When building a house, the decoration of the outer walls plays an important role. It not only provides visual appeal, but also protects the house from the effects of bad weather and the environment, thus significantly increasing the service life. In this article, we will consider options for exterior decoration of walls and corners of the house, as well as analyze the option of decorative facing the corners of the building from the outside.

general information

Before proceeding with the processing of the outer walls of the house, you will need to first install windows and doors, if the building was just built. If you plan to finish a wooden house from the outside, then it is necessary that it shrink. Also keep in mind that wall cladding should be carried out after the wood is completely dry.

You can perform work at almost any time of the year, so there shouldn't be any complications with this. The choice of covering often depends on the material from which the building was constructed. Sometimes simple plastering or painting is enough, and in other cases additional wall insulation will be required.

Also keep in mind that some types of finishes can significantly increase the pressure on the foundation, so make sure the foundation of the building is solid before using stone or brick.

Types of external wall cladding

Nowadays, there are a fairly large number of surface treatment methods. Most often, the following are used for external walls:

  • wall cladding with natural stone;
  • brick covering;
  • artificial stone;
  • sheathing using siding or lining;
  • applying plaster to the wall.

Let's take a closer look at each option.

A natural stone

The use of stone for the exterior walls will give the house an austere look. Such processing of the outer walls demonstrates the success and prosperity of the owners of the house. The advantages of stone cladding include:

  • the strength of the processed facade;
  • long service life of the coating;
  • attractive appearance.

Also keep in mind that due to its properties, the stone will do an excellent job of protecting the surface from the effects of moisture from the outside. The stone can be used both for complete decoration and for partial decoration, for example, for the basement or corners of a building. There are two types of building stone to choose from: processed or untreated. The last option looks more attractive, but it is a little more difficult to work with it.

Quite often, it is granite that is used for external walls; this option also has a decorative effect. Marble is also used, which has a great variety of shades. The price is really quite high, so not everyone can afford this luxury.

Another disadvantage is the large weight of natural building materials. However, there is a stone called travertine, it weighs much less, while it has good sound and thermal insulation effects. The method of finishing with travertine is greatly simplified, and the price does not bite so much.

Keep in mind that decorating the walls with a stone outside is in any case a rather expensive and difficult task that will require special skills and knowledge from the worker. Therefore, we recommend that you pay careful attention to other types of cladding.

Fake diamond

Choosing an artificial material is a good option for treating exterior walls. It doesn't even require any prior preparation. This stone has almost the same performance as the real material.

This method of finishing allows you to give the building a pleasant appearance and at the same time requires only minimal costs. Keep in mind that the texture of such a stone can be both smooth and embossed, so the choice is yours. There is also a fairly large variation in shades that will provide a home with a unique design.

Siding

Siding in our time has gained quite high popularity, due to good indicators of price and quality. This coating is installed with an overlap - this must be taken into account when finishing the wall. Most of this material is made from vinyl, but there are options in metal or even foam. This treatment of exterior walls and corners has the following advantages:

Installation of siding must be done on the frame of the house. Quite often, insulation is used during installation. The only drawback of this finishing option is the poor combination of siding with other decor options. Please note that installation must be done with extreme care to avoid damage to the material.

Clapboard decoration

The lining is made from natural ecological components, so it will not cause any harm to humans. It is made in the form of a processed wooden board. The lining will provide the house with an attractive appearance, besides, it will visually align the outer wall and provide good sound insulation.

However, such a finish for external walls and corners has almost all the disadvantages of wood, so additional processing with special solutions will be required. Lining is most often made from the following types of wood: oak, pine, spruce, birch, walnut and linden.

Using bricks

Brick will provide good protection for the exterior walls and corners of the house from environmental influences. This processing method can be considered one of the most durable options. In addition, the brick will provide a sophisticated appearance and do not require any special maintenance. The installation method is also quite simple.

