The main tactical means of extinguishing fires at explosive facilities of the Ministry of Defense are fire fighting equipment based on tanks and armored vehicles. For all the usefulness of such equipment, the adapted military equipment also has significant drawbacks - low engine life, high fuel consumption, etc. Considering the consequences of the recent fires at the burning arsenals, it is not surprising that the Ministry of Defense decided to place an order for a full-fledged armored fire engine. The four-wheel drive four-axle KamAZ-63501 with an armored cab was used as the basis for the fire and rescue armored vehicle APSB-6.0-40-10. And specialists took over the execution of the order

KAMAZ 63501 is a unique vehicle from the entire range of KAMAZ vehicles, which perhaps has no analogues either in Russia or in the rest of the world. Thanks to its off-road qualities, this model has won worldwide recognition. This truck has a wheel arrangement of 8x8 and all 4 axles are leading. Initially, the car was developed for the Ministry of Defense and the needs of the army, but has found application in other activities where the transportation of heavy loads is needed under poor road conditions. The off-road qualities of this car allow it to deliver goods to places where other equipment simply will not pass. A superstructure can be installed on the chassis to accommodate additional equipment.

The curb weight of the chassis is 10750 kg. Permissible weight with superstructure and load 16000 kg. The car can tow a road train, the maximum weight of which is 37900 kg. Permissible trailer weight 11000 kg. For a unique machine, a unique diesel engine 740.50-360 with 347 hp is installed. with., which meets the environmental criteria of Euro-2. V-shaped engine with a displacement of 11.76. KAMAZ 63501 can reach a maximum speed of 90 km / h. A completely new box ZF16S 151 designed by a German plant is installed on this car. Transmission type - mechanical sixteen-speed. Installation length of the chassis is 6.1 m.

The car is equipped with two tanks of 210 liters each. The maximum comfortable speed is 90 km / h. The outer overall turning radius on this machine is 14-15 m. The cabin is three-seater, all-metal, reclining forward, equipped with places for fastening seat belts.

Armored fire fighting and rescue vehicle APSB-6.0-40-10 (KAMAZ-63501) is designed to extinguish fires in especially difficult conditions, to carry out rescue and recovery operations in places with increased danger, providing maximum protection to personnel. The car is sheathed with splinterproof armor on all sides.

The first thing that became clear to the developers is that it is impossible to do without a crane-manipulator, with the help of which, without leaving the car, it is possible to remove debris from the remnants of building structures, fallen trees on the way to work. And they installed a loader crane, which, with an outreach of 5 meters, can lift 2 tons of cargo. The maximum outreach is 9.4 m. A dozer blade is also installed on the machine.

All controls of the units are located in the cab of the car, which has the fifth booking class, which ensures the safety of people working on the car during the elimination of accidents. The cockpit controls the fire pump, water valves, fire monitor, blade, manipulator crane and hose reel.

Water tank with a volume of 6000 liters. made of structural steel with anti-corrosion treatment, outside sheathed with armor plates like the class 5 cab. The tank for the foaming agent with a volume of 400 liters is made of stainless steel and is located in the pump compartment.

It is envisaged that the car can be in tight maneuvering conditions during operation. Therefore, in the rear compartment there is a hose reel with a hydraulic drive for winding sleeves on it. Through the hose reel, water enters the tank of the car, then it is fed from the fire monitor to the hearth of the fire. The water is being pumped by another fire engine, which operates in a safe place. This allows you not to waste time refueling a tanker truck from a water source that is often remote from the fire. When moving the machine to another place, the operator has the opportunity to wind the sleeve onto a reel without leaving the cab.

To carry out fire-fighting work, as well as for rescue and recovery work, the vehicle is equipped with fire-fighting equipment.

A video surveillance system is installed to monitor the mechanisms of the car and for all-round visibility. The operator, while in the cab, can operate the water pump, fire monitor, loader crane, blade and hose reel. The vehicle can be delivered to the work site by plane, ship or on its own.

The car was designed and manufactured by the specialists of Pozhtekhnika OJSC in strict accordance with the terms of reference received from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The first baptism of fire was received by a prototype of a fire and rescue vehicle when extinguishing a fire at the 99th artillery arsenal in the Bashkir village of Urman.

The car showed itself flawlessly, not a single failure was recorded. There are no comments on the work: the crane installation worked perfectly, the blade helped in clearing the debris. Based on the results of extinguishing, an act of full-scale tests of the car was issued, it was recommended for putting into service. In the next two years, the Ministry of Defense intends to purchase about 100 modern armored fire trucks APSB-6.0-40-10
