Electric 220 do-it-yourself heat-guns. DIY diesel and electric heat gun. Video: homemade gas heat gun

A do-it-yourself heat gun is made very quickly. It is only necessary to prepare various materials in advance, choose an acceptable type of heating device, and what it will work on: electricity, gas or various types of fuel.

The difference between guns depends on the type of fuel on which these heaters operate or on the method of heating the air stream. Hence the name:

  • electric gun;
  • diesel;
  • gas;
  • infrared type of heating elements;
  • water;
  • monofuel.

First of all, we are interested in how to make a heat gun that works from the network because it is the most common and safest option. Easy maintenance, no need to check the presence of fuel in the tank, environmental friendliness.

Functional features

When you do not have the material opportunity to purchase a factory-made patented apparatus, then a homemade heat gun is the only way to fulfill your planned repair or construction plan.

The principle of operation of such a unit is simple: heating elements are installed in a pipe made of asbestos or some metal, or a spiral is placed in a special way. On one side, a powerful fan is inserted, which blows air into the pipe, where it heats up and is discharged into the room through the opposite hole.

Such electrical devices really quickly heat up rooms of various sizes. It all depends on power of heating elements: The more powerful, the faster the optimum temperature is created. There is only one negative point - high energy consumption and rapid air drying. When used in a residential area, an open container of water should be placed next to it to humidify the air.

A do-it-yourself heat gun is often made by garage craftsmen to heat these rooms in the winter.

Electric cannon

Before proceeding with the manufacture, a detailed electrical diagram of the device is made, all the components are assembled.

To make a DIY heat gun, you will need the following materials:

  1. Asbestos-zinc pipe large diameter for the fan to enter. Some people prefer to make a case of galvanized metal with a thickness of at least 1 m, and the whole home-made device is more mobile.
  2. Electric motor and an impeller for assembling a fan - can be purchased in stores or assembled from scrap material, for example, use an old fan and motor from a vacuum cleaner.
  3. Heating elements can be made from a special wire by winding it over the electrode. You will get a spiral, like for an electric stove, only you need to make preliminary calculations, otherwise such a gun can cut out the light in the entire area.
  4. Buy or pick up ceramic insulators, copper wire with a cross section of at least 2 mm, 24 A fuses, a connection wire with a plug and other trifles.

Only after that we begin to assemble the electrical part according to the diagram drawn up earlier. An electric heat gun is assembled as follows:

  • we prepare the body and support with an insulating lining;
  • we stretch the spiral in the form of a star and fix it inside the body, or install the heating elements in the center of the pipe;
  • we connect the power wires to the terminals;
  • we fix the fan, bring in the wiring;
  • we install protective grilles on both sides of the case;
  • we mount the control unit and connect all the wiring to it;
  • we install the wire connecting the device to the network.

All connections of the electrical circuit when assembling the heat gun carefully isolate- everything is done by hand, so we pay special attention to the little things. After the completion of the work, we make a test run: the system is working normally, which means that the product can be used without fear.

Attention! Particular attention should be paid to safety during assembly: the metal body of the pipe must be protected by an asbestos lining on the base to prevent a fire, and all wiring is carefully insulated.

Diesel heat generator

Sometimes, not only in order to save money, but when there are no sources of electric current nearby, a diesel gun comes to the aid in heating the premises. Its principle of operation is fundamentally different from its electrical counterparts, however, the design is also. Before you start manufacturing, you need to get a drawing, carefully study it, and then collect all the details. The simplest diesel heat gun of indirect heating has the following main parts:

  1. Cylindrical body made of durable metal.
  2. Tank with fuel, transfer pump and filter element.
  3. The combustion chamber made of thick metal with one or more nozzles for spraying diesel fuel.
  4. Air blower.
  5. Chimney pipe for the removal of combustion products.

The diesel heat gun is assembled from the installation inside the main fan body, then the combustion chamber is inserted and centered. Connect the fuel piping system from the tank and transfer pump to the nozzle. The fuel tank in the entire structure is located at the lowest part, it does not have direct contact with the pipe body for fire safety reasons.

It is necessary to take a container for a diesel heat gun, factory-made, despite the fact that you assemble everything with your own hands - this is a guarantee of safety.

The pump is fixed nearby and fine filter... The pump is connected to the nozzle by means of a copper tube. A factory-made piezoelectric element is placed inside the combustion chamber to ignite the atomized fuel. A branch pipe is made in the upper part of the chamber, through which all combustion products are removed into the atmosphere. On both sides of the case are installed protective grilles to prevent inadvertent contact with the hot end part of the combustion chamber and to protect people from the running fan.

Making a diesel installation yourself is not such an easy task as it seems at first glance. If you do not have sufficient knowledge, then it is better to buy the factory version - the guarantor of fire safety.

