Dining room in the English style. Kitchens in the English style. Dominant style traits

The English style is often called classic. This is a kind of restraint and aristocracy in design. Your interior style will not be truly English if you do not take into account the following aspects.

Main features

The English design style has evolved over the centuries, encompassing several cultures and styles. He absorbed the best of rococo, colonial exotic, antiquity, gothic, eventually becoming a symbiosis of the Victorian and Georgian styles as we know them today.

The versatility of the style has both positive and negative sides: the line is thin when an intelligent, sophisticated design in some houses turns into what the British themselves call "anti-design" when it comes to national decor. So what are the main touches of this most intelligent, stately style?

Unlike most other decorating styles, England's style includes:

  • many different colors;
  • textures;
  • decorative patterns;
  • contains comfortable;
  • simple design concepts.

Such an interior will allow you to achieve a cozy, hospitable, pleasant overall look in almost any home.

It can be used to create a casual or formal home interior, depending on the needs of the owner, but the result will not affect its functionality and sophistication. The furnishings in a classic English style bring a relaxed atmosphere.

Its main features are:

The porcelain tea set and silver accessories will be the jewelry that will define the British way of life. Fresh flowers are another accent with the beauty of English fields and gardens in your interior.

Advice

Also use images of exotic plants and flowers, tropical plants in pots for these purposes.

Furniture

Bookcases, built-in shelves are a must-have in a living room if you don't have a separate library. Together with wooden furniture, the book storage will emphasize the aristocratic atmosphere.

Furniture in the English style has the following recognizable features:

  • chair with "ears": a wide seat, low armrests, a high back with inverted protrusions into the armrests (the so-called "ears" or "wings");
  • Chippendale Chairs: 1750s-1780s interior decoration style with gorgeous carved wood details for beautiful, expensive and modern vintage-style spaces. Chippendale's designs are influenced by Chinese, Gothic, Georgian styles. Rococo added open carved backs to it;
  • Chesterfield sofa with characteristic coach-style upholstery;
  • armchairs in the English style (wide, with high backs);
  • a low wide sofa with low carved legs, curved armrests.

Storage furniture, dressers, console tables should be made exclusively of wood, preferably red, dark varieties, with a view to the ages. It is better to take second-hand furniture with scuffs and traces of use "from hands", even dilapidated ones. But any fakes made of plastic chipboard or plywood are strictly excluded.

Decorate your fireplace with candles, family china, and silver items. Place a table clock with carvings or inlaid decorations in the focal area.

Fabrics

Exquisite fabrics define the interior decoration, as they are voluminous, there are many of them. For draping windows, a dense textured fabric with lambrequins is used. Cords, tassels, fringe on curtains, floral ornaments, embroidered pillows will add discreet charm to your home. To pay attention choice of color and texture. Natural color schemes bring soft comfort even to a formal home project.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is the main way to decorate walls.

Advice

Use a mix of floral patterns and horizontal stripes on the walls to achieve a distinctive British character. Traditional wall decorations also include portraits and still life paintings. The main condition for wall decor is strict observance of symmetry.

Bedroom in English country

Natural fabrics in pleasant pastel colors, white linen curtains, tablecloths, compositions of fresh flowers, functional home decorations are typical of typical Victorian country houses - the embodiment of English traditions.

Advice

Choose colors associated with nature, furniture made of solid dark wood, upholstery in light colors for the room.

The spectrum is well suited from light blue, green to creamy white, pink, soft yellow, cream tones. Floral patterns and motifs serve as key decorative patterns here. At least three or four different colors and combinations can be used to create an interesting, beautiful classic English style.

Embroidery, beads, quilts, tapestries, handmade decor accessories combined with antique furniture are a way to improve the decor of the bedroom, highlight the natural beauty. The main trend of jewelry is to reflect love for nature, emphasize comfort and grace.

Colonial British style

The British style comes in several varieties. If country is more appropriate for bedrooms, then colonial entourage is also suitable for a corridor, living room or hall.

The British colonial style can be traced back to the late 19th century, when the British Empire was actively colonizing the New World. The colonists ordered furniture from local craftsmen according to their designs. The furniture was made from local hardwood materials - dark or red.

Artisans added their own motifs, such as pineapple and palm tree designs. All this has formed a special style, consisting of a fusion of British, Asian, African and Indian flavors. In interior design, it is called colonial.

