How can you make a beautiful flower bed. Do-it-yourself flower bed in the country for beginners. The correct selection of plants for a flower bed

Bright spots of flower beds and flower beds on the site are not only a way to decorate the site. They are great for distracting attention from some problem areas. This, by the way, can also be guided when choosing a place. We will talk further about how to make flower beds and flower beds with our own hands in the country, in the courtyard of a private house. This is not an easy task, of course, but it does not require knowledge of higher mathematics either.

What are

First of all, let's find out what is the difference between flower beds and flower beds. The flower bed has clear boundaries and shape: a circle, an oval, a square. Most often, it is separated from the rest of the site and raised above it. We most often see this type of landscape design in parks and on the streets.

This is a flower bed. It has a clear, strictly defined shape and geometrically correct arrangement of plants.

A flower garden is any place where plants of any shape are planted. It happens with a fence, and it happens without. The boxes with flowers hanging on the fence or on the wall are a flower garden, plants planted in old galoshes are also, a flower spot on the lawn and a ribbon along the path are all flower beds.

We figured out the terms a little. Now about what they are. They are distinguished primarily by flowering time:

According to the type of planted plants, there are annuals, perennials, and sometimes mixed. In some, only one type of plant is planted. They are called monoclumbas or mono flowers.

Sometimes they are raised, they are also called high, there are multi-tiered. Their device consists of several stages: first of all, the fence is built, then the earth is poured into the finished form and the plants are planted.

That's all with theory, let's move on to practice. We start with where you can make flower beds and flower beds with your own hands.

Where to do

When the yard is spacious, it's just fine. Find the most viewed place and set up a flower garden there. What if the whole territory has already been developed, and you want to plant flowers? You can always find a place. For example, near your house, the site is concreted or lined with slabs, stone, etc. At the wall of the house, you can make an excellent raised or even multi-tiered flower bed do it yourself. And there is no need to break the cover. A brick or stone fence is built right on it. It is advisable to put them on the solution, and then cover them with a waterproofing impregnation from the inside ( bituminous mastic) to prevent water from flowing onto the lane when watering. Then you can fill up the soil and plant flowers.

Flower beds are set up along the fences. This is a common way to decorate, for example, a long drive to the house. But this can also be done in different ways. Here, as well as near, a high flowerbed looks better.

A high bed of boards. The building is inexpensive and the view is solid

You can make a flower bed in front of the gate. Street flower beds must be strong. Therefore, for their execution, stone fences are usually used: just in case. If desired, you can make tiered flower beds. They are more difficult to build, but much more attractive than flat ones.

Street multi-level (multi-level) flower bed of complex shape

Even if the yard is surrounded by walls on all sides, and then you can find a place for flowers: Hang on the walls, in pots or in the form of a flowering wall, put up a rack, etc. Do-it-yourself flower beds in the courtyard of a private house can be made from everything and everywhere. It is only important not to be mistaken with the style: it must match the design of all buildings. Some ideas in the photo gallery.

You don't need a lot of space and can be moved. A portable flower garden is convenient

You can make a flower garden in the country near a tree. They already belong to the garden category. Don't want it to be trite? Come up with an interesting fence.

What and how to make a fence

The most common flower bed fence is brick, wild stone, boulders. A structure can be made of bricks in a strict "ceremonial" manner. Boulders and wild stone are more intimate, non-standard fences.

Since they have a decent weight, a foundation is often made under a brick or stone fence for a flower bed. Not if one or two rows fit, but if there are four or more rows. If the device goes on a concrete site, you can do without a foundation at all, but if a flower bed is broken on a lawn or soil, then it is advisable to do it.

It is not even necessary to fasten two rows of stone or brick with mortar. They can simply be laid out one on top of the other, covered from the inside and covered with earth. Brick flowerbeds made by this method will have to be corrected often: bricks can "move out" from their place

The first step is to remove the sod on the marked area. If you plan to make a high flower bed, dig a groove around the perimeter, about 20 cm deep, and 5-10 cm wider than the planned fence in width. This ditch is filled with crushed stone, rammed, spilled with liquid cement-sand mortar. For 1 part of M400 cement, take 4-5 parts of clean sand, mix and pour water until sour cream. Rubble is poured with this semi-liquid solution. When the concrete sets - you need to wait a few days - you can lay out the border for the flower beds.

