How to install a chandelier in a hollow ceiling. How to hang a chandelier with a plank on a hook in the ceiling. Rear cover installation

Lighting is the most important component of any room. In living rooms, suspended ceiling lamps are traditionally installed - chandeliers, providing uniform distribution light throughout the area. With the same type of fastening methods used throughout the country, hanging a chandelier was always easy. Modern models may differ in fixation options, there are ceilings made of various materials, so it is worth considering the process in more detail.

Mounting options

Modern ceiling lights are not always designed for traditional mount in the form of a hook located in the center of the ceiling. They can be equipped with their own fasteners, in most cases included in the kit. It happens that you have to deal with a situation where the chandelier is designed for the traditional method of fastening, and the hook for various reasons missing.

In these cases, it is not necessary to contact a specialist. It is quite possible to fix the chandelier on the ceiling yourself. Installation does not require special skills, if you study the features of all options.

traditional hook

Until recently, all chandeliers were designed to be mounted on a hook mounted in a floor slab. This method is still considered the simplest, most convenient and reliable.

The luminaire at the attachment point has a reciprocal ring put on the hook. The wire connection, hook and ring are closed with a special decorative cup.

The biggest problem has always been the lack of a hanging ring on the lamp. This was sometimes found in light kitchen shades designed for one lamp. Usually, a not very successful, but simple method was used to solve the problem: a knot was tied at the end of the lamp cord, the loop of which was put on the hook. It is difficult to call this method correct and safe, but it was often used even by professional electricians.

Now such problems are extremely rare, since modern lamps do not imply dangerous handling of current-carrying wires and must have fastener. Currently, more often you can encounter a situation where the old hook could not withstand long-term operation or careless handling and broke off. In this case, you will have to replace it with a new one.

To hang a chandelier without a hook, you will need to choose a new one. Wherein it is worth paying attention to the mass of the suspended lighting structure:

  • For fixtures weighing less than 4 kg, it is quite possible to use a threaded hook screwed into a polymer dowel. Such kits are sold in almost any hardware store.
  • For heavier luminaires, it is highly recommended to use anchor hooks. Recently, they are increasingly found on sale and are no longer a rarity.

Please note that a regular dowel hook can only be used with concrete slab or wooden ceiling. To fix the chandelier to the concrete ceiling, you need to drill a hole of the appropriate diameter and insert a dowel into it. In the case of a wooden ceiling, the thread can be screwed directly into the tree, and it is desirable to wrap the hook for the entire length of the thread so that the connection is strong, otherwise thin boards won't support the weight. FROM plastic panels use threaded connection it is forbidden. Even drywall is not designed to be threaded or with the included dowel.

Anchor mechanisms are able to withstand a significantly greater load. It is they who are recommended to be used for hanging a heavy chandelier. A hole of the required diameter and appropriate depth is drilled in the ceiling.

A hook is inserted into it and tightened by rotation until it stops. To simplify tightening, you can use an adjustable wrench or pliers. The hook body is securely fixed in the hole with the paws spread apart to the side.

Even if the purchased lamp has a small mass, it would be useful to think about a possible subsequent change of the chandelier. If it turns out to be heavier, you will have to change the method of attachment again. It is better to immediately purchase an anchor hook, which will save you from possible inconvenience in the future.

Mounting bracket

Sometimes the lamp comes with a special bracket. It can be a straight bar or a cross. The device has holes for mounting to the ceiling and threaded studs for fixing the chandelier body.

The design involves direct attachment to the ceiling surface. If an existing hook interferes with fixation, it can simply be sawn off. But it is better not to do this, because in the future it may be needed. It is recommended to bend it with a hammer and place the bracket next to it. If necessary, the hook can be unbent with pliers and reused. This approach will eliminate the need to mount a new hook at the next change of the chandelier, if a different method of fixation is required.

Mounting the bracket is usually carried out using self-tapping screws and dowels. Holes are drilled in the ceiling according to preliminary marking, into which dowels are inserted. The mounting plate is attracted to the prepared points with self-tapping screws. The bracket in the form of a cross allows you to more securely attach the chandelier if it has a significant mass. At the final stage, the luminaire body is fixed on the bracket with screws, bushings or decorative nuts included in the kit.

