And to his question: "What kind of glue to buy?" I began to explain for a long time what model adhesives are and how to use them. And so, I decided to post all my inventions here. So, there are several types of adhesives for models. They can be conditionally divided into several groups.

Polystyrene adhesives

This group includes, for example,model glue firms "Zvezda" or firms "Akan", as well as produce their adhesives and model firms with a worldwide reputation, for example, Revell and Tamiya.

This category of adhesives is the most common among prefabricated plastic model builders. These formulations are based on butyl acetate. Over time, polystyrene glue can thicken, you can return it to its previous consistency by diluting it with butyl acetate.

The principle of operation of this category of adhesive is based on melting the polystyrene surface, which will then be glued to another polystyrene surface. Subsequently, when the two parts are connected, both surfaces melt together and particles of matter penetrate from one half of the product to the other. Then, after the glue has evaporated, the melted surfaces solidify. The glued product can be used after a few hours, but for full readiness it is better to wait a day. The readiness time of the product also depends on the thickness of the applied glue layer. After complete drying, the product has very good adhesive strength. These adhesives have significant disadvantage they only glue polystyrene. For example, they are no longer able to glue plexiglass to plastic or to themselves. For these purposes, dichloroethane can be used. You can buy it in stores for radio amateurs. Such a 30ml bottle costs 30 rubles.

The substance is very toxic and harmful, but if you work with it carefully, then this glue is quite suitable for use. It is necessary when, for example, it is necessary to glue a lantern drawn from plexiglass to the fuselage made of polystyrene, or it is well suited for manufacturing by dissolving pieces of polystyrene in a liquid.Beginning modelers can recommend adhesives of this particular group for assembling their first plastic models. Superfluid adhesives.

This category of adhesives is characterized by increased fluidity and penetrating power. The principle of operation is the same as the above formulations. This glue works well in hard-to-reach places, you can glue cracks, etc. It practically does not leave marks on the surface of the model. This type of model adhesives dries quickly, so you need to work with it quickly. It is best to use a brush for ease of application. The composition is based on the same butyl acetate, so this substance can be used for work in the absence of a proprietary superfluid glue. And on sale you can find an inexpensive composition of the company "Akan" - superfluid model glue "Akan-profi".

Adhesive for transparent parts.

It is intended for gluing transparent parts. It often happens that during the installation of the lantern, as luck would have it, the glue flows onto the transparent part and the venture has to be removed and the part polished. To avoid such troubles, there is a special adhesive. Its principle is based not on melting parts, but in the use of a base, in liquid state she is muddy white which, when dried, becomes transparent. This composition is applied to the surfaces of the parts and after 10-15 minutes they are connected. Representatives of this category are Aqua glue for transparent parts by Akan or Micro Kristal Klear by Microscale.

Cyanoacrylate Model Adhesive (CA)

This group includes a large number of all kinds of superglues that are sold even in stalls.

It is based onCyanoacrylate, a substance obtained back in 1942. It glues very quickly and quite firmly, but does not hold the joint well in shear. The catalyst for CA glue is water; therefore, at high humidity, it hardens quickly and does not store well. Long-term storage requires conditions with low humidity and low temperatures from +5 to + 10 ° С. In a domestic environment, a refrigerator is suitable for this. The quality of the glue depends on its purity; the more cyanoacrylate and less impurities, the higher the strength of the product to be glued. This type of adhesives are used for gluing Resin Kits (additions to resin models), assembling all resin models, assembling photo-etched ones and gluing it to polystyrene parts of the model. It is also widely used in the construction or repair of radio-controlled models. It is very convenient in the field when repairing the model due to its quick drying and strong connection. Some modelers use cyacrine as a glue for plastic models. Cyacrine adhesives still differ in density, the thinner the glue, the faster it hardens.

Therefore, if you want to adjust a part or move it during installation, it is better to use a gel. There are also activators and retarders that allow you to speed up or slow down the process of gluing the product.When working with cyanoacrylate, you should try not to inhale its vapors, as they can irritate the mucous membranes. Skin contact may result in allergic reaction... Also, the danger is caused by contact of cyacrine with cotton fabric. When they interact, heat is generated, which can lead to burns or even fire. For the convenience of working with a large-capacity tube, you can put a syringe needle on the spout. With each subsequent use of cyanoacrylate glue, the needle warms up well, for example with a match or a lighter, and the substance is again ready for use.