How to make a brick or stone border

Do-it-yourself flower beds and flower beds in a fence made of stone and brick are the most expensive in the device, but also the most durable. They will stand for several years without any problems.

Stones or bricks are placed on a cement-sand mortar, similar to the one with which rubble was poured, but thicker. There should not be a lot of mortar between the bricks - 5-8 mm. If you put cobblestones or natural stone, it is easier to first fold them "on dry" by choosing the size, and then transfer them with mortar.

A few ideas on how to arrange stone borders for flower beds and flower beds in the photo gallery below.

This is a curb for a cobblestone flower bed. The technique used is different - a roller is formed from a semi-dry solution, small stones are stuck into it

If you do not need to raise the plantings so much, and you only want to mark the boundaries of the area planted with flowers, but are afraid that if the brick is simply dug in, it will fall, then you can dig a trench, fill it with rubble, and insert flagstone into the rubble (stone sawn on plates , it can be found in the section selling materials for exterior decoration at home) or to put bricks while standing. Spill liquid cement-sand mortar around the installed elements of the fence. After two or three days, when the concrete has set, you can continue to work: fill up the fertile soil, but you cannot load the curb or step on it for about a month: it takes so long for it to gain strength.

By the same principle, you can make a do-it-yourself frame for a flower bed from slate or tiles cut into strips. A flower bed can be made of metal or asbestos slate. There are scraps left after installing the roof - use them. Here's what you can get.

Made of wood

It is easier to make a fence for a flower bed made of wood: it does not weigh so much. On the other hand, it is less durable. Do-it-yourself flower beds and flower beds from wood can stand for several seasons. Then you will have to restore or alter them. For ceremonial flower beds, it is used very rarely, but in the country or near a private house, a flower garden fenced with a wooden border is original and stylish. Especially if it has something in common with the style of design of buildings on the site.

You can use wood in any form to decorate summer cottages. They make flower beds from boards, small-diameter round timber (small logs), block house (boards, convex on one side, similar to a log) and any other wooden remains. You can even cut a dead tree into chocks, bury / hammer them into the ground, making such an unusual flower bed.

Birch woods - an excellent fence for a flower garden An interesting idea for a high flower bed - a well is made of scraps of logs Two pieces of a block house, installed one on top of the other - and in front of you is already an excellent one country flower bed

How to make a wooden border? Find a small diameter log, cut it into chocks of different lengths and split them in half. You will get blanks, as in the photo on the left. They are laid on flat surface convex side down one next to the other. Take a flexible thick wire and staples from construction stapler or with bent studs fasten the wire to the flat side of the pieces of wood. One wire is nailed at the bottom, the other at the top. It turns out a flexible border made of wood, which can be used to enclose a flower garden of any shape (pictured on the right).

So that the wood does not lose its attractiveness and does not rot, it is treated with protective impregnations. They can simultaneously give it color, or they can be colorless. From such pieces of wood collected in a ribbon, you can make flower beds with your own hands of any shape. Dig a shallow groove, a little wider than your fence, insert a fence for a flower bed there and sprinkle it with earth, tamp it.

From boards and beams

In our country, wood is one of the most inexpensive building materials. Therefore, they build from it a lot and often. They are made of wood and a fence or fence for flower beds. The easiest way is to enclose a flower bed with boards. For support, you will need several bars - not very thick, but wide. Approx 50 * 150mm and edged board 20mm thick. Choose its width yourself so that several pieces installed on the edge give you the required height.

Soak the wood with protective impregnations, when it dries, you can start working. Support bars are installed first. They can be sharpened at one end and carefully hammered without damaging the upper surface (put a piece of a bar and hit on it), or you can dig a hole about 50 cm deep, install a bar in it, bury and compact the earth around. Bars are installed in increments of 1-1.5 meters, depending on how wide the flower garden will be. The wider and higher it is, the more mass will have to be held, therefore supports are more often put.