Thanks to the ability to vary the size and shape of the brick, you can create an unusual design. Using fired brick will also produce impressive results. The main disadvantages of such a finish are the heavy weight and high cost of the material.

Plastering

Plaster is mainly used when it is necessary to create a decorative effect of the outer wall and provide protection from fire. Decorative solutions are of different types; silicate mixtures are especially popular.

Also, acrylic solutions are often used, which have improved characteristics. Decorative plaster for exterior walls and corners is available in many varieties, so the choice will not be easy.

This finish will protect the building from moisture and fire. Significant disadvantages can be considered a low service life, which will not exceed ten years, as well as the need for additional leveling of the wall, and especially the corners, which will require time and effort.

Combined finish

There are two ways to combine:

The latter combination method has become much more common. These methods will allow you to provide an interesting interior for the building and endow it with the properties of each type of cladding.

Finishing the outside corners of the house

Corner treatments are often made from the same materials as the wall. It is also the occasion when you want to create a decorative effect. For finishing corners used: brick, stone, plaster, foam, tiles and other materials. Remember that working with corners is quite hard work and sometimes it can be difficult to get by without the help of professionals.

For finishing the outer corners of the building, special foam panels have recently begun to be used, which provide an unusual decorative effect. The same treatment is also suitable for wooden houses. With such a facing, the building acquires the effect of antiquity and becomes like a castle. We recommend watching the following video to see how styrofoam corners are handled in practice:

Summing up

As you can see, decorating the walls of a house is extremely important, which provides a decorative effect and allows you to achieve additional protection. There are many options, and it will be quite difficult to choose one of them. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, which were discussed in detail in the article. If you wish, you can choose a combination option, however, it must be borne in mind that it will be quite difficult to carry out the finishing, since special skills and knowledge will be required. The choice of exterior wall cladding will only depend on you and your personal tastes and preferences. We recommend watching a special video to learn more about the methods of finishing the exterior walls of the house and their corners.

Elegance in the details: the corner finishing system

The beauty of the facade is in the overall picture, which consists of details imperceptible at first glance. But there are no unimportant little things! And finishing the corners of the house takes a special place among them. Here you need a well-thought-out system of elements that will decorate the house, combine with the main decoration and at the same time strengthen the most vulnerable places of the corner joints of the panels.

To give a house with a siding finish an aesthetically complete look, the Alta-Profil company has released the Alta-Decor system of finishing elements. Outside corners are also included in this collection.

Decorative finishing of the corners of the house for facade panels

The collection of front panels "Alta-Profil" is harmoniously complemented by curly outer corners. In structure and color, they match the panels, whether brick or stone. Corner finishing can be done:

  • absolutely identical to the facade of the house;
  • contrasting facade: you can decorate the walls with brick, and the basement and corners - with facade panels "Rocky Stone" or from any other collection.

You can “try on” various combinations of curly outer corners and facade panels and choose the most suitable one using the online program “Alta-Planner”.

Universal corner finishing system

The collection "Alta-Decor" also includes a universal finish for the corners of the facade of the house, which can be used with absolutely all finishing materials "Alta-Profile" - horizontal, vertical and foam siding, block house and facade panels. In addition, such a system can be installed with other types of finishes - for example, on a plastered facade.

The corner finishing system consists of a base and overhead finishing elements in three different sizes. By combining them with each other, you can achieve interesting design effects. There can be a lot of options, and the choice depends solely on the taste of the owner and the desired result.

Basic installation rules: how to trim corners?

The corner trim system is installed in much the same way as siding and facade panels. Since corners more often than walls are subjected to increased loads, it is preferable to mount on a metal crate.

A flat lathing profile is used to install the corner trim system.

