The best ways to make a decorative brick wall out of stucco. Textured plaster for walls: a spectacular transformation of the surface How to make a rough wall

Today, people are increasingly striving to equip their homes in an original way, avoiding platitudes and clichés. In this sense decorative coloring walls is a rather interesting solution: it is possible to create incredible textures, artistic images and color combinations. Shops abound with goods for every taste. Therefore, without much hassle, you can decorate the interior in style, even without professional design training.

Need to clear work surface. Often there are traces of old paint, whitewash, wallpaper glue. They all have different chemical composition, substances interact with each other in different ways, and if you still want to re-paint the walls, this may adversely affect the final result.

Preparing the surface for painting

In some cases, previously pasted wallpaper cannot be removed from the wall - then it is advisable to use an alkyd primer. It is recommended to dilute it with white spirit in a ratio of 1 to 3, mix thoroughly, apply to problematic areas of the walls.

One more important point concerns the removal of dirt, oil and grease stains, fungus (fungal infestation is typical for rooms in old buildings, as well as in conditions of high humidity). Treat oil stains with acetone or pure gasoline. Simply apply a little to a dry, lint-free cloth and wipe the areas where you see greasy dirt.

Examine the wall for old cracks. Most likely, they will also be found. Prime cracks with as dense a substance as possible, preferably finely dispersed and with high adhesion. The most common materials are cement or gypsum, or a mixture of both. Apply the solution after wetting the cracked areas with water (this way you maximize the adhesion of the “native” material of the old wall and the primer).

What paint to choose

The choice of paint is useful to start long before you get into the process closely. It is not very reasonable to grab the first thing that comes to hand at the very last moment from the store counter. In addition, you must definitely try the properties of the purchased paint somewhere in a separate place.

What is it for:

  • see how it dries (does it leave cracks, quickly or slowly, does it change its original color);
  • find out if the paint will emit a pungent odor (sometimes manufacturers write that the paint is neutral, but in fact it turns out that the paint contains sharply smelling fractions - for living rooms this is unacceptable);
  • make sure that the paint consumption corresponds to that indicated on the package (this value is very arbitrary, because you can never determine with absolute accuracy how thick the layer you apply and how much substance will go per unit square area).

Attention! When buying a product in a store, do not forget to look at the expiration date and expiration date, so as not to buy expired paint with changed characteristics.

It should be noted that decoration through painting can be done in two ways:

  • using a special textured paint (the option is more expensive, since such paint has a high price, although it is worth it!);
  • using ordinary wall paint, but combining different colors (in the form of stencils, patterns).

The consistency of wall paints is quite liquid. When applied, there are no lumps, furrows or sagging. Painting is usually carried out in several layers. The exception is the use of a spray gun. With its help, it is possible to evenly paint over every centimeter, but in most cases it will be manual work. The brush and roller are your tools.

Attention! Apply the paint only on a completely dry surface - after all cleanings, primers, etc. Otherwise, you will have defects after the new paint dries.

Observe uniformity in the speed and amount of paint applied. Start with those sections of the wall where it is planned to place wall furniture in the future, hang a panel or carpet, where there is minimal illumination.

This is necessary in order to possible defects were not as noticeable as in the most central places. Apply each next layer after the previous one is completely dry.

Attention! Apply the very last, final layer in the direction of the light rays falling on the surface.

decoration

Buy at the store or make your own stencils. Suitable material for:

  • thin sheet plastic;
  • a piece of thin linoleum;
  • thick oilcloth, etc.

The point is that the shape does not collapse after a few strokes with a roller or brush. If this is not taken care of in advance, the edges of the form will become uneven, and the applied pattern will have a blurry outline.

stardust effect

A simple and at the same time interesting design technique: “specks” are applied to the dried surface with paint of a different color. To do this, you need to take a rough brush with a hard bristle, dip it into the paint, wring it out carefully, and only then “splash” it in the right place: bend the bristle in the opposite direction, and then release it. Practice in advance somewhere else to achieve the desired quality.

The decoration is very original when you paint the walls in one color, but in a different color - separate sections or different walls the same premises. Perhaps it will be large rhombuses or squares, stripes, circles, stains. Draw a design on paper in advance and act based on the picture.

aging effect

Another name is stippling. On a plain surface, apply glaze in a contrasting color. Use a wide flat brush for this. Without waiting for it all to dry, repeatedly touch the surface with the same rough brush (or take a rough round brush). Spread the "touches" either completely over the entire surface, or zoned. As a result, an original texture is formed, and no traces of brush stains will be visible.