Epoxy adhesives

The principle of their action is that the epoxy resin hardens under the action of a hardener, forming a strong connection of parts. This type of adhesives is well suited for the construction of radio-controlled models, their home repair, the manufacture of individual units and parts of the model, by molding them from fiberglass. Some epoxy resins allow you to make whole models out of them and clone parts. Use epoxy asmodel glue made of plasticwill not work, because because of chemical characteristics polystyrene, the hardened resin will not adhere to the plastic. Epoxy adhesives are well suited for models made of wood, resin and fiberglass, for mounting metal parts to the above materials. The curing time of epoxy glue depends on its type and brand, it can be from one hour to a day. Heat exposure reduces this time. Before starting use, you must read the instructions for use of a particular composition. This is how different epoxy adhesives are diluted in different proportions(resin / hardener). For example, EPD epoxy resin is diluted in a ratio of 1:10, that is, one part of resin (contents of a large bottle) accounts for one part of hardener (contents of a glass bottle).

But the epoxy glue "Moment" Super Epoxy is diluted in a 1: 1 ratio, that is, one part of the glue accounts for one part of the hardener. For the convenience of work, both tubes are made in the form of syringes, with which it is convenient to squeeze out the same number of formulations.

Adhesive for paper models

A separate type of modeling is paper and cardboard models. It has its own peculiarities in work, assembly and painting. For example, PVA glue is best suited for assembling such models. Usually it is a thick white liquid, practically odorless. To achieve the required consistency, PVA can be diluted with water. But if it has completely hardened, then, unfortunately, it is no longer possible to dilute it. Also, PVA glue can be used to glue wood or veneer, for example, when building bench wooden ship models. Before using PVA, it is necessary to thoroughly shake or stir, as over time, the composition delaminates.

All of the above adhesives, except for PVA, are quite toxic and must be handled in well-ventilated areas, avoiding contact with the mouth and eyes. But if this happens, they need to be washed immediately. running water and then it is advisable to see a doctor. On the other hand, with strict observance of safety measures, there will be no harm to health. Therefore, before using anyglue for models it is necessary to read the instructions for use and strictly observe the prescribed precautions.

If you are interested in creating plastic models (airplanes, cars, ships), then you are probably looking for quality plastic adhesive. After all, he must hold on well even on smooth surface and this is not always easy to achieve.

The purpose of the glue

When gluing parts of the product, the appropriate model glue is most often used as fasteners for plastic elements. With its help, you can easily make any fantasy of assembling an airplane from a variety of parts come true.

Anyone who wants to receive quality assembled model, as in the photo, tries to carefully finish and work out every detail. If a mistake is made when assembling any element, then the whole structure will look sloppy or become not stable enough.

Types of glue

So, you have purchased all the necessary plastic parts and spare parts for your future model, all that remains is to assemble it. What kind of glue for model airplanes should you choose?

Many craftsmen prefer Russian manufacturers. One of these is a special glue for plastic models called "Star", which is used to assemble products. But do not rush to immediately acquire the proposed tool, first decide on the type of material that your design consists of. This could be:

  • cardboard or paper;
  • resin parts;
  • plastic parts;
  • metal parts.

Now let's move on to the next step - we will decide on the means of fastening parts of the product from different types material. The model can be glued using the following types of glue:

  1. Polystyrene - designed for work based on melting plastic parts.
  2. Water based adhesives.
  3. Cyanoacrylic.
  4. Epoxy based products.

These are the most common options for fastening model parts by connecting them. Today, glue for plastic models is so common that it can be purchased at any specialty store.

Types of plastic products

There are a large number of firms engaged in the production of glue exclusively for plastic structures... The polystyrene type is perfect for assembling models. Such manufacturers as Zvezda, Tamiya, Italeri, Revell and others are actively involved in its release.

But they are all similar in their properties. However, depending on the density, it is customary to divide them into groups:

  1. Liquid - produced mainly in polyethylene bottles and have a special applicator that makes work easier. Examples: Italeri, Faller, Star, Humbrol, Revell, Auhagen, and Tamiya.