Boards are nailed to the exposed supports. They can be stuffed from the inside and then the support bars will be visible, or from the outside. In the second option, only a wall of planks will be visible. The joints of the boards should fall on the beams.

Plank beds can be made in a variety of shapes. Even in the form of a pyramid. Several interesting ideas there is below.

And this is how to make a flower bed in the form of a pyramid

Made of plastic

There are many types of ready-made fences for flower beds and flower beds made of plastic or plastic. They have special legs that are immersed in the ground along the edge of the planted area.

But it's not about them, but about flower beds made of scrap materials. For example, you can make a decent fence for a flower bed out of plastic bottles.

They are selected by displacement and color. This will make the fence look better. Then the necks are cut off at one level and stuck into the ground. This is one mounting option for creating a low curb. The second will turn out to be much higher. It can be used in fondant taller plants. In this case, take wooden bar, to it at a certain distance, so that the bottles are close to one another, caps are nailed. Bottles are screwed into the caps. To make such a plastic fence for a flower garden more stable, it is pierced through with wire closer to the bottoms and closer to the narrowing point at the neck. The finished section of the fence is installed and fixed on the ground.

Despite the fact that the material is waste, if everything is done carefully, such a fence looks decent, nice, nice. A photo of fences for flower beds and flower beds made of plastic bottles is in the photo below.

Sometimes you wonder how people manage to make original, unusual, and, what is important, beautiful things. So it is in the design of flower beds. Well, I myself would never have thought that old chest or galoshes, the hat can be turned into a flower garden or flowerpot. Look for yourself - the photos don't lie.

Flowerbeds of tires

Completely unattractive car tires turn into beautiful flower beds. The tires are cut, the edges are sanded with a grinder with an emery nozzle. The resulting flowerpots are washed with soapy water and dried: the plants will not develop well if the machine oil, gasoline and other similar substances that get inside are not washed.

After drying, they paint it. You can paint the tire (tire) with the usual oil paint, only the surface must be degreased, dry and clean. It lasts for several years. There are special paints for tires. They are much more expensive - they are made for styling tires. After the paint dries, you can install a finished flower bed from tires and fill it with soil, plant plants. How you can make a flower garden out of tires with your own hands, or rather, how to arrange it, see below (the photo gallery scrolls automatically, if you need to stop, click on the picture).

Of old things

Whether it will surprise you or not, I do not know, but flowers are planted even in old things. Did the kids grow out of rubber boots? Why throw them away? Make a couple of holes in the sole for drainage, fill in the soil, plant some flowers. Original flower beds and ampelous plants are obtained.

Get dusty in the old barn gas stove? It can also be adapted for a flower garden. A flowerbed with an interesting design can decorate any private plot, even if there are heavy and not very attractive buildings on it. Competently filled with various decorative crops the flower garden adds bright colors to the look of the territory.

The simplest house, immersed in a riot of colors of plants, seems interesting and boring. Do beautiful flower bed it's not difficult with your own hands, but this task requires some preparation: the right choice places, soil processing and thinking through the composition.

A flowerbed in front of the house is a common landscape design technique

Seat selection

The first step in planning a flower garden is choosing a place for it. It is especially important to consciously approach this step if the personal plot is small. In this matter, two aspects must be taken into account: location in relation to the sun and personal preference.

For the most part, street flowers are sun-loving. In order not to further limit yourself in the choice of plants, it is better to immediately select for a flower bed sunny plot protected from drafts.

At the same time, due to territorial limitations, or individual desires, the flower garden may have to be broken right under the window, under the wall of the house and in other shaded places. In this case, it will be necessary to select plants that live comfortably in such conditions.

Soil preparation and planting features

It is with the preparation of the soil that it is worth starting the practical implementation of the plan for the design of the flower garden. In the process of soil cultivation, it is possible to study the composition of the soil and make adjustments to the planned list of plants. The optimal period for this is spring.

High quality soil- the key to successful "prosperity" of the flower bed

You can make a flower bed with your own hands even on not very fertile soil by taking certain measures. Key recommendations:

  • clay soil will become lighter if sand is added to it;
  • clay and stone flour will help to weigh down the soil;
  • to improve the characteristics of any type of soil, compost and peat are suitable, these fertilizers increase air exchange and moisture yield of the soil, positively affecting its fertility.

