Scheme and dimensions of a bunk bed with a sofa. We assemble a bunk bed for children with our own hands. Approximate calculation of materials

When a second child appears in the family, which happens often, the question of compact sleeping places for children inevitably arises. The most rational and aesthetic solution is to buy a bunk bed for children. But not everyone can afford it, but making it with your own hands is much cheaper and easier.

Pros and cons of a children's bunk bed

Such a double sleeping place for many families, this is sometimes the only acceptable option, because the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

The main advantages of a bunk bed for children:

  • it takes up little space in the room (in urban apartments, where every square meter, this is a significant plus);
  • bunk bed looks nice when done skillful hands with due diligence;
  • it can perform functions at the same time sports corner and workplace for the child;
  • making a bunk bed with your own hands is possible with minimal carpentry skills.

But such furniture also has disadvantages:

  • the whole structure due to high altitude sometimes looks too cumbersome;
  • a purchased bunk bed in cabinet furniture stores is expensive (from 7 thousand rubles or more);
  • the child may fall from the second floor if the sides are not sufficiently fixed;
  • the bed may be unstable, it will probably have to be additionally fixed to the wall.

But all these disadvantages are not terrible at all if you assemble the product yourself and follow all the recommendations of specialists.

The design with a staircase at the end will be convenient for both children to use For a small room, a bed with a pull-out bunk is suitable A bed with a sports corner function will appeal to boys Symmetrical furniture will not leave anyone deprived Sleeping places can be located perpendicular to each other Stairs in the form of drawers will help save space If desired you can make a whole functional complex. A bunk bed is also suitable for teenagers bunk bed may have in its design different shelves and boxes Classic variant equipped with a standard ladder

How to make a bunk bed with your own hands (option 1)

And you need to start, as with any serious business, with thinking through the design and drawing up a project.

Design description, drawing

Most often, the product is made of wooden blocks and plywood. This is the simplest and cheap option. Remember that the width of the bed must provide enough room and fit standard size mattress. The optimal value is 80 cm.

As for the height of each tier, these parameters are taken individually. The ground floor should be no lower than the tallest toy box, which then slides under the bed. Usually it is 35 cm.

The second tier will rise to a height of 1.3 m from the floor or more. If done below, certain inconveniences may arise. For example, an adult will not be able to sit up straight.

The total height of the structure should be approximately 2 m. More badly - the elder (younger) brother (or sister), getting up in the morning, will poke his head into the ceiling. The length of the bed is taken equal to the maximum average height of an adult. Ideally, this size is between 1.75 m and 2 m.

The optimal width is 610 mm for stairs. It will be convenient to use for children and adults.

As for the distance between the steps, it should be a minimum of 200 mm, and a maximum of 260 mm. Otherwise, difficulties will arise for a child crossing from one step to another.

Material selection and quantity calculation

For a bunk bed, bars are ideal, since such material is inexpensive.

When selecting bars, you need to immediately look at their quality. You should buy only those with as few knots as possible, smooth surface and good straightness. Pine or spruce is best. Such material is inexpensive, durable and easy to process.

Let the height of the bed be 2 m, width 0.82 m, and length 1.88 m. Let's take the height of the first tier 35 cm from the floor, and the second - 1.5 m from the floor. We will assign the width of the steps equal to 63 cm.

So, for the main frame you will need strong bars with a section of 40x60 mm. Remember that there will be 4 vertical posts of 2 m each and 4 horizontal crossbars of 1.88 m each, and you will also need 4 horizontal end beams of 0.82 m each. This lumber is sold in beams 2 m long. Each such bar will produce 2 end beams . As a result, you will need the total number of indicated bars N = 4 + 4 + 2 = 10 pieces.

In addition, you will need boards from a bar with a smaller section - 30x40 mm. Steps can be made from the same lumber.

makeshift bed you can always style the overall design of the room

Now you can calculate the bars with a section of 30x40 mm. The staircase will be located on the left side of the facade of the structure. In this case, the right ends of the steps with their ends will rest against a separate vertical rack and will be fixed on it. And the left ends of the overlap will be fixed on the front main vertical of the bed with a section of 40x60 mm. The steps themselves will remain with a rectangular profile. Their total number is 6 pieces (since the distance between them is taken to be 250 mm, we divide the height of the second tier by this value and get N = 1.5 / 0.25 = 6).