Oil cannon

Some garage craftsmen make devices using waste oil with their own hands, but why reinvent the wheel when there are factory settings that are approved for use in any premises. They work on any hydraulic or motor a waste product that can be purchased inexpensively.

A waste oil heat gun made by a garage craftsman will be much cheaper, but what about safety? Who will answer if something happens to the installation operating on oil mining? In the factory version, all combustion products are discharged outside through the pipe, and in a home-made unit, oil often burns in a dirty cup from a blowtorch directed at it. The factory version has an efficiency of 100% and the combustion of oil does not violate the ecology of the room, which cannot be said about handicraft production.

Its principle of operation is identical to the diesel version, and the gas heat gun is assembled in the same way, but instead of diesel fuel, gas is supplied. It is distinguished by a high degree of fire hazard, because there is an open fire inside the body. Such devices can be purchased at appropriate retail outlets at a price of 5.1 thousand rubles. - they are checked by the fire inspection, there is a certificate that allows them to be used in various premises.

The unit made in a handicraft way inspires little reliability, it makes noise and smokes in different modes, and open fire inside an unsealed pipe does not add safety. In addition, burners, often made in China, are not guaranteed.

To repair the factory version, you just need to contact the service center, where specially trained technicians will solve all your problems. In the event of a breakdown of the main parts, it will be much more difficult to reanimate the handicraft apparatus, if at all possible. His work can be judged by the video.

Homemade gas cannons are powerful, highly dangerous devices with no overheating protection and no flame control. They must not be left unattended for a minute.

Many users believe that assembling, let alone repairing a heat gun with their own hands, is not so difficult. This is not so - without special knowledge and technical skills, you will make an artisanal semblance of a heat generator. Remember that the electric gun you made is the source electrical injuries, short circuits, if a simple mistake was made inadvertently during assembly. Other species, especially those with open flames, are sources of imminent fire.

The need to quickly heat up a large or small room is not so rare. Sometimes you need to heat a garage, dry a cement wall, warm up a cellar, a shed, a garden house, a summer cottage, etc. In this case, a do-it-yourself heat gun can be the best solution. It is not so difficult to make such a device, while you can choose the appropriate type of fuel: electricity, diesel fuel, liquefied gas in cylinders, etc.

It is difficult to name a more convenient and simple device for space heating than a heat gun. It is a powerful heating element and a fan enclosed in one housing. Such a device heats up the air and quickly distributes it throughout the room. It will take a few minutes to warm up a small room, and heating a large room will not take too long.

The body of the heat gun must be closed on both sides with gratings that will freely allow air to pass through. It is a must for all industrial models.

The design of a heat gun is very simple, so a properly manufactured device almost never breaks down. Various fuels can be used to operate the device:

  • electricity;
  • liquefied gas;
  • diesel fuel;
  • kerosene;
  • gasoline, etc.

The efficiency of the heat gun depends on the power of the device. For domestic use, a device with a capacity of 2-10 kW is quite suitable. For large rooms, you will need a 200-300 kW heat gun.

Unit # 1 - Electric Heat Gun

An electric heat gun is perhaps the simplest and safest heater option. If the site has access to electricity, just such a unit should be made. It will be useful both during construction work and later, for various household needs both in the house and on the site.

Materials and tools

To make an electric heat gun you will need:

  • the frame on which the structure will rest;
  • metal case;
  • heating element (heating element);
  • fan with an electric motor;
  • switch or control panel;
  • cable for connecting the device to the mains.

The body of the heat gun can be made from a suitable length of pipe or from a sheet of galvanized iron. For work, you will need a metal tool and, possibly, a welding machine. This device received the name "cannon" because of the similarity of its cylindrical body with an old weapon. However, the heater body may also have a square or rectangular cross section if easier to manufacture.

Please note that the body of the product may become quite hot during operation. You should choose a heat-resistant or thick enough metal for the case. In addition, it makes sense to apply a heat-insulating coating to its metal parts.

When choosing a suitable heating element and a fan, it should be remembered that the heating temperature depends on the power and the number of heating elements. The fan speed does not affect the amount of heat, but the higher it is, the more evenly the heat received will spread throughout the room. Thus, the heating element is responsible for the heating temperature, and the fan speed is responsible for the quality.

To reduce costs, the heating element can be removed from an old iron or other household appliance. Sometimes it makes sense to shorten the heating element to increase the heating temperature. A suitable impeller motor can be found in older vacuum cleaner models.

Build process

In order to assemble an electric heat gun correctly, it is recommended to first draw up a diagram of the electrical circuit of the device. You can use a ready-made scheme, one of the options is presented below:

For the correct installation of an electric heat gun, before starting work, it is recommended to draw up an electrical diagram, reflecting the connection of all elements to the mains

The electric heat gun should be assembled in this order:

  1. Prepare body and support.
  2. Install heating elements (or several heating elements) in the center of the case.
  3. Lead the power cable to the heating elements.
  4. Install the fan and supply power to it
  5. Lead the power wire, wiring from the heating elements and the fan to the control panel.
  6. Place protective grilles on the front and rear of the enclosure.