Attention! The same can be done not with a brush with a brush, but with a rough dry sponge. The main thing is that the mechanical intervention should be performed in a certain style (the same nature of the touches, their more or less uniform frequency).

Pattern effect chaos or abstraction

Make a simple roll with a "torn" coating. It will help you apply finely divided wall paint so that irregular shapes appear on the walls. Naturally, the applied layer should differ in color from the main one.

You will need:

  • acrylic primer;
  • vinyl paint in two shades;
  • mother-of-pearl azure;
  • decorative paper.

The procedure is priming and painting, applying paper and wrinkling it, painting again, removing excess paint from the folds of the “skin”.

Applying textured paint

By characteristics textured paint very close to textured plaster. But the paint is more “thin”, and therefore more plastic. Its use gives a stunning effect - exquisite surfaces that will please the eye for a long time with an exclusive decor.

Due to what the relief is obtained:

Additionally, you can ennoble the coating as follows. After it dries, apply ordinary paint of a contrasting shade to the main layer with a soft brush, and not everywhere, but in some places - you get an original, chic decor. Some craftsmen use not even one, but two or three contrasting colors, applying them in a special cascading way. If you want the same, be sure to train in advance, because without skill it is unlikely to succeed.

Advantages of textured paints

The industry of modern finishing materials provides the widest field for a bold experiment. You are not limited in anything, and you do not need to be specially trained, to acquire any specific skills. Enough embossed painter and experimental courage in artistic decoration.

Textured paints, although they are more expensive than the usual "smooth", but have a number of undeniable advantages:

Such a wonderful product is ready to use, and even the most unprepared decorator can work with it.

The use of textured plaster is very popular not only for the design of building facades, but also structural elements indoors. Each specific case of using the material involves obtaining an exclusive pattern. In addition, textured plaster for walls inside and outside the room creates an environmentally friendly, durable, moisture-resistant and durable surface.

With the help of textured plaster for walls, you can create amazing effects: wrinkled leather, silk, or concrete slabs.

Textured mixture for walls is a heterogeneous viscous mixture of white color, which contains various fillers connected by a certain binder. Pebbles, ground brick, mica, gypsum, fine-grained sand, wood and cotton fibers are used as additives. It is the type, quantity, size and color of the particles, as well as the application technology that determine the appearance of the finishing material. The price of textured plaster for walls depends on the type of composition and manufacturer.

Using given material you can create a surface with a different level of graininess, with a rough structure, three-dimensional reliefs, imitate stone, wood, velvet or leather. The mixture is applied to any surface and allows you to hide all existing wall defects.

Depending on the binder, acrylic, silicate, mineral and silicone textured plasters are distinguished. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, they all have basic distinguishing features:

  • ease of application, which does not require professional skills;
  • the elasticity of the material, which allows you to form an attractive and unusual surface;
  • does not contain toxic substances;
  • antistatic coating;
  • fire resistance;
  • high surface resistance to mechanical stress;
  • resistance to UV rays and moisture;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • increased vapor permeability;
  • the material creates good sound and thermal insulation;
  • The surface is easy to clean and wash.

The technology of applying textured plaster

To get a neat, high-quality and durable surface, work should be performed in a certain sequence:

  1. Preparatory work.
  2. Basic stage.
  3. Creating an invoice.
  4. The final stage.

For preparatory work you need a primer paint brush, putty, sandpaper.

The list of necessary materials for finishing work:

  • metal and rubber spatulas of various sizes;
  • trowel;
  • rule;
  • grater;
  • level and plumb;
  • rollers, brushes, paint;
  • masking tape;
  • various textures.

Preparation of walls for decorative plaster begins with their cleaning from the old coating. The surface must be even. Use putty to seal all cracks and crevices. Before plastering the walls inside the premises from aerated concrete, foam concrete, brick, the installation of a reinforcing mesh is required, which will prevent the finishing material from cracking and crumbling after drying, but will create good adhesion of the plaster and the base.

Many types of plaster do not require prior alignment of the walls. If the surface has significant irregularities, they should be eliminated with gypsum, lime or cement-sand mixture by doing the plastering of the walls on the lighthouses with your own hands, applied in several layers. It is worth considering that it may take about 24 hours for one layer to dry. The use of a cement-sand mixture involves the installation of a reinforcing mesh for wall plastering.

