Rubber materials and combined rubber products cannot be replaced by other products. Unique combination of characteristics and performance allows the use of such materials in complex work processes, complementing the device of machines, machine tools, devices and building structures... Modern rubber production has made significant advances in technology, which is reflected in the quality of the products. Technologists strive to increase the durability, strength and resistance of products to the effects of third-party factors.

What raw materials are rubber made from?

Most of the rubber materials are produced from industrial processing of synthetic and natural rubber compounds. This treatment is achieved by cross-linking rubber molecules with chemical bonds. Recently, powdered raw materials have been used for the production of rubber, the characteristics of which are specially designed for the formation of injection molds. These are ready-made compositions based on liquid rubber, from which, among other things, ebonite products are produced. The vulcanization process itself is not complete without special activators or agents - this is chemical substances, contributing to maintaining the optimal working qualities of the mixture. Sulfur is usually used for this task. These are the components that form the basis of the kit required for the manufacture of rubber. But, depending on the required performance and the purpose of the product, technologists introduce production stages at which the structure of the product is enriched with modifying elements.

Additives for modifying rubber compounds

During the manufacturing process, the rubber compound can be filled with accelerators, activators, vulcanizing agents, softeners and other components. Therefore, the question of what rubber is made of is largely determined by auxiliary additives. For example, reclaims are used to preserve the structure of the material. With this filler, the rubber product can be re-vulcanized. A large part of the modifiers does not affect the final technical and operational properties, but plays a significant role directly in the manufacturing process. The same vulcanization process is corrected by accelerators and retarders of chemical reactions.

A separate group of additives are plasticizers, that is, softeners. They are used to lower the temperature during vulcanization and to disperse other formulation ingredients. And here another question may arise - to what extent do additives and rubber itself affect the chemical safety of the mixture being formed? That is, what is rubber made from in terms of environmental friendliness? In part, these are mixtures that are really hazardous to health, which include the same sulfur, bitumen and dibutyl phthalates, stearic acids, etc. But some of the ingredients are natural substances - natural resins, the same rubber, vegetable oils and wax components. Another thing is that in different mixtures the ratio of harmful synthetics and natural ingredients may change.

Stages of the rubber product manufacturing process

The industrial production of rubber begins with the process of plasticizing the raw material, that is, rubber. At this stage, the main quality of the future rubber is acquired - plasticity. Mechanical and heat treatment softens the rubber to a certain extent. From the obtained base, rubber production will be carried out in the future, but before that the plasticized mixture is modified by the additives discussed above. At this stage, a rubber composition is formed, to which sulfur and other active components are added to improve the characteristics of the composition.

Calendering is also an important step before vulcanization. In essence, this is the molding of a crude rubber mixture that has undergone enrichment with additives. The choice of calendering method is determined by the specific technology. Rubber production at this stage may also involve extrusion. While conventional calendering aims to create simple rubber molds, extrusion allows complex products to be made in the form of hoses, O-rings, car tire treads, etc.

Vulcanization as the final stage of production

In the process of vulcanization, the workpiece undergoes final processing, due to which the product receives characteristics sufficient for operation. The essence of the operation is the effect of pressure and high temperature for a modified rubber mixture enclosed in metal mold... The molds themselves are installed in a special autoclave connected to a steam heater. In some areas, rubber production may also include casting hot water, which stimulates the process of pressure distribution through the fluid. Modern enterprises also strive to automate this stage. More and more new molds appear that interact with steam and water supply nozzles based on computer programs.

How are rubber products manufactured?

These are combined products that are obtained by combining fabric materials with a rubber mixture. In the process of manufacturing rubber products, paronite is often used - a hybrid material obtained by combining heat-resistant rubber and inorganic fillers. Further, the workpiece is processed by rolling and vulcanization. Rubber products are also obtained using syringe machines. In them, a thermal effect is exerted on the blanks, after which a pass through the profiling head is carried out.

Equipment for rubber production processes

A complete production cycle is carried out by a whole group of machines and units that perform different tasks. The vulcanization process alone is served by boilers, presses, autoclaves, formers and other devices that provide intermediate operations. A separate unit is used for plasticizing - a typical machine of this type consists of a studded rotor and a cylinder. Rotation of the rotor part is carried out by means of a manual drive. Rubber production is not complete without cooking chambers and calendering units, which carry out rolling of rubber mixtures and thermal effects.