In the process of finishing the corners, the following rules must be followed:

  1. The first step is to mount the "fastening base" profile. To do this, 3 screws on each side are screwed into special holes on it.
  2. Overhead elements of different sizes are attached to the base in any order. They are inserted into special grooves and snap into place.
  3. It is necessary to think over the installation procedure in advance, since the finishing elements are suitable only for one-time use.
  4. No special tools are used during installation.
  5. Siding and façade panels are inserted into a special gap between the battens and overhead elements.
  6. If the panels are thicker than the gap, then they are fastened using a mounting shelf, which folds over on each side and is fixed in the corresponding clips.

Sheathing the corners of a house with a plastered facade

The Alta-Profile corner finishing system is suitable not only as an addition to siding and facade panels, but also with plastered facades. In this case, you need to cut off the mounting shelf for fastening from the profile of the fastening base, and fix this profile on the wall using self-tapping screws. Further, the installation of overhead elements is carried out in the same way as they are installed when decorating a house with siding or facade panels.

Such a system will become an attractive accent if the house is finished with decorative plaster, and will also help to strengthen the most vulnerable parts of the facade.

Outside corner finishing: 5 reasons to choose Alta-Profile

Outside corners require additional reinforcement. Plaster in this place most often crumbles. And the panels at the joints also need protection. The Alta-Profil external corner finishing system helps to solve this problem.

Finishing the corners allows you to create a bright and unique design of the facade of the house. For facade panels, you can choose curly outer corners that repeat or contrast with the facade finish.

For siding and decorative plaster, Alta-Profil has developed a universal corner finishing system. By combining various geometric shapes, you can make the facade extraordinary.

The corner finishing system is very easy to install, without the use of special equipment and tools. Even a beginner can handle the job.

The finishing elements are made of environmentally friendly plastic: they are durable, do not fade in the sun, are not afraid of moisture and temperature changes.

In addition, materials for finishing corners can be purchased together with siding or facade panels "Alta-Profil". You don't have to waste time looking for suitable materials. Our specialists will calculate the required number of profiles and strips as accurately as possible. And a certified installation team will install them in accordance with all manufacturer's requirements. You only need to choose how you want to see the facade of your house and, in particular, whether the corners will neatly reinforce the finish or become a bright and attractive design element.

Papered and plastered outer corners need protection. Wallpaper from frequent contact is overwritten, the putty is destroyed. You can solve the problem with decorative corners. The corners to protect the corners of the walls can be of different materials.

Corners for protecting wall corners: selection options

This technique of decorating the corners of the walls - protective corners - not everyone likes, but there are no special alternatives. In any case, on the walls covered with wallpaper, the corner is still better than sticking out and torn canvases.

There is only one solution to the integrity of the wallpaper without the use of decorative corners - to make not an acute angle of the slope, but a rounded one. In this case, there will be no problem with its finishing. You can simply wrap the wallpaper canvas without cutting it. But you need to bring out the corner perfectly, otherwise you will have to cut it again, which means that the question of protecting the wallpaper joint on the corner will again arise.

It is important to choose the right decorative corner so that it does not look alien. There are special techniques for this.

It is necessary to choose corners to protect the corners of the walls based on the general design of the room. There are several standard solutions:

In general, choosing corners to protect the corners of the walls should be tied to the design of the room. This can be done after the furniture and textiles are placed. In this case, it is easier to imagine the end result. Because the picture in our head can be very different from reality.

If you can't find an acceptable color in any way, and you need to protect the corners in the apartment, pay attention to the transparent plastic corners. They are of different types - rigid, flexible, with different wall thicknesses.

Types of protective corners: from what materials

According to the area of application, the corners are for external (outdoors) and internal use. For now, let's talk about how to protect corners in an apartment and a house - indoors. Let's start with the materials. The corners to protect the corners of the walls can be:

The most popular are plastic corners to protect the corners of the walls. Do not think that such protection looks pathetic. In any case, no worse than frayed corners. It's just that the plastic is different in appearance - polished, with a metallized effect, with a satin (matte) surface, with a different relief. It is clear that in order to find something specific or special, you will have to run around hardware stores and markets. But there are many types of design. If the corners to protect the corners of the walls are selected correctly, they organically fit into the design, absolutely not attracting attention. At the same time, the joints are protected and decorated very reliably.