It is characterized by high ceilings, tropical motifs and light colors that have been chosen to create a cool and airy atmosphere in hot climates. Botany was popular in Victorian England, which also absorbed colonial decor.

Adapting British colonial style to your home

Advice

Paint the walls with a light paint, perhaps cream or light yellow, and find dark furniture for the hallway or room you are decorating. You will also need a lot of lightweight fabrics, including linen and cotton for your drapery. Add carpets to wood floors and use lots of candles in the evening to create ambiance.

For the finishing touches, choose old travel relics like old maps and leather suitcases with tags and stamps. If you cannot afford to buy antiques, or have not found something authentic, you can take artificially aged items. For example, Ikea once sold a decorative pillow with a pattern in the form of an old card.

English style doors

If the colonial theme can be traced throughout the house, then the right front door is a prerequisite for design. Most colonialists lived in bungalows, so the porch or veranda became a key feature of their home.

What do interior doors look like?

The main features of interior doors are symmetrical shapes and decorative molding, but there are a number of additional characteristics that will help to correctly design the design. Here they are:

In short, doors can give a room that touch that will become the main feature of the entire design.

Kitchen

Only natural materials of high quality can be used in the kitchen:

The Georgian era introduced modest soft interiors with antique grandeur, symmetry, strict lines and shapes. The Victorian period is less strict. The palette and decor are richer, and the cabinets are more elegant.

British cuisines are multifaceted, they have absorbed both the centuries-old British traditions and the cultural heritage of their colonies. But, despite this eclecticism, the mentioned approach to design cannot be imagined without classical elegance, symmetry, moderation, purity of line and form. Any flashy and bright idea is taboo.

Kitchen cabinets

Although colors vary, only muted tones will be acceptable. I must say no to excessive brightness and contrast. Another option is pastel shades and deep tones of green, dark red and mustard. The main patterns are stripes, plaid, floral and heraldic motifs... Designers highlight the abundance of richly textured fabrics.

Two ideas for kitchens

There are two types of British cuisines - classic and rustic. The classic is strict, laconic and refined.

British country country kitchens are cozy, home-like, less systematic. But at the same time, he is still solid, reliable and respectable.

Layout

The interior of the kitchen is based on the principles of symmetry and functional zoning. The center of the room is usually occupied by a large table, round or oval. It can be used for cooking (especially if you place a hanging shelf above it). The rest of the furniture, stove, oven or other appropriate unit is built into the walls.

Of course, there must be plenty of room to implement this design idea. And it is almost impossible to create a true British interior in a small room. The only way out is to combine two rooms, making a kitchen-dining room or a kitchen-living room, but consider your layout before that.

Situation

A stainless steel sink is simply unacceptable. You should opt for massive faux stone or ceramic sinks. As for the price, English-style wardrobes are traditionally classified as premium.

Appliances

The use of anything modern is unacceptable, all innovative devices of this century must be placed so as not to be conspicuous.

Here are the notable features of the English style in the interior:

  • using only natural materials - wood, stone, ceramics;
  • aged furniture, patinated headsets and other elements;
  • the presence of a large dining area (kitchen-dining room) and quite often "islands";
  • rich natural and artificial lighting;
  • the use of accessories made of copper and bronze, hand-carved furniture, glass inserts;
  • decoration of shelves with porcelain plates, dishes, pots.

Now let's take a closer look at each of the aspects of English-style kitchen design.

What color?

In the vast majority of cases, kitchen sets are ordered in light colors. Milky white, light olive, blue, light gray, sand, beige, and other colors are great. We also recommend taking a closer look at the so-called "duck egg" color.

The ceiling is almost always painted white, even if it has vaulted beams or other structural elements.

The walls, as a rule, are painted, less often wallpaper is glued. Pastel colors that slightly contrast or, more simply, complement the color of the headset sections, are considered good form when decorating English cuisine.

For example, walls painted in light tones of blue, gray, beige or coffee look good with white facades. Walls of light yellow or sand tones are beautifully combined with olive trees, and with gray the best option is white.

Gender - there are many options. If this is an apartment, then it is worth stopping at a tile with a simple geometric pattern in light colors or a light waterproof laminate. In the house, it will be more appropriate to lay a board or high-quality laminate in the color of dark wood.

For your convenience, we have posted a number of photos of examples of kitchen design in the English style.