Direct placement

Some ceiling lights are designed for direct mounting to the ceiling surface. In this case, holes for fasteners are provided in the body of the device.

Hardware is selected depending on the material of the ceiling. Self-tapping screws, screws, special dowels can be used.

Special conditions

AT traditional ways installation of a chandelier, the fastening of the lamp to a solid and solid foundation- concrete or wood. Ceiling modification may dictate special requirements to carry out the suspension.

Drywall and plywood

Fixing a chandelier to a plasterboard ceiling is quite simple if a special bracket is used. Many fixation points allow you to distribute the load and use conventional self-tapping screws. But bond strength can be significantly improved if you take special dowels for drywall.

The most popular mount is called molly. Such a dowel belongs to expanding mechanisms and resembles an anchor in terms of the principle of operation. The hardware is inserted into a pre-prepared hole until it stops. The rotation of the head is carried out with a conventional screwdriver or screwdriver. The screw tightens the cylindrical expanding element, which firmly protects the dowel from moving and falling out of the hole.

If the chandelier is designed to be hung on a hook, other fasteners in the form of so-called umbrella dowels will help solve the problem. The device consists of spring-loaded plates mounted on straight section hook. With the force of the hand, the umbrella is compressed and pushed into a pre-prepared hole in the drywall. After passing through the hole, the plates are unclenched and securely fix the hook from falling out. It remains only to tighten the fixing washer with a nut.

Stretch ceiling

To mount a chandelier over a stretch ceiling, you will need a special bracket that creates a new base surface. These brackets are produced industrially, but can also be made from improvised materials. The fixtures are a rigid base that is attached to the concrete ceiling with legs. Serial samples have bracket height adjustment, which allows you to adjust the structure to any location of the leaf relative to the concrete slab.

In the place where the chandelier is fixed, a mounting ring is glued to the fabric, in which a slot can be made. On sale there are also special transparent stickers that protect the canvas from a heated lamp.

Brackets can be used for more than just fixing a mounting plate. In the center there is a hole for removing wires. Usually, a hook fixed in a concrete base can also be passed through it. Stretch ceiling brackets are versatile and suitable for a wide variety of chandelier mounting methods.

Connection technology

All electrical work must be carried out under relieved stress. This must be done not just with a switch, but by turning off the machines on the electrical panel. It is recommended to additionally check the voltage at the wire contacts using an indicator screwdriver.

Most older fixtures do not have wire color coding. By the old rules, this was enough. But when using screw cartridges, it is desirable to place the phase on the central contact, and zero on the screw. This will provide additional protection against damage. electric shock in case of accidental contact with the screw conductor when replacing the light bulb.

In addition, the rules for breaking the electrical circuit are not always observed in houses, as a result, the neutral wire, and the phase always remains on the chandelier, which creates a certain danger. For this reason, it is recommended that even a simple lamp replacement be carried out when the voltage on the shield is removed. Only in this way can a full guarantee of protection against defeat be given.

If the chandelier wires have color coding, it becomes easier to connect your device. The neutral conductor comes from the shield. The phase wire is opened by a switch. If the wiring of the apartment is not marked, you can determine the phase and zero using an indicator screwdriver.

Some modern models luminaires have additional protective grounding. If the wiring in the apartment is equipped with grounding, it is strongly recommended to use it, since there are no extra moments in matters of electrical safety.

Wire connection

It is important to remember that all twist connections are currently not allowed. You can pull with the replacement of the twist with a special connecting device, but when installing a new chandelier, it is strongly not recommended to use the old ones. dangerous methods wire connections that can cause overheating, short circuits and fire.

Modern fixtures incorporate special contacts for connecting wires. They are usually presented screw terminals. It is enough to insert the stripped section of the wire into the contact hole and tighten the screw.

If the chandelier and wiring just end with wires, you need to purchase special clips. They come in several varieties:

  • Tubular screw blocks. The wires are securely clamped with screws, ensuring acceptable contact and insulation of the connection.
  • Pads with lamellar current-carrying jumper. The wire is pressed through the washer, so the contact is more reliable and there is no risk of chafing the wire with the sharp edges of the screw. When uncovered, these types of pads have less insulating properties, so it is recommended to use models with covers.
  • Push-in terminal blocks with latch or spring. There are self-clamping designs that are easy to use, but are usually designed for less current. They are more resistant to vibration, contact is not lost over time, since there is no screw that can be unscrewed.

Modern chandeliers may have various ways mounts. Knowing the features of all options will allow you to easily install the lamp yourself. It is possible to hang the chandelier reliably and beautifully even on stretch ceiling. Compliance with safety requirements and regulations electrical work will allow you to successfully make a connection and maintain its reliability for many years.

One of required elements any repair related to the ceiling surface - installation of lighting fixtures. Recently, spots of various configurations have become most popular, but for the most part they are main function- additional lighting. The role of the main one is rightly assumed by classical chandeliers. With their purchase in the store, all questions are not resolved - it remains to be figured out how to hang the chandelier on concrete ceiling right, if you have to deal with a clean ceiling base. We offer you a detailed article-instruction with 51 photos and 2 videos that will help you with this.

Surface analysis, drawing up a work plan

For starters, take a good look around. What way chandelier mounting suits you best? Recall that this can be done through:

  1. anchor hook;
  2. mounting plate;
  3. clamping hanger.

Of course, work with anchor hook always the easiest. But only if it is already installed, as is often the case in old apartment buildings. In this case, you can safely fix a heavy and massive chandelier on it.

If the hook is missing, then first inspect the plate where it is planned to be fixed. For hollow concrete bases perfect option - clamping hanger. And although it does not provide such a reliable fastening as the same anchor hook, it can handle a fairly large chandelier weighing no more than 7 kg without any problems.

Mounting plate, which is often referred to as an invoice among masters - the third option on how to properly hang a chandelier on a base ceiling. It can be used most often when the use of the two options discussed above is not possible. In most modern chandeliers, the package includes everything you need to fix it. lighting device in exactly this way. So why not take advantage of this?

Necessary materials and tools

  • perforator with a drill;
  • set of wrenches;
  • a knife with a sharpened blade;
  • screwdriver;
  • mounting foam for sealing wiring;
  • pencil;
  • dowels;
  • anchor bolts;
  • terminal connectors.

  • hook;
  • patch plate from the kit;
  • hanging hook.

Anchor hook installation

As noted above, this is the simplest and reliable way hang a chandelier on concrete ceiling base. In many old houses, it is already prudently mounted in advance, so the whole process takes a modest amount of time and does not cause any difficulties even for an unprepared person.

If the hook needs to be installed, then the algorithm of work will be as follows:

  1. select the fixation point on the concrete base;
  2. we drill a hole of the required depth and diameter in a concrete base - we take into account the size of the decorative cap of the lighting device;
  3. insert the anchor hook into concrete base and tighten it with a wrench.

Gimbal installation

This option is relevant primarily for hollow concrete structures, as it provides good bearing capacity even in the case of bulky light sources. The clamping bracket is robust design, consisting of a spacer rod and a suspension bar with all the necessary holes for fastening.

The correct sequence of operations when working with a gimbal:

  1. the prepared spacer rod is inserted into the hole in the concrete base;
  2. the hanging bar is placed inside the concrete slab;
  3. the spacer rod is threaded through one of the holes on the plank: if you want to shorten the distance from the ceiling to the hook, then choose one of the end holes.

Installing the trim strip

In terms of reliability, this installation method is in no way inferior to the two discussed above. Due to the fact that a variant of such a bar is always included with a newly purchased chandelier, it is also noticeably lighter - there is no need to waste time on a tedious search for the necessary materials.

May be in the form:

  • crosses;
  • narrow plate.

To the concrete ceiling surface, the patch plank is attached with dowels and anchor bolts. Most often there are a pair of them - either 2 or 4.

Installation and connection of the chandelier

The main condition that requires strict execution is to observe electrical safety precautions. To do this, pay attention to the following recommendations:

  1. turn off the power supply at the switchboard;
  2. check the location of the wiring with a conventional tester;
  3. seal the wiring entry: for this you can use mounting foam with active resistance
  4. fire or non-combustible mineral wool;
  5. Avoid twisting copper and aluminum wires.

If you are dealing with a metal hook, then it will help to reliably protect yourself from a short circuit. insulation. To do this, use a conventional insulating tape or a rubber cover. Both can be easily found at any hardware store.

It is also necessary to take into account some features of the electricians of old houses - they lack grounding. In order to hang the chandelier correctly in such conditions, you first need to determine the phase on one of the wires of the power cable and connect it to the end of the lighting device, and the second to what remained on power cable. If the lamp did not work, then the same second wire is grounding. In this case, it must be disconnected and fixed with the other free end of the power cable.

Algorithm for direct installation of a chandelier on a concrete ceiling:

  • remove all decorative elements from it to avoid damage and possible fall when fixing to the ceiling;
  • on a pre-grounded hook-loop at the end of the chandelier's output rod;
  • connect the mounting ends of the chandelier to the power cable;
  • if the mounting method you have chosen is an overhead mounting plate, then after the previous paragraph, put the cap on the plate in such a way as to get on the desired holes, and use the nuts to securely fasten it;
  • fix the decorative cap so that it completely covers the mounting hole in the ceiling;
  • check the correct operation of the lighting device.

All stages of mounting a chandelier on a concrete ceiling in one video

Conclusion

After carefully studying the proposed article-instruction, you will quickly understand how easy and, most importantly, correctly hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling without spending a lot of precious time on it. In comparison with other installation conditions for lighting fixtures - for example, on stretch fabrics - a clean base involves a simplified algorithm of actions (read how to attach a chandelier to a stretch ceiling if it is already stretched). In fact, the most difficult thing is not to make a mistake when directly connecting the light source to the wiring. Only serious attitude to electrical safety issues and scrupulous adherence to the proposed work plan will help you easily overcome this stage and after some time enjoy spectacular lighting on your concrete ceiling.

The choice of lighting fixtures plays an important role in creating comfort and beauty at home. Having bought a lamp at home, another important question arises before the user - how to hang a purchased chandelier independently, so as not to damage the ceiling and correctly place the product.
To date, there are two main types of mounts that are suitable for a variety of device designs. The choice of mounting method also depends on the type of ceiling.

Fixing a chandelier on a hook

Hook- a long-standing and reliable way of attaching lamps to the ceiling. In almost all Soviet apartments, in every room there is such a mount. If the room where you plan to hang the lamp already has fasteners, then placing the product on it will not be difficult.

In order to check the reliability of the hook, it is necessary to hang a load on it for knocks, which corresponds in weight to the selected chandelier. If within 24 hours, the hook does not fall out and is not deformed, then it is suitable for attaching the product to it.

In the event that there is no hook, but a drilled hole remains on the ceiling, you can screw in new fasteners. His choice must be approached with special care - he must be tightly screwed into the ceiling, there should be no gaps. The choice of size and type of hook depends on the design and weight of the chandelier. If the user decides to choose a new location for placing the chandelier, then the hook can be screwed in on its own. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the fact that electrical wiring passes nearby.

If the luminaire mount does not reach the hook, then an additional chain can be hung.

AT construction stores you can find a hook - a self-tapping screw, which is suitable exclusively for attaching it to wooden ceilings. For other types of floors, you will need to first drill a hole, and then screw a hook into it.

Plank mount

plank– universal way of fastening. It allows you to place heavy structures with many elements on the ceiling. You can also hang a chandelier with the help of a plank.
The bar is aluminum profile, which is attached to the ceiling with self-tapping screws.

The bar can have different lengths and widths depending on the weight and dimensions of the selected lamp.

If the luminaire is too large, the bracket can be formed in the shape of a square or rectangle. This method of fastening evenly distributes the load from the weight of the product, is more reliable in use.
Also, the bar can be mounted in the form of a cross or a "snowflake".

How to hang a chandelier on a plank:

  1. Initially, you need to choose a place where the lamp will be placed. The choice of location must be considered special attention so as not to damage the wiring going along the ceiling.
  2. The selected places should be marked. At the marked places, holes are drilled with a drill, into which dowels are inserted and self-tapping screws are screwed.
  3. A chandelier is attached to the attached bar, and wires are connected.

The bar allows you to mount any kind of lamps, even those that have a high mass. This method is considered the most reliable, because it is convenient at the time of changing the light bulbs - the chandelier does not scroll. While fastening with a hook later causes certain difficulties.
Thus, there are several ways to fix the chandelier, which differ in the way the work is done. The choice of mounting method depends on the type of luminaire, on design solutions in the interior, as well as the own preferences of the owners of the premises.

Features of ceilings

In order for the purchased chandelier to please its owners long years and did not collapse due to the unreliability of the method of attachment, you need to pay attention to the fact that each ceiling can withstand different weight loads. In addition, certain ceilings will require special working methods and building materials.

Fixing a chandelier to drywall

Drywall is often used in the installation of ceilings. Due to the lightness of the material, drywall allows you to create ceilings of bizarre shapes. However, drywall is an extremely thin material and is unable to withstand high weights.

On drywall, you can mount a chandelier weighing no more than 2 kilograms. Otherwise, the chandelier and ceiling may collapse.

If the weight of the lamp does not exceed 2 kilograms, you will need a special type of dowel - a butterfly - to fix the chandelier. Butterfly dowel is a fastener that looks like a regular metal dowel, however, when it is inserted into the interceiling space, it opens and securely fastens. Such fasteners are sometimes initially equipped with a hook, so hanging the chandelier will not create difficulties.

When working with drywall, it is taken into account that the dowel must enter the ceiling by at least 15 cm. In addition, the ceiling is equipped with a special non-conductive sleeve for the safe output of cables.

It is allowed to mount an aluminum bar on drywall, if the chandelier is overall. The method of attaching the strap is no different from those described above.
In the event that the weight of the lamp exceeds the norm, you will need to create a special mount. So, a round hole is drilled in the ceiling. After that, directly to the concrete or tiled base a bar is mounted on which the chandelier is fastened.
At the end of the work, the hole in the ceiling is masked with decorative elements(these may be elements of a chandelier).

How to hang a chandelier on a stretch ceiling

Stretch ceiling, despite all its positive traits, is extremely inconvenient in mounting fixtures to it. The fact is that mounting the lamp directly on stretch fabric immediately lead to sagging of the latter and a possible breakthrough at the place of installation of the fasteners.

To fix the chandelier to a stretch ceiling, all work should be carried out until the film is stretched.

So, a hook or plank is attached to the base of the ceiling. The method of fastening is no different from the above procedure. After this, the tension of the ceiling film occurs. In the place where the chandelier is supposed to be placed, a mark is made. Next, you need to cut a hole that will be sufficient in diameter for mounting the lamp.
In order for the edges of the hole on the film not to disperse, it is necessary to mount a special plastic circle that will hold the edges of the canvas and prevent it from sagging. In this circle, the film is also stretched and the pins for attaching the chandelier are already removed through it.

Working with electricity

In addition to mounting fasteners to the ceiling, it is also necessary to correctly connect the lamp to electricity. To do this, you must strictly follow the instructions written in the passport of the chandelier. If you connect the lamp incorrectly, this will cause failures not only in its operation, but also create a great danger to the residents of the house.

When choosing a chandelier, in addition to external qualities, pay attention to the power and the amount of electricity consumed. Otherwise, the electrical wiring of the apartment may not be able to withstand such a load.

Before connecting the light device, you should understand the variety of wires with which the lamp will be powered. The network goes alternating current, with a voltage of 220 V, a frequency of 50 Hz. The current passes through 2 cables - phase and zero. In some rooms there is a third cable - grounding. Decide with the purpose of each of the wires easy enough:

  • the wire "phase" has a golden color;
  • "zero" is colored blue;
  • the ground cable is bright yellow.

Please note that this color scheme was adopted relatively recently, in the old buildings the same type of color has been preserved, so you will have to figure it out on your own.