So, for the stairs you will need:

  • vertical right post with a section of 30x40 mm and a height of 2 m;
  • steps of the same section with a total length L \u003d 6x0.63 \u003d 3.78 m.

It is easy to calculate that from each bar standard length 2 m will turn out 3 steps (0.63x3 \u003d 1.89). So, in total, 2 beams are needed for these elements. In total, on the stairs we use 3 bars with a section of 30x40 mm with a standard length of 2 m.

As for the sides, below, on the first floor, these elements are not needed. On the second tier, you can make two sides - on the facade and from the ends. On the back of the bed, it is enough to make only one crossbar, because there will still be a wall of the room.

Two front boards have a length each in the size of the bed (minus the width of the stairs). The same applies to the rear. And the end ones have a length of 0.82 m. In total, there are 4 of them. It is easy to calculate that from one blank of 2 m you will get 2 end beams. So, all you need for the sides is the number of two-meter bars with a section of 30x40 mm, equal to N \u003d 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 \u003d 5 pieces.

The surface of the bed, made by hand, can be decorated as you wish.

The flooring of sleeping places is made of plywood and reinforcing beams with a section of 20x20 mm. You will need an area of plywood equal to the area of the beds. Thus, using the dimensions of the bed, you get: S \u003d 0.82x1.88 \u003d 1.54 m 2. This is the area of one place. For the entire bed, we take the value of 3.1 m 2.

It remains to count the bars with a section of 20x20 mm. You will need 4 pieces of two-meter blanks for fixing on long horizontal beds. The segments reinforcing the plywood will be supported on these beams in the future. Such segments are enough for 8 pieces per single bed. The total length L = 8x0.82x2 = 13.12 m. That is, 7 two-meter blanks. The total number of bars of this profile: 4+7=11 pieces.

Apart from wooden parts it is necessary to use metal corners and self-tapping screws. This design has 8 connection points for the most powerful beams with a section of 40x60 mm. For each such element, you need to use 2 corners.

Self-tapping screws are enough for 100 grams of each of two sizes - 80 mm long for the main fasteners and 35 mm long for small things.

It is better to use black wood screws nominal diameter 3 mm. They are easily screwed into any tree without pre-drilling. And then the hats can be closed with special decorative "buttons".

Now you can make a final list:

  • bar with a section of 40x60 mm - 10 pieces;
  • blanks 30x40 mm - 3 beams for stairs and 5 for sides - 8 pieces;
  • plywood with a minimum thickness of 3–5 mm and an area of 3.1 m 2;
  • bar 20x20 mm - 11 pieces;
  • metal corners - 16 pieces;
  • self-tapping screws 80 mm long - about 0.1 kg;
  • self-tapping screws 35 mm long - about 0.1 kg.

Before starting work, it is better to lay out all the materials in separate piles, combining them by type and size.

Instruments

To make a bunk bed, you will need the following metalwork and power tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • electric jigsaw with a set of wood files;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • electric drill and a drill for wood with a diameter of 4 mm.

To assemble such a seemingly complex structure, only a minimal set of conventional tools is needed.

Step by step instructions for making

All work on the collection of a bunk bed consists of several stages:

  1. Cut long horizontal beams with an electric jigsaw, 4 pieces. The total length of the bed, equal to 1.88 m, includes the size of the profile of the verticals. That is, you need to cut horizontal beams 1.8 m long each. Since the vertical has one of the dimensions 0.04 m (40 mm) in cross section, then during assembly the total length of the bed will be L = 1.8 + 0.04 + 0.04 = 1.88 m.
  2. In the next step, just assemble the verticals with long horizontal beams. To do this, first attach a two-meter workpiece to the lower cut crossbar along the markings and fasten it with a corner. Then do the same with the top horizontal.
  3. Attach a second vertical to the other ends of the cut beams. Then, repeating all the operations, assemble another symmetrical assembly consisting of bed posts and its horizontal beams.
  4. Having thus assembled the frame of the front and rear parts of the product, connect these sidewalls into one structure. To do this, first cut 4 pieces 70 cm long from a bar with a section of 40x60 mm. These will be the end rails of the bed.
  5. Collect them with other parts of the bed. First fasten the corners in the same places where the long horizontal beams are attached. Then reinforce the entire structure with long self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the “body” of the bars. If necessary, pre-drill holes for fasteners with a drill. As a result, the width of the bed will be 0.82 m. This size includes a segment of each end beam of 0.7 m and two vertical profiles of 0.06 m each (with a section of 40x60 mm).
  6. Now that the skeleton of the bed is made, you can take up the installation of the stairs. To begin with, cut six steps (from blanks with a section of 30x40 mm) each 0.63 m long.
  7. Measure on the facade a distance of 0.63 m from the leftmost point of the bed and mark the location of the vertical rack for the stairs. Screw the right two-meter vertical of the ladder to the horizontal facade beams of the product.
  8. Attach steps with a step of 0.25 m, counting it from the floor. Moreover, the left side should overlap on the bedpost.
  9. The right end of each step should rest against the vertical beam of the ladder. Therefore, drive the screw on the right each time into the vertical profile, and on the left into the step profile through the bed post. For fidelity, when installing the steps, you can use the level by applying it on top of the mounted segments.
  10. It remains to fix the sides and lay the beds. Cut the beams for the fence from a bar with a section of 30x40 mm. At the end, the length is equal to the same value of the corresponding bed rails - 70 cm. At the front sides, mark the length in place by attaching the blanks to the right bed post and to the stairs. The railing should end where the right edge of the step is located. Finally, the tailgate is equal to the full length of the bed minus two vertical profiles (1.88–2x0.04=1.88–0.08=1.8 m).
  11. Screw all guards to general design on the top tier. The step between the sides is 0.15 m.
  12. Arrange the flooring of the first and second bed. To do this, first screw a blank with a profile of 20x20 mm to the bottom of each horizontal bed from the inside, after cutting it. The pieces supporting the plywood will rest on this part. They should be 0.66 m long. And screw to the support beams.
  13. Cut plywood the size of a bed, and screw it to the main, strongest bed beams.
  14. It also does not hurt to fix the flooring on the supporting segments. At this stage, use small self-tapping screws. The bunk bed is ready.

It is also advisable to attach the entire structure to the wall of the room using the same corners. Otherwise, when the child begins to climb the steps, the product may tilt.

Usually plywood is sold in standard sheets dimensions 1.2 m x 1.4 m. Cutting it is simple: first, a part is cut off 0.8 m wide of the bed along the entire length of 1.4 m. Then it remains to cover about 0.5 m of the bed. Two rectangles of 0.4 m x 0.5 m are sawn off from the remaining piece of plywood measuring 0.4 m x 1.4 m and the open space is covered with them.

You can already use the bed, but it is better to further arrange it in order to avoid the feeling that something is missing.

Design decoration

First you need to cover the tree with varnish. It is better to use a matte finish for this purpose, since the glossy one gives off antiquity. You can use an inexpensive stain instead of varnish. It well emphasizes the structure of the tree. The coating is applied with a simple brush.

Decor depends on the gender of the children

But in addition to painting, it would be nice to attach some kind of facade to the sides to match the color of the furniture that occupies the children's room. Any will do universal option. The dimensions of the facade should be such that all the sides are hidden behind this part. It is best if you can choose a decorative laminated chipboard with rounding.

Do not forget that beautiful mattresses are necessary for a children's bunk bed. They are, of course, not cheap. If such mattresses are too expensive, you can purchase a simple version with cotton filler.

How to make a bunk bed with your own hands (option 2)

The product of the second type is assembled from chipboard boards.Such a design will eventually look more beautiful, but the costs and effort will increase markedly.