Once again about furniture

First of all, it should look high quality and respectable. This applies to both design and execution. And, of course, all furniture should be practical and comfortable. To the color recommendations that we indicated above, I would like to add a few more important nuances:

  • if there is no way to make a headset out of wood, then you can limit yourself to MDF;
  • it is advisable to order facades with panels, and, if desired, with glass or stained glass inserts;
  • fittings are recommended forged, simple shapes with elements from ceramics, porcelain, but in any case not plastic;
  • there must be open shelves on which you can put beautiful dishes;
  • it is not uncommon to find decoration of kitchen sections with cornices and rather artsy fittings.

They are selected based on the general concept of the kitchen, but options made of wood, with forged elements, carving or weaving are best suited. The dining area, if space permits, should be large and spacious.

Work zone

Here the role of the first violin is played by a trio: hob, oven and extractor hood. In the English style of kitchen design, you can use household appliances of both modern design and more classic or "antique".

The apron is laid out with tiles or stone, decorated with hooks or rails for dishes, appliances and textiles.

Traditional countertops in this style are stone or solid wood countertops and large ceramic or acrylic sinks.

Textiles and accessories

The most suitable material would be cotton and linen. Here you can use either light pastel colors, or vice versa - bright and rich colors to add a little flavor to your kitchen. The patterns are very diverse: a cage, a strip, flowers.

In English cuisine, you can often see pots and pans made of copper, antique coffee grinders, enamel jugs and cans. A variety of ceramic vessels for storing cereals and spices, bunches of vegetables, preservation with plates and decorative lids will look authentic.

The room should be well lit, but not too bright lamps and by no means cold tones. A beautiful bronze chandelier with muddy shades, elegant sconces and light illumination of the dining area will be an excellent choice.

You can use a number of other elements as well, which you think would be appropriate. Photos can help you with this, in which you can see examples of the combination of different accessories, as well as their placement.

In conclusion, we say that an English-style kitchen can be implemented both in an urban setting and in a country house. British flavor and traditions that formed the basis of the eponymous design will not leave indifferent connoisseurs of European interior design culture. Is this style suitable for our apartments? Yes, it is quite. Many models of domestic serial kitchens, in fact, are made in a very similar manner and are sold throughout the country. Therefore, do not worry and feel free to look closely at such interiors.

The kitchens, decorated in the English style, embody the aristocracy and self-sufficiency of the owners. In such rooms there is no excess of details and flashy colors, therefore the style is chosen by respectable people, connoisseurs of coziness and comfort.

  • Severity, clarity of forms.
  • Symmetry.
  • Large sizes of furniture and appliances.
  • Large table in the center of the room.
  • Natural materials.
  • Copper and gilded accessories, fresh flowers.
  • Warm, muted palette, complemented by gilding.
  • Conservatism, adherence to traditions.
  • Modern home appliances hidden behind the cabinet fronts.
  • Lack of extravagance, catchiness, brightness.
  • Porcelain or silverware.
  • Ceramic sink.
  • Stone or wood countertops.

Choice of colors

The style palette is based on warm, muted shades, which are often complemented by gilding. The favorites among the colors are brown-red, deep green, mustard,. Blue, white, milky, mahogany can be used. Even with a lack of natural light, this scale will create the necessary expressiveness and brightness.

Finishing materials

Finishing helps to create the right background for an aristocratic kitchen; it must be done carefully. The material that should be used in excess is wood, it is used for skirting boards, cornices, wall panels and so on. The wood in the finish can be combined with wallpaper or tiles.

Wall decoration

The walls of the English kitchen do not bear the usual stamp of practicality for us. Painting for decoration is used relatively rarely, and only the working surface area is faced with tiles or stone. The most common example of wall decoration is wallpaper and wood wall panels.

Pay attention to canvases with floral motifs, tartan plaid, vertical stripes and symmetrically arranged patterns. If you prefer wall panels, then let them be painted in pastel, light shades of mignonette or honey, soft blue will do. Panels decorated with carving, stucco molding, gilding will fit optimally into the English kitchen.

If the room does not have sufficiently large dimensions, then the walls will be almost completely filled with furniture. This means that you can save a little and just paint the walls with paint in a warm, autumn color. Do not forget to take time to design the apron area, as attention will be focused on it.

