DIY roller blinds from a tape measure. DIY roller blinds: a simple master class. Roller blind with a ready-made mechanism

Roller and Roman blinds

These types of curtains are similar only in the way they are mounted in the window opening and how they are used in the interior. The principle of operation and appearance are different.

Roman blind mount which is similar to the roll mount, similar to the roll mount in its appearance on the window. Both can be mounted externally window opening and inside it, as well as on the ceiling.

Usually rolled and Roman blind mount which happens right in window hole, require ideal flat surface opening. When installing curtains externally, it is possible to hide the shortcomings of recent renovations. Both take up minimal space, are practical, easy to dismantle and durable to use.

Their difference lies in the mechanism for raising and lowering the curtain fabric.

Qualitative making roman blinds provides for coordinated operation of the cornice with the lifting shaft, braid and control rope. This ribbon braid, fixed in a special way in the fabric, is raised using blocks.

If in a roller blind the fabric is rolled into a roll, completely hidden in the box when raised up, then making roman blinds involves gathering fabric into beautiful drapery folds.

How to sew Roman blinds yourself

These days there is a wide variety various types curtains Different styles exert their influence on certain models that are irreplaceable for creating an interior.

As you know, how many people have so many opinions. This well-known judgment also applies to choosing the style of curtains. When choosing from all the variety, the main thing is to decide what you want to achieve by choosing this or that model.

If practicality and aesthetics appearance is the determining factor for you, then pay attention to Roman blinds. They will perfectly protect you from prying eyes and will not create complete darkness in the room, allowing Sun rays, making the room bright, light and uncluttered. This great alternative classic curtains. This solution will bring freshness and novelty to your interior.

You can make such curtains yourself. To create them they are used various materials: from wood to textiles. In the following master classes we will look at options for curtains made of textiles. Roman blinds, following the instructions, you can create them yourself.

Master class No. 1

To create these curtains you will need:

  • 2 blinds
  • 2 yards of fabric (the amount of fabric depends on the size of the window)
  • Construction gun with liquid nails
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine

Often, the work uses a method without seams, and only special glue is used. But in order for your curtains to look neat and finished, you should lay a seam. You need to fold the fabric into two equal parts and fold the edges in half. Iron and stitch.

Now let's take care of the blinds. Remove all connecting parts.

Leave the inner center thread in place.

Remove the white circles from the bottom of the blinds and any slats. It should look something like this:

Let's take measurements. In this case, a fabric 108 cm long is used, every 18 cm constitutes a crossbar for future curtains.

Use a pencil and draw out all the measurements on the wrong side. Glue the crossbars along the lines. Use fabric glue.

Try to glue carefully, do not apply a lot of glue, because when it dries and hardens with outside lines from it may show through.

Straighten the material so that there are no wrinkles and then glue the crossbars, making sure they are level.

We secure the frame and pass the threads through the holes in the crossbars. In some places you will have to separate the fabric and glue, but this will not destroy the entire structure.

Attach the top of the blind to the fabric (you can use a liquid nail gun for this).

Glue bottom part, but first thread the thread through the holes and tie a knot.

Glue the dangling tails to the wrong side.

Almost finished, just left to close top bar cloth.

Take a strip of fabric of the appropriate size, trim the edges and glue it to the crossbar with liquid nails.

Ready!!! Quick and easy solution!

Step by step lesson #2

The next master class is an excellent solution, captivating with its originality. This window design will not leave any guest indifferent.

These are not real Roman blinds, just a convincing imitation of them, since they do not go down or up, but if you have no one to hide from and protection from sunlight is not a priority for you, then this solution is suitable for you.

You will need the following materials and supplies:

  • Textile
  • Fabric glue
  • Wooden crossbar
  • Self-adhesive paper
  • Printer
  • Construction stapler
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Measuring tape
  • Buttons

1: First we need to make an image that we will transfer to our curtains. Here is the stencil - download the PDF file.

2: Print on self-adhesive paper and cut out all the parts.

3: Cut the curtain fabric by adding 10 cm in width to the window width, and the length of the product is 2/3 of the window height. Since the product will be assembled, the exact length is at your discretion.