  2. Medium density - come in durable glass vials, the kit also includes a brush applicator on the cork.

  3. Thick - come in small tubes. The main advantage is that such glue dries much longer than others, which allows you to work slowly and not think about how to replace an unsuccessfully glued part.

As stated earlier, polystyrene glue acts on the principle of melting plastic. In other words, when applying the "Star" or other product, its smallest particles penetrate into the surfaces to be glued, and then harden, thereby adhering the plastic parts of the model. Finally, the parts dry out in a day, but use is possible after 60-120 minutes.

Revell glue manufacturers make special cans with a needle to ensure maximum ease of use. How to use it can be seen in the video. Tamiya manufactures brush cartridges. Thus, the bottle is able to help you out if you are dealing with cracks. But the adhesive from the company Zvezda does not include any other device in its kit to facilitate its use.

Other types

As for other glue options, their use when connecting parts of a plastic model is rather doubtful. For example, a tool designed to bond paper parts is not suitable for bonding metal or the same plastic. The same can be said for other types of adhesives. Therefore, when buying this material, it is better to once again make sure which glue for plastic models is right for you.

Work on a large-scale prefabricated model consists of a continuous connection between individual working stages - elements of construction and assembly. Just like an aircraft is created at an aircraft factory. First, one stage, then another. At the largest aircraft factories in the world (such as Boeing), the aircraft is generally located on a platform that continuously moves during assembly (from the beginning of the assembly shop to the finish line).

And if we want to receive a really worthwhile model - we need to strive to improve the efficiency of everyone individual element assembly process. After all, if one element is bad, then it is much more difficult to display the next ones as much as possible. If it makes sense at all.

Often, a large number of shortcomings are caused by insufficient elaboration of the previous stages.

For example, you can waste all your nerves by bringing out the joints of parts - glue seams, preparing the body of the model for painting. Often after such work, you will need to use a primer.

All of this could have been avoided initially qualitatively gluing the details. So that the joint turns out neat, connection durable, and the seam - unobtrusive.

BUT HOW TO DO THAT?

You will need to use different types of adhesives.

In general, until a certain time, I had no idea about the existence of different types of adhesives used in scale modeling. Habitually using the simplest basic type of glue. The one with which we glued the models back in the Soviet Union. And I absolutely did not pay attention to the rather rich assortment of model adhesives in online stores.

And only after looking closely at the work of Japanese modelers in the video materials of the Tamiya Custom company, I decided to look into this issue in more detail. Looked at what exactly they were doing. What adhesives are used and at what stages. Then I bought a little bit of all the glues. And he started experimenting.

Several models have been used up different manufacturers to accommodate differences in plastics. After all, for example, Italeri's plastic differs from Zvezdovsky. And at the same Revell.

It turned out that all adhesives have their own specialization. This significantly improves the quality and efficiency of work. You just need to know the features of the composition and use of each individual glue. And break the build process into appropriate elements in advance - subassemblies .

So, let's take a look at all types of glue in order. And we will start from the very beginning level.

Adhesive for plastic models: Regular composition
ADHESIVE FOR ASSEMBLY MODELS: CONVENTIONAL

This type of glue is known to every modeler, because the introduction to the creation of prefabricated plastic scale models begins with it. As a matter of fact, up to a certain point, this type of glue was in the everyday life of modelers. Much later, Japanese manufacturing companies introduced other specialized types of glue into their assortment.

In the Soviet Union, later in Russia, the majority of modelers (especially average modelers who collect models from time to time) use only it in their work for all their many years of practice.

Therefore, this type of glue can be designated as universal standard .

Its main components are butyl acetate + polystyrene. Bonding is achieved due to the combined effect of two types of action.

The first is the partial dissolution of the plastic on both glued surfaces. When we connect the surfaces to be glued together, and then leave to solidify, the dissolved plastic mixes with each other, connecting the edges of the parts together. As a result, a “solid, single piece". The joint is solid, durable. Ready for further processing.

This effect is also called welding effect .

The second is additional bonding of parts with polystyrene particles that are part of the glue. They reinforce the molecular bonds in the dissolved plastic, helping to form a new solid compound.

