Do-it-yourself solid wood coffee table. How to make a coffee table with your own hands? DIY carved wooden coffee table

Today I will tell you about creating a coffee table. In principle, it is not as difficult as it seems, you just need to have all the necessary tools and desire. And for work we need this:

  • furniture board or laminated chipboard;
  • jigsaw;
  • electric drill;
  • roulette;
  • pencil and ruler;
  • clamps;
  • decorative edge and iron;
  • different fasteners;
  • rollers;

Do-it-yourself coffee table on wheels

So how can we make a coffee table with your own hands at the lowest cost and at the same time so that it has the original shape?

First of all, we turn on our imagination and come up with the shape of the table, then draw its diagram and determine the size. I came up with my own coffee table scheme and this is how its drawing will look like.

Coffee table layout

The dimensions of the top cover of my future piece of handmade furniture are 75x55 cm, and the bottom one is 65x45 cm. The side parts have an arbitrary figured configuration. The middle shelf will serve as a stiffener with dimensions of 55x25 cm. Coffee table height will be equal to 50 cm without taking into account the height of the casters. Having marked out all the elements on the plate using templates, you can start cutting them out.

We mark the chipboard slab

So that when cutting with a jigsaw, as few chips are formed as possible, you need to forcefully draw a sharp knife along the cutting lines several times.

To cut a chipboard slab, we use a file with the smallest tooth and set a reduced jigsaw speed. When working, we try to keep the jigsaw straight along the cutting line, excluding the appearance of a wave. If one does appear, then you can trim the cut with a rasp, using the movement "from yourself". So, we first cut out the rectangular parts of the coffee table with our own hands.

We cut the rectangular parts of the chipboard

Then we proceed to the side ones. To make both sides exactly the same, we will cut them out together. To do this, we fold two blanks "facing" each other and tighten all this with clamps. Then, according to the template, we apply the markings and cut out the outer stroke. For sawing inside the workpieces, holes with a diameter of at least 10 mm must be drilled in the corners of the drawing. Insert the jigsaw file into the hole and start sawing. So we get rid of the inner areas and get the same sides.

We cut out the inner parts of the sidewalls

All our component parts of the table are ready, now we need to glue all the sections with a decorative furniture edge (and if we slightly modernize this one, then the edge of the table will look much more decorative). This is done with a hot iron. Place the tape with the glue side on the cut and align it relative to the edges. Then, holding it, iron it on top with a hot iron. So we do it with our own hands with all the external and internal cuts of the elements of the coffee table.

We glue the decorative edge

If the tape is wider than the end of the plate, then cut off the excess part with a sharp knife, and gently blot the tape cut with stain (you can use an ear stick).

Now we mark the places of attachments for the middle part of the table - the shelves and sides. Fastening here will be special screws for furniture - confirmations. Given the special structure of this fastener, you will need a special drill to drill the holes for it. If there is none, then you can use the three usual ones: under the screw part, under the expanded part and under the head. By drilling the holes, you can fasten the shelf and sidewalls.

Putting the middle part of the coffee table

Next, we will attach the made middle part to the top cover. To do this, we will put our elements in the position in which they should be in the already finished table and mark the places for metal corners and holes for screws. Then we will fasten these parts of our table.

We fasten the middle to the top cover

We turn the coffee table over with our own hands and in the same way we connect the structure with the bottom cover using the same furniture metal corners. Next, we put our table on wheels. We mark the installation locations of the rollers on the underside and fasten them with screws.

We fasten the wheels

That's all! Our handmade coffee table is ready! On New Year's holidays, you can successfully place such a romantic dinner on it or serve it beautifully. So, without applying great effort and without calling for help from specialists, and even more so without spending the family budget, you can acquire a very useful piece of furniture.

Our original coffee table

By the way, such a piece of furniture can be used for further decoration - decoupage, painting or applique, it all depends on you and your desire to decorate the interior of the room.

The drawings of which will simplify the process of its manufacture for you, in fact, it is not difficult to design. Today, perhaps, no modern living room is complete without that piece of furniture.

A coffee table can be easily made with your own hands, while saving a fairly large amount of money.

Many people use it as a place where they store magazines and remotes from various devices, some arrange a romantic lunch or dinner with it, while others prefer to use it simply to decorate the interior. To complete the image of a coffee table, vases with flowers or beautiful napkins are often placed on it.