To install beacons, it is necessary to hang the walls horizontally and vertically using a level or plumb line and identify all deviations from a flat plane. Lighthouses are fastened with self-tapping screws. To determine the thickness of the plaster layer, the thickness of the lighthouse is added to the most convex section of the wall. If the wall has minor errors and irregularities, you can do the plastering of the walls with your own hands without beacons.

Useful advice! If leveling the walls turns out to be too costly and complicated, it is recommended to use gypsum boards.

The leveled surface is primed twice. For the best effect, a deep-penetrating composition should be used, which will create good adhesion of the plaster to the base. Acrylic primer does this job well. Next, you should dry the wall well before applying the facing material.

If finishing work is carried out in a room with a high level of humidity, the surface should be treated with an antifungal compound, which will create additional resistance to the negative effects of moisture.

Carrying out the basic stage

The basic stage is the application of a decorative mixture, which can be done in several layers. The consumption of plaster per 1 m2 of the wall is 1-2 kg of material. With multilayer coating, this figure increases.

Textured plaster, the price of which starts from 700 rubles, can be in the form of a dry powder, where it is necessary to prepare a working solution for wall plastering by adding a certain amount of water, or in ready-made. Any texture has a traditional White color, which can be changed with the help of special dyes. For rooms with high humidity, dyes on a moisture-resistant basis are used.

A small amount of the mixture is spread over the trowel with a spatula. Next, using a tool attached to the wall at an angle of about 30 degrees, the mixture is applied. The material should be applied to small areas, since it seizes rather quickly. However, in working condition, it is very malleable, which allows you to create any pattern on the surface. The layer thickness must be at least 3.5 mm, which includes a layer about 1.5 mm thick to create texture.

Particular attention is paid to the corners. Here the plaster is applied with a narrow spatula and stretched over the surface.

Useful advice! Before applying textured plaster to the wall, a test application of the mixture should be carried out in order to “feel” the material, select the layer thickness, and try to create a future pattern. This will help avoid mistakes.

Methods for applying decorative plaster

Today there are many various options obtaining a unique pattern on the treated surface. It all depends on the type of plaster and the technology of its application.

There are two options for obtaining a decorative effect:

  1. The formation of patterns with the help of various tools and the use of textured plaster with varying degrees of graininess in its composition. This option is cheaper. In addition, you can make textured plaster with your own hands. A video of this process will help to study the technology.
  2. Application for decorative plaster with applied ornament. In this case, to obtain a clear pattern, the roller is once carried out along the entire length or height of the wall. You can also use a regular roller with various nozzles (wrap with a rag, paper, film), which can be rolled in different directions on textured plaster. Then, with a spatula, you can slightly smooth out the sharp corners.

To obtain a drawing or ornament, you can use a ready-made stamp by attaching and pressing it to the plaster. You can buy it or make your own. In order for the impression to be clear, it is necessary to regularly clean it of plaster and moisten it with water. To finish the drawing on narrow sections of the wall, you can use a soft version of a stamp made of rubber. The use of an imprint will allow to reduce the consumption of finishing material.

On the surface of the wall, you can create an imitation of stone, leather or fabric. Using a trowel or trowel with teeth, you can create a coating under wild stone. Using a brush, you can imitate fabric. To do this, it is necessary to apply a thin single-layer coating with a brush in a vertical or horizontal direction, or by turning it like a compass.

Important! When creating a drawing, you should not go deep to the very base of the wall, as some fragments may fall off the wall after drying.

When using a mixture with fine fractions, you can use a wooden grater to create an ornament. Moving the tool up and down, you can get the effect of "rain", with horizontal friction, an imitation of a tree is obtained. When moving the grater in a circle, you can get the effect of "lamb".

Popular relief textures of textured plaster in the interior. Photo examples

One of the most budgetary options is the application of textured plaster with the effect of a "fur coat". This can be achieved by throwing the solution through the mesh, spraying with a brush with a long pile or a broom, walking over the plaster layer with a roller with a short fur coat or applying the mixture with an air gun.

The most popular is textured plaster with small granules, which creates the texture "". The mixture with a spatula or trowel is applied to the wall with a thickness of 3-7 mm, depending on the size of the inclusions. After the surface dries slightly, it is necessary to process it with a grater in any direction, scratching the surface, thereby imitating a pattern.

An equally interesting option is the application of decorative traventine plaster, which imitates natural stone masonry or aged stone walls. The mixture is applied in two layers. To decorate the surface for masonry, special grooves are made using improvised tools.