All electrical connections must be carefully insulated during assembly. At the end of the assembly, a test run of the device is made. If it works without fail, you can use the gun as intended.

Unit # 2 - diesel heat gun

Where access to electricity is limited or impossible, diesel heaters are often used. It is somewhat more difficult to make such a heat gun by yourself than an electric model. You will need to make two cases and work with a welding machine.

How does this design work?

The bottom of the diesel heat gun is the fuel tank. The device itself is placed on top, in which the combustion chamber and the fan are connected. Fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber and a fan blows hot air into the room. To transport and ignite fuel, you will need a connecting pipe, a fuel pump, a filter and a nozzle. An electric motor is attached to the fan.

The combustion chamber is mounted in the center of the upper housing of the heat gun. It is a metal cylinder, the diameter of which should be approximately half the diameter of the body. Diesel fuel combustion products are removed from the chamber through a vertical pipe. To warm up a room with an area of about 600 sq. m may require up to 10 liters of fuel.

Build process

The lower body must be at least 15 cm from the top. To prevent the fuel tank from overheating, it should be made of a material with low thermal conductivity. You can also use an ordinary metal tank, which will have to be covered with a layer of heat-insulating material.

The diagram clearly shows the device of a diesel-fueled heat gun. The device should be secured to a sturdy, stable frame.

The upper body should be made of thick metal, this can be a suitable length of a wide steel pipe. It is necessary to fix in the case:

  • combustion chamber with vertical outlet;
  • fuel pump with nozzle;
  • fan with electric motor.

Then a fuel pump is installed, and a metal pipe is removed from the tank, through which fuel is supplied first to the fuel filter, and then to the nozzle in the combustion chamber. The upper body is closed from the ends with protective nets. The power supply for the fan will have to be taken care of separately. If there is no access to the electrical network, a battery should be used.

It is important to adhere to safety regulations when using a diesel heat gun. Even at a distance of a meter from the case, the directed flow of hot air can reach 300 degrees. It is not recommended to use this device in enclosed spaces, as the combustion products of diesel fuel can be dangerous to human health.

In addition to a unit operating on diesel fuel, other types of liquid combustible materials are also used for heat guns, for example, used engine oil. An interesting version of such a device for testing is presented in the following video:

Unit # 3 - gas heat gun

The design of a gas heat gun is in many ways similar to that of a diesel unit. There is also a combustion chamber built into the body. Instead of a liquid fuel tank, a liquefied gas cylinder is used.

As with the use of diesel fuel, the removal of combustion products is of great importance, since it is impossible to ensure complete combustion of the gas in home-made devices. The air that enters the room heats up when it comes into contact with the combustion chamber. Exhaust gases leave the device through an outlet connected to the street. This indirect heating system is safer than open flame heating.

Indirect heat guns are equipped with a closed combustion chamber that prevents contact between open fire and air - this design is more complicated, but safer than direct heating models

To increase heat transfer, longitudinal plates can be welded to the combustion chamber body, usually 4-8 pieces of them are made. In this case, the dimensions of the combustion chamber with additional plates should be less than the diameter of the body so that the chamber does not touch its walls and does not overheat the body of the heat gun.

The body of a gas heat gun gets very hot during operation, so it must be covered with a layer of thermal insulation to avoid possible burns or fire.

To create a gas heat gun, you will need the following elements:

  • liquefied gas cylinder;
  • burner;
  • reducer;
  • metal case;
  • fan;
  • device for remote ignition;
  • frame for fixing the case.

The gas cylinder is connected to a reducer that ensures a uniform supply of fuel to the burner. The air around the combustion chamber heats up, the fan blows it into the room. The procedure is practically the same as for the manufacture of a diesel heat gun. The device of a gas heater is clearly shown in the diagram:

This diagram clearly demonstrates the design of a heat gun that runs on liquefied domestic gas. The fan must be powered

With a gas heat gun, use only cylinders that are filled with gas on professional equipment. Cylinders filled with artisanal methods may leak

During the manufacture and operation of a gas heat gun, it is recommended to adhere to the following rules:

  1. The gas supply pipes at the joints must be carefully sealed.
  2. It is imperative to install a remote ignition device, as manual ignition can lead to an explosion.
  3. Make sure that the gas cylinder is always at a sufficient distance from the heater, otherwise the cylinder will overheat and the gas will explode.
  4. Never use homemade cylinders with a gas cannon.
  5. Do not leave the operating device unattended for a long time.