Determining the purpose of use

Coffee tables are used to complement the completeness of the interior, and to give it individuality. Such furniture is versatile. Coffee tables can be found both in the cottage and in a small apartment. If you decide to make a table with your own hands, do not be afraid and do not despair.

Therefore, before you start making a coffee table with your own hands using a drawing, you need to determine for what purposes it will be used. This will determine its design, size, material from which it will be made, and color design. The drawing can be easily completed by yourself.

One of the most popular is a coffee table made of wood. This model is distinguished by stability and a certain solidity.

A beautiful coffee table, the drawings of which are prepared and located below, has the following dimensions:

  • width - 70 cm;
  • height - 47 cm;
  • length - 146 cm.

The table will be made much easier and faster if, before starting work, you make a drawing of it, at least a schematic one. So, the drawing will help to avoid possible mistakes, and you will also decide what parts and in what quantity you need to purchase in the store for making a table with your own hands.

Construction and installation of legs and base

To make a coffee table, you need to pick up beautiful and high-quality wooden blocks that do not have any knots or cracks. Sawing and fitting to size can be done right at home or in a store.

All elements of the future coffee table must be carefully cleaned.

During work, make sure not to deviate from the conceived drawing of your future design.

  1. From wooden blocks with a length of 42 and 52 cm and a section of 10 × 10 cm and 2.5 × 10 cm, we make two structures on the sides. They can be connected with wood glue and self-tapping screws. Coffee tables should be perfectly level. Make sure that the location of the fastened elements is at right angles.
  2. Before screwing in the screws, make small holes with a drill in those places where they will fit. For this, use a drill with a smaller diameter than the diameter of the screws.
  3. Then screw in the screws, trying to "drown" their caps as far as possible in the wood. Make sure that the screws on all sides of the structure are at the same level.
  4. Next, using a bar with a cross section of 2.5 × 10 cm, we combine these two structures into one. We strictly monitor the observance of the right angle.
  5. Then we attach two more bars on each side, having a cross section of 2.5 × 10 cm. They will be needed for a kind of skirt for the table.

This concludes the first stage of making a coffee table with your own hands - the creation of its frame.

Now it's worth checking the correctness of the connections. We check our drawings and the table itself diagonally. Both diagonals must be the same length. After we have made sure that no adjustments are required, we deal with the sides of the table. We take two bars with a cross section of 2.5 × 10 cm and close the side ends with them.

Countertop installation and finishing

Now let's move on to the countertop. We make a solid foundation for it on the frame. To do this, take 4 bars with a cross section of 5 × 5 cm and fix them. Make sure that the bars are at the same distance from each other.

Now our frame is stiff and strong. Let's check the drawings and take care of the countertop itself.

An original coffee table can be made from ordinary wooden boxes.

  1. Along the edges of the table, at an equidistant distance from the edge, we fix two bars with a section of 5 × 15 cm.
  2. We adjust the length of the main bars, from which the tabletop will be made, to this distance.
  3. Before you install the worktop planks, be sure to sand them.
  4. You must fix the first bar strictly in the center of the table.
  5. Place the remaining bars in turn on both sides. They can be planted on wood glue or screwed with screws, self-tapping screws.

Make sure that they are tightly pressed against each other. Otherwise, after a couple of days, unpleasant gaps may form in your countertop. Lay the entire countertop in this way. Coffee tables with such a tabletop look the most impressive.

Now, with the help of wood putty, start masking all the visible grooves in which the recessed caps of your screws are located. We are waiting for several hours until the putty dries. Then we carefully grind the places where it was applied. Your new coffee table is almost complete. Now he needs to give it a suitable color:

  • choose a special wood stain or potassium permanganate and, applying it to your structure, try to achieve the desired shade;
  • after the table is dry, cover it with several layers of furniture varnish, cover the tabletop two layers more than the entire structure;
  • we leave it in this state for a day.

Now your new coffee table, which you made with your own hands using a drawing, is ready.

The coffee table is considered the most functional and versatile piece of furniture in any interior. It is present in almost every living room. It can often be found in a spacious bedroom.

Made of wood

Wooden coffee tables are the most popular option that can easily blend into almost any interior. It is enough to choose a shade that will blend harmoniously with the rest of the furniture in this room. It is desirable that the decoration of such a table is made in the appropriate style.

From glass

Decorating their home in a modern style, people began to pay more attention to the models of coffee tables made of glass. They look quite "airy" due to their transparency. Nevertheless, as a support for such tables, the most unusual materials can be selected - tree driftwood, deer antlers, corals and others.

Made of metal

Metal is difficult to process, which is why the models of such coffee tables are expensive. They are also heavy in weight, which makes them much more difficult to move around the room. But they are durable, they are not afraid of any damage.

Choosing a coffee table depending on the general style of the room

Look at the examples of interior design, including the presence of a coffee table, in the catalog - you see how diverse they can be (in shape, materials, decor elements and purpose):

Choosing a coffee table for the living room, clearly think over what "duties" you assign to it.

Classical

The most ordinary small coffee table made of wood will best fit into the classic interior. The only exception can be the bright decor of the base and table legs, matched to all other pieces of furniture and decoration. It is very important in such situations to take into account a careful selection of wood tones so that the furniture looks like a single set.

Provence

A feature of the Provencal style is considered to be pastel shades of furniture, including naturalness (unpainted wood), carved legs at the tables and semi-antique design (artificial aging) are no less popular. For example, massive coffee tables will fit better in a large living room. But for a small room, small models are ideal. If you prefer French style, then these tables are for you:

Country

Most ethnic styles (by the way, which include country) amaze with original ideas and unusual use of the most ordinary materials. Some surprise with bamboo models, others - with multi-colored intricate mosaics lined with small seashells. Country music, on the other hand, is capable of accepting a table made of roughly hewn wood or logs into its interior. Also in appearance, models of this style are represented by the roughness of the surface of unpolished wood. See for yourself:

Modern

Where there is truly no end to design imagination, it is in a modern style. Fortunately, materials for the manufacture of such coffee tables can be found everywhere - wood, stone, glass, metal, plastic. The most important thing is to observe the brevity of forms and lines. A little creative approach and a unique coffee table will appear in your interior.

Pop Art

The main task of the pop art style is to transform ordinary things into something from the realm of fantasy. By creating such "works of art" this style allows you to transform the gray everyday life with bright decorative elements. Coffee tables were no exception here. Designers do not spare inspiration, I improve the already existing simple things.

Loft

The presence of rough metal parts and roughly processed wood, as well as the creation of a kind of "street furniture" - this is all loft style. It is original and brutal. At the same time, everyone, without exception, likes it. If you see a coffee table that resembles a cart, know this is also a loft. Many ideas came to the minds of designers when they visited "specific" places - half-abandoned old factories and manufactories, where they drew their inspiration.

Coffee table-transformer

Choosing a coffee table for, think clearly - what "duties" you assign to it. If you need a decorative element of the interior, then take a look at the tables of an unusual shape, which are often offered by various designers. However, if you want to get not only a coffee table, but also a dining or computer table in "one person", then you should look at the folding models -. With some effort, in just one minute, you can transform your nondescript coffee table into a fully fledged dining area for several people. Isn't that what you dreamed about ?! DIY transforming table:

Coffee table as an element of the storage system

Its very name - "magazine" means that this table is intended for storing magazines, as well as books, newspapers and other trifles (remote controls, phone chargers, and the like). In order not to clutter up its surface in most models, shelves or drawers are provided, which create additional space for storing the necessary things. Such elements of the storage system will not necessarily be located outside - in plain sight, they can also be built-in (hidden, secret), which only you will know about. Here are just a few models with original ideas:

Screws and dowels.

Roulette and level.

Sandpaper or sander.

We cut out the details according to the drawing.

We make holes for dowels in a rectangular partition and in the center of the base of the tabletop, at an approximate distance of 10 cm.

Now, at a height of 36 and 48 cm, on the partition itself, we make 2 holes for the subsequent fixing of 2 semicircular shelves on it.

Dowels can be installed. We assemble the table, after making sure that the overall structure is even. Disassemble it again and make several holes in rectangular blanks (36, 48, 23 cm).

We proceed to the final assembly. To do this, we consistently assemble - the base, the central and lower partition, semicircular shelves, the upper partition and the countertop itself.

We assemble with a wooden hammer and dowels, planted with glue.

We finish the assembly process by attaching the wheels to the screws (with the subsequent movement of the table, they should not touch the base). That's it - the table is ready!

Furniture not only decorates the room, but also fulfills its functional duties. In order to add some variety to the interior, you can make a coffee table with your own hands. There are different ideas for making this piece of furniture.

Self-production of a coffee table: calculation of height, drawings, selection of materials

The coffee table can be made of any material in keeping with the general style. The interior will look luxurious if it is decorated with a stone wooden table. It can have a classic shape. Additional decorations are not needed here. Ornamental carving and decoration can be used.

The standard version of the table is made of wood. The lid and two horizontal shelves are connected by four vertical walls with a complex profile and four decorated parts, which also have a complex profile. Due to the ball joint, the product can be easily moved. The table is covered with a transparent or opaque protective and decorative coating.

  • GOST of the tree for the product - 19414-90. In order to connect the table cover and the vertical wall, use a 2.16 D.
  • The lower horizontal shelf is attached with ball bearings 9.2 A.
  • For fastening the ball joints, screws 2-4 are used.
  • Each shield element is made with glued strips. They are glued together with PVA Lux glue, which has low toxicity and quick setting.
  • Each piece must be sanded with a sanding paper.
  • Finish with self-priming varnish and sanding sponge.

The cheaper option is made of metal and glass. The interior looks more sophisticated and light with this solution compared to a stone product. The table top is made of high-strength glass, the legs are made of metal. The result is a sturdy, durable construction that does not need much maintenance.

The cork product is lightweight, strong and durable. It will not rot and ignite. The style solution can be different.

If you need a table for one season, then you can make it out of plastic. This is an inexpensive and short-lived option.

How to make a transformable coffee table out of wood

For owners of a small apartment, this solution will help solve the problem with space. Such folding models have a special spring or gas lift mechanism. You can make a transformer according to dimensional drawings. There are special computer programs that can be used to visualize the product, but paper and pencil can also be useful.

For a reliable high-quality transformer, it is necessary to have plywood (2.2 thickness) capable of withstanding the mechanical element. Details are cut out with the utmost care in compliance with the established dimensions.

Every detail is attached without haste. On request, a retractable and rotating mechanism is made. As a result, the product can combine two tables and perform two functions. During the day, you can negotiate on it, and in the evening you can have dinner with the company. It is convenient to use the product with wheels. You can do it yourself. The wheels should be soft so that they do not spoil the floor.

Making a small coffee table on wheels

Without some experience in the furniture industry, you can start making a wooden coffee table. For this, the necessary materials and tools are prepared:

  • Beams 9 / 3.5 cm, 12 m long;
  • Clamps;
  • Wood glue;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Chisels and hacksaws;
  • Roulette, pencil;
  • Lacquer.

Parts should be cut taking into account allowances and finishing. The length of the allowance is 2.5, the width is 0.6, and the thickness is 0.15 cm. In carpentry shops, they can immediately cut parts to the required dimensions.

The works are performed in the following sequence:

  1. The drawing is being prepared. It can be presented in the form of a plan drawing on which all the necessary dimensions are applied.
  2. Using a hacksaw, cut a bar. 14 pieces of 70 cm pieces for the table top and 4 pieces of 35 cm for the legs.
  3. Then, on two long parts, an indent is made from the edge on each side (5 cm). To do this, use a hacksaw.
  4. To smooth the unevenness of the bars, use sandpaper. Produce tight joining of parts. Refinement can be made using a chisel or an emery sheet.
  5. Each adjacent side of the bar is processed with glue and glued. Care must be taken to ensure that the tabletop lies flat. There should be no misalignment of parts.
  6. After waiting for the glue to dry, the clamps are removed.
  7. The surface is grinded with a grinding device.
  8. Glue is applied along the ends of each leg and along the grooves.
  9. Each leg fits into a groove. Then they are sanded until the glue is completely dry.
  10. After that, they are varnished, dried and the wheels are screwed in.

For better penetration of the varnish into the wood material, you should add a solvent to it. This method is too simple. Even a beginner can handle it. The material used in the manufacture can be the most non-standard, depending on what idea the master wants to bring to life.

  • A cast iron battery can also become a reliable and mobile invention if you put a glass tabletop on top of a polished radiator, and put wheels on the bottom. It depends on what kind of radiator.
  • The original work can come from old windows. For the manufacture of legs, you can use old books, and the table top will be a window. The same can be thought of out the door.
  • The tire is an excellent raw material for design fantasies. You can make a small book table in different versions from it. The tire can be positioned at the bottom. It will act as legs, support for a glass or wooden table top. An original solution will also be obtained from a large wicker basket if you attach wheels to it, and add a plastic tabletop to the top.
  • Industrial cable is produced in large spools. When they are released from the spools, the perfect blank can be made. The coil should be thoroughly cleaned and painted. It can be ideally used as a small coffee table.

How and from what to make a cool table with your own hands

Many people dream of decorating the interior of their apartment with exclusive and interesting designer pieces of furniture. A huge number of such interior items are presented in stores, but the prices for them are often simply fabulous. If you try a little, you can do some things yourself. For example, from various materials at hand, excellent coffee tables are obtained, which will become a real decoration of any interior and a source of pride for homeowners.

Side table in nautical style

In order to make your own coffee table in a nautical style, you will need an old window frame, which must first be cleaned of dust and dirt. Then, if necessary, insert new glass into the frame, clean the surface of the structure from paint and sand it with sandpaper. The surface of the frame should be coated with acrylic paint or white enamel.

To make the legs, you will need a shank, which must be cut into 4 equal parts. To remove all roughness and irregularities, sand the surfaces of the legs with sandpaper. As a base, you can use a furniture board or board, the width of which does not exceed the width of the window frame. The legs are attached to the base using long self-tapping screws. Also, the base with the legs is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws.

Since the frame is an empty transparent box, which can be filled with the attributes of a marine theme: pebbles, shells and souvenirs brought from rest. In order for the table to have a complete look, its legs can be braided with a thin rope.

Suitcase table

The original table will also come out of an old suitcase. For such a piece of furniture, you will need to purchase furniture legs. They can be both metal and wood. If you use special casters, you can get an original model of a mobile coffee table. You will also need a screwdriver, screws and a piece of plywood for work.

First of all, it is necessary to cut a rectangle out of plywood, the dimensions of which must correspond to the width and length of the bottom of the suitcase. Plywood is placed on the bottom of the suitcase and the legs are marked. Using a screwdriver and screws, the legs are attached to the base of the suitcase. Then felt is glued to the base, inside the suitcase. The table is ready.
There are many different options for converting an old suitcase into a coffee table. By choosing the right legs, the table can be made in a classic or retro style.

Log table

Making a table from logs is also not difficult at all. This will require small logs of approximately the same thickness and height (32 pieces). You should also prepare the base for the table, 4 wheels for furniture or legs, putty, glue suitable for wood, and a screwdriver.

First you need to make a base for the table, along the perimeter of which there will be logs. The middle of the warp is sewn up with cardboard. Legs or castors are attached to the underside of the base. In order for the table to appear completely made of logs, small round dies must be glued to the surface of the cardboard. All voids formed between the dies are covered over and carefully rubbed over to create a smooth surface of the table. You can decorate such a table with branches.

Instead of a large number of small logs, you can use one thick cut of a log to make a coffee table in this way.

Pallet table

Even the most common pallets that can be found on each make an excellent coffee table. For work, you need to prepare:

Wooden pallets;
Hammer;
Drill;
Nail puller;
Clamps;
Glue;
Screws;
Screwdriver;
Legs or castors;
Primer;
Soap.

First of all, the surface of the pallets must be cleaned of dirt. To do this, you can use a drill with a wood attachment. Also, with the help of a nail puller, you should get rid of old nails and disassemble the pallets into parts. All damaged and broken pieces of boards must be glued together. Gently clamp the boards with the clamps and let them dry well. Then glue the prepared parts of the countertop on the reverse side and again with clamps. After complete drying, the surface of the table must be covered with a layer of primer and then varnish. It is necessary to attach wheels or legs to the back of the resulting table. In order to make it easier to attach the screws to the table, their surfaces can be rubbed with ordinary soap.

After all the work done, you will get a functional, stylish and compact table.