Floor finishing

  • Wood. A floor made of natural wood, such as oak, will perfectly fit into an aristocratic kitchen. Wooden boards will add authenticity to the interior, and solid laminate will add a touch of restraint. It is permissible to use wood-like laminate, but not desirable.
  • Tile. Both plain tiles and contrasting ones laid out in a checkerboard pattern will do. If you want to highlight the floor, look at the black and white tiles, and in the case when bright contrast is not for you, the chocolate and beige range will do.
  • Carpets. In English kitchens, carpets have firmly established their position, they give the room a cosiness.

Ceiling decoration

  • Coloring. The nature of the finish determines the size of the room. If you want to recreate the atmosphere of an English mansion in a standard, small apartment, then simply paint the ceiling with white paint.
  • Suspended ceiling. If the ceiling height allows, then you can choose a more interesting, non-standard solution. A multi-level ceiling with a spectacular decor will be the highlight of the heart of the house.

Lighting

Central lighting is characteristic of the English style, so the kitchen must be equipped with a central or main lamp. Additional illuminators are used near the dining room and work area, as well as near the stove. The design of the luminaires should correspond to the style of the furniture, and the dimensions should correspond to the dimensions of the room. Spot lighting on the ceiling is strictly prohibited. A massive Victorian-style chandelier, equipped with numerous lamps, will be a source of comfort.

Furniture

Massive wooden furniture painted in milky or cream colors will help to recreate the style. Lacquered dark wood furniture is ideal. Such products will harmoniously fit into the warm range of wall decoration. with many drawers and open shelves - a frequent attribute of style. A wooden hinged stand, on which the dishes are placed, is an important part of a truly English kitchen, combining functional and decorative purpose.

Headset

The headsets combine rigor and elegant simplicity, their shape is correct and geometric. Cabinets are made of pine, oak, mahogany, models can be artificially aged or have a classic appearance. The color scheme of the facades includes a natural wood shade or blue, cream, milky, gray, mustard, green. Overly bright or dark colors should be avoided. A characteristic detail of the fittings is the pewter handles, polished to a bright shine. Worktop countertops are made of wood, stone. For the design of the apron, natural stone or tiles are used.

Table and chairs

The large dining table is the centerpiece of the spacious kitchen. A table that has gone through the process of artificial aging will give a special flavor to the room. Chairs in this case should be massive, decorated with carvings. This is far from the only option for choosing a dining group. Round tables with carved legs, complete with high chairs with chintz upholstery, are suitable. A modern transforming table with wicker chairs will be a good solution for a small kitchen. Austere, straightforward table models are ideally combined with low chairs.

Appliances

English cuisine should be comfortable, first of all, for the hostess, so the most modern household appliances are chosen. The stove is necessarily large, with several ovens. In order not to violate the style of the interior, the technique must be hidden behind the facades of the cabinets.

Decor

Decorative elements are an integral part of the English style. Numerous coasters and shelves accommodate a wide variety of useful little things. Fresh cut flowers and potted plants are a favorite part of the English interior. Geraniums of different colors are often placed on the windowsill; this plant will revive a strict environment.

Soviet kitchen design is not attractive. It is devoid of practicality and attractiveness. Therefore, when renovating or finishing a room, preference is given to European styles. One of them is English. The article discusses examples of interiors and design features.

Features of the English style

Strict and moderate - these epithets characterize the Englishman, which is reflected in the design style. Straight lines prevail in the kitchen. Symmetry is visible in the decoration - a sign of the classic style inherent in the aristocracy. Accents are set with color, but there are no bright shades. There are no flashy details, as is typical for high-tech. Kitchen furniture is made of wood. Natural materials are used in floor, ceiling and wall finishes.

Preference is for rare and expensive wood species. She emphasizes status and tells the visitor about the position of the owner. In the interior, the British do not like contrasts and contrasts, so the finishing elements are combined and complement each other. Floral or check patterns are common for textiles and wallpapers. The furnishings in an English kitchen may not change over the course of the owner's life, so the furnishings are comfortable and durable.

Color spectrum

Dark colors look solid, so dark brown prevails in the decoration of the kitchen in the English style. This is the color of wood, varnished or untreated. It fades into terracotta. The latter is closer to orange and is inherent in textiles or decoration. For light surfaces, ocher is used. Floor coverings and furniture are finished with dark green paint or lacquer with a golden sheen.