Another important point is the ratio of the power of the gas cannon and the size of the heated room. Do not use an overly powerful device in a small room, as this can easily lead to a fire.

From this article, you can find out what features a 220V heat gun has and advice on choosing the optimal device, taking into account the main criteria: technical characteristics, the purpose of the heated room and the operating conditions that it has, customer reviews, prices and other parameters. The text provides an overview of the most popular manufacturers and models of electrical devices.

High-quality heating of large rooms: garages, basements and other spaces will be provided by electric heat guns connected to the 220 Volt network. These devices have a high power rating, due to which they are able not only to quickly dry and warm the air, but also to keep the result obtained for a long time.

An electric gun is a heating equipment with a mobile or stationary design. These devices are used for industrial and domestic purposes.

The scope of their application extends to heating the following objects:

  • warehouse space;
  • Living spaces;
  • garages;
  • construction sites;
  • production workshops, etc.

The range of modern stores includes devices designed for connection to a three-phase and two-phase network. Therefore, consumers have the opportunity to buy an electric heat gun 220V and 380V. Networks with two phases are common almost everywhere, mainly in urban apartments. Their voltage is 220V. Three-phase communication options are used to feed industrial facilities. In rare cases, houses from the private sector are powered by 380V networks.

Note! Electrical appliances are environmentally friendly and safe. Their operation is not accompanied by the release of exhaust gases and toxins. Therefore, it is allowed to use an electric gun for heating residential premises without a threat to human health.

The principle of operation of an electric heat gun 220V

The heat gun, which is powered by electricity, has a simple principle of operation. It is a ventilation device equipped with an air heating function. In addition to standard devices, there are guns with an infrared heating principle. Heat transfer in them is carried out through the use of infrared rays. Electrical devices are designed for operational heating of small areas. The exception is industrial electric heat guns, which have a high level of power and performance.

Standard products consist of the following components:

  • a heating element;
  • ventilation device;
  • temperature controller.

Each of these components has a specific function. The heating element is of two types: tubular (heating element) and spiral. The first option is used much more often, since it has a longer service life than the spiral. In addition, the heating element burns out less oxygen in the process of heating the room.

The ventilation device generates air flows that pass through the heating element, and the thermostat regulates the room temperature. This component protects the structure from overheating. When the air temperature reaches the required value, the thermostat automatically cuts off the power supply.

The choice of a heat gun: photos and prices of popular models

Electrical appliances can be used to heat small buildings that do not have the conditions for a full-fledged heating system, or its construction will be impractical. Alternatively, you can purchase a heat gun for your garage, workshop, or utility room. It is able to provide the necessary level of heating in rooms where a person is from time to time.

In addition, electrical appliances are widely used in construction. With the help of them, you can effectively heat the construction site, as well as reduce the drying time of surfaces after finishing. The power of the electric cannons will come in handy during wet construction work.

How to choose a 220V electric heat gun according to technical parameters

The heat gun is installed on any horizontal surface. If necessary, the structure can be moved. The device works almost silently, which does not negatively affect the tenants of the apartment or the working environment in the office. Its performance depends on the technical characteristics of the gun. To decide which heat gun is better, you should study its parameters.

Note! The first time a new gun is turned on, a slight odor may appear. This is considered normal. In the course of further operation, it will disappear.

When choosing a heating device, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • power level;
  • the presence or absence of the ability to adjust the power levels;
  • fan performance;
  • the speed at which the heated air flow leaves the structure;
  • outlet air temperature;
  • voltage in the electrical network;
  • number of operating modes;
  • fire safety level;
  • dimensions of the device;
  • degree of mobility;
  • decorative qualities;
  • the level of noise exposure;
  • additional functionality.

How to choose an electric heat gun: calculating the optimal power

To decide which heat gun to buy for the garage, you need to find out what power rating the structure should have. This takes into account the size of the room. For example, if the dimensions of the garage are 4x6 m, you can find the desired indicator by simple calculations.

To begin with, the area of the room is calculated. In this case, it is equal to 24 m². Experts recommend adding a small margin of 20% of this value to the required power indicator. The result is: 2.4x1.2 = 2.88 kW. This means that for the specified room the minimum power of the heat gun is 3 kW.

There is one more technique. It allows you to get a more accurate result. It is advisable to use this option to calculate the power of a heat electric gun for a house. In this case, the formula is based not on the area of the room, but on the degree of thermal conductivity of the walls and the volume of the room.

First you need to get the indicators needed for the calculations:

  1. Room volume (m³) - the area of the room is calculated and then multiplied by the ceiling height.
  2. The difference between outdoor and indoor temperatures.
  3. Thermal conductivity coefficient of walls.