4: Tuck all edges of the product and iron. When folding, measure the width of the frill so that the edges are equal.

5: Tape all edges. While they dry, arrange all the printed parts according to your preference.

6: Iron all the pieces. Don't strive for perfection; it's not necessary here.

Tip: If you remove the paper before it cools, the image will turn out blurry. Allowing the paper to cool will give you a clearer design.

7: Tuck the short edge of the fabric around the wooden crossbar and secure with a staple gun.

8: Make folds as you wish, the length and number of folds is up to you.

9: Sew or pin the folds, if the fabric is heavy, do both steps.

10: Secure the product with nails or screws in place.

Voila!!! All is ready!!!

Master class No. 3

The next master class will take you some time, due to the labor-intensive manufacturing process.

You will need materials:

  • Tape (length depends on the size of your product, but minimum 2 spools of 5 meters each)
  • Curtain material
  • Threads to match the color of the ribbon
  • Sewing machine
  • Pins
  • Measuring tape

1: Unwind the entire spool of tape. Working from the middle (mirrored) will make the process easier. To find the middle, just connect the ends and straighten it out. Determine the center on the fabric and connect to the center of the ribbon.

Pin the tape at 15mm intervals. Go in two directions at once. Pin with pins strictly vertically.

2: Making the corners. Do not cut the tape under any circumstances, just roll it 90 degrees. In the place where the pin is pinned, you fold the tape back around it; if the pins are pinned horizontally, then a straight line is formed. Then you make a 45 degree angle, holding the angle and pulling forward, something like this...

Just pin this corner. Now do the same on the mirror side.

Now you see what you have to do. Each time you complete one corner, you go back and repeat with opposite side. Now measure an equal distance from the 45 degree corners to the beginning of the corners of the square. Again, make sure the pins are pinned straight as they are used to create 45 degree angles. Decide on the dimensions of the rectangular piece, paying attention to the symmetry of both sides. Lay out the ribbon the way you like and pin the corners.

Continue by creating a design something like this.

As you can see, one coil was not enough. Therefore, repeat all the steps with the second coil, on the bottom of the product.

Note: Make sure that the dimensions (location, length, and squares) of the top part match the design of the bottom part of the product.

Having finished with the “squares”, you form a frill around the perimeter of the product. Pin and repeat the same with the other part. Once you've finished pinning, it should look something like this...

Time to stitch, choose suitable color threads and forward. This will take some time as there are a lot of angles. You must remember that you cannot flash channels.

After the sewing work is completed, iron all the products, carefully straightening the tape, thread the plastic rods into the channels:

All work has come to an end, all that remains is to hang up your wonderful roller blinds and enjoy their stunning look.

roller blinds

You can sew them yourself. Roller blinds can also be installed on plastic windows in no time.

For work we will need the following tools and materials:

  • two pieces of fabric different designs– for the front and back sides of curtains
  • two wooden blocks as long as the window frame - one for fastening, the other for weighting the curtains.
  • ring screws – 5 pcs.;
  • hook screws – 3 pcs.;
  • cord;
  • scissors;
  • centimeter;
  • sewing supplies.

STEP 1. We measure the window frame and, according to calculations, cut out two pieces from the prepared fabric required sizes, leaving 3 cm of margin in width and 10 cm of margin in length for seam allowance.

We sew two pieces of fabric from the inside out, leaving one end unsewn. We turn the curtain inside out, finish it and iron it.

Roller blinds have a back and front side.

Let's choose which side of our curtain will hang to the wall and spread it on a flat surface with the front side down.

Now let’s sew “pockets” for the slats: to do this, we fold the edges of the curtain (3 cm on top, 1.5 cm on the bottom), stitch and insert the slats.

STEP 2. The top bar sewn into the curtain is fastening. Through the fabric, carefully screw two ring screws into it from above, and from the front side of the curtain - the other two ring screws. Let's step back 5 cm from one edge of the bar and screw another ring into it.

STEP 3. To roll roller blinds you need a cord.

Let's unwind and cut two cords - one equal to triple the length of the curtain, the second exactly the same plus another half the length of the curtain.

We thread the cords into the rings on the fastening bar.