Light beige dilutes the gloom of dark tones in the kitchen. It is combined with chocolate and sand color inserts. If the kitchen faces the side where most of the day the sun illuminates the room, then cold green and blue predominate in the decoration. Gray adjoins them. For the north and east sides, warm shades of beige and yellow are selected. Light interiors are not alien to the English style in the kitchen, but they are not so practical. The finishing uses shades of white and gray. The wooden parts of the furniture are left painted in dark colors.

Materials for finishing in the English style

An interior in the English style for the kitchen, implemented according to the rules, is a costly business, since natural materials are expensive.

Walls

Since the British love practicality, the walls in the kitchen are painted. Surfaces are refreshed as needed. Dirt or stains are washed off painted walls at no cost.

Wallpaper is used less often. For the kitchen in the English style, a canvas with a floral pattern or stripes is purchased, an example can be seen in the photo. The dining area is decorated with wallpaper so that greasy stains do not remain during cooking. Washable canvases will last five times longer than paper canvases.

Accents are placed on the walls. This is done by patching the wallpaper, as seen in the photo above. The site is framed with a plinth to match the wallpaper or two tones lighter than the painted surface.

For wallpaper in the kitchen, the color is selected lighter than when painting.

Part of the wall is reserved for photo wallpaper. The image is not full of colors, but painted in black and white tones or sepia. The dining area stands out with such an insert. Textured plaster is not applied to the walls in the kitchen, the surface is smooth without flaws.

It is used in the kitchen in the English style, the combination of tones within the range. The photo shows that the bottom of the wall is painted in a dark shade of beige, and the area under the ceiling is lighter.

Apron for the kitchen in the English style

An apron is a section of a wall near the work area that gets dirty during cooking. For ease of cleaning, it is tiled, as seen in the photo above. It can be painted. The color of the ornament is in harmony with one of the prevailing colors in the kitchen.

A composite pattern on the backsplash tile accentuates the work area. It is laid out in mosaics as shown above, or formed from tiles. The pattern is not messy and does not occupy the entire area. Part of it can go along the furniture, but not throughout the kitchen.

The apron is highlighted by a plain tile. Its color can be in tune with the interior. Another option is opposition, but not contrast. For this, the color of the tile is an order of magnitude different from the main one. Dark joining is done under a light apron and vice versa.

A section of the wall above the working area is selected a repeating pattern that does not occupy the entire plane, as can be seen in the photo above.

Floor

Wood is a natural material, but laying it on the kitchen floor is impractical. It will require frequent maintenance due to the ingress of liquids or fats, these are significant costs. It is cheaper to use imitation wood. The group of materials includes a laminate or polymer board.

The English style gets along with the tiles. Matt porcelain stoneware or imitation marble flooring is laid on the floor.

The tone of the floor is matched to the color of the furniture or walls. Decorative inserts or patterns expand the range of colors in the kitchen.

If the walls and furniture in the kitchen are of different colors, but monochromatic, then the owner is free to choose the tiles. The photo above shows that it is in harmony with the interior, but the same tone is not.

Imitation tiles are a combination of practicality and taste. The material is purchased, the length of which is five or more times the width.

Ceiling

The ceiling in the English kitchen is light. It compensates for the dark tones of woods and finishes. Like the walls, it is made even and painted. To complete the picture, stucco molding is installed without fanciful patterns, as can be seen from the photo.

White lining made of wood - a finishing option for the ceiling. The slats are guided to expand the room, parallel to the shorter wall. There should be no threads or patterns on the lining.

In the English style, ceilings are used in two or three levels. Stretch is not suitable because of the glossy surface. Plasterboard modules are installed. The photo shows that the center of the ceiling is decorated with images.

You can highlight the center by lightening the tone of the finish and changing the shape of the ceiling.

The interior is typical of the countryside of England with beams on the ceiling. In a wooden house, the beams are sanded and varnished or oiled. On the concrete ceiling, an imitation of plasterboard or wooden boxes is being constructed.

The photo shows an example of what artificial beams look like. They are backlit so that the ceiling does not appear low.

The dark ceiling in the English kitchen is combined with the color of the floor finish. It is worth choosing it only for combination with light furniture and walls.

English style kitchen lighting

For rooms in the English style, twilight is characteristic, but this rule does not apply to the kitchen. Staying attentive while cooking is difficult in poor lighting conditions.

