Indoor bamboo. Nice ideas and care. Simple and neat bamboo furniture with your own hands What to make from the remains of bamboo

Bamboo, an amazing evergreen representative flora, belonging to the family of cereals and traditionally associated with Asian countries, due to its incredible growth rate (up to 75 cm per day) is popular and available material in a wide variety of production processes. In this article we will tell you what is made from bamboo and show how the same plant can be used in absolutely different areas- from building houses to making clothes.

Bamboo as a building material

In regions where bamboo grows, it has been used as a material for dwellings for a long time. V ancient China it was also used to build the first engineering Communication- connections of tubular shafts were a water supply system for irrigation of fields. Due to the fact that the stems have different diameters, it is quite simple to assemble such a system without any special tools.

It is possible to make almost any of bamboo building construction: walls, roofs, stairs, rafters, window and door frames... In the manufacture of flat surfaces, the stems are fastened together by tying, weaving or otherwise. Of course, a bamboo house built using this technology (pictured) differs from one built of wood - due to round section individual elements they are not tightly adjacent to each other. Therefore, this method is used today mainly for non-residential buildings, where, first of all, the embodiment of the traditional flavor is required: cafes, restaurants, gazebos, recreation facilities in resort areas.

Modern bamboo Construction Materials most often they are boards or panels. Since the stem of the cereal has a tubular shape, sawing it lengthwise to obtain ordinary timber will fail. In this regard, when working with bamboo, methods of gluing and pressing individual strips of a plant into plates are used, which are then shaped and varnished, as a result of which elements such as in the picture are formed. They can be used as decoration materials for walls, ceilings, floor coverings... Bamboo boards have a lower density compared to wooden boards, which is why structures made of such a material are lightweight.

Another way to use bamboo in construction is as concrete reinforcement. The technology of assembling roofs from this plant is also interesting: the stems are cut lengthwise, and the resulting tube halves are stacked in two layers, as shown in the photo. The result is a slate-like structure.

And they also make from bamboo beautiful wallpaper with many original textures (pictured). Such wall coverings are strips obtained from the cuts of the top layer of the plant, specially dried, matched by color and applied to a woven base.

And of course, a wide variety of furniture and interior items is made from bamboo.

In Asian countries, bamboo is still used as a material for the manufacture of rafts and boats. Derived from intertwined stems and coated with special formulations to ensure water resistance, such flotation devices are lightweight, allowing them to move freely from place to place on the shore.

Bamboo products in everyday life

This plant has found application in the manufacture of dishes and various kitchen items: plates and bowls, cutlery, spatulas and stirrers, cutting boards, mats for making rolls, chopsticks. It also uses the technology of pressing with the impregnation of plant components with specialized compositions that are safe in contact with food.

The idea of making dishes from bamboo is not new: traditionally, by cutting out a section of the trunk of a large plant, limited on one side by a partition (pictured), we got various containers- cups, glasses, buckets.

V last years computer and phone manufacturers are using composites based on the fast-growing Asian cereal as an alternative to plastic used in the manufacture of cases. For example, Asus has released a "bamboo" laptop. In addition, you can find in a similar case keyboard, mouse, mobile phones, tablets and other electronic equipment.

They also make bamboo musical instruments, where this plant can form both cavities for generating sounds (for example, bamboo flutes), and used in the manufacture of auxiliary parts: bows, decorative elements.

As far as sports and leisure items are concerned, the plant in question is associated primarily with ski poles and fishing tackle.

Bamboo fiber

Due to the special properties of this type of fiber of plant origin - softness, natural shine and silkiness, high hygroscopicity and air permeability, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial effects - products made from it have gained immense popularity in recent years. Today on sale you can find bamboo towels, bed and underwear, hosiery.

There are two technologies for producing bamboo fiber.

  1. A mechanical method similar to that used for processing flax or hemp. Here, special enzymes act on the plant raw materials, as a result of which it softens. After that, fibers are extracted from it by combing out.
  2. A chemical method similar to that used in the manufacture of artificial rayon fiber. In this case, the shoots of young plants are crushed and treated with alkalis to obtain a viscous solution. It is then pushed through dies - plates with the smallest holes. Thus, a fiber is formed, which is then placed in an acidic environment to harden the composition and neutralize the alkali. This method is used more often because it is characterized by a high production rate.