The peculiarity of using this type of glue is that it is applied to the surfaces to be glued before joining the parts. Those. you must first apply glue to each surface to be joined. And only then put them together. For a better course of the gluing process, it is required to give time to the glue to dissolve the plastic of each part separately. Wait 1-2 minutes. And only then connect the parts.

WORKING CHIP

While working on a model, many modelers have to deal with the situation of a thin, shallow notch in place of the glue line. This is possible when the surfaces are not sufficiently prepared and the edges of the parts to be glued have an angle other than 90 degrees.

In order not to have such troubles after drying, bordering on the use of putty, you need to proceed as follows. During gluing, it is necessary not only to connect the parts, but to press firmly against each other. Press one part against another. As a result, the molten plastic will come out. After fixing the parts in this position, leave them to dry. Then just remove the excess plastic from the joint surface with a model knife. And that's all - the glue seam has an excellent shape that does not require additional processing.

There is one condition here. You need to practice in advance on unnecessary details. Different plastics from different manufacturers have differences in their structure. Therefore, the same pressure force can cause completely different effects. Overdoing it with pressure can easily ruin the details of the model.

Here, as always, caution and accuracy are important. And preliminary preparation

ADHESIVE FOR ASSEMBLIES: SUPER FLUID

In general, the name of this type of glue should sound like "glue with increased capillary effect". It is a liquid adhesive with a very high penetrating power, good volatility, high fluidity, without a consistent filler (adhesion is achieved by partially dissolving the plastic on the surfaces to be glued).

The main advantage of this type of glue is the possibility of penetration - flowing into the joint between folded parts ... In other words, while working on the model, you connect the parts together, brush with glue along the joint. And it, due to its high fluidity, independently penetrates into the joint. The action of this glue is fast. The welding effect appears very quickly. You won't have to wait long for gluing and hardening.

This adhesive is often supplied in containers with a built-in brush. But if you use Akan Profi glue, you will need a brush. A regular brush, preferably synthetic. One or zero.

Another interesting feature of the high-flow glue is that when it hits the surface of the plastic, it practically leaves no traces when solidified. It evaporates quickly, leaving behind a hazy, rough surface. Which is not critical for further staining, and does not require a primer.

I would like to say a separate word about the Akan Profi glue. It also belongs to the category of highly fluid. But working with it involves a high degree of caution. He - " nuclear". It not only easily penetrates the plane of the junction of the parts, but also very actively dissolves the plastic. If you pour this glue on a surface with potholes and irregularities, it will cope with the task of leveling cleaner than putty. He very good dissolves plastic. Tested on Itala and Zvezda.

Also, when applying it, you must be careful not to spill it on the model. Pro only in very small doses does not leave fingerprints. Even a medium-sized droplet can be enough to form a molten notch.

For a long time I could not get used to this glue, but I liked its power. Therefore, I experimented further. Then, having found out its features of application in practice, made it the main working glue in the process of assembling models.

Generally, on this moment, high flow adhesive is essential for me while working on the model. Whether it's Akan Pro or Tamiya ExtraThin Cement. I use ordinary glue only for joining large parts.

ADHESIVE FOR ASSEMBLY MODELS: TRANSPARENT

In general, having considered the above types of glue, one could stop. Indeed, thanks to them, we will be able to achieve solid results. But that would be wrong. There is another very specific type of glue.

T. n. "Transparent glue". Its representative is "Contacta Clear" from Revell. Its sole purpose is to bond transparent parts. Both with each other and with the plastic of the model itself. In fact, this is a kind of all the same universal glue. Only there is no welding effect. Bonding is carried out due to the base, which becomes transparent when dry.

The glue is applied in a thin layer to the glued surfaces of both parts. Then it should be allowed to dry for about 5-10 minutes (so that the glue layer is still sticky). Then gently squeeze the parts to be glued together.



Adhesive for plastic models: Cyanoacrylate universal adhesive
ADHESIVE FOR ASSEMBLY MODELS: CYANOACRYLATE

Cyanoacrylate glue, better known as "superglue", which is the Russian translation of the Super Glue trademark. This name in the former USSR has become a household name.