Useful advice! If you perform wide strokes, you get a calm pattern, small ones - a more saturated pattern.

The technology of applying Venetian plaster requires a certain skill. The prepared wall should be perfectly even and smooth. The material is applied with a polished trowel in a thin layer with sharp short movements. It is necessary to apply 3-10 layers, where each of them is polished for a more pronounced marble effect. At the finishing stage, it should be done with a trowel, which is rubbed over the surface with effort to give it a noble sheen and glossy texture. After the surface is partially dry, it must be polished with wax.

When applying this mixture, which includes marble dust or sand, a marble effect is created on the surface of the wall. If instead of lime, as a binder, is used acrylic resins or other polymers, you can achieve the effect of leather, silk, suede, mother-of-pearl or velvet, as clearly shown in the photo of the interior of the room where Venetian plaster is used.

«

Another complex, but giving an amazing result, is the technology of applying textured sgraffito plaster. The essence of the technique is to apply several layers of plaster to the surface of the wall. different color. Using a special stencil, a drawing is applied in the topmost layer of all applied. The ornament that appears looks like a fallen shadow or appliqué.

The “map of the world” technique is performed with plasters with effects in the composition: pearl tint, mother-of-pearl, metallic or decorated with rubbed paint. The first layer is applied to the surface of the wall, which after 20 minutes is rolled with a roller to obtain a small fur coat. After the surface has completely dried with chaotic masks, the second layer is unevenly applied using a trowel. Between strokes of the second layer, the surface of the first should be visible. After drying, the surface must be rubbed, smoothing out all contrasts and transitions.

Final stage

After finishing all work on applying the plaster, the surface should be allowed to dry completely and harden. This will take at least 24 hours. Next, you should treat it with a fine sandpaper to remove excess solution. Then the surface should be primed.

If the walls were plastered for painting, the surface should first be painted in a darker tone with a roller or brush with a long pile, and after drying, cover the protruding parts of the textured surface with light paint using a roller or brush with a short pile. A light tone will add volume to decorative plaster. If the finished texture already contained a coloring pigment, you can simply highlight the texture with a different shade.

In the case of applying textured plaster in rooms where the walls are subjected to mechanical damage, the surface should be covered with a colorless varnish or wax, which will increase the service life of the coating without losing its original appearance.

Received, as a result of competent finishing with textured plaster, the surface will not only have an attractive appearance, but will also become practical and unpretentious in further operation. It is easy to clean and wash without the use of special detergents. Finishing lacquer coating prevents the formation of mold and fungus on the wall surface, even in rooms with high humidity.

Varieties of textured plaster with their own hands

There are many options for preparing textured plaster from ordinary putty with your own hands.

by the most simple option many masters consider the use of lime mortar for plastering walls, which can be bought from 215 rubles, or made independently with the addition of cement, gypsum, sand or clay. Each component is added in a certain ratio. For a simple lime mortar for wall plastering, the proportions of lime paste and sand are 1:2 -1:5. The more lime, the cleaner the surface will be, but the likelihood of cracking will increase. If gypsum is added to this mixture in a ratio of 1: 3, a stronger composition with high adhesion can be obtained. In the case of adding cement in a ratio of 1: 2, you can get a mixture that is suitable for facing rooms with high humidity.

Useful advice! To speed up the setting of the material, in addition to the lime-gypsum mixture, PVA glue can be added.

To create a mixture based on gypsum, you will need:

  1. 2.5 liters of water.
  2. 6 kg of plaster.
  3. 1 kg of marble chips to obtain relief on the surface.
  4. 200 ml of PVA glue to give the material elasticity.
  5. Dye.

This mixture is suitable for any surfaces indoors. However, the base should be pre-primed and a reinforcing mesh should be installed for plastering walls made of bricks, aerated concrete and foam concrete blocks. The consumption of gypsum plaster per 1 m2 of the wall is about 9 kg with a layer thickness of 10 mm.

For cooking cement plaster it is necessary to mix cement and sand in a ratio of 1:3-1:6, depending on the required strength of the material, and then use water to bring the solution to the correct consistency.

Useful advice! To give the mixture elasticity, you can add 1 tbsp to a bucket of the finished solution. l. detergent.