Design description, drawing

The backs of such a bunk bed are made from one-piece parts. The same applies to boards and decks. Chipboard data right size order at the carpentry shop. There they will be made in the desired color and according to the required parameters, and all the ends of the plates will be decorated.

Now you need to decide on the size. Let the backs of the structure be 1.8 m high and 0.8 m wide (each with 2 pieces). The thickness of the plate is standard - 16 mm. At the bottom, it is necessary to provide for supporting plastic pads, which are nailed with small carnations.

Make the length of the bed equal to 1.8 m. So, for the flooring, order two slabs measuring 0.8 m x 1.8 m. m in the amount of 4 pieces.

The boards will have similar dimensions. They are needed only for the upper tier. Dimensions of long facade parts (2 pieces) - 0.4 m x 1.8 m.

Draw a rough sketch.

Of course, the plates do not have to be ordered perfectly rectangular. For beauty, you can provide different cutouts, roundings. And below, if possible, there may be drawers.

As for the stairs, then make it from the end. To do this, additionally order 5 steps of chipboard. The first is 0.8 m x 0.48 m in size, the second is 10 cm narrower. And so on: each decreases by 10 cm. Let the right side of the stairs be the back of the bed. Order the left slab with a size of 0.8 m x 1.36 m, while providing for the bevel of the upper part.

List of required materials

So, you will need:

  • chipboard plate (16 mm thick) 1.8 m x 0.8 m - 4 pieces;
  • sheets 1.8 m x 0.2 m - 4 pieces;
  • sheets 1.8 m x 0.4 m - 2 pieces;
  • 5 slabs for steps (the first 0.8 m x 0.48 m, each subsequent 10 cm shorter);
  • side plate with a bevel 0.8 m x 1.36 m;
  • furniture screws for a hexagon - about 50 pieces.

The latter are used to fasten the structure. They are also called Euroscrews.

List of required tools

You will need some tools:

  • roulette;
  • electric drill with a drill with a diameter of 4.5 mm;
  • hex key for euroscrew;
  • screwdriver.

Many families in which several children are growing up at once are familiar with the problem of lack of space in the children's room for games, study and entertainment. As a rule, it is not enough simply due to the fact that all the free space is filled with furniture. An excellent solution to this problem will be a do-it-yourself bunk bed. Not only does it save space, but kids will love it too.

A bunk bed will help solve the problem of lack of space due to its compactness.

Preparing to assemble a wooden bed

Before you start assembling the bed with your own hands, you need to draft a future product and prepare the necessary drawings. On this stage should take into account a number of very important points. First of all, a do-it-yourself bunk bed should be of such a size that not only Small child but also a teenager. Children grow very quickly and this will save you from having to change furniture every few years.

Figure 1. A drawing showing the dimensions of a bunk bed.

When planning a bed with your own hands, you need to consider the size of the mattresses. If you buy ready-made mattresses, then start from their sizes. If you plan to make mattresses for a bunk bed with your own hands, then it is best to make beds in a traditional size, i.e. 180x80 cm. The sleeping place is made approximately 2 cm larger than the mattress on each side. During work, you can focus on the following drawing indicating all required sizes: Rice. 1. It is very important to choose correct dimensions beds. In this case, it is necessary to take into account where the bunk bed will be installed and how the stairs to the upper tier will be attached. Stairs are best done at a slight slope. In this case, about 5 cm should be added to the dimensions of the bed. You need to choose optimal height second floor. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the height of the ceiling. If the ceiling is low, then you should not make the second floor too high, because. the child will be stuffy and uncomfortable there. It is important to choose and optimal distance between tiers. It should be such that if an adult sits on the first tier, he does not reach his head to the top bed. Too much distance is also better not to do, because. because of this, the bunk bed will become less stable and safe. The distance between the mattress of the lower tier and the floor should be about 30-40 cm. The wooden bunk bed should be sufficiently rigid and solid construction. Children will not only sleep on it, but also play, somersault, jump, etc. To check the rigidity of the finished structure, it is enough for an adult to sit on it. If the bunk bed does not deform under such a weight, then it is quite stable. The second tier is necessarily equipped with a fence. It is advisable to do it on the first tier.