It is important to remember that the longer cord should be tied to a ring that is located further from the common side ring.

STEP 4. We pass the cords along the back of the curtain, bring them to the front side, pass them again through the ring screws, bring them out through the common side loop and tie the cords together.

STEP 5. To hang roller blinds on plastic windows, you must first screw two hook screws into the frame. The main thing is that the hooks are exactly opposite the top of the rings on the curtain.

If we have completed this task, we hang the curtain.

You need to screw another hook screw into the side of the frame to wrap the curtain cord around it when it is rolled up.

The second option for roller blinds

Opening a roller blind

  • When calculating the width of the new curtain, you need to add approximately 2.5 cm from the sides, which will be used for hemming and processing of cuts. Before you start cutting, you need to measure the distance from the curtain rail to the window sill.
  • At the bottom edge of the roller blind there should be a drawstring for the rigid strip; therefore, when calculating the length, it is necessary to add approximately 5 cm to the bottom edge for the drawstring for the strip and 1.5 cm of fabric for hemming and processing the cut. To strengthen the upper edge, a rigid braid is attached to it.
  • If the edges cause the material to pull together at the edges, it is best to cut them off to avoid warping in the finished product. If you select for sewing curtains thick fabric, then when cutting, you should never tear it apart, as some impatient dressmakers do; it is better to use scissors for cutting. When the fabric breaks, the direction of the threads is distorted, and the finished curtain may turn out deformed. Curtains should be cut only in the direction of the fabric threads.

Sewing roller blinds

  1. Before you start sewing, you need to iron the hem on the product. If you do this before sewing, the processed edges will be clearer and neater, and the processing of the product will take much less time.
  2. To heat-treat the edges, you will need a metal pattern and an iron with a steamer. The side cut needs to be wrapped half a centimeter around the edge of the tailor's pattern and ironed. Carefully moving the pattern, iron the fold along its entire length, after which the edge of the curtain must be folded over the pattern another 2 cm and iron the edge again. The hem must be stitched on both sides of the curtain.
  3. The bottom edge of the product should be folded 2.2 cm along the edge of the metal pattern and ironed, after which the ironed edge should be folded one more time so that the bar can fit inside.
  4. The drawstring needs to be ironed, stitched and the strip inserted inside.
  5. Sew 2 ribbons to the top of the curtain.
  6. The top edge of the finished curtain must be attached using special brackets to top bar, iron the finished product and the curtain is ready.

Now you can hang your hand-sewn roller blinds on the window.

Roller blind without insertion into the bottom edge of the rigid strip

An alternative to blinds can be roller blinds. In the interior of the room they can be used independently, and as an addition to curtains. The main advantages of such curtains: ease of care, design variety, the ability to install on plastic and wooden windows, good fit, the ability to choose dense or translucent material. The canvas can be of different colors or plain. It is impregnated with a special liquid that has dust-repellent properties. In addition, the fabric does not fade in the sun. Roller blinds look elegant on windows and make the room cozy.

Today you can order such curtains without leaving your apartment or house. To buy roller blinds in Moscow, just call a company that sells and installs such products. A surveyor will come to your home with samples of materials and fabrics.

If you want to save money, then sew these curtains at home. The cut is so simple that any housewife can sew roller blinds, even those who do not have sewing skills. First you need to calculate how much material you need. The cuts should have the following dimensions: the length of the curtain is the height of the glass plus 5-15 centimeters (for the “bag” and allowances); width is the width of the glass plus 2-4 centimeters. That is, you need to know the width and length of the window (photo 1).

You will need these tools: sewing machine, corsage or thick satin ribbon, wooden beam(can be replaced with a metal tube), metal corners, paper clips, a furniture stapler, two wooden slats, screws, a screwdriver (needed for mounting the fastener), decorative buttons or snaps (photo 2).

The fabric must be chosen carefully. It’s good when it has special impregnations (antibacterial, antistatic, and also dirt-repellent). In addition, you can buy fabric with different light transmitting properties. For example, reflective or light-diffusing (Black-out or Screen). It can be fabric without a pattern or with a pattern, with a children's pattern, natural, jacquard. Suitable for baths polymer materials that can withstand temperature changes and high humidity. If desired, you can use thick linen or regular curtain fabrics. Such materials are cheaper and have dirt-repellent and antistatic properties (photo 3).