Super Glue was first obtained in 1942 (during World War II) by the American chemist Harry Coover, who worked for Eastman Kodak, during experiments to find transparent plastics for telescopic sights. However, the substance was rejected due to excessive stickiness. In 1951, American researchers, while searching for a heat-resistant coating for fighter cockpits, accidentally discovered the property of cyanoacrylate to firmly adhere various surfaces... This time Coover appreciated the possibilities of the substance, and in 1958 superglue went on sale for the first time, "blowing up" the market.

In Russia, superglue is also sold under the brands "Claybury", "Power", "Cyanopan", "Skley", "Secunda", "Monolith", "Elephant", "Super-moment", etc. In the USSR, the glue was produced under the name " cyacrine ".

Adhesives based on cyanoacrylates can easily withstand loads of 150 kg / cm2, and more advanced ones, such as "Black Max" by Loctite - 250 kg / cm2. The heat resistance of the joint is low and comparable to the heat resistance of acrylic plexiglass: from 70-80 ° C for conventional adhesives, up to 125 ° C for modified ones.

Cyanoacrylate is a strong, fast-setting, instant adhesive. Easily bonds non-porous and water-containing materials. It sets in less than a minute and reaches maximum strength in two hours. However, its shear strength is not high, so superglue is sometimes used as a thread lock or for fixing a workpiece on a lathe.

In large-scale modeling, cyanoacrylate, due to the property of gluing structures completely different in their properties, also found its place - it took its own niche. We use it to fix photo-etched products and conversions made from epoxy resin.

We often use super glue purchased from print stalls or hardware stores. At the same time, the range of manufacturers of model chemistry has long included specialized cyanoacrylate model adhesives. Although, in essence, their difference is only in the special packaging, which is convenient for the work of a modeller - a scaler. So there is not much difference between them. And what to use - everyone decides for himself, based on personal preferences.

It is worth considering that super-glue has two types of consistencies - regular and gel-like. The second is thicker, jelly-like. It facilitates the application of the adhesive exactly to the gluing points, avoiding sagging.

ADHESIVE FOR ASSEMBLY MODELS: EPOXY

Finally, it is necessary to mention two-component epoxy adhesives.

Their main property is that, when mixed with a hardener, epoxy resin obtains a strong and very strong connection of parts. But, in my opinion, they have not found wide application in the field of modeling using plastic prefabricated models.

This glue is suitable for wood and fiberglass models, wire parts, photo-etched parts. But it is contraindicated in polystyrene models, since epoxy resin cannot adhere to plastic.

Epoxy two-component adhesives also available in two versions - regular and modelistic. One of the most interesting forms of packaging for conventional cyanoacrylate variants is the Contact adhesive. The shape of the tube allows you to squeeze out both resin and hardener from two sections in equal proportions in one stroke. They are automatically mixed in the outlet. Of the special modeling options, I only know of Tamiya's glue.

This adhesive for model airplanes, cars, ships sets very quickly. For ease of use, it is recommended to use a synthetic brush.
  • The glue is transparent. Designed to work with transparent parts. The fastening of the parts is carried out not due to the welding effect, but due to the base, which becomes transparent when dried. The mixture is applied to the surfaces of the parts for 5-10 minutes, and then joined.

Superfluid adhesives.

This type of model adhesives dries quickly, so you need to work with it quickly. It is best to use a brush for ease of application. The composition is based on the same butyl acetate, so this substance can be used for work in the absence of a proprietary superfluid glue. Adhesive for transparent parts.

It is intended for gluing transparent parts. It often happens that during the installation of the lantern, as luck would have it, the glue flows onto the transparent part and the venture has to be removed and the part polished. To avoid such troubles, there is a special adhesive. Its principle is based not on melting parts, but in using a base, in a liquid state it is dull white in color, which, when dried, becomes transparent. This composition is applied to the surfaces of the parts and after 10-15 minutes they are connected. Representatives of this category are Aqua glue for transparent parts by Akan or Micro Kristal Klear by Microscale.

Cyanoacrylate Model Adhesive (CA)

This group includes a large number of all kinds of superglue, which are sold even in stalls.