Thermal conductivity table of materials:

Wall material Thermal conductivity coefficient
Surfaces with high quality thermal insulation 06,-1
Double-row brickwork or a wall with an average level of thermal insulation 1-2
Poorly insulated surfaces 2-3
Walls made of boards or profiled sheets (hangars) 3-4

To understand which heat gun to choose, it is enough to perform the necessary calculations, considering the same garage as an example. Room volume: 4х6х3 = 72 m³. If the temperature outside the building is -20 ° C, and inside it is 15 ° C, then the difference will be 35 °. Taking 1 as the coefficient of insulation, we get: 35x72x1 = 2520 kcal / hour. 1 kW contains 860 kcal.

The result must be divided by 860 kcal and the result is 2.93 kW. If we consider that the power of the gun is taken with a margin, then for such a room a device with 3.5 kW is required.

Helpful advice! You should not buy a cannon with a high power rating for your home. Such devices expel a strong air flow, so they will create a lot of noise during operation.

How to choose a heat gun: voltage and duration

Working voltage is another characteristic that needs attention. There are units on the market with a power exceeding 20 kW. For the operation of such structures, a three-phase electrical network is required, where the voltage is 380V. If you intend to buy just such a heat gun for heating, you must definitely take care of replacing the wiring with a more powerful version.

Structures with a power not exceeding 7 kW can be powered from a 220V network, provided that the cross-section of the wires is designed for such loads. Before connecting the heat gun, it is advisable to calculate the optimal cable cross-section, taking into account power and current. This avoids wiring and shorting problems.

When choosing a heating device, it is also imperative to pay attention to the duration of uninterrupted operation. The device is not able to work for a long time without turning off, otherwise it will fail very quickly. For this reason, heat gun manufacturers mark their bodies as “24/1” or “24/2”. This means that the device is capable of working around the clock with a break of 1-2 hours, depending on the specified mark.

There are other technical characteristics that affect the operation. When choosing a device, it is imperative to pay attention to the level of noise exposure and the temperature range within which the gun is able to effectively carry out its work.

Note! The minimum operating temperature range for a quality device is 5-40 ° C.

Strengths and weaknesses of the Resant TEP-3000K heat gun: consumer reviews

Many users have already tested the capabilities of the TEP-3000K gun in practice and shared their opinion:

“Great gun. Among the advantages, I want to note the low price. The device works almost silently and does not take up much space. For a small room just right. I can't say that a heat gun is a basic necessity, but such a thing in the house will not be superfluous. The husband periodically uses it in his garage, although we also took it for the bath. When there are severe frosts outside, you cannot do without preliminary heating of the premises. Without this cannon, it took almost the whole day to kindle a bath, with the device a couple of hours are enough. "

Elena Prodaivoda, Moscow

“Using Resant's welding machine in my garage. It's cold to work in winter, so I decided to buy myself a heat gun from the same company. A little disappointed. I have a good, high-quality welding machine. I didn't think it would be different with the gun. She, of course, is small and very quiet, but in fact the room heats up weakly, eats up a lot of electricity. I don’t know whether the heat guns themselves are not at all, or the model should have been taken more powerful. In general, that's how it costs me almost idle. Occasionally I use it to start a car engine. "

How to make an electric heat gun with your own hands

You can make an electric appliance for heating the room yourself. The simplest design consists of a heating element, a fan, and an electric motor. All this is hiding in a metal case. The most difficult stage is the development of an electrical circuit diagram. To avoid mistakes, you can use ready-made options that can be found on the Internet. Most often in the circuit, thermostats and a toggle switch are connected in series. The circuit is closed on the electric motor and heating element.

Assembly technology of a simple structure with heating elements

As a body for a future gun, you can take a piece of large-diameter pipe. For this, metal or asbestos-cement products are suitable. The size of the case must be selected taking into account the span of the fan blades, which should overlap one of the end sides of the device. A ready-made heating element can be purchased in a store or removed from an old boiler or stove. For work, you will need a switch that opens the circuit, a cable with three cores, a safety switch, and bolts.

Helpful advice! For the manufacture of the case, you can also use improvised means, for example, a small metal tank, an old saucepan, a galvanized bucket. The main thing is that the structure has thick walls.

To begin with, the required power of the device is determined. To do this, you can use the formula that was discussed earlier. After that, you need to check whether the wiring in the room can withstand such a load.

Next, the body part is made. If you don't have a metal pipe on hand, you can take a steel sheet. It is bent into position and fixed with rivets, hoops or welding. If you intend to use a bucket or pot, saw off the bottom. The result should be a rectangular or cylindrical body.

Then the resistance of the heating element is compared with the calculated data. If necessary, 1-2 additional elements can be added to the circuit, which are connected in series. To increase the power, the heating element is shortened. An electric motor and a fan are fixed at one end. The blades should cover the lumen as much as possible, but at the same time nothing should interfere with the rotational movements. The mains wires are connected through a fuse. A switch is also installed here.