Next, the selected fabric needs to be spread on the table. Cut out. After this, the fabrics are stitched on both sides. It turns out to be a "bag". It needs to be turned right side out. Process the top edge and vertical sections. Also, iron the folds with an iron before stitching. A metal or wooden rod should fit freely into the folds (photo 4).

After placing the weight, iron the fabric and attach it to the bar using a stapler. If this metal pipe, by sewing. Then wrap the fabric around the bar. Attach the ties exactly like this. But both ends must be longer curtains. (photo 6).

The rod-shaft is attached to the frame or above the window opening. It is important to observe the installation level of the structure. In addition, two ribbons can be sewn to the curtains, as shown in photo 7. They are cut out and sewn separately. You can also use ready-made ribbons and decorative cords. Ribbon length: two curtain lengths + 15-20 centimeters.

Don't be afraid to experiment. When sewing such curtains, you can combine different fabrics, different textures and various options manufacturing. Use your creativity and then you will get a beautiful and original product.

Pursuing the goal of refreshing the interior, sewing new curtains will simultaneously demonstrate Creative skills housewives. A successful experiment would be replacing classic curtains with a current roller model. There is no need to be afraid of the complex lifting mechanism.

The proposed master class will help you create original roller blinds with your own hands. There are options for attaching textiles to windows without drilling. Further information will reveal the secrets of mastery.

Characteristics of roller blinds

Laconism and practicality - distinctive features roller blinds This model is especially appreciated in the kitchen interior. Curtains are designed to preserve space and not visually clutter the space. roll type in small rooms. Finished products are wound onto a shaft during assembly. There are three options for the location of the structure:

The advantages of interior design with roller blinds are as follows:

The cost of finished models, especially with a cassette design, is quite high. It is much cheaper to design roller blinds yourself. The principle of their operation is as follows:

  • The role of the cornice is played by a shaft, which is fixed above the window opening or directly on the frame. There is a canvas on it.
  • The material itself is held in place by ribbons or cords that are located at the top of the curtains. They allow you to adjust the degree of opening or closing of the roller blinds.
  • There are sewing options when several transverse “bars” limit the height of the product’s opening.

The mechanism for installing curtains without drilling is presented in the following video:

Preparatory stage: measurements, choice of fabric, related materials

Before you start taking measurements, you should decide where the curtains will be fixed and the model itself, whether it will cover the entire window opening or just the glass. The procedure consists of simple steps:

  • First, all window sizes are recorded.
  • The length of the product is determined by the height of the window with the addition of 15 cm for pockets and 2 cm for seam processing.
  • The width is equal to the dimensions of the window, which are increased by 2 cm.

An approximate measurement diagram is shown in the photo below:

The choice of fabric takes into account the desired degree of shading of the room.

Important! When mounted on window sashes, roller blinds are clearly visible from the street. Therefore, the material is selected with a double-sided pattern, or a cut is purchased whose length is twice the required size.

If roller blinds are intended for the kitchen, it is recommended to find an antistatic fabric that can repel dust. It is less susceptible to contamination, making textile care easier.

In addition to the material, for original curtains you will need:

  • Two slats, the length of which corresponds to the size of the window.
  • Furniture stapler.
  • Hook screws – 3 pieces.
  • Ring screws – 5 copies.
  • Strong tape or cord.

Self-production

There are several options for making curtains yourself; let’s look at the most popular ones.

Method 1

To create roller blinds with hooks, you need:

To place on a plastic window ready-made curtain without drilling, hook screws are screwed into the frame, which are placed in accordance with the location of the upper rings on the roller curtain strip. You will need to fix another hook on the frame, which will serve for winding the rope when the roller blind is rolled up.

Among the huge variety of curtains, roller blinds are of particular interest to consumers. The reason for this choice is quite compelling, in our small apartments It’s quite difficult to place not only cascades of heavy curtains, but even the most necessary furniture. Therefore, the issue of saving space is more than acute.