One or two chandeliers are hung over the dining area. The amount depends on the size of the table. The lighting fixtures are crystal or combined with metal, as in the photo above.

Chandeliers with a lampshade diffuse the light, making it softer. This is important for the kitchen in the English style, since light is not allowed.

When using LED bulbs, the glow color is selected similar to incandescent bulbs. On the packaging, they are indicated by the index 2800 K.

Spotlights are installed with pendant chandeliers. This is done for plasterboard ceilings. Dots are placed around the perimeter of the kitchen to evenly illuminate the area.

English-style wall lamps are present in rooms, but not in the kitchen. They collect fumes and dust on themselves, requiring cleaning. The working area is located near the window for natural light.

For comfort in the evening, an LED strip is glued above the tabletop to furniture or into a niche. Illumination of cabinets with transparent facades gives them lightness and volume.

Furniture for the kitchen in the English style

Furniture assembled from chipboard or MDF gives out the shape of the facades and the texture that is applied to the lamination. Therefore, to create a mood, not just the look of English cuisine, wooden furniture is installed.

The table top for the working and dining area is made of stone, which complements the massif.

The islet, which the hostesses like because of its location, migrated to American culture from England. If there is enough space, then an area is allocated for it. It is used for cooking or lunchtime snacks.

The chairs are designed to match the kitchenette. Stools are not used in English cuisine. Anatomically shaped soft semi-chairs incline towards a relaxing atmosphere.

The dining area is taken out into the living room or placed in the kitchen. It is not customary to save on furniture, since it is inherited by children and grandchildren.

Curtains for the kitchen in the English style

The photo shows the curtains in English format. Thick textiles are attached to the curtain and decorated with draperies. This is done to imitate a lush bow, which was an integral part of the decoration.

Classic double draped. If the curtains are lowered, covering the windows, then the length of the fabric is sufficient to maintain the folds. The canvas does not fall below the windowsill.

Fringe and bows are used to decorate the spacious kitchens. The curtains are lowered by half, as the design was created for the tall and narrow windows of mansions and palaces.

For kitchens of a small area, the curtains are sewn from a light fabric that allows light to pass through. The large illumination visually enlarges the kitchen. When folded, the curtains do not fall to the middle.

Utensils and decor for the kitchen in the English style

The dishes in the kitchen are hard to miss. It is placed on open shelves or behind glazed facades. Sets are a significant expense item, as they are made from English porcelain.

English-style serving is an art that requires a fixture for every dish. Dinner sets are silver or gilded.

Porcelain is not exhibited for the holidays, but at the daily meal.

The room is decorated with freshly cut flowers in spring and summer, and in winter a flowerpot with a green plant is placed on the windowsills and next to the work area.

Textiles for upholstered furniture are part of the decor. The drawing on it is monochromatic, in a box or in a rhombus. A volumetric floral ornament is applied to the fabric.

English style kitchen accessories

In the kitchen, pictures or portraits of relatives, beloved by the owners, are hung up. They are black and white or colored and are framed in wood. The latter is matched to the color of the kitchen set or table with chairs.

Candlesticks are placed on dining tables. They decorate the interior and are lit up at family dinners.

The spacious kitchen has a place for a fireplace or its imitation. In a classic interior, a mirror is placed above it. A modern one has a TV set.

Wooden coffee grinders are placed on the shelves as decorations. Containers find practical application. Under the white furniture, they are lightened with paint to match the interior.

Vases and pots that are not used in everyday life are placed on top of cabinets or hung on hooks by the handles. In the classic version of the interior, antique bronze plumbing is installed.

Small kitchen in English style

It is possible to implement an English interior in a small kitchen, but the details are thought out during the design. The color of decoration and furniture is selected. Dark absorbs light, so the room is visually reduced, so the walls and kitchen corner are painted in light shades of beige. A combined lighting from LED strip is installed in the niches of the ceiling, above the working area and from a classic chandelier.

The small kitchen is kept tidy. Dishes and cutlery left on the table reduce the visible space. Open shelves in the kitchen are visually easier.

A work surface is installed along the walls, as can be seen in the photo. The angular shape increases the usable area. Appliances are built into the headset, which saves space. Light or white textiles. It will have to be washed more often, but this is a necessary sacrifice for the sake of design.

