Sheets with a low profile height are least suitable for roofing as they are not rigid enough. In order to withstand the load of snow in winter and the heaviness of a person's legs during the repair process, the profiled sheet for the roof must have an edge of at least 20 mm. Of course, if you are building a house in a southern country, where there is almost no snow, almost any type of corrugated board is suitable for you. Therefore, do not trust the spectacular photographs of houses with almost flat corrugated board - there is no snow in such parts, otherwise it would bend the roof in the first snowfall. And this is not for Russian latitudes anyway.

So, the higher the edges of the profiled sheet and the greater their number per meter, the stiffer the profile, and the more it can take on the additional load. The most reliable in this regard can be called professional flooring brands N-60, N-75, N-114 and Euro-profiles N-153, N-158.

Roof profile views

Let's look first of all with the marking of modern professional sheets:

  • H - bearing profiled sheet, which is used for its intended purpose for arranging flat roofs and ceilings.
  • C - wall. This is the thinnest and most fragile profiled sheet, which can only be used for walls, fences
  • HC is a universal profile that can be used to cover both pitched and flat roofs.

And the C20 profiled sheet is sold with almost any coating - from pural to granite, and almost any fashionable shade.

Easy to cut, easy to install on the roof and can even be reused. The minimum pitch of the lathing on the roof for such a covering is 0.4 m.

Due to the large margin of safety, such a roof covering is able to withstand a fairly strong deforming effect. This profiled sheet is so strong that in some conditions it is even used as a carrier.

The main advantage is, of course, the price.

Professional sheet C21: outbuildings and a garage

C21 profiled sheet is even more durable material than the previous analogue. This type of corrugated board is considered universal: it is suitable for roofs, walls and fences.

An excellent subspecies is the C20K profiled sheet, which has an additional groove for water drainage.

Professional sheet C35: for central regions

This professional sheet belongs to the category of roofing. All because of its special strength, which has a high level thanks to the trapezoidal ribs with a height of 35 mm. And the fact that the sheet is also carrying is indicated by the letter H in the marking. The polymer coating can also be of any kind.

Profiled sheet НС 35 is produced by the method of cold profiling. The uniqueness of this type of corrugated board is its economy, which is combined with excellent performance. Excellent resistance to weathering, mechanical strength and still relatively low weight. And what is most valuable, such a professional sheet is best suited for regions where there is little snow, but the winds are strong. Due to the low specific weight, it is no longer easy to tear off such a roof - not the same windage.

It is just as easy to cut and easy to install, and its strength allows it to be used on fairly flat roofs in regions with little snow. Under normal (non-extreme) conditions, it does not deform or sag. Main area of ​​application: pitched, flat and semicircular roofs.

Professional sheet NS 44: protection against hail

This brand of corrugated board in all its parameters is similar to HC35, only stronger. Excellent protection against hail, frost and intense heat. Like HC 35, it can be used where there are strong winds, but not a lot of snow.

Professional sheet NS 57: for snowy areas

Profile Н-107: maximum strength for a pitched roof

The H-107 profile is the most durable among traditional load-bearing corrugated sheets and is 100% suitable for arranging a simple pitched roof. The profile of this brand is high and trapezoidal. The sheet thickness ranges from 0.7 to 1.0 mm, which is already a lot, and the weight ranges from 10.2 to 14.5 kg per 1m 2.

Such a profile is, of course, the apogee of strength and endurance. Why not take one right away, even if you have the simplest pitched roof? But the price! This is just an unjustified investment. And, instead of overpaying for excess strength and durability, better invest these funds in purchasing a more suitable profile, but with a good, high-quality coating that will protect it from any hail.

Coverage selection

Modern roof sheeting is made of galvanized sheet, which is more budgetary, or of polymer-coated metal, which is more expensive, but more durable and more reliable.

The covering of the profiled sheet is also of great importance, especially when it comes to the roof. Indeed, in addition to the zinc layer, it is desirable for the roofing profiled sheet to be treated with additional painting, which also directly affects the individual qualities of the coating. Here is the classification:

  • Matt and glossy polyester, which gives the coating even greater strength and reliability, resistance to fading and cracking. It is a glossy polyester paint with a wide choice of colors and relatively cheap prices.
  • Polyurethane, which will protect the metal coating from frost.
  • Polyvinylidene fluoride.
  • Plastisol is polyvinyl chloride with plasticizers that are resistant to almost any mechanical, temperature and chemical attack, and also perfectly imitate the texture of wood and leather.
  • Zinc is cheap and cheerful, though not at all durable.
  • Aluzinc is a coating that includes 1.6% silicon and 55% aluminum. The result is excellent protection against scratches and paint tarnishing over time.
  • Matt Polyester - A combination of polyester with Teflon to create a more wear-resistant coating.
  • Pural is a polyurethane-polyamide paint with a pleasant matte-silky texture, which gives the corrugated board a lifespan of up to 50 years without fading and loss of other qualities.
  • PVDF is a polyvinyl difluoride acrylic paint that offers excellent protection against chemical and ultraviolet exposure, which is important for regions with serious environmental pollution.

To understand what exactly the sheet is covered with, special marking will help. For example:

  • The professional sheet marked "A" is covered with aluminum.
  • Steel sheets marked "AK" are coated with an aluminum-silicon coating.
  • Sheets marked "AC" have a less durable aluzinc coating, in which only 4% aluminum.
  • The "EOTsP" marking means that the sheet has been hot coated on both sides.

If for ordinary corrugated board there is no significant difference with what it is covered, then for roofing it is a key indicator, because such a corrugated board is constantly under the influence of the external environment. Therefore, choose a roof covering and based on which protective layer was used.

Quality selection

And now about how not to purchase a 5 mm thick profile and get 3.5 mm, which will corrode in the first year. What is the problem? In fakes!

When choosing a quality profile, pay attention to the following points:

  1. Sheet thickness. The thinnest products are of unambiguously dubious origin. Note that it is difficult to visually determine handicraft production, and even with a micrometer it will be possible to measure the thickness of the sheet together with the coating. So, for the roof, it is desirable that the thickness should be 1.15 mm, zinc should be from 140 grams per square meter. What to do? Contact only approved dealers or directly to the manufacturer.
  2. The quality of the raw materials used. So, for example, the Russian manufacturer Metalloprofil produces profiles from metal of different origins - Cherepovskiy, Novolipovskiy, Korusovskiy and others. All this feedstock has a different degree of zincating, but within the limits of GOST. And you can require a quality certificate. And from what the nameless profile, which the market is flooded with, is made of is a difficult question.
  3. The inner side of the sheet. There should be no streaks on it - only a uniform pure color throughout the entire mass of the leaf. Coverage is very important! You do not want the first hail to completely ruin the appearance of the roof?
  4. Package. If the sheets are simply folded on a regular block and wrapped by hand with film, this is not quality. When you bring (or they will bring you) such building material, you will find not sickly scratches due to improper protection, and in the end you will reject at least a sheet from each package.
  5. Meeting the required criteria. We have already told you how to choose a specific profile for your needs - and this is what you should be guided by. And in any case, do not trust unscrupulous sellers who will try to convince you to take a worse profile (after all, your neighbors supposedly bought the same one, and nothing). The wrong choice is also a bad profile!
