Fire hose rewind

A fire hose is a flexible, sealed pipeline connected on one side to a fire hydrant and on the other to a fire nozzle.

The sleeves are stored in special fire cabinets made of non-combustible materials. For easy storage, the sleeve is rolled up into an independent roll-up in one of the following ways:

  • for storage in a warehouse - single;
  • for laying in with or without a tap - double, less often - an accordion;
  • for temporary rolling before vulcanization or drying - figure eight.

Requirements for rewinding fire hoses (time frame)

Regulatory documents:

  • Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 390 of December 25, 2012 "On the fire regime";
  • All-Russian PPB (fire safety rules).

According to the requirements laid down in the specified legislative acts, the frequency of rewinding of fire hoses is once a year. However, if the sleeve is stored in a warehouse, then it must be rolled at least once a quarter.

If it was used, then, of course, rewinding should be done after each use of the fire hose, but only after it has been rinsed and dried.

Why do the rolling

The specificity of the material from which it is made allows you to roll it up into a rather tight ring so as not to take up much space in the closet. This has a side effect - after long-term storage, the material on the folds may deteriorate. Cracks, irreversible deformations, and other defects may appear, which will lead to the loss of the main requirement for a fire hose - tightness.

Therefore, periodic rewinding of the fire hose is required, during which two tasks are solved:

  • its integrity and tightness is checked;
  • the places of bending of the material change.

Rolling stages:

  1. Rolling out.
  2. Flushing.
  3. Drying.
  4. Integrity check.
  5. If the integrity is broken, then vulcanization is carried out.
  6. Rewind to a new roll at an angle of 90 degrees with respect to the previous one.

Responsibility for the timeliness of this procedure lies with the head of the enterprise or organization where the fire hose is stored. Or on the person responsible for fire safety, appointed by a special order and having an approved scope of duties and powers.

Only specialized organizations that have permits and certificates for carrying out such work can directly rewind and maintain the fire hose. But!

When conducting fire inspections at enterprises, very often questions arise related to the fact that the roll-over was carried out, albeit on time, but “on our own”. This is not recommended, because the fire inspector may simply fine you. But!

Until now, the concepts of rolling and maintenance have not been differentiated. That is, whether rolling the fire hose is part of maintenance. Hence the controversial issues, which in one case are resolved in favor of the head of the enterprise, who independently made the rolling, and in the other - in favor of the fire inspector. We would not recommend taking risks, but ordering this inexpensive procedure from professionals. In addition, if damage is found on the sleeve, vulcanization will have to be done. And this already precisely refers to the concept of maintenance, which means that you cannot do it yourself!

During the inspection, the inspector is obliged to demand not only a fire hose rewind log indicating the date of the procedure, the location of the fire cabinet and the persons who carried it out. It is imperative to provide an act of rewinding the fire hoses to a new roll. In the case of an independent procedure, the act is drawn up in any form.