A bunk bed should fit well into the interior. Even before starting work, you need to think about this and decide which side is best to install the stairs to the upper tier. A bunk bed should be as stable as possible. To do this, it is fixed to the wall. In accordance with safety regulations, the bunk bed must be installed at a sufficient distance from windows and opening doors. When designing a bed with your own hands, carefully consider the material for its manufacture. On the market building materials bars will be presented to your attention, planed boards and other materials different sizes. You can choose the most suitable materials and save yourself the hassle of sawing wood. If such a need arises, it is better to trust this work professionals. Order cutting furniture panels according to your patterns. Before you buy the materials from which your bunk bed will be assembled with your own hands, take another look at the drawing. All dimensions must be indicated on it. Take this blueprint with you when you go for materials.

Preparation of tools and materials

In order to assemble the bed with your own hands, you will need both simple tools, which are in almost every home, and those that will need to be bought specifically for the manufacture of furniture. The list of tools includes the following:

  • building level;
  • pliers;
  • screwdriver or drill with the appropriate function;
  • squares;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper;
  • set of screwdrivers;
  • a hammer;
  • jigsaw;
  • wooden beam 10x5 cm for load-bearing racks;
  • timber with a section of at least 4x6 cm for frames;
  • metal corners;
  • board 10x2 cm;
  • plywood;
  • furniture boards;
  • varnish or paint of the desired color;
  • vise;
  • chipboard strips;
  • various fasteners (screws, screws, self-tapping screws).

Step-by-step instructions for making bed tiers

The assembly of the bed begins with the manufacture of frames. In the future, mattresses will be laid on them. Frames must be rectangular shape. Assembling the bed with your own hands, you will need to be careful at every stage. When assembling the frames, make sure the sides are perpendicular. Provide as much as possible reliable connection bars at the corners.

The most durable is the thorn-groove connection. In this case, you need to use a special glue.

Such a connection can only be made if a manual milling tool is available. In the absence of such a connection is fixed from the inside with metal corners. The frame is equipped with spacers. In case you bought or made a mattress of sufficiently high rigidity, install one spacer in the middle. If the mattress is soft and will fit on plywood sheet, you will need to make at least 4 spacers distributed along the length of the bed frame at the same distance from each other. After the frame is assembled, install the sides around its perimeter. They will provide additional fixation of the mattress. The sides on the bed with your own hands can be made from a board or chipboard. This completes the manufacture of a place for the mattress.

Chassis Assembly Guide

First of all, you need to make racks. They will hold the finished structure. This can be done in two ways. You can make 2 identical side pieces from furniture boards. They should exceed the level of the upper tier by 30-40 cm. To finish homemade design looked more beautiful, shields can be rounded. In addition to their main function, the sidewalls will act as additional barriers from the ends of the bed. Mark the surface of the shields and prepare holes in them, through which the connection with the frames of the sunbeds will be made. Use bolts with round heads for connection. Similar option has its drawback. It consists in the fact that the lower tier in this case will be fenced on three sides. This may cause discomfort to the child. Therefore, at this stage, it is better to assemble the bed with your own hands in his presence. Bearing racks can be made of thick timber. In this case, 2 side parts are first created from supports and lintels. They will serve as end caps. Don't forget the plinth. Because of it, it may not be possible to lean the bedposts against the wall tightly enough.

Used to fasten sidewalls to mattress frames. threaded connection. You can use special screws with a hexagon inside. To final assembly bed passed as quickly and easily as possible, it is recommended to temporarily secure on vertical supports supports for sunbeds. Make sure that all supports are installed at the same height.

How to make and install a ladder?

Figure 2. Drawing of a ladder for a bunk bed.