The heating element must be fixed inside the case, preferably in the center. Plates made of refractory metals or rivets can be used as fasteners. The heating element must be located at a sufficient distance from the fan, otherwise the motor will overheat. The wires should be brought out and connected to the network through another fuse.

The structure is completely ready. Before starting to operate it, it is necessary to check the quality of insulation on all connections and perform a trial test. If assembled correctly, a fan will start at one end, and heated air will come out at the other. Such a gun is very easy to manufacture and requires only time and minimal knowledge of electrical engineering, although it will be much safer to purchase a ready-made device in a store.

Heat guns have become today one of the heat generators that can be used to heat large rooms. But manufacturers did not limit themselves to powerful models, knowing that in the cold season in many regions the problem of heating various kinds of premises is relevant. For example, a garage, a warehouse, and so on. Although most often this type of heating equipment is used to dry out renovated rooms. Therefore, it is worth understanding the guns thoroughly, and answering the question of how to choose it correctly for the necessary needs of the consumer.

It is impossible to say that there are the best heat guns, and that they must be preferred. Making a choice on this principle means making a big mistake. The whole point is not in the design of the device, not in its outwardly presentable form, but in its technical and operational characteristics. Let's look at how to make the right choice using the example of an electric heat gun for an apartment.

Criterias of choice

So, there are three main parameters for choosing electric heat guns.

  • Unit power.
  • The voltage from which it is powered (220 or 380 volts).
  • Heated room type.

Heat gun power

There are certain formulas by which you can calculate how much heat energy is needed to heat a certain volume of a room. They are complex because they take into account a fairly large list of all kinds of factors that affect the final result. These factors include the thickness of the walls of the building, what material they were raised from, whether they are insulated, and with them the floor and ceiling, how many windows and doors in the room, what material they are made of, which side of the world they are looking at, and so on. ...

There is a simpler calculation option, which is based on the ratio of the heated area to the amount of required thermal energy. The ratio is as follows: 1 kW of thermal energy should be spent on ten squares of the area of the room, taking into account the fact that the height of the ceilings in the room does not exceed 3 m.For example, if the room has dimensions of 3x3 m, then it will be required to heat it:

3x3 = 9 m². We multiply this indicator by a factor of 1.2, since the power reserve according to the recommendations of specialists should be 20%. That is, 9x1.2 = 10.8, which means that a 1.1 kW heat generator is required to heat this room. From the models of heat guns (electric) offered by the modern market, it is necessary to choose the one that will be larger and closer to the calculated indicator in terms of power.

It should be noted that this approach to the choice of the power of the heat gun will be approximate. Therefore, we will consider a more precise approach. To do this, you will have to use this formula:

P = (V x dT x Kt) / 860, where

  • P is the power of the electric gun;
  • V is the volume of the heated room;
  • dT is the temperature difference inside the room and outside;
  • Kt - thermal conductivity, or rather, the coefficient of this indicator;
  • 860 is the number of heat calories per kilowatt.

A few words about the thermal conductivity coefficient. It depends on the thickness of the walls of the building, from the material from which they were built. A few examples. Wall masonry in two bricks with well carried out thermal insulation measures. In this case, the coefficient will be 0.6-1. If we take into account a masonry of two bricks without thermal insulation, then Kt is equal to 1-2. If the masonry was made in one brick with a heat-insulating layer, then the coefficient is 2-3. If an uninsulated garage, assembled from corrugated board or sheet iron, is heated with a heat electric gun, then a coefficient 3-4 will be used to calculate the power of the gun.

Based on the previous example, we will calculate the heating unit. So, the room is 3x3 m with a ceiling height of 3 m. Its volume is 27 m², that is, the area is multiplied by the height. We will assume that the temperature inside the room should be + 20C, and outside -15C. The temperature difference is 35C. Let it be a well-insulated room, so Kt = 1 (for simplicity of calculations). We substitute all the values into the formula, which will look like this:

27x35x1 = 945 kcal / hour.

To convert the result obtained into kilowatts, it is necessary to divide the resulting number by 860. In the end, it turns out - 1.1 kW. We also take into account the power reserve: 1.1x1.2 = 1.32 kW. According to the catalog of electric heat guns, we select the first large option, the power of which will be enough to heat the calculated room.

It should be noted that experts divide heat guns into two categories in terms of power. The first is up to 5 kW, which are called fans. The second is higher than this indicator, which are called guns.

Working voltage

There are two positions here:

  1. Guns with a power of up to 7 kW are connected to a 220 volt network.
  2. Heating devices above this power are connected to a 380 volt network.

It is clear that for heating small household and office premises, electrical units operating from a 220-volt outlet are required. A powerful appliance is needed to heat large halls, construction sites or warehouses.