Shapes and sizes

The finished corners usually have an angle of 90 °. The corner itself is not always sharp, there are options with a rounded one. By type, the corners for protecting the corners of the walls are divided into:

  • tough
    • external;
    • internal;
  • flexible (plastic, rubber)
  • universal.

Questions can only be universal. These are two strips of plastic or MDF connected by a thin strip of flexible material of the same color. Thanks to this connection, an obtuse or acute angle, internal or external, can be made without much difference. But in terms of protection reliability, it is inferior to rigid ones - after all, the flexible part is quite thin.

It is also worth knowing that the corners can be with shelves of the same and different widths. More often they are found with the same, but it is quite possible to find those in which one is wider, the other is narrower.

The shelf width differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Plastic, for example, can have shelves from 10 mm to 50 mm. MDF corners are minimally made with a shelf width of 20 mm, metal corners - from 10 mm, but the maximum shelf length is 90 mm (aluminum). So there is plenty to choose from.

What to mount

The choice of the method of attaching the corners to protect the corners of the walls depends on the material of the corner, on what surface they will be attached to. The most commonly used glue. Moreover, the leaders are “liquid nails”. This is a universal compound, but check that the specific brand can adhere the materials you need before buying.

You can put a corner on the glue if it is even, without big flaws. If there are pits / depressions, you are unlikely to glue it. In this case, silicone can be used. If you glue the white corners, you can use white silicone. It is better to take transparent under the colored ones. It is not always desirable to use acidic. Although cheaper, it can damage metals or paint.

In both cases, the wall and corner must be clean and dry. The composition is applied to the corner, it is pressed against the corner, fixed with strips of masking tape. We grab it after 40-60 cm.If everything is even, it is possible after 60 cm, if it is necessary to repeat the shape, after 40 cm or even more often.

Leave in this state until the glue dries or the silicone hardens. See the package for the exact time. The masking tape can then be removed. It differs from ordinary adhesive tape in that it peels off even from paper wallpaper without damaging the surface. But to be sure, try sticking and peeling in an inconspicuous place.

Foam rubber corner - L-shaped and universal on a self-adhesive base

There is another option for how you can glue the corners on a wall with wallpaper, painting. You can use double-sided tape. Glue it first to the corner, then, after removing the protective coating, press it to the corner. There are corners to which the tape is already glued. Certain types of foam rubber or plastic (usually flexible or versatile).

Arch finishing

Arch design is often a problem. In general, there are not many outside corners in the apartment, but they are mandatory on the arch. And in the aisle, they very often hurt. Either with furniture, then with another load, or just a resident who did not fit into the opening. And if there are no questions with the direct part, then the rounded part can be a problem.

In general, universal corners can be used for the arch. They are flexible, which is very convenient. There are flexible non-universal ones - plastic, made of a special polymer of increased elasticity.

But in general, corners with different widths of shelves are used to decorate arches. They are even called arched. They have one shelf 10 mm (outer), the second - inner - 30 mm and more. They bend easily. Do not twist it into a donut, but it is not difficult to get any curvature of an arc. It will only be necessary to use a secure fixation while the glue dries.

If you want to bend an ordinary corner, you can do this by heating the plastic. For this job you need a building hair dryer. Regular - for hair - will not work, since its temperature is too low. We also need a template according to which we will bend the plastic corner. Take a piece of fiberboard, screw in self-tapping screws or hammer in nails, forming the profile you need.

So you can arrange the corners of the arch with protective corners.

Bending starts from the middle. Warm up the area by constantly pressing on the middle, and with a hairdryer moving from the center to the edges. So it is necessary to bring the corner to the desired curvature and leave it in this position to cool. So that it does not straighten, holes are made for the second row in parallel with a number of self-tapping screws. The distance between the rows is equal to the width of the corner shelf. After the plastic is bent, insert and slightly tighten the screws. After the plastic has cooled, we remove them.

How to cut finishing corners

Almost always, the corners have to be cut to protect the corners of the walls. They are sold in slats from 2 to 3 meters long. The cutting tool is selected depending on the type of material. For wood and metal, thick plastic, you need a hacksaw, but the blade is different - for wood, and with a small tooth for metal or thick-walled plastic.

Thin plastic can be cut with a construction or office knife, sharp scissors. If you want to cut perpendicularly, it is easier to use scissors. We cut them to the corner on both sides, bend the corner, cut the remaining millimeters with a clerical knife. If there are flaws, they can be easily corrected with the same knife or sandpaper with a very fine grain (polishing).

If the plastic corner needs to be cut along the fold, we cut it along the inner corner with a clerical knife. Cutting through to the full thickness does not make sense. You just need to leave a noticeable strip. Then we fold back the piece to be removed. It comes off at the cut. Remove irregularities with a knife or sandpaper.

The most characteristic part of the house, in terms of architectural decoration, is the corner of the house. In this part of the building, you can see all, or almost all of the elements of the facade stucco molding.

Roof overhang decor

The overhang of the roof is decorated with large or small, complex or simple, single or multiple under-roof cornice. An additional dividing strip on the facade can pass just below, allowing for color zoning of the facade of the house. The very corner of the house is designed with many options in order to visually reduce or increase the height of the structure. Rusts, pilasters, combined options are the main types of facade decor for the corner of the house. A separate and most basic part of decorating the exterior walls of the house is the facade decor of the window.

Window decor

The main task in the decoration of a window opening is also the alignment of the general proportions of the building due to the decor. In more detail and expanded about design of window slopes you can see it on a separate page of our website. An interfloor dividing strip is also a very important part of the facade decor. With the help of this decor element, the issue of separating various materials for decorating the walls of the facade of the house is easily solved.

Home wall decor

Also, with the help of interfloor molding, we visually reduce the not always proportional height of the house. And the final one in the set of facade decoration for the walls of a private house is. This element is primarily a logical separator between the basement of the structure and the main wall. Also, the basement profile can perform technical functions - smoothing the difference between the protrusions of the wall and the basement, a drip, etc.

Below are a few examples of corner-to-house facade decor. You can see more ready-made options for the design of the entire facade of the house. HERE.

1. Example of House Facade Decor

In this example of the design of the facade of a country house, the roof cornice consists of two separate elements, forming a massive filling.

House corner decoration

The corners of the house are decorated with beveled rustic stones. The bushes on the corner do not fit together, but each is mounted on its own side.

Window, slope decor

The second floor windows are framed with 12 cm wide molding along the wall. The top of the window is supplemented with a profile with a corner trim, as well as a keystone. On the windows of the first floor, in addition to molding, a decorative window sill profile is applied.

Decorative separation

In this case, a double interfloor division of the facade is used. One strip runs along the line of the window sills of the second floor, and the other along the floor slab of the first and second floors. This technique helps to significantly underestimate the visual height of the building. Decorative frames from a thin facade profile are applied between the dividing strips.

2. Example of House Facade Decor

In this fragment of the architectural decoration of the facade of a private house, the under-roof space is also filled with a combination of two separate stucco elements. The height of the composition is greater than its overhang on the roof, which gives a strong effect that lowers the overall height of the house.

Facade moldings on windows

The second floor windows are framed by two separate moldings. Along the edge of the slope there is a flat profile, around it there is a symmetrical convex element. Brackets are embedded in the outer molding of the window, which support the massive top of the window. The profile of the top of the window is made with a bevel, which makes it possible not to cover it with additional metal. The windows on the first floor are complemented by a window sill profile and a shaped top with corner trim.

House corner decoration

The corners of the house are decorated with rusts of different sizes with bevels on four sides. The bushes are located a short distance from the corner.

Interfloor division

In this example, one strip goes along the line of the window sills of the second floor, and the other along the floor slab of the first and second floors. This technique helps to significantly underestimate the visual height of the building.

Finishing the basement of the house

The basement element is located with a thin part upwards to smooth out the difference in the thickness of the basement and the main wall.

Wall decoration materials

The main wall decoration is bark beetle or decorative plaster. The finishing coat of the walls is applied after the installation of decorative stucco molding. This helps to further insulate the joint of gluing the decor elements to the wall. The basement is decorated with marble or granite.

3. Example of House Facade Decor

Window framing

The windows of the second and first floors are decorated with a simple set of moldings and a window sill with the use of a keystone.

Finishing the corners of the house with foam

The corners of the house are decorated with rustic stones of different sizes, simple rectangular shapes without bevels. This type of rustication is usually assembled from molded products.

Interfloor division is made using two types of small-sized profiles located at a distance from each other. The gap between them is painted in the color of the decor, due to which we get a wide division on the facade.

Plinth trim

The basement element is located with a thin part upwards to smooth out the difference in the thickness of the basement and the main wall.

In this set of facade decor for a private house, the overhang of the roof is also decorated with a combination of two separate stucco elements. The section of the elements has a greater number of bends and steps compared to the previous version.

Decorative finishing of windows outside

The windows of the second and first floors are decorated with large moldings along the perimeter. The section of the molding has a pronounced, convex, rounded shape. The top of the window is mounted at a distance from the molding and is supported by decorative brackets.

Finishing the corners of the facade of the house

The corners of the house are decorated with pilasters of relatively small width along the facade. Each element is located a short distance from the corner of the house.

Separating, interfloor strip

In the interfloor division, two separate elements are used between which there is a strip of architectural ornament. The upper dividing strip runs along the bottom line of the second floor windows. The lower strip runs along the inter-floor slab.

Finishing the foundation of the house

The compositional design of the basement of the house can be attributed, in this case, and the strip running along the bottom line of the windows of the first floor. This option looks good in the presence of the so-called French windows - when the bottom of the windows is not high from the floor.

5. Example of House Facade Decor

This set of elements of architectural stucco molding can be described as more complex in geometry, completing with decorative elements. The techniques of bypassing additional thicknesses were applied to create more relief and volume.

Window decoration outside the house

The windows of the second floor are framed with a wide embossed molding 18 cm wide. Additional reliefs under the moldings imitating brackets are formed from the window sill profile by trimming under 45 degrees. The top of the window also has a complex relief due to cutting at an angle. The keystone is embedded in a part of the profile of the top of the window.

Grooves are made in the insulation, which are then reinforced with the help of corners together with the main wall. The basement is decorated with marble or granite.

6. Example of House Facade Decor

In this case, the main distinguishing feature of this composition is the massive, three-dimensional framing of the windows. The roof cornice is made of two separate elements. mounted at a distance from each other. The gap between the top. the main cornice and the smaller floor on the wall is painted in the color of the decor, which visually gives a single composition.

Outside window design

The windows on the first and second floors are finished with fine moldings along the perimeter. Moreover, a curly frame was created from it, into which the brackets are inscribed. On the first floor, a straight top of a window from a large profile has been added. In addition to it, there is an arched element on the second floor.

Decor of the corners of the house with foam plastic

The corners of the house are decorated with simple rectangular rusts of the same size. Such execution is usually carried out by the performers of the facade work on site or from a molded product.

Separating, interfloor strip

A voluminous, protruding dividing strip was launched between the floors. Its size and volume create an additional relief on the facade of the house.

Finishing the basement of the house

The basement element is located with a thin part upwards to smooth out the difference in the thickness of the basement and the main wall.