When deciding which plaster is better than cement or gypsum, one should take into account distinctive features of each option, from which it will become clear that the gypsum mixture outperforms the cement one in some respects. It has high hydrophobic and adsorbing properties, which affects the creation of a favorable microclimate in the room. Having a high viscosity index, the gypsum mortar turns out to be more plastic, it is more convenient to apply and sets quickly without cracking, which significantly reduces the finishing time. But, it is worth considering that gypsum is susceptible to moisture. However, today there are compounds in which special substances are added, which make the mixture durable and moisture resistant.

Useful advice! If you are not completely sure how to plaster walls with gypsum plaster, video instructions experienced craftsmen on the Internet or on specialized sites will help and clearly demonstrate each stage of such work.

Wall plaster cement mortar used for trimming wooden surfaces, walls made of sawn shell rock, drywall and previously plastered, uneven walls. For work, special tools are used, for example, a trowel, as a rule, a grater and a floor ter, which after use must be thoroughly cleaned of excess cement.

How much does wall plastering cost?

correct and quality finish walls is an important part of a good renovation. Having previously learned how much plaster costs 1 sq. m. walls, you can decide to finish the walls yourself or invite specialists. But, it should be remembered that all the features and subtleties of finishing work, which are performed by expensive decorative mixtures, are known only good master. Therefore, in order to avoid mistakes, it is better to entrust this process to a competent specialist who has extensive experience. Especially when it comes to Venetian, Italian, silk, terrasite, artistic or author's embossed plaster.

Wondering how much it costs square meter wall plastering, it is necessary to study in detail the prices for services offered by many construction organizations, and choose the most appropriate option.

The price per square meter of wall plaster depends on several factors:

  • surface geometry for plastering (marking, installation of beacons, leveling the base);
  • type of base on which the facing mixture will be applied;
  • type of decorative plaster;
  • method of applying textured plaster.

If the walls are pre-cleaned of the old finish, then it will not be necessary to spend money on dismantling the plaster from the walls, the price of which starts from 100 rubles / m², depending on the type of old finish, layer thickness and overall labor intensity of the work.

Today, the price of wall plaster per square meter of wall is on average 550 rubles, when using cement plaster. Work with decorative textured plaster will cost between 350-850 rubles / m². Covering with a relief mixture will cost 850-950 rubles / m². Cost of work with Venetian plaster will average 750-1350 rubles / m².

Wall cladding with textured plaster is a responsible and painstaking undertaking that requires minimal skills. To get an aesthetic and durable coating, you should choose the right finishing material, prepare the base and correctly plaster the walls in compliance with all the rules and recommendations.

Application of decorative plaster. Video instruction

It will quickly lose its original appearance, and will have to again. To save time and money, it is better to immediately align the walls with high quality. What is the best way to level the walls and how to carry out all the work?

Roughness assessment of the wall surface

All methods of leveling walls are divided into two fundamentally different groups.:

One way or another choose, taking into account the degree of unevenness of the walls so this step is especially important. How uneven the walls can be measured laser level or the usual building level.

Sequence of work looks like this:

  1. wall surface preparation. In order for the leveling compound to hold, the wall must be properly treated. First, all remnants of the old coating are removed, then priming is carried out for better adhesion with a layer of plaster. Under cement compositions use a primer from a solution, and water, the so-called cement milk, it is better to use a special one for gypsum plaster;
  2. if the plaster layer is more than 2 cm, then at this stage it is better to use reinforcing plaster mesh , which will not allow the composition to crumble. It is worth noting that if you use a ready-made factory plaster mixture, then you should pay attention to the composition: some manufacturers use polymer additives, which increase the strength and degree of adhesion of the solution so much that the mesh may not be needed;
  3. installation of beacons. As beacons that become the landmark of creation flat surface, use wooden slats or perforated metallic profile. The latter will be more convenient for beginners, since such beacons will not have to be removed after the plaster layer has slightly hardened and then mask the recesses. First, two beacons are mounted at opposite ends of the wall, while, and the beacons are fixed with a gypsum mortar of the required height until ideal verticality is achieved. Three cords are stretched between the two beacons received: at the top, in the middle of the wall and at the bottom, and already focusing on them, intermediate beacons are installed so that they lightly touch the cord. The step between the beacons depends on the size of the tool that will be leveled plaster mixture(usually a rule is used for this). In any case, the distance between the beacons should be 20 cm less than the length of the instrument;