In the event that a lamp with several keys is connected in the room, there will be several phase wires.
Before starting work, you must turn off the electricity in the house and you can proceed.
For work you will need the following tools:

  • pliers (for cable preparation);
  • insulating tape;
  • blowtorch;
  • junction box or terminal block;
  • multitester (to determine the type of wires).

It is not difficult to connect fixtures that are equipped with one row of horns and are connected to a single-gang switch. To do this, we find the phase and neutral cables and combine them with the wiring on the ceiling. On the modern chandeliers these cables are painted in special colors or marked in a different way.

It is more difficult to connect chandeliers that have two or more groups of horns (rows). In this case, groups of wires are connected. So, initially you need to find all the phase wires and connect them through the terminal block or junction box, and then connect to the main wire on the ceiling. The same operation should be performed with neutral wires.
Terminal block- a product that is designed to connect wires of the same type.
Thus, it is not so difficult to hang a chandelier on your own, for this it will be enough to follow the proposed instructions, the rules for operating electrical appliances.
If there are any difficulties during the installation or connection of the chandelier, it is better to contact the services of the masters in order to avoid possible problems.

In specialized stores or departments of shopping centers, huge selection modern lighting devices, which differ in both the method of attachment and design. There are reliable options for how to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, which it is advisable to find out about before buying it.

Variety of fixtures for lighting equipment

Previously, the lamps were of the same type and they were fixed in a standard way - they hung them on a hook and connected the wires by twisting. But for modern lighting devices, the design is different, ranging from shades that fit snugly to the surface, and to chandeliers located on a long rod with a large number of horns. At the same time, their weight and the load they exert on the ceiling also differ greatly.

There are several ways to hang a lamp from the ceiling:

  • using a hook attached to the base base and hanging on the lighting device;
  • using a mounting plate in the form of a curved metal strip with two holes for fixing to the ceiling and fixed screws and studs for installing the ceiling;
  • using a cruciform mounting product for massive luminaires, which has a different number of points for fixing.

The methods of attaching a chandelier or other lighting device to the ceiling, as a rule, are not chosen, since this depends on the particular lamp and is described in the data sheet for it. But the strength and reliability of the result depends on how well such work is done.

Wires for electrical wiring

In older buildings, color-coded modern wiring is rare. Usually, a few wires with standard insulation are visible from a hole in the floor.

If the wiring is new and was carried out in accordance with the PUE standards, then the color of the wires in the cable is different. According to it, their purpose is easily determined. For inexpensive lighting fixtures and old-style chandeliers, the wires often have the same color; they need to ring to make the connection.

In modern devices, all outgoing wires with color markings are collected on the block, and the sequence of actions, how to hang ceiling lamp described in detail in the attached passport.

Color marking, depending on the purpose of the wire, is made according to specific rules and therefore it can be quite easily determined:

  1. Phase. Usually it is black, white, brown wires. There are other colors, if they do not indicate a ground or neutral wire.
  2. Zero. Color blue or blue.
  3. Grounding. The color is yellow plus a green stripe.

Before you mount a chandelier on the ceiling, you need to know the purpose of each wiring from those that are in the lamp and in the wiring. If the lighting device is new, like the wiring, then the connection will pass without problems. To do this, it will be enough to connect elements with a similar marking on the block.

When it is impossible to determine the purpose of the wires, focusing on their color, this is done using special devices. The main thing is to remember the safety rules and strictly follow the instructions.

Phasing

If there are no color markings on the wires, in order to recognize them, you will need electrical appliance. It is called a phase indicator and shows its presence at the end of the wire. He has resemblance with a screwdriver.

Such a device consists of several parts, which are:

  • body made from insulating material;
  • metal conductive sting;
  • depending on the model, electronic display or signal LED;
  • button or metal terminal.

Using an indicator screwdriver, the presence of voltage is found out as follows: it is held right hand between the thumb and middle fingers, and forefinger placed on a metal clamp.

It is necessary to touch all the wires with a sting in turn. When contact with a phase conductor with voltage is made, the corresponding icon will appear on the display or the LED will light up. The phase search using the indicator is performed exclusively with one hand.