Ladder racks can be made from beams or boards. The crossbars are made from timber. You can use for them cuttings from unnecessary garden tools. The blanks are cut into fragments of suitable length, carefully cleaned and polished. When working, you can focus on the following drawing: Fig. 2. It is recommended to put the crossbars on a special glue. To do this, in the racks, you must first prepare holes for the ends of the crossbars. The holes must be located exactly opposite each other. After the bed is completely ready with your own hands, it is recommended to further strengthen its structure with strapping. It is best made from boards. At the same time, they will perform the function of a fence. To prevent the possibility of injury and splinters, you need to carefully polish all parts of a homemade bunk bed made of wood so that its surface becomes perfectly smooth. Finally, the bed is painted or varnished. The finished bed is installed in the selected place, it must be attached to the wall with self-tapping screws, and only after that it can be used for its intended purpose.

To reduce the amount of work, you can assemble a bed with your own hands based on a sofa or ottoman.

To reduce the amount of work, you can assemble a bed with your own hands based on a sofa or ottoman. This method is very convenient if a sofa was once bought for one child, and after a while a second appeared, who also needs somewhere to sleep. In order not to make a bed with your own hands from scratch, you can adapt an existing sofa for this. The second tier should be the same length as the first. The width of the top tier should be slightly smaller. Usually it is 70-80 cm. Thanks to this difference, the finished bunk bed will not look too bulky. First you will need to prepare 2 wooden shield. Their width should be 2 cm more than the width of the mattress used. Height - 2 cm more than the height of the mattress. Attach these shields to the sides of the mattress with 10mm bolts. Prepare a 50x30 mm guardrail. The plank will be attached with metal corners and screws. You will need to attach 2 corner pieces to the bottom edge of the mattress. Fasten them so that the free shelves look down. Take a block and attach it to the wall with bolts. The bar must have the same cross section as the fencing bar. Pre-prepare recesses in it for the shelves of the corners.

Attach the uprights to the top mattress with screws and slide it into place. At the bottom, the racks are attached with bolts to the sides of the sofa. The upper back side of the mattress should be supported on a bar. The shelves of the corners should enter the grooves of the bar. This will ensure the stability of the position of the mattress. Racks are best made from hardwood. If the mattress cannot be securely attached to the wall, the same racks will need to be made at the back. Attach the stand to the wall with at least one bolt. Finishing bed is exactly the same as in the previously described instructions. Successful work!

- commodity prices are rising, and you want to live in comfortable living conditions. However, this is understandable, besides, many people are ready to do something on their own to bring benefits to the house. Well, in this article I will tell you how to do this and provide drawings and photographs of such furniture.

You can make such a bed for your children yourself

What is required for work

Of course, you understand that any furniture is made of something and something, and these components must be determined immediately. That is, before starting work, you need to prepare the right materials and select the required tools.

We select materials

OSB of various thicknesses

In fact, all materials must be from wood, that is, from lumber, but panel products may be different. I will just list what you can use, but you will have to choose on your own. So, we make a choice:

  • bar 50 × 50 mm;
  • board 50 × 70 mm (instead of a bar, but this is optional);
  • board 100 × 50 or 150 × 50 mm;
  • moisture resistant or laminated plywood or oriented strand board (OSB-3 or OSB-4) - you need a choice here;
  • dowels with a diameter of 8 mm;
  • self-tapping screws (it is better to take white or yellow ones, they do not rust, therefore, they will last much longer);
  • wood glue or PVA, it may come in handy, but it may not, it all depends on the assembly method;
  • varnish (see footnote!).

Attention! There are different varnishes, but do not forget that you are making a bed for a child! So, look at the sticker with the instructions, the varnish can be alcohol, alkyd, alkyd-urea, nitroglycerin, polyester, polyurethane, acrylic, oil and water. The latter is natural, therefore, it cannot harm a person when inhaled (it is safe not only for adults, but also for children).

What do you need from the tools

An electric jigsaw is more convenient than a manual jigsaw

Generally speaking, a hammer, a hacksaw and a curly screwdriver will be enough, but why complicate your life? Now there are many electric tools which will always come in handy household and this:

  • electric jigsaw and / or circular hand saw;
  • screwdriver and / or electric drill with nozzles;
  • set of drills;
  • metric tape measure, pencil.

Note. Also may be useful sandpaper or a grinding disc in a grinder, but this is not always the case.

Step by step assembly of the crib

In fact, the manufacture of a crib consists of stages, that is, first the different components are made, and then they are assembled. However, the factory assembly takes place in the same way.

Material dimensions

Layout of parts

  1. A - 4 legs 1730x76x38;
  2. B - pads for legs 1730x76x38;
  3. C - 2030x140x38;
  4. D - 1850x44x32;
  5. E - 914x140x20;
  6. F - 914x90x20;
  7. G - 1000x76x20;
  8. H - 1510x90x20;
  9. I - 482x64x20;
  10. J - 1800x90x20.

In addition to these details, stock up on such things as:

  • grinder (belt or disc);
  • clamps for fastening parts.

backs

Here you need to make planks from the bars

The backs are hammered into the dowels

The back at the head and the back at the feet are the same, you can just diversify them for beauty, for example, at the head to make almost continuous crate and smaller at the feet. Instead of a crate, you can use LDSTP. Please note that the assembly is done with dowels and wood glue or PVA - they must fit tightly and they are hammered. There is one more nuance for the legs - if someone does not like to rest their feet on the crossbars, then middle board should not be set, although for children this is not so important.

How to make side walls

Sidewall Image

Focus your attention on the bars that run horizontally across the stack - they are made using the block method. Such a device allows you to fix the bottom rails. Therefore, you should refer to the strength of the bars when buying them - there should not be cracks, rot and / or wane so that misfortune does not happen (the bottom does not fall out). You can even use a 50 × 70 mm board instead of a bar - it will be more reliable.

Make the wall itself from a cut sanded board 50 × 200 mm and again look at the quality so that there are no cracks, fungus and wane. You will need to paint the walls for manufacturing, but do not use nitro-varnishes - it is best to buy preparations for water based Aqua type. You can also paint the walls with oil wax, but it will be much more expensive.

frame

Crib frame

The slats on the frame rest on the bars on the sidewalls, but they should be fixed with self-tapping screws so that they do not budge. As for laying, it should not be too tight, that is, the rail must be inserted by hand, and not hammered, because otherwise the lumber will creak from friction. They should not be varnished - all the same, the bottom will be made of chipboard, MDF or OSB.

Let's start with the fact that the staircase is generally separate part design, which should be easy to remove and just as easy to install in place. It is important here not to fix it permanently - the ladder can be easily detached, but at the same time hold on so that the child cannot fall off it.

Parts of the stairs

It's not difficult, just correctly calculate the slope and step of the steps. If we talk about optimum inclination, then this is 29-33⁰, although this is not a critical indicator (you can do it much cooler), and the steps for the child can be placed after 30-35 cm. Do not forget that the varnish itself is slippery, so you should not apply several layers - one will suffice. Below you can watch the video - this is one of the options for manufacturing products.

Another option

Let's look at a few more options - they are very similar, like all projects, well, well, a bed is a bed. Do not be afraid that all actions may seem identical - there is a difference and a very big one.

Selection of materials

Bunk bed option

AT this moment let's try to pick up the most common materials, although they can even be called the easiest in technical terms:

  • solid wood (log) - the most good material, but it requires at least minimal carpentry experience and machines. At home, this is not available to everyone;
  • finished lumber from a solid array - edged polished board and bars. GOST 17231-78 says that for such products, the humidity should not exceed 10-12% (no cracks, rot and wane). Otherwise, the lumber may twist with a “helicopter”;
  • MDF is a finely dispersed fraction of lumber that does not produce chips when sawing and drilling. It has average density, but it is more expedient to use it as a sheathing material. There are laminated sheets, but they are more expensive than usual - this is a matter of personal choice. Sawing can be ordered in a carpentry workshop (the edges will also be glued there), but this is easy to do on your own;
  • Chipboard - chipboard without any coating. It has poor density, so such panels are not recommended for use under heavy loads. As the bottom of the crib or backs, it is better to use LDSTP (laminated boards);
    OSB - oriented strand board. They are divided into 4 classes - OSB-1, OSB-2, OSB-3 and OSB-4. Only OSB-3 and OSB-4 are moisture resistant - this is an excellent material for a crib.

How to fasten knots

1 - half-tree docking, 2 - leg docking

Here are two ways to make docking: the first option is easier, and the second is more reliable. But on the paw, the joint will have to be cut with a jigsaw or a hacksaw for metal.

1 - docking with full cutting, 2 - docking with incomplete cutting, 3 - connection to a reinforced steel angle

For the first two methods, docking is best done using fixing with wood glue or PVA. The second method is more relevant when using self-tapping screws, but this is only for solid wood.

1 - docking on rectangular dowels, 2 - docking type " dovetail", 3 - docking on the root spike

In this case, all connections are good, so you can use the one that is easier for you to make or just the one that you like best.

Several options with drawings

This option is already for professional carpenters

Here the child will have a place not only to sleep, but also to play.

Stairs and lower bunk can be used as bed linen or clothing cabinets

In the photos and videos, you can see that there are, in fact, no restrictions for design, but a lot will depend on your skill. You understand that most things are now being done on machine tools and special carpentry tools, which are far from being in every home. But if you wish, some parts can be ordered from specialists (you can’t buy them in a store).

And one more nuance - walkthrough, as such for the manufacture of a crib does not exist in nature. You can see for yourself that there can be many options, and everything will depend on your skill and desire (on financial capabilities too). But if you do not even have experience in carpentry, then this can be learned and the first step will be a sleeping place for your child or even for two offspring.

First of all, they plan the dimensions of the bunk bed, the location of the main elements and choose the material of manufacture.

The height of the first and second tiers should be sufficient so that the child can sit freely on the bed. The length and width of the structure is best adjusted to typical dimensions children's mattresses, for teenagers it is 160x70 cm.

The bed consists of the following elements:

  • corner posts (4 pcs.) - the basis of the frame;
  • horizontal jumpers (their number depends on the design);
  • locker (opening box for linen, clothes and things under the first tier) or drawers;
  • stairs;
  • fall arrester on the second tier;

Material selection

Children's bunk bed made of laminated chipboard with drawers

Classic furniture material is chipboard. According to the finished drawings, you can order a cut of any parts. Regular chipboard costs about 350 rubles. per square meter, and a more environmentally friendly Egger - about 500 rubles.

Additionally, when cutting, they order the edging of each part, for this you will need to pay an additional 30-50 rubles. per running meter edges. For all visible sides details is being done PVC edge 2 mm, and hidden - 0.4 mm to save. The sides of the parts that are joined to each other do not need to be edged.

You can also make bunk beds from solid wood, then everything will certainly be natural. You can even save money if you use old boards and timber, sand and paint them. By the way, narrow birch window sills are very well suited for horizontal lintels of the second tier, they can even withstand an adult.

The main fastener for connecting parts is a confirmat furniture screw, or, as it is also called, a Euroscrew. Ordinary self-tapping screws hold worse in chipboard, and it is almost impossible to screw them in to the end. Euro screws are easily twisted even without a screwdriver - with a hex key, but you need to drill holes for them in advance.

For pre-assembly parts use furniture dowels. To enhance the strength of the frame, it is possible to supplement confirmations with steel corners in key places.

  • We pre-assemble the frame for dowels.
  • When we made sure that everything came together, we drill holes for confirmations and tighten the parts almost to the end. • We glue plastic or rubber pads on the legs so as not to scratch the floor.
  • If a built-in bed was planned, for additional rigidity, it is attached to the wall and floor.
  • First, we collect two backs, and then fasten them with horizontal parts. After that, we assemble and install the limiter and the ladder to the second tier. For convenience, it is better to install the ladder not directly, but at an angle.
  • If a locker or drawers were supposed to be under the first tier, the lid of the lower tier is made of whole sheet plywood or chipboard. The lid of the locker is attached to the frame with hinges. Drawers assembled separately and mounted on full extension ball guides.
  • For the second tier, the base for the mattress can be made from strips of plywood, as in a regular bed.