  4. in a wide range can be found in construction stores. On the construction site it remains only to properly prepare the solution, following the instructions. cement plaster mortar can be prepared independently: cement and sand are mixed in a ratio of 1: 6, then water is added to a creamy consistency. Some experts recommend adhering to the ratio of components 1:2 or 1:3, ready mix It turns out more plastic, and therefore easier to handle. The finished solution is used for 1-2 hours until it begins to solidify;
  5. plastering. To do this, you can use the "falcon" and a trowel. On the first one they collect the mixture from the container, on the second they throw it on the wall in excess. The use of a “falcon”, a tool similar to a trowel, but larger than it, allows you to increase the speed of work. Now you need to evenly distribute the solution from the bottom up, relying on the beacons. If the leveling layer is thick, then you can first apply a rough outline of the plaster, and after it dries, apply the main one with alignment along the beacons. If wooden slats were used as the latter, then when the mortar dries a little, they must be carefully removed, the cavities filled with plaster and leveled with a spatula;

  6. after the plaster has dried, we get a smooth, but rough surface. In order to make it smooth, you need to apply thin layer of putty, and then sand the surface fine sandpaper .

The main advantage of this alignment method is the maximum preservation usable area rooms. The disadvantages are the laboriousness of the process, the need to prepare the base and the presence of a large amount of dust.

No. 2. Leveling the walls with putty

However, do not forget that this method of leveling the walls takes up a lot of usable space, and if it is already in short supply, then the room risks turning into a hole. Walls sheathed with drywall sheets will be able to withstand less load than those that have been lined with plaster. If we are talking about a room with high humidity, then moisture-resistant drywall sheets should be used.

Sequence of work:

  1. frame construction.
    It may consist of or a metal profile. The beam does not allow to achieve the desired durability of the frame, it is subject to the influence of moisture and microorganisms, therefore, in most cases today they are used guide and rack metal profile.
    The first two profiles are attached to the floor and ceiling.
    On the floor, using a level, draw a straight line at a distance of 5-6 cm from the wall (more is possible if the curvature is large or communications need to be hidden).
    Using a vertical plumb line, the line is transferred to the ceiling.
    Guide profiles are fixed along the lines obtained with self-tapping screws, constantly checking the evenness of their level with a plumb line. Between them, perpendicular to them, load-bearing profiles are attached along the wall with the help of. The distance between them is 40-60 cm for drywall sheets 120 cm wide;

How to make an exclusive repair and at the same time save money on materials? One of the most interesting ways to decorate walls is to apply decorative plaster. But is it possible to create complex textures, patterns and drawings on the walls without buying expensive materials and without mastering complex construction techniques? It turns out this is pretty easy to do. You can use the most common gypsum putty.

Advantages of using decorative plaster in the interior

Receive interesting options the texture of the decorative surface of the walls, using a simple putty is not difficult, it is enough to turn on the imagination and not be afraid to experiment. Moreover, gypsum mixtures, both ready-made and dry (which are prepared independently), have excellent adhesion. They fit perfectly on brick, foam concrete, drywall, plaster. Special additives that manufacturers add to mixtures do not allow gypsum plaster freeze quickly.

Additional coating of decorative plaster with varnish will provide a longer service life and the possibility of wet surface treatment in case of contamination.

Gypsum putty can be colored even before work begins. Applying multiple colors or shades can provide amazing visual effects. It is possible to paint decorative plaster after application. There are several ways to process textured surfaces, each of which will create a unique color.

Keeping everything technological processes and having “stuffed” a hand a little, everyone will be able to create an author's unique pattern on the walls of his apartment.

special positive quality gypsum mixtures is their ecological purity, because its main component of natural origin is gypsum. Putty does not absorb odors, allows walls to breathe, does not cause allergic reactions does not emit any toxic substances.

Decorative plaster from a gypsum mixture, made correctly, will last for a long time. In terms of durability, it will compete with decorative stone or ceramic tiles.

Caring for decorative plaster is quite simple. Its only drawback is the relative fragility. Therefore, in nurseries, where children play outdoor games, they may not carefully move a chair or hit the wall with something, such a coating is not recommended. To make sure that the breakaway part is not visible is quite difficult. Unless you hang a small picture on top.

How to make a mixture for decorative plaster?

Putty for decorative plaster is used both starting (coarse-grained) and finishing. It is up to the master to decide which putty to take, since the result of the work will to a certain extent depend on the structure of the mixture.

There are already ready-made combs on sale. Their structure and consistency are optimal for application. However, they are quite expensive. Considering that several layers of coating are needed to perform decorative plaster, the cost of the material will be high, and it is unlikely that it will be possible to save money.

It is easy to prepare a working solution from a dry gypsum mixture on your own. Pour some water into a plastic bucket and, gradually pouring in the dry mixture, actively mix the solution with a drill with a mixer. So we bring the composition to the desired consistency, at which it will be convenient to work with it. The manufacturer indicates the relative proportions of water and dry mix on the packaging.

If, according to the design concept, a colored coating is necessary, we make decorative plaster from putty using pigments. You can take dry powder or liquid colors, and add as needed during the preparation of the solution.

The composition of decorative plaster may include solid particles (sand, marble chips) and soft particles (for example, foam). With their help, a variety of grooves and depressions are formed on the decorative coating.

Application of decorative plaster

Before proceeding with the coating, it is necessary to prepare a tool for working with decorative plaster. For this you will need:

  • spatula (regular, serrated and with rounded edges);
  • rollers (with pile, fabric, rubber stamps and stencils and other devices);
  • graters, a set of grinding nets or sandpaper;
  • building level or rule;
  • improvised materials (fabric, pieces of paralon, newspapers, maple).

The technology of applying decorative plaster includes several stages:

  • the preparatory stage includes the primary processing of the walls and their alignment;
  • applying the base layer;
  • creating an invoice;
  • final processing.

1. Surface preparation

At the first stage, it is necessary to clean the surface of the walls from old coatings, remove old wallpaper, paint, peel off parts of the plaster and other parts that do not adhere well. Next, you should embroider and putty all the cracks and potholes.

The first layer, designed to level the surface, is recommended to be applied on a pre-primed surface. The primer, penetrating a few millimeters deep into the base, glues and strengthens the surface, allowing the putty layer to more firmly adhere to it.

After checking the plane of the walls with a building level, we apply a leveling layer with starting plaster and let it dry well. The next day, when the entire layer has become absolutely dry, we clean the surface from large irregularities. This can be done with a wide spatula. Before applying the next layer (textured), it is recommended to prime the surface again.

2. Applying a layer of decorative plaster

It is not necessary to prepare a mixture for decorative plaster. Since the thickness of this layer should be no more than 3 - 5 mm (depending on what texture will be applied), it will be necessary to empirically calculate such an amount so that the composition does not change its density during work, and all manipulations can be carried out in time directly on the wall.

To obtain the desired structure on the applied putty, use the most different ways. They are not limited to commercially available rollers and ready-made stencils.

Consider some ways of applying patterns and textures:

1. Roller with pile

Most simple fixture for applying the texture of decorative plaster - is a regular roller with pile. Rolling with such a roller over a freshly applied layer of putty, the master creates a rough surface. If the “pile of putty” is easily smoothed with a spatula, you get a completely different pattern.

After drying, sharp areas of putty must be cleaned. To do this, easily go over them with a spatula, sandpaper or a special abrasive mesh.

2. Roller with stencil

In hardware stores you can find rollers with a variety of patterns. The stencil leaves an imprint on the putty applied to the wall. For the successful use of stencils, certain rules must be observed:

  • the putty layer should be as uniform as possible so that the depth of the print does not distort the overall picture;
  • you need to roll with a roller all the time in the same direction;
  • the smoothness of the print will be possible only if the roller is constantly washed with water - this is the only inconvenience when working with such a tool.

3. Spatula

Using ordinary spatulas for puttying, serrated tiles for laying tiles, trowels and similar tools, the master can create the most unique patterns. The only limit is fantasy.

4. Materials at hand

If there are no standard tools for creating decorative plaster at hand, you can use a wide variety of available tools for this purpose. Ordinary kitchen sponge, brush, newspaper, plastic bag or oilcloth, pieces of fabric or paralon wound on a wallpaper roller can be successfully used for creativity in creating a unique decorative finish.

Ways to create an invoice

Consider some of the most simple and popular ways to apply decorative plaster using various spatulas and improvised materials.

1. "Scales"

To create a texture that will imitate fish scales on the wall, you need a small trowel, but you can also use ordinary spatulas of different sizes.

Method 1. Apply a layer of plaster to the wall surface. Starting from the ceiling, make small semi-circular movements with a trowel or spatula, pressing in and removing a little putty.

Attention! You can not tear through the layer to the very foundation. It must be remembered that there is a minimum allowable layer thickness that will hold well and will not crumble in a short time. For starting putty(plaster) this minimum is 3 mm, and for finishing -1 mm.