Conclusion

Manufacturing processes for rubber products are largely standardized both in terms of mechanical processing and in terms of chemical exposure. But even under the condition of using the same production apparatus, the characteristics of the products obtained may be different. This is also proved by domestic rubber, which offers different sets of performance properties. The largest share of rubber products in the Russian segment of the industry is car tires... And in this niche, the ability of technologists to flexible modification of compositions in accordance with stringent requirements for the final product is especially clearly manifested.

Rubber - elastic polymer material, a processed product of natural or synthetic isoprene or diene rubber.

The transformation of rubber into rubber takes place by vulcanization. In this case, linear polymer molecules enter into chemical reaction with sulfur, sulfide bridges are formed between neighboring molecules. The polymer acquires a spatial structure. By changing the structure, the elasticity, strength, wear resistance and other technological characteristics of the material are significantly increased.

Achieving the best possible combination mechanical and physical properties in the rubber-making process is known as optimum vulcanization.

Technological process production includes the following stages:

  1. formation of a vulcanization network,
  2. induction stage,
  3. reversion.

Depending on the required properties of the final product, various additives are introduced into the reaction mixture: soot, chalk, plasticizers, softeners. To improve the performance of finished rubber products, organic additives, in particular peroxides and oligoester acrylates, have been increasingly used recently.

Distinguish between cold and hot vulcanization. In the production of sealants, the method of cold vulcanization is used at a temperature in the range of 20 ... 30 degrees. Hot vulcanization is carried out at temperatures of 140 ... 300 degrees.

Various catalysts are used in the production of rubber, which affect not only the reaction rate, but also the quality of the rubber. Thiazoles and substituted sulfonamides are most commonly used in industry. Sulfonamides provide the product's solidity, thiazoles increase the material's resistance to thermal oxidative aging.

In addition to cold and hot vulcanization, there is a method called sulfur vulcanization, which is used in the production of rubber with increased wear resistance for the manufacture of tires and some types of footwear.

Industries of rubber use

Roughly half of the total rubber production goes to tires. The rest is used as different types insulation, for the manufacture of parts various machines and mechanisms, in the shoe industry, electrical engineering, production medical equipment, instrumentation, etc.

Useful recycled rubber products

Today humanity is able to reproduce to a large extent its needs for rubber. This potential is contained not just in waste, but in waste that has nowhere to go. Even resource-rich Russia is beginning to understand its benefits here.

Rubber crumb can be used to make quality coatings used in the most different locations, including in the country, playgrounds and sports grounds

Danger of waste

In the process of rubber production, oxides of sulfur, nitrogen, carbon, soot particles, resorcinol, ethylene, formaldehyde and a number of other aggressive and toxic compounds are released into the atmosphere.

Rubber waste, for example, old-fashioned car tires, insulation elements and other rubber products. As you find yourself on outdoors rubber gradually collapses, releasing in environment volatile components and heavy metals.

In places where there is a large accumulation of used tires, murine rodents and some insects that settle in the tire cavities are intensively multiplying. These animals are carriers of dangerous diseases and also cause direct harm to agricultural production and a number of adjacent industries. The largest amount of rubber waste is nothing more than worn-out tires, it is the largest-tonnage and voluminous waste that goes to landfills in the world.

Disposal methods for rubber products

In developed countries, more and more attention is paid to the development and improvement of technologies for the recycling of rubber products, in particular.

Slightly worn tires are repaired by retreading. Products unsuitable for repair must be disposed of in accordance with various technologies, which can be conditionally divided into 3 groups:

  1. Methods that do not affect physicochemical properties material. This is primarily a rough crushing of used products. The resulting crumb is to be buried or used as a filler for certain types of concrete, asphalt, or as a raw material for production rubber tiles and similar materials.
  2. Methods leading to partial destruction of the spatial structure of the material and partial destruction of rubber, which include the production of tire reclaim. The reclaim is returned to the tire production cycle and replaces part of the primary raw material.
  3. Thermal methods destruction of rubber. This group includes pyrolysis and combustion. A more progressive method of thermal utilization is pyrolysis, which makes it possible to obtain thermal and electrical energy, valuable components for chemical industry and minimize the amount of pressure on the environment.

The use of rubber products in various industries makes it possible to reduce the cost of the final product, reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, soil and water, and also reduce the energy intensity of the main production.