It is possible to enrich the earth with oxygen and distribute all the added additives so that the soil is homogeneous, by digging. For this, it is advisable to use a garden pitchfork. The ideal working depth is 25cm. As a result, the root system of plants will receive the most favorable conditions for its development.

Planting perennial plants is best done in the fall. Depending on the type, you should choose a day in the interval from early September to mid-October. Planting in autumn allows perennials to more easily adapt to cold weather and harden in winter.

When using seedlings in pots (with closed roots), planting can be carried out during all summer months. However, it is important to actively water the plants and protect them from scorching sun at first time.

Mixborder arrangement rules

The mixborder includes many plants that form in three to five tiers

The flowerbed looks very impressive, where the plants are located, the flowering periods of which follow each other, without interruption. Subject to proper care, it will decorate the territory with bright shades in spring, summer, late autumn and even in winter.

One of the options for clubs with continuous flowering is a mixborder. Its feature is the planting of various plants in several rows and tiers, while symmetry is optional.

A mixborder is a rather complex engineering and artistic structure that requires a well-thought-out composition and accurate calculation. It can be based on flowering perennials, which can be supplemented with herbaceous and small tree species, as well as conifers and plants with decorative foliage. As a rule, at least 5-6 different types are used. With the right selection, you can create a unique element of landscape design.

The plantings are arranged in 3-4 tiers. In the foreground there should be plants up to 40cm high, in the middle - 40-70cm, in the background - 80-150cm. The stems of the posterior layer are covered with flowers and foliage of the anterior one.

When planning a mixborder, it is very important to consider the flowering time of the plants. Species blooming in one period should be evenly spaced over the site and combined with each other so that the overall picture is harmonious.

In most cases, the flowering time is around two weeks. Borderline moments, when some buds wither, and others are just beginning to bloom, cannot be avoided. To smooth them out, it is necessary to plant species with beautiful decorative leaves.

Detailed planning will help to bring together disparate ideas and take into account all the nuances. It is worth drawing up a flowering calendar of plants, and then drawing on paper a sketch of the future flower bed, indicating the names of plant species. The backdrop for a mixborder can be a fence, house wall, hedge, or gazebo.

Flowering periods

What flowers can be planted on different tiers of the mixborder in the yard, taking into account the flowering period? The last plan is worth placing high views plants blooming in the last weeks of summer and autumn. We are talking about chrysanthemums (Indian and Korean), hybrid delphinium, sunflower, irises (Siberian and garden), peony, perennial lupine, echinacea, astilbe (Thunberg and hybrid), paniculata phlox, aquilegia, asparagus, mullein, mackerel , aconite klobuchkov and others.

The central strip of the flower bed should be decorated with medium plants, the flowers on which bloom from late June to early August. These include lilies and daylilies different varieties, low dahlias, astilbe (Japanese and Arends), phlox and so on.

In front of them, on the first tier, low species can grow that bloom in spring, including: hare ears, pansies, forget-me-nots, primroses, arabis, creeping gypsophila, coreopsis, phlox, alpine aster, sedum and others. It should be borne in mind that some plants bloom twice during the summer, for example, daisies, lupins, delphiniums, primroses.

Flowers on a mixborder should bloom alternately

Mixborder options

Thinking about how to equip a mixborder near the house, it is advisable to see a photo of flower beds. You don't have to copy them completely, you just need to learn some decorating techniques.

Mixborder number 1:

  • the back row - in the center - a beautiful white hellebore, on the sides of it - asters, along the edges - mallow;
  • middle row - lush roses, irises and daffodils;
  • the first row is a pretty carnation.

Mixborder No. 2 (design suitable for positioning near a fence):

  • back row - morning glory and clematis, curling along the support;
  • middle row - blue delphinium and echinacea;
  • the front row is an urban lily of the valley.

