In this article, using the example of gas wall-mounted boilers Baxi model rows Luna 3 Comfort, Main5 and Luna Duo-Tec MP (Fig. 1) shows how remote control boiler through the system home automation(“Smart Home”) Z-wave standard.

Rice. one. Boilers Baxi Luna 3 Comfort, Main5 and Luna Duo-Tec MP ranges

Typically, gas boilers used to provide country house warm, tuned in permanent job in the optimal mode, in which the least amount of fuel is spent to obtain a unit of thermal energy per unit of time. But continuous work even in such an optimal mode, it will lead to a significant waste of gas, because there is no constant need for this amount of heat. Why constantly supply heat to the batteries, especially if there is no one in the house? Without harm to the house (the risks of "defrosting" the heating circuit are leveled by the automation of the boiler itself), you can turn off the heating of the heating circuit for the duration of the absence of people in the house. As a rule, with good thermal insulation of the house, the decrease in the air temperature in the room within 6 hours will be no more than 2 °C. And heating radiators are capable of raising the air temperature in the room by 2-2.5 ° C per hour.

Remote control gas boiler provides, in addition to ease of operation and comfort, a significant benefit - there is no need to burn gas when you do not need to constantly maintain high temperature heating batteries (for example, in the morning you went to work, there is no one in the house). You can switch the boiler to the heating circuit heating mode in order to quickly raise the temperature in the house (for example, before leaving work, before arriving at the house) at any time if there is Internet access in the house - you can also configure access using mobile phone. You can also set an automatic script for turning on / off the boiler by the automation of the "control system smart home” associated with the calendar.

Controller boards for boilers of the Luna 3 Comfort, Main5 and Luna Duo-Tec MP ranges have connectors that allow you to “request heat” from the home automation system, bypassing the automation of the boiler itself.

Here we will show an example of connecting gas wall-mounted boilers of different model ranges from Baxi to a home automation system. Consider the implementation of the following functions:

  • remote control of the operation of the gas boiler by “request for heat” (through the “request for heat” terminals) to ensure savings in gas consumption;
  • remote control of coolant temperatures in the heating circuit;
  • monitoring the integrity of the boiler circuit;
  • remote reading of gas meter readings;
  • timely notification of leaks (in the boiler room, where a large number of pipes, connections and equipment) and about the emergency condition of the boiler.

The tasks can be performed by installing the DCM-5.1.1-Z data acquisition module (equipped with a Z-wave standard automation system chip), to which, in turn, the following equipment must be connected:

  • outdoor air temperature sensor T (type Pt1000 - installed outside the house);
  • two clamp-on temperature sensors T1 and T2 (Pt1000 type - installed on the supply and reverse pipes heating circuit);
  • pressure sensor P (type OWEN PD100 or similar - the sensor is installed in a tee with a socket for the sensor embedded in the boiler circuit);
  • pulse output gas meter (a gas meter, for example BG-10, is connected to a low-frequency pulse sensor (reed reader) of the IN-Z61 type, or it is possible to use a meter already equipped with a pulse output);
  • boiler control contacts (connection terminals are shown in Fig. 3, 5 and 6).

The data acquisition module is designed for simultaneous operation with 5 different sensors, transmission of measurement results via a wireless Z-Wave network and is able to control one external device (has one switching relay). The use of a data acquisition module facilitates the process of equipment installation, and also reduces the number of wires to be laid to connect sensors. Instructions for setting up the data collection module are available on the manufacturer's website:.

The use of a data collection module allows you to include in the "smart home control system" remote control of a gas boiler, remote control of parameters in the heating circuit and monitoring of gas consumption.

The Z-wave home automation network is controlled by a controller, which can be a Raspberry Pi single-board computer (with an installed RaZberry expansion board) or Fibaro Home Center 2. The boiler automation block diagram is shown in fig. 2.

Figure 2. Structural diagram of boiler automation

Five input channels are connected to the data collection module: two clamp-on temperature sensors T1 and T2, an outdoor air temperature sensor T, a pressure sensor P and a meter pulse output. The process of setting up the channels of the data collection module and the types of supported sensors are given in the instructions for the module: . Temperature sensors require installation on metal pipe, or on metal parts: fittings, sensors, etc. In this example, one temperature sensor T1 is installed on the supply pipeline, the second temperature sensor T2 is installed on the return pipeline.