Do not touch the indicator screwdriver or wire insulation with the other hand. The fact is that in the event of an insulation breakdown, an electric shock occurs, and when it passes from one hand to the other, there is a high probability of a sudden contraction of the heart muscle.

Phasing is done step by step:

  1. First of all, they de-energize the room, for which it is enough to unscrew the plugs or turn off the machine in the shield. In addition, turn off the switch that goes to the lamp. The old device is removed, and if this was done earlier and its ends are already insulated, they are freed from the insulating tape. Using an indicator screwdriver, make sure in turn that there is no phase on each wire. If necessary, strip the insulation so as to release about one centimeter of the metal core. The wires should be spread apart - they should not touch each other.
  2. Turn on the machine on the shield, as well as the lamp switch. An indicator screwdriver is touched to the bare part of the cores in order to determine the phase and neutral wire. To make it convenient, a mark is made on the neutral conductor with a marker, a piece of electrical tape, or it is bent. When three wires are removed from the ceiling, and a two-key switch is located on the wall, first of all, both keys are turned on, the neutral and two phase wires are found and marked. Then one of the keys is turned off to see that there is no phase on one wire. Then turn off the second key to make sure that there is no voltage on the other wire. In this case, you can connect the chandelier according to a two-stage scheme. If there is no indicator, a multimeter is used instead, for which it is switched to the AC voltage measurement mode.
  3. At the next stage, they are looking for a place where wiring is laid in the ceiling. They do this so as not to damage the wires when the strap is attached to accommodate the chandelier. For a non-contact method of determining the phase, an electronic indicator is required. They hold it in their hand, turn on the switch and begin to drive it at a small distance from the ceiling in the place where the plank is planned to be fixed. When a phase wire is found, a phase sign will appear on the display. Several times the device is carried back and forth, outlining the boundaries where it detects the phase. As a result, the location of the cable is determined, which means the place where it should not be drilled. Turn off the switch and the machine. Then proceed to the next stage of preparation.

The process of ringing lighting devices

If the wires brought to the terminal have one color or the marking does not meet the standard, before hanging the lamp on the ceiling, they must be called using a multimeter, for which the device is set to the appropriate mode.

Before starting the process, light bulbs are unscrewed from the chandelier, and then proceed as follows:

  1. When the lamp contains metal conductive elements, and there are three or more wires, one of them may be grounding. To find out, one multimeter probe is placed on the conductive part of the case, and the other is touched to the bare end of each wire or to the contacts of the connecting block. The sound that appears indicates that a ground wire has been found.
  2. To determine the neutral wire, one of the probes is placed on the side contact of any of the lamp sockets. Unmarked wires are touched until the sound appears and a mark is made on the neutral wire, the rest will be phase.
  3. In multi-track chandeliers with two stages of lighting, cartridges are connected to all phase wires - one or more. If it is necessary to correlate them with the key on the switch, they do this: the probe is attached to the phase wire and sequentially touches the central contacts on the bottom of the cartridges. Cartridges connected to this wire are detected according to sound signal. Do the same with the second phase wire.

When there is one phase wire and several stages of lighting in the luminaire wiring, all cartridges should be connected to it. In this case, the phase wires coming from the chandelier are combined with a twist or a jumper on the block. When the preparation of the electrical wiring and the lighting device is completed, they begin to mount it on the ceiling.

Installation instructions for the lamp - how to hang the chandelier correctly

Before hanging the ceiling chandelier, complete fine finish overlap. When the hole in it, from which the wires depart, exceeds the dimensions of the lamp bowl, it is sealed with putty with gypsum, cleaned and painted to match the finish.

You will need the following tools, materials and equipment:

  • ladder;
  • indicator screwdriver and multimeter;
  • drill or perforator;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers and screwdrivers with insulated handles;
  • mounting knife designed for stripping wires;
  • anchors, dowels, screws;
  • insulating tape;
  • terminals or PPE caps.

If, before hanging the chandelier on the ceiling, it is found that the length of the wires does not allow them to be fixed in the terminals without tension, then they need to be increased. It is forbidden to twist copper and aluminum wires, as they will quickly become covered with a green coating, resulting in poor contact. Due to constant heating, the insulation will melt, which will result in a short circuit. Therefore, they are connected by a terminal block.