From the finished fiber, yarn is obtained in the usual way: then woven or knitwear is made from it.

Thus, bamboo is a unique plant material, characterized by environmental friendliness, high speed of renewal, adaptability to processing, due to which it is used in completely different areas of industry and production. It is not for nothing that in many oriental teachings this plant symbolizes health, joy, longevity and indomitable vital energy.

The oriental-style interior is gaining more and more fans around the world due to its natural beauty and exoticism. An integral part of such an interior is natural materials, including bamboo. Europeans appreciated its merits after they began to trade with Asian countries, where bamboo furniture has been made with their own hands for many centuries in a row. Among the Asian peoples, this is the same improvised material used everywhere in construction and design, as in our country oak or aspen wood.

Bamboo trunks are not fastened together with screws and nails. To do this, use special brackets.

Product features

On sale you can find solid bamboo poles of different diameters, halves (trunk cut vertically), pressed plates.

Plant thickness varies from 0.5 to 20 cm. Bamboo is a hollow grass with an attractive texture that does not need additional decoration. The color of the furniture remains natural, while maintaining the beauty of the plant stem. Therefore, bamboo furniture is a real interior decoration.

Bamboo home furnishings are made by hand, so their cost is quite high. And the material in the form of hollow plant trunks is affordable. Exotic stems can be cheaper than many common woods, such as oak. Use them in own production bed or table is beneficial.

Bamboo furniture must not be placed near heating appliances... Most often, to protect against climatic influences, those on the street need to be varnished.

The herbaceous inhabitant of Asian forests is distinguished not only by its unusual appearance, but also by the peculiarity of assembling products from it. Regardless of what needs to be done: a picture frame or bamboo furniture, you need to know the following rules:

  1. Bamboo trunks are not connected together with screws and nails. For this, special staples are used. Another equally popular way to make bamboo furniture is to tie the parts with strong hemp rope knots.
  2. You need to cut bamboo poles with a hacksaw for metal with fine teeth. If you use a regular wood saw for this purpose, the logs will crumble.
  3. The structure is connected using holes drilled in thicker barrels. It is important to learn how to combine plant elements at right angles.
  4. If exotic wood heat, it will bend in the right direction. This makes it possible to make curved armrests, headboards and table legs. The tree must not be overheated: it can be charred. It will not work to bend the pole at a right or acute angle: it will break.
  5. Drill holes with a diameter of 1.5 mm in the finished product. This will allow the wood to breathe and extend its life.
  6. At the cutting site, it is better to wrap the log with tape. This will help keep the edge straight and avoid damaging it.

Thick stems are used for load-bearing structures furniture or for interior elements: partitions, columns and others. Thinner stems and bamboo stripes can be seen in additional elements structures. Wicker furniture or parts of it are made from bamboo rods. Plates of pressed plant trunks preserve its texture. They are used to make tabletops, bed bases, partitions in the closet.

Interior items made of bamboo

Bamboo products can be placed throughout the house: they do not cause allergies, do not emit harmful fumes such as chipboard or MDF.

The principle of assembling bamboo pieces into a single whole is the same. Only the size of the structure and the amount of material used differ. Bamboo furniture is very durable despite the fact that the material is hollow. To work with logs, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • drill with round nozzles (crowns);
  • a gas burner, if it is necessary to bend logs;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • drill;
  • pencil;
  • hammer;
  • sandpaper;
  • metal staples;
  • hemp rope;
  • PVA glue or other for wood;
  • spray varnish.

To assemble, for example, a bamboo bed, you need to purchase an appropriate mattress. According to its size, the amount is calculated necessary material... The frame around the bed is made of massive bamboo posts. They are placed horizontally, stacked on top of each other and connected to each other using metal brackets, hemp rope or stems of a smaller diameter. For the bottom, a sheet of thick plywood or pressed bamboo is suitable.

The bamboo bed will be strong and durable. But before embarking on such an experiment, it is better to try your hand at simpler subjects. For example, make a table for a tea party. To do this, you need to prepare:

  • bamboo trunks of different diameters;
  • a wicker napkin made of bamboo plates;
  • two wooden sticks 5 mm thick with a flat section and with a diameter of 7-8 mm - with a round one;
  • 4 sticks 10 cm long and 1 cm thick.

A table stand can be made from a stem large diameter by sawing it lengthwise into two equal parts. In two blanks of greater thickness, recesses are made into which logs of lesser thickness are inserted. It turns out a square or rectangular frame. All details must first be sanded. Before assembly, the prepared parts with holes inside for wooden sticks, on which the tabletop (bamboo mat) will lie, and with indentations for the legs, must be covered with a layer of varnish.

The legs for the table are made from halves of the log, into which two sticks are inserted into each. In order for the parts to hold better during the operation of the product, they are coated with glue, and then connected. The final step will be to adjust the legs so that the tabletop does not turn out to be tilted. Almost all handmade bamboo furniture is assembled using the technology described above.

Neither tree nor shrub - you will not understand what, but very beautiful plant- indoor bamboo, unusual plant with green shoots of a spiral or zigzag shape. Firstly, indoor bamboo has an original, even exotic appearance... Secondly, according to the Feng Shui philosophy, indoor bamboo helps to attract good luck and prosperity to the house. How to care for and how to propagate indoor bamboo - read below.

Caring for bamboo in water is an opportunity to let your fantasy and imagination come true. You can create various interesting compositions from bamboo shoots, add to them decorative stones, red and gold ribbons or mascot figures. Lucky Bamboo looks great in a transparent vase with a colored hydrogel. Do not forget about its purpose - 3 stems for good luck, 5 for prosperity, 7 for health, and 21 stems for all spheres of life. The composition of twenty curled bamboo stalks is called the tower of love.

Growing basics

Indoor bamboo is unpretentious, but requires quite simple rules care for him. First of all, indirect Sun rays, a little coolness and periodic ventilation of the room where it grows.

In winter, the bamboo of happiness should be kept at a temperature of at least 12, and preferably 14-16 degrees. Comfort temperature air in the room for him is about 22 degrees. At temperatures above 35, it dies. Does not require constant spraying, occasionally it is worth wiping the leaves from dust. At the bottom of a vase with water is laid different sizes pebbles or expanded clay. As a top dressing, special mineral fertilizers are used for dracaena.

It is recommended to feed the bamboo every three months. If feeding is carried out regularly, the leaves and stems will retain green color throughout the life of bamboo. The yellowed leaves and stems must be cut off, allowed to dry and lubricated with a soft wax.

Water for bamboo

In many apartments and houses, bamboo is grown in water, because its straight or twisted shoots look very impressive in various glass vases. But then you need to feed it with mineral fertilizers to preserve the green color of the leaves.

The water in the vase with it must be filtered, or better distilled, at room temperature. It must be updated every 2 weeks.

You can also use rain or melt water - filtered or plain water from the tap pour into plastic bottle and place in the freezer until the water completely turns into ice. Then put the bottle to thaw at room temperature. The resulting water becomes softer and more suitable for growing bamboo in it. If the water has acquired bad smell or a suspicious color earlier than 2 weeks, then you should change it and then change more often the water in the vase with bamboo. If the leaves turn yellow, then the water also needs to be changed.

Happy place in the apartment

The bamboo vase is best placed on the east side of the window or closer to it. You can't leave it on a sun-drenched windowsill, because the direct rays of the sun burn the leaves. A place in partial shade is ideal for bamboo in the water. If there are no such places in the apartment, then you can place a vase with bamboo on the windowsill or on the floor, covering the glass with a curtain, blinds or newspaper, protecting the plant from sunburn. When airing the room, cold air should not get on the plant, this negatively affects it.

Pruning and propagating bamboo in water

If the bamboo has grown too much and no longer looks attractive, then pruning should be done. It is done with special scissors, over the knots, otherwise the cut will come out ugly.

Pruning can be carried out annually by pruning long shoots from all sides, if necessary, remove external reeds at ground level.

By removing the side shoots from the desired sides, you can simulate the shape and appearance of the bamboo as you wish. Pruning can also be used to propagate bamboo. In this case, either cut off the upper cuttings and root them in water, or cut the stem into several parts, lubricating the cuttings with soft, but not hot wax. In no case should you use yellowed areas of bamboo for reproduction. If there are no shoots, then you can cut the top and after such an operation the shoot should grow, if it does not appear, then repeat the pinching of the stem.

According to adherents of the Feng Shui philosophy, the bamboo houseplant can bring happiness, good luck and prosperity to its owner. A variety of dracaena, this flower has nothing to do with real bamboo, brought to us from Asia and became a real hit in the design of offices, restaurants and hotels.

How to grow bamboo at home

The plant, which has become fashionable among flower growers, can be grown in several ways:

  • In a pot of soil;
  • In water;
  • In a hydrogel.

Like all houseplants, bamboo thrives in a pot of soil. In order for him to be comfortable, it is best to choose a soil suitable for dracaena. At the bottom of the pot in which the flower will be planted, it is necessary to pour small pebbles or decorative glass, which will serve as drainage.

Indoor bamboo. Care and reproduction

The second, rather unusual for traditional plant cultivation, method is planting and caring for bamboo in the water. For this, a vessel with clean, filtered water is taken, pebbles are poured on the bottom, and a plant is planted. Drainage should not exceed the level of the plant's root system. The only condition for caring for bamboo in the water is frequent changes and topping up.

Best of all, bamboo, or as it is also called, Dracaena Sander, feels in a special hydrogel. It is a special soil composition impregnated with a gel-like substance. The hydrogel can be different color(transparent, pearlescent, green), therefore, in order for the appearance of the plant to be especially spectacular, it is planted in a transparent pot.

Indoor bamboo: care and reproduction

To grow Sander bamboo, you can use seeds or cuttings. It is best to plant the plant in March when natural forcing begins. For propagation of indoor bamboo, the seeds are soaked in water until fully germinated. Then they are planted in the ground, which includes:

  • drainage - 1/4
  • sand 1/4
  • land 2/4.

After planting in the ground, the seeds should be covered with foil to create a greenhouse effect.

Indoor bamboo. Care

Propagation of indoor bamboo is also possible by cuttings. To do this, you need to pinch off and put the shoot in the water. After 3-4 weeks, it will have roots, which means that it will be possible to plant the plant in soil, water or hydrogel.

If you have a plant in your house that brings good luck, learn how to properly care for it:

  1. Water abundantly in summer and reduce watering in winter;
  2. 1 time in 3 months, feed the plant with a special fertilizer for dracaena;
  3. Make sure that the room is not too hot, otherwise after a while you will notice that the leaves of the indoor bamboo have turned yellow;
  4. Water the bamboo only with settled water, the temperature of which is 18-20 degrees;
  5. Do not expose it on a sunny side of a windowsill.
  6. Also, the plant does not like cold air. Therefore, so that the leaves of indoor bamboo do not turn yellow, remove it from drafts when airing. If brown or yellowish spots appear on the leaves, then the bamboo does not have enough moisture.

Caring for an indoor plant Sander bamboo does not require special, complex procedures, but if you create comfortable conditions for it, the plant will delight you with its original look.

"Bamboo of happiness": how to spin yourself?

The exotic houseplant has Sander's bamboo, a leafless, curved stem. It is he who is the "chip" of the flower. By bending the stem and giving it different shapes, designers create unique, original figures and displays.

You can twist the plant yourself:

Push the stem of the plant into a curved plastic tube and leave it that way for a few weeks. The bamboo will take shape and, after removing the straw, will not change it.

Bend young shoots that have not yet had time to stiffen as you need and secure with wire. After a few weeks, the fasteners can be removed, and the stem will be fixed and take shape.

In order for the plant to look really impressive, it must be artificially twisted, since the bamboo on its own will grow only in height.