To control the integrity of the heating system circuit, a pressure sensor is installed in the system, connected to the data collection module.

In addition to remote monitoring, temperature and pressure sensors can be useful in identifying some possible faults: leaks, malfunctions of boiler equipment, etc. (for example, failure expansion tank can lead to a sharp change in pressure in the system, and vice versa, a gradual decrease in pressure indicates a leak from the boiler circuit). Also, a sharp increase in temperature after turning on the boiler may indicate a malfunction of the heat exchanger or circulation pump(which in turn indicates the pre-emergency state of the boiler).

The data collection module and the sensors connected to it via wired interfaces are installed in the boiler room. Communication between the data collection module and the Z-wave network controller is carried out via a radio channel. The control contacts of the boilers (see fig. 3, 5 and 6) are connected to the switching relay DA1 of the data acquisition module. In the cases considered (model series Main5, Luna 3 Comfort and Luna Duo-Tec MP), the connection is made to the connection terminals of an external (room) thermostat, while removing the jumper (installed by the manufacturer). On fig. 4.1 and 5.1 show excerpts of connection diagrams from the technical documentation of the boiler manufacturer. On fig. 4 and 6 is shown appearance boiler controllers Baxi Luna 3 Comfort 240 FI and Main5 24 F, respectively.

Note: in a series of boilersLuna 3 Comfortthe manufacturer may not install a jumper, the connection of the data acquisition module relay should be made to the terminals indicated in fig. 4.

Figure 5.1. Boiler connection diagram Baxi Main5 24 F

Figure 6. General view of the Baxi Main5 24 F boiler controller

Activation of the relay of the data acquisition module provides the so-called "request for heat", i.e. switching the boiler to the heating circuit heating mode and heating the coolant to the set temperature. Accordingly, opening the relay leads to the transfer of the boiler to the DHW heating mode.

The Fibaro wireless leak sensor is connected via radio directly to the controller. The wireless leakage sensor is powered by a built-in battery, is able to inform about the state of charge, and has a built-in warning light / sound alarm.

The data acquisition module and the sensors connected to it are installed in the boiler room (except for the outdoor temperature sensor T). Communication of the data collection module with the Z-wave network controller and the Fibaro leak sensor is carried out via a radio channel.

RaZberry

Instructions for setting up and operating the controller are available at the link:.

When using RaZberry as a Z-Wave network controller, you may need to pre-configure the equipment, which should be done in the following order:

  1. Add (if necessary, if not present in your controller) a file describing the device NEVOTON DCM-5.1.1-Z. To do this, the NEVOTON DCM-5.1.1-Z.xml file must be downloaded from the manufacturer's website using the link and added to the folder:

/opt/z-way-server/ZDDX on your RaZberry Pi.

After that run the command:

  1. Configure the data collection module to work with the installed sensors according to the table:
  1. To convert the readings of the sensors (if necessary) into the desired physical. value according to the formula: "Sensor value * Multiplier + Threshold", install and configure the module for converting physical quantities (DataSensorMultiplication - English name). You can download the converter of values from the manufacturer's website at the link:

Now you can set up a "virtual room" in the "Smart Home" Z-wave interface with installed and connected sensors.

Figure 7. Z-wave "Smart Home" interface

On fig. 7 shows an example of displaying sensor readings in the Smart Home environment. After installing and configuring "Physical quantities conversion modules", the gas meter and gas meter pressure readings are converted into habitual measurement units.

Also, Z-way-server allows you to install from the "application store" (Online Apps) the "Climate Control" module (see Fig. 8), which, in fact, is a "virtual thermostat". Like a conventional thermostat, the Climate Control module will maintain the set temperature by switching the boiler into the heating circuit heating mode. An example of setting up the "Climate Control" module is shown in fig. nine.

Equipment setup and software to work with the controllerFibaro Home Center 2

Unlike the RaZberry controller, Fibaro Home Center 2 has an intuitive interface that clearly displays the status of the equipment and received data. An example of the graphical interface of the Fibaro Home Center 2 controller is shown in fig. 10.