It is based on Cyanoacrylate, a substance obtained back in 1942. It glues very quickly and quite firmly, but does not hold the joint well in shear. The catalyst for CA glue is water; therefore, at high humidity, it hardens quickly and does not store well. Long-term storage requires conditions with low humidity and low temperatures from +5 to + 10 ° С. In a domestic environment, a refrigerator is suitable for this. The quality of the glue depends on its purity; the more cyanoacrylate and less impurities, the higher the strength of the product to be glued. This type of adhesives are used for gluing Resin Kits (additions to resin models), assembling all resin models, assembling photo-etched ones and gluing it to polystyrene parts of the model. It is also widely used in the construction or repair of radio-controlled models. It is very convenient in the field when repairing the model due to its quick drying and strong connection. Some modelers use cyacrine as a glue for plastic models. Cyacrine adhesives still differ in density, the thinner the glue, the faster it hardens.


Therefore, if you want to adjust a part or move it during installation, it is better to use a gel. There are also activators and retarders that allow you to speed up or slow down the process of gluing the product. When working with cyanoacrylate, you should try not to inhale its vapors, as they can irritate the mucous membranes. Skin contact may result in an allergic reaction. Also, the danger is caused by contact of cyacrine with cotton fabric. When they interact, heat is generated, which can lead to burns or even fire. For the convenience of working with a large-capacity tube, you can put a syringe needle on the spout. With each subsequent use of cyanoacrylate glue, the needle warms up well, for example with a match or a lighter, and the substance is again ready for use.

Epoxy adhesives


The principle of their action is that the epoxy resin hardens under the action of a hardener, forming a strong connection of parts. This type of adhesives is well suited for the construction of radio-controlled models, their home repair, the manufacture of individual units and parts of the model, by molding them from fiberglass. Some epoxies allow you to make whole models out of them and clone parts. Use epoxy as model glue made of plastic will not work, since the cured resin will not adhere to the plastic due to the chemical properties of polystyrene. Epoxy adhesives are well suited for models made of wood, resin and fiberglass, for mounting metal parts to the above materials. The curing time of epoxy glue depends on its type and brand, it can be from one hour to a day. Heat exposure reduces this time. Before starting use, you must read the instructions for use of a particular composition. This is how different epoxy adhesives are diluted in different proportions (resin / hardener). For example, EPD epoxy resin is diluted in a ratio of 1:10, that is, one part of resin (contents of a large bottle) accounts for one part of hardener (contents of a glass bottle).


But the epoxy glue "Moment" Super Epoxy is diluted in a 1: 1 ratio, that is, one part of the glue accounts for one part of the hardener. For the convenience of work, both tubes are made in the form of syringes, with which it is convenient to squeeze out the same number of formulations.


Adhesive for paper models

A separate type of modeling is paper and cardboard models. It has its own peculiarities in work, assembly and painting. For example, PVA glue is best suited for assembling such models. Usually it is a thick white liquid, practically odorless. To achieve the required consistency, PVA can be diluted with water. But if it has completely hardened, then, unfortunately, it is no longer possible to dilute it. Also, PVA glue can be used to glue wood or veneer, for example, when building bench wooden ship models. Before using PVA, it is necessary to thoroughly shake or stir, as over time, the composition delaminates.

All of the above adhesives, except for PVA, are quite toxic and must be handled in well-ventilated areas, avoiding contact with the mouth and eyes. But if this happens, they must be washed immediately with running water and then it is advisable to consult a doctor. Mode of application: You must first apply glue to both parts, wait a couple of minutes to dissolve a thin layer of plastic and then connect the parts by pressing them firmly together. If the parts are not pressed against each other, a groove may form at the seam. And when pressed, the molten plastic will squeeze out and after hardening it can be easily removed with a knife.

I used "Plastmaster" glue and "KAV-Models" glue in my work - wonderful chemistry, they stick well.

Glue "Plastmaster" does not smell and looks more like superfluid glue. "KAV-Models" has a light and pleasant smell like from childhood. (before there was no model glue and you had to make it yourself from acetone). The glue dissolves the plastic a little and the parts are welded together. I use it for gluing large parts.

I'm using Tamiya Lemon Superfluid Adhesive. More like the smell of an orange. The smell is not harsh and does not interfere at all. Glues well. I use it as the main wash glue.

Cyanoacrylate glue - known to everyone as "SuperGlue".

Cyanoacrylate is a strong, fast-setting, instant adhesive. Easily bonds non-porous and water-containing materials. It sets in less than a minute and reaches maximum strength in two hours. However, its shear strength is low.

There is a branded adhesive from Tamiya - Tamiya 87062 Tamiya CA Cement... The glue is certainly good in a convenient package with buttons around the edges that help in accurate dosage applied glue. The glue adheres quickly and very firmly. I use it when working with photo-etching. The main disadvantage is that, when not in use, the tip of the tube freezes and is very difficult to pick out. And this glue costs a lot.

You can buy cyanoacrylate glue at any store. Household tubes are much cheaper, and the quality should be no worse.

On occasion, I bought several tubes of different "Super Glue".


Applied to the right "Lefan", it takes a little longer than Tamiya glue. But in the end it turns out very strong. And even if the glue in the tube dries up during storage, it's not a pity, because is not expensive at all.

Recently I have been using "Universal glue", which is in the center of the picture. I bought it in a magnet. I bought 5 pieces at once. It will always come in handy in everyday life.

But I also tried it for gluing plastic and photo-etching. So - Cool glue! Fluid, conveniently dispensed from a tube, firmly glues parts and does not dry out. After application, there is time to remove the excess with a cotton swab and there will be no marks on the surface. And this glue costs 16 rubles.

I will no longer buy Tamiya's cyanoacrylate glue, because it is expensive, dries up as soon as you close it, the dosage is not particularly convenient, it is more ponty and is very expensive. Better buy 20 tubes in magnet

Mode of application: I would recommend trying the parts on to each other before gluing, and perhaps some practice in quickly and neatly joining them. And then applying glue quickly, but gently press the parts together. Be careful not to get glue on your fingers. Otherwise, the parts will stick to you as well. While using Cyanoacrylate glue when working with photo-etching, I have derived several laws:

2. If the necessary parts are glued quickly, evenly and neatly, then one of the parts is glued upside down.

3. If, before gluing, you were convinced of the correctness of the parts, then glue only after the third attempt, crooked and sloppy.

Two-component epoxy model adhesive

I have an ordinary epoxy adhesive for home improvement.


A colleague-modeller Dmitry Ignatychev in his blog mentions epoxy glue "Contact", and I found glue of the UHU brand. The UHU brand produces many useful things for modelers, for example Office plasticine.

    • The glue is transparent. Designed to work with transparent parts. The fastening of the parts is carried out not due to the welding effect, but due to the base, which becomes transparent when dried. The mixture is applied to the surfaces of the parts for 5-10 minutes, and then joined.

The kit does not include any accessories to facilitate the work with the composition. The glue quickly penetrates into the parts and sets. Fully hardens within 24 hours. If it is over, and there is no new packaging at hand, you can mix the foam and the solvent, you get a glue similar in properties.

It is presented in several versions. Perfectly holds plastic together, does not leave stains when dry. The jar is stable, equipped with a brush for application.

The composition can be applied to each part before gluing, or you can first connect them and apply a little glue, which itself, due to its high fluidity, will spread along the joints. The company offers a traditional version and a lemon-scented glue.


Mixes for modeling "UHU"- good fastening of plastic parts, as well as plastic with metal, leather, paper. They work according to the method " cold welding", That is, the composition of the glue for the models of this manufacturer ensures the dissolution of the upper layers of plastic.

It is presented in several options with different packaging. There are both jars with brushes, tubes with a needle tip, ordinary bottles with a lid.

Models of any complexity are made of plastic - airplanes, ships, cars. High-quality glue for this material should not spread over a smooth surface, so it must be carefully selected.

There are many manufacturers producing adhesives specifically for plastics. So, you can safely use polystyrene compounds from Revell, Italeri, Tamiya, Zvezda. Despite the similarity of properties, they can be divided into three groups:

  1. Liquid - sold in plastic bottles with a convenient applicator.
  2. Medium density - presented in glass jars with a brush on the lid.
  3. Thick - packed in tubes. They freeze the slowest, so they allow you to work slowly.

After being applied to the parts, polystyrene mixtures penetrate and harden, forming a strong bond. You can use the glued parts in an hour, but the product will finally set in a day.

Revell adhesives for plastic products are sold in cans with a needle, Tamiya equips cans with a brush, but Zvezda adhesives are delivered to stores without additional tools.