DIY roller blinds - photo

Roller blinds partially solve this problem, as they take up very little space due to their placement close to the glass unit. But the cost of this product is considerable, but making roller blinds with your own hands is not at all difficult. In this case, you can choose a material that matches your preferences in color and texture.

Types of roller blinds

In order to start making roller blinds, you need to understand what these products are. Essentially, this is a rectangular piece of canvas located in window opening or very close to it. Opening the curtains occurs by raising the fabric to the required height, while the material is rolled into a roll (hence the name).

There are the following types of roller blinds, differing mainly in the type of lifting mechanism design and installation method:

  • Roller blinds can be installed either on the wall using a curtain rod or on the frame itself. It doesn’t matter whether the window in your apartment is wooden or plastic. It’s just that in the first case, a block with self-tapping screws will be used to attach the curtain, in the second - double-sided adhesive tape. Roller blinds can also be mounted separately on each window sash.
  • Another difference is the location of the roller on which the fabric is wound; the roller can be located either at the top of the curtain or at the bottom.
  • In addition, roller blinds can be divided according to the functions they perform. For example, curtains made of thick, light-transmitting fabric are used to completely darken a room. And curtains made of openwork fabric will imitate stained glass or simply dim the light from the window.

An interesting option for additional registration rooms are roller blinds day-night, in which dense fabric is combined with transparent material in two layers. Depending on the time of day, you can use one or another canvas.

Step-by-step creation of roller blinds

Regardless of the type of roller blind, the manufacturing technology is basically the same: first prepare the fabric, then lifting mechanism. Therefore, we offer instructions on step by step creation roller blinds.

Choosing fabric for curtains. The best option would, of course, be a special material with protective layers, which not only practically does not become dirty, but also has antistatic properties and is resistant to fading and deformation.

Depending on where the curtain will be fixed, we measure the dimensions of either the window opening, the sash, or the window frame. From the fabric we cut out curtains of the appropriate size with an allowance of 2.5 cm at the edges and 15 cm along the length. In this case, each curtain has two stripes, for the front and back sides. If the window is very wide and it is not possible to make a curtain from one piece of material, we cut out the fabric so that the seam falls on the window frame.

We sew the front and back sides; to do this, we fold the pieces “face to face” and sew from the inside on three sides. Then we turn the fabric inside out, sew the rest of the curtain and carefully iron the seams.

Roller blinds with bottom roller

The easiest way to make roller blinds with a lower shaft:

Unfortunately, you will have to roll up such curtains manually and secure them with tapes.

Roller blinds on the cornice

More difficult option in production, but more convenient to use. Such roller blinds can be opened to any height, not manually, but using a counterweight system:

Raising the curtains is carried out by tensioning the cord, which is fixed at the required degree of opening of the curtain on the same hook.

How to install a roller blind on a finished mechanism?

Most effective option, but requiring some investment, install the curtain on a ready-made mechanism:

  • To do this, you need to purchase a special set consisting of a lifting mechanism, shaft and fastening, which is subsequently adjusted to the size of the window.

  • The bottom of the canvas is designed similarly to the previous options; one of the Velcro elements is sewn onto the top edge. The second part of the adhesive tape is attached to the shaft using double-sided tape or glue.
  • Brackets and a lifting mechanism are secured to the wall over the window opening, the curtain is secured to the shaft and rolled into a roll. The entire structure is installed in its normal place and the operation of the roller blinds is checked.

What might homemade roller blinds look like? Photo examples of ready-made options

As you can see, making roller blinds is not particularly difficult and can be done even by an inexperienced person. But here is the opportunity to create a worthy product of your own unique design really deserves attention. Below are options for roller blinds (photos and examples) that were made by hand:

Thanks to their convenience, style and originality, roller blinds - also known as roller blinds and blinds - are gaining popularity every year. Their production today is quite profitable, and modern market There is no shortage of them, but you can create a unique interior only by making unique curtains with your own hands.

Types of mechanisms and mounting options for roller blinds

The main element of any roller shutter is a round rod that collects the curtain into a roll, as well as a decorative chain or cord, the tension of which sets the roller in motion.

