquet, laminate, tile.

By the type of carpet product, scotch tape 63-150 millimeters wide is selected.

When fixing the carpet around the perimeter, it is necessary to remove the skirting boards, lay the material, smooth the covering and cut off the stock.

Double-sided tape is first of all glued to the entire floor, it is made in strips of 5-8 cm mesh with 50x50 cm cells. The protective top film cannot be removed, 10 meters of tape is enough for 8 m² of carpet flooring. The carpet is cut with an excess of up to 5 centimeters in all directions, then laid out on the floor, the protective film is removed from the adhesive tape, and then the coating is glued. After finishing laying the carpet, cut off the excess material with a knife. If the plinth is nailed, then you should step back from the wall by 5 centimeters.

This method of laying carpet can be suitable for finishing the floor in offices, apartments, for those who like to change the decor of their apartment often.

This method with its own advantages: you can easily replace the flooring, simplicity and speed of installation, the substrate is not required. However, there are disadvantages: the need to carefully prepare the floor, the possibility of bubbling, wrinkling, deformation of the adhesive tape due to moisture, temperature changes.

Direct glue spread

This glue method can be used by those who rarely change their furnishings in the apartment, since the applied glue is not always completely removed.

The glue is applied with a special serrated dispenser, in which the appearance and height of the notches depend on the type of carpet.

This adhesive method of laying out the product is suitable only on concrete and wood surfaces and is practical for rooms with high traffic (educational institutions, restaurants, corridors).

With direct gluing, there are many positives: the spread of the flame slows down, it can be cleaned with a washing vacuum cleaner, the method is designed for a large area, you can install furniture on wheels, there is a low probability of air bubbles, wrinkles. At the same time, this is a labor-intensive production, the carpet material cannot be reused. When replacing the carpet, it is necessary to re-prepare the floor for the next work.

The main value of every home is comfort, and many things contribute to its creation.

Important among them is a beautiful and warm floor.

If the carpet is an unaffordable luxury for you, then it will be worthily replaced by the carpet.

It is cheaper, but a little more moody when styling.

First of all, it should be remembered that you can lay the carpet only after all the rough repair work has been completed... Otherwise, the surface can get dirty and lose its appearance.

However, this nuance will only please with its end result and you can safely enjoy the beautiful and comfortable floor.

Preparing the base of the floor

Carpet feels comfortable not only on concrete, but also on laminate, as well as on parquet and linoleum.

Strict requirements are imposed on the base of the floor: a perfectly flat surface and cleanliness (there should not even be dust).

Besides, the humidity of the base itself, and the room should not exceed 75%... In addition, it is necessary to carry out several preparatory steps:

  • in concrete, seal all cracks and potholes with cement and a primer;
  • wash linoleum well, clean it from dirt, degrease, let it dry and remove folds, if any;
  • clean the wooden base from debris, wash and also dry.

What to lay the carpet on?

The use of a backing (intermediate material between the base and the carpet) has a number of advantages:

  • makes the coating softer;
  • contributes to sound insulation;
  • increases the service life of the coating by about one and a half times.

Carpet is usually laid on a backing, which is usually made of felt, polyethylene foam or polyurethane foam, but must be resilient.

When buying, be sure to check this - bend it in half. If the material folds easily, don't buy it.

Laying methods

Carpet laying methods depend on the room in which the covering will lie.... If it is a balcony, a loggia, a pantry, a small children's room, then free laying with fastening under the plinth will be enough.

If the room is more spacious (hall, living room), then it is better to use the stretching method or gluing with double-sided tape.

In offices, hotels, cafes, canteens and other places with high traffic, only glue installation will give an acceptable result.

Remember that carpet is bought not by the size of the room, but with an allowance of about 5 cm on each side. Moreover, it is better to do with a single piece of material.

Free styling

  1. We unfold the carpet around the entire perimeter of the room and lay it with the factory edge close to one of the walls. In all other directions, the coating should creep slightly onto the walls.
  2. We straighten the "waves" and "wrinkles" with a heavy rubber roller from the center to the walls. After that, we firmly press the edges of the carpet with our hand to the junction of the wall and floor.
  3. Carefully cut off strips of excess material along the fold line with a knife and fix the carpet with plinths.

Bonding with tape

Can be glued directly to the base, or can be glued to the substrate.

  1. First, double-sided tape is attached around the perimeter of the base.
  2. Then a mesh is made with a step of 50 cm. We glue it on one side, and do not touch the other for now.
  3. On top of the scotch tape we put the pre-cut parts of the carpet. We do this carefully, carefully fitting to the walls.
  4. When all proportions are met, remove the protective layer from the tape and glue the coating to it.
  5. Carefully smooth each part with a roller. If a substrate is used, then we repeat the indicated actions with the tape twice.

Stretching method

This is the most difficult way to install carpet.... For stretching, you will need special slats on which there are 2 rows of nails driven in at an angle of 45 degrees, as well as a special tool - a stretcher (kicker).

It allows you to stretch the material a little, but you need to do this carefully, as if the stretcher is used incorrectly, the coating can be damaged.

The sequence of actions when laying carpet using the stretching method is as follows:

  1. Along the perimeter of the room, grippers (slats) are fixed so that the nails look into the wall.
  2. A subfloor is laid on the floor, carefully adjusted to fit the grippers. It is better to secure it with a stapler.
  3. A carpet is placed on top. It is cut to fit the walls and with the help of a stretcher the edges of the carpet are stretched, and then tightly fixed with the help of grippers.

Bonding with glue

This is "tightly" carpet laying. It is also available in two versions - with and without backing.

First you need to unfold the carpet, carefully straighten it, cut off the excess. The following steps depend on which room you want to put the carpet in:

  1. Long corridor... We bend the coating and glue it in the middle. This is done so that the center is well fixed and does not fidget during further work. Then we apply glue to the remaining parts of the base and press down.
In this case, the amount of glue should be strictly metered (depending on the quality and thickness of the material). It must be applied in circular movements with a spatula with notches, otherwise there will be no uniform distribution.

At the end, you should walk over the entire coverage area with a heavy rubber roller so that air comes out, otherwise the formation of bubbles, as well as bumps on the surface, cannot be avoided.

  2. Wide room... In this case, bend one half, apply glue and carefully glue it. We do the same with the other half.

If you are using a backing, you will first need to glue it to the base and then lay the carpet to the backing.

  • When buying carpet, add another 10% to the required volume... This allowance will be enough for the carpet to occupy the entire area of the room (even with uneven walls and no right angles).
  • In order for the carpet to be "obedient", it is necessary to bring it into the room at least 24 hours in advance.... Work on the correct laying of carpet must be carried out at an air temperature of at least +15 degrees, the temperature of the glue and the material itself from +17 degrees and humidity not higher than 75%.
  • Carpet can only be laid when all other repair work is completed..
  • If there are joints, seams should be made perpendicular to the windows, then they will practically not be visible.
  • You need to take care of the carpet with a powerful vacuum cleaner in a "dry" mode, and remove heavy dirt with special means.