  • do not add too much mixture to the junction of the parts, you run the risk of staining the hands, the tool and the parts themselves with the resulting surplus,
  • if a drop hits the part, do not try to wipe it off, wait for the composition to dry and sand this area,
  • liquid glue should not get under the masking tape, otherwise, after completing the work and removing the film, you will find that the plastic has "floated" under it,
  • the junction with super-glue turns out to be brittle, so it is better not to touch it, you can additionally degrease it,
  • follow the instructions for use indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging,
  • use the products strictly for their intended purpose and only for those materials for which they are intended,
  • when working with toxic compounds, it is recommended to use protective gloves.

Model adhesive

In model stores there is a fairly large assortment of glue for models from different manufacturers and for different types of work. At first, it is quite difficult for a beginner to understand this variety. Hopefully this article based on personal experience, will be useful for novice fans of modeling.

As a rule, everyone first buys glue for the "Star" models. This glue has two advantages: it is available in all model stores and costs a penny. This is where the pluses end and after a very short time the glue from the bottle turns out to be spilled, at best, on the table, at worst, on the carpet. the shape of the bottle is designed for just that. In general, try it - you won't like it. :)

This model glue is our everything! Perfect for gluing PS-plastic from which the models are made, practically leaves no traces on the surface of the model. Glue can be applied to the joints of the parts before gluing, or first join the parts and then just gently apply a small amount of glue to the joint. Due to its good fluidity, the glue itself will spread along the joint and reliably wet the surfaces to be glued. In general, they are a pleasure to work!

Tamia has two types of such glue, lemon scent (in fact, it smells more like orange) and traditional (green label). I chose glue with perfume (it is a little more expensive), so as not to give unpleasant sensations to my household.

As practice shows, this amount of glue will last for a very long time, the consumption is minimal. The glue is very economical.

It has a thicker consistency and a thicker brush. For the rest of the characteristics, the same high-quality glue.

I use it in those cases when it is necessary to practically "weld" one part to another. Although, liquid glue copes with this task just as well.

Somewhere on the forums I read that this glue can be diluted and get the exact same liquid glue as Tamiya Extra Thin, only forgot what. In the same way, there is an analogue of glue without perfume.

Cyanocrylic adhesive


Cyanoacrylic adhesive Super Moment... 3 gr.

Sold in any supermarket in a package of 3 grams and under different brands... It is used when you need to glue sheet metal parts, photo-etched parts or any other materials other than model plastic. For example, all tin parts were glued with this glue. In model online stores, there is a specialized glue for models based on cyanoacrylate. In fact, this is the same glue from the supermarket, only several times more expensive, I see no reason to buy it.

Super-glue sets instantly, which is a disadvantage in our business, because it is impossible to correct the position of the bonded parts after they are connected. The part glued with this glue is easily peeled off if you apply a certain amount of force, so you need to be careful.

For convenience, I use an empty pill box. I squeeze a drop of glue into the "cup" and apply it to the glued surface with a simple toothpick. It turns out very neatly and economically.

It is important to remember that cyanoacrylate vapors are quite poisonous and it is better to work with it in a ventilated area. Well, try to keep your nose away from the place of gluing, which does not always work :)

PVA


PVA-based glue is sold at any supermarket or office supply store. In its original form, it is an opaque white liquid. But, when dry, it becomes almost transparent. The degree of transparency, as I understand it, depends on the cleaning of the glue. In general, most of the specialized transparent glue for models is well-cleaned PVA. How to use model glue correctly

Not worth pouring a lot liquid glue in the joint of parts, the result will not get better, but the likelihood that it will flow under the fingers or tweezers with which you hold the part, and they will leave an annoying imprint on the plastic, is greatly increased.

If you accidentally "blurted out" glue on the model, do not try to erase it, make it worse! It is better to let it dry well, and then carefully sand the place where the glue got into, in this case, the "destruction" will be minimal.

Make sure that the liquid glue does not flow under the masking tape, he loves it and as a result, when you remove the tape, you will have a surprise and a section of "floated" plastic.

The place where the super glue is glued is rather fragile. A little effort and the part flies off. Be careful. It is advisable to degrease the place of gluing, it will hold much better.