This mount is a bit like a blinds control system and has proven itself well.

To hold the fabric in a straightened state, a weighting agent is used, and to maintain the folded position, garters and other decorative elements are used.

Depending on the type of structure, the rod can serve as both a roller and a load if it is located below or attached to a frame or cornice.

Despite the same operating principle of all roller shutters, their designs can be equipped with various elements, designed to improve the appearance of the product and provide more comfortable operation:

  • magnetic or guide tapes are a practical addition that eliminates the occurrence of distortions and cracks when operating curtains;
  • a closed box that hides the roller - in addition to the aesthetic function, it also performs a protective one, protecting textiles from the accumulation of dust and various types of damage.

Roller blinds with closed box called cassette

Table: features of lifting mechanisms for roller blinds

Mechanism type The principle of adjusting roller shutters pros Minuses
ChainBy tensioning a cord, rope or chain thrown over a drum and attached to the bottom of the canvas. When the chain is pulled, the roller begins to move, straightening or winding the curtain. To hold the canvas in a fixed position, special holders are used - garters, clips, etc.Despite the simplicity of the mechanism, such a system is considered the most reliable and durable
SpringThe system is installed in the lower or upper part of the leaf and closes quickly when the spring straightens. The material is fixed in automatic mode and does not require additional manipulations with holders.Rapid wear of springs and the need for frequent replacementCan be installed both at the top and bottom of the window opening.
Electrically drivenThe canvas is rolled up due to the operation of an electric motor, which can be started either using a switch button or remotely. This system is especially relevant for high and large openings, as well as attic and ceiling windows.The easiest system to useThe most difficult to work with and the most expensive.

There are often situations when roller blinds are understood as Roman blinds. When closed, such curtains are really similar, however, when raised in roller blinds, the fabric is wound onto a shaft, and in Roman roller blinds it is gathered into horizontal folds.

The simplest mechanism for roller blinds can be made independently by using a round block of wood or a metal rod to create a roller, and adding a cord and fastening fittings. However, if you want to get more functional product, it is recommended to purchase a ready-made system and attach the fabric you like to it.

Suitable materials for making roller blinds

The most popular materials in the manufacture of roller blinds are fabrics: linen, polyester, nylon and cotton. No less popular are combined fabrics - polyester with the addition of viscose, cotton or satin, fiberglass and polyvinyl chloride with fiberglass.

All of the fabrics listed above are highly practical, easy to care for and durable. Big choice color solutions and ornaments allows you to choose a canvas that suits any interior. Special attention However, attention should be paid to the degree of transparency - while for the kitchen, living room and office it is preferable to use thin fabrics, thick curtains are more suitable for bedrooms.

It is important to take into account that when the canvas is unfolded, its reverse side is visible from the street side. That is why, when choosing a material, it is recommended to give preference to double-sided fabric or sew two fabrics into one.

According to the degree of darkening, fabric roller shutters can be divided into several groups:

  • translucent and transparent - satin, silk, cotton, which perfectly scatter the sun's rays, but do not darken the space well - good for protection from prying eyes on a sunny day;
  • blackout - an opaque fabric with a complete darkening effect - perfect option for bedrooms, home theaters, ceiling and skylights, since the material is capable of providing good conditions for relaxation even in bright sunlight;

    Blackout is often used to make curtains for living rooms, offices, restaurants, hotels, educational institutions

  • dimout - textiles with a medium darkening effect - retains 70% of light, therefore it is universal solution for the living room, nursery and bedroom;

    Such roller blinds allow diffused light to pass through during the day and provide complete darkness at night.

  • zebra (day/night) - a material with alternating transparent and matte stripes - allows you to control the degree of illumination of the room according to the principle of blinds.

    Initially, day/night roller blinds were developed specifically for plastic windows, but today they are also used to decorate wooden window structures

It is recommended to make roller blinds for the kitchen from fabric impregnated with a special compound to reduce the absorption of odors, grease and dirt. Fabrics with an antistatic effect that reflect heat and repel dust are well suited for residential premises. This material allows you to create air gap at the window opening, which retains the cold in winter and the sun's warmth in summer.