Installing a chandelier on a ceiling hook

The chandelier is mounted on a hook when it has a significant weight and a long rod. Such lamps have a special loop, which is then covered with a decorative bowl or glass.

When the chandelier is attached to the ceiling, the hook can already be built into the ceiling or it needs to be installed. The process of hanging the lamp is simple, and the installation of the hook deserves attention. For chandeliers weighing up to 5 kilograms, you can use a simple hook plus a plastic dowel.

For mounting heavy fixtures, use hooks on anchors that are firmly fixed in concrete. They are designed to withstand heavy loads. The hook, before hanging the chandelier to the ceiling, must be tried on to the bowl, since it must fit completely in it with the connecting block.

Mounting the lighting device on the hook is performed in a certain sequence:

  1. Turn off the switch, turn off the machine and unscrew the plugs. Determine the place where the hook will be located. It is necessary to ensure that there is no wiring there, since if it is damaged, it will be necessary to shift the wires.
  2. The place for fixing the hook is marked with a marker. It must be located close to the wiring.
  3. A hole of a certain depth and diameter is drilled in the ceiling using a drill or puncher. Then an anchor is driven into it or a dowel is placed, and then the hook is twisted.
  4. Before hanging a ceiling chandelier, light bulbs and fragile parts are removed from it to prevent them from breaking. It is hung on a hook, and the wires are attached to the block. If it is not there, then it is permissible to make a twisted connection or using PPE caps. Isolate the ground wires.
  5. Wires are laid inside the bowl and then it is fixed so that a minimum gap remains between its edge and the overlap. To install the bowl on the rod, as a rule, they use a sealing gasket made of plastic or rubber, or a small screw.
  6. Then you need to hang the lamp on the ceiling in the chandelier and put on the shades. At the end of the work on the shield, turn on the machine and the switch in the room to make sure that the installed lamp is working.

Fixing to a concrete ceiling with a mounting plate

There is a way to hang a ceiling chandelier without a hook, which allows you to mount it on a special bar or bracket. This option is usually used for fixtures adjacent to the ceiling surface, and in some cases for chandeliers with a rod.

The mounting process consists of the following steps:

  • plank installation;
  • installation of a chandelier or ceiling lamp on it.

As in the hook version, before hanging a chandelier from the ceiling without a hook, you need to turn off the power supply in the entire apartment or house. If the lamp is planned to be mounted in a place where there is a hook, then it should be unscrewed, and when this is not possible, then it can be bent or cut down. The hole that appears in the ceiling is sealed with putty.

The process of how to hang a chandelier without a hook consists of the following steps:

  1. The lighting device is dismantled, the mounting plate is unscrewed from it, the breakable parts are removed and the light bulbs are unscrewed. The screws on the bar for fixing the shades are firmly tightened onto the lock nuts, otherwise it will be problematic to fix the lamp.
  2. Apply a bar to the ceiling surface and mark this place with a marker. It must be placed away from the cable. In overlap impact drill(perforator) make holes of the required depth and place dowels in them. The plank is screwed to the ceiling with screws. Additionally, the dowels are fixed with cement-based glue.
  3. Before screwing a chandelier or ceiling lamp to the ceiling, the holes in the ceiling are aligned with the screws on the bar and the nuts are fixed by making several turns.
  4. The wires coming from the ceiling surface are connected to the lamp block, and then the nuts are finally tightened and the device is mounted. If the screws are not long enough and it is not possible to connect the wiring while hanging the device, the help of a partner will be required to support it before mounting. You can also use a strong nylon cord, on which the chandelier is temporarily suspended from the bar.
  5. The plafonds are put in place and the lamps are screwed in. Then check the functioning of the lamp using the switch.

The chandelier is attached to the cruciform bar in the same way, only there will be four places for fixing to the ceiling, and if it is massive, then eight.

If you are not sure about your own electrical installation abilities, it is better to entrust the connection of lighting fixtures to professionals, since incorrect actions may result in damage to the wiring or lamp, which will void the warranty for it.