But here the point is completely different. Imagine an old house in which the electrical wiring was left over from Tsar Pea. And if, according to calculations, a heat gun with a power of 7 kW is required for heating, then surely the laid wires will not withstand such a current. This means that they will start to burn, and here it is not far from the fire.

Advice ! Before installing a thermal electrical unit and connecting it to a 220 volt outlet, you need to check the wiring for resistance. And it is better to change it to a new one, taking into account the power consumption of the gun. After all, the probability that the insulation of wires has lost its characteristics over time is very high.

And one more point that does not apply to voltage, but it must be taken into account when operating heat guns for 220 or 380 volts. This is their uninterrupted work. Usually, the following signs are indicated in the instructions for the device and on the packaging: 24/1 or 24/1. In the first case, the figures indicate that the electric heat gun must be turned off for one hour within one day. In the second case, for two hours. By adhering to these requirements from the manufacturer, you can guarantee their long and trouble-free operation.

There are two more criteria that you need to pay attention to. This is the noise that the gun emits during operation, and the temperature at which its quality of work will not decrease. As for the second position, all electric heat generators should work quietly at ambient temperatures up to + 40C. Here is such a margin of safety.

Heated room type

Let's face it, not the most important criterion, but often it depends on it whether you overpay for a heat gun or not. For this it is necessary to give several examples.

  • For small office premises such as a garage, a dressing room, a greenhouse, you should not purchase expensive models. Here you can get by with cheap, even Chinese bunches.
  • If the heating unit will be used as a temporary heating device, then it is better to purchase a portable version.
  • If it is installed as a permanent source of heat, then it is better to buy a good branded unit, mount it in a certain place, as a stationary unit.

Additional selection criteria

So, we figured out the main parameters of electric heat guns, but there are other equally important positions that can seriously affect the choice. Here are a few of them.

  • The heat gun must be equipped with a thermostat, with the help of which it will be possible to regulate the temperature, and therefore the power of the device.
  • An important function of electric guns is the ability to shut off when overheated. Currently, almost all manufacturers provide their products with such a function, because these are serious fire safety requirements.
  • It is better to choose heat guns with a metal body. It is stronger, withstands serious temperatures, and the metal itself, when heated, becomes a source of heat release.
  • Apparatuses with a cylindrical body warm up the room faster, because they are equipped with a heating coil, and not a heating element. For example, they can be used in the garage in the morning when you need to quickly warm up the car.
  • Be sure to check if there is a service center in your area that can repair the model of an electric heat gun you are purchasing.

And one more point, which is determined by the misunderstanding of consumers regarding the type of heating units. For example, such a category as infrared heat guns. What category do they belong to.

First, you need to start with the fact that infrared guns are completely different from the electric model. They have a completely different way of generating heat energy. Therefore, they cannot be classified as electric, although they partly work from electricity, because the fan rotates due to electric current. But the main type of fuel for conversion to heat is diesel oil, kerosene or gas. By the way, manufacturers warn that all these energy carriers should only be of high quality.

The heat gun is an excellent solution for fast heating of premises, residential, domestic, technical and agricultural purposes. In addition, these devices are often used by many summer residents and builders as an alternative and additional source of heat energy. Heat guns have also performed well for solving problems with high humidity in garages and basements.

Despite the relatively low cost and a large selection of heat guns, many villagers, summer residents and simply craftsmen prefer to create such equipment with their own hands.

Self-assembly of an electric heat generator

Do-it-yourself assembly begins with drawing up a sketch of the device, selecting the necessary parts and tools. In addition, it is very good to replenish your knowledge base with the basics of electrical engineering, strength of materials, and physics. This knowledge will not be superfluous when assembling a heat gun yourself.

Materials that will be needed to create an electric heat generator:

  • A sheet of galvanized metal, 0.7-1 mm thick, or a pipe made of a similar material, with a diameter of approximately 25 cm. The pipe will be the body of the heat gun, so its diameter is selected based on the size of the impeller and the size of the heating element.
  • Electric motor with impeller. You can purchase any duct-type supply fan at your nearest specialized store, or you can successfully use impeller motors from an old vacuum cleaner.
  • A heating element. A simpler and safer option would be to use ready-made tubular heating elements from an old electric furnace, with a capacity of 1.5 - 2 kW. This heating element has been given the shape of a spiral at the factory, which will greatly facilitate the work.
  • Copper wire 2 mm 2, ceramic insulator, switch, cable with power plug, 25 A fuse for heating element.

DIY tools for assembling an electric heat gun:

  1. Riveting machine.
  2. Drill with drills.
  3. Pliers.
  4. Screwdrivers.
  5. Insulating tape.
  6. Soldering iron.

Let's start assembling. Bend the pipe from the galvanized sheet and fix its position with rivets. This will be the body of the heat gun. Install the heating element on the ceramic insulator and mount it inside the case from one edge. On the other side of the case, install the fan using the standard mounts. Then, with the help of wires, connect the heating element and the fan to the mains wire, switch, providing a fuse in the circuit.