If it is impossible to place the kitchen set, the working surface is performed by the dining table. Two or three chairs are replaced by a bench, which takes up less space than the seats, as seen in the photo. Ideas for kitchen design can be found in the video below.

The English style in interior design can be described as comfortable, concise and fundamental. To create such a design, it is necessary to carefully select materials, furniture and accessories.

In this article, you will learn how to design and decorate a traditional English kitchen in a practical and comfortable environment.

Dominant style traits

To distinguish English design from other directions, its characteristic features will help:

  • the indispensable presence of symmetrical, verified configurations and clear forms. It is unacceptable to use overly catchy and colorful elements;
  • use of materials of natural origin in the design. This finish is typical, in addition to surfaces, also for furniture. This style does not tolerate imitation;
  • numerous wood surfaces: furniture, wall decoration, door leaves, panels, flooring. To decorate the kitchen, you should choose elite wood species;
  • a varied palette of colors, but it should be noted that it is advisable to avoid contrasting combinations in such interiors. Shades should not stand out too much: give preference to calm tones.
  • When decorating a kitchen room in the English style, a variety of ornaments are often used: checkered, striped prints, plant motifs. Patterns on wallpaper, curtains, napkins and furnishings are welcome.

    If you are still in doubt whether it is worth decorating the kitchen in an elegant English style, study the photos of the finished interiors to make sure they are graceful and presentable.

    In the English style, there are two key branches: classic and country.

    In the first, restraint, sophistication and severity prevail.

    The second is characterized by good quality, solidity and comfort.

    Layout

    Arranging a kitchen in the English style implies dividing a room into zones that differ in functionality. As a rule, a massive dining table is located in the center of the kitchen. The rest of the furniture is placed along the walls.

    This distribution of space is a characteristic feature of English interiors.

    It becomes clear that the situation with such an arrangement of key interior components requires space, therefore, it is unlikely that it will be possible to recreate the general English design in the small kitchen of a Khrushchev apartment.

    Color palette

    In the interior of a kitchen with an English decor, you need to use muted shades. Let's dwell on the color palette in more detail in order to avoid design mistakes that can ruin the whole impression of the interior.

    Important! Avoid radical contrasting shades and overly variegated color spots. Remember: muted tones should dominate.

    This style promotes naturalness, therefore, the color scheme should be extremely natural.

    Let's list the most successful shades typical for the English interior:

    • olive;
    • light gray;
    • blue;
    • Brown.

    Gilding will help to add luxury to the atmosphere.

    Furniture

    When choosing pieces of furniture for the kitchen interior, designed in the English style, you should take into account a number of features and observe some principles in the design:

    How to decorate the floor, walls and ceiling

    The decor of surfaces has a great influence on the visual perception of the appearance of the interior, therefore, the choice of finishing materials must be approached carefully.

    The floor in the kitchen with an English design is most often laid out with stone tiles of a snow-white shade. Many housewives consider such a coating to be soiled, but it looks just amazing. White surfaces need regular cleaning, but the presentable finish is well worth the effort.

    To recreate the English style in the interior of the kitchen, you need to use high-quality expensive materials. Do not try to replace analogs with fakes, otherwise you will not be able to create a unique decor that came to us from good old England.

    If you think tiles are too cold material, there is another solution - a plank wood floor. A parquet board with a geometric pattern looks great in such interiors.

    Another good solution is stone flooring in a calm light shade.

    Attention! When choosing a material for finishing the floor, be guided by one of the main rules: the decor should be extremely natural.

    Having decided on the option of flooring, start decorating the walls.

    Walls can be decorated in different ways, for example, by gluing dim wallpaper. Painting the walls in muted shades is also a good idea.

    The ceiling can be easily transformed with wooden beams or caissons. For those who want to save money on finishing, we recommend painting in a light color.

    To recreate the English style in the kitchen interior, it is recommended to use more wood. You need to choose high-quality wood, give preference to elite species.

    Advice. Furnish the kitchen with solid oak furniture, use beech and walnut in the decoration.

    Appliances

    Modern household appliances are convenient and make life easier, and facilitate the quick completion of household chores. That is why the presence of kitchen assistants is so important for housewives, but the technique still needs to be organically integrated into the interior concept.

    Some people buy different-colored items, and then they are surprised at the disharmony in the interior. Do not make such mistakes, think over every detail.

    But in any case, do not give up modern household appliances in order to maintain the style. Decorate so that the equipment is hidden.