Planting option in a mixborder

Flower gardens in front of the house and under the window

In front of the house, an oval or round flower bed with an area of 1 × 1.5 m will look very good. What plants to choose so that right after leaving the room into the yard, you can immerse yourself in wonderful aromas and bright colors? It all depends on the individual taste preferences... For example, you can place a large plant in the center - phlox, rose bush, peony, and from it "start up" circles of smaller flowers:

  • the first circle (from the center) - Siberian irises, Fassen catnip and sage;
  • the second - daffodils, tulips;
  • the third - crocuses, muscari, woodlands.

The flower garden in front of the house is always near

When equipping a flower bed with your own hands in front of a window in a private courtyard, it is worth considering not only the appearance of flowers, but also their aromas. V summer time when the sun goes down and the coolness of the night falls, it is incredibly pleasant to inhale the delicate scents that take on a special richness. One of possible options- to place along the perimeter of the flower bed low plants(up to 20cm), increasing their height as they move towards the center, where flowers can be up to 40-70cm in length. The optimal set is a fragrant violet, paniculate phlox, daylily, peonies.

Another way to organize a flower bed in front of a window is simple and sophisticated. You can plant lavender on the periphery with a soothing scent, and in the center - bright yellow echinacea.

Tall flowers should be planted in the center or in the background of the flower bed.

In the shadow by the fence

When planning a flower bed in the shade of a fence or wall of a private house, you should find out in advance whether there is always no sun in this place. The fact is that there are more rocks that tolerate partial shade well than those that do not like sunlight at all. Second important point- soil moisture. Some plants are suitable for dry soil in the shade, while others are suitable for wet soil. Perennial breeds that do not need the sun include sedges, lilies, hosts, crows, mountain goats, ferns, rogers, martagons, arizems, and others.

You can make such a composition. Plant a high mock-orange near the fence. Foxglove flowers will look great against the background of a chubushnik. Their cups Pink colour collected in an inflorescence in the form of a brush up to 85cm long. The foxglove grows for two years and can reach 150cm in height; it blooms from June to July.

Next, it is worth placing several small groups of perennial lupines. It has a very peculiar palm-shaped foliage on elongated petioles, but pale yellow flowers look unattractive when wilted. They should be planted behind other plants in the depths.

Sunbeams in the shade replace the narrow, curved leaves of the Golden Zebra daylily, which are adorned with stripes of yellow and green. The buds of the plant are also colored in yellow... Unfortunately, they are not very pretty, they can be removed immediately.

In places with limited illumination planted shade-loving plants

In the foreground, the cuff should be planted in the company of the incense. The latter has leathery, lacquered, dark green, large leaves that go well with the lowered rounded foliage of the cuff. Her flowers are pale, yellow-green in color, they are collected in small inflorescences of a fuzzy shape. The cuff blooms all summer.

Another way to decorate a flower bed in the shade is to use conifers, including firs, spruces, some types of junipers, tueviks, and Canadian hemlock. They can be supplemented with deciduous shrubs that do not need sun. These include hawthorn, dogwood, elderberry and others.

A bed of conifers is an excellent option for a private house, in which, unlike a summer cottage, people live permanently. Such an element of landscape design will decorate the territory. all year round... You can find ideas for decorating by looking at the photo.

Complex composition

When decorating a fence or wall over a large area, you can break a complex plant combination consisting of five strips of trees and bushes. The rocks should be placed symmetrically, adjusting the density and quantity in accordance with the area of the site.

A bed of conifers - a desert island on a lawn

Sequence:

  • the first (farthest) line is the middle juniper in the center, on the sides of it with an indention of 1 m - western thuja Holmstrup, then tenberg barberries and rocky junipers;
  • second - horizontal juniper Blue Chip;
  • the third - opposite the thuja from the first line - thuja Europe Gold, the rest of the space - Japanese spirea;
  • fourth - western thuja Globos and juniper Prince of Wales;
  • the fifth - the same plants as in the fourth line, as well as the Morrow sedge and similar cereals.

Compact options

If it is necessary to demarcate the site, you can make a cascade hedge from conifers, consisting of two rows. It will decorate and ennoble even a not very large area. Sequence:

  • behind - thorny spruce and Chinese juniper;
  • in front - eastern thuja, middle and coastal juniper, undersized spruce.

A few conifers near the house will provide a unique aroma

If there is a small free area, it is worth organizing a compact green flowerbed with a coniferous aroma. It will require only three types of plants - coastal juniper, western thuja and mountain pine. Pine and thuja can be centered, framed by juniper bushes.

Concept " landscape design"can be interpreted in different ways. For many, this is an individual fairy-tale world in a personal or summer cottage. At first glance, it may seem that it is not so easy to create it.

General information

Naturally, the breakdown of the site, self-planting and design of a flower garden in the country is not such a difficult task. However, if there is a need to make changes to the landscape, then it becomes much more complicated. For example, it may be necessary to arrange a decorative reservoir or lay out a cascading lawn in the place where unnecessary and old trees are now growing.

It is recommended to redevelop the landscape in stages and make rational use of the available area. It is worth noting that the relief in a specific area has already been outlined by time. At the same time, the issue with reservoirs is also considered resolved. It remains to work with ornamental plants of seasonal or continuous flowering. Ideal option items that do not require significant capital investment will be considered. The aroma, variety of colors, duration and area of flowering depend on it. In order to independently and without difficulties choose the composition of the flower bed, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the plants and their type. First of all, this applies to the following factors:

Flower beds

They are represented by the following types:

  1. Biennials.
  2. Annuals.
  3. Perennials.

Among the latter, exotic, cold-resistant and heat-loving plants can be distinguished. Biological features each flower should also be counted. It is about the compatibility of plants and their need for dry or wet soil, abundance of light and warmth, or damp shade.

In this case, there are no hard and fast rules. However, many will want to independently create unique flower beds in the country with their own hands. To do this, you will need to adhere to certain recommendations. Elements are combined according to some attribute and perform a specific task. These features can be very different. For example, plants are arranged according to the contrast of shapes, colors or flowering time (sequential or parallel). It also depends on the task that the composition should perform. Flower gardens in the country are often set up to decorate an unsuccessful construction or an unattractive place, as well as emphasize the merits of the landscape.

Varieties of compositions

In the process of collecting a flower bed, the type of flower bed must be taken into account. For example, the composition of the vertical type is most often composed of creeping (bindweed, ivy grapes and other liana-like) and climbing plants. In a similar design, they can be arranged in tiers or planted along the outer diameter. For example, in a "candle" there is a transverse band of colors. Such compositions look very original. Illumination can be provided inside the frame. Thus, the plants will look unusual and very beautiful at night.

Components of the "candle" composition

Bindweed

It is an unpretentious perennial plant. It blooms in spring. Planting in a flower bed is carried out by seedlings. It is not recommended to use more than four colors in a composition.

Nasturtium

This flower is an annual. It belongs to climbing plants.

Maiden grapes

It belongs to perennial climbing plants. It has small clusters of blue-black berries. It is considered a medicinal plant. Reproduction takes place using cuttings or shoots. The crimson leaves of this plant look very beautiful.

Common compositions

Those ensembles that are based on the play of colors, sizes and shapes look most advantageous.

Crown

Outwardly, it resembles a royal attribute. Looks impressive due to the variety of shapes.

Pyramid

This form can be presented in 3-5 steps. The latter are smoothed, the upper tier is sharp.

Cascade

This form can also be presented in 3-5 steps. It is characterized by a flat top tier, which looks like a wedding cake.

In the above compositions, the following types of plants can be planted:

Decorative onion

It is perennial unpretentious plant... Disembarkation is carried out in groups. It is characterized by a variety of forms.

Geranium

It boasts a variety of species and colors: white, gray, burgundy, purple and lilac.

the Rose

It is characterized by abundant flowering. It is great for the lower tier.

Knifonia

It is also a perennial plant. It has arrow-shaped inflorescences. This plant requires abundant watering. Shelter with sawdust is necessary in winter.

Lupine

This plant is quite moody. However, its bloom is incredibly beautiful. Reproduction takes place through cuttings, bushes and seeds.

Zinnia terry

This plant is annual. It should be sown in warm soil. Flowering occurs in autumn and is very abundant.

The flower garden pattern will be distorted during the growth of annual plants. Thus, the contours and boundaries of the flower bed are violated.