Important!
When assembling, be careful and follow safety precautions. Improper assembly of such an apparatus can result in electrical shock, damage to the power line, and injury.

Such a heat gun will have sufficient power to heat a small room with an area of up to 20 m 2.

Advice
The body of this homemade ash cannon will probably get hot, so be sure to provide a support for their heat-resistant material.

Self-assembly of a diesel heat generator

A home-made diesel heat gun consists of three independent structures - a body or casing of the device, a fuel tank with a pump and a fine filter, and a combustion chamber. As a rule, the fuel tank in such devices is located at the bottom of the apparatus.

The combustion chamber is a thick-walled pipe, half the diameter of the body, with a hole for a nozzle on one side and a chimney pipe in the upper part. Another independent device that is used in a diesel heat generator is a fan with an impeller. It is this device that will create a directed air flow that will flow around the heated combustion chamber and go out in the form of a hot air stream.

To assemble a diesel heat gun with your own hands, you must strictly follow the sequence of actions:

  1. A blowing fan of the required performance is mounted on one edge of the casing.
  2. A combustion chamber with a nozzle fixed at its end is installed and centered in the casing. The combustion chamber can be a galvanized pipe of the required diameter, sealed on both sides and with technological holes made for the nozzle and chimney. Do not forget about installing a piezo ignition in the combustion chamber. It is best to use the factory version, which can be purchased from specialized spare parts stores.
  3. The fuel tank (it is best to take a ready-made one of the right size and capacity) should be placed 15 cm below the body. In the resulting space, you need to fix the high-pressure fuel pump (injection pump) and the fine fuel filter.
  4. At the next stage of the assembly, you need to connect the injector with the pump and filter with a red-copper annealed tube through which fuel will be supplied. In addition, the fan should be connected to a household power supply via a dimmer. This device may not be used, but it is this device that will allow you to regulate the temperature of the heated air using the rotational speed of the fan blades without increasing fuel consumption.
  5. Next, a flue pipe should be welded to the combustion chamber, through which the products of diesel fuel combustion will be removed.
  6. An obligatory step in the assembly of such a device is the inspection of the finished model by a specialist. As a professional, you can invite a familiar minder from the nearest car service.

Important!
Do not use the device you have assembled unattended and for heating enclosed spaces.

Advice:
A self-assembled diesel heat gun is a powerful and rather dangerous heat generator. If you do not have sufficient knowledge and experience, it is best to use a factory-installed device with built-in overheating protection and flame control.

Self-assembly of a gas heat generator

Many "Kulibins" ask: how to do it yourself, to quickly heat up a garage or a country house. There is nothing difficult in this, it takes a little diligence, accuracy, the availability of source materials and knowledge of the principle of its operation.
The principle of operation is as follows: gas flows from a cylinder into a combustion chamber equipped with a burner. Combustion, the gas heats up the combustion chamber. The air supplied by the fan bends around the combustion chamber, thereby heats up and, leaving outside, raises the temperature in the room.

To make a heat carcass on liquefied gas, you will need:

  • A pipe for a case with a diameter of 180 mm and a length of 1 m.
  • Combustion tube 80 mm in diameter and 1 m long.
  • Gas-burner. As it, you can use any burner from a gas boiler or independently modify various burners for collet cylinders, which are abundantly sold in our stores by manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom. The main thing is that the burner is equipped with a piezo ignition.
  • Fan. For such work, any axial fan with a round flange for mounting in the cannon body is suitable.

A homemade gas heat gun is assembled like this:

  • On the sides of the thicker pipe (body), two holes are made on opposite sides of it. One, 80 mm in diameter, for welding the warm air outlet. The second hole, with a diameter of 10 mm, is for the burner to which the gas hose will be connected.
  • The combustion chamber is made from a pipe with a smaller diameter. To fix it rigidly inside the body, several plates must be welded, which will center the combustion chamber.
  • A plug should be cut out of a metal sheet, according to the diameter of the body and with a hole for the combustion chamber. In fact, the plug will close the gap formed between the housing and the combustion chamber. Then everything should be put together, welded the fins of the combustion chamber to the inner surface of the body, welded on the pipe for the outlet of warm air and the plug on the body from the side of the air flow outlet.
  • The next step will be to install the burner into the combustion chamber and rigidly fix it.
  • Installing the fan should be straightforward. Usually they are sold already with a standard mount or holes in the flange.

Now it remains to connect the fan to the mains and supply power to the piezoelectric element. You also need to connect the gas hose to the burner, carefully securing it with a clamp. After all the preparations and checks, the self-made gas heat gun is ready for use.