Method 2. Take the solution on the spatula and apply with semicircular movements from top to bottom, gradually blocking the previous strokes. They can be made of the same size in a checkerboard pattern (it will look like scales) or of arbitrary size and randomly, without adhering to a strict order.

In this way, not all the walls in the room are usually covered, but a certain zone is allocated, a panel is made.

2. "Fur coat"

For a long time forgotten way decorative plaster, which was used by our parents for facing houses, is found in the inner decorative trim new life. The process of applying a "coat" of putty will also be different.

To create such a coating, it is necessary to apply a layer of putty on the wall with a thickness of about 3 mm. You don't have to worry about smoothness. Next, we place a thin oilcloth on fresh putty (you can take large garbage bags), smooth it and lightly press it so that it sticks tightly to the surface. The next day, carefully remove the film. A lot of small wrinkles, tubercles and grooves will remain on the putty.

3. "Flowers"

You can make an abstract pattern in the form of roses on the surface of the walls using a piece of newspaper and a bag. We take an unnecessary newspaper and crumple it into a small ball, wrap it with a thin bag on top. Thus, a kind of stamp will turn out. We press the impromptu tool to the freshly applied putty and get an amazing print that looks like a flower. We repeat randomly.

4. Algae

Attach a rubber band to a foam, rubber or wallpaper roller (you can use a thick rope). By rolling it over a fresh layer of putty, a pattern will be obtained that imitates algae. Move the roller in the same direction, for example, from the bottom up, as the putty will follow the roller a little. After drying, you need to remove the protruding parts of the relief with a spatula.

5. Feathers

Dressing the walls in light feathers is quite simple. To do this, you need a wide rubber spatula, cut with small teeth along the working edge. Apply a layer to the wall finishing putty up to 3 mm thick. With wide curved and wavy strokes in any direction, apply the pattern to the wall. It is necessary to cover the entire surface without gaps. For more believability, orient the strokes relative to the guide lines that will act as the pen's spine.

6. "Furrows"

Using a masonry comb ceramic tiles, we execute relief surface on a fresh layer of putty. Putty is applied in a layer of about 3 mm. It is convenient to use the start putty mixture. We carry out vertical, horizontal or inclined stripes in any order you like.

In a similar way, by turning on the fantasy and trying it out in practice, you can make a wide variety of patterns, up to artistically designed bas-reliefs. But it is not enough to make a unique texture from putty. Without additional processing any three-dimensional pattern will simply be lost on the surface. You need to think in advance about the method and color of painting.

Painting

Decorative plaster looks best if there are different shades or colors. There are several ways to give a textured surface a variety of colors.

Attention! Before painting, it is necessary to remove the protruding parts from the surface of the decorative plaster with a spatula. Also, if possible, remove dust and small particles of putty.

1. Removing excess paint.

This method provides beautiful overflows of shades of the same color. minus this method is overspending paint.

We apply paint over the entire surface with a hair roller and roll it well, trying to cover the entire surface without gaps. Paint must be applied quickly so that it does not have time to dry. On a fresh layer, we carry out a damp bath sponge, removing excess paint. It remains more in the recesses, and less on the hills.

2. Removal of a dry layer of paint.

To highlight the texture of decorative plaster in this way, you should perform the following steps: paint the entire surface with a roller in the selected color and wait a day. With a spatula, we "scratch" on the convex parts of the plaster, removing excess paint that has already dried. Thus, a convex structure stands out, amazing patterns are formed.

3. Coloring in several layers.

This method can be successfully used when the decorative plaster is quite small or strongly protruding. First of all, the entire surface is covered with a base color using a roller or brush. After drying, we carry out with a roller slightly moistened with paint of a darker or light tone, on the surface of the invoice.

4. Coloring putty before application.

This method is appropriate to use for the treatment of small areas, since, by coloring the putty with colors, it is very difficult to achieve the same shades in different batches. It is also used when performing "Venetian plaster".

To decorative surface, made of putty, was more durable, after painting it must be applied protective layer. To do this, prepare a mixture of wallpaper glue and panel varnish (glaze). By tamponing, the mixture is applied to the surface of the wall. From above, after drying, everything is covered with acrylic varnish.

Or dilute water-based varnish in a 1: 1 ratio with water so that it penetrates better into the putty and is applied in two layers.

How decorative putty plaster is made is presented in the following video. It clearly shows the process of working on decorative coating And final result application of imagination in practice.