You can also make roller blinds from paper. Often used regular wallpaper, however significant drawback This material is fragile - paper curtains, as a rule, do not differ in durability.

Another unusual material option for roller blinds- wooden planks or thin bamboo strips. Not only do they not fade in the sun, but they also reliably protect the room from bright rays and are highly durable.

However, in a draft, the moving canvas will create quite noticeable noise, and its impressive weight requires especially reliable fixation of the structure. At the same time, wood cannot boast the same variety of shades and patterns as textiles.

This style of roller blinds is perfect for an apartment or private house decorated in a bungalow style.

How to make roller blinds with your own hands - step-by-step instructions

Creating a basic chain structure for roller blinds is not difficult even for a beginner if you follow the instructions.

From fabric

Textile - best option for self-production of roller shutters, because no other material has so many advantages.

The main thing is to choose the canvas so that it matches the type of room and the needs of its inhabitants.

The main material required for the manufacture of fabric roller blinds is the canvas itself. In order for the roller shutters to tightly close the window, its parameters must be measured correctly. The rules for taking measurements are as follows:

  1. The first step is to determine the area that the curtain will cover - the entire opening, glass or some part of the frame.
  2. To calculate the length of the fabric cut, you should add to the desired height of the curtain an allowance of 3-4 cm for processing the cuts and 15 cm for the “pockets” for the weighting material and the rod.
  3. To calculate the width of the roller shutter, an allowance of 3–4 centimeters is added to the width of the window to process the bends.

In addition to fabric, to make roller blinds you need to prepare:

  • future roller - an aluminum rod, a piece of cornice or wooden block with a cross section of 2.5–3 cm, while the length of the roller should be 1.5–2 cm less than the width of the canvas;
  • fastening - wooden slats with two metal corners or self-tapping screws for a wooden frame or double-sided tape for a PVC window;
  • a sewing machine and threads of a suitable color;
  • teasel tape or Velcro along the length of the bar;
  • metal/plastic rings and decorative blade retainer - satin ribbon or a cord 3 times longer than the curtain.

Step-by-step master class on making

The procedure should be as follows:

In order for the canvas to be collected into a roll, the rings need to be hung at a distance of 15–20 cm from the sides and 5–7 cm from the rod. This can be done using two narrow fabric strips, sewing them to the top of the product.

How to install

The method of installing the holder on the window depends on the type of frame. If we are talking about wooden window, then the structure must be fastened with screws or corners. For plastic windows it is recommended to use special plastic fastenings or double-sided adhesive tape.

To correctly place the product, you need to make proper markings: attach the bar to the future mounting location and check its location using a building level.

How to care

As a rule, fabric roller blinds are treated with a complex polymer impregnation, which allows the product not to accumulate static electricity and is easy to clean when rolled up. It should be remembered that special polymer preparations can be destroyed under the influence of hot water and change properties upon contact with chemical detergents, therefore it is recommended to wash such fabrics only under dry cleaning conditions. This procedure usually needs to be carried out twice a year.

Between washes, curtains should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner at least once every two weeks.

If no preparations were used to impregnate the textiles, then you can wash the roller blind as usual. The main thing is not to forget to take out the weighting agent.

From wallpaper

As you know, the price of good roller blinds in a store starts from 2,000 rubles, but the costs self-production their paper version unlikely to exceed 300 rubles.

To be fair, it is worth noting that the service life of paper roller shutters will be shorter, but even their annual replacement will not cause serious financial damage.

Made from wallpaper with an interesting texture and soft colors, these curtains look stylish

Required materials and tools

Before you start making paper curtains, you need to prepare:

  • wallpaper - new or leftovers;
  • meter ruler and pencil for measuring;
  • round wooden beam, cornice or aluminum rod;
  • mechanism for roller shutters;
  • metal plumb line or rail for weighting;
  • stationery knife or scissors;
  • double sided tape.

To correctly determine the required amount of wallpaper, you need to correctly measure the window: the width of the future curtain will be the same as the width of the window itself, and the length requires taking into account additional centimeters for fixing on the roller.

Step-by-step master class

The procedure required for making roller blinds from wallpaper is extremely simple and looks like this:
