Rolling of fire hoses and the frequency of its implementation in the organization

I am sincerely glad to meet you again on the pages of our fire safety blog. It would be wrong to differentiate in any way fire equipment according to its importance, significance or applicability - each element is functionally important, being part of a single fire extinguishing system.

Nevertheless, in this series, it is still possible to single out something without which not a single combat mission of the Emergencies Ministry brigade, not a single building of residential or non-residential premises, can do. Have you already guessed what I mean? No?

Maintenance of this element, like, among other things, all fire-fighting equipment, plays a primary role not only in operation, but even in storage. The frequency of rolling of fire hoses here occupies a special place.

What if you don't roll it over? Naturally, not a single fireman can ask such a question: he understands the importance and necessity of the process, and the unit's charter will not allow skimping on prevention.

But the leaders and responsible persons of organizations that are not related to the structures of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, ignoring the maintenance of equipment in fire hydrants, without having the appropriate marks about the regularly carried out rolling of sleeves, will either officially or not, but will be subject to material punishment by the inspector of the fire control body security.

But is this the main thing? Think about the dangers that come with neglect of necessary requirements. They are not formulated from the ceiling, not to punch your brains out and suck out your hard earned money. Far from it!

Regular rolling of pressure hoses is necessary in order to carry out a visual inspection for any damage that is possible even in conditions of peaceful storage in a fire cabinet, as well as to rewind to a new rib, in order to avoid all kinds of cracks, deformations and other things that are possible with prolonged static storage.

You must understand that it is not for nothing that the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 390 of 04/25/2012 obliges you, as a leader

ensure that the fire hydrants of the internal fire-fighting water supply are equipped with fire hoses, manual fire nozzles and valves, organize the rolling of fire hoses (at least once a year) (clause 57).

Agree that even if the Government of the Russian Federation knows what "rolling" is, then surely it is of great importance.

By the way, the "Methodological Guidelines for the Organization and Operation of Fire Hoses" in the latest edition of November 14, 2007 generally implies a complete maintenance of pressure hoses in fire hoses "at least every 6 months" (see clause 3.5 " Operation of pressure hoses in fire hydrants ").

So the Government has significantly eased your fire safety responsibilities, for which one cannot but be grateful.

It would be reasonable to combine rolling with a test of the internal fire-fighting water supply system, which, by the way, you are obliged to carry out 2 times a year - in spring and autumn (clause 55 of the RF PP No. 390).

In fact, I strongly recommend that you acquire the listed regulations - they are completely simple to perceive, and you can avoid any shortcomings by observing your duties, as well as, if anything, poke them in the face of someone who is trying to instill in you some non-existent claims and violations, encroaching on your honestly earned capital.

By the way, in the context of the topic of our today's conversation, it is not only not superfluous, but also useful to familiarize yourself with the instructions for rolling sleeves. Read our publication of the same name so that any questions and doubts about not only the regulatory documents, but also the process itself, and much more will disappear.

Operating rules

By equipping a fire cabinet with all the necessary equipment, and in particular with a hose, you put it into operation. The rules imply compulsory tests for its tightness by the pressure of a fire-fighting water supply system and an external examination. But this is according to the "Methodological Guide".

In practice, information about the testing performed should, in theory, be indicated in the documentation accompanying the sleeve.

After putting the hose into operation, you should keep a special separate rolling log (form "54-E"), where the organization conducting the maintenance will put the appropriate marks. She must, after each of its holding, provide you with the "Act on rewinding the fire hose to a new fold." The rewinding itself must be carried out using a machine specially designed for this.

There are countless varieties of machines, but they all boil down to one thing: a new roll, single or double. Your option is a single one for storage. Sleeves used on fire trucks are rolled into double sleeves.

Up to the expiry of the manufacturer's guaranteed storage period, annual rolling is mandatory. After its expiration, as a rule, tightness tests are carried out, and if the hose still meets all technical requirements, its operation continues in the same mode, up to 10 years, but no more.

Naturally, in the case of its use, all stages of rolling are carried out without fail. But this, as it were, goes without saying.

So we can summarize our conversation today. Rolling is necessary, it is carried out once a year by specialists licensed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and there should be a "Fire hose rolling log" and an "Act on fire hoses rewinding to a new fold".

If everything is so, then even the most formidable inspector will not have any questions for you about this.

Advice from yourself: before sealing the cabinet, after carrying out the next rolling, install some kind of plate inside with the indication of the last date of its carrying out. There are cases when meticulous representatives of the controlling fire authorities found fault with the lack of such. You can generally use a copy of the act of the latter for this, to be sure.

On this you can draw the line. Fire safety is a rather complicated matter, extremely responsible, far from being limited to fire hoses and their timely rolling. We regularly discuss, we will discuss, simulate all situations and difficulties that you have to face.
